I sort of imagine that Ponyboy is about 4 years younger than in canon, and he's a little clingy to his brothers. Especially Darry, though he is often found at Sodapop's side on darker or harder to handle days.

The gang would absolutely be more protective and worried about Ponyboy whenever he is by himself, and he's obviously not in highschool he's more late elementary school / early middle school.

Johnny is more 'big brother' to Ponyboy than canon (it's more emphasized), and he lets Ponyboy talk about all these books and movies, and the sunsets even more than in canon (Ponyboy still gets jumped, and Johnny freaks the fuck out a little bit more).

He's a little more childish, he lashes out a bit more when things don't make sense, and he absolutely doens't like Steve but more of a "why do you keep taking my brother from me" dislike rather than a genuine beefing with the other that Ponyboy hints at in canon. Steve also cannot bring himself to dislike that Ponyboy is so clingy with Sodapop, because he knows about Ponyboy's nightmares.

Which! Ponyboy's nightmares are a worse than canon. He'll have nights he wakes up screaming, and nights that he wakes up and just... stares. He'll space out and he will absolutely not respond no matter what is happening around him, but he is sitting up and breathing, and it's obvious he can hear you, he's just not responding. It's also obvious whenever he's had a night of nightmares (anywhere between 1 to 3 a night), because he'll be really quiet and sleepy the day after. (He also clings to Darry more, and he genuinely cries whenever Sodapop has to go to work.

Dally isn't as 'cold' or 'mean' to Ponyboy, but he still intimidates Ponyboy with out he interacts with others. Ponyboy gets more Johnny treatment than in canon! That's how I think about it, where Ponyboy could say just about anything and Dally wouldn't care, and Dally gets Ponyboy little things that he thinks Pony will like!

Two-Bit likes to watch Ponyboy on days where he decides to skip (Darry doens't like it but he also does because it means Ponyboy isn't home alone on days he's out of school or sick), and they like to play a whole bunch of games and they go out and 'cause mischief' (they go to the park and have fun and they go and buy art supplies because Pony still adores art, and they like to go hiking, which Darry doesn't know about the hiking).

i absolutely adore the way you color and shade. your drawings honestly feel like a drawing in a sketchbook where ur like "hm maybe i should add markers/colored pencil to this" AND THEN THE DRAWING TURNS OUT LOOKING MAJESTIC. the way you draw is so round, which 1) makes your drawings look SO CUTE and 2) makes it feel like your drawings would squeak like those dog toys (which is good!! your art evokes positive emotions!!!!)

OKAY SO I FINISHED THE GOLDFINCH (spoilers btw) AND I HAD TO REST A BIT BEFORE I RAMBLED BUT OMG I LOVED IT SO MUCH.

First of all, his mom. Loved her, mourned her. When she was in the museum and she was like “it’s crazy but I think I could spend the rest of my life staring at the same 5 paintings, I can’t think of a better way to go insane.” That’s not an exact quote but like SO TRUE.

Then Welty in the museum and Pippa and omg like him just casually being like my mom loved this painting and this guy wants me to take it? Hell yeah I’ll do it. But also, yeah I’d do it too.

Him staying at Andy’s? HIS DAD SHOWING UP??? Oh my lord when he met Hobie and started learning about antiques, I love them and also that later Boris calls him Potter and Hobie’s name is James? I was like, yeah that’s his real dad. But the fact that his dad showed up with Xandra and he’d been cheating on Theo’s mom? Outrageous.

Then BORIS. Do those two have severe issues? Yeah. Did I love their relationship with all of my heart? Also yeah. Like when Theo is leaving to go back to NY and they KISS and then they like both know that he isn’t saying the thing he really wants to say which is I love you? WHAT?!?! SO GOOD. Like I love Boris and Theo’s relationship and then how Pippa sort of plays into it. I mean like especially when Boris shows up in NY later and Theo just immediately trusts him. Like he does basically everything Boris asks of him without question. It’s adorable. Honestly I feel like Pippa was more of a left over of his mother and his love for her was obv not normal (hopefully that’s a generally accepted opinion).

But yeah then him almost marrying Kitsey? Also him charging so much extra on antiques? I’m not gonna lie I’d do the same thing. But then Amsterdam???? MURDER??? BORIS STOLE THE PAINTING?????

Omg and then the end. The last few pages made me cry and then I sat down and wrote a draft of my college application essay about the lines “we can’t choose our hearts. We don’t get to choose the people we are.” I’m not even kidding. Also I’m pretty sure you said that AHB was inspired a bit by this book and I could tell when reading The Goldfinch, in a good way obviously. I’m not even joking I feel like you’re writing reminds me of Donna Tartts. Anyway I’m never going to stop thinking about this book <3 I love you for recommending it

At home he will oftentimes be standing and looking at your work carefully, on the inside he is singing your praises of your creativeness. Giyu doesn’t strike me a the type of man to have rhythm, NOT saying he doesn’t but all I’m saying is that I’ve never seen him cut a rug. The point I’m trying to make is that when giyu hears you play he wouldn’t jump up and start dancing, instead he would listen very carefully and patiently. He enjoys your music more than you’ll ever probably know, but he does show his appreciation. After you get done playing he will kiss your forehead, later that evening he’d hum the tune you were playing. Taps his foot every know and again while you are playing. Most of all though, I think Giyuu would admire you to the fullest extent. You are dedicated, talented, caring, loving, you are the things Giyuu wants to become. He looks up to in every way. To him you are North Star guiding him through the vast open sea.

