I know, you all have been patient with me on this series. Really want to finish WYE with an explosion lol so please continue to bear with me on that one.

Warning: none, just two humans trying to be better...

Fourth part Sixth part

Y/n waited patiently outside their units by the elevator for Toru and Mateo.

At last, their door cracked open and Toru stepped out with Mateo strapped to his chest in a baby carrier facing outward. “Oh!” Toru’s eyes widen, “how long have you been waiting for? You should have come over.”

Y/n smiled, shaking her head. “I wasn’t waiting long, I figured you guys would come out eventually.” She stepped forward and held her hands, “give me the diaper bag, I’ll carry that.”

Toru was reluctant to but gave in. “Thank you.” He turned so Mateo could see her, “say hi, Teo.”

“Hi, Mateo!” Y/n cooed, rubbing his cheek. He smiled bashfully and Y/n spotted a tiny white tooth appearing. “Is that a tooth?”

“Yep, he’s teething and drooling everywhere,” Toru answered, indicating the bib around his neck, was already damp with drool.

She had gone a few days without seeing them but they had made plans to go out to the new restaurant that opened down the street.

Y/n slipped the backpack pack and pressed the button for the elevator, “shall we head down?” Mateo answered excitedly kicking and flapping his arms.

Toru reserved a private room that was closed off from the public area. Although he played professional volleyball for another country, Toru held a large enough fan base in his home country. He was often recognized out in public and bombarded with questions and requests for autographs.

Mateo sat in the high chair patiently waiting to be fed by his dad.

Toru’s phone buzzed for the second time after he silenced the first call. He sighed, “do you mind if I take this call?”

Y/n nodded, setting her chopsticks down so she could take Mateo’s feeding spoon and his baby food. “Not at all, go for it.”

Toru gave her an apologetic expression and exited the room before answering the call.

Mateo immediately blabbered, eyeing his food in her hand. “Okay, okay,” Y/n giggled quickly feeding him. “Yummy, right?” He smiled, showing his gummy smile. “Goodness, you’re so cute, Mateo!”

Y/n couldn’t deny that he held a special spot in her heart. She has always been softhearted for babies in general but something about Mateo, he had her wrapped around his chubby tiny fingers.

She wiped his mouth and continued to feed him when Toru reentered the room, she could immediately sense the irritation in him even if he quickly tried to mask it with a smile. “Is everything okay?”

He hesitated but sighed, he took a seat again and wiped Mateo’s mouth. “It was the head coach for Japan’s volleyball team. He’s trying to recruit me to play for them now that I’m back in Japan.”

“You… don’t want to play anymore?” Y/n grabbed Mateo’s cup, giving him some water.

He remained silent for a few seconds before uttering a quiet, “no.” He inhaled sharply, looking at her before continuing, “with the piano, do you ever have moments where you question your passion? Like you’ve plateaued and don’t know where you’re going with it anymore? That’s where I’m at. I don’t know if I just don’t care for it anymore or I’ve done all that I can and I’m ready to start something new now.” Toru lets out a chuckle, “I never thought there would be a day I would say that,” he looked over at Mateo, reaching over to brush his hair, “until this little guy came along. I want to spend as much time as possible with him because I know how hectic it’ll be if I continue to play professionally.”

Y/n nodded, understanding him. “I feel the same way too.”

Toru’s eyes locked with hers, “about your career?” She nodded to his question.

“For a few months now, I’ve been stuck in limbo contemplating what I want to do with my career now. I was blessed to play alongside some of the greatest and most amazing musicians and traveled for my career,” her voice paused as if she was reminiscing on old memories. “I just don’t know what to do anymore.”

Toru nodded, “that’s exactly what I feel too, got to play for an international team and traveled, played professionally… what more do I want or can I do now?”

“Do you feel like… you just need a break? A breather?”

“Yes,” Toru answered with a smile, understanding exactly what she meant. “To be clear, I’m not saying I’m done with volleyball, I think I just need a break like you said. A long break.”

Y/n looked over at Mateo who was blowing bubbles, she smiled lovingly at him before looking at Toru. “Well, if you’re looking for a sign to take one, I’ll be the sign. I give you permission to take a long break, Oikawa Toru.”

Toru’s eyes water as he looks down, chuckling. “Why are you always making me cry, Y/n?”

Y/n’s eyes widen, “don’t cry! I’m not making fun of you, I promise!”

He shook his head, looking up and wiping his tears away. “No, I know you’re not making fun of me, it’s just… you’ve been saying everything that I just need to hear and it’s so relieving. So, thank you. Thank you for giving me permission to take a break.”

Toru came out of the men’s bathroom shortly after he entered and looked at Y/n with a face she couldn’t quite decipher.

“That was… a fast diaper change,” Y/n’s tone was filled with half sarcasm and amusement.

Toru made a face, “I’m really sorry to ask this but the men’s bathroom doesn’t have a changing table…”

“Ah,” Y/n reached for the diaper bag and took Mateo, “come on, Teo – let’s go change your poopy diaper.”

“Thank… you…” he watched the two of them march and disappear into the women’s bathroom happily.

His heart raced with a mixture of emotions. Gratitude welled up within him, an unspoken appreciation for Y/n’s boundless kindness and loving heart. Each passing day seemed to deepen his feelings for her, as he found himself falling for her even more.

Toru knows he shouldn’t, but he can’t resist letting the scenarios in his mind play out temporarily. Observing how wonderfully Y/n interacts with Mateo, he couldn’t help but envision the possibility of them forming a small, loving family.

He doesn’t have the heart to admit how he has been longing to complete his little family and he knows Y/n means no harm by it but he couldn’t help but just wonder… how does she feel?

Will she be willing?

Can she see a future with him and Mateo?

He knows he’s getting ahead of himself and he shouldn’t, he shouldn’t have such expectations. He should just be thankful that Y/n wants to associate herself with them.

“What?...” Toru mumbled when he felt the ground beneath his feet began to tremble. His balance wavered as he swiftly realized that an earthquake was occurring at the very moment.

Screams and shouts echoed around him as he scanned his surroundings. Cars had come to a halt, and buildings were shaking violently. The tremors beneath his feet intensified, causing windows to shatter and fall from various directions.

