I just watched the Mario movie and
SPOILERS AHEAD (obviously)
listen. i like bouigi as much as the next person. i love bouigi. but i feel like some people are missing the real gold of this movie right now. So fandom-crazed rant incoming.
Mario and Donkey Kong.
just. Them???????
Mario saving DK from drowning right after arguing with him bc “oh shit no I actually care about this person very much”???? DK being all like “please don’t tell anybody you saved my life” and Mario just going “Of course I won’t”. Like SIR they are boyfriends tell me I’m wrong.
The part where they’re bonding over having shitty dads and then DK gets super defensive and Mario gets angry back but they immediately make up when they find a way to escape bc they can’t actually stay angry at each other??? That is the Good Stuff right there.
Then DK and Mario going berserk with powerups is just. YES. Let them fight by each others side and be super competitive. Because at the end of the day they still care about the other.
I am counting on this hellscape of a platform to see the beauty that is Kongario.

So I saw the Mario Movie today, and it was high-key average, but low-key fire!
(SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!)
1. Mario was the SWEETEST, when he literally was drop kicked by Peach in the beginning, but overall he was a bit of a generic hero (but then again are we surprised?) He wasn’t a jerk to his brother, in fact he was much better to him
2. Peach was a Queen! Enough said, she bounced off of Mario and Toad really well (Anya did us justice!) She was amazing 10/10
3. LUIGI MY HUSBAND MY BOY IS SO SMOL! But legit, he was so sweet, AND MARIO WAS PROTECTIVE OF HIM AND UGGHH! Wish my bros were like that (jk jk they are) Luigi was underutilised but they did kinda make u for it in the end with the Superstar powerup so yeah, I left pretty satisfied with it.
4.Not much to say on Toad, other than I’m glad he didn’t scream as much - Kegan Michael Kee did great
5. Same for Donkey Kong, not a lot, but less annoying other than his introduction - it was funny tho, well done Seth Rogen
6. BOWSER. BOWSER. HIS MUSICAL NUMBER. Peachespeachespeachespeaches- Jack Black was amazing (altho he is amazing in anything) loved him, generic but I loved him
Bonus: This hug completed my life
Tumblr media
In terms of world building, it was cool too, i mean they had a whole diorama in the mushroom council and it was so cute, the penguins at the beginning were everything. Kong City was cool as well - the Dark lands were elite, just everything was cool.
Also this: i was screaming internally
Tumblr media
edit: The only really big issue I had with this film tho was its pacing. The places where they could’ve slowed down, they didn’t - that small snippet of Luigi in the hot-air balloon and we got that flashback to when they were babies was good. Maybe if they fleshed out/spent a little more time on when DK and Mario were trapped in that fish (i forget it has a name), and they were just projecting their daddy issues on each other - we could’ve spent more time on that.
Overall tho, it was a pretty generic story for an animated movie targeted at kids, but enjoyable enough to bear with it, so imma rate a solid 6/10
edit: do take this with a grain of salt, obviously this is my personal opinion and you don’t have to agree, do feel free to reblog and leave thoughts in the comments

So if the bros actually are in Sarasaland for the sequel, why are they there? And if Daisy does appear, what would her role be? Perhaps something similar to DK’s role in the first movie?
Whatever it is, I hope they establish her as more than just Luigi’s love interest. I’ve seen some people mention how much they want her to appear in the sequel, but it’s only so she and Luigi can make goo-goo eyes at each other and nothing else.
If they are in Sarasaland, I'm going guess either
They need Princess Daisy's help either to find a macguffin or for political allegiance.
They got lost somewhere in their journey (maybe due to a malfunctioning warp pipe) and now need help finding their way home / to The Darklands to save Princess Peach.
In either case, I do imagine Princess Daisy would serve kind of a DK-ish role where she joins them partway through their adventure to give them a leg up. She acts as the muscle, mostly working in the background while having obvious on-screen importance in terms of turning the tide of battle.
As for her interaction with Luigi, I'm with you. Either I want her to have a respectful (albeit a little obvious) crush on Luigi that he stays entirely oblivious to for the entire movie or... better yet... I want them to handle it exactly the same way they handled Peach and Mario's relationship.
There's no moment that sparks fly, but you can see tiny things clicking into place: soft moments of connection and little instances of Daisy paying especially close attention to Lu's emotional state. From a distance it looks like just a strong friendship forming, but if you look harder you can see something a little stronger than that brewing beneath the surface.

The Best Movies I've Watched This Week
This past week, Monday through Friday, I've been watching movies. These are my thoughts of each of them.
--------------------------------------------------
Morbius - Average vampire movie, Awful Marvel film
Watching this one felt like such a drag, a real slog through pretty generic superhero origin stories. Got bored at one point and looked into the real Morbius, which is when I asked myself, "Why?" Like, why did they make a movie about a comic book vampire that looks like a less entertaining MoistCr1tikal? Why would you make the infirmed kid grow up to be a serial killer and act so whiny because his best friend didn't want to play vampires with him? Also, why did this experiment have to take place at sea with NONE OF THE EQUIPMENT SECURED, DO YOU NOT KNOW WHAT GEAR ADRIFT MEANS, SHIPMATE- Khm! Excuse me. Lost myself there. All in all, I wouldn't really bother this one. At least not until the last few minutes WHEN VULTURE SHOWS UP?! WHAT IS GOING ON?!
(4/10) Not enough morbs, even with so much time.
--------------------------------------------------
The Super Mario Brothers Movie - Exactly what I thought, and so much more!
When the movie was first announced, it received mixed reviews. On the one hand, we're getting a Super Mario movie with Charlie Day as Luigi and Jack Black as Bowser! On the other hand, we're getting a Super Mario movie with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anna Taylor Joy as Princess Peach, and Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong. Finally seeing it, I actually enjoyed it, though I do have my gripes, the biggest of them being the cast they chose. Over time I kinda started to get what they were going for with Mario; Chris Pratt playing the everyman, which actually works well since that's actually who Mario has been since the original Super Mario Brothers game. And, actually, Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong surprisingly made sense for his character, which, let's be honest, DK totally would be a showboating Kong celebrity. But, alas, my biggest gripe unfortunately still stands; Anna Taylor Joy as Princess Xena Warrior Princess #Number. I get that they were going for a professional/regal person, which she does fine, but... That's not really what Princess Peach from what I saw. She was all business and serious, which isn't the same Princess I've seen and played. Honestly, if they had a scene where she decks a troop of Koopas while drinking tea, I would have bought the role, but... She didn't, so I didn't. Bowser being hopelessly in love with Peach while throwing his weight around, Luigi being a timid scaredy-cat while looking for his brother; both spot on and having Po and that one nutcase from Always Sunny fit BEAUTIFULLY for these characters. And, of course, all the little references, too. Which, speaking of, I have one last question to ask; why didn't they have Cranky Kong, the biggest nostalgia crybaby, not make any sort of critique on anything other than "my son is a fat-headed idiot"?
(7/10) A fun trip through eight worlds but try not to get lost in the monumental cast.
--------------------------------------------------
Venom: Let There Be Carnage - I am SHOCKED how much I liked this movie!
When I first saw, well, the first Venom, I liked it, even if I couldn't see most of it. Unfortunately, when I looked for cool quotes from the movie, I got edgelord dialogue, which was... Ugh. When I heard Carnage was going to be in this PG-13 sequel, I had concerns, mostly because I'm a huge Carnage fan. Finally sitting down and watching this sequel, though, I... Well, I said it before; I am shocked at how much I love this movie! Really! The theme for this one was about relationships, which Venom and Eddie show so well; I can see why everyone said this was just one big rom-com superhero flick. Everything about their relationship screams with details of how their dynamics work; the in-fighting, the separation helping them grow as individuals, and their synchronized dialogue is all so entertaining to watch. Unfortunately, as much as they fixed from the last movie, they still couldn't fix the biggest one, which was Eddie Brock. Just... Eddie Brock. He's still the same sweaty, timid loser. He looked like he was about to throw up throughout the entire movie. Also, Carnage is in a PG-13 movie... Oh, shit, I just realized the F-word rule! They used it perfectly! Holy shit!
(8/10) If you aren't willing to eat heads with your spouse after this one, are you really symbiotic?
--------------------------------------------------
Kung Fu Panda 4 - This McDojo just keeps rolling...
