my college essay <3
There’s always a debate about what really makes someone a woman; I believe it’s fear. The specific type of fear only women can have when they know that this interaction could end in an assault. It’s like when you get your blood pressure checked, they place the band around your arm and it starts squeezing. Only the band is put around your legs, neck, and heart; you can’t run away, you can’t scream for help, you’re about to become a statistic. The worst part is that most men barely realize when it happens. They’ll see a girl talking with their friend across the room and silently cheer him on, completely ignoring her darting eyes searching for help or her side steps to prevent him from cornering her. To be a woman is to always know you’re in danger.
One of my favorite musical artists is a band called Badflower. One of the main reasons I love them so much is because all four members are not afraid to talk about important social issues. In fact, their newest album, “This Is How The World Ends”, is all about social issues ranging from patriotism to the effect the pandemic had on politics. The eleventh track, "Tethered", keeps in line by following a young girl who ends up being drugged and raped at a party by a much older man; subsequently leading her to marry him and stay in the abusive relationship. Once the emphasis on her naivety is made, the following lines play in the third verse: "Then speech becomes a slur, She’s talking to some creep, Uncomfortable as hell, But too polite to leave" You can tell by the last line alone that it was a man who wrote this song; any woman would have said "scared" instead.
The fact that men can write an entire song about this issue and still completely misunderstand it demonstrates how uniquely feminine this experience is; men will never understand our fear, pain, or solemn understanding of our place in the world. Every woman has, at least once, dealt with a creepy guy whether he was following her in the store, staring at her on the beach, or outright catcalling every girl has a story. Yet if you ask a man about his experiences with sexual assault, chances are he won’t have any. This isn’t to discredit male survivors but to highlight the disproportionate gap between sexes. Most men won’t even think twice about walking to their car after work but women are always told to go in pairs "in case anything happens".
When men are talking to a creepy guy, he doesn’t want to end the conversation out of fear of being seen as rude. If he abruptly ends the conversation and moves on to do something else, the other person might be offended and not talk to him again. But when women are talking to a creepy guy, she doesn’t want to end the conversation out of fear. If she abruptly ends the conversation and moves on to do something else, the other person might be offended and follow her to the bathroom to get her alone. Growing up young girls are constantly taught how to protect themselves, not to walk alone at night, never leave your drink unattended, and always share your location when on the first date. It is never presented to you as an "if this happens to you" scenario, but rather as a "when it happens" scenario.
Sexual assault is always on women’s minds as it is the only thing we all have in common; the fear of it happening to us. Men can never and will never be able to experience that level of systematic terror. When women are feminists, it's because they will literally die without it. When men are feminists, chances are they just want girls to think they're hot. Even if they truly do want a change in how women are treated, they can't even begin to understand what it means to be in that position. The feminine experience of fear is what defines me as a woman, but it will never define me as a person.

We are well beyond canary in the coalmine warning levels with the way trans people and particularly trans women are treated on this site.
Maybe you've heard the metaphor of allowing wolves and sheep to share the same space, welcoming everyone. You end up with just wolves because allowing them in that space makes it unsafe for any sheep. Or the story about how a nazi goes into a dive bar and is refused service. The bartender then explains to someone else at the bar that if you serve them once they tell their friends and before you know it you're the nazi bar they all go to and normal customers don't feel safe.
Terfs and other bigots are seeing these targeted harassment campaigns succeed against trans women and rejoicing. They see Tumblr ban them and officially stand by those decisions as endorsement for their harassment. It's a sign to bigots across the internet that Tumblr is a good place for them.
And what's more is that a lot of us probably don't realize just how much trans women contribute to Tumblr. The women banned recently were sources of site-wide memes and posts I wasn't even aware originated from them.any years old memes and references can be traced back to trans women on this site.
How many of these folks have to be removed before this is no longer a site you want to be a part of it? Sure you cultivate your own experience, but you can't follow or interact with people who aren't here. And if I wanted to interact with the nazis and terfs I'd go to reddit.
I encourage everyone to reblog this. Trans women shouldn't have to be the only ones speaking out against the bigotry they're experiencing. They shouldn't be the only ones risking their blogs being nuked by staff. We have to stand with them.

"Oh so we're not allowed to say 'trans men are men' anymore? So you think they're women? You're a transphobe?"
What they actually said: "Ugh, gross, trans men really are the men of the trans community."
Times like this are when I need more people to be aware of the term "malgendering," the kind of transphobia where someone validates a trans person's gender identity just to use it against them. We can all tell all you're doing is applying your negative stereotypes of cis men to trans men, and it's not transphobic to call you out on it. Trans men do not become shittier people when they transition and you are awful for implying they do.

when you're part of a group with structural power over another goup, you really do gotta just learn to say "i am not exempt from 'fuck 'em' when relevant" whenever someone expresses frustration with you or people like you.

makes me a little sad when star trek ignores IDIC. like. vulcans are logical. that is true. But 'logical', for vulcans, does not amount to 'without compassion,' and it definitely doesn't amount to 'racial superiority.' Belief in 'infinite diversity in infinite combinations' should NOT result in the weird racist/speciest stuff we're getting in some of the newer treks. It does make sense that some vulcans are discriminatory. They're still flawed. But that should not be common or expected, like it seems to be in SNW. If it is, then it's a race of hypocrites, which. doesn't seem very true to Star Trek's message.
I think TOS Spock does a pretty good job of embodying this. Not always, it was the 60s, after all, but mostly. He was often trying to find non-violent routes, and get by without killing - even if they were in danger or had already been attacked. (See: the mugato, and the horta (until Kirk was the one in danger, lmao. t'hy'la > IDIC), the Gorn ship). Kirk, in his eulogy, calls him the most human soul he's ever known, and I've always read that as Kirk calling out Spock's overwhelming compassion.
It's just so much more interesting when Vulcans get to be radically compassionate. I want them to believe that everything and everyone has value. I want them to respect all ways of being. I want them to find ways for even very non-humanoid aliens to exist unfettered in society. I want them to see hybrids and think that it's amazing. Also, like, disability rep. I want Vulcans to have The Most Accessible Planet and available resources because they want everyone to feel accepted and valued. It makes for better characters and more interesting stories.

Ghouls night out
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wei wuxian#lan wangji#Scopophobia#Don't be mean Lan Wangji - the dead girl aesthetic is a curated one. Support women's rights to look dead!#I have been waiting for this scene for ages...the ghost girl entourage is such a good look for WWX.#And by gods does the audio drama actually do something interesting with one of them.#Namely that we actually get to see WWX talk with them and learn about who they were and what they left behind.#I love necromancer characters but it's way too common for them to be like “Go! Ghost no.145!” like they're a pokemon#and not...you know...someone who had a whole life that they left behind.#I love me a necromancer who has an awareness to whose soul/body they are using. It adds a lot of flavour!#MDZS is a little hit or miss with this. I think the fans do a lot of the work with making Mo Xuanyu a bigger character.#Yi City has this in spades. Even though we don't individually get character backstories#We get many painful reminders about how these 'corpses' were people.#We also get a few lines about how WWX used whatever corpses he could get his hands on (including grandparents - Woof!)#MDZS often (but not always) likes to remind us that every sacrifice and every ghost was a person.#It is so close to nailing the landing regarding the deconstruction of the necromancer character.#Anyhow. You may have noticed the uptick in quality in the last two comics. Rule of three means next one is going to be a treat B*)#See you all very soon!