“Y/n!” Toru shouted, deftly avoiding falling debris and frantic people in his rush to reach the women’s bathroom. “Y/n!” he cried out, as a group of women inadvertently surged past him in their haste to exit the restroom. Amid the chaos, he was jostled and pushed back from the women’s bathroom, but he stood firm and pressed onward, still shouting, “Y/n!”

“Toru!” He heard Y/n’s scream, “Toru, we’re still inside!”

With no time to spare, he rushed into the bathroom, pushing aside any concern. He advanced further until he turned the corner, where he discovered Y/n hurriedly trying to get Mateo off the small changing table. He swiftly collected Mateo’s belongings and stuffed them into the backpack. “We have to leave quickly,” he urged.

“I think it’s safest to remain here, the walls are cemented and there’s no windows.” She pressed Mateo close to her chest, a protective hand over his head. She looked down at the changing table, “this table is large enough to cover us, we should get under it.”

Toru nodded and followed Y/n who scrambled underneath the table, securing Mateo tightly in her arms.

“Shh, it’s okay baby. It’s okay,” she whispered soothingly as he started to cry. She pulled him tighter in her embrace, murmuring soothing words to calm him.

Toru’s arms enveloped them protectively, drawing them close as the ground shook even more violently than before. Dust and other debris began falling from the ceiling. The lights in the bathroom flickered and then, with a final quiver, lost their connection.

It was the longest few minutes of their lives holding their breath and praying for the earthquake to pass.

The ground had finally grown still, no longer quaking.

“Is it over?” Y/n whispered, her breath unsteady. She looked down at Mateo who calmed down and suckled his pacifier, staring back at her with wide eyes.

A light illuminated the closed-in bathroom as Toru turned on his flashlight on his phone. He looked at Y/n and Mateo before letting out a sigh of relief. “I think so.” He held his phone up, “I don’t have any signal.”

“Cellular towers must be down too,” Y/n shifted Mateo in her arms and gazed at the baby, “are you okay?” Having no clue what he had just gone through, he spat out his pacifier before smiling brightly at Y/n’s words, his dimples appearing on his chubby cheeks. Her heart melted and leaned to kiss his cheek. Her eyes widened for a split second, realizing what she had just done in front of Toru, and blushed, thankful they were still surrounded by the darkness. “We should… probably wait until they give us the green light to leave, we might be best staying here for now.”

Toru sighed and rolled his neck. “Yeah, I agree.” He reached over and let Mateo wrap his chubby fingers around his, “you are a trooper, not even realizing you just experienced your first earthquake.”

“It’s a story we’ll need to tell him later,” Y/n remarked.

Hearing her say ‘we’ll need to tell him later’ caused Toru’s heart to swell to the point of almost bursting. Those were simple words, but they filled him with hope that maybe she would continue to be part of their lives. He smiled as he watched his son burst into laughter while Y/n made funny noises and tickled him.

He swallowed the lump in his throat before uttering the words he’d been dying to say. “I love your interactions with my son.”

Y/n turned her head, eyes wide before she smiled at him, “it’s hard to not adore him, Toru. I enjoy spending time with you two but I hope you don’t think I’m trying to evade your privacy or boundaries. I do – don’t want you to think I’m trying… to be his mother…”

“Can I be completely honest with you?” Toru murmured, gently tucking her bangs behind her ear. When Y/n nodded her head, he smiled warmly. “You are the most incredible female figure Mateo has ever had, and you’ve never crossed any boundaries or invaded our privacy. In fact, I’m sure Mateo agrees with me that we both would love for you to spend more time with us.” He swallowed hard, a lump forming in his throat. “I just want you to know… and I hope what I’m about to say won’t scare you away because I don’t know what Mateo and I would do if you no longer want anything to do with us anymore but I can’t keep it to myself any longer, but God, Y/n, you have no idea how much I wish you were his mother.”

Mateo squealed loudly as if he understood and agreed with his father.

Y/n adverted her gaze momentarily, clearing her throat. “I once heard a quote: ‘Every child deserves a parent, but not every parent deserves a child,’” she began. Then, she turned her gaze back to Toru. “I won’t deny that what you just said caught me off guard, but it certainly didn’t frighten me.” Her eyes met his, silently conveying that she shared his sentiments. “To be completely honest also, I’ve been longing for a child for a few years now,” she admitted. She shifted her focus to Mateo and playfully wiggled his arms. “That’s partly why I lost my passion for the piano. I didn’t exactly know how I was going to make it happen, but…” she chuckled, feeling a rush of embarrassment. “Let’s just say I’ve been on the baby-fever bandwagon for quite some time, and meeting Mateo… it truly was a blessing.”

Toru shifted, sitting with his back against the wall and staring off into the darkness. “It goes both ways, Y/n. You are a blessing to Mateo and me.” He reaches towards Mateo, who instantly grabs a hold of one of his fingers. “I – I was wondering… are you… seeing someone?”

It took Y/n a few seconds before she answered, “no, I’m not. That man you saw the other day was Woojin. He’s also a musician, and that’s how we became acquainted. But that was the last time I’ll be seeing him, we decided to go our ways.”

A small smile appeared on Toru’s lips, his heart was going through all sorts of emotions but at this moment, it was warm hearing Y/n confirm she was not seeing anyone.

“What about you, Toru?” Y/n inquired, “are you seeing someone?”

“No,” he shook his head, “I am not seeing anyone.” His breath trembled and his heart raced as his mind screamed at him, here’s your chance. “Although… I do want to get to know someone.” He glanced at Y/n to see her reaction before continuing, “if I should be so bold as to ask, are you open to seeing someone, Y/n?”

Y/n’s breath quickened, and her heart raced as her mind grappled with how to respond to him. She couldn’t deny that over the past few weeks since she’d met Toru and Mateo, she imagined and daydreamed about what life with them could be like. She also couldn’t deny that after she heard about Lucia, she had secretly wished she could have been the one to carry and give birth to Mateo, the sweet boy in her arms. The idea of considering a man who already had a child with a previous partner had never crossed her mind before, but in this situation, with Toru and Mateo, she realized she wouldn’t mind at all.