Okay, so my name is Sam (she/her, bi), and I have literally heard every nickname variation lol. I am 5’4” (1.64m), comfortably curvy, and pale. I have long brown hair that cannot decide whether it’s straight or curly and never looks good lol, bright green eyes, and naturally blushing cheeks and pink lips. The laugh bubbled up through your throat before you could stop it, the sight of your boyfriend posing dramatically next to the painting, acting as if he were in it. The sound of your giggles gracing his ears made him laugh along, faltering in his pose slightly as the chuckles coursed through his body. Pulling him along to the exit, Wrecker was confused, “Baby, we’ve only been here a minute, an’ you already wanna leave?” You winked at him behind your shoulder, “I wanna go have some fun at home.” Wrecker’s eyes widened in surprise, before quickly darkening, knowing what you were alluding to. “Hmm. The art turn you on?” Wrecker beamed once again at the fact that he was the cause of your sweet laughter, the sound music to his ears. After your chuckles died down, you stopped in your tracks to face him, you hands finding their home on his wide chest. “If you wanna call yourself that.”

imagine dazai catching you doodling him with cute little hearts around the page,, and as his lips curved upwards a mild shade of pink dusts his cheeks, admiring you a little bit more before walking towards you quietly, wrapping his arms around your neck from behind. your frame stilled against his loving embrace, the pencil in your hand dropping on the concrete desk, your lover's lips close to your ears... his warm breath hit the back of your ear, kissing it in the process.

"I didn't know you drew me so much, gioia mia~¹" his sweet, teasing voice gently made its way into your eardrum, with you shivering afterward. his soft, umber locks brushed against your tender skin, the warm temperature his body radiated comforting you. your cheeks were probably red by now, and you were certain he already noticed. after all, when does he not?

clearing your throat, you comfortably positioned yourself, closing your eyelids slowly before speaking.

"u-uh, yeah. I, uhm-"

"and they're so well done, my darling! I assumed you were an artist since you always brought a notebook and pencil with you, even in our workplace, but I didn't expect you to draw me... I am flattered, my belladonna~ your artstyle mirrors the way you are... cute!~" your brain couldn't take in his words, and yours were stuck in your throat. all that was left was a stuttering mess whilst you shakingly turned around, with your lover chuckling at your adorable reaction.

dazai could now definitely see how your cheeks gained color, the redness painting them well. noticing your alerted gaze and trembling, he raised his hand to hold your warm cheek, caressing it with his thumb. although your quivering didn't cease, he took a note of how your eyes widened for a second before calming again. his smile broadened as you leaned into his touch, your timid orbs avoiding his loving ones. unfortunately for you, he had other ideas in mind.

and so, he leaned closer.

your eyes snapped back at him, his nose almost touching yours. a small gasp escaped you as you attempted to form a sentence, but failed to do so. the man in front of you only beamed at your reaction, his heart melting at how adorable and lovely you were. he was truly fortunate to have a loving, caring, understanding partner such as you.

he really loved you and cherished you with all of his soul.

"osamu! y-you're-" and before you could say anything else, the brunette gave you one last loving look before closing his eyes...

and placed his lips against yours.

your eyes bulged out from your sockets as a small shriek left your throat, but was immediately muted by your beloved's kiss. your flustered state couldn't comprehend what was happening, but the warmth of your chest was so overwhelming, you couldn't help but hastily press your lips back against his, tightly closing your eyelids to enjoy the moment more...

smirking, dazai stopped for a brief moment while you whined in protest, but he quickly soothed you while shifting his hands to grip your chair, gently twisting it around. you opened your eyes again to understand what he was doing... and regretted it as soon as you saw his smug look, while he caged you between him and your chair. you glanced around stunned, the dulcet shade of rosé overlapping your already flustered profile. shakingly, you looked up and met his calmer and haughty orbs again, making you gulp as your heart rammed in your chest.

his smooth, defined face was all you could see, and if it wasn't for your panicking mind, you were sure you could observe him for hours. you felt so open under his narrow, shadowy, russet orbs as if you were an interesting book he was very invested in. that fierce, intense way he observed you with, only made you shyer, and you shrank on your chair... which wasn't the best move, you thought, since he cornered you more than before, and all you could do was watch him from below, too red to do or say anything.

his low chuckle reverberated through the room, and a small drop of sweat rushed down your embarrassed face as he towered over you, devouring all of your sweet, lovable expressions. his smirk widened as your pupils shrank, bending down to your level once more. he tremendously wanted to pick you up and place you on the king-sized bed, while you desperately clung onto him and whispered his name, trying to evade his all-seeing gaze... but held himself back to tease you more.

after all, you looked so delicious right now...

"o-osamu..." your needy, wobbly voice brought him back from his little daydream, shaking off any other thoughts he had in mind... all that mattered now was you. humming, he got closer to you, both of your faces millimeters away. if he was trying to kill you, he was doing a great job at it. the smile never left his mouth, and you could feel the confidence seeping through him... his breath hit your lips as he exhaled making you freeze on the spot.

"hmmm? what is it, my dear? do you perhaps need something?" he asked, already knowing what you wanted and needed. but hearing you spell it out for him... it was a bliss.

you nervously exhaled, feeling the warmth in your cheeks rise as if you weren't blushing enough. not brave at all to face him head-on, you fiddled with the hem of your shirt, looking down as you did so. dazai screamed internally at the cuteness with all the courage you had, you shyly told him...

"p-please osamu, i-i need you..." and that was all he needed. chuckling, he stared at you with a wolfish grin, pleased to hear those words coming out of your lips.

"then... let me take care of you, amore mio~²"

your sketchbook was long forgotten that night, but dazai did make you "sing" some sweet songs for him...

first of all, my vacation is going well! i enjoyed going out and riding some rides, plus took a nice shower and now i am relaxing in my bed, hehe.

second, it's truly a bliss to see my own artwork improve over time! it makes me extremely happy. also, i love the idea of dazai eating a burger, that's adorable. i have been wanting to doodle dazai a lot lately; probably cause he's just so adorable to me and he's absolutely breathtaking, hehe. it's nice to fill up the empty pages and just letting your mind flow as you draw.

