Y'all I know that when so-called AI generates ridiculous results it's hilarious and I find it as funny as the next guy but I NEED y'all to remember that every single time an AI answer is generated it uses 5x as much energy as a conventional websearch and burns through 10 ml of water. FOR EVERY ANSWER. Each big llm is equal to 300,000 kiligrams of carbon dioxide emissions.
LLMs are killing the environment, and when we generate answers for the lolz we're still contributing to it.
Stop using it. Stop using it for a.n.y.t.h.i.n.g. We need to kill it.

#unforth rambles#fuck ai#llms#sorry but i think this every time I see a reblog with more haha funny answers#how many tries did it take to generate the absurd#how many resources got wasted just to prove what we already know - that these tools are a joke#please stop contributing to this

there's something so deeply dystopian to me how tech companies don't understand that a forced convenience is not a convenience at all. i'm sure autocorrect is helpful for many, but a function that forcibly changes my actual written words and punctuation is taking away my language. photo filters can be nice but i need to choose using them myself or else i have lost the ability to take the picture i want. i don't want a machine to draw or write for me. taking away the option for me to do things manually feels like violence!!!! all this talk of endless opportunity, why are you RESTRICTING me
#haha im upset an android update removed my most used screenshotting tools while forcing more ai garbage on me#tech companies go sit in the staircase and think about what you've done#there are many technical conveniences i choose to rely on because they're convenient for my sensibilities#but these should not be the default for anyone or the only option#it's like. it's technology. it has the capability of being personalised for our actual use and convenience like isn't that the POINT#AHHHHHHHHH#also with all the ai bullshit it's so hard to fully underline how much i enjoy the act of drawing and creating and i don't WANT it to be#more 'convenient' or easy?#not in the eay techbros think anyway. i think there should be accessibility tools and options to make the Process good for Your Needs#which is not. having a machine create something in your stead ??? ??????????

Ai art fuck off
#artists on tumblr#sketch#ink sketch#imagine if they actually made tools for artists instead of this weird unethically used gimmick#cooler painting programs or like idk something that didn't just scrape the entire internet for profit#art#ink#drawing#people really think artists gonna sue individual ai artists like there's any profit in that#like artists could actually afford that money and time wise#it's self-centered fools who think that's what this fight is about#we just don't want our shit taken without permission and used as fodder for corporations to print money#without throwing a single bone at artists#artists are devalued and it shows and just keeps showingggghhhhhhggghg#☠️

HELPP i found out about character AIs and im losing it over calling deltarune sans "a more manipulative personality" 😭😭 like whatt we've only seen this man like 2 times
sorry im being a hater hgfjdks but you're the sans understander
lmaoo character.ai, look where the fall of ai dungeon got us, smh. thank you for the compliment though!
#i think those ai chaeracter rps are goofy as hell#i've played around with them a few times to see what it was all about. they play up the personalization too much it's not THAT customizable#i tried feeding it some sans lines back when i was doing the rp to see if the machine was capable of identifying his speaking style#since i'd essentially done the same thing just manually. i wanted to see how good it could get it#huge disappointment as predicted#i WILL give character.ai one thing though. hilariously not for its characters. there's this one tool called brainstorming that's super hand#you throw ideas/concepts at it & it throws back clarifying questions based on what you sent in. like playing tennis against a wall#essentially a dynamic version of those writing tip lists like what's the significance of this event for x. what conflict arises etc#optimally this is stuff you do with a friend. and truly nothing beats brainstorming with another writer. honest.#but if you're fully throwing spaghetti at the wall in the roughest stages of an idea it's a quick way to cycle through some basic what-ifs#pretty fun toy all things considered. but it stops being useful the moment things start shaping up forreal#answered asks

Wish fervent AI tech enthusiasts would understand that it's nice to manually do something (e.g make art on your own even if it's not up to par to what you'd like to make), because else your brain will rot.
#commentary#i can understand the part where ai stuff can be used as a potential tool#but i feel like people have been more considering it as a replacement altogether#at least it's what it seemed like from what i've seen since last year up to now#i also fully endorse literally anyone picking up art and this recent movement should be an even better motivator to do it#also this shit needs tight regulation asap