She cast him a shy glance, her cheeks tinged with a rosy hue. “If I’m allowed to be as bold as you,” she replied with a hesitant smile, “and if it’s you, then yes, I’d be open to seeing you.” She is immediately hit with the idea that she might have misunderstood his question and she quickly adds rashly, “oh my goodness, I just totally assumed you were referring to… you and I… I’m so emba – “

Her sentence was abruptly interrupted as Toru gently pressed his lips against hers, hushing her words. He gave her lips two tender pecks before pulling back, his gaze fixed on her rosy lips before meeting her eyes. “I’m referring to you and me,” he whispered.

“Toru,” Y/n whispered.

“Yes?”

“Kiss me again.”

His lips curved into a boyish grin before he leaned in, pressing his lips to hers softly. His hand comes to cup her face, taking it slow…

Toru’s breath hitched with Y/n’s mouth shifted and her tongue teased at his lower lip before he smirked and met her eagerness. He did not peg Y/n as one to take the lead in a kiss but he wasn’t going to complain if she preferred it. Cool chills ran down his spine as Y/n let out a soft moan against his mouth and all he could think about was how he wanted to hear more of it.

The moment was interrupted by their phones dinging with a notification informing them of the status of the aftermath. Seconds later, the lights in the bathroom flickered on.

Y/n was the first to pull away and Toru chuckled at the annoyed and slightly disappointed expression that briefly crossed her face. She then quickly averted her gaze, her cheeks flushed with a blush.

Mateo cooed, reminding the two adults that he was still present. He suckled his fingers, drooling everywhere.

Toru playfully poked his son’s cheek, “sorry son, didn’t mean to make you the third wheel.”

Upon their return home, they found the apartment building’s management making announcements. They explained that the external structure of the building had not suffered any damage, but this assessment did not extend to the interior structure. Each unit would undergo inspection to ensure it met safety requirements.

As soon as the three stepped out of the elevator, Mateo was sound asleep in Toru’s arm.

“That was quite a day,” Y/n remarked, shifting her weight onto her heels. “Get some rest, and I’ll catch up with you…”

“On a date. I’m going to take you on a date, is that all right?” Toru finished her sentence for her.

Y/n nodded her head, a bright smile on her face. “I’d love that.”

“You go in first.” He jutted his chin towards her door, “have a good night.”

Y/n walked backward, maintaining eye contact with him until she gently bumped into the door. “Good night,” she whispered before disappearing into her unit.

She dreaded the idea of finding her place in disarray after the earthquake but to her surprise, when she reached the living room, only a few items lay scattered on the ground. Her piano was not a concern; she had it secure in place specifically for situations like earthquakes, and there was nothing near it that could have caused damage.

She tossed her purse on the couch and turned her heels to head for the kitchen when she froze and turned her heels 180 degrees.

Her hand covered her mouth as she muttered, “oh my gosh…”

A big portion of the thin wall that separated her unit from Toru had completely collapsed, and as Y/n stood there in shock, she met Toru’s mirrored expression of surprise.

Sitting here watching The Edge of Sleep and browsing the TEOS tag and I just realized that the cluster-foxtrot surrounding this series isn't limited to the show. They announced the second season of the podcast back in November of 2022, it was supposed to come out the spring of 2023 and it still isn't available as of October 15 2024.

The book is available. Season 1 of the podcast is still available.

Now the TV show has been released 3 days early, in the US only, without any kind of advertising beyond Mark's video stating that the premier would be October 18th 2024 and that he wasn't allowed to tell us what platform it would be on until the day it released.

I'm by no means an expert on film/television/podcast promotion but it seems counter intuitive to me to actively prevent potential viewers from knowing when and where your production will be available. It really feels like there's something going on at Q-Code when it comes to The Edge of Sleep in any format that Mark is involved in.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Live Action Thoughts!

-First of all, ya'll need to leave those child actors alone, they are babies and they didn't write the show, nor was it their idea to do it. I have seen way too many people body shaming children; leave them alone they all did well!

-I think Gordon makes Aang just as cute and small and powerful as I always saw him as!! He manages to joke around and be fun even when the storyline is a lot darker and more serious.

-I really wish Sokka was able to be more of his goofy and silly self. I understand why he isn't, and his humor is more sarcasm and dark jokes, but I saw glimpses of him in there! His excitement when he was with the Mechanist, engineering and getting to do something other than be in charge. Also when he has any older brother convo with Katara or Aang. I'm hopeful with time he'll be able to loosen up!

-(Speaking of the Mechanist, my boy Danny Pudi was SO GOOD, I love him, him and his little son).

-I wish Aang would practice waterbending with Katara :( those scenes of them practicing together were always some of my favorites in the series. Just beautiful kataang moments. I'm glad they addressed it but I missed those moments.

-I don't understand how you guys can't be having fun watching this, I get so excited waiting for little moments of lore, or when Jet and Katara were fighting in the forest I was sitting in front of the TV like "WHERE'S SMELLERBEE AND LONGSHOT. OH MY GOD NO IT'S PIPSQUEAK!" It's just so much fun! The colors are beautiful, the effects are gorgeous, and the plot and characters are entertaining. Think about the piece as it's own thing and enjoy it!

-Adaptations are just that; adaptations, and things will be changed! I think so far I haven't minded their changes, I understand why they've been made. There are things to criticize, but I think this is pretty well done.

-Zuko is fantastic; I think all the child actors are fairly good but Dallas' pissy attitude and the faces he makes are so so fun! I feel for Zuko and I'm scared of him when he shows up, and he's just as annoying and bratty as ponytail Zuko should be. His physical motions are fantastic!

-TEO WAS SO LITTLE?? Oh my god, like as a kid I thought the cartoon version of him was kinda hot so when they wheeled that tiny baby in I was HORRIFIED.

-Idk why YOU ALL weren't scared of Lizzy Yu's Azula, but her little smile in her intro scene gave me a lil chill. Maybe it's because I was away when the show first came out so I saw post after post about how bad she was, but I just.... Thought she'd be worse?? She did really well! Ya'll better be careful though or Gaten Matarazzo will come for you, that's his girl.

-So far the mushing of plots has made sense to me. Yes, I miss the silly filler episodes and the traveling the Gaang did, but it allows us to sit in a scene longer, and to colorize the world better, when we're in one place and one plot for longer. I think that's important for this type of medium and this amount of episodes. They might be able to justify more next season if this show does well enough.

