I hate it when I headcanon a character who’s canonically a girl as a trans man and make ships of him and a character who’s canonically a guy and I refer to it as a gay/mlm/guyxguy/whatever ship and someone gets mad. Like omg let trans people have FUNNNNN. Why are queer headcanons and genderbends cool until they’re saying that the character is trans???

and like half of the characters in the franchise are women, and a total of… NONE of the characters are trans men. Also, my headcanon doesn’t change the source material. If my stuff upsets you, you can block me and go engage with the source or maybe every single other fanwork, since mine is the only trans man hc for this character that I’ve ever seen.

No, I don’t think that being a trans man makes you a woman or vice versa. That’s why it’s a headcanon, and the headcanon is that this character is actually a trans man and not a woman at all! You’ll never guess what pronouns most trans men had to use at some point in their lives, and you really won’t like it when you find out about pre-(or no-)transition trans men… or trans men who are in the closet… or trans men who don’t know that they’re trans yet.

I’ve seen this one from other queer people. Like did you miss when all of the homophobes said this about your identity, or do you think that bigotry is only bad when it’s directed at you?

Why would your brain even go to that first? This literally has to be a bad faith reading, because there’s no way that someone could see what I said and get this unless they were specifically looking for something to be mad at me for.

(Note for anyone unaware: “Estrogen would’ve fixed him!” was a meme going around at the time I said this. I’m not sure if it’s still super big, but this was a joke to the effect of that.)

WIP Wednesday #15

More doa horror game shenanigans~!

Sigma pursed his lips, his throat dry. His thumb wavered, trembling where it rested against the joystick. The ordeal with Abi and the… creature had left him shaken, but he didn’t get to pass the controller away just yet.

Now he had to choose whether to shoot the bush or—

“Shoot.”

Sigma’s head snapped toward Nikolai. Absently, he felt Fyodor reach over to pause the game, but he couldn’t tear his gaze away from Nikolai’s mismatched eyes. He couldn’t believe how serious Nikolai looked, his mouth pressed into a stern line and his brow furrowed aggressively.

“What?” Sigma wheezed quietly.

“You have to shoot,” Nikolai insisted, panicked, one hand reaching over squeeze Sigma’s wrist urgently. What the horror aspect of the game actually getting to him? Sigma had never seen Nikolai look so shaken, and the sight only made his blood pulse quicker.

“I—I do?”

“Yes, you do!” Nikolai pushed closer, practically pressing Sigma up against Fyodor’s shoulder. “You have to shoot the bushes, Sigma! Those things are after us! You saw what they did to poor, poor Nick! What they tried to do to Abi! Sigma, Sigma, everyone will die if you don’t shoot!”

“I—” Sigma swallowed as he tried to clear his head. Everything Nikolai said made sense, but he couldn’t think! Not with the leftover adrenaline still burning through his blood from the ordeal with Abi. “Are you sure?”

“Absolutely sure!” Nikolai nodded, wide-eyed and fervent. Tears brimmed in his eyes, his fear illuminated by the video game’s dark light. “Sigma, if you don’t shoot, we’ll all die!

Sigma took a deep, ragged breath. His heart thumped faster, and his hands shook as he gripped the black and white controller. Was Nikolai right? Would something bad happen if he didn’t shoot?

Sigma couldn’t let anyone else get hurt! Not if he had the power to stop it from happening, right?

Then—

“Nikolai,” came Fyodor’s amused reprimand, “stop stressing him out on purpose. Let him make his own choices.”

Nikolai’s frightened expression morphed into a mean grin, and his sniffles easily replaced with snickers. Sigma’s mouth fell open in horrible realization. He dropped the controller and reached for the nearest pillow, snacking Nikolai with it as punishment for his awful trick.

“You—whack—absolute—whack—ass!”

Nikolai’s peals of laughter rose above the game’s somber score, a bright and relieving sound that Sigma hated to admit relaxed him after so much stress. He’d never admit that Nikolai’s stupid prank had helped him unwind some, that maybe he’d needed the distraction even if Nikolai’s methods were… questionable.

With an irritated huff and one final smack, Sigma cuddled back up against Fyodor. He picked up the controller. He didn’t shoot the bushes.

And when the option presented itself again just a few moments later, Sigma wasn’t surprised to feel Nikolai’s mouth at his ear, eager and persuasive, “Shoot the bushes!”

… What the hell, right? Sigma might as well give in to Nikolai's insisting. After all, what was the worst that could happen?