Tumblr artists, I'm running a poll on your opinion on Generative AI-created images
Bias is welcomed (and encouraged)
This isn't an official poll (run by little old me, and only me) but I'm writing an essay on the topic so. Go ahead and ratio it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
PLEASE if you feel like leaving your thoughts on the topic in the tags, or sending an ask (the anon option will always be there) to justify your answer, DO IT <3
Depending on how this goes, I might bring in some ideas from either side as evidence (I can also credit your username along with the statement - if you'd like credit please lmk in the same place you gave your opinion, everything I include will be anonymous by default)
Please be polite, it literally costs you nothing (and it's quicker and easier)
I'm not going to bring my personal opinion into this as that may sway the results, but that said if you want to make the results as biased as possible (ahem voter fraud ahem) go ahead
Please reblog for a larger sample size!
Liking a post doesn't really help here, I want as many people to see this and vote as possible <3
the poll will be open to votes for a week starting Friday, 5th April 2024

I really think it should be illegal for publicly available generative AI to create hyperrealistic photos/videos of children. Firstly, it's trained on images of real children, who inherently have not consented to their image being shared online, and secondly name a non-nefarious purpose that this technology would serve. How does anyone besides pedophiles benefit from the ability to generate an extremely realistic video of an infant
#oc#I think railing against generative AI itself is a fool's errand and I think what we need to be doing is thinking about how we can regulate#this tool and use it to benefit rather than harm people and I think this is good place to start

On Wednesday before I gave my presentation I confessed to a new employee that I was worried it would be too long and she brightly told me her life hack was to just let AI rewrite things for her. She said I should put in all my talking points and ask ChatGPT to give me a five minute exactly presentation. I was like....how is the most polite possible way (since this is a new colleague I shouldn't get off on the wrong foot with) that I can express that I will Not be taking this advice. Ever. I told her that I didn't think we were allowed to use ChatGPT at this job (we most certainly are not, it is a nightmare for any type of protected information) and also that I prefer to write all of my own work. Despite my best efforts the last part of that was still passive aggressive, lol.
Something about being a writer makes it so that it's almost offensive to me for someone to suggest I use AI to do my work instead? Like, the day I reach the point where I let AI write something for me is the day y'all need to be checking me for brain damage because clearly I'm losing it
#i also told her i was capable of making a 5 minute presentation but that i had too much information to cover to explain the project in 5 min#and she was like oh that makes sense!!#but like im sorry 😭am i the insane one or like....#idk to me suggesting I use AI isn't a helpful suggestion it reads as someone telling me i don't know how to do my job#does that make sense?#i don't consider it a lifehack or working smarter instead of harder. it seems like you're suggesting i am incapable of writing well myself#i know a lot of people right now thing AI is the best thing ever#to me it's a blatant omission that you can't do your own work or think for yourself#this is also even crazier of a suggestion to me because that morning i had TWO managers on call debating wording of a sentence#like we were reveiwing this presentation tightly so that we said exactly what we wanted to and met the standards of our administration#chatgpt is not going to understand the nuances of what we can/cannot say or official/approved wording lol#i think we use ai tools in the sense of like...photoshop generative fill or ai stuff in scientific research/arcgis#but i'm like 99% sure we were banned from using chatgpt over privacy concerns of putting controlled information into it#anyway. idk. i know not everyone writes as well as i do.#but i'd rather read bad writing that came from a person than something that was generated for you tbh#and i will help review my colleagues' writing any day

"AI is bad and copyright law might be able to stop it, so we should support more copyright laws–" [EXTREMELY LOUD INCORRECT BUZZER]
"Copyright is bad and AI is in violation of copyright, therefore being against AI is bad because that means you oppose common ownership of ideas–" [EVEN LOUDER INCORRECT BUZZER]
#AI#current events#copyright#'well AI isn't bas when it's used by small independent artists' and 'copyright is good if it protects small artists against corporations'#are the same arguments to me#'What if [tool made explicitly only for the benefitnof large corporations] was actually NOT that?' what if the world was made of pudding?

