People I need advice. I have lots of old shirts and other clothes and I don't want to just throw them away.
I usually just cut them up and make them into rags, but you can't do that with every piece of clothing and I have random burst of motivation to do something so any ideas?
Rn I can only saw by hand, but I'm pretty decent at it... I think...
#idk#random motivation#i have no idea how to tag this post#diy?#what do I do with scrap fabric#I give up I don't know how tags work#my post

I had exactly enough purple scraps left from the starry purple quilt to make a baby quilt! Well, the quilt top isn't exactly done yet, but pretty close, just one more round of ironing and sewing left
#sewing#quilting#quilting wip#scrappy purple baby quilt#what am I going to do with this? I do not know#but it is fabric out of my scrap pile#scrap management#it's not all wild scrap patchwork and crumb quilting!#sometimes it's pretty purple baby quilts#sometimes I am...concerned by the amount of scraps of fabric and batting I generate#and by my own unwillingness to throw them away (it feels wasteful!)#so I am always happy to use the scraps for stuff#like the basket yesterday! and this quilt today!#I might spend a few more days on scrap management and finishing off quilt tops#so I can get them out of my crafting space

Using a salvaged jar of paint and the brush from a nail polish to refurbish the logo on this INCREDIBLE old shirt that I thrifted.
[ID: A green t-shirt with a white wind turbine printed on it. Around the turbine is written, "Renewable energy? I'm a big fan!" End ID.]
#solarpunk#diy#still debating what to do with this#I could wear it as a shirt but I truly never wear colors like this that show sweat.#it would be a GORGEOUS backpatch for my vest#and then the rest of the shirt would be scrap fabric for mending#or possibly part of the Scrap Hodgepodge Shorts that live in my brain

I have some thoughts about why some of veilguard’s writing is the way it is and it comes down to development hell and corporate meddling which is perhaps too generous for some problems but also feels right for a Lot of the things I think
Thoughts in the tags
#veilguard critical#basically it boils down to two ideas#1- this game is the stitched together scraps of an mmo#and 2- ea really wanted this to be mass effect with a dragon age skin#thoughts for 1 - the simplified and repetitive writing just fits better for a game#that has you spending hours grinding with your friends#learning lots of vocab and worldbuilding doesn’t make the gameplay loop fun for gamers you’re trying to pull from other live services#that game would not have been for da fans but for trying to grab literally anyone playing a live service#so you get lots of reminders about what things are and why they matter#with little depth because the game doesn’t need that for the main loop to work#also ea doesn’t value the writing team so there’s that#for 2 - this game is very much taking its plot beats from me2 and to an extent me3#which i actually like to an extent#but the collectors/reapers don’t have the same goals as solas#so just transferring that plot doesn’t actually work#it does for elgy and ghilly but not solas#also uh the darkspawn are the me3 reapers#I can’t unsee it#they’re just red instead of blue#ea doesn’t like or know what to do with dragon age#so they push making it a medieval mass effect because they know mass effect does well#hence the plot the mobs and to an extent the dialogue#anyway this game feels like three different ones had to get stitched together with fabric glue#just good enough to run a red carpet and not fall apart#and yeah it looks cool and it’s fun to wear#but if you start picking at the seams it’s gonna come apart#I love this game for what it is#but I also mourn what it might have been if they’d been allowed to make a single player dragon age game without meddling#bioware as a studio has its issues#but a lot of this feels like Corporate Nonsense issues

his outfit is (pretty much) done!! he looks so cute 🥺🥺
#i had to extend the waist on the pants so it looks a little weird in the back but it's fiiiine#and i was able to do a pretty good job with the detailing! they've got the same knee seams#and the texturing i just did by cutting and then restitching with a zig zag#and then taking some little fabric scraps and affixing them with gray top thread#so obviously it's not going to look exactly the same but it gets the idea across!#now to start on the outfit for my linabell ehe#what do you have to say doll?

slowly. but surely. cleaning out. my fucking room.
#theres just. a lot of stuff 😭😭😭😭#part of it is simply furniture and organising (i lost a bookshelf in the move and im realising#that if i still had it/one then a lot of stuff wouldnt be on the ground)#but. a not insignificant part i simply need to get rid of#if it were easy as throwing it away thats one thing...#but like. eg. i have so so much fabric. i cant throw that shit out but what do i do with it??? 😭😭😭😭#and so so much yarn...#which im already trying to use up but all thats done is having me leave half done projects lying around💀#kind of accepted i probably wont be making paper again so getting rid of a lot of paper scraps#might repurpose the box id been using to store the papermaking stuff...#there is just a LOT#but even cleaning/tidying small parts is good... oughhhh#you might wonder. what finally brought u to actually starting to clean.#the answer is. have been killing roaches#so one. too many fucking places for them to hide#two. my dad was planning on fumigating and its probably better to have a room thats easier to move things around#also re things like fabric like i KNOW theres options eg donating. selling. fabric swap or whatever#but thats EFFORT to actually set up 💀#anyways discovering brand new places i didnt know existed on fb marketplace