I'm not gonna sugar-coat it. This is probably the worst film I watched this week, and it's mostly because I went into this expectations of it being an at least decent film. Running on the cinema flavor of the year, "Passing the torch," Po must retire as Dragon Warrior and become the next Oogway. While searching for his successor, he meets a thief named Zhen, who I honestly loved watching play off with Po. Their chemistry is so hilarious to watch with Po as the innocent man-child and Zhen as the street-smart con artist. I'd love to see more of their dynamic. That said, it doesn't change that this film is easily the weakest of this Kung Fu Quartet. The villain is The Chameleon, whose motivation is so transparent, it's honestly insulting that they didn't use as a joke in this film. Oh, and Tai Lung is back, which is great seeing him come back and, y'know, be Tai Lung, but it's also obvious nostalgia bait when you realize that they only brought back Tai Lung. Sure, Shen and Kai make a come-back, but it's not as important as Tai Lung... or Scott, for that matter. And the worst sin of all in this is Master Shifu, who has stopped being the "gruff, yet wise elder" and is now just "mean old man". The only reason Shifu is in this film is because Po needs to be nagged at because his dads aren't doing it. Oh, and by the way, if you want to see two people acting like a married couple without being married, it's these two. Seriously, half the film is them chasing after Po while being the best of friends/roommates/business associates you will ever see. Oh, and the Furious Five are here, too... Technically.
(4/10) This film is like a dumpling... I've never had dumplings.
--------------------------------------------------
One Piece: Stampede - A pirate adventure with an easy-to-follow treasure map.
I am a huge fan of One Piece. Heck, I'd even go as far as to say that it's one of my favorites. That being said, while I enjoyed this film, parts of it did feel a little predictable. The villain wants to prove he's the strongest, while the other villain wants to show up Roger by creating a new era where it's basically a free-for-all between Douglas Bullet and the rest of the world. Honestly, I feel like this movie was just for the cameos, which are usually some of the worst parts of these films lately. It's not as bad as Gold, but I've seen it done better in another film (stay tuned). But I had fun, and that's what really matters, right? Right?
(6/10) Come aboard and leave behind all your depth and charm~!
--------------------------------------------------
One Piece: Red - One Piece has gone Disney in the BEST WAY POSSIBLE!
Just like the previous film, this One Piece movie has a lot of cameos. However, UNLIKE the previous film, the cameos are used perfectly! Everyone has a role to play, no matter how small it is. The villain of this film, Uta, has a relatable goal, even if her power is unrelatable. Honestly, Tot Musica isn't the wildest concept in a world like One Piece when you have people gaining powers by eating fruit, a bear and a deer can talk and do Kung Fu by two different methods for each, and you can ignore whatever you want by simply believing it can't happen. Honestly, Uta kinda feels like a music-streamer, like IronMouse or Nyanners, and her motivation to create a world free of strife is so heartbreaking. Oh, and yes, I've been arguing this in my head for about ten minutes and I can definitely say that this movie is a musical, since each musical number serves a purpose in the film. And each one is a bop, and if it ain't a bop, then it's bringing me to tears. That or it's setting the tone by summoning Tot Musica. The only gripe I have is with the ending because... It's just too darn sad. Granted, it's not canon, but Uta is, and... I dunno. Oh, and Shanks is here, too, and... Yeah! That is definitely what I'd expect Shanks to do! Heck, it's what I expect any of them to do! This movie does the cameos right, it does the music right, and the only thing I don't think it does right is the ending. Oh, and Sunny Go is a plush baby.
(9/10) And the melody will last forever in your...

Saw your 'Mario has PTSD too' post and I love it. The idea of him trying to pretend that everything is fine for Luigi is just so... augh. I love this trope of a character botteling up their feelings for the sake of others until they can't anymore. May I add a little something? Mario also had a near death experience from getting exploded from the rainbow road and then being eaten by an eel. So I guess he would have PTSD from this too
(Referring to this post!)
Thanks!! It really gets to me too. I just think Mario is very much wrapped up in being The Strong One, The One Who Protects And Makes Things All Right and Can Be Leaned On, and he WANTS to be that post-movie more than anything because goodness knows Luigi needs it (not even just from a mental perspective, but physical too, considering the poor thing hardly slept or got any food/water for what seemed like multiple days!) but there's also his own exhaustion and the dawning realization of how close things were, how his brother could have very easily died if one little thing happened differently, and the guilt, so much GUILT for essentially being the reason all this happened - it's a lot!! And then the guilt would compound once he starts to slip and knows that Luigi can probably tell, and he doesn't want to make him MORE worried when his little brother's already going through his own struggles, so that just makes him try HARDER to seem Totally Normal and Fine and In Control, and it's not a good cycle. :( (But it doesn't take too long before the inevitable breakdown and the brothers getting to cry it out together. Sometimes you just need to do some messy crying and hugging to feel better!!!!)
And yeah, I think that makes sense! Mario didn't have a cakewalk of a time either, that's for sure, even if there were some nice/peaceful moments in his journey. I saw in one fic someone theorize that maybe loud sounds would instantly make him shift into danger mode and being really on edge because of the blue shell for a little while, and I think that makes sense. And man, the eel stuff really does get more disturbing the more you think about it!! DK and Mario sniping at each other is funny, but I still really wish that scene had been given a little more room to breathe and resonate as a stronger, sadder Darkest Moment in the movie. Especially the line "at least your brother's not gonna die because of you!" which is heavy stuff, man! Mario's clearly angry and upset and feels like the situation is all his fault and he's never going to see Luigi again (heck, he'll never see the rest of his family or his home again either) and he tried so hard but he's finally reached a truly hopeless state where he just wants to wallow in how he's let everyone down and be left alone, which is rare for him. It's a brief moment, but a rough one for sure.
(And maybe once it's all over, he closes his eyes and sometimes still sees himself there, wet and cold and broken down, and there's a moment of blind panic where he's convinced he's imagined everything that happened past that point and he's about to be digested and die down here at the bottom of the ocean, with the horrible certainty that Luigi's dead too, that his brother died alone and scared all because of his stupidity, and he can't breathe, he can't BREATHE - and then he wakes up/comes back to the moment and it's all okay, he knows rationally that it's okay now but he still can't fully calm down because what if NEXT TIME.....)

Going Against the Current: Finale
Unbeknownst to the now engaged royals, they had a witness. An imp with purple tentacles for hair watched from afar, chortling to themselves. They grinned, pearly white fangs glistening in the light. The imp reached into their suit jacket and produced a piece of chalk. With precision, they wrote a circle with symbols around it on the nearby wall and then leaped into it.
.
.
.
As the creature disappeared into the circle, a portal opened up elsewhere and they re-appeared to a dark, underground lair. The walls were lined with shelves filled with ancient tomes and strange artifacts; the scene was illuminated by floating blue fire. The imp made their way to a large stone table in the center of the room where none other than King Boo sat. The glistening purple crown sat on his head. King Boo’s vibrant mauve eyes turned to the imp, a devilish grin stretching across his fangs. "Ah, Marquis Masque! Welcome back, friend," he said. "What is your report?"
The marquis bowed. "My lord, I bring interesting news from the Darklands: King Bowser has proposed to his consort!” he said.
"Interesting news indeed," King Boo said, tapping his nubby appendage on the armrest of his chair. "How… heartwarming. After so many misses, the mighty Demon King has found love, and to that deplorable, cowardly plumber in green no less.”
Venom laced his voice. The magical crown on his head glowed brighter; several books were thrown out of their shelves. King Boo snarled, “Six wretched years! I’ve been confined in this infernal mansion for that long!” he shouted. “Meanwhile those two are enjoying their freedom and basking in their love for each other!”
“King Boo, if I may, what better way to get revenge on the green plumber than to crash his wedding~”
King Boo laughed, “This is why you and I are friends, Masque. You always come up with the most devilish of plans.”
Masque chuckled, their tentacled-hair bouncing as they moved. The marquis jumped onto the stone table and adjusted their tie. “I have already called an ally to aid you in this endeavor.”
“Masque, you spoil me,” said Boo. “Who is this ally you speak of?”
Suddenly the doors opened. A hulking figure walked into the room, the rustling of a cape followed behind. King Boo rose from his chair and floated forward, “Well, this is a surprise.”
“Hello, Boo.”
King K. Rool stomped into his office; the light from the floating flames reflected off his gold armor and crown. His bulging eye stared off into the distance while the other focused on the ghostly ruler; needle-like teeth peeked out of his snout. Rool snorted, “Heard you’ve got revenge plans and needed a way outta here,” he said.
“Marquis Masque has just informed me that the Mario brother, Luigi, is getting married. I plan to crash his wedding!”
Rool scratched his chin, “Hmm… Crashing weddings ain’t really my style, but I have been out of the game for a while,” he mused. “I do miss causing chaos.”
After their final defeats, both villainous rulers were imprisoned in their own way. This “era of peace” or whatever has truly put a damper in their schemes. Rool approached the stone table and sat down. Boo crossed his arms. “You know, Luigi isn’t the only one that’s going to be present,” he said. “Donkey Kong might be there~”
Rool raised an eyebrow at Boo's statement. "Donkey Kong? That big ape?" he asked with a growl. "What could he possibly have to do with this?"