George Weasley — 5th December; this precious one is my absolute lovechild, if it wasn't for obliviate, this would've been number one. it's because in this one; it has my original poem that I genuinely wrote for George himself JKDHSKDJS sappy i know but it means so much to me when you guys love the story and the poem so dearly, it makes me feel very appreciated 🥺❤️ yknow because of you guys I had to courage to share my poems and songs to my parents (they were indeed very proud a bitch almost cried that night)

Fred Weasley — Helplessly Part 2; okay so now helplessly is a series I've been working on, and my absolute favorite chapter is chapter 2. Because there are so many strong feelings in this chapter I literally had to stop writing it a couple of times to compose myself, and reading them back I was quite overwhelmed like woah i wrote t h a t?

George Weasley — Shower Buddy; this one right here, tHIS BRAT OF MINE, this is the first one that blew up like crazy i was gobbersmacked, really. This blew up so fast just two days ago it reached its first 1000 notes! Can you believe that? A bloody thousand notes! Because of this fic, a lot of big writers reblogged it and share it in their blog, thus giving me a hella lot of exposure and suddenly my followers increased and my other works got comments and reblogs HDJSHFH i told you george supremacy is real ;)

My favorite ships from kdramas - appreciation post (part 2)

I have no idea if you've been waiting for that but I described the last list as part one, so I guess I should make another one. So today is The day. BTS plays in the background, list is ready, I have exam in two days but who cares, let's go!

1. What’s wrong with secretary Kim? - Kim Mi So & Lee Young-Joon

Let’s be honest. We have Park Min-Young and Park Seo-Joon. It had to work. They had to had crazy-like chemistry, it was meant to be. Whenever there was a kiss I’ve been worried my computer will set himself on fire bc all this hotness. Iconic comedy, iconic character of Park Seo-Joon, iconic romance. Also can we all agree that Park Min-Young have like the best luck when it comes to screen partners? Shit, girl. You must have saved thousands of people’s lives in your past life.

2. While you were sleeping - Nam Hoong-Joo & Jung Jae-Chan

Second Male Lead Syndrome hit hard with this one. But still not hard enough to stop me from gushing over the Nam Hoong-Joo and Jung Jae-Chan cuteness. I mean, c’mon. Suzy is motherfucker queen and Lee Jong-Suk is so pretty it makes my eyes hurt. Plus I adore that they were just so idk normal? Not perfect like most of the kdrama’s couples. She has growing hair leg, and he can be gross sometimes. SO WHAT?! Welcome to the real world. They loved each other anyway.  

3. Innocent man/Nice Guy - Seo Eun-Gi & Kang Ma-Roo

Man, between all this fluffy couples this one is kinda dark. But that's exactly what I loved about them. She was a bitch, especially at the beginning. He was a the dickest dick in the whole Dickland, Mayor of Dickville. Two sinners, bad, broken and selfish. Raw. Different. Flawed. They were hurting, they've been hurt. The ending of the drama was meh for me but this couple stands strong. And you know that Song Joong-Ki is the only one for me. He just makes me so happy whenever he's on the screen.

4. Touch your heart - Oh Jin-Shim & Kwon Jung-Rok

They proved love exists in Goblin and now they did it again. Firstly: Oh Jin-Shim is one of my favorite female characters ever. She's just so cheerful and inspirational. I watched this drama when my life was kinda shit, but after watching her journey back to the top I felt great, like I could do anything. Secondly: Kwon Jung-Rok is the cutest idiot ever. He's so charming with this awkwardness of his. And together they create this cute, healthy kind of relationship I stan so much. LOVE THEM.

5. Her private life - Sung Deok-Mi & Ryan Gold

So like I said before I'm pretty sure that Park Min-Young could create great chemistry even with a plain chair. But holy shit, in Her Private life we're getting whole Mendeleev's table. The story is pretty simple, there's no incredible groundbreaking plot, but Kim Jae-Wook is so hot and works so amazing with Park Min-Young that I didn't even care for the plot. I just wanted to look at him as long as I could. Also, Ryan Gold is perfect boyfriend. I want him for next Christmas.

6. Angel's last mission: love - Lee Yeon-Seo & Dan

Omg, I shed so many tears on this one. Being completely honest I wasn’t huge fan of Lee Yeon-Seo at the beginning, she was really annoying for me. But Dan, my baby L, was such a cutie I decided to watch it despite of female character and boy, I am so happy I did that. It was truly touching, sad but beautiful story. And mains are just two puppies, so in love with each other, that you have this sudden desire to leave kdrama’s world, go outside, meet someone and being as cute as Yeon-Seo and Dan. Fortunately, this desire passes very quickly. I have another episode to watch, you know?

7. Cheer up! Sassy go go - Kang Yeon-Doo & Kim Yeol

I know most of you have a very strong Second Man Lead Syndrome when it comes to Sassy Go Go. And let me just tell you: I would die for Seo Ha-Joon. Ji Soo is one of my favs and he did such a breathtaking job in this drama. When I started watching it, I've actually been thinking I would be suffering, bc after watching few videos on YouTube I knew that SMLS is strong with this one. I wanted to ship him with Kang Yeon-Doo. And partly I do, I am. BUT DAMN. KIM YEOL. Like I said, I was prepared for loving Seo Ha-Joon. I was rooting for him even before watching. But then that one scene happened and that was it. I was done. You know which one I'm talking about. "One, you move away first. Two, I move away first. Three, since we're in this position anyway, we do it". It made my heart beat faster and since that moment I was sold. 

Btw that plot line with parents was totally unnecessary. Why, writers? Why?

8. Because this is my first life - Joon Ji-Ho & Nam Se-Hee

This drama is so important for me, you have no idea. I just felt it to the core of my being. And no, I didn't married my hot landlord although i'm not opposed that idea but it's just freaking incredible story about growing up, learning how to do this whole adult-shit, being your own person, being someone's person and finally about finding yourself. GOD, IT WAS SO GOOD. And main couple! UGH. My babies! I know I named Kwon Jung-Rok from Touch Your Heart the cutest idiot ever but in that moment I guess I had to forget about Nam Se-Hee, bc he wins that category. But he was also understanding and respectful and patient and just...kind. Just simply kind but somehow that is everything. Plus I love Kitty. It's the prettiest cat ever.