What's the worst reason you had to reset?
"..."
"I HATE HOTLAND."
#undertale: scattered extension#UTSE#papyrus / scraps (UTSE)#papyrus#ic ask#ask#anonymous#okay so context:#dying is. probably the most likely way *anyone* would find out they have reset powers#it's also canonically how flowey first found out about his reset powers. so i'm gonna go with the same for paps!#however. flowey's first death was a suicide attempt#papyrus. would not do that. At All. i cannot see it#so instead. i'm thinking. his first death happened much quicker than flowey's did#papyrus was revived inside chara's lab in hotland. and well. with hotland's powerful air vents everywhere#and papyrus being a) not super used to floating around yet; and b) not used to being as light as fabric#and the lake of magma below the walkways all throughout hotland#that all sets up the unfortunate possibility of the highly unpleasant experience of getting blown off course#and sent tumbling down into magma </3#and thus. a very very horrible reason to have to reset </3#and a very very valid reason to hate hotland even more than he already did#though i'm not *100%* set on it happening? or i guess it's just more *when* it happens that i'm indecisive on#but regardless! that's what this is referencing

I've been really inspired by the visible mending ideas on @wastelesscrafts page, and decided to give it a shot on my cat-scratched couch.
Details on the process below the image description for anyone interested.
[Image ID: Three pictures of the back right corner of an olive green suede couch, each image from a slightly different angle. There is a hole in the fabric just below the back of the armrest, roughly the size and shape of the sole of a shoe. The hole has been patched with a cream-colored fabric with a thick, textured weave. The surrounding area of the couch has loose threads from cat scratches. End Image ID.]
This corner of the couch is their absolute favorite scratching spot, and they made a hole down to the wood that was bigger than my hand. I didn't bother making the edges pretty because I expect that they'll have this destroyed soon too, though I'm considering adding vines & flowers if it holds up well over the next month or so.
I used scrap upholstery fabric in a color I thought looked nice, and embroidery floss (3 strands, not 6, too hard to get through fabric) that matched the couch. I would list what stitches I used but honestly there was absolutely no method to the madness. Some combination of determination and desperation seemed to do the trick though.
Even with thimbles this was murder. The thick fabrics + the upholstery padding made this really tough, I wouldn't recommend this if you have issues with finger mobility, strength, or sensitivity.
Funky project, would spend a day on it again, but only after my fingers heal.

I woke up in a cold sweat yesterday morning, scared I'd not have enough patches for the bad idea/patchwork/leftovers dress.
Then I counted my squares, realized my extreme reusing of cutoffs had me in a nice and cozy spot and descended into a haze of mindless sewing until I got here.

I put new cones on my overlocker when I started this project. The only other one I did was 4-yo nephew's knight coat. I may have trust issues when it comes to patchwork fraying with wear, and foundation piecing is not gonna lay them to rest.

I just finished panel 10 out of 14.
I can't feel my right wrist or upper spine.
This thing still needs a hem finish and it might have to be binding or a hem facing, because none of it will take kindly to turning over.
I wanted to have this done by Tuesday evening.
I desperately need a pep talk that I can finish this.
#trust issues dress#sewing#patchwork#stash busting#scraps#not showing a picture of the insides#that is between me and the sewing gods#I'm top stitching these overlocked pieces that were sewed down onto foundation fabric#it's fine I'm fine everything is gonna be fine#I've asked three people so far what they'd do to hem this#and two of them have no answer but admire the problem#there is bobbin chicken and then there is overlocker chicken#i got that fifth bobbin in case I run out of sewing thread#and I'm using non-matching bobbin thread in case I run out of thread#I'm probably gonna run out of thread on panel 11 or 12#it's not an exact match but hey ho#it feels like 10 trapezoid summer quilts sewn together#I'm either gonna be very warm or very protected from the sun in this#possibly both#not pictured: the finished bodice hanging out in my closet#running out of steam

Scrap management! This is all the little scraps from the pride quilt; I do have slightly bigger scraps but I think I’ll use those for something else?
What color or pattern of fabric do you think I could use as a backing fabric for a quilt made with these blocks?
#sewing#scrap management#quilting#I would square up the blocks first#…rectangle up? idk the verb for that#and maybe do a border of stripes of these fabrics#but idk what background fabric could possibly work with this