Boo smirked. "DK is close friends with the plumber boys. His presence at the wedding is guaranteed,” he said.
Masque’s tentacles twitched with excitement. “Oh~” they purred. “Two for one! Nobody could have ever foreseen such a dastardly duo would crash a royal wedding; you both get revenge against your greatest enemies!”
Rool leaned back in his chair, considering the possibilities. He had always been a fan of elaborate schemes and grandiose plans, but lately he had been feeling restless and bored. Maybe crashing a wedding was just what he needed to shake things up.
"Alright," he said finally, standing up from his seat. "I'm in. Let's crash this wedding and cause some chaos."
Boo grinned wickedly, his eyes glowing with anticipation. "Excellent," he said. "Let’s give good ol’ Luigi the best wedding gift ever~”
.
.
.
The morning after their double proposal, the soon-to-be husbands initiated the wedding preparations. Bowser had pretty much handled the planning for the most part, all the information kept safely in a large leatherbound book in his office. However, now, the two could sit down and discuss those plans, tweaking them here and there. The two held hands as they reviewed vendors and locations, the rings of silver and obsidian glistening in the kingdom’s volcanic glow. Luigi flipped a page, “Oh! Are we having the wedding here?” he asked.
Bowser’s tail wagged, “W-well, I was thinking we could just have it here as opposed to the Moon or something,” he snorted. “But! We can always have it somewhere else if you’d like.”
“No, no, tesoro. I- I do want to have it here, at home! I’d feel safe knowing our home would keep our special day safe; plus, I-I a-am going to be ruling this kingdom too…”
I’m going to be ruling this kingdom too… Those words sent him into overdrive, purring louder than an engine. Luigi laughed and smiled, squeezing his hand. He couldn't believe how lucky he was to have found someone like Luigi. Not only was he kind, loving, and supportive, but he also understood the weight of his responsibilities as a future ruler. It wasn't easy to balance personal desires with the needs of the kingdom, but Luigi made it all seem effortless.
As they continued to plan their special day together, Bowser felt a sense of comfort knowing that they would be celebrating in the safety of their own home. It was a small gesture, but it meant the world to him.
Luigi's laughter and smile were infectious, and he couldn't help but feel grateful for every moment they spent together. He knew that ruling a kingdom would come with its challenges, but with Luigi by his side, he felt confident that they could overcome anything. And having someone to go to when he wasn’t being a king would do wonders; to wake up feeling those tiny arms around him every morning would be the best feeling in the world.
Together, they would build a future filled with love, happiness, and prosperity for their kingdom and each other. And on their special day, surrounded by the warmth of their home and the love of their friends.
“Your Highnesses, the Toadstool King and Queen have arrived.”
Bowser and Luigi looked to the side. Kamek had appeared beside them, accidentally interrupting their moment. The advisor leaned on his wand, “They are waiting for you in the foyer,” he said. The engaged couple stood up and followed Kamek out of the office. As they made their way to the foyer, Bowser and Luigi couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. They took a deep breath and entered the room, where they were greeted by the Toadstool King and Queen.
“Fratellino!”
Mario ran to him and trapped him in a powerful hug, even lifting Luigi off his feet. The younger twin smiled and patted his arms. Peach approached the group, cradling her swollen belly, “We received the news this morning! We just had to come here and congratulate you!” she exclaimed. Mario let go of Luigi, allowing him to walk over and hug Peach.
The expecting queen giggled, “You have no idea how happy I am.”
She broke away from their hug and wiped her face, then she turned her attention to Bowser. “Well? Where’s my hug?!” The Koopa King jumped slightly and obliged, gently wrapping a hand around her and pulling her into a side hug. Peach smirked, “I’m pregnant. Not made of glass,”
“I’m just being cautious, Peach!”
Despite their past, the two treated each other like best friends. And ever since Peach revealed her pregnancy, Bowser has been protective and cautious around her; he would be very wary of his strength and during their outings, he’d sometimes growl at those who got too close. Mario didn’t help in any way, too busy enforcing his own protective tendencies; Peach essentially had two very powerful bodyguards around her. Well, three. Luigi couldn’t lie that he would sometimes shock people if they got too close. Queen Peach didn’t seem to mind this at all. Mario clapped his hands together, “So! When’s the big day? What’re the plans?” he asked.
Luigi grabbed Bowser’s free hand, “We were just discussing that,” he replied. “Bowser actually had the majority of it planned out!”
Bowser rubbed the back of his neck, “I-I’ve been planning this for a while now, okay? Everything should be set up within a month or so,” he said sheepishly.
“Did you ask the kingdoms to cater for the wedding?” said Peach. “I’m sure they would be happy to, now that their supplies are being used for a genuine wedding.”
She jabbed an elbow against Bowser’s stomach; the massive koopa turned scarlet with embarrassment over the reminder of his final stunt. Even though it was all water under the bridge, they liked to tease him about his past villainous career. Bowser let go of Peach, “I’d actually like that. Make it symbolic that I really am leaving all of that shit behind me by asking if I could have those items.”
Mario adjusted his hat, “Just say the word. We can get in contact with the other rulers in no time!”
“Oh, we have to call Daisy! We absolutely cannot exclude her from this!” added Peach.
Bowser chuckled. “Already taken care of.”
The two stopped a moment to look at him, then each other before smirking at Bowser. The king hid his red face in his hands; Luigi chuckled and hugged his side, “Why don’t we discuss this in the dining room? We still have to send the invites and get the venue ready!”
Willing to spare any more teasing, the Toadstool Queen and King relented. The group of royals headed towards the dining room, excitedly chattering about the upcoming event.
.
.
.
The wedding planning took slightly longer than intended; nevertheless, everything was ready! Guests from all over the world made their way to the Darklands’ capital, excited to attend the union. As Queen Peach predicted, the other kingdoms were more than happy to help in the preparations; an outdoor venue was booked and the coronation would take place after their honeymoon in the Sea Kingdom. Rosalina was, in fact, in the galaxy and was going to make it to the event.
Clothes were tailored, catering was meticulously planned, and the entertainment was carefully selected to ensure that everyone had a great time. The Darklands' army was on high alert, making sure that the wedding went off without a hitch. Everything was perfectly in place. With everything being handled by others, the grooms were allowed to get ready.
Luigi stood in front of a vanity, standing still as Mario focused on tying in his bow tie. Luigi couldn't help but feel a bit nervous. This was a big day for both him and Bowser, and he wanted everything to go smoothly. He took a deep breath and looked at himself in the mirror. He was wearing a black tuxedo with a white shirt and a bright green bow tie. Mario was wearing the same, except his bow tie was red.
"Hey, you look great!" Mario said as he finished tying his bow tie.
Luigi smiled back at him. "You think so?"
Mario nodded and fixed his hair. They both took one last look in the mirror before turning to each other. "You ready for this?" Mario asked.
Luigi nodded. "Yeah, I think so."
Mario put his hand on Luigi's shoulder. "Don't worry, everything's going to be perfect."
Luigi smiled again, feeling reassured by Mario's words. He knew that they had each other's backs no matter what happened. Luigi felt his anxiety wash away as he thought about the bond he shared with his brother. They had been through so much together, from battling enemies to traveling galaxies. But no matter what obstacles they faced, they always had each other's backs.
Mario's words reminded Luigi that he would always have his back, and that together they could overcome anything. He knew that if he ever needed help or support, Mario would be there for him without hesitation. And he doesn’t have anything to be afraid of! It’s his wedding day, he should be rejoicing!
“Sorridi, fratello. Stai per sposare il re dei tuoi sogni!” said Mario.
Luigi chuckled. He had been waiting for this day for so long, and he wasn't going to let anything ruin it. Suddenly they perked up at the sound of running footsteps. Daisy burst through the door, effortlessly catching her breath before speaking. “You two ready?” she asked.
Mario raised an eyebrow, “Uh… yeah. But, what’s the rush?”
A cheeky smile pulled at her lips. “There’s been a small change in plans,” said Daisy. “Luigi needs to get to the altar like yesterday.”
The green-cladded groom reached towards the vanity and quickly put on his earrings. While Luigi rushed to put on his shoes, Mario tried to get an answer from Daisy about the sudden change since he was going to walk Luigi down the aisle but the Sarasaland Empress refused; such behavior was not uncommon for her, but this was out of the ordinary even for her. In fact, she’s been acting odd ever since the engagement announcement. Mario hoped she didn’t decide now would be a good time to play one of her pranks; he swore to Grambi, if she does anything, he will crucify her. Luigi adjusted his sleeves, “Come on, Mario. Everyone’s waiting!” he said, “We’ll figure it out later!”
