question: who is your favourite scooby doo character and why?

in a similar vein to my how did you get into scooby doo post from last month, i'm now interested in hearing who your favourite character from the franchise is! are they a member of the core gang or a side character? which iteration/version of theirs do you like best? do you have any specific memories associated with them? do they mean a lot to you personally, or do you just think they're neat? it's time to gush about them in the tags/replies!!

#if you don't know me: hi i'm nem and when the scooby doo hyperfixation beam hit me back in 2021 i was cursed to forever think about #fred jones more than everyone else on the planet combined #i just think the evolution of his character is so fascinating #especially in the way that they made him more engaging by just exaggerating his core traits a whole bunch over time #my favourite iterations of his are mystery inc (for the canon autism and generally how emotionally affecting he is)#and what's new (for just how plain silly and sweet he is)#however now that i've seen the whole show be cool's version of fred is now a firm favourite as well (his focus episodes are amazing!!!)#there's just so much that can be done with him and there's never a dull moment when he gets quality screentime in an episode or movie #he makes me laugh he makes me cry and through relating so much to his character he essentially tricked me into loving myself #i grew up with undiagnosed autism and struggled with self-hatred for things like my intense interests/social struggles/hyperempathy #things that i now know are just. fundamental parts of me and the way my brain is #so seeing fred be his unapologetic autistic self (canon in mystery inc/coded in everything else) made me feel less alone & gave me hope #which eventually led me to seek out & obtain my formal diagnosis at 17 and generally just feel so much more secure in who i am #so yeah!!!! this silly goofy cartoon character means a whole lot to me and i'm glad to have a place to express that :)#i look forward to seeing everyone's responses to this question!!!#scooby doo

I think the frustrating thing about Spotify recommendations is sometimes it really does introduce me to lots of cool Indie Bands that I really vibe with and allow me to try some new stuff and sometimes it keeps telling me that I need to Listen to Mother Mother (I have not listened to Mother Mother ever and at this point I never will because it is a pride thing.)

Or a random unfunny tiktok joke song from 3 years ago/ a viral YouTube song from over a decade ago.

#simon says #will probably delete this later #but yeah my recommendations are all mother mother and my spotify weekly is a mix between sweet ass new bands and unfunny bad joke songs #my spotify weekly has Cherry Bomb by the Runaways which is a good recommendation and then the Creative Song from don't hug me im scared #which is a bad recommendation to be clear #i know I have a couple of odd songs from things like shows or cartoon bumpers in my playlist (i got whats new scooby doo on there)#but that doesn't mean that I need to be recommended fuckin Death By Glamour??#like there's no videogame soundtracks in my playlist why the fuck is that there #If I wanna listen to Undertale music I would just listen to the vinyls I own!!#anyways this is just a vent against spotify #my weekly seems to have a LOT more indie stuff so imma check it out real fast #i want to discover more music because I do eventually want to just swap to mp3s and an mp3 player instead of spotify #that is one thing I like about Spotify the most is that it helps me find more bands that I like #but I could probably find stuff via looking up youtube playlists as well #so it's not worth paying for anymore #I asked for an mp3 player for Christmas so hopefully I get one and I can just start using that instead #i miss my mp3 these last 7 years without it have sucked I miss my designated music device #anyways dont have to worry about going ad free if you just have the digital files on your computer and put them directly in a player #😎👍

so recently i decided to roll the 'what will my human!pericles look like This Time' roulette again, only this time in color for once! it's always itched at me how his design looks like a totally different person before and after the timeskip, having been through the wringer aside, so i thought i'd take a shot at combining my interpretation of the two. (the creators pretty obviously took cues from his voice actor for his present-day design, and it's been fun to draw on that too while still keeping the design my own.)