Going on yet another rant about “merch”
If you did not screen print that shirt yourself, you did not make it.
You made the design on it, which I’m sure would be a nice poster or sticker perhaps? Which of course you didn't print yourself, that sounds hard! An embroidered design? Maintaining a 12 needle embroidery machine capable of producing a design with that many colors for the number of orders being received is a lot of work, that's pretty impressive! Not to mention maintaining proper tension on the frame working with a hundred stretchy t shirts, which idk came from somewhere who knows! Your repeating pattern looks very nice on a skirt that you did not make and was mass produced by some Vietnamese person getting paid pennies so that ~50 gay people on the internet could pay for international shipping for a design you “made”. Wow that mug is awesome didn’t know you got into sublimation printing! And have a cylindrical heat press to be able to do not just mugs, but tumblers too! Woah your sublimation set up can do bed sheets (any size)? And shower curtains? And three different shapes of throw pillow stuffed with poly fill, which will never decompose and isn't comfortable to begin with?
Your poorly digitized vector art looks lovely as an enamel pin now that someone else (Who? More like who cares!) cleaned it up for you and then created moulds for and maybe even hand injected the enamel into only for you to sell maybe seven or eight of them. Aw damn your design got ripped off? Who could have guessed that with the distribution power of an entire manufacturing plafffnt that has hundreds, if not thousands of moulds sitting around that they might have used your mould to make themselves a profit for a change! Those money grubbing Chinese bastards! After all, you were there every step of the way, casting the negative of the mould, running the injection of liquid metal into that mould, mixing each color of enamel, and precisely filling each segment of the design, which you refused to simplify! You just can't compromise with art.
Ohhh I see they’re made to order so its more sustainable. So this factory (Guatemala? India? The Philippines? Pakistan? Could you point to it on a map? They just don't teach you this stuff in school!) Anyways this factory in some poor country has to keep your design on file, oh and for your enamel pins they have to keep the mould too! Ahh right but it’s sustainable, because it's a limited run. You’re the 100th person this week to place an order, and they're only printing 50 of your design, you should complain to the manufacturer about how slow your orders are being filled.
I love supporting small businesses - it’s just you after all! With all the hard work you’ve put into fiddling around in procreate who has time to figure out material acquisition, and production runs, and printer calibration, and inventory management, and machine maintenance, and payment processing, and international shipping, and packaging, and
#eaii#accidentally clicked on someones redbubble and they call it that because i started seeing red#i'm so fucking sick of this shit#look i think its great that people have more avenues to sell their art#but idk i feel like i'm crazy for thinking that should actually involve MAKING the art that they sell#the upfront investment is prohibitive I get it#but then connect with someone#preferably who lives on the same continent as you#to produce it locally#and like. a printer capable of printing nice stickers and posters is not like heavy duty machinery#again#expensive - sure#but i can almost guarantee that someone living in your city has a wide format printer they'd be willing to let you use#i make custom embroidered patches#im in the middle of building my own embroidery machine. obviously you do not have to do this#the machines that i use currently i borrow time on from someone else#'where do you get cute packaging?' i have brown paper envelopes that i decorate with washi tape and stamps which people seem to like#'how do you calculate shipping?' i don't usps does that for me#'what happens if an order gets lost?' it sucks and is inconvenient but i send them another one or refund their choice#'where do you get materials?' scrap fabric almost 100% of the time unless its a very custom order i spend very little on materials#i'm not asking anyone to reinvent payment services or whatever like if you want to use your neighbors printer and then sell those on etsy#great! thats what i do!#(and also fuck etsy - for different reasons)#but if you outsource the actual labor of producing the good that you are selling to easily exploitable people on the other side of the worl#im judging you. hard.

thinking about fashion and twst again
#the amount of times i have had to describe malleus ultimately to scrap it. god#anyway why the fuck do they dress him like that#everything is so... rigid#give him something flowy. dramatic. lighter fabric and layers. sparkles.#put that man in a gown. cowards#...does anyone want to hear about specific designs#some gowns (and collections as a whole) really encapsulate what i wish they would put malleus in

was full-on hysterically screaming and sobbing for about an hour earlier because i've been severely depressed lately but then i downloaded a pattern from etsy and made a little rat friend out of fabric scraps so that helped a little
#i named him renfield because i was watching dracula while i was making him#the fabric scraps are from the pajama set i made for one of my sewing classes so he matches with it#i'm wearing the pajamas now with him in my lap :)#he's not perfect but i made him and he made me feel a little better than i've been feeling so that's nice#what do you have to say doll?
