Mental health through the brain-gut connection
The gut-brain connection refers to the relationship between the digestive system and the central nervous system. Recent research has shown that the health of the gut can have a significant impact on mental health and well-being. In this article, we'll explore the connection between the gut and the brain and how a healthy gut can improve mental health.
What is the Gut-Brain Connection?
The gut and the brain are connected through a network of nerves, hormones, and signaling molecules. The gut has its own nervous system, known as the enteric nervous system, which communicates with the central nervous system. This connection is bidirectional, meaning that the brain can influence the gut, and the gut can influence the brain.
How a Healthy Gut Improves Mental Health
1. Reducing Inflammation:
A healthy gut can help reduce inflammation in the body, which has been linked to depression and anxiety. By reducing inflammation, a healthy gut can improve mental health and well-being.
2. Improving Nutrient Absorption:
A healthy gut can improve the absorption of essential nutrients like B vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids, which are important for brain health.
3. Regulating Serotonin Levels:
Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that is important for mood regulation. A healthy gut can help regulate serotonin levels, which can improve mood and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.
4. Reducing Stress:
A healthy gut can help regulate the body's stress response system, which can reduce the impact of stress on the body and mind.
How to Improve Gut Health
1. Probiotics:
Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that live in the gut. They can be taken in supplement form or found in fermented foods like yogurt and kimchi.
2. Prebiotics:
Prebiotics are fibers that feed the beneficial bacteria in the gut. They can be found in foods like garlic, onions, and asparagus.
3. Avoiding Processed Foods:
Processed foods can disrupt the balance of bacteria in the gut and contribute to inflammation. Avoiding processed foods and eating a whole-foods based diet can improve gut health.
4. Managing Stress:
Stress can disrupt the balance of bacteria in the gut and contribute to inflammation. Managing stress through techniques like meditation, yoga, and deep breathing can improve gut health and mental health.

Conflict of Interests of Large Health Associations: Funded by Unhealthy Food Companies?
Why [was the American Diabetes Association] actually recommending people to eat these foods linked to diabetes? It seemed that the large health organizations were recommending people to eat the very foods linked to the diseases they're supposed to be fighting against: American Heart Association promoting beef; American Cancer Society promoting processed meat; pink ribbons [for breast cancer awareness] on dairy products; and bacon-wrapped shrimp by the American Diabetes Association. And then, it all came together...
And there it was: the American Diabetes Association was taking money from Dannon (one of the world's largest dairy yogurt), Kraft Foods (makers of Velveeta processed cheese, Oscar Mayer processed meats, Lunchables processed kids meals), and Bumble Bee Foods (makers of processed canned meats). American Cancer Society was taking money from Tyson (one of the world's largest meat producers) and Yum Brands (owner of Pizza Hut, KFC, and Taco Bell). Susan G. Komen, [which] was supposed to be fighting breast cancer, was promoting and partnering with KFC, Dietz & Watson processed meats, and Yoplait yogurt. And the American Heart Association was probably the most disturbing of them all — taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from the beef industry, poultry, and dairy producers, and millions from fast food and processed food manufacturers. Every single one of these associations was taking money from the meat & dairy companies that were correlated with the causes of these diseases. This would be like the American Lung Association taking money from the tobacco industry.

“WELL WHY DO YOU HAVE EXCESS STOMACH ACID YOU SHOULD FIGURE THAT OUT FIRST”
“I’d love to know too but I haven’t figured that out yet so for now I’m sticking to tums”

making my own post re "alternative" medicine and essential oils/supplements/herbs:
it is patently dangerous to mock and deride any other approach to medicine than the western medical system provides. it gives people this idea that herbs, supplements, etc are just harmless floofy jokes to play around with.
where the fuck do you think concentrated, extracted medicines /came from/? They came from fucking plants. which as herbal tinctures, supplements, etc, can kill you, worsen your condition, or help you!
people deserve to be educated on how to distinguish between snake oil salesmen and legitimately helpful substances in the supplements & vitamins aisle.
