Tap, scrape, tap, scrape, came a sound from above him and Gale jerked in fear, sinking further onto the floor, jeans crunching against the rough carpet. Tap, scrape, tap. It didn’t sound like the soft pad of a finger or even a knuckle, the sound had a crispness to it that suggested it was made by something small and very hard. Tap, scrape, tap, tap. Gale wrapped his arms around his head and risked a glance upwards to check that the curtains were closed. They were polyester, filmy, glowing white in the light of the street lamp but pulled tightly shut. That was when Gale noticed his mistake. Between the lower hem and the wall there was a sliver of exposed window through which Gale could make out the crescent moon of a single, sparkling eye.
“Hey,” the thing said from the other side of the window and Gale held his breath. “You in there?"

Every day. Every damn day I question why THIS is the way they established MK's Monkey Demon Form/Identity. He's flickering, shards are coming off of him (shattered sense of identity), he seems to be in pain, and he radiates so much power. Overall it gives the impression that he's fighting this form off, trying to maintain his humanity/the current status quo.
And I'm just sitting here waiting for his current negative character arc to go down FURTHER