Mario quit grilling Daisy for answers. He followed his brother out of his room and out into the wedding hall. Luigi’s footsteps echoed off the walks. He focused on the sound, lest he be distracted by his racing heartbeat. The sudden change doesn’t bother him one bit; at the end of the day, he will get to call Bowser his husband. The thought caused his steps to quicken. The feeling of pure happiness and excitement was overwhelming, and he couldn't contain it. His heart raced faster and faster, as if trying to keep up with the pace of his thoughts. He felt alive, invigorated, and unstoppable. This was the moment he had been waiting for, and he knew that nothing could bring him down from this high. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, savoring the feeling of pure joy that filled every inch of his being.
He reached forward and opened the large entrance doors.
The wedding altar stands tall and proud, its grandeur commanding the attention of all attendees. Its formidable structure is adorned with abundant greenery and fragrant blooms, illuminated by the warm glow of flickering candles. As Luigi approached the altar, his heart pounded with anticipation for what would soon transpire under this majestic canopy. The delicate lace curtains billow in the gentle breeze, framing the focal point where vows will be exchanged and lives forever entwined. His stepson, Ludwig, sat by a grand piano; ready to get everything started.
Guests sat in their seats, watching with excitement in their eyes. Peach stood by the altar, beaming with just a small glimmer of confusion. Luigi could only smile and shrug in response as he continued his way down the aisle, Mario and Daisy walking closely on his heels. The two diverted once they reached the altar; Daisy went to stand by Peach, while Mario stood by DK and the other groomsmen. Kammy stood by the altar, ready to officiate the ceremony. The verdant groom stood in his place, anxiously fiddling with his tie. Everything was in place…
But where was Bowser?
They waited patiently for the other groom. Perhaps he was still getting ready; Luigi knew it took him some extra time to get ready, considering his size and his own personal preferences. Luigi couldn't help but chuckle to himself as he thought about his fiancé's grooming routine. He knew that Bowser would never settle for anything less than perfection, especially on such an important day.
As he waited, Luigi took a deep breath and tried to calm his nerves. He had been looking forward to this day for months, and now that it was finally here, he couldn't believe how quickly the time had flown by. He glanced around at the other guests who were also waiting patiently for the ceremony to begin. Some were chatting quietly amongst themselves, while others were lost in their own thoughts. However, such lack of activity was not settling well with Luigi, whose anxiety was going through the roof as minutes ticked by.
One…
Ten….
Forty-five minutes…
An hour passed and still nothing. Luigi glanced over his shoulder to look at Mario; he approached him and whispered something to him, but he could barely register it. The whole cathedral started shaking violently. Guests gasped and yelped. A loud roar tore through the peaceful calm. And just as quickly as it came, the tremor was gone. Luigi and Mario exchanged worried glances. They knew that something was not right. The shaking had been too intense to be a mere earthquake. And what was that roar? But they were stopped by the sound of the piano starting.
Everyone gathered themselves as best they could and stood up. A pair of Paratroopas nearby pulled open the door. Luigi reached into his pocket and retrieved a handkerchief, promptly wiping away his nervous sweat. In came Junior, looking adorable in his little green suit.  Rosalina floated nearby, casting a faint celestial glow as she guided the little prince. Luigi couldn’t help but notice the outfit she wore; a white blouse with a navy blue skirt with silver lining. I made that… Wait! That’s why she was nearby! Bowser had already sent her an invite, he thought. That kooky koopa and his scheming.
Junior arrived at the altar, giggling and holding the rings over his head, accidentally tipping them over; Rosalina discreetly pushed the pillow up, covering her mouth to muffled her laugh. Luigi smiled at him and signaled for them to get to their positions. With a dramatic flare, Wendy walked down the aisle and threw petals flowers into the air. The awaiting groom took a shaky breath, tears welling up in his eyes as he saw her in her red dress. It also meant the moment he’s been waiting for was looming closer. Wendy stopped by the altar, “You’re going to absolutely flip, Mama.” she said.
Luigi raised an eyebrow and before he could even ask what she meant, the princess walked away. He looked over at Mario again, who shrugged, not having a clue on what Wendy was referring to. His gaze quickly moved to Daisy; the empress responded to this by smirking. The sound of heavy footsteps caught his attention. He looked up and his jaw just dropped.
Gasps and whispers broke out through the wedding hall.
The photographers went into a frenzy.
And Luigi nearly crumbled to his knees.
The King of the Darklands walked into the wedding hall, his father walking beside him. Bowser walked with grace, showing everyone present he was absolutely owning the white wedding dress he wore. His scarlet locks were styled in waves and neatly held back by a red veil. As he walked down the aisle, the guests couldn't help but stare in awe at the King's stunning appearance. Luigi took in as many details as he could possibly handle. His movements were unhindered by the lengthy skirt, indicating Bowser knew what he was doing. The dress complimented his physique and his scales beautifully; he even wore a pair of crystals hanging from gold around his horns, simulating earrings.
Luigi felt a sense of admiration for Bowser's confidence and bold fashion choices. It was clear that his King had put a lot of thought and effort into his appearance, and it paid off in spades. He even held the bouquet of flowers and writhing baby Piranha plants with absolute ease. The guests whispered amongst themselves, marveling at the sight before them. It must certainly be shocking to see such a prominently masculine man in such a beautiful dress; however, Luigi wasn’t focused on that. He felt… like he knew why he was doing this and the events from a few weeks ago started to make sense; the epiphany caused a tear to spill.
He reached into his pocket for his handkerchief, but was stopped by a scaled hand wiping his face. The soft glove and rough scales indicative of its owner. Luigi looked up, meeting Bowser’s red eyes. He handed the deadly bouquet to Daisy, without looking away. The king gently cupped his face. "My deepest apologies for the delay, everybody," Bowser said in a surprisingly calm voice. "There was a slight problem with my dress today."
A collective sigh of relief broke through the silence. A deep rumbling laugh built in Bowser’s throat; he signaled everybody to sit down. Then, he took Luigi’s hands into his own. Kammy rubbed her hands together, “All right, let’s get this show started, dearies.” she whispered to herself. She waved open a book then cleared her throat. “Dearly beloved! Friends, allies of the Darklands, and others! We gather here today to witness the union of King Bowser Daemon Koopa and Duke Luigi Charlie Mario!”
Kamella started with a deep speech about the power of their marriage and what this brings for the New World. As the mage continued her speech, the guests looked on in awe. Bowser and Luigi stood in front of each other, holding hands and smiling at each other. It was a sight that many had never thought they would see - the King of the Darklands and the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom coming together in marriage. And with those words said, Kamella moved onto the next phase of the ceremony.
“Now, we move onto the vows; my king, you may go first.”
Bowser nodded, his tail swishing from side to side anxiously. He took a deep breath and looked into Luigi's eyes, feeling his heart swell with love. He had never imagined that he would find someone who could accept him for who he was, flaws and all. But Luigi had shown him that love was not about perfection, but about accepting each other's imperfections and growing together.
"My dearest Luigi," Bowser began, his voice trembling slightly. "From the moment I met you, I knew that you were the one for me. You have brought light into my life where there was once darkness. You have shown me what it means to love unconditionally and to be loved in return."
He paused for a moment, taking in the sight of Luigi's smile and the tears glistening in his eyes.
"I promise to always be there for you, through thick and thin. In times of need, I’ll be by your side, to support you in your dreams and aspirations, and to stand by your side no matter what challenges we may face. And in battle, I vow to be your fury; if you feel your bravery has been stretched thin, I will not hesitate, not for a second, to lend you mine.”
Bowser said the rest of his vows with pride and ended them with a strong huff of smoke, fighting his tears back lest he ruin his daughter’s work on his makeup. Luigi squeezed his hands. The verdant groom smiled and began his own set of vows. “Bowser, since the moment we got together, I knew that you were the one for me. Your strength, your determination, and your fierce loyalty to those you love have always inspired me. And now, as I stand here before you, I vow to be your partner in all things.
“I promise to support you in your endeavors, to stand by your side through thick and thin, and to always be there for you when you need me. I will cherish you, respect you, and honor our commitment to each other for all time. Together we will face whatever challenges come our way, and we will emerge stronger and more united than ever before. Bowser, I love you with all my heart, and I am honored to be your husband."
A muffled wail marked Luigi’s end of his vows. The grooms turned to the side. Mario (who was biting down on his knuckle to muffle his cries) was trying to console a hysterical Kamek, who covered his beak with a handkerchief and apologized for his outburst. Kamella turned around and wiped her eyes before returning to her original position, “All right, dearies. Let’s get this over with; I don’t think our hearts can take this,” she said. Multiple, weepy guests agreed as they tried to wipe their tears. The two nodded and put their rings on. With a wave of her hand, the book closed and the podium disappeared.
“By the power vested in me and with everyone present as witnesses, I declare you husbands!” she said, raising hands. “You may now kiss the Italian!”
“FINALLY!”