Also, not everyone can eat fruits and veggies and obtain all the nutrients they need for like, Christ, 500 reasons?? from food aversion, to food scarcity, to the fact that our crops are being grown with depleted nutrients and increased sugars and starches due to CO2 in the atmosphere, to food allergies and medical conditions that make digesting fruits and vegetables untenable.
I am very frustrated with the arrogance of people who deride all forms of folk medicine, and traditions alongside actual scams. It does harm to disabled and chronically ill people seeking treatments where the blunt force one size fits all for profit medical system has failed us. It contributes to the invalidation of NOW "scientifically proven" modalities such as acupuncture and postural somatic therapies that come from East Asian and South Asian traditions. I am not advocating for uncritical belief and acceptance of every new age healing scam. I'm angry at those scammers for continuing to delegitimize these traditions and contribute to the hostile attitude most physicians have towards anyone who seems additional treatment outside of their sanctioned facilities.
Approaching health from a nutritional, supplemented standpoint is not and does not have to be unscientific.
In fact it's two heads of the same hydra that allow random white ladies to claim they are certified in "quantum biofeedback" and can read your genetic code and board certified oncologists to actually fucking kill kids on the cancer floor whose bodies are not tolerating the standard practice cocktail of brutal treatments currently used to target cancer. It's arrogance and stupidity, overconfidence on one hand and cynicism on the other.
May I remind you Long COVID symptoms are being effectively lessened by acupuncture.
We will all benefit from learning the difference between MLM essential oil scammer crystal moms and legitimate practices that are being thrown into the grab bag of "alternative medicine."
#sorry this gets my goat#im going to a naturopathic certified physician next for primary care because all motherfucking normal doctors thus far have been able to do#is say 'your tests came back normal!!! :))()' and shoo me out of the office#like you dont even know what MCAS is#anyways#nutrition#holistic medicine#i just wish people would be as mad at medical malpractice as they are at holistic scammers#because what do you think drives that industry???#its people fleeing malpractice or with limited scientific education who have learned in other ways not to trust doctors#medicine

That level of confidence on rejecting anything beyond what a MD will tell you (and not even a DO apparently?) has reached peak stupid I see. Probiotics work. Saccharomyces boulardii straight up saves lives. Come the fuck on.
I haven't criticized DOs, DOs are fully qualified physicians. For those not aware: In the US a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) has the same qualifications as an MD; if you want a doctor who does more holistic care but is a real-ass doctor, look for a DO.
DC, doctor of chiropractic, is the degree that you get from the ITT Tech of medical schools to lie to people and call yourself a doctor.
Saccharomyces boulardii is one of the probiotics included in the recommendations of the AGA as conditionally recommended in spite of low quality of evidence.
Saying "probiotics are largely woo" and including a link to A) guidelines that recommend evidence-based use of probiotics and B) a commentary on those guidelines lamenting that the lax regulation of the supplement industry has made it excessively difficult to study potentially helpful interventions is not the same thing as saying "probiotics don't work."
I know it can be hard to see but on tumblr when there's a little line under some words that means the words are a link; you can place your cursor over that link and single-click to go to a different page of the internet that might include more words you can read are a much longer and more comprehensive explanation of the words that you initially clicked on.
There's no conclusive evidence that regular supplementation of probiotics improves digestive issues in healthy people and taking probiotics regularly if you are not at risk for c. diff likely means that you're just shitting money down the drain.
Aspirin saves lives too, but that doesn't mean that literally everyone should take it daily for its life-saving benefits.
