Platonic Dark! Prince x Child Reader
Tumblr media
𝕿he people saw him as a monster because of the fact that he has pale skin and white hair. He also can't see well due to his purple irises.
But no one dared to call him a 'monster', but instead, he was nicknamed 'the strange'.
Prince Gwyn doesn't like to indulge himself in balls, even though he is the crown prince.
Instead, he likes to stay in his chamber all day, avoiding the eyes of many onlookers.
Gwyn loves to read many books; he finds comfort in learning, especially if they are books about mysticism.
One day, the twenty-year-old prince was sitting on his windowsill reading a book.
The weather is not sunny, which is perfect for him to also enjoy the sight of the outside world for a while.
Yet, the sight of the servants caught his eyes.
Down in the garden, two female servants are placing the clothes on the drying line.
What caught his attention is the small child running around the garden joyfully.
This small child is you, a servant's daughter probably.
You suddenly stop and look up at him.
Gwyn expected to see you scream and run away upon seeing his appearance, but instead, you smiled and waved at him.
He wanted to wave back at you, but you runaway to go and speak with your mother.
A child? This is the first time he sees a child in his life.
He continued to observe you from his window as you played outside, and he was intrigued by your innocence and joy.
Gwyn couldn't help but smile to himself, feeling a sense of warmth and connection to the child despite you being a stranger.
The prince wants you to be his platonic companion.
°°°
Gwyn had never felt this way towards anyone before. It was a new and unfamiliar feeling, but he found himself wanting more.
Maybe if he clears up his mind, he can forget about you.
He put down his book and decided to take a walk around the palace grounds after midnight, like he usually does when everyone sleeps.
Except for the guards who are always on the watch.
While walking through the castle, he finds a small figure sneaking around.
So, the prince decides to follow the figure, believing that it is you.
Gwyn cautiously approached the small figure, careful not to frighten them. As he got closer, he saw that it was indeed you.
You went to the kitchen and he followed inside after you, noticing that you were eating food.
He sighed in relief, realizing that you were the only person in the castle who didn't seem afraid of him.
"So, it's you," he said, his voice tinged with a hint of amusement. "I take it you don't follow the rules?"
You looked at him in surprise, your eyes wide with curiosity. "What rules?" you asked.
Gwyn chuckled, amused by your innocence. "The rules that say we can't be out after midnight," he explained. "But I see that doesn't bother you."
You giggled, your small hands covering your mouth.
"No, it doesn't," you said.
"I come out here all the time to eat."
Gwyn nodded, acknowledging the fact that you probably didn't have much to eat during the day.
It made sense; you were a servant's child, after all.
He took a step closer to you, noticing that you were quite short in height.
"What's your name, child?" he asked softly, his eyes fixed on you.
You hesitated for a moment before answering, your mind trying to process the situation.
"My name is (Y/n), Sir Angel" you replied cheerfully.
"Sir Angel?"
Gwyn inquires, surprised at your nickname for him.
"Yes, because you are beautiful like an angel"
Your words was enough to make him finally burst into tears.
People always saw him as a cursed monster, but here you, a child, calling him an 'Angel'
"That's such a sweet thing to say," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "But I'm not an angel. I'm what they call a 'monster.'"
He sighed heavily, feeling the weight of his words, as gets down on his knees.
Gwyn paused for a moment, looking at you with a mix of sadness and hope in his eyes.
"But you, you accept me for who I am. You don't care about my appearance or my curse. You just see me as a person."
He smiled warmly at you, grateful for your kindness and understanding.
You pat his head, curious to touch his hair, your fingers touching his strands.
Gwyn thought you were comforting him, but in reality, you just liked his hair color.
"Would you like to be my companion?"
Your eyes brighten up in happiness.
"Does that mean mommy can come too"
Gwyn's mood sours at the mention of your mother, and smiles bitterly about someone sharing you with him.
"Yes...she can"
°°°
The prince murdered your mother in cold blood right in front of your eyes, and hid the evidence in the same garden you used to play in when you were younger.
Now, at fifteen, you stand, in front of your mother's grave weeping.
Weeping for the fact that you are now a prisoner, with no way out of this castle.
The prince did indeed look angelic on the outside.
But, he truly was a monster all along.

It Was Enchanting to Meet You
Lord Debling x Fem reader
Tumblr media
Lord Alfred Debling x female Bridgerton reader
Synopsis - You’re the second eldest Bridgerton daughter, being forced by your brother to finally debut. You believed the ordeal would be terrible, that was until you meet the handsome Lord Debling, the handsome stranger soon captivates your mind and heart.
Warnings- fluff, period drama, feelings, very small amount of angst, confessions, great sibling relationships, suggestive themes but no smut. Still 18+ though please.
Word count- 4.7K
Today was the day, the day you were coming out into society, you’d put it off long enough. Being that you were only a year younger than your elder sister Daphne, and a year older than Eloise who were both already out. But your mother hadn’t pushed you and for that you were thankful, your eldest sibling Anthony though was another story. He had all but told you enough was a enough, and even though he would not ever force you to take a husband, you needed to be out in society despite your disagreement with it.
He did not want the great Bridgerton name tarnished, with people starting to talk of the strange girl in the family who did not conform to society’s norm, who did not like social situations, a girl who spent her time fencing, reading and horseback riding. You were a free spirit, one who preferred the wind in her hair, rather than constricted dresses, dancing and polite conversation.
So now just having turned 20 you were being launched into the world around you. This brings you back to today, your mother was flapping making sure both you and Francesca looked perfect, creamy white gowns adorning your bodies, lace perfectly placed, your dress was accentuated with gold floral embroidery and tiny puff sleeves. You adjusted your long white gloves once more before exiting your room, “Ah y/n there you are my love, have you seen your sister I can’t find her anywhere, she is not in her room!” Your mother Violet frets, she’s looking pale and exhausted. “Calm down mother, I’m sure she is about, I can hear music are you sure you haven’t checked it is not her playing?” You ask.
“Oh! No I have not, come, we shall go check together.” She replies, gently grasping your wrist and tugging you down the staircase In search of your sister, you are sure she only holds onto you so she cannot loose you too.
Walking into the drawing room you find it was indeed Francesca playing the piano forte, your mother breathing a big sigh of relief, she is also dressed ready to go. “Well then my children let’s get going shall we?” She asks as she ushers us all out to the carriages, turning to you and Francesca she says “You both look so beautiful!” Voice full of emotion. “Thank you mother” you both say in unison, she nods before you all enter the carriage and head off to the queens palace.
The whole thing went by in a blur, you walked down the aisle, bowed to the queen then exited out to the side, you’d all entered out into a garden party where people were mingling happily. Your brother Colin who had just returned from travels, was boasting to the young ladies, causing them to fawn over him. Penelope Featherington sadly watching from the sidelines, you were very aware of how she felt for your brother, being the same age you had spent many moments together. Although you wouldn’t call her a close friend, it saddened you to see her aways watching him with such hopeful but sad eyes.
You decided she could do with a distraction so you made your way over to her, “Hey Pen, how are you? I haven’t seen you about the house recently?” You ask, she jumps, obviously you’d caught her very much deep in thought. “My goodness y/n you scared me” she gasps hand on her chest, “Sorry Pen, we were both on our own so I thought I’d come talk with you” you explain. Her face softens then “Of course, you can always come talk to me, I know how hard this must all be for you” she replies her face now sympathetic. “Yes, I do so hate public attention, but alas my brother thought it was necessary” you sigh, nodding Penelope gave you a look of understanding, “We must all be pushed out into society sooner or later, I was just 17 when my mother decided I needed to be out. And look over three years later and I’m still just sat here with no suitor prospects, I wish I could find a husband” she groans, “What? Why? You’ve never seemed too interested before?” You ask.