Luigi leaped into Bowser’s arms and wrapped his arms around his neck and pulled his king into a deep kiss. Bowser held onto him, refusing to ever let go, and spun in a circle. The guests leapt out of their seats, clapping and cheering. Mario couldn’t hold in any longer and started bawling his eyes out; Peach reached out and hugged him, gently patting his head. Kamella left her pot to console an even more happily crying Kamek. Even Daisy stood like a soldier with her arms crossed with a smile and tears on her face; there was not a single dry eye in sight. After a long moment, the two separated (only because they needed to breathe) and hugged each other.
The new married couple walked down the aisle, Luigi sitting comfortably on his husband’s arm. As the grooms exited the wedding hall, so did their families and guests.
.
.
.
The reception was in full swing! The music was loud and upbeat, filling the room with energy. Guests were mingling and laughing, drinks in hand. The dance floor was packed with people showing off their best moves. The aroma of delicious food wafted through the air, tempting everyone to indulge in the feast. The decorations were stunning, creating a festive atmosphere that added to the joyous mood of the occasion. It was clear that everyone was having a great time and enjoying themselves to the fullest.
Bowser and Luigi stood in the middle, swaying with the music, stealing a kiss every now and then. On occasion, a guest would stop by and congratulate them, wishing them nothing but the best in their marriage. The human leaned against his chest, “So this is the reason for the sudden interest in dresses.”
The Koopa King smirked. “I wanted to show you that you don’t have to be afraid. As long as you aren’t hurting anybody, you shouldn’t have to hide your form of expression.”
Luigi smiled up at Bowser, feeling grateful for his understanding and support. He had always been self-conscious about his love for fashion and dressing up, especially in front of others who might judge him. But being with Bowser made him feel safe and accepted. Maybe he has already been lending him some of his bravery since the very beginning.
“Hey, you two!”
The kings turned around to the sound of Peach’s voice. The queen walked over to them, a puffy-eyed Mario held onto her arm; Daisy walked behind them with her hands on her head. The Toadstool queen beamed at them, “Look at you two! You’re practically glowing!” she said.
Bowser wrapped an arm around Luigi’s waist, purring and nuzzling into his curly hair. “I’ve been waiting for this moment for years.”
“Feeling is mutual, tesoro.”
The crowd watched the two loving husbands, not caring about the public display of affection. Daisy leaned forward, “So, Bowsy, guess my lessons paid off~” she said with a smirk.
Peach looked at her. “What do you mean?”
“Oh, you just think the muscle man over here just knows how to walk in a dress? I had to teach him, so he wouldn’t face plant on his own wedding day!”
“Hey!”
Daisy laughed and snorted. Rosalina bumped her hip against her side, “Daisy, play nice.”
“I am. Just reminding him of the princess who saved his tail,” replied Daisy.
“Thank you for helping me, Daisy,” said Bowser with an eye roll. “And thank you for coming all this way, Rosalina.”
The celestial sorceress smiled. “I’d never miss my friends’ happiest day.”
The group continued talking and drinking, enjoying each other’s company. As the night wore on, the conversation became more animated and lively. They shared stories, jokes, and memories, laughing and teasing each other in equal measure. The drinks flowed freely, and they toasted to their friendship and the good times they had shared together. The festive mood seemed to last eternity. That is… until Luigi felt the air grow cold.
He grabbed Bowser’s arm in a deadly grip.
The king looked at him with a worried expression. He kneeled down, pushing the layers of fabric away. “Luigi? Babe, what’s wrong?”
“Don’t you feel that?”
Bowser pulled him close, his eyes turned into slits and a growl built up in his throat as dark clouds formed overhead. Guests in their proximity looked around nervously. Suddenly phantom gates appeared, blocking the exits and the guards. Kremlings jumped out of the bushes, brandishing all sorts of weaponry, laughing and snapping their claws to elicit fear. The Koopa king pulled his husband closer, “EVERYONE GET BACK!”
Cold malevolent laughter cut through the panic and confusion.
King Boo materialized in the center of the area, cackling like no tomorrow. Luigi started to tremble at the sight of his formerly imprisoned enemy. Bowser growled, “What the fuck are you doing here, Boo?”
The ghostly ruler smirked and floated towards a table, chuckling as a set of Toads ran away from him. He grabbed a glass of wine and swirled it around, “Oh~ I’ve just come to congratulate you both. Your love is just like a fairy tail! Two souls going against the current to be together~ How sweet…” then his expression soured. “Too bad I was too busy trapped in a mansion to witness the ceremony.”
Luigi flinched at the sound of his words, but then glared at him. He gently pushed away Bowser, “Like I’d invite you.”
King Boo choked on his wine, then started laughing even more, apparently finding Luigi’s defense humorous. Bowser growled and stepped forward but a gunshot stopped him. One of the phantom gates opened and in walked a familiar yet unwanted guest. King Rool stomped through, holding the musket on his shoulders. “Yo, KB! Why don’t you just sit back and relax? I got this!”
The reptilian king slapped his belly and laughed, then readied his weapon. People screamed and made a run for the exit but the armed kremlings stopped them. Rool looked at the guests, smiling and enjoying the fear in their eyes… Until he saw the bride. Or well, the groom wearing a bride’s dress. His jaw dropped and so did his musket, “B-Bowser?”
The Koopa King’s eyes narrowed. “Krusha?”
Rool dropped his gun. “What the hell are you doing here?”
“THIS IS MY WEDDING, YOU DIPSHIT!”
The gears seemed to be turning in Rool’s head. King Boo raised an eyebrow, “Hehe. It seems you two know each other.”
Rool turned to him and snarled. “BOO, YOU MOTHERFUCKER! YOU DIDN’T TELL ME THIS WAS MY EX’S WEDDING!”
One could hear a pin drop.
Everyone turned to look at Bowser, who closed his eyes and turned his head away. DK muscled his way through the crowd. He put a hand on Bowser’s shoulder, “I’m sorry. What did you call him?”
Bowser snorted smoke. “What? That’s his name. Krusha K. Rool.”
“You two used to date?!” piped Daisy.
“Listen! My taste in men got way better!” Bowser said defensively and picking Luigi up.
A glass breaking disrupted their conversation. Boo floated upwards, looking rather peeved at being ignored. His crown glowed violently, “I don’t care about this! Rool, we have a deal!”
Rool adjusted his own crown. “Oh, yeah? Well, you can stick that deal where that purple light of yours don’t shine!” he hissed. “What kinda asshole do you think I am? I never would have agreed to this if I’d known this was Bowser’s wedding.”
DK raised an eyebrow, “You’re perfectly okay with starving an entire nation for hostile takeover, but draw the line at crashing your ex’s wedding?”
“You shut up and stay outta this.”
Thunder rumbled overhead. The two arguing kings looked at the source; Luigi stood by Bowser’s side, eyes glowing a vibrant blue. The Koopa King exhaled flames and took off his veil and horn decorations, “Hey, Peaches. Hold these.”
“Yep.”
Rool and King nervously backed away as the angry husbands plus their wedding party approached them. It was a mistake to come here, on this day. Boo wished he’d stayed at the mansion and Krusha wished he had never left Crocodile Isle…
.
.
.
Bowser plopped onto the bed, letting out a yawning roar; Luigi plopped right next to him. After giving Krusha a first-hand lesson in the powers of electricity and sending Boo running back to the Underwhere, the two resumed their wedding festivities like nothing happened. Bowser threw the bouquet (Rosalina caught it to everyone’s shock considering how determined Birdette and Daisy were) and they got to cut their cake (the koopalings were coming down from their sugar highs in their hotel rooms). And so, the husbands finally had time for themselves.
The beastly king slowly stood up, “I’m way too tired for anything tonight.”
Luigi let out a muffled reply. Bowser reached behind him, struggling to reach his dress’ zipped. His husband raised his head, Need help?” he asked.
“Yes, please. The dress hype is officially gone-so.”
The new King chuckled and stood up; Bowser turned around, exposing his back to him. Luigi quickly unzipped the dress, and just as quickly his husband wiggled out of it. The human laughed at his husband’s actions and took off the stuffy tuxedo. He yawned, feeling the exhaustion of the day catching up to him. Bowser shuffled onto the pillows, “Come here, I’ve got enough energy for a tiddy hug.”
“Yippe!”
In a less than graceful way, Luigi jumped into his outstretched arms and burrowed his face into his pectorals. Bowser laughed and began to purr, enjoying his husband’s warmth. Luigi couldn't help but feel embarrassed by his lack of grace, but Bowser's warm embrace made him forget all about it. He felt safe and loved in his husband's arms, and he knew that nothing could harm him as long as Bowser was there to protect him.
As they laid there, wrapped up in each other's embrace, Luigi couldn't help but think about how lucky he was to have found someone like Bowser. Despite their differences, they had managed to build a life together filled with love and happiness.