I became *absolutely ironclad* in my support for evidence based medicine over medical woo after my chronic illness diagnosis and while trying to figure out how to not feel sick all the time. Getting diagnosed with celiac in 2012 meant getting inundated with books like Wheat Belly and links to Joseph Mercola and advice to take probiotics and to stop eating the yoga mat chemical. Navigating a chronic illness and *massive dietary changes* on an internet awash with medical woo was a nightmare, and you're making the exact same kind of argument that I stumbled across on a ton of forums where parents were trying to treat their kids' symptoms, or where people were searching for help with their own pain and struggles and were getting *bad fucking answers* about probiotics and essential aminos and diatomaceous earth.
Probiotics "work" to help some people in extremely specific situations, but, like most supplementation, they are absolutely unnecessary for the vast majority of people and unless you know that you have a specific condition that will be improved by taking them, you're mostly spending a lot of money to swallow a lot of things and shit them out. If you have a gut disorder, probiotics will not make your gut disorder better. If you have diarrhea as a result of food borne illness, probiotics will not get your poop back to normal. If you are constipated, probiotics will not soften your stools or make you more regular. If you are at risk of c. diff from a course of antibiotics and you are NOT immune compromised, probiotics may potentially reduce your risk of c. diff infection and you should talk to a doctor who is treating you for that specific situation about whether or not probiotics might be helpful in the short term while your gut microbiome recovers from the antibiotics.

I think there's the sense that, everything's okay in moderation. Right? But, we haven't seen that moderation works. There really isn't a study that shows that by eating meat and eggs in moderation that you can turn your heart disease around and get better.

“Another day…” I say to myself as I walk through the parking garage. The is air still damp from the rainstorm yesterday. I look around. The garage is oddly vacant. Perhaps I’d come in when the buildings closed again. Determined to finish the day and get home quickly, I trudge past the puddles and cigarette butts. “God it’s freezing,” I say to myself, shivering.
I look around again. I’m used to a long walk to the stairs but today’s feels… really long. I can’t see my car but that’s all thanks to the thick fog that has been settled in town for a few days. I can’t see the stairwell either. The only thing I can see is the fog surrounding me. I sigh and continue my trek forwards, unsure if I’m even moving forwards anymore.
After a few more minutes of walking, I stumble upon an odd sight. In front of me is a shopping booth, something I’ve never seen the liking of before here. A faint concoction of aromas reach my nose: a strange mix of perfume, wood, leather, and some other implacable scents. At the booth stands a broad man. On the table, there are a variety of brightly colored liquids contained in erlenmeyer flasks. The man waves me over, a toothy grin across his dark, bearded face.
“Well hello there fine fellow! How can I help ya?” the man asks. His voice is gravelly and deep, the kind of voice that makes you weak in the knees.
“Oh, I’m not interested in buying anything, sir. I’m just trying to find the stairs,” I respond.
The man lets out a hearty laugh, “Please, call me Rohan! And I insist. I’ll even give you a hefty discount.”
I eye the flasks, taking in the colorful liquids. Each is bubbling and emanates an odd warmth, much preferable over the freezing air of the rest of the parking garage. “So, what are they?” I ask.
“Oh, just some herbal remedies. They’re very common in holistic medicine,” Rohan says, lifting up to of the flasks. “Would you like one, sir?”
“Oh I’m not sure if I should. I’ve tried these things before and they haven’t… agreed with me,” I say, letting out a small chuckle.
“Don’t you worry about that, sir. These are all natural. I insist, try one. Here,” Rohan picks up a pink one and holds it out for me. I reluctantly grab it and give him a half-smile. “That’ll be $5, sir,” Rohan says as he holds out his large palm. I search through my wallet and find a crumpled up $5 bill and hand it to him. He smiles and says with a certain satisfaction, “Have a lovely day, sir!”
I walk off with the flask in hand, still unsure of where the stairs are. I check my phone for the time. Shit! I’m late! I briskly walk through the parking garage but to no avail. I’m still lost. At least until I see my car. Damnit! I just walked in a big circle! Exhausted and angry, I get in my car and sit down. The car is almost as cold as outside, a small remnant of the heating still present. I start the car, deciding to head home.