With a sigh she turns to you “In all honesty I need my privacy, and I just cannot stand living with my family any longer, at least your family is supportive and kind, mine can be just awful” she complains. You nod, you understand, her family have always been difficult especially her mother! “Well then Pen I hope you find a kind, loyal man to be your husband this season, you deserve some happiness” you tell her in earnest. “Thank you y/n, you do too, whatever that is for you, you deserve happiness too” she says as she walks off, leaving you once more to your thoughts.
Would you find happiness? What was happiness to you anyways?
________________________________________
That evening you were attending your very first ball, nerves settled deep within your stomach. There would be many people attending Lady Danbury’s ball, and you were hoping to quietly blend into the crowds, not causing any reason to warrant any unwanted attention. Anthony had insisted on you being present, he had also given you a list of people he had chosen for your to converse with.
Your dress though, that you had chosen for yourself, it was a deep maroon, corseted down to your waist, it then flared out into a subtle A line ballgown. It had thick off the shoulders straps, sparkling embroidery and a skirt that swished as you moved. You wanted something that felt more freeing, compared to the tight empire line gowns that were the norm. Giving yourself a last once over you sighed, although you looked like a princess, you felt absolutely ridiculous.
Entering the party was as equally nerve wrecking as bowing to the queen this morning, walking down the steps after your brothers and sisters you felt all eyes shift to you, you held your head hire and floated down with all the grace you could muster, it must have worked because once you’d reached the bottom all eyes were still glued to you. Your mother came rushing to meet you, “You did well, you entered as gracefully as a swan” she gushed, you rolled your eyes at her enthusiasm, “Well mother my plan is to not cause any unwanted attention, I don’t want them thinking I am some wild animal that cannot be tamed” you sassed back. Tutting she guided you through the crowds to meet some new people, what you hadn’t noticed though, were a pair of very entranced blue eyes belonging to the one Lord Alfred Debling watching your entrance.
“Who is she?” Lord Debling asked Lady Danbury, “That would be Miss Y/N Bridgerton, second eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family” Lady Danbury answered. “I see” he replies eyes still watching you intently, Lady Danbury smirks knowingly, “I may also add, she only debuted this morning so from what I gather she is very much on the market, so to speak” she smiled. “Is that so?” He asks eyes still enchanted by you. The pair hadn’t noticed Cressida Cowper Joining them, not until she spoke up causing them to both jump slightly, “I’ve heard she’s a strange girl” she abruptly interrupts, “And where have you heard that Miss Cowper?” Asks Lady Danbury, her voice full of exasperation.
“Well I’ve heard she prefers the outdoors over social gatherings, she rides her horse bareback at some speed I may add, I’ve seen it myself. When I’ve called on Eloise this summer she’s either sprinting through the country on her horse or she has her nose in some weird book” she explains amusedly. “I don’t see how that makes her strange, but rather it makes her unique” Lord Debling affirms, “Well also” Cressida stutters out trying to find something more vexing to say about you, “Ah she also fences, she sword fights with her brothers, isn’t it incredibly odd, incorrect even for a young lady to sword fight?” She points out. “I dare say! Does she really?” He asks Lady Danbury, “Yes I believe she does” Danbury replies, the smug look is soon wiped off Cressida’s face though when he turns back to Lady Danbury, “That is incredibly impressive, what a young lady she is! I will go introduce myself” and with that he leaves in search of you.
He finds you over by the drinks helping yourself to one before retreating to the corner, “Miss Bridgerton? Are you quite alright? You appear to be hiding in the corner” he asks. You bow quickly “Lord Debling, I’m quite well thank you, just not one for large social gathering's” you answer honestly. “Ah, no me either actually, I prefer to be outdoors” he responds. You smile up at him shyly “I do too” you agree, “Riding Percy gives me much more joy than this” you continue, choking on his drink Lord Debling gasps “I beg your pardon you what?”, “Percy, he’s my horse, a Suffolk punch, my brother Anthony bought him for me for my birthday a few years back, I most enjoy riding him through the countryside, where it’s nice and quiet” you explain,
“Oh of course, I heard from Lady Danbury that you enjoy riding, he conveys, cheeks bright red now from his misunderstanding. “Lady Danbury spoke of me? To you?” You ask confused, “Umm yes, I happened to ask after you” he admits, you offer him a smile “I see and what else did she happen to say about me?” You question teasingly causing him to smirk, “Nothing much else, just that this was your first season” he stutters out now feeling very put on the spot, “Oh yes well I put it off as long as I possibly could, but my brother is forcing me to try this year” you confirm, “Is it so very bad?” He asks, teasing smile on his lips, “Well maybe not as bad as I had made it out to be in my head” you admit.
“Well then, would you care to dance?” He offers, hand outstretched towards you. “Yeah ok, why not, in the name of trying new things of course” you smile, “Of course” he repeats, clearly amused by you. He walks you out to the dance floor as everyone lines up, ready for the dance to begin. As the music plays he spins you around the dance floor, your eyes never leaving one another’s, its almost as if there’s static energy between you, your hearts pounding in your chest, you can tell everyone is watching you both, but in that moment all you can see is him.
“Is that your daughter Violet, dancing with Lord Debling?” One of the mothers asks, “Yes” your mother laughs, “I dare say it is” her face is lit up at the way your both staring at each other, thoughts of Daphne and Simon’s first dance entering her mind. This looked very promising, she thought you’d be the hardest to convince to give this whole ordeal a try, but you were entranced by the man before you, and it was Francesca who had made a rather hastily exit home already.
Lady Danbury joins your mother, “He asked about her you know, the second she entered the room” she tells your mother, knowing smirk still plastered on her face, “Did he?” Your mother asks, “Yes, he seemed very much intrigued by her, maybe we’ve made a match already” she implies, “Maybe…….. I will speak to my daughter once we are home” you mother decides. Nodding in agreement Lady Danbury takes her leave.
Once your dance comes to an end you bow and move to walk away, thinking he would have other young ladies to dance with, a soft grip of your hand causes you to turn, coming face to face with Lord Debling once more, “May I call on your tomorrow?” He asks, “Yes you may” you give a curt nod before leaving with your family.
This night had gone much better than expected, you thought to yourself whilst laying in bed, you felt excited to see what else was to come.
________________________________________
The next day you’d woken up early, to get yourself dressed for your sword fighting lesson, hoping you’d have time to freshen up before anyone had any callers, you smile to yourself at the thought of seeing Lord Debling again today. Bounding down the stairs you met your instructor Henry, “Good morning Miss Bridgerton, are you ready?” He asks, “Yes I am” you affirm, “Very good, although I don’t see how you need any more lessons now, I’ve taught you everything I know, and you have mastered it all”, you grin “Why thank you Henry, but I can tell you why I need my lessons” you reply, “And why is that Miss Bridgerton?” He asks, “Because I enjoy them” you laugh as you get into position.
Your two eldest brothers had joined you now, you were currently practicing against Benedict, completely loosing track of time. “Why do you encourage this Anthony?” Your mother asks, “Well dear mother I think it’s good that a lady knows how to defend herself, no one will ever mess with our little y/n now will they?” He questions playfully, rolling her eyes she waves him off as she leaves the room.
“Ha! I win again! Really Benedict are you even trying?” You goad, sweaty and exhausted he gives you the are you kidding look, “Yes dear sister unfortunately I am!” He grumbles, Anthony snorts out a laugh “Well I dare say these lessons are paying off, you have quite the talent” he praises you, “Thank you brother” you smile. Just then one of your maids enter the room, “Someone’s here to see you Miss” she announces, realisation hits you! Oh no Lord Debling has arrived and your still in your fencing clothes.