9. Extraordinary you - Eun Dan-Oh & Haru

The latest drama I watched and holy guacamole, I loved it so much. And even though I love Baek Kyung with my whole heart I don't even know why because he's an asshole, I just have to admit that Haru and Eun Dan Oh are freaking perfect for each other. THE WAY HE RESPECTED HER. Damn, that's some valuable shit right here. Watch and learn, boys. WATCH. AND. LEARN.

10. Encounter/boyfriend - Cha Soo-Hyun & Kim Jin-Hyuk

The last but not least. Actually, it’s my fav couple on this list. Noone is able to dethrone Kang Mo-yeon & Yoo Shi-jin from DOTS from being my fav ultimate, but damn I must say Soo-Hyun and Jin-Hyuk were really close to do that. I fell in love with them since the first scene and now, long after watching it, I still think about them everyday. I’m not even joking. Where you can find a man who’ll take cute photos of you and dance salsa with you on Cuba? With whom You could talk about poetry and art? And who will be as cute as Park Bo-Gum? Any ideas? I’m not asking for friend, I’m asking for myself.

So here we are: 5 times Jaskier almost made Geralt blush and the one time he actually did ^_^

Geralt was not particularly prone to blushing. He was no sweet, innocent young maid, was in fact about as far from that as you could possibly get. And yet there was just something about Jaskier that seemed to have him perpetually on the edge of a blush. Perhaps it was the bard’s honestly and earnestness. Perhaps it was how genuine he was. Geralt wasn’t sure. All he knew was that the bard got responses out of him that no one else could.

The first time was shortly after they had begun travelling together (or if you asked Geralt shortly after the annoying bard had decided to follow him around). Jaskier had still been asleep in his bedroll and Geralt had been shaking him awake. The bard had blinked bleary blue up eyes up at him, bleary blue-eyes that had lit up when they landed on his face. Geralt had gruffly told him to get his lazy ass up already and wandered away to busy himself with Roach, unsure how to deal with someone being genuinly happy to wake to the sight of him. Jaskier had of course just laughed and teased him about being a grump in the mornings.

The second time Jaskier had clearly had a bit too much to drink. The bard was stumbling over his words, his feet, and even thin air. Geralt would like to say he found it uterly annoying, but saddly he actually thought it was kind of cute. The bard seemed perplexed as to why he couldn’t manage to stay on his feet, as evidenced by the betrayed galnces he kept shooting at his feet. It was only a matter of time before he took a true tumble, thankfully Geralt had predicted that and was there to catch him when he did. It took a moment for the bard to realize what had happened but when he did his face absolutely lit up.

“Geralt, my saviour, my white knight!” He exclaimed, giggling. His smile was bright as sunshine from where he beamed up at the witcher, throwing his arms around Geralt’s neck and nuzzling into his chest. Geralt just sighed in pretend annoyance and carried his bard up the stairs to bed for the night.

The third time was when Geralt realized he was far too attached. He was once again scolding Jaskier for running into danger and for following him around in the search of it in the first place, demanding for the hundreth time why the bard insisted on following him around?!?!! He was not prepared for the idiot’s response.

“Because you’re my friend of course! Can’t let you face these things alone” the bard had replied. What got Geralt was the sincerity in Jaskier’s voice, the tone that said he absolutely meant what he said. Thankfully Geralt was still rather annoyed from his earlier fear for his bard (friend) and so was able to concentrate on that instead of the things the man’s words made him feel.

The fourth time Geralt found himself almost blushing around his bard he’d been covered in monster guts. It was one of the rare times that the two were staying at an inn instead of sleeping under the stars and Jaskier had demanded he bathe. Because Geralt didn’t actually love being covered in drying gore he’d aggreed with only minimal grumbling. Once the bath was brought up he submerged himself with no care for his modesty in front of the bard. When he resurfaced, notably cleaner he got a look at Jaskier’s face. The bard was looking at him in awe, the sort of expression men wore in front of beautiful woman or amazing works of art. Uncomftable with the scruteny he coughed and suggested that if the bard was just going to stand around he could help him with his hair, a suggestion Jaskier lept on with abandon.

The fifth time Jaskier almost made him blush was a clear day in late spring. They were taking a break from their travels in a nice grassy field covered in flowers. Roach was grazing happily and Geralt was leaning against a tree, content to doze in the sun. Jaskier was sitting a small ways off humming to himself and fiddling with something Geralt couldn’t quite see. Eventually the bard left what he was doing and wandered over to Geralt instead. The witcher was about to ask if something was wrong before he felt something settle on his head. Opening his eyes he glared up at his beautiful grinning bard.

“The flowers quite suite you you know, they’re almost as pretty as you are” Jaskier told him cheerfully as he settled himself beside the witcher. Geralt rolled his eyes but left the flower crown alone making the bard beam at him as though he had been given the greatest gift, adoration clear on his face for anyone to read.

“You would know better than I would I suppose, buttercup” he teased with a huff which was more fake than not, making Jaskier laugh delightedly.

When Geralt finally lost his battle against his blushes was the first time he and Jaskier slept together. After the mountain, after Yenn and finding Ciri and seeking out his bard to appologize and bring him back to his side where he belonged. After finally confessing his feelings in a cold tower in Kaer Morhen the two had fallen together. It was slow and sweet here where they were safe and could take their time. Geralt had finished undressing and had turned around to see Jaskier giving him that same look he had the first time he’d bathed in front of him. It was a look that made Geralt feel both giant and small and unsure and he found himself frozen, only able to swallow nervously, awaiting judgement almost. Jaskier must have been able to read some of that in his eyes because the bard smiled softly at him and approached, cupping his face with one hand.