-I am OBSESSED with Zuko and the 41st division oh my god, what a fantastic and well thought out addition. The reveal, and they're bowing for him when he comes back was DEVASTATING.

-They we're GIVING us Sokka and Katara best sibling moments, I loved all of them. They are so cute, they just mean so much to me.

-I don't feel Appa or Momo as characters like I did in the cartoon. I'm hoping this can change, because rn they surprise me every time they get on screen. I'm like "WHAT- oh it's Momo, he's here." How are we going to feel Appa's loss as much as we did in the cartoon if they continue to like barely be in it.

-Ken Leung SLAYED as Admiral Zhao, I watched him go literally insane as the episodes went on.

-Aang's imposter syndrome and feeling of failure being focused on I will always enjoy, even if I hope he can be silly next season too. His entire character arc this season just made me want to cry.

-Bro the coloring during the the Siege of the North was A M A Z I N G. The way the color faded in and out with fireballs and the monster koi passing nearby, just so pretty. It looked awesome.

-Making Yue a waterbender? The best. Her freezing Sokka in place so he can't stop her? Heartbreaking.

-Iroh and Zuko paddling off looking for bestie Lt. Jee?? Okay.

-They really grew this show up for us adults that watched it in 2005 and focused in on the really painful moments, themes, and details.

Teo Tomczuk sits down with SOMMERFJAS 😎 🎵 ☀️

(y’all this one needed a lot of cultural context to understand properly so you can see my personal explanations/rambling below in red lol)

“Fellesferien” has officially started (this is also known as general staff vacation in English, a practice where all employees at a workplace have time off at the same time, and in Nordic countries this typically takes place during warmer months like August). And while some people turn their sights towards the South (warmer/more southern countries in Europe), others are settling in well at their Norwegian cabins.

The next man out for our Summer column is Teo Tomczuk (born in 2006).

You may know him as Mathias from the NRK series “Rykter”, but in his spare time Teo is also very involved in music.

[730.no](http://730.no) had a chat with the Bergen native about his summer favorites. As well as what we can expect from the highly anticipated third season of “Rykter”.

Hi Teo! Do you have any exciting plans for the summer?

“I am going to play some concerts in Poland, and travel around Poland a bit. And I am going on vacation to Croatia with my best friend! It's a bit funny because all the “russegruppene” in all of Norway are going there exactly when we are going there."

(Russegruppene, or Russ groups, describe groups of students in their final semester of high school that celebrate the tradition of Russefeiring, or russ for short. This happens over a period of several weeks leading up to summer, and it is basically a continuous party commonly linked to drunkenness & public disturbances. It's also a tradition for the students to wear special overalls for the event, usually red or blue. Many groups choose to rent or buy party buses to drive around during this time. This tradition is unique to Norway and is an interesting read for those unfamiliar with it!)

Lovely! What kind of style do you go for in the summer then?

“I wear a lot of black clothes even though it's summer.”

What does the perfect summer day look like for you?

“A cabin trip combined with a fishing trip! And making music in the evening.

What movie/series did you last watch? And what roll of the dice do you give it?

“I saw The Fall Guy in the movie theater, it was very well made. The entire production. Dice roll 6!” (The roll of the dice is a Norwegian rating system for media, with 1 being the worst and 6 being the best)

Speaking of cool productions: Has the third season of “Rykter” been recorded?

“The third and fourth seasons have actually been recorded!”

Wow, so cool! What can we expect from the new season?

“You can expect a lot of love, broken hearts. Many try lots of new things and find out who they are. Mostly they get to know themselves. There will be a lot of identity stuff!”

Do you have any tips on what someone could do on a rainy day?

“I live in Bergen, so I'm used to that. The fish bite more when it rains. And make music of course.”

Do you have a favorite restaurant that you just have to visit in the summer?

“Mammas Kjøkken!” (Mom’s Kitchen)

How are you at parties?

“I'm the one who tries to put on 70s rock, haha! I’m really not the biggest party type then.”

What can we expect from you on the music front?

“I try to find my own sound. I developed a new style of pop rock that I think people can vibe with. There will be more international music, a bit of everything.”

"Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin”

What is this summer's nachspiel (afterparty) anthem?

"The End - The Doors”

(Vorspiel and nachspiel are German words that are used in Scandinavian countries to mean pre and after party)

What is your darkest party memory?

“I broke a tooth once haha!”

“Yeah, it was crazy. I was going to open a bottle. Fortunately, it went fine in the end.”

Luckily! Do you have any good tips for the day after a party?

“In Poland we have a soup that grandmas and moms have often made over the years. It's damn good the next day. And just drink lots of water before and after.”

What do you spend the most money on in the summer?

“Probably beer!”

Who would you most like to meet this summer, and why?

“The best thing would be to meet my role models.”

And who are they?

“Many of them have died, but of the ones who are alive: Alex Turner and Ozzy Osbourne.”

Here's some things I couldn't stand about Aang from avatar (but it's not a hate post)

First let's start with the series. Aang was spoiled as a child and had someone like Monk Gyatso who saw him as a son. In return, Aang abandoned all his airbesties because he couldn't get what he wanted. This is a display of how selfish he is. Another scene that makes me iffy about Aang is how he never apologized to Toph when he blamed her for Appa, or how he blamed her at all. I don't have much to say about that directly, but I think it says a lot about how he would be as an adult.

Second, Aang is extremely manipulative. I don't know why nobody ever points out the clear evidence that Aangs arrows are fake and that he's not even the avatar???? Not to mention how the rest of team avatar helped him get away with this so they would all be worshipped, but this isn't about them. Also he's a murderer. There are multiple scenes or comic strips where aang forgot to apply his arrows, and it's canon that the only reason he actually left the air temple was after he was cast out for faking his air bending mastery.

Now I'll go more into adult Aang, specifically how he treated his family. He never focussed on his children except for Tenzin, and even then he left most of the actual raising up to Katara. It's also implied that he was physically abusive because of that flashback in tlok where he punched Bumi in the face when he was baybee. Additionally, how he simply hated Kya for being a girl because a misogynist, and refused to speak to her after she came out as a lesbian.