Walking in he smiles at you, you bow nervously before rambling out, “I’m very sorry I lost track of time my lord, please excuse me for a moment while I go change”, “Nonsense don’t worry about it, I’d love to see you in action” he answers, “Really!?” You ask surprised, he nods in response, you look to Anthony motioning for him to come join you, but he puts his hands up in surrender, “Oh no, watching Benedict loose all credibility was quite enough for one day, I will go find my wife, as I promised her a walk this morning.” He replies, “I’ll spar with you” Lord Debling offers, “Oh I couldn’t ask that of you my Lord” you hastily reply, “You’re not asking, I’m offering” he affirms before removing his jacket and placing on Benedict’s fencing armour.
Anthony lets out a laugh, “Perfect” he announces, before turning to Lord Debling “Don’t let her win, she will know. She is incredibly able” he confirms before leaving to find his wife. “Well are you ready then?” Debling asks you, “Yes, quite ready” you smirk back. As the two of you spar the static energy returns from last night, you fall into an effortless rhythm against one another, he fights well, there is technique and power to his moves, but you are just too quick for him, eventually knocking the sword from his hands and pointing yours to his chest in victory,
“I say! You are rather good at this aren’t you” he laughs, “Yeah I think it’s because I enjoy it so much” you agree.
“You Miss Bridgerton are an incredibly rare flower indeed” he says, “Thanks” you reply warm blush adorning your cheeks, “Will you save me a dance at tonight’s party?” He asks. “Yes of course” you reply maybe a little too hastily, “Well then, until tonight” he offers placing a delicate kiss to your knuckles. Before leaving he looks back towards you once more, giving you the most endearing smile.
You were very much looking forward to seeing him again tonight.
________________________________________
Over the next few weeks the two of you became much more acquainted with one another, you danced together at every party, usually more than once, you took chaperoned strolls together in the park and your family had also invited him over a couple of times for dinner.
You’d learnt much about him, his love for animals and wildlife, the fact he didn’t eat meat, all his adventure and conservation ideas, you’d become completely enamoured with this man, It appeared he also was with you too.
Today you were both taking a stroll in the park, the sun was warm and the smell of blossoms filled the spring air. Your maid was walking a few steps behind you, keeping a watchful eye. “Beautiful day is it not?” You ask him cheerfully, enjoying the sunshine on your skin. “Yes it is, but I can see something much more beautiful” he replies watching you carefully, you turn your head to hide your reddening cheeks. “Will you be attending the garden party tomorrow? I hear there will be a new form of transport being showcased” you ask, “Yes I believe I will be attending” he responds while smiling at you, grinning up at him you offer a nod in response.
“Well I bid you farewell Lord Debling, I have promised to help my mother this afternoon, I will see you tomorrow?” You offer, “Yes I shall see you tomorrow, good afternoon Miss Bridgerton” he replies. You spare him one last glance, before you walk off with your maid.
________________________________________
It was the day of the garden party and you were stood looking at the enormous ballon in awe, was that really supposed to be able to carry people through the sky? “Quite spectacular isn’t it?” Lord Deblings voice cut through your thoughts causing you to jump, “My Lord, you gave me a fright!” You gasped, “I am sorry, that was not my intention” he responds “That’s ok, it is spectacular yes, although I do worry how it’s supposed to transport people” you reply.
“Yes quite, but I suppose only time will tell, are you well Miss Bridgerton?” He asks, “Yes, thank you my Lord I am very well” you affirm, “Good” he nods.
As the afternoon goes on Penelope, Eloise and Cressida join in your conversation, Cressida going out of her way to try and impress Lord Debling, not even caring how desperate and contrary it makes her appear. Penelope spends the whole time staring at Colin and Eloise is pretty much rolling her eyes at everybody’s antics. Cressida continues to laugh at something he said, almost hanging off his arm, causing a pit of jealousy to stir in your stomach.
You turn your attention once again to the large ballon, which is now rocking very unstably in the wind, creaking and groaning as the ropes loosen. Just as they snap your brothers are rushing over to pull them back, using as much strength as they can muster to pull the thing back into place. All you can do is watch in terror as they lose control and the ship comes hurtling towards you, it all happens so quick, one miniute you’re watching terrified, the next you’re on the floor Lord Deblings body shielding you.
“Are you quite alright?” He asks gazing into your eyes, “Yes all thanks to you”. He carefully traces his fingertips down the side of your jaw, you watch him with wide eyes, wanting nothing more than to lean in and kiss him. Someone loudly clears their throat behind you, you both jump apart, turning to see Cressida and Eloise watching you both.
Lord Debling jumps up before offering you a hand up too, “What luck you were there to save my sister, thank you my Lord” Eloise states, “Of course, it was nothing” he replies before walking off.
“What was that y/n?” Eloise gasps, “I hardly know” you reply, completely shocked yourself.
________________________________________
That very evening you arrived at the ball still very much in shock, more so by Lord Deblings behaviour than nearly being squashed by the heavy ballon. Your mother currently had you making small talk with every eligible Lord in the room, “Mother is this really necessary?” You grumbled as you made your way over to yet another man, “Yes my darling daughter it is, until Lord Debling actually proposes you must keep your options open” she insists, “But Anthony said I do not have to marry this season, only that I must be out in society” you ask confused.
“Yes I know my sweet girl, but every year you’re on the market the less desirable you become, now make haste” she commands, you roll your eyes at her as she drags you through the crowd, “Lady Bridgerton, Miss Bridgerton, how nice to see you both” Lord Cambell greets, “Lord Cambell, lovely to see you again” you reply with a very forced smile. “Would you have any space left on your card to include a dance with me?” He asks, you stutter before your mother replies on your behalf, “My daughter would be delighted”, you resentfully offer your wrist and card for him to write his name on, before bowing and leaving to find some corner to hide in.
After no empty corner is found you retreat to the gardens in hope of some peace, leaning against the cold stone of the house you close your eyes, taking a deep breath. “Miss Bridgerton you should not be out here alone” Lord Deblings voice causes you to jump, “My goodness my Lord! Must you always startle me so.” You gasp, “Sorry I never intend too” he replies in earnest, “But you really shouldn’t be out here alone” he repeats as he steps closer, “Yes I know, but I need a minute to breathe, it’s awfully stuffy in there, and my mother is being a nuisance….” You trail off, voice stuttering as he steps closer once more, “By nuisance you mean by parading you around the room, like a prized animal?” He smirks, “Yes” you stammer, feeling more breathless than before if that was at all possible.
He carefully moves a piece of hair from your face, “Do you not wish for the attention of the Lords here tonight Miss Bridgerton?” He asks, “No, not from those ones anyways” you whisper, then in a flash his mouth meets yours, it’s passionate and gentle, it’s fire but also calm. Your fingers grasp his jacket as you pull him in closer, moulding your body to his own, his fingers move from your face to your neck, tilting your face to give him better access. His other hand grasps your thigh as he pulls it over his hip, grounding down into you causing a low whimper from your lips, moving from your mouth he kisses down your neck, nipping at your sweet spot, your hands slide into his hair as you grind into his hips once more.
Your movement causes him to gasp before quickly pulling himself away from you, leaving you a breathless mess. “I shouldn’t have done that” he worries, “My Lord?” You ask confused and worried, “I shouldn’t have put you in that position I am so very sorry” he repeats and your heart sinks, was he going to reject you now? Were you about to loose all credibility? Sensing your despair he quickly comforts you, “What I mean to say is that shouldn’t have happened before I asked for your hand, I do not wish to dishonour you, if you will have me and your brother agrees to it, I would very much like to make you my wife” he confirms, “Really?” You ask.
“Yes really, I am quite enamoured with you my dearest y/n, I came here to the Ton to seek out a wife, I thought I could find a match of convenience, one where I could travel and my wife would happily stay at home managing my estate. I did not think love was in the cards for me, I believed that my work would take up too much space in my heart for that, but then I met you, and my goodness did you change everything” he explains.