“Gods Geralt, I always forget how gorgeous you are. It’s truly unfair, no one could ever hope to live up to your beauty. The gods themselves would bow before it for the chance to worship you” Jaskier whispered, reverent. And Geralt couldn’t help it. He’d had lovers in the past but never had anyone looked at him like that, told him such things with such honesty. Never had he felt for anyone the sort of things he felt for his bard. He could feel his face warm slightly and knew that a blush was spreading accross it. Jaskier noticed it as well, his eyes drawn to it magnetically. Before the bard could say anything Geralt bent down and pressed his lips to the other man’s, softly but surely, trying to convey all that he didn’t have words for, and any care he had for his blush was quickly tossed aside as Jaskier kissed him back.

there is a random man in steve’s kitchen (is it the helicopter guy? i... don’t know him well enough to be sure but i am genuinely unsure who else it would be) wearing a “seals do it better” apron while he’s cooking and talking to junior about how this recipe helped him “seal the deal” with the love of his life. okay, random man. you’re not acknowledging it, but you just made a seal pun, so you have my attention.

btw, for a good long moment i genuinely thought this guy might be danny in some kind of weird dream sequence future. i mean, old danny in steve’s kitchen wearing a seal-themed apron and making waffles? i wouldn’t hate it.

junior about how it’s going with tani: “it’s amazing.” okay a) YAY and THAT IS VERY CUTE and b) even so, it’s hilarious to me when random guy says “sounds like you’ve got it bad” just based on junior saying that it’s amazing while he kind of smiles vaguely. cute as it was, it wasn’t a passionate love declaration.

junior lies in bed awake at night dreaming of his thing with tani working out (and not sleeping because he’s scared it might not) and i just !! he’s a smitten mess over her and i adore it, even though his level of anxiety sounds like it’s a little detrimental for his sleep, omg.

fjdkfd we get a scene of adam and quinn who went surfing together and OF COURSE they’re standing under the beach showers as they talk because i feel like adam is literally contractually obligated to have a certain number of shower scenes each season.

tani!! gave quinn!! some surfing pointers!! let’s review: we know that tani is really great at surfing and definitely better than junior, because we had a scene once of them getting back from a surfing trip and junior was slightly pouty over it and tani was absolutely unwilling to downplay her own skill and it was Very Good, and now, in these last few episodes, tani was first present during noelani’s surfing lessons and now she’s apparently been giving quinn advice, and the idea of the h50 women hanging out? the idea of tani being supportive and sharing her knowledge? it’s all so good, ahhh. (ALSO. my mighty need for tani and kono to meet grows with each and every mention of tani’s surfing skill.)

oh my gOD i wrote that bit in brackets and hit play on the episode and IMMEDIATELY adam says that he’s used to being second best in the ocean because “my ex wife was a pro surfer, and very competitive.” YES. GOOD. LOVE THE KONO REFERENCE.

quinn gets a dramatic call from an olivia! i read an episode description, so i know that’s her ex-step daughter. i’m a little hesitant about this “btw quinn has an ex-husband” subplot, but also curious to see where they’re going with it, and quinn jumping to help out a teen girl that she still has a strong bond with is an angle of approach that could potentially be very very relevant to my interests.

cows! “moooo” say the cows, quietly, under the music. they’re not important or plot-relevant, i just like cows.

fjdkfd olivia has a Bad Dad and yes, i do want quinn to adopt her now. it could be good! she could swap tips with steve about how to let your adopted teen know they’re loved and safe and worth so much more than what their parents gave them.

tani to junior: “what, you think i didn’t have a life before i met you?” junior’s eyes: [shoot up to steve, standing right behind tani, who is junior’s mentor AND boss, making it slightly awkward to have a relationship talk right in front of him during work hours] POOR BOY (but also, yes, tani, tell him).

junior is now obsessed with the mystery of why tani is so familiar with a random rancher bar an hour away from her house, and to be honest, so am i.

tani wON A LINE DANCING COMPETITION FOUR WEEKS IN A ROW. that is the BEST solution to the mystery, my gosh.

tani: [brags about her line dancing skills and calls herself the queen] junior: “who are you?” fdjkfdjkfd junior, i don’t even know why you’re suprised that a) tani slays at something she did or b) she is utterly unapologetic about that fact.

olivia says that maybe quinn could come watch her play volleybal some time and quinn says that she’d love to but it’s complicated and don’t do that, quinn! my heart hurts now!

OKAY so olivia isn’t doing cheer this year even though she was captain the previous year and she makes up an excuse about it being because of the other girls but it’s actually about HER DAD taking the money that quinn gave her for a UNIFORM which means she probably couldn’t even try out and I HATE THIS. find your ex and kick his ass, quinn.

lou, after talking about macadamia farming: “but here’s where the story gets a littllllle... nutty.” tani, fistpumping: “nice one.” punner solidarity!! good stuff, good stuff. (though i do wonder what happened to danny’s punning streak in later seasons. anyone remember 1.14, when he joked about the head in a box? he’s lost his appreciation for this fine art and it’s a tragedy, honestly.)

quinn has enlisted adam’s help in tracking her ex (jake) down and she’s telling adam a little about how she never thought she’d fall for a guy like him but he was charming, and then she says “and olivia” and THAT’S when she really smiles, and look, PLEASE don’t let this episode end with olivia still living with her dad because will have to write fix-it fic.

quinn: “i haven’t told anybody i was married, not even steve.” that’s cool, but like, do we believe that means steve doesn’t know? if his background checks haven’t gone completely downhill in the last few years, i would assume he’s figured this out, right? (i love quinn’s “in case you haven’t noticed, i’m not really a sharer” that she adds, because it fits with her personality and it’s just nice to have a female character that’s allowed to be a little secretive about her past in a way that doesn’t feel, idk, sensationalized.)

i have seen a lot of gifs of this episode by now and they’re all of steve and danny and the horses so i’ve seen most of their very polite discussion that ensues when danny calls steve out on not asking him if he wants to ride along, but it’s still utterly glorious. grace gets mentioned, too! and the way danny ends it with “why don’t you try to keep up?” as he passes in front of steve, with steve watching him go? that is flirting. blatant flirting in front of all of their poor teammates. (at least now junior can feel a little less awkward about bringing his relationship with him on the job!)

fjdkfdjk lou’s “all this and they still go time to argue, isn’t that nice?” is A+

steve and danny, as they’re super leisurely chasing some criminals through the woods on horseback: yes, this would be a good time to make up an argument about absolutely nothing at all.

oh gosh, okay, danny says “you know i can uh, i can hear you at night” and steve’s response is “why don’t you get some earplugs?” and um. uh. it’s followed by context, i know, but come on, jfc.