And don't even get me started on his MARRIAGE, and how he never even apologized for forcing Katara to marry him and then raise their children alone. It's also implied that he cheated on her with every member from team avatar (including Suki!), Ozai, Azula, Ty Lee, Mai, Xin Fu, Bataar Sr., On Ji, Iroh, Haru, Jet, Ursa, Hama, Smellerbee, Longshot, Teo, Matthew Cuthbert, and Appa. And momo. And then how he tried to turn her own brother against her and how he's also Lin, Su, AND Izumi's father, and a deadbeat.

And the most infuriating part to me is how he treated Ozai, but that would need its own post.

Here's a few more negatives about him that I don't feel like writing more paragraphs for:

-he was never actually stuck in an ice burg, but instead spent his time killing any actual avatar alive within those 100 years

-bald

-he's transphobic towards all of tenzin's children

-he killed appa and kya (katara and sokka's mom and one of the real avatars) and mai and sokka and all of the kyoshi warriors

Stay Awake or Perish at the Edge of Sleep

Welcome to my TEOS sideblog!!

A place for me to reblog stuff about this wonderful series and make some noise! I have also got a Twitter/X acct at Gotta_StayAwake!

SO, WHAT CAN I DO?

Listen, I get it. I have to work a job I don't like, barely surviving my day to day, and I certainly have no money or a big following enough to try to change the mind of Amazon Execs about Mark and his projects. Hell, I made a whole new blog (which I have not done for anything else in fandom, my blog is an amalgamation of all my hyperfixations thrown in together) BUT I'm still gonna try by doing what I like to do. I'm gonna make posts and I'm gonna reblog, and I what I can do is sign up for a 30-day free trial to binge the series all day. I'm gonna livetweet my reactions to the show on Twitter and I'm gonna make memes and talk about my faves from the show. It's not much, but it's something I can do and will gladly do for Mark.

Markiplier has been a big part of my life and I really owe him keeping me going during the worst of my depression, I'm pretty sure without him, I wouldn't have been able to finish university. So now, I want to do as much as I can to support "The Edge of Sleep", its success will allow Mark to get his movie "Iron Lung" out and some bigshots in Amazon/Hollywood have now done their best to stop him. So it's important for us to do as much noise to get TEOS out there!!

Remember Our Flag Means Death, cut one season short before we could finish their story.

Remember KAOS, a show that Netflix cancelled a month after it premiere and that no one knew even existed bc Netflix never advertised it.

Now, TEOS has been dealt the same uncaring hand by Amazon. They made Mark not be able to reveal where it was coming out, we barely got a premiere date (October 18, 2024) AND THEN they shadow dropped it on the 15th with no notice and for the US audience only. We also know that they told Mark that if the show didn't get into the Top 10, then his movie is at risk of never coming out. Despite all of that, as of today Wednesday 16th, the movie is #7 and #Markiplier is trending on Twitter/X.

So if you can:

Stream the show. I'm cancelling the trial two days before they charge my card and streaming TEOS until then. If you are outside the US, you can use a VPN, and it will work, believe me. Hopefully, on the 18th we can get a world premier and everyone will be able to stream it, but if not, those options are available.

Make posts about it. Anywhere online where you gush about your faves, talk about it! Whether you have seen it or just know the Podcast, don't forget to tag it with #TheEdgeofSleeponPrime to make sure it stays trending.

UNTITLED MAIN WIP

this is my oldest project! it's a fantasy story set in a kingdom where the royal family is descended from nai, the god of fire. they rule with the ability to manipulate flame and are revered as demigods by their kingdom's religion. however, not every member of the royal family has the privilege of being born with this ability.....

this story follows teo and lorelei as they enter this kingdom and attempt to track down teo's missing mother while also getting tangled up in old secrets...

SHARP TEETH

i spoke about sharp teeth in an earlier post but it's my vampire wip! it's set in a fantasy world where the sun's light is cast extremely unevenly over the surface of the world, and so certain areas are permanently cast in darkness - allowing vampires to thrive.

in the cloudy twilight of korosvet, niki is a hunter of supernatural phenomena tracking down the entity that murdered his mentor. but in the process of investigating he runs into marta and dion, vampires in disguise investigating the mysterious disappearance of their own leader...

IMMORTALS

i've also spoken about my immortal ocs before! these guys started out as roleplay ocs but have since evolved into a greater canon of their own :]

the idea here is that it's possible to become something other than human -- something immortal -- by making a pact with certain entities. over 400 years ago, this is how oscar transcended his humanity and in the process bound his lover tobias to a cycle of reincarnation. every time tobias dies, he is reborn and oscar scours the earth to find him and restore the memory of his past lives to him and continue their romance. except.... it's not always that simple.

in his current iteration, tobias (a professor) happens to be engaged/married to a woman named alice when oscar comes across him. once it becomes clear that tobias does not intend to split from her naturally, oscar decides to take a more underhanded approach and begins to court one of alice's friends (hilde). despite the fact that alice thinks he's bad news, he says he will only leave hilde alone if tobias returns to his side. after a series of convoluted events, hilde is now a mother of twins (andy and orlando), while alice and tobias have experienced a divorce. oscar, though his goal of wooing tobias failed, is content as long as there is no-one else for him.

while oscar and tobias have their Situation, hilde's children grow up and hear whispers of their father and how he ruined the life of their mother and pretty much everyone in her life too. andy, who sees ghosts, runs away from home as a teen to chase revenge -- which leaves orlando behind to take care of their mother. eventually, with a push from his (only) friend aisling, orlando and andy reunite in a combined effort to find and kill oscar once and for all.

just realised i completely forgot to mention lilith too. she's oscar's sister, they met when he was only newly made immortal. he showed her how to make a pact and take vengeance on her abusers, and she slaughtered them all with her newfound power. their loyalty to each other is unflinching and when fighting together are pretty much impossible to defeat.