“Is this a confession of love my Lord?” You ask still very much breathless.
“It is yes, I didn’t come here to seek it which makes this as much a surprise to me as it is to yourself” he replies.
“I love you too” you admit, which causes his handsome face to light up, “I too did not believe this would happen, when my brother asked me to debut this season, I admit I hated the very idea, but I’m so very glad I did as it lead me to you” You confess.
“Well then my love, I believe I have a question to ask your brother” he replies, his hand seeking to find your own, grasping his with yours you reply “I suppose you do”. He gives you one last kiss on your cheek before heading inside to seek out your brother. You are still stood against the house, breaths still racing as you trace your lips with your fingertips, the tingling of his kisses still present.
Upon entering your home that evening Anthony stops you “Y/N may I speak with you a moment?” He asks, “Yea of course brother what is it?”
“Lord Debling has asked for my permission to propose to you, he says he has the deepest of feelings for you and he wishes you to be his wife, I know him to be a very kind man, one who obviously wouldn’t ever hurt an animal or a woman, he has a great estate and great prospects, so if it’s what you want I will agree to it at once, but I told him I had to talk with my sister first” he explains.
You smile knowing how deeply your family cares for each other, this is something you will never take for granted. “Truth is brother, I love him very much, I didn’t think it were possible to find someone I could fall for so deeply, but here we are” you reply.
“Very well then I shall give him my permission” Anthony affirms. You walk over and give him a chaste kiss to the cheek, “Thank you brother” you respond, he nods giving your shoulder an affectionate squeeze before wandering off.
You were going to be married! Not only that to a man you love, you felt such happiness in that moment your chest could burst.
________________________________________
The next morning whilst reading your maid walked in announcing Lord Debling was here to see you, you nod at her to let him in.
“Hello my love, are you well this morning?” He asks as he enters the room.
“I am quite well my Lord thank you” you smile.
“Please call me Alfred, such formalities feel no longer necessary”
“Very well Alfred, but then you must call me y/n so we are on equal terms” you reply.
He laughs, “Of course, my dearest y/n, so I’m guessing it’s no secret to as why I am here?” He asks.
“Well I have an idea, but I will need you to clarify” you respond with wit.
“Very well Miss y/n Bridgerton” he begins before getting down on one knee, “You have bewitched my heart, and I’m asking if you will do me the extraordinary honour of becoming my wife?”
Walking towards him you kneel down in front of him, reaching out and tracing his stubbled cheek, “Yes Alfred, I will marry you” you gush before moving in and placing your lips against his, in a sweet soft kiss.
Just then all your family enter the room offering congratulations, you thank them all but your eyes never leave his, as you think to yourself yes you believe this will be a very happy marriage indeed.

Pairing: Loki x Female Reader.
Words: 4.412.
Summary: Y/N and Loki are friends. They say they are best friends, but a lot of gossip go around the palace about them, because of how close they are, how they lay together a lot, share drinks, this kind of things couples would do. But in reality, they never did anything, not even kissed.
Warning/Content: smut, friends to lovers.
MASTERLIST
It was a quiet afternoon in the golden palace of Asgard. Y/N and Loki were in his room, in his bed, while Loki was laying with his head on her stomach, while she played with his hair.
“How do you not sleep when I play with your hair?”
Loki shrugs slightly as his mind is split between keep reading the book in his hand and talking to her “I don't know. I just don't.”
Y/N chuckles “I sleep so easily when you play with mine.”
"I wish that I could sleep easily like you," Loki sighs, "but I struggle with it. You just have a soothing touch that puts me at ease. I feel safe around you."
“Good to know.” She smiles, still playing with his hair. Loki puts the book down and looks up at her, smiling as well. “What was the book about?”
"This?" Loki moves the book so she can see the cover, it says 'Romeo and Juliet' on it, and has the pictures of the two characters. "It is about two people whose love was not supported by their families. The lovers ended up dying in the end."
“That’s tragic.”
"Yes, it is sad," Loki replies, "But sometimes love can be like a tragedy. Sometimes people are not supportive of love. Sometimes even family are not supportive of each other. But a tragedy has to have a sad ending. And I will not let our story have a sad ending." He suddenly rolls her on top of him so that she are now laying on her stomach on top of him, her head on his chest. Y/N just smiles.
"But enough about Shakespeare," Loki chuckles and kiss the top of her head, "I rather spend this moment with you."
“Hmm, that’s better.” Y/N looks at him and smiles.
"Much better," Loki murmurs, still holding her close to him and running his hand through her hair. "Much, much better."
“Stop that or I’m gonna sleep in no time.” She laughs softly.
"Then I suppose I should definitely keep doing it." Loki's hand comes through her hair again more slowly this time as he chuckles softly.
“Is my company that boring that you prefer me to be asleep?”
"Your company is wonderful," He answers, "But the feeling of your weight resting on top of me... That's another feeling entirely. And it's one I very much like."
Y/N laughs softly, before she finds a more comfortable position with her head on his neck, her breath hitting his skin. Loki shivers slightly, it makes him feel warm inside.
"That feels nice." He squeezes her a bit tighter, burying his nose into her hair, and enjoying the feeling of having Y/N lying on him like this. Her hand once again find his hair to play.
He leans into the touch of her hands on his hair. It is a relaxing sensation. "So, this is how it feels to be the pillow." Loki teases playfully.
That takes a laugh of her. "You’re quite a comfortable pillow, you know?”
"That I am." Loki's lips curve up into a smile, the two of them now more comfortable with each other. His hands travel from her hair to her lower back, pulling her even closer. The two are now almost a tangle of bodies. Loki pulls her so that her head rests in the crook of his neck. One of his arms comes around to holds her firmly but gently to him, just enough pressure to make him feel her body.
They are relaxing in the comfortable silence when suddenly they were disturbing by Thor opening the door of Loki’s room. “Loki, have you…OH, I’m sorry.” And he closed the door as soon as he opened.
Loki sighs, not bothering to break his current position "I should really consider locking the door from now on."
“You should.” Y/N chuckles. “I can already hear the gossip the maids will do: Thor got Loki and Y/N together on bed.”
He chuckles quietly, amused by that. Then he realized how that could be misinterpreted "You know... The more I think about it, the more I realize how that whole gossip thing will look. I mean, we are two single people.... And we're laying on top of each other."
“This will be so misinterpreted...” She agrees with a small laugh.
"Oh definitely." Loki suddenly has an idea."Oh! We should totally add to the gossip."
“What do you mean?” Y/N look confused at him.
"We should give the maids something more to gossip about." Loki grins, a slightly mischievous edge to him. "Let's have you come out of my room a little more... disheveled."
“And how exactly?” She smiles at his mischievous idea.
"Well..." he suddenly pulls her more tightly to him, whispering into her ear , in a sensual way not typical from the two of them "Like how we were just doing things."
A shiver went down her spine “I see...”
"So, are you in?" Loki's breath hitches in his throat. He wants this.
“I am...maybe we should do something with you too, not just me?”
"Like what?" He asks, his breath catching once again.
Y/N thinks for a moment “I don’t know...maybe…a hickey on your neck…? That would help sell our story.”
Loki's body reacts to the suggestion.  His breath caught again, his entire body tingling as if his nerves were being tickled. “Y-yes..." Loki whispers, slowly.
“Can I?” She whispers in his ear. He just nods, his eyes closed as his body trembles slightly.  His breath is quick and shallow.
Y/N then proceeds to kiss a spot on his neck, before starting to sucking gently but enough to leave a mark. Loki's body reacts again, his legs starting to tense as his breath grows short.  The feeling is... more than he thought it would be.  His hands move around her, squeezing her tighter to him.  His eyes are still closed, but his mouth is agape slightly, his breath coming out in quick gasps.  His body trembles slightly, his hips moving slowly as he feels her mouth on his neck.