And as Bowser continued to purr contentedly, Luigi knew that he would do anything to keep this feeling of warmth and safety for the rest of his life. He made a silent promise to himself to always cherish Bowser and their relationship. He knew that there would be challenges ahead, but he was willing to face them as long as they were together. With a smile on his face, Luigi hugged Bowser tighter, feeling grateful for the love that they shared.

Movie Review Blurbs: The Super Mario Bros. Movie
The Highlights
-The brothers were the most endearing part for me, they had a wonderful dynamic that not only made me like them as a duo, but as individuals (from the Mario media I know, there wasn't much focus on their personality so it was nice watching something that gave them more character)
-Jack Black got to sing his silly songs and honestly that's all that matters
-The movie making fun of the egregious Italian accents in the beginning was a good gag, especially considering the two are still Italian in the movie and are given more accurate accents (also I love that they're canonically from Brooklyn lmao)
-Mario was a fucking crack head before the isekai and I enjoy that fact very much
-Yoshi avengers end credit scene
-Surprisingly decent voice acting, they all delivered (especially Charlie Day and Jack Black)
-The penguins, the Dry Bones, SHY GUYS
-Toad is a fucking criminal apparently who helps outsiders break into the castle and goes outside the Mushroom Kingdom to do god knows what
-Off the top of my head, my favorite part of the movie was Luigi running from the Dry Bones and ending up in Luigi's Mansion; great horror scene for a very PG movie
-Whatever the fuck was going on between Kamek and Bowser
-SHY GUYS SHY GUYS SHY GUYS SHY GUYS SHY GUYS-
-Mario and DK's frienenemy relationship was great, especially with how they butt heads but also understand (daddy issues) and respect each other (they're a good ship ngl)
-I liked Cranky Kong as a character, I feel like he was a character made to appeal more to an older crowd now that I think about it
-The implications? Of Bowser's entire fucking ship coming to the human realm? And totaling the city? Magic is real? What's gonna happen there is the U.S. government gonna try and harness the power of the magic realm and capitalize on it like there is so much left unanswered
-simp bowser lmao (many dudebros were mad about this one which automatically makes it the best plotline in my book)
-Mario and Peach weren't shown to have romantic feelings for each other, giving them time to actually get to know each other first
Criticisms
-Ok so let's address the main issue; the pacing. The movie severely lacked transition, bridging and buildup, and it felt less like a movie and more like a bunch of individual scenes thrown together (cause it kinda was). It was frustrating cause the movie was genuinely very engaging, and there was some real lost potential with how rushed it was. It definitely needed to be longer; I think the people working on it were on a time constraint, and it showed
-Pigging-backing off the previous note, a lack of build up to big moments made those moments feel like they came out of nowhere. it also lacked an after math period for those big moments, which makes them feel unsubstantial
-Ok rant time: I saw people having this concern for Peach being a dull #girlboss character that lacked substance, and... yeah, it happened. I think the issue of female characters being sidelined and not given any character depth is being acknowledged, but in a way that still doesn't give them depth. Basically, male creators have realized they've been making female characters useless love interests in the background, so they're fixing this by making said characters hyper-competent, and in the forefront of the fight. However, its had this adverse effect where these hyper-competent characters are now just serving as plot devices to push the narrative rather than being given their own character narrative. They are at the forefront, and fight, but are still lacking in depth and development (what's worse is they still just serve as aides to male leads most of the time, just now in a repackaged way that usually would be held by a side male character). The Mario movie was rushed so none of the characters got much development, but Peach in particular was not given any character development, only plot development (she got isekai'd and is wondering where she's from, but we don't see how this idea effects her emotionally or drives her because... it really doesn't. She's just kinda like "oh hey I'm from another universe... ok cool! Anyway-"). So yeah, that needs work. Male creators need to humanize their female characters like they do the male ones, and actually give them flaws and struggles (Peach literally has a gag about being so perfect she mastered the super hard parkour course they practice on in one go, while we see Mario work on it and improve over time; its lazy ass writing cmon now). Hence why I like consuming media that's actually by female creators, and I encourage all of you to do the same
-Mario and DK were great but again needed more fleshing out, they had this whole bonding moment about their daddy issue but it happened so fast that you couldn't really stew in it much
-Mario/DK's daddy issues were not handled the best, they only got their father's approval when they did something cool and not for actually being themselves; didn't like the messaging there very much
-Though I mentioned Mario x Peach didn't happen, the movie still very intrusively pushes the idea in your face by having side characters comment on it; I imagine this is what homophobes think they're experiencing when queer character exist in media, except this movie didn't even try to be subtle with the push
-Why did Toad just decide to help Mario find Luigi? Why did Peach decide to train Mario so she could take him with her to Donkey Kong Island? Just cause he's a fellow human? And why did she just decide to take Toad along too? Again, pacing
-Rainbow Road being a "secret path" that was literally out in the open and Bowser found it almost immediately lmao (it was also never narratively explained how Bowser found the path if I'm remembering correctly)
-The Luma gag was overdone imo, but the "finally, mercy" part was very funny
-no bowuigi sex scene -∞/10
Final Thoughts
Overall, the movie was very fun, but the time constraint really did bring it down from being a better ranked movie. Its frustrating because the movie had so much to offer, I wanted more from it, and that's why the pacing is something I'm hammering on so much. And for anyone saying "its a kid's movie, who cares?"... sorry I want kid's to have good movies? And not just the kind of drool that comes from Minions-type productions? Movies are art, and art should have the people behind it putting the best into their work that they can, kid's movie or not, so if something is bringing down that art (a time constraint for example) it should be criticized in my opinion. Plus lets face it, a lot of the people going in to see the movie were teens/adults who grew up on Mario.
Despite all this though, I genuinely enjoyed it, and my low expectations for what is an Illumination movie were pleasantly subverted. There was clearly a lot of love put into this film, and I can't wait to see if there will be a sequel. Thanks for reading!

Just curious, what were your favorite scenes, moments or jokes from the Mario Movie?
Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches~
Of course, outside of every Bowser moment-- because ya know, that's where my allegiances lie-- every brotherly moment between Mario and Luigi had be awwing. They could have easily went the route of 'tough brothers beating each other up, no homo girly softness'. But they DIDN'T! They let them show affection pretty much every moment they were on screen with each other. And I was just nodding my head, going 'yes, they understand the Mario Brothers'.
I also ended up enjoying Donkey Kong so freaken much in the movie. So everything in the Jungle Kingdom was fun. I also literally gasped when I saw the eel's eyes during the underwater level, smiling and going 'NO WAY!' Oh, and of course the heart to heart between DK and Mario being broken because of DK being stubborn aha. It was a nice bit of characterization, and I also love that they made sure Mario wasn't just as mean/prideful back at him in that moment.
I can't get over the characterization details, let me tell ya.
My favorite joke in the whole movie, though, was the Koopa being turned into a Dry Bones and just going 'eh' like it didn't matter. That had me losing it in the theater.

Ohhh I love your headcanons! You know what could be fun? A MarioxDK where Mario comes to JK as a kid and is raised among monkeys like tarzan 😋
Thanks for liking the headcanons!
AU where Baby Mario ends up in the Jungle Kingdom
The idea of Baby Mario crawling around in Brooklyn sewers and crawling through pipes is so funny to me
I assume he was left unsupervised and he just started wandering around and somehow ended up in a mysterious green pipe
He ends up being deposited in the Jungle Kingdom, and DK's family decides to take him in
They decide to raise him so that one day he can join the Kong army as a soldier
Mario is trained to be a warrior alongside Donkey Kong
Between sparring and battle training, DK and Mario become best friends
They are constantly hanging out and going on adventures
They become notorious for getting into trouble and doing really stupid things (it drives Cranky crazy)
The incident where they accidentally set all of the karts on fire trying to attach flamethrowers to them
Eventually, as they grow older, they start to transition from "you're my best friend" to "oh, I think I love you"
But neither of them really know how to deal with how they're starting to feel
So they both start subtly flirting with each other, just to see how it goes
It goes very well
But because they're both idiots, they don't realize how reciprocated the feelings are
Everyone can tell that they like each other, and they are so frustrated that they're not even dating
Eventually Cranky decides to have the most awkward/necessary conversation of his lifetime
Cranky: What are your intentions with my son?
Mario: Huh
Cranky: Don't play dumb, I know you both like each other, now what are you going to do about it?
Mario: I mean... I'd like to ask him out but...
Cranky: Then just do it already, I'm tired of watching you pine
Mario: ...Are you giving me permission to date your son?
Cranky: Unfortunately, yes
So Mario asks DK out, but he's super nervous about it
He kinda stumbles his way through it but luckily DK starts to understand and helps him
Mario: so... I was kinda wondering... because I... well... I like you a lot... but not just in a friend way... I mean... you're one of my best friends... but also...
DK: *hope in his eyes* ...Are you asking me out?