i mostly like how it's turned out, as far into it as i managed to get before i had to take a break and my executive function stalled out; i kept putting off posting it, meaning to come back and finish it later, but i finally decided to go ah fuck it i'd rather it be out there unfinished than disappear into my sketch folder forever. or get fucked up by my trying to continue it while Not in the Groove, especially given how difficult the painting tools i've got available are to wrangle with. Sometimes You Just Gotta Call It

there's a lot of things i'm eyeing to hammer out more next time--i can never seem to figure out what the hell to do with his hair, for one; for another they did a great job at getting across 'babyface that has become aged/haggard' with his designs, and that balance can be difficult to nail when the art app i use really brings out the Everyone is Soft and Babyface in my artstyle. it's a real bastard, but i liked drawing him with this brush a lot and i'm looking forward to working it out more if i can.

i've gotten dropped into the DC franchise (primarily a handful of animated series) pretty hard, and i just fucking said to my self "god, i think nearly every portrayal of Barry Allen is great, he's literally such a great guy-" and then remembered that the character is currently being played in Cinema by a misogynist with kidnapping allegations

i like regular show but i don't watch it very often mainly just because i just don't watch a lot of tv when im by myself but i love watching it w my friends on the rare occasion we actually get together irl. a few months ago when we finished our dnd campaign we all got together at my bestie and her fiancé (also one of my best friends) 's place and they just had regular show on already, and they're like oh yeah we just had this on you guys can watch whatever (they were cooking dinner) but we all just sat there watching it like it was cocomelon

#it's good alone but it's better with friends #my posts #big fan of adult-cartoon-adjacent kids cartoons #having limitations on what you can say and how you can say it often forces you to be funnier #and writing with an adult audience in mind also means you can't just rely on [box of things kids find funny]#this combo i think is why regular show spongebob dan vs be cool scooby doo are so funny #there are def some good adult cartoons that can balance well written comedy and raunchy humor but it just requires more self control #which is reminding me i still haven't watched s2 of tuca and bertie aughhhh

Ok so basically I think Daphne Blake (of Scooby Doo fame) should have a minor in fashion design and a major in Law. She's studying to be an attorney

#rando thoughtz #this is from an in depth convo with my friends (one being a fellow scooby enjoyer) abt how we would approach a modern scooby doo reboot #and were like. 1) lets make them college students thats way better than having them be high school students #and we're like well of course Daphne would study fashion #but my brain was like ''ok. so shes klavier g core what if . she studied law''#if he can be a rockstar and a prosecutor SHE can be a fashion designer and attorney. both at the same time #i know this makes her v similar to elle woods and i would not be lying that i was thinking of her during this moment #but the key differences between them are deffo there #like for one daphne is doing both law and fashion (and didnt rlly need convincing to go for law she was already into it from the start)#and other thing daphne is more jock in comparison she is A Biker and very athletic. she does martial arts #AND third which i think is most important is that daphne is more of a mean girl #BUT I NEED TO BE SPECIFIC ON THIS #elle tends to be much more nice and kind even when shes playing dumb #Daphne does not do that #shes a lot more visibly assertive and tends to snap at ppl if she feels its right to #and when she plays dumb she's more goading abt it like #shes not like ''oh! haha is this low viscosity rayon? And top loop stitching?''#NO daphne is like Daphne is ''Low viscosity nylon? I won't accept anything less. one issue i have w sdmi is that they only seem to utilize the characters’ emotions for plot points and don’t actually expand on them realistically? like they’ll be entirely apathetic to a previous event that should have been extremely traumatizing but react emotionally to another? it’s just really inconsistent - if they wanted to handle deeper emotions they wouldn’t have cherry picked convenient scenes for there to be serious turmoil and others where there’s none. it’s just frustrating

#oh boy our world is destroyed everything we knew before is completely gone i saw my friends and family die let’s go to college now :D #i’d like to have seen some insight into how they felt after nibiru but #nothing #can we talk about how fred saw all 3 of his only parental figures die to this cosmic alien guy?? hello. what.#and then he just sees them alive and well but barely anything like he remembered #ahhhhhh #scooby doo #sdmi #mystery inc #mystery incorporated #mystery gang #scooby gang #honestly i would’ve been cool with it if the show wasn’t purposefully taking a darker tone #like a kids show with not a lot of emotion talk? yeah that’s fine #but the inconsistency in how they portray emotions really bothers me idk