Before I can put my foot on the gas pedal, my gaze drifts down to the flask in the passenger’s seat. “I should probably drink that…” I say to myself. I reach down and grab it, bringing the beverage to my lips. It smells like perfume. I lift the flask, the contents of which pouring into my mouth and down my throat. It’s almost unbearably sweet. So much so that it’s almost bitter. There’s also a strange salty aftertaste. I cough and drink from my water bottle, the flavor lingering in my mouth.
I drive home in silence, allowing myself to be bitter about today’s events as of now. As I drive home, I notice an odd, unfamiliar tingling in my butt. I itch it but it doesn’t help. “Maybe I just worked legs a little too hard yesterday,” I say with a shrug. Soon, my whole body feels tingly, almost numb. My work clothes begin to feel a bit tight on my body, specifically my pants. I’m sure I grabbed the larger size I have but maybe I didn’t. This morning was quite hectic after all. I shrug off the odd occurrence and continue my drive home.
On the way home, I pass a Starbucks and turn into the parking lot. I usually don’t buy such frivolous things, but I’d already bought that horrible drink so why not? As I walk inside, I notice a strange quality to my walking. Usually I have a quite confident strut but that has been replaced by something almost like a waddle. Odd.
Once inside, I’m finally warm. The warmth of the store is so refreshing. Before ordering, I sit at a table by the window. Sitting here feels weird. I’m not used to this amount of cushioning on these chairs but maybe I misjudged them. I take off my winter coat, setting it on the high top table in front of me. I catch a glimpse of my arms in my tight dress shirt sleeves. Jesus! I’ve always been in shape but I’ve NEVER been this big. I flex a small bit, blushing at my public flexing session. Damn, the gym’s been doing me good recently.
A short blonde barista walks over to me. She’s very cute but my still bitter attitude puts a damper on my lustful looks. She pulls out a notepad and a pencil, “Would you like anything sir?”
“Oh no-“ I clear my throat. My voice sounds less deep than normal for some reason. “I mean, sure. Could I have a vanilla latte?” Why did I order that? I always order black coffee, never that girl shit. The barista smiles and nods, writing my order down, “Got it. Is that all?”
“Yes ma’am,” I respond. Handing her the money for the beverage.
She walks off, immediately going to make my drink. I rub my throat. Why do I still sound so weird? She comes back over, my drink in hand. “Here you go sir,” she says, “Oh and by the way, I love your hair. Blonde is so your color. You look fabulous.” She walks away to serve other customers.
What? Blonde? I’m not blonde. I’ve always had brown hair. And… fabulous? Who does she think I am? One of those queers? Does my hair really look blonde to her? I pull out my phone and look at myself in the selfie camera. Jesus! My hair IS blonde! And it looks… curly. What the hell happened?! And my face… It looks off. Something is uncanny about it. I look like myself but also not… Like my lips look bigger and so do my eyes. My eyebrows look a bit neater than they should and my stubble is shorter than normal.
I get down from the stool, ready to leave and deal with this weird stuff at home. As I walk out, I feel a strange jiggling in my rear. I crane my neck around my shoulder to see what was going on with my butt. Holy shit! My ass is huge! I run out to my car, my big fat ass jiggling like crazy as I run. I quickly drive home.
Once inside, I strip off my damp clothes to assess the damage. My muscles do look bigger than normal, especially my pecs. They look like fucking tits. Jesus, they’re huge. My ass is enormous, any movement causing it to jiggle wildly. And that tingling in my ass still hasn’t gone away. I look like a poster fag. Like the dictionary definition of a faggot. Fuck…
I go up to my room and find a cardboard box on my bed. After opening it, I see a huge pink dildo and a pink jockstrap, both the same color as the drink. The dildo is easily a foot long. I shiver in disgust looking at the items. An odd feeling comes from my ass. My ass is tingling worse than before, specifically directly in my asshole. God I just wanna shove that dildo up my ass… No! I can’t be thinking like a fag! Looking like one is bad enough!