Mario: *nods furiously*
So they start dating, and when it comes time to fight Bowser, they do it as a couple

Okdokey, so I saw the Mario movie…
A lot of you already know my initial reaction. I loved it! Now it’s time to talk about some of my general thoughts about what I liked and what I didn’t
This will delve into spoiler territory, so be aware of that before you read on
Mario and Luigi’s relationship is a personal highlight for me. They love each other so much! The movie shows time and time again that they’re always there for each other and are stronger when they’re together. Also Mario does this thing where he calls Luigi “Lu” as a little nickname which is so cute and endearing. He literally will square up with people three times his size for Luigi’s sake, I adore that aspect of his character.
Peach slayed this movie. The small peek into her backstory was neat, i hope they might eventually explore that more. It finally offers an explanation why there’s a human ruling over the mushroom people.
Bowser was what threw me for a loop. Cause in the trailer he comes off as so threatening and menacing but in the movie he is a massive SIMP. He spends half the runtime swooning over Peach and getting jealous that Mario and her are growing close. He’s writing ballads dedicated to her and practicing proposing, he’s just a romantic sap. A maniacal one, but a sap. Jack Black killed it, as always. Bowser had me laughing during a lot of his scenes. He’s so menacing, but just wants to be loved. …I mean, if he’s still single, then maybe I could…? 👀
Now, some things I didn’t really like…
Man, with how the trailers were looking, I was like “whoa we’re finally getting a animated movie without a forced pop song!” But no. I swear, this movie has like five different moments where they have songs crammed in. Most of the time it doesn’t really fit for me and just takes me out of the movie for a moment. The only one I really liked was the “I need a hero” scene. They put Take On Me in here???
The pacing. It feels like everything happens way too fast and the characters don’t have time to have moments together. This movie is just on a roll once you get past the first 20 minutes. I personally like the third act the best, it has the best action and animation.
Again, because of the pacing, the characters don’t really develop. Every time I think we’re gonna get a emotional scene between characters, it quickly wraps up and is done with. Mario and Peach? That talk finishes quick. Bowser and Luigi? If you’ve seen the trailers then you’ve seen the entirety of that scene basically. Like it seemed like Mario and DK were having a moment at one point in the movie? But then it very quickly ends so they can move on to the next scene. It never really gets resolved?? It’s something I can look past I guess, but I can’t help but want more.
Luigi got sidelined hardcore. He needs to have more screen time if they continue making movies.
I kinda tuned out the fact Chris Pratt was Mario when I was watching this. He’s fine I guess??? But he’s clearly the weakest voice actor when compared to everyone else who’s giving it almost 100%. He’s giving it like… 70% if I’m being generous.
Overall, I’d say a solid 8/10, pretty fun but could’ve used some polishing on the plot and pacing

I'm pretty sure Movie!Knuckles would have mixed feelings towards Movie!DK. Yes, they're both powerful fighters who hold their fathers in high regard and have their legacy to uphold, but Knux might find it a bit dishonorable that DK kinda kicked Mario while he was down even after he saved his life, not unlike what Sonic did for him.
I think he would...in a sense. But we also have to remember that both pairs have different outlooks towards each other which later develops into rivalry/friendship.
For Sonic and Knuckles: Sonic was upset that the Echidnas had killed Longclaw, whereas Knuckles was both upset and angry that Longclaw killed his tribe. He had a legacy thrown on his shoulders, and he was also overcome with desire for revenge. He already had a grudge with Sonic before he even met him properly - but overtime his betrayal from Eggman swayed his outlook, which only became a full turn around after Sonic saved him. There, they finally put aside this bloodshed history shared between them.
With Mario and DK however, the two never even knew of each other prior to the events of the movie. Both DK and Mario are very high energy, determined, and with a fair amount of pride. So when those two similar personalities meet, of course they are going to clash!
Both DK and Mario also have a lot (if not similar) issues they are dealing with. Normally, this would be something for them to bond over, but because the two's similar personalities, getting on the same page isn't easy.
DK loves and respects all the Kongs and just wants to be a Prince that can laugh and joke around with them, but Cranky is more embarrassed than proud; same with Mario, who wants to make a name for himself and Luigi, but his own Dad's disappointment weighs down on him.
During the eel scene, they've reached a point where they are defeated and helpless. These two feel that they've failed themselves and their loved ones. It's only natural they would choose to aim that despair and anger at each other.
- - -
So in conclusion: I think Knuckles would understand DK's behaviour once he got the full story.

So on April 5th i went to the theater and watched The Super Marios Bros Movie and i think it's really good!
Better than what i expected if i'm honest specially it being an Illumination film my expectations where not that high but it prove me wrong!
Animation was amazing! All the elements of the world looked so lively and wonderful from the details, character designs and just everything looked superb.
The story is quite simple and not that Interesting which apparently has been a big critique from critics and audience but i don't mind it honestly i felt it was necessary in order to introduce new audience or peeps who are not familiar with the franchise how the world works and it's rules and to just showcase the many characters and lands of the franchise.
As for the the voice acting i can't really comment about it since I watched the movie in spanish so till the movie hits Home Video i can say if i liked Chris Pratt or not as for the Latin American Spanish Dub all the voice actors did a great job really did the characters justice.
Speaking of characters i loved how they portray them Mario and Luigi have very straightforward character arcs and development but i still think it was good, i like that they didnt flanderized their characters and their sibling dynamic was just so wholesome and amazing like we got protective big brother Mario, he had a nickname for Luigi and they where so caring and affectionate to each other i loved it a lot i'm a sucker for sibling dynamics and relationships ok!
Peach was great i just wish she was little bit more feminine like her video game counterpart just a minor nitpick, DK was good liked the frenemy relationship he gets with Mario and his development, Toad was very funny and not annoying as other comedic relief characters i really liked him and Bowser was just an awesome villain.
So before i get into the score they where some modern songs in the soundtrack which i think it was good not as egregious and annoying as other animated films, they where okay at worst, as for the score Mr. Brian Tyler your Oscar Campaign starts now! I want to marry this score it is amazing, emotional and so fun, the samples from Koji Kondo iconic soundtrack of the video games makes it 100x better and score does have enough original material that it doesnt feel like it copy and pasted Kondo's work it gives it a life of it's own and stand out in the franchise.
Overall a great and entertaining film for old fans and the newcomers, has many references and nods to the good, old and cringe of the video games it truly is a love letter to nintendo most famous franchise.
I give it 3.5 Superstars out of 5.

Gonna try to write out my thoughts on the Mario Movie. I'm at work as I'm writing the start of this and it's been a few hours since I've watched the film, but I'll try to remember what I can.
If you haven't seen my previous post and just want to know if you should see it or not, here's my opinion on that: If you're a Mario fan, absolutely go see it, but go in expecting a wild and fun love-letter to the games... and do not expect anything character-wise. Like, take any expectations you have for character moments and anything remotely emotional and turn it down to almost nothing. Also, stay for ALL of the credits.
(SPOILERS AHOY from this point onward!)
So, yeah, if you couldn't guess, I went into this with far too high expectations. Granted, I don't feel like they were all unreasonable ones...?
I just wanted to see the characters interacting. The humor was fun, the game references were fantastic, but whenever we did get a moment of characters just talking, it's breezed by as rapidly as possible to keep the plot moving. There's the tiniest of moments, but they never felt like enough.
Which isn't to say the characters are portrayed badly--they're not! They're fantastic! Rather than pulling the expected "these two siblings squabble and disagree and finally make amends in the end," Mario and Luigi are already great brothers to each other, and I liked that--it was refreshing! But I wanted to see more of their relationship, and... really, more of Luigi in general.
Peach was great, and she was GIVEN A BACKSTORY! I didn't expect that at all! It wasn't fully explained, but it's there! And it... doesn't really come up again. I mean, probably to set up for something in the inevitable sequel, but still! Also, she and Mario weren't swept up into an immediate romance! There's a brief moment when Mario is like "woah" when he first sees her, and throughout the film other characters like Donkey Kong and Bowser expect them to try to get together, but it doesn't happen! I liked that!
Bowser steals the show! DK, for as much as I hate Seth Rogan, was great, and his rivalry with Mario was fun!
BUT NONE OF THAT IS EXPLORED!!
They had so much to work with and they just... didn't.
Also, my fears were confirmed: Yoshi was entirely absent from the film. This was probably to focus on the other characters so they didn't have too many to juggle at a time, but... That one shot in the trailer? Where we see the herd of Yoshis? Yeah, that's it. That's the whole scene--that blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment.
Except for the end credits sequence.
If you stay until the very end, you're treated to a zoom-in on the wreckage of Bowser's Keep, and within the wreckage, a Yoshi egg starts to hatch. The screen goes black, and you hear Yoshi saying his name.