“when i moved in a couple months ago” he’s just GOING for it now, omg. not “came to stay with you”, no attempt at hiding that he’s been staying with steve for literal months at this point - just. when i moved in. a couple months ago.

(i am obviously also very aware of what danny is saying about steve not sleeping and how that’s a new thing because it wasn’t like that a few months ago and steve’s evasiness about it and i am VERY WORRIED ABOUT THAT but i’m also electing to somewhat ignore it because. my god. screw that. we don’t want any of where that seems to be headed in this house.)

“i appreciate it. thank you.” this is growth and it’s good and it’s steve realizing that maybe just his quippy putdown isn’t enough of a response to danny’s genuine offer of support! (and again, we’re not thinking about reasons why he might want to think twice about how he treats danny so danny will know he’s appreciated, because there is no reason for steve to be worried about that, because nothing is going to happen.)

steve: “cuff him, danno.” DANNO. danno has returned from war!!

fjdkfd and then steve says it again in like, the next sentence he says. really cramming in those danno’s suddenly.

oh noooooo. quinn tells adam that jake could be a very good dad (which is valid! addiction is a disease and it’s good to know he wasn’t always like this to olivia, even if i don’t think it excuses what’s happening now), but then she says that jake was all the things she always wished her own dad could be and that maybe that’s why she was so drawn to him, and. okay. did not need that. h50 has a tendency to make women compare their love interests to their dads that makes me very uncomfortable. (the other big one that springs to mind is when abby and chin are courting and chin opens a car door for abby and she says something about how she always admired chivalry in her dad and she thought that died out with his generation and it’s this weird thing where she seems to be flirting by going “wink wonk you make me think of my dad” and oh my god. let’s just say it’s very much not my thing.)

steve and danny end up holed up in a cabin while seven people shoot at them and ahhh, just like old times. also just like last episode, to be honest, with the whole cabin filled with poison thing, but at least there’s no poison this time! that’s a plus!

steve’s improv involves LASSO’ING a guy i’m screaming

dude gets the drop on steve, they have an epic fight, steve HITS HIS HEAD and the dude picks up a GIANT LOG to hulksmash on steve’s head, presumably, and then danny swoops in to the rescue and!!! that’s also very much like old times!!! especially with this forest green color scheme and steve lying on the floor a little dazed it really reminds me of that episode with the girlscout troop in season 3.

(so. in this possible universe we’re not talking about where steve might be sick again and could be pacing at night because he knows or fears he’s going to die (you know the one) do you think that maybe part of why his first words to danny are “why’d you leave the cabin? that wasn’t the plan” is that he was kind of... hoping the other guy would get to finish him off? do you ever think about how steve mcgarrett, man of action, would almost definitely rather go out in a blaze of glory after taking out six guys all on his own with danny having his back, than after watching his own body slowly betray him and give out on him after losing a painful and drawn-out fight with itself?)

confused, frowny steve who almost definitely has a concussion and is also still very bloody is oddly cute, gosh. also, nincompoop! definitely one of danny’s most wonderful insults yet.

quinn gets her ex arrested and yells at him and tells him that if he doesn’t clean up his act, he’ll lose custody of his daughter, and then she drives away and she’s sobbing and trying not to and just !!!!! this was definitely the good kind of “quinn has an ex-husband” storyline, but also very painful.

the sunset scene! seen this in gifset too, but hoooo boy, it hits very differently with actual sound. (i may also have described the scene to my sister and mentioned the “probably ‘cause i figured i’d see a million more” and her immediate response was “oooh, he’s dead” and yES, that’s what i was TELLING YOU i’m worried about and also what i’m not thinking about so let’s just pretend i’m not typing these words right now.)

fdjkfdjkfd i’m sure that steve turning to danny just as he says “those are the things that you’re gonna miss the most in the end, you know” after mentioning things you see every day is just. a total coincidence. yeah. he’s totally just turning away from this sunset he was so entranced by a moment ago to look at danny’s face because he wants to stretch his neck. uh huh.

there’s banter about squirrels and it’s good and then steve says “admit it danny, you’re gonna miss this when it’s done” and that sounds very meta, omg, but it gets better when danny says “yeah, maybe, but i would never say it out loud” because that is literally a way to say it, out loud.

a very good episode!! i loved meeting olivia and learning about quinn’s background and there was some prime tani content and to top it off a lot of mcdanno in the second half, and if we just completely ignore that this episode also made my anxiety about the series finale skyrocket (which i knew it would, based on what i’d gathered of other people’s response to it, but that still didn’t accurately prepare me) it was wonderful and i liked it a lot!

The NineSpot: Anime I Really Liked with Sequels I Really Didn’t

Am not calling any of these the worst sequels of all time or likewise calling any of the originals the best ever by any stretch of anyone’s imagination, but these are sequels to anime series I fell in love with and didn’t really care at all for what came next. (am not considering OVAs or movies based on entire shows, btw, because they both almost always suck compared to entire seasons anime)

1. Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka)

The original DanMachi series was proof-positive that predictable and cliché can still yield a really great tale when the directing and production is top notch. Everything that should have made it lackluster couldn’t outweigh the feels and I always end up smiling earlobe to earlobe. The characters are beyond well crafted, and it is still crystalline-clear that this project was someone’s pride and joy. I adore the original series. The Sword Oratorio spinoff was -meh- to me, it leaned too much on the original for hooks as it tried to fill in Ais’ backstory and ended up being more about Lefiya anyways (plus they blatantly stole the marquee anthem from Last of the Mohicans, which turns me off a thousand times every time it plays now). Oratorio provided some levity, but did nothing at all to advance the story. Then we got DanMachi 2, which started out with mediocre writing but a killer arc and the backbone surfaced for some amazing story depth to amass, but all we got in the end was the horribly lame Ishtar arc where a depressed fox girl doesn’t want to be a prostitute and Bell feels bad about it. I’ve felt exactly nothing for these characters since the original.