She finally stops and look at her work “It’s perfect. Really believable.”
Loki's entire body was flushed with heat. He took a deep breath before he answered. "Yes, perfect." His breath catching as he fights against a loud moan. He couldn't deny that this felt good. Extremely good. Maybe a little too good.
“I think it’s your time to help me look “disheveled”, like you said .
"Of course. " his voice raspy. He was still recovering from what she had done to him. "Are you ready for me to return the favor?"
“What do you have in mind?” Y/N was curious.
"The same thing... But to you." Loki grins. "You ready for me to give you a little mark on your neck." Y/N smiles and nods. He takes in a breath, then slowly moves over to her neck. Where she was gentle, he was more eager. But he was still trying to retain some control and not go too far. Her neck was just so soft and smooth and it was driving him crazy. Loki slowly kissed her neck, then slowly started sucking a little bit.
Y/N let out a soft gasp, closing her eyes and gathering all of her selfcontrol to not moan at the feeling of his lips on her neck. Her reaction drives him a little crazy. He starts doing it again, this time with a little more pressure, a little more sucking. It's a little more intense than what she did to him, but she seemed to be enjoying it, which was all that mattered to him. She had tried to hold back, but eventually a low moan escaped her lips.
Loki hears it and it drives him even crazier. He was enjoying this more than he thought he would. He continues the sucking for a few more seconds, then stops. "Do you want me to keep going...?" Loki whispers in her ear, his voice breathless.
“I think it’s good enough…” she says coming back to her senses.
He just nods quietly, a little disappointed "Is it enough to help with the gossip?"
“I don’t know...maybe a few more things?” Y/N was wondering if she had really got back to her senses or not right now.
"Like what?" Loki whispers, still breaths slowly coming out of him.
“Maybe messy hairs…your shirt untucked?” she chuckles.
"That, I think we can do." Loki chuckles as well.
“Come on, sit up.” She smiles, as she was still laying on him. She was blaming his stupid plan right now for her acting this way. But it was all for the "prank", right?
Loki nods and slowly sits up, bringing her up with him as he does, keeping his arms around her. He then gently runs his hands through her hair, making it messy as best as he can. One of his hands grabs her waist and pulls her a little bit closer to him “You ready for the next part?"
Y/N laughs softly and then starts messing with his hair the best she can. Loki chuckles as well . He's still pulling her just a little bit closer to him, enjoying the fact that she is now straddling him.  Her legs on his hips...It is a little exciting, something that makes him tingle.
She admires her work for a second, before looking back at his eyes “So now…untuck your shirt?”
Loki nods and does exactly what she tell him. He untucks his shirt, then proceeds to mess it up even more. He plays with the collar, unbuttons it slightly at the top, just enough to add to the look.
“Maybe you should unzip my dress just a little?” She was only doing this to sell the idea...right?
His body tenses up at the suggestion, but he nods. "Okay..." Loki slowly unzips the top of her dress just a few inches, just enough so that her back are exposed a little bit.
“Perfect.” Y/N laughs.
"Anything else?" *Loki asks slowly and shakily.  His senses are tingling.  She was straddling him just right, his body was tingling in all the right places. This whole plan of his was backfiring on him.
“I don’t know. Any ideas?”
Loki thinks, but all his brain can think of is... Y/Nnd him becoming "disheveled" together. "Well..." He speaks quietly. “There's... one last thing we can do."
Y/N was curious again, but her eyes had a hint of something, almost like desire “What is it?”
Loki hesitates for a moment before he speaks. His breath catches in his throat. But he wants to do this. He can't deny that he wants to go through with this "Close your eyes..."
She bites her lower lip before she let go and closes her eyes like he said. It was enough to make him tingle in all the right places. Loki slowly leans in and kisses her. His hands reach around her and pull her closer to him, her body pressed right up against his.
Y/N couldn’t say she was surprised, because maybe she was expecting something like that. She kissed him back in the same instant.
His heart starts to race as the kiss goes on longer.  He was starting to hold back less and less. His arms were wrapped around her tight, pulling her as close to him as he could, his one hand reaching to her lower back. Loki deepens the kiss, he wants to go even further.
She was the first one to act on impulse, pulling his shirt off his body and as soon as it was discarded somewhere in his room, her hands started exporing his chest. Y/N pushes him with her weight so they would be laying back in their previous position, still with her legs straddling him. Y/N broke the kiss but instead of stopping, she went to his neck where she had left a mark previously.
Loki's entire body shivers, just like before, his hands moving to the sides of her hips and moving them up the back of her body, touching her skin under the dress. He moans loudly as she start sucking his neck again.
“Take it off…” Y/N whispers in his ear.
Loki is breathless from the excitement. His eyes wide open, his breath coming quick and shallow.  The adrenaline is rushing through his entire body. He takes in a quick breath before he speaks. "Are you sure...?”
She nods. “We’re just making the gossip more believable...”
"We are..." Loki whispers back as his fingers slowly start grabbing at the zipper of her dress.  Y/N helped him get off the clothes, leaving her in only her underwear on top of him. Loki can't deny how beautiful she looks... She's his best friend, so why is his body reacting this way to her?
Loki whispers, the excitement making it difficult to talk. "I don't think this is just 'disheveled' anymore..."
“No? Then what is it?” Her voice was matching his exciment.
His breath skips. He can't deny the obvious. He is trying to, his mind telling him not to go further "I think this is... getting a little too real now."
Loki was right, she realized “Yeah, maybe you’re right…” Y/N got off him to lay by his side, making him sighs quietly as she left his arms.
"Maybe... We should stop..."*Loki whispers quietly, his voice breathless.  He looks at her. He can't deny that there is a tinge of disappointment in his eyes. He wanted to go a little further... Or... Was he scared because this is... Getting too real...?
“Yeah. You’re right.” she says still laying by his side and looking up at the ceiling.
The prince sighs again. He tries to relax his breath, but his body is still trembling slightly. "Sorry that I pushed this..." Loki says quietly, trying to hide his disappointment. He had built this up in his mind, got himself too excited, and then pulled back when it got too real.
“It’s okay…” she says softly, hiding her own disappointment.
Loki is silent a moment, still trying to settle down his adrenaline rush, his body still trembling. "Are...we okay..." Loki whispers, wanting to check if this whole thing did not impact the relationship between them in any way.
Y/N chuckles and finally look at him with a small smile “We’re fine.”
He gives her the smallest, softest smile in return. "Promise?" *Loki whispers quietly. He still just wants to make sure she'll still see him the same. Because there's nothing he wants less than to lose her.
“I promise.” Another smile.
Loki sighs, a relief washing over him “Good..."
“I think we should get dressed...” Y/N says noticing now her situation.
Loki nods slowly. "Yeah... We probably should."
They both got up from the bed, putting their clothes back on. “Can you help me here?” She turns her back with the ziper open.
"Of course." Loki whispers, reaching to help you zip up your dress.
“Thanks.”
“You’re welcome.” Loki smiles.
She look at the hickeys she left on his neck and chuckles “Yep, I guess there will be a lot of gossip about that neck of yours.”
“Yeah..." Loki chuckles a bit as well. "We definitely gave them something to talk about..."
“Our plan succeeds then.” Y/N laughs.
Loki chuckles softly as well, relieved and happy that she wasn’t  upset, and the whole thing didn't ruin their friendship. "Yeah... I guess it did." *Loki whispers quietly.
And now with the initial excitement over, Loki's head is becoming a little more clear.  He's thinking back on what actually happened.  He's not sure if her reactions were genuine.  Or if she was just playing her part.
“I think I should go now…for the sake of our plan.”