I shove the grotesque items back into the box and chuck the box across the room. I look at myself in the mirror, hesitantly touching my pouty lips. They feel almost numb, as if they aren’t real. Come to think of it… I feel my pecs and my ass, both having the same numb tingling. Oh my god…
My body stiffens up, my back arched, showing off my large muscle tits and fake fuckable ass. Goddamn why am I thinking like that? Against my will, my buff arms reach up and turn my baseball cap, which had gone from a cream color to a black and pink one, backwards. It’s like a switch got flipped. My brain goes from active and agile to slow and dull. MY thoughts become more lustful and… gay.
Damn, I wish Rohan fucked me earlier. He like totally has a huge dick. I pout, crossing my arms across my inflated chest. My heads turns, facing the discarded box. My body prances over to the box and extracts the faggy… I mean sexy things. I pull the pink jockstrap over my big round ass, doing a few hops to see my bubble butt bounce in the elastic material. I snatch up the massive dildo and lay in my bed, my thick beefy legs spread out. My body instinctively shoves the dildo as far up my ass as it can.
My hole feels oddly loose despite the lack of penetration it’s received. My brain pushes those thoughts into the garbage, conjuring up new memories of me being fucked by hoards of men, each hung like a horse and concerningly aggressive. I let out shrill, feminine moans with each thrust of the toy. Each thrust causes my room and house to become more pink and slutty looking. My wardrobe emptying of my work clothes and instead having pink slutty outfits. My bed begins vibrating, my old bed replaced with a vibrating one.
I cum out of my shrunken cock, my small load leaving me gasping for air. I’ve never felt this much pleasure in my whole life! I sit on my knees in front of the full length mirror in my room and take a picture for my Daddies.
This is me now, a stupid, horny, bouncy slut for any man who’ll take me in for the night.

Which Type of Witch Are You? (Based on Your Moon & Mercury Sign)˚˖𓍢ִ໋ 💫 ✧˚.🔮⋆
Your Moon Sign can indicate the type of witchcraft you may be naturally attuned to. Unlike your Sun or Rising sign, which respectively govern your purpose and the traits you project–your Moon sign reflects the hidden aspects of your nature, what feels intuitive.
If we really want to get precise, you could also use your Mercury sign to learn more about your magickal blue print, due to Mercury symbolizing energy manipulation (which is CRUCIAL in magick).
In witchcraft, there are intuition and personal resonance playing a huge role, and your Moon sign can reveal the magical practices and elements you’re drawn to instinctively, even if you haven’t explored them directly.
🎃 Also, HALLOWEEN ASTRO READINGS are available! Spooky season calls for spooky readings. Grab yours HERE. ๋࣭ ⭑🕸🦇
🩸 ARIES: Blood Witch
Engaging in a highly intense form of magic, where blood is regarded as a sacred and potent conduit for connecting to one’s spirit or the life force within.
Using blood as a potent conduit for magic (Please Don’t Do This If You Are Not Experienced, It’s Dangerous): Recognizing the deeply binding nature of blood magic, where blood serves as a link to personal power, commitment, an offering. This practice requires caution, respect & experience due to its potential risks and the energies it summons.
Fire Magic, harnessing the transformative and passionate qualities of fire, invoking flames for both protective and manifestation purposes, symbolizing the power of destruction and rebirth.
Using candles for manifestations, to focus intentions. Their flames symbolize the transformation of thoughts and wishes into reality, often chosen in specific colors and dressed with oils or herbs to align with desired outcomes.
Receiving visions while watching flames, gazing into flames as a meditative or divinatory practice, using the flickering patterns to access intuition, receive insights, and stimulate visions.
🍀 TAURUS: Nature Witch
Attuned to the natural world, drawing strength and guidance from the earth and its elements.