2. Overlord

Take a peruse through my blog and you will see that I have never campaigned for a second season of anything more than I did Overlord. I LOVE the first season, it is an absolute favorite of mine, and being that it is yet another Madhouse anime I honestly never expected more but always clamored for it because Overlord was absolutely deserving. When we finally got S2, it threw me for a loop because the original cast barely appears in the first four episodes, but then I found my feet and eventually got myself into the new episodes. Ironically, that is about all that this second season had to offer to me. The lizardmen arc is fantastic, definitely watch it, but when that ends? Here’s about all you need to know: Sebas has a softer side, Climb is a little bitch. There you go, onto season 3 (which is fantastic, btw). 

3. Full Metal Panic

FMP is one of my favorite old-school anime ever, because it balances great humor, great characters, and - despite a shload of filler in the second half - a great all-around story. It is SUCH a gem. Second Raid was a tad bumpy due to a new studio, but still fantastic, and Fumoffu was the comedic break that an already goofball of an anime conjured up and it totally fit as long as no one took it too seriously. Then, some 15yrs later out of nowhere we get Invisible Victory, which Xebec used to completely rewrite everything, and not in a good way. From go, Kyouka - an important supporting character from the outset - is killed and totally glossed over like it wasn’t significant asf, and I got pissed. Then all the already-established characters took on totally new personalities of grave seriousness, which was never the brand. When you take previously established characters who have always been hopeful, energetic, and buoyant to a fault, always looking forward and up - and suddenly make all of them overtly dramatic, hardened, and inordinately austere across the board, it totally cheapens the original and to an extent that superflous doesen't even begin to describe. Massive franchise fail, Xebec - dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow. Easily the sequel I have hated the most. As in, ever. 

4. Sword Art Online

Look, I am the last person you need to tell how much bad this series has divulged into. I was so all-in on the concept, the characters, the drama, and the love of the original series. Do you think it’s ironic that I’ve been doing this almost 5yrs now and haven’t changed my URL? I’ve always said that if the first Matrix movie were left alone and that was it - Neo giving that threat and then flying off into the credits and we have to make up the reality that may or may not have transpired after that -  that it would be in the top 10 movies ever made. That’s how I see the first arc of SAO. It was THAT good, I have somehow watched it more than anything ever made. I originally considered the whole second half of the first season to be filler and am always turned off at the molestation that it celebrates, but said it was ‘for the story’. Then the Sterben shiz happened and I said ‘yes, it’s the EXACT SAME STORY  but it’s going somewhere’, and then it did, to somewhere absolutely worse. I made it about halfway through Alicization and I up and quit altogether. SAO is such a shit franchise - the only thing that has gotten worse than the animation is the writing, the characters that used to be great are so incredibly shallow and annoying now, and I have made more fun of something I used to love than anyone. I am the first to admit I am a huge heel for most of what I have said in support of it in the past. But omg those first 14 episodes. I can’t label the initial tale of SAO as anything but amazing. And if those 14 episodes were the only episodes we ever got, I would easily call it one of the best anime ever made.

5. Date a Live

I almost have to laugh that I am about to mention Date a Live after that. DAL was never going to be confused with a good anime, but it was fun. It was silly and rampant and insane, but you still fell in love with the characters because they were totally and completely worth falling in love with. Then DAL2 happened, and I hate this season a little too much. It was released too soon, it was done too poorly, it was just every kind of measurable cringe. The only thing worse than the writing was the lackadaisical and pedestrian voice acting, and that’s saying a lot considering how intern-worthy the animation of the second season was. DAL3 redeems itself plenty, the characters become likeable again, and there is an actual story and it isn’t awful and harkens back to seeds planted that were never developed, and at least part of the budget was dedicated to better artwork. But wow - DAL2 is just pure hot garbage.

6. A Certain Magical Index (Toaru Majutsu no Index)

The first two seasons of both Raildex series have casts I'd pretty much take on an entire den of Wendol with a soup spoon to protect. They're just that good, so I was beyond excited when a third Index season was announced. I've never read the source material, so maybe some were ready for it more than I was, but Index III started off TOTALLY different - the blood and brutality is turned up past 10, everybody up and turned into an a-hole about everything, and it all felt very foreign to me compared to everything before it. But, I stayed in because I was still invested in the characters and wanted to see where it all went. It eventually reminded me a lot of the good 'ol days of anime where it wasn't always happy, where sometimes even the good guys made you feel bad, and where there was a fairly complex storyline that you really had to pay attention to if you wanted to keep up. The difference is, a lot of those shows were good. Index III just... was. I got nothing out of choking my way through the entire season, and really didn't care about anything but finishing it long before I ever did. I still feel a bit betrayed that this was the anime that fans waited 8 years for. 

7. Eureka 7 Ao

No need for any exposé. Screencap says it all. How you follow up one of the most epic mecha anime ever with this fail of a series is beyond me. Great music, absolutely abysmal writing. 

8. Infinite Stratos

Was Infinite Stratos good? Original, yes. Fun, yes, Characters that made you care about them, yes. But good? BWAHAHAHA NO, it absolutely was not good. IS is one of a handful of titles I chuckle about saying I enjoyed, because it's quite bad. Which is how you know IS2 is total dregs, because it's so very bad that it makes the first season look kinda decent. There was a story worth developing in place in the second season, they just chose to go full potato on the harem and fanservice elements instead, and decided that the writing didn't really matter. The ensuing episodes are for the most part just too much stupid to watch. 