"Yeah... You're right." Loki nods "We got our story... Now we just have to play it right.  I'll see you tomorrow?”
“Of course.” Y/N smiles.
"Good.  Then I will see you tomorrow." Loki gives you one last smile.
“I’ll see you tomorrow” she smiles one last time before she left his room.
Loki watches her leave his room.  He still can't believe how things had escalated tonight.  A part of him is relieved that it didn't result in anything more.  A bigger part of him is disappointed and even confused... Why did he want more?  And why did it make him so disappointed?  With a sigh, he heads to his bed, trying to clear his head.
The next morning, when Loki arrived for breakfast, Thor was already there. His brother looked at his neck and laughed “What’s that on your neck?”
"Uh...nothing..." Loki says quickly.
“Interesting how Y/N also had marks on her neck this morning…after Thor say he found you two laying together…” Sif smirked.
The plan definitely seemed to be working... Too well perhaps. "We were just laying together while having a conversation.  I was not doing anything more than just talking." Loki says quickly, trying to deny that anything more was going on at all.
Sif and Thor laughed at this. “Loki, the only thing people are talking today is how Y/N left your room last night with her hair a mess and hickeys on her neck.” *The warrior says.
"People talk too much..." Loki mutters.
Loki had been focusing on his brother and Sif, completely oblivious to the fact that Y/N was not there yet. He really doesn’t want to think about what everyone else thinks… But he can’t help but start to think about it. This may not have been the best idea after all. Loki sighs and looks over to Thor. "Does it really have to be this big of a deal?" *Loki whispers.  The question was rhetorical, he didn't really expect Thor to answer.
“No, brother. Why you two don’t assume you’re together at once? You keep this “we’re friends” thing.” Thor says.
"Because we are just friends." *Loki snaps back. He wasn't going to allow his brother to jump to any conclusions.  He was hoping that the plan would result in some gossip and rumors, but he didn't want it to actually go too far.
Sif notices how he keep looking at the entrance. “She’s not coming.”
“She says she had some stuff to do.” Thor replies.
“What kind of stuff?” Loki look at them, confused why Y/N hadn’t showed to breakfast.
“She didn’t elaborated.” Sif answer.
Loki lets out another small sigh. If she really was fine, then he was probably just making a big deal out of nothing. But Loki just couldn’t shake that feeling of nervousness.
“Library.” Thor whispers to him.
He lets out a small sigh as he stands up.*"I'll be right back." Loki speaks up.  He gets up from the table and starts walking to the library.
“You’re looking for Y/N, prince Loki?” A woman asked him.
Loki looks over at the woman who had just spoken to him.  He gives her a small pause before finally responding. "Yeah... I am. Have you seen her?"
“She went to her chambers just a few minutes ago.”
“Thank you." Loki whispers to the woman, before leaving the library and making his way towards Y/N's room. Loki arrives at Y/N’s room, gently knocks on the door and wait for it to open.
“It’s open.” She says from inside the room.
Loki slowly opens the door and steps inside her room.  "Hi..." He whispers with a small smile.
“Hi...” Y/N smiles back.
"You're fine, right?" Loki asks quietly. The question was simple, but he was still making sure that everything was okay.
The girls chuckles “Why wouldn’t I be?”
"You... You didn't come to breakfast..." Loki replies quietly.
“Oh, right.” she chuckles again “I was tired of your brother and Sif teasing. You did a nice work on my neck last night, everyone is talking...Did you think we went too far on our plan?” she looks at him “Everyone is talking how we supposedly spent the night together.”
Loki lets out a breath "Well... I...No, I guess not..."
“Okay” Y/N smiles and walks to him “Want to lay down with me and rest?”
He smiles as he allows her to lead him to her bed. He feels her next to him, and his nerves start to build up a little bit again, like they'd started to last night when he laid down next to her.
She starts playing with his hair like she always do and notices his body more tense “What’s on your mind?”
"Just..." Loki chuckles lightly, feeling her fingers running through his hair as that feeling of nervousness builds up in his stomach “I guess I keep thinking about last night..."
“Why?” She asks genuinely.
"I guess I just can't stop thinking about the way you reacted when I... You know.  Kissed your neck..." Loki whispers quietly. The feeling of butterflies in his stomach was growing stronger now.
“Sorry, my neck it’s my weakness…” The girls chuckles.
"I noticed." Loki chuckled as he took out another breath.
“Why did you kissed me?”
"I... I..." *Loki stops, trying to think of an answer that doesn't admit just how much he wanted to do that to her last night "I don't really know..."
“That’s okay.” Y/N’s fingers keeps playing with his hair. “I guess that was my fault. I was the one who suggested about the hickeys…if escalated, it’s my fault.”
"It's not your fault..." Loki whispers. "I wanted to kiss your neck... I wanted to kiss all over your neck and everywhere else..." He sighs."I wanted to do whatever it took to drive you crazy last night..."
The way that she looks at him changed “Do you…still want to?”
Loki's face goes still for a moment as she asks him that. He is taken back by her words and by the look in her eyes.  He could feel those feelings... Growing. With his brain going on auto-pilot, but his body reacting on impulse... Loki's mouth moves forward and presses against hers. Y/N kissed him back passionately, and Loki took the oportunity to go on top of her.
His kisses continue to grow in both intensity and desperation.  He kisses her harder and harder.  His hands squeezing her closer.  Their bodies pressed together.
Y/N starts taking off his shirt in autopilot, while Loki’s hands also move to take off her dress, while their kiss intensify. There were a mess of hands and soon they were without their clothes, naked as their bodies pressed against each other.
Loki keeps kissing her while his hands run all over her body.  Every touch and movement seem to trigger something new in his body… Making any other thought besides her fade away.  His arms wrap around her, and he holds her closer.  He pressed his hips against her, making her moans so softly, he almost missed. But hearing that sound fuel his desire, and he continues to press his hips against hers.  His hands move from holding her hips and begin exploring her body more thoroughly... Finding their way to her core.  Y/N moans into the kiss, as soon as he starts teasing her clit.
Loki takes a breath as he stares back into her eyes for a moment, still teasing her.  The look in her eyes, combined with the moans and the sound of her breathing, makes his hands move faster... More urgently.  He can't stop himself... He is lost in his desire... As his hands work their magic, she moans louder... Their breathing becomes heavier and shorter until he finally pushes one finger into her and his lips move to her neck.
“Loki...” Y/N moans his name, and he took the opportunity to push a second finger.
Loki moves to her ear now, whispering into it. “You like this, don't you?”
“Yes...”
He whispers into her ear again I'm gonna make you like it even more.”
Loki's fingers now start to move a bit faster, more urgently. Her moans grow even more intense, her body beginning to tremble from the pleasure. A few more seconds, and she couldn’t hold back anymore when she came in his fingers.
Y/N looks at him panting “I want you...now.”
Loki aligned with her entrance and slowly he pushed inside of her, making they moan at the sensation. He started with a slow pace, but as the desires grow, his pace was getting faster and rougher.
“I’m...close...”
"I know... I know..." Loki whispers.  He feels the tension growing even more than before, the sensation only growing with intensity as she reaches the edge.  He is also reaching the edge now... His movement speeds up, her sounds driving him to this point. After a little more time, Y/N was hit by her orgasm, clenching around Loki’s cock, making he cum with a low growl. He slowly pulls out and lets out a slow breath.  His breaths are shorter and more erratic now.  His mind's too... Foggy... To truly process anything right now.
Loki looks back at her, still trying to catch his breath.  The smile is still on his face, as he stares at her with a look that could only mean one thing: Satisfaction.
“Loki?” He could notice she was still trying to calm her breath.
“Yeah?”
“This wasn’t a friend thing, was it?” Y/N asks him, laying on her side so she could face him.