How do you feel about the increase in really weird NSFW ads on here (advertising panels that look like sexual encounters, and AI art apps that pride themselves on porn) but will take down NSFW posts from their users, even if it isn't technically sexual.
i hate all social media and it's consistent prioritising the advertisers over the users and the internet simply was a better place before capitalism sunk its hooks into it
#i could write essays about how capitalism ruined the internet.#i was actually talking to someone earlier today about how youtube was kind of effectively ruined by monetisation.#and they were raised in the soviet union and we had a bit of a talk about how art was better because it wasn't for profit.#the people who made art made it because they wanted to do it and because they loved it.#she said that communism was terrible for every aspect of life for her. people's lives under communism wasn't pretty.#but the art was better. and i feel like it's true for the internet – it was better when it was a free-for-all.#the companies didn't know how to exploit it yet and turn it into a neverending profit-driven hellscape.#people created content because they wanted to. because they wanted to make something silly to make people laugh.#not for profit. not for gain. not for numbers. not to further their career.#i miss the days of newgrounds and youtube before monetisation.#capitalism has soiled everything that's joyful and good in this world.#people should be able to share whatever they want.#people should be able to tell any story they want without the fear of being silenced by advertisers.#that's what made the internet so beautiful before. anyone could do anything and we all had equal footing.#but now we're victims of the algorithm. and it makes me sick.#i'm quitting my job in social media. i'm quitting it. it makes me too depressed. i have an existential crisis every freaking day.#every day i wake up and say "ah. this is the fucking hell we live in#i'm so sorry i feel so passionate about this.#social media is a black hole and it is actively destroying humanity. forget ai. social media is what's doing it.#i miss how beautiful the internet used to be. it should've been a tool for good. but it's corrupt and evil now.#sci speaks

A lot of arguments against ai art deal with technical/legal/ethical considerations and those are solid and good but for me there are things that are less tangible and harder to articulate but basically just...I don’t want to be a prompt generator. I don’t want to be a passive consumer of cool pictures. I want to connect and communicate with other people. Human creativity is good and deserves to be nurtured and protected.
#anti ai art#not even against it as a tool or a form of entertainment or whatever but#what's the end game here?#it should assist people#never replace them

if i have to sit through one more conversation in which i have to listen to someone chirp about the benefits of AI, i am going to stab someone
#my teacher is gonna make us have an AI unit 😨😨#what the fuck even is an AI unit#this is ethnic studies#and every time i have to sit there and act like the other person has a point when they're all just saying the exact same thing#“oh but it's impressive” yeah that's cause it's copied off the uncredited works of actual writers you dumbass#“yeah but i just use it to write quick emails” that's so fucking embarrassing what do you mean you can't write a fucking email#“i only use it as a tool” a tool for what? generative AI is a sad inefficient excuse of a 'tool' just use google it's not that hard#it's actually quite sickening not even gonna lie#i'll be talking to people who are supposed to be good at their job#and fully grown adults who i expect to be at least moderately competent when it comes to writing and they're out here relying on chatgpt#and i'll see people using chatgpt as a source too#like what happened to citing our sources? what happened to using credible sites? chatgpt is not a source#this is like basic middle school level media literacy#and not only that#but what also disgusts me is that these people don't even seem to care that AI is awful for the planet#it doesn't matter if your ugly fucking art is draining a whole goddamn lake because it's “pretty” and “impressive”#fucking hell#give me a break#fuck generative ai#me and the homies hate ai#anti ai#mxpotatoposts#jesus christ these tags are like 10 times longer than my actual post lmao

I think there's a huge disconnect these days where images are communal when it's about saying right click save to nft bros but somehow protecting the sanctity of image ownership when talking about artists online. Like follow the thread. Thinking you Own an image or idea just because ypu made it does a disservice to the idea of art-as-sharing including engaging with remixing and recontextualizing and replication.
Like yes artists deserve recognition over the products of what they make but monopolizing something intrinsically shred is so wrongheaded. IP law will not protect you when it's always the richer culture producer who can gird up with lawyers to defend that your works are derivative enough to be considered theirs not yours.
Like yes talk about injustices and bad usage as they exist but it's not a problem with ai. Same shit can be said about using Photoshop or something come on now
#ai discourse#any argument thats about protecting the sanctity of real art is a step towards regressive notions about what art is thats centuries old#if we want to protect labour rights and prtect compensation for those who deserve it say that#like yes we should be against execs wanting to replace background actors and cover artists#but same shit happened with photoshop and canva and cgi#there are more specific discussions to be had and ai is literally just a tool like any other