9. Blood Blockade Battlefront (Kekkai Sensen)

A bit of an odd duck, Kekkai Sensen introduced us to a world of enigmatic and strange bedfellows traversing a totally bonkers landscape of a world that somehow all manages to come together as a collective yaaas in the end. There is a unity that develops between them which task by wacky task binds these otherwise incongruent personalities together towards a common goal, and interpersonal gold eventually develops between them. The strengths of the individual are blended like watercolor to reinforce the weaknesses of the individual within the resulting eccentric genus. A cliché but nonetheless robust red string of fate ties all the loose ends together and a fantastic actuality of cognizance materializes between the ragtag cast and the forces that amass against them, and the first season ends with a feel-good that no one could have ever seen coming. It really is a great ride. Then the second season happens, and the glue that holds it all together feathers and ‘stuff just happens’. I was disappointed that all that great writing and plot that intertwines in the first season is totally absent in the second, and in the end it becomes just tales. I wanted so much more and got barfly stories regaled secondhand.

‘Tis done finally! Critical Fan art of the Sparkletones and thier Malgublyet makeovers from episode #497. Episodes were there are makeovers are some of my all time favorites and this one was a doozy! It instantly sparked my creativity. Whenever possible, I love to brandish my love for costume/clothes design. Especially when you get the reactions we did from the crew from their new duds. While working on this I realized just how long it’s been since my last fan art I’ve done for Critical Hit. So this was more than overdue. Plus it gave me a chance to play with character designs themselves again.

For those interested, here is my breakdown for each character’s outfit:

Randus: Probably the easiest design for me to come up with, because as soon as the items “Bigger stupider goggles and elbow length gloves” were uttered, my thoughts immediately went to: “Oh, those cute fashion Goblins are going for mad scientist-meets-blacksmith.” So really it’s a more goofier version of his usual adventuring gear, with a hint of flare through out (since they are about to meet a very style over function God). I imagine that Randus doesn’t mind the look too much since at the very least, it isn’t like the formal attire he has to wear back at home (you know, clothes he has to keep clean and are far too lacking in the pocket department). However, he definitely keeps the bandanna on because #1: He always wears it when adventuring because he’s a sentimental mush. #2: Goblins think it works with the outfit. #3: I adore bandannas. Lol.

Orem: Oh my gods...this was amazing to design because the goal was coming up with something Orem would just absolutely be miserable in but still be sorta fashionable in a “retro/thrift store wizard shop” way. As soon as Rodrigo was an evil genius and told him it was a comical red wizard outfit; far different then Orem’s usual preferred fashion of light, form fitting, elegant, white and blue Eladrin silks...I had to take it up a notch and a half! I made the already suggested floppy wizard hat, even more floppy and implying that it’s made of a gross suede material that would just really amplify the feeling of a weighty, miserable hat. The outer robe I also wanted to be made out of a suede, very heavy material that wouldn’t match his hat. Tied in a gaudy silk braided belt. Lets face it, Orem seems the type to hate outfits in which patterns and/or textures don’t vibe well for an overall look. Which Lastly is why I came up with a “tacky” maroon star pattern robe for underneath his outer robe so it could clash and act as the stereotypical nod to wizards wearing robes with stars on them.

Little Sparkle: Sparkle’s all grey, Goblin vision of what a “rouge” outfit was fun. Honestly the first couple a drafts I drew, I was going to go with very plain textures and coloring, but I really wanted to get creative with this “all grey” look. My justification was that Malgublyet’s idea of “simple or plain” is still pretty chic. It also helped that her attitude was all more than pleased with the outfit, so I wanted to put her in something that would still be really cute on her. I was really close to drawing her with the hood up, but I was just so happy with how my redesign of her came out (it’s been so long since I drew her, I had to change it up), I wanted to show off her pretty face and plumage! By the way, I now want those baggy-ass pants. They look gloriously comfy!!!

Ket and Gai: Holy cow...it was probably the fact that Gai was fluffed to look like a poodle that I made it a promise to draw the group’s fashion makeover. It doesn’t help that in the past I actually worked as a groomer and I have done my fair share of poodle grooming, so drawing Gai was just a funny and amazing experience. As for Ket, I took advantage of the fact it had been so long since I last drew him to redesign him from the ground up...and DAMN, he’s never looked more handsome in my opinion. As for his outfit, I chose royal blue/purple color schemes mainly because #1: I hardly doubt Ket’s choice of clothing really has these sorts of nice cool and rich colors and verity is the spice of life. And #2: It was made kinda as a slight to Orem because he adores blue and I’m sure he very much dislikes this atmosphere in which Ket is the more better dressed and fancy individual. LOL. Psst!!! BTW, OMG THAT MUSTACHE!!! <3

Sekhar: Once the description for him was made I was so stoked to get to work on the amazing Sekhar Obleea! I really love designing armor when given the chance, and huge shoulder piece ones are some of my favorites! For this, I wanted our favorite large, suave, Vampire fellow, to look like a major kick-ass, fashionable, knight in shining armor that would make bad guys weep about their own outfits and flee in shame. It helped too that he seemed quite pleased with the look, which to me meant that it must be dazzling to look at since I see Sekhar as someone who does occasionally enjoy dressing well, since after all he is handsome as f**k and he knows it. Lastly, just as a cute nod, it has “M” shaped motifs through out the design as tribute to the amazing Malgublyet.

I hope you fellow Critical Hit fans enjoy this as much as I liked making it. I would have finished it sooner, but it’s been a bit rough finding free time to work on this because currently @messybitch802  are still working on our Hobbit Fanfiction/Fanart project. So time for art has been eaten up by that as of late. It will probably be a while, but I do really want to do some more nice finished pieces of the crew’s time spent in Malgublyet’s domain because I really enjoyed those episodes.