ATANI FAMILY

if you've been following me for a while you've probably seen me tag posts as darius or ophelia. Yeah they're from the atani family. technically they're characters from a wider fantasy canon but that project is HEAVILY on the backburner 👍 the atanis however make my brain whir and PARTICULARLY darius so you will probably see me discuss them at length.

there's not a particular plot for them at the moment and i'm famous for putting darius into Situations but some context is probably needed. ophelia atani is the matriarch of the atani family, and the youngest of 4 sisters (iris, faline, orianna & ophelia). despite being the youngest -- and often considered the most ditzy -- she managed to claw her way to power as the house's head and an influential figure in politics.

to this day ophelia has a reputation for being a materialistic and even hedonistic woman whose vanity rules her life. anyone who knows her well will tell you that she has a powerful presence and a strong personality, and to publically disagree with her is at your own peril.

given all of this, it shouldn't surprise you to learn that her marriages tend not to last very long. she divorced her first husband (father of her sons leon and pierre) not long after the birth of her second son, and her third son roman was born a couple of marriages later to her last official partner, gregor. her fourth and final son, darius, is ostensibly also gregor's....but rumours are hard to quell, and people have always gossiped about ophelia and her family.

while ophelia is the undisputed matriarch of the family, her son roman is by far the most popular and well-liked member of the family. a dazzling smile and polite demeanor have built him a reputation as the most personable atani and potentially the future heir to the family's political capital.

but every shining light has its shadow, and roman's shadow is darius. a career man, devoted to paperwork over people, darius has never shared his brother's easygoing charisma or radiant presence. an unimpressed look or a dismissive tilt of the head come far more naturally than smiles or grand, sweeping gestures. while roman rallies the people, darius works behind the scenes. while roman attends galas, darius makes deals that stay under the table.

despite being brothers, there is no love lost between them. raised in a society where competition is encouraged, they use each other to grow more powerful before their enemies can eat them.

this is also the kind of dynamic darius shares with luc, a fellow young aristocrat with a shady reputation. despite his father adrian's reputation as a paragon of justice, luc is a smuggler and supplier of black market goods among the upper echelon of society. he and darius are useful to each other for the time being -- darius grants luc some protection in his endeavours, and in return luc gets his hands dirty so that darius doesn't have to. but a relationship like this between two liars is destined not to last long.

i love my d&d ocs SO MUCH. so they're included here too :] they're all from different campaigns so their overviews will be Very Brief but i hope my love for them is obvious :]

JUSTICE GOLDENLIGHT (19) is a red tiefling assassin who belongs to an assassin's guild run by her father, patience. justice has been honed into a perfect assassin since she was young, and in the wake of her brother benevolence's disappearance she is her father's most valuable tool.

JULIEN ANAIVE (20) is an elven cleric raised by a high priestess of the war goddess. left on the doorstep of the temple and raised as a holy warrior of the temple, jules has always been uncomfortable with the pressure and expectations placed on her by the overbearing high priestess and eventually escapes her control with the power of a holy relic of the war goddess. now she is being chased across the sea by powerful bounty hunters and is forced to not use her magic in order to avoid being tracked.

SETI THE BRIGHT (60s) is an orc paladin, a knight, and the personal bodyguard of princess nebetah of the river kingdom. famous for her powerful deeds during her lifetime, scandal occurs when she is framed for the murder of the king and banished. now, using the name rainier, she is on the hunt for the true culprit so she can return to the side of her beloved wife, the princess.

ISAAC ASTOR (28) is a half-elf arcane trickster with a pied-winged swallow familiar, and technically also a college dropout. raised in comfortable wealth, he coasted through magic school on his own talent until he caught wind of the school board's decision to expel him. in college by this point, he recruits a classmate with a special interest in magic theory (sebastian valentini) to help him develop a more reliable version of a magical technique outlawed for its notorious danger. spoiler alert: isaac dies. their lab explodes and isaacs body is stolen from the scene before the authorities can lock it down.....and he is revived by a mysterious organisation that promises him he can stay alive as long as he promises not to contact his family/friends and completes dangerous tasks for them.

The Owl House: Hunters’ Bane

So, this is the cover page of what will be a smol comic inspired by the story written by @randomaccount95 and @migmiger , a sort of AU for the WIttebane lore. I will actually soon enough make a pinned post with all the information about all my projects bcs I have too many going on and I need some order in my life. ANYWAY, more or less the plot goes like this:

Caleb (18) and Philip(13) are two young orphans who live in Gravesfield, and who have a goal in mind, becoming great witch hunters (as per their city tradition)! Unfortunately, Philip is still too young to join the hunts, and as such is forced to stay at home while his brother leaves with the other hunters. Not this night tho, as Philip decides to sneak away and follow his older brother into the forest. What either doesn’t know, is that for the first time they will run into an actually witch! Trying to capture her, the two brothers will accidentally cross a magic portal that takes them to the Boiling Isles. Stranded there with no way home and the mysterious witch no where in sight, the Teo brothers need to survive in this unknown dangerous world until they can find a way home. What they don’t know, is that in the Boiling Isles, there is a practice that is just as popular as witch hunting back at Gravesfield, which is, Human Hunting. From predators to preys, will the two Wittebanes be able to survive and find their way back home?

The story is actually VERY long, I have made just a couple pages for now that I will post in the following days, and I am not too sure if I will continue it. Let me know tho if you’d like for this to become a steady series and get new pages let’s say every week or so :3

You know, making comic pages really makes me gain so much respects (even more than what I already had) for comic artists bcs is SO HARD.

Planning how to make a page, where to put the speech bubbles, the composition, the lineart, not make it boring it takes SO LONG, I would say each page takes me from 2 to 3 hours and a half, which is A LOT

Still, is quite fun, and is good training for different angles and compositions!

This lil project was also partially inspired by the small comics posted by @captainmera which are truly always a pleasure to read and look at, and helps to feed my Wittebane brainrot.

Basics

How long have you had your writing Tumblr/Writeblr? A fast and loose estimate is fine!

I think it was November of 2022.

What led you to create it?

Twitter was going down so I moved elsewhere.

What’s your favorite thing about the Writeblr community?

The engagement and overall positivity! I was surprised how welcoming everyone was, and how touched I was when people gave compliments and how excited I was when people expressed interest!

What’s one thing you’d like your mutuals to know about you?

Well I'm always open to chat about whatever though I do have mild social anxiety. I'm always hyper analyzing whether I did something wrong or whatever. So if I come across as awkward I'm trying my best but I am always being genuine!

Is there anything you’d like to see more of on your dash?