Loki’s smile grows wider as her question hits him.  His eyes continue to stare back at her. “No… It wasn’t a friend thing…”
"Good.” Y/N chuckles “I think the gossips are right…we do act like a couple sometimes. But maybe it’s because we…like each other more than friends…”
The prince grins as she says this.  He seems to confirm what she is saying as well.  He chuckles quietly as a response. "I think that's a fair assessment.  We do... Like each other more than friends..."
“So now what?”
Loki stays silent for a second as he thinks about what she just said.  He keeps an eye on her as she stares back at him. "So, you want us to be more?"
“I do.” She was honest “Do you?”
"Definitely." Loki says without a doubt.  It was already obvious to him.  They'd already basically been acting like a couple for years now.  And after last night... It was obvious what they were to each other.
Y/N smiles at his answer and he continues to smile back at her.  He doesn't really have words for this moment right now... Because words don't feel needed.

MC's father: I want to witness the birth of my granddaughter.
MC's brother: No chance, father. I'm afraid you'll just have to watch on the side. *sips his tea*
MC's father: It's been years. Haven't they forgiven your sister yet?
MC's brother: MC is not a saint, father. And can you stop playing favorites already? This is why she grew up spoiled.

MC: *looks seriously at him*
MC: He wouldn't just be sleeping for days. He will be escaping nightmares and illusions.
Ruggie: ...
Ruggie: That doesn't sound too good. What are you going to do now?
MC: I will never let anything happen to him, of course.
Ruggie: ...
Ruggie: You're so sweet to him, master-
MC: Ruggie.
Ruggie: Don't set me on fire.
MC's mother: MC has two children?
MC's brother: About to be two, yes.
MC's mother: ...
MC's mother: How are they? Didn't they struggle?
MC's brother: No worries, auntie. Your solution worked. They didn't get to inherit the bloodlust.
MC's mother: Oh... That's a relief.
MC's brother: *smiles* Auntie, don't you want to visit them in the Royal Palace?
MC's mother: ...
MC's mother: I am not sure if they would want to see me since I abandoned them the moment they were born.
MC's brother: Eh? But Auntie, wasn't MC aware of the reason?
MC's mother: ...
MC's mother: Would they have remembered?
MC's brother: Well... You do have a point. I mean, it's better than them having killed because of your bloodlust. Haha-
MC's mother: *feels saddened*
MC's brother: Sorry. By the way, why did you return, Auntie?
MC's mother: ...
MC's mother: I want to bid farewell to MC for the last time.
MC's brother: What?

So, in Busman’s Homeymoon, Lord Peter buys Harriet Vane a mink cloak worth 950 pounds (according to the Dowager Duchess’ journal entry), but he buys Tallboys for “only” 650 pounds.
Even bearing in mind that real estate really did used to be cheaper, do you understand how that is possible? Or how to find out more about relative purchasing power? I used an online calculator website which gave me some figures, but it still seems insane that one could buy an entire Elizabethan farmhouse for 2/3 the price of a garment! Very curious to learn from others who understand this better than I do.
Ah, I see my esteemed colleague @oldshrewsburyian has also had some interesting thoughts on this, so I'll link that here as well before I begin.
So, it's a legitmate question, and there's no catch-all simple answer (in the gotcha sense of 'why didn't i know that bit of cultural Truth'), but there are mitigating factors that take it from a ridiculous price comparison, to merely outlandish. Even taking into account that the coat is quoted in guineas, not pounds, and that PW says the bank valued Talboys at £800 via a mortgage (the paid price was a discount, for paying in cash quickly, which is Plot Relevant), it gets us to roughly the same place, value-wise. Or shall we say PRICE-wise, rather than value, as I'll get into below. There's several factors at play here - they mainly relate to class, and spending power:
-The house is Not That Great, in terms of the kind of property that PW would usually be buying. I mean it is still a large-ish house, big enough to have 2 adults and small children in, but it's not what would be on his radar normally. The only reason they know about it, it that it's near a place where HARRIET grew up as a child. It's not getting any high marks in particular Beauty, Convenience, or Quality - the main reason HV's drawn to it is sentiment, rather than anything else. They both know that they will have to significantly add to it, and alter it, in order for it to be a comfortable home. That would usually be out-of-budget for someone in Harriet's position, who would expect to buy something that meets her needs 'as-is'. Most people looking at buying that house would be Harriets not Peters, so it might be a tough sell.
-The house has no power, and limited plumbing: There's dark references to DRAINS by the dowager duchess, it's entirely possible that this house has no modern plumbing at all - they make the comparison that the huge palace the Wimseys grew up in wasn't plumbed until recently, but then again they do have about 800 servants, whereas Talboys is just a regular house: they will have Bunter alone (at first), with an assist from Mrs Ruddle. There's mention of "a cistern" with some basic valves, but the scullery is mentioned as having a copper, from which hot water is "scooped into a large bath-can" - a copper being, simply, a large metal basin over a fire, in effect. No running hot water, maybe no flushable loos - it's a factor. They also talk specifially about having to electrify Talboys themselves - it's candles and lamps until then. It's fancy camping. By the mid-1930s, a lot of middle-class buyers would expect a little more convenience in both water and wiring, unless they had significant support staff, which Talboys would not be expected to house.
-There's probably no farm! It's a farm house - not a wider land purchase. People like PW's brother the Duke are wealthy primarily because they own land, not because of the big palace they have (which eats money, rather than generates it). The land is what gives them spending power, because other people are paying them rent to live on it, farm on it, or both. PW's own personal 'younger sibling' wealth is also mentioned somewhere to be primarily in real estate (assumed to be in London) - sad to say: he's a landlord, and that's why he's rich. Talboys, on the other hand, as a purchase, would not, in almost any way, be expected to generate revenue through either farming, agriculture, or charging rent. Until they invent house flipping in 80 years, or until the motorway goes through in 40 years, there's not much expectation that Talboys would increase all that much in value.
-Lastly, there's a massive disparity in what The Market Will Bear when we compare a basic residence vs a luxury item (like a mink coat) in the mid-1930s. This is not particular to that time, though. Like any first-year economics student will tell you, the price of something is not it's intrinsic value, it's what someone is WILLING to pay for it. If someone is willing to pay such a price, that's the price it will be. So, we're not comapring Objects, we're comparing Buyers: the the main purchasers of a slightly run-down farmhouse located nowhere special are Harriets, and main purchasers of mink coats are Peters. Talboys is priced for Harriets. The mink coat is priced for Peters.
Compare for example, a contemporary parallel: the Hermes Birkin bag. It's a leather handbag with a starting retail price of about USD 11,400. Just for the bag. Then, you have fancier versions of the fancy bag, eg wikipedia tells me one version sold at auction for USD 380,000 in Hong Kong in 2017. Now, the Harriets of today are not buying a Hermes Birkin handbag, but they are probably trying to buy slightly run-down houses outside urban centers for (one hopes) slightly less than 380k. The Wimseys of the worlds are clearly buying Birkin bags. In that way, it's actually pretty easy to get to a place where Person A might buy a single luxury item for X pounds, and Person B might buy a whole residence for X pounds, and neither feel like they'd done something insane. The key here is in a Wimsey/Vane marriage, they run up against this concept immediately, and repeatedly.
There's a good reason the first epistolary section of the novel is almost entirely taken up with money chat - the ring, the purchase of shirts from Burlington Arcade, the marriage settlement, the gift from the bride to the groom, the mink coat, the bitchy exchange between Helen and Harriet about HV being allowed "six free copies of her book" to distribute. These people come from 2 fundamentally different experiences of the world. They might have gotten engaged using the word 'Magistra', specifically to emphasise their fundamental equality (in the context of learning and the mind, to begin with), but it can't be denied: there's gaps that need to be bridged. They both know parts of their married life will be spent in attempting to do that, hopefully to their mutual satisfaction. Mention of a mink coat for 950 guineas is a nice, neat shorthand for illustrating what's still at play between them here.