This implies a sequel, which means we'll obviously see him in the next film, but this doesn't help my anxieties much. I wondered before how Yoshi, should he appear in the film, would be handled. The last thing I wanted was for him to just be a glorified steed or pet, and we... still have no answer. In fact, we now have more questions (and for me, more anxieties)--was Yoshi trapped in that egg, as in Super Mario World, or is he a baby?? Will he actually talk? Will he be sentient and an actual character, or a glorified pet?? Goodness knows.
I know from all of this it sounds like I hated the movie, but I didn't. I had a good time watching it. (...Well, mostly--on a very personal note, oh gosh, okay, it's Illumination--I should have expected the pop music. It's fine. It's not a big deal. But I was not read for the inclusion of a certain song that immediately blasted me with negative emotions. That was not a fun experience, but at least it was short.) I cheered over seeing Mario and Luigi swinging Bowser by his tail, at hearing part of the DK Rap, at seeing Diddy Kong and Pauline and the many other background cameos. I adored the soundtrack and will be looking for a way to buy it ASAP (...if it's available, but knowing Nintendo...) There was a lot to like!
I'm just... flabbergasted at how little was done with the characters. I hate that I'm saying this, but in terms of character development, this is one of the most shallow movies I've ever seen that wasn't completely garbage quality. It would be one thing if the rest of the movie sucked, if it was an obvious cash grab, but it... wasn't. There was so much care put into the world and animation and music, in the references to the games, even obscure ones! So much love went into this, and I just can't understand what happened to the story.
Even if the plot were the same, they could have done so much more with these characters. Why didn't they?
I had this really terrible thought, and I could be entirely wrong, but... I'm remembering that the movie was delayed for four months, and also that Miyamoto was heavily involved in the making of the film. I'm wondering if like... maybe there was more character-focused moments, but he had them cut? The movie really did feel very weirdly cut, jumping from scene to scene rapidly with no room to breathe--I really wonder if there were more character moments there that Miyamoto demanded to be cut from the film due to whatever weird logic he goes by these days. This is the guy who's been ripping the plot from the Mario RPGs for the past... long while, because...??? Goodness knows at this point.
I dunno. I'm going to be seeing the movie in theaters again, though--maybe if I go into it knowing what to expect, I'll feel less bad about it.
Thanks for listening to my rambling, and if you've seen the movie, go ahead and respond to any of my thoughts here. I'm just trying to work this out in my head.

This is probably starting to get annoying, but here are a few more scattered, silly thoughts about the mario movie. :)
(Did I go see the movie again for the 4th time in theaters last night? YES. Is that an excessive amount of times? YES. Have I spent a ridiculous amount of money at this point? YES. Do I have any regrets? NOT EVEN THE TINIEST BIT, NO.)
Trust me, I would be totally honest if I was starting to get bored, but I'm really, really not??? I had a really tough, busy week and I just wanted to be able to relax and have a good time and it was delightful as always!!! I left feeling so much happier. I'm already thinking about going to see it next week again! No one and nothing can stop me!!!! Other than possibly my bank account, LOL.
Obviously the reunion hug takes the lion's share of the focus, but I just want to express my undying love that Luigi and Mario share MULTIPLE hugs before we even get there, and that's not even counting moments at the beginning and the end where they have an arm around each other in kind of a half-hug! They are wonderfully, unabashedly affectionate and it's the best thing in the world!!!
As much as the family is teasing Mario & Luigi about their commercial, I DO appreciate that after their dad's insensitive comment and Mario leaves the table, all the adults genuinely look a little taken aback and stare at the dad (except the grandpa who is in his own little world lol) as if to say Wow, Not Cool. Like, it seems like saying something like that would even be a step too far for the uncles! I just like that there's subtlety and layers to the family stuff, and no one is portrayed as being 100% a jerk (even if some of them have some jerk-ish qualities like the guy stealing food from poor Luigi XD)
ALSO: in fanworks, I've seen several people allude to the bedroom Mario's shown in as being only his bedroom - I was watching those scenes closely this time just to confirm to myself (because I'm annoying about being as accurate as possible, haha), and it's DEFINITELY both his and Luigi's room! It goes by quick, but you can see another bed with green sheets in the far corner of the room clearly in at least one shot, both in the Brooklyn version and in the Mushroom Kingdom version. For some reason, it just tickles me that it's SUCH a small little inclusion and not really necessary, they could have just left it ambiguous whether they actually share a room or not, but nope, that detail is there if you are looking for it! :)
Y'know, even when Mario is dragging Luigi into a dangerous situation and jumping down through what is essentially a WHIRLPOOL into the sewers, he STILL stands at the bottom and waits/watches to see that Luigi makes it down safely after him before moving forward. OVERALL A SILLY THING TO DO but, as he always does when it comes to Luigi, Mario has those extra moments of care and attention. :)
Peach going on and on about how small Mario is will always just make me smile, I'm sorry XD IT'S TRUE (and I love how he's just like "yeah, yeah, make fun of me if you want" and moves on to the important stuff without actually getting mad, it's clear he's heard it all before)
I JUST LOVE MARIO IN GENERAL. I LOVE HIM IN THIS MOVIE???? I LOVE HIM, ALL HIS LITTLE MOVEMENTS AND MANNERISMS. HE IS JUST THE SWEETEST, BRAVEST LITTLE MAN AND HE DESERVES MORE APPRECIATION
I might make a separate appreciation post but here is a shortlist of little things I love: his little "I don't want to eat this" wiggle-dance when first trying to eat the mushroom, the bashful way he kicks up his feet and holds his hands behind him when he's standing next to Peach in the Flower Fields, the way he just cutely, awkwardly WAVES HELLO at everyone wherever he goes (in Toad Town, through the crowd as they're leaving the castle, even to the Kong Guards), how he's genuinely excited to see Donkey Kong's kart for a split second before DK's "I hate you" comment, how he saves DK in the water with NO hesitation at the risk of his own life because he is just a deeply good person, etc etc etc.
As much as I deeply wish that this movie had an actual scene where Mario gets to talk more about Luigi to his new friends and the dialogue wasn't always operating at Maximum Efficiency, I DO appreciate that there are still those couple of beats where you are explicitly reminded that Mario is doing this, ALL of this, for Luigi's sake and only that. The one that got to me this time is when Peach and him have that sidebar before the DK fight where she's like "this is a REALLY bad idea" and his retort is: "well, do you have another way to save my brother!?" And then you see him go on a little face journey where he's calculating things before agreeing to the fight and proclaiming that yes, he WILL win. BECAUSE HE WILL DO ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING FOR HIS BROTHER AND IF THE ONLY WAY TO REACH HIM IS TO FIGHT AND WIN, EVEN IF NO ONE BELIEVES IN HIS ABILITY TO DO SO, THEN BY GOD, HE'S DOING IT. ANOTHER REASON THAT I LOVE HIM!!
The aesthetic of the shattered Rainbow Road pieces glowing in the ocean around DK and Mario (and then inside the eel) is genuinely very beautiful and I always love the effect of it!
I'M SORRY, I CAN ALSO BE VERY CRITICAL OF THIS MOVIE IF I WANT TO, BUT HOW COULD ANYONE - ANYONE - WATCH MARIO AND LUIGI WREAK ABSOLUTE HAVOC AND DESTROY BOWSER IN PERFECT, EFFORTLESS UNISON WITH THE SUPERSTARS MUSIC PLAYING AND NOT FEEL ABSOLUTE JOY??? That sequence is actually perfect, and the music is even MORE perfect. Every time, I hear it, I feel exhilarated and light as air and like anything is possible! HOW COULD YOU NOT THINK IT'S MAGICAL??? HOW??? [STANDS ON TOP OF A MOUNTAIN AND YELLS] HOW????????
Something that I have never noticed until this last rewatch and caught me genuinely offguard is that when Bowser's in the jar and Mario makes the "told ya I'd get you a turtle!" comment to Peach, if you're paying attention to Bowser, he actually does a "hardy-har-har VERY FUNNY" fake laugh as he's being all pouty, and I laughed outloud at that.
ALSO IN GENERAL, I AM SO PROUD OF THIS VERSION OF THE CHARACTERS AND THEIR WILLINGNESS TO PUT BOWSER IN ACTUAL JAIL!!!! HE DESERVES JAIL!!!! Like, I get that we're all very sweet and forgiving here and he's usually allowed to just slink away in most of the games, but seriously, HE COMMITTED VARIOUS WAR CRIMES FOR INCREDIBLY STUPID REASONS, THANK U FOR PUTTING HIM IN JAIL
The last scene with Luigi and Mario doing their handshake and then Luigi just full-on playfully poking Mario in the belly before running off is the CUTEST thing and also has the most Younger Sibling Energy of basically anything in the movie, lol. He also does it to him in the opening scene! I loveeeee ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