Hm. This is a hard one. I guess I just wish I saw more interaction and engagement in people's work? Idk, it's always there, and I love seeing it, but having full conversations about each other's OCs and WIPs aren't as common. So idk more of that!

WIPs

Which WIPs or writing projects are you noodling about, lately?

Mainly I'm working on TSP but occasionally I'll dip my toes into SOTL again. Whenever I get an idea for a side project I barely have anything for, I'll write it down and get obsessed with it for a while.

And I also have a side project where I write reviews and analyses of TV shows or movies but I haven't gone back to it in a while despite having live notes of several movies and TV episodes in drafts.

How long have you been working on them?

TSP - spring of 2013, technically

SOTL - first came into my brain I think 2014-2015 but the first draft was 2015-2016

The first media analyses I wrote were in 2019 I think.

Do you remember what inspired them/what got you started?

TSP - I liked fairies as a kid due to the Rainbow Magic series, but thought I was too old for fairies so when I was assigned to write a fictional story I wrote about kids with powers

SOTL - I loved different takes on fairy tales due to The Land of Stories and wanted to write my own

Analyses - getting Disney+ because I unironically had always wanted to review every single Disney movie so I did. It extended after I watched two seasons of DC's Titans (the live action one) and I hated it so much I shat out 10k+ words in a single fever driven day

How much time, in your best estimation, do you spend thinking about them?

Pretty often, I'd think, unless I'm deep in a hyperfixation stage of an existing show.

When someone asks the dreaded, “What do you write about,” question, what do you usually say?

"Fantasy mostly."

Name any characters you created. Side characters, protagonists, antagonists, characters who’ve never been written, the first original abomination you ever pulled from your ass; whomever you’d like!

For TSP the characters I've put any effort into characterizing include: Lexi Morgan, Maddie Morgan, Ash Hathaway, Gwen Amante, Noelle Bishop, Rose Hernandez, Kelsey Newman, Robbie Stafford, Akash Singh, Jedi Moon, Carmen Asghar, Carla Baxter, George Baxter, Liam Beaumont, Ewan Traeger, Jazlyn Nyambura, Wade Attwood, Parker Cassidy, Tyler Nakashima, Gabriel Medina, Niri Shyaka, Sam Stafford, Hye-Jin Song, Alex Vaughn, Issa Johansen, CJ Reynolds, Wendy Amante, Anathi Makeba, Teo Nguyen, Xitlali Zepahua, Atsila McLain, and Raissa Kamanzi. Everyone else is insignificant.

For SOTL, I have so many OCs I have no idea who the relevant ones will be. So far, the most are Jack McDonald, Tierney Wayne, Úrsula Lobo, Beau Bellerose, and Bai Xue. Again, so far. I have so many characters for this it's not even funny.

And then there's the others from my other works but I'll stop there.

Who’s the most unhinged?

I'm not entirely sure who's the most. Parker is the most chaotic but Carmen is just the character, y'know? Jack I give whoever I want and Zainab of SOTL is pretty insane.

Who comes the most naturally for you to write?

Probably Robbie, honestly. The way his brain works and goes on random tangents is very similar to me. He's like if I was extraverted sometimes.

Do you ever cringe at them?

All the time.

How much control do you feel you have over your characters? AKA, do they ever “write themselves,” refuse to cooperate, or do things you didn’t expect? To what degree? Are some less cooperative than others?

I only have minimum control. I decide what to do with them but then they say "how about this instead?" And I listen to them all the time. Ash is the most uncooperative one, though. But Noelle has been given me trouble recently. She's told me I need to change her role in Part One. It's frustrating. But awesome.

Interaction

Do you enjoy people asking questions about your characters? And do you have a preferred means of receiving said questions? For example, as Asks, as replies, as reblogs, as tag notes, as comments on AO3, etc.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES I love questions about my characters!! And no I don't have a preference, although AO3 would be hard because I don't have an account. Any way of interacting with me that you can, I love to hear the comments!

What makes you want to follow another Writeblr account? Do you follow ‘em as you see ‘em, or take time scoping out the blog to make sure you align with its content? Do you follow based on WIPs, or vibes? What makes you decide against following?

I do check the bio and scroll through their blog to see if there's anything I don't like or stands out as stuff. Sometimes it's a writeblr in the bio but I don't see any WIP posting so I don't follow.

Do you interact with non-mutuals often?

Yep! Constantly. Sometimes I forget people aren't mutuals.

Do your mutuals’ characters occupy space in your noodle?

Honestly @illarian-rambling's characters are amazing and I finished her manuscript of Mortal God for beta reading and it was awesome.

...Is Shadow's brother Eclipse the Darkling?

This is an incredibly understandable question, as it is popular fanon to interpret Shadow and Eclipse as biologically related - but no, the "little brother" Doom referred to was NOT Eclipse! Shadow and Eclipse in BA HRT are NOT biologically related, though they ARE very close friends to the point of a found family like bond

Eclipse is absolutely going to be in this series though, do not get that twisted! It'd be a shame to not have them, in my opinion. And speaking of that, in BA HRT they are nonbinary fem, going by they/she/ze pronouns - very similarly to our own Eclipse fictive in our system!

So, if not Eclipse, then who? Admittedly, I recognize that unless you're already familiar with our work, you'd have no chance of guessing it - which is why I'm glad someone asked this question tbh

Shadow's little brother (or "technically" half brother) in BA HRT, as well as our main series The Era of Shadow, is an OC of ours named Garrick who is the child of Black Doom and another one of our OCs Black Widow!

We haven't designed what he looks like in BA HRT just yet, but these are his refs from TEoS (Left is true form, right is mobian disguise). He will look a good bit different in BA HRT though because he'll be 5 years older in it compared to in TEoS! (Note: in the timeline of BA HRT, the events of mainline TEoS never happened, it just happens to take place 5 years after where it would have been on the timeline if not for certain events that happened in the BA HRT timeline that DIDN'T happen in TEoS' timeline) So 10-11 years old in BA HRT instead of him being 5-6 years old in TEoS.

... Though funnily enough, Garrick is at Eclipse's house as the events of A Shot in The Dark happen so. Yeah lmao-

for drabbles: more Tommy and Maria? you gave them such a cute family and I want to see more of that!

I'm actually working on a one-shot (tentatively titled Stand on the Rock) about them, which fits into my People Still Listen to Fleetwood Mac in the Apocalypse series. It takes place a year after the events of Go Your Own Way, and about two-and-a-half years before As Long as You Follow. Again, have a (long!) snip!

A crash resonated from somewhere within the house – downstairs, judging from the overall distance that seemed to carry it – and then a shout quickly followed. A second later there was another sound, and a far more terrifying one at that: the shattering of glass, followed by a young voice yelling out in surprise and then a more feminine tone screeching out, “you asshole!”

“For fuck’s sake –” Maria turned her head, moaning this into her pillow. “Tell me I didn’t just hear something glass break.”

“You didn’t hear somethin’ glass break,” Tommy grunted. Still, they didn’t move, seemingly frozen in place. A deep sigh left his lips, his forehead pressed against her braids. “Maybe we can just…lay here, pretend like we didn’t hear nothin’.”

“Mama!” The sheer desperation of the cry made them both groan, and that was that – all hope was lost. Within seconds, their – thankfully locked – doorknob was rattling, twisting back and forth and shuddering as a small fist pounded against the painted wood. “Papa! Let me in!”

“You want broken glass, or the three-year-old?” Maria pulled herself away from him with a groan, leaving him suddenly feeling rather cold even under the warmth of their duvet. She slid out from over the covers and sat up at the side of the bed, stretching herself long, her feet on the ground and her head tilted back as her hands grasped at the back of her neck, working out the knots in her muscles.

“I want you to get back in this bed, cariño,” he grumbled, reaching his arm out long just to tug at the bottom of her sleep shirt. “Whatever’s broken’ll still be broken in five minutes.”

“Five minutes, huh?” She twisted around to look at him still laying against his pillow, one eyebrow arched toward her hairline. “What girl could possibly resist an offer that enticing?” She rose to her feet as he chuckled, opening her dresser drawers and grabbing a clean pair of underwear and some jeans, both of which she wrangled over her hips with impressive speed as she hopped her way to their bedroom door. There was still a small pair of lungs bellowing for mama and papa on the other side, but as soon as it was unlocked and Maria pulled it open, the little face that was there to greet them switched from abject misery to pure joy almost immediately.

“Mama!” Artie threw hands in the air, jumping up and down on his tip-toes expectantly. Maria acquiesced immediately, sweeping the boy up in her arms and holding him securely at her shoulder. “Teo and Cece broke something!” he informed both of them chirpily, and Tommy snorted even as he covertly pulled his boxers back over his thighs, still under the protection of the blanket.

“My son, the narc,” he said, holding his hands out.

“My son, the state’s witness,” Maria corrected him, pressing a sloppy kiss on the boy’s cheek before dropping the giggling bundle of curly hair and fire engine red pajamas on top of the covers, where he immediately made a beeline for his father’s waiting arms. “All yours, Casanova. I’m going downstairs – see what the other two have managed to destroy. My bet’s on a window.”

“Don’t be a pessimist, mi vida,” he chided her, and she paused in the doorway, “we also got a TV, some mirrors – I mean, the possibilities are endless.”

She didn’t even bother replying directly to him, letting the shake of her head and a few mumbled words do it for her, and he listened to her feet stomping down the stairs while Artie pushed himself into his arms, pressing his face against Tommy’s chest.

“Do you know what they broke, cachetes?” he whispered to the toddler, brushing some of his curls away from his eyes. The boy shook his head, though his smile only grew. “No? You were in bed?” Artie nodded this time, and Tommy laughed. “Yeah, I don’t believe that for a second.”

Artie said nothing to this, but he giggled again, reaching up to tug on the collar of Tommy’s t-shirt so he could pull himself closer to the man’s chest. He nestled in, a small, warm body curled against his father, and Tommy welcomed the embrace, more than willing to steal a few extra moments of rest so his heart could find some calm before the demands of the day began. He knew well enough that this was all very temporary – that someday Artie would decide that he was too old to start his mornings this way, that eventually he wouldn’t even want Tommy to hold his hand while they walked through the streets of Jackson. He still remembered the sting of it, the first time Sarah surreptitiously pulled away from him before they could cross an intersection together, barely seven years old but already convinced of her need for independence.

“It’s just you, me, and the alborotadores today,” he said softly, palming one of Artie’s comically rounded cheeks. It was almost disappointing that they were beginning to diminish; that the boy was growing into his looks, stretching taller by the day and developing a leanness to his limbs that was propelling him out of toddlerhood faster than Tommy expected or wanted. “What d'you wanna do?”

When Artie smiled he was all Tommy, his nose wrinkling out of habit, a wide grin stretched over his teeth. In moments of tranquility Maria's influence on his features became more evident, his dark eyes just as wide and observant, his nose, when settled, more rounded at its tip. His hair seemed to darken more and more every day – and it was the hair that always gave Tommy pause, so reminiscent of the cousin he would never get to meet, tightly-coiled and springy and barely able to be contained under a hat when the weather turned cold. It was the hair that always caught his uncle’s attention, too; where his eyes always lingered for a little longer than he meant for them to, his expression carefully neutral until the child’s attention was upon him and he would remember to immediately force a smile that never quite reached his eyes.

“Pancakes,” said Artie now, “with syrup.”

Forget the syrup one goddamn time, and Tommy was certain he would never hear the end of it. Still, he smiled down at the pair of eyes that were now carefully watching him, a young face that brightened considerably when he nodded in agreement. “Pancakes it is. Gotta go to the dining hall for it, though. You’re gonna have to get dressed – no pajamas allowed. You wanna get started, and then I’ll come in and help?” “Okay!” Invigorated by the promise of pancakes, Artie sprang up at once, crawling over his father and not even noticing the sharp ‘oof!’ pushed out of Tommy’s lungs when one of his small knees connected with sternum, dropping down on the other side of him and then wiggling down the side of the bed until his bare feet touched the cold hardwood. “Hurry!” the boy yelled, already dashing into the hallway. Tommy sat up slowly, one hand rubbing at his aching chest, a deep sigh leaving his throat.

He’d been awake for less than ten minutes, and already he could tell it was going to be a very long day.