Fatal Allure
Leon x Reader
Summary: To save the country from a devastating war, your parents promised their only daughter's hand in marriage to the first prince of a rival country. Ignoring your own fears, you face the future you were fated to have. You only hoped that the heir to the throne would not turn out to be a monster.

As you looked into the mirror, you could feel your heart tighten. You looked… mesmerising. A beautiful lady looked back at you from the mirror. Perfectly pinned up hair, adorned with crystals, impeccable make-up and the beautiful gown befitting the future queen.
You looked like the perfect bride. Or you would, if your reflection smiled. You sighed and smoothed the material of your dress one last time, before someone knocked at the door.
“My lady,” you heard a woman’s voice as the door opened. It was one of your servants, Claire. The young woman had only recently joined the palace staff, but you had grown very fond of her. Being close in age helped you get along. “It is time” She said, offering you a sad smile.
For a moment you wondered if she knew what was going on in your mind. If she could read the thoughts of running away and never coming back from your face. If she did, you were glad she didn’t try to comfort you or offer any words of wisdom. You had enough of the latter from your mother. If you heard one more ‘you’ll learn to love him’ you’d become violent towards the person who uttered the words.
With a final sigh, you nodded and followed the servant out of the room. With each step, the weight of your duty grew.
An arranged marriage was hardly the future you had imagined for yourself. You had always imagined true love, someone who would sweep you off your feet and promise you the world. Someone you could trust. And here you were, about to marry the future king of the neighbouring country. Though you hardly considered it a marriage, despite the words of everyone around you. ‘Royalty always marries this way’ they said, or ‘I met your father once before we got married! And we are happy!‘ – something you wanted to argue with, because apart from official events, they spent barely any time together.
But the sweet words and assurances that you would be happy, you knew this was no ordinary arranged marriage. It was a peace offering from your parents, who were losing the war. A last resort to save themselves and their country. And they didn’t even ask!
You clenched your fists as anger once again seeped into your body. You could still run. Or try to embarrass your parents during the ceremony, to show your defiance. What would happen if you simply said you wouldn't marry the prince? Would he start the war again? You didn’t exactly know what he was capable of – after all, you only knew him for his achievements on the battlefield!
“My lady, are you well?” the sweet voice of your servant brought you out of your trance. It was only then that you realised you had stopped walking, only a few steps from the doors of the wedding hall.
You looked at the poor girl and the guards standing behind you. No turning back now. You met the servant's gaze once more and offered a smile. Once behind this door, you would have to start looking like you wanted to be here. You might as well start now.
“I am” you replied briefly, walking the rest of the way to the door. You straightened up as someone put a bouquet of flowers in your hands. You stopped yourself from turning around to see who it was, but suspected it was one of the guards. Somehow the thought of one of those big men walking all this way with a wedding bouquet for you amused you. So much so, that when the door opened, the smile on your lips was an honest one.
Music began to play and everyone turned to look at you, but you couldn’t concentrate on them. Your eyes were fixed on your future husband. A pit in your stomach deepened as the reality hit you. This was now your future. No a bad dream or an ill-conceived joke. In a few hours life would never be as it was.
The walk to the altar was faster than you had hoped. It seemed that it wasn't true what they said, the time did not stop in stressful situations. It rushed, like it couldn’t wait to get to whatever you were most afraid of at the moment.
You looked around, muting whatever the priest was saying. Everything looked dreamy, and if you were here of your own free will, you would deem it beautiful. The venue was out of this world. Your eyes swept over the decorations, the guests and then landed on your future husband. He looked puzzled, and for a second you wondered whether the same expression was on your face.
The silence enveloped the room and you could only wonder if the time had stood still. No one moved or even whispered as your future husband took your hands in his, offering you a light squeeze. The ceremony went on, but neither of you seemed to be paying attention. The prince never took his eyes off of you, whispering words meant only for your ears.
“I promise that I will respect your wishes and give you freedom.” He began, offering you a gentle smile. “You do not deserve to be trapped somewhere against your will.” You couldn’t help the exhale that escaped your lips as he straightened up again, seemingly trying to focus back on the ceremony.
But you couldn't think of anything else but his words.  ‘You do not deserve to be trapped somewhere against your will’. It pained your heart to know that he wasn't mistaken about your feelings about the whole situation. Worse, he was here against his will as much as you were. Once again you felt the anger at your parents' plan.
But deep inside, a small flame of hope ignited in your chest. Although you could only judge him by the couple of words he whispered, a small promise he made. But he seemed… reasonable Unlike most of the princes you've met. Well… mostly unlike your brothers, who would be happy to be in his place – not to marry you of course (not that the marriages between family were unheard of, but this was never such a close family), but just to marry a good-looking woman who couldn’t exactly say no.
“I do.” Leon said, gently slipping a ring on your finger. You realised you spaced out again, this time doing your best to actually focus on the ceremony.
“Do you…” The priest turned to face you now. “…take Leon Scott Kennedy as your lawful husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until death do you part?”
You practised saying I do precisely for this moment, to not hesitate. To not show so many people that you were not sure about this marriage. But when it came to it, the words stuck in your throat for a moment.
Feeling everyone’s eyes on you, did not help.
“I do.” You finally answered as you placed a ring on Leon's finger. You swore you could see the priest smile. With the pause you took, he probably wasn’t the only one who thought you were going to say no.
“I now pronounce you man and wife!” He said, sounding more excited than he had throughout the whole ceremony. “You may now kiss the bride.”
You could feel the expectation of every guest, their eyes glued to the two of you. Waiting. Impatience was almost palpable in the air. You realised that up until this point you hadn’t really thought about this part of the ceremony, or… other duties you would have after this wedding.
Leon’s eyes were as full of uncertainty as yours – probably not how either of you had imagined your first kiss to happen. But slowly, giving you the opportunity to pull away, he leaned in. Though brief, the softness of his lips was reassuring in a room that was bursting with excitement. You couldn’t blame them, royal weddings were rare enough – one between two countries even more so.
As you pulled away, Leon held your hand tight and led you down the aisle you had previously walked to him, sealing your fate once and for all. As you walked, people threw the most unusual things at you, to ensure a happy marriage – from rice to flags.
Leon helped you into the carriage, following soon behind you. It was not until the doors closed that the excitement of the guests subsided. Even after the carriage started moving, you still held hands, a faint smiles on your lips.
“Thank you” you said, breaking the silence. “For what you said. I also do not wish for you to be trapped by our parents’ schemes. And… I do hope we can…” you lacked the right words, as ‘love each other’ seemed too heavy for the moment. “…come to understand one another.”
“You need not thank me, dearest” he replied quietly, a smile on his face. “And I meant what I said. I wish for you to feel safe and respected around me.”
≻──────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹──────≺
The rest of the ride was spent mostly in silence. But for the first time since you'd found out about the marriage, it wasn't an awkward one. There would be time to get to know your now husband. Preferably after the whole celebration – for now, you were just happy to believe that Leon wasn’t a bad person.
When you arrived, he helped you out of the carriage and led you inside of the palace where the wedding reception would take place. You took in the sight of the castle, and like everything you saw today, it was gorgeous. Being in another country meant different architecture, and you couldn't help but admire the big towers and high, rounded ceilings. And for a brief moment, before the joyful cheers of guests drowned out your thoughts, you wondered how long it would take you to get used to the new scenery.
The ballroom’s floor cleared around the two of you, and in an unnatural silence, everyone waited, their eyes glued to the newlyweds. Leon didn’t hesitate to follow tradition, as he took off his cloak and wrapped it around your shoulders, proudly showing everyone present you were now a part of his family and his to protect.
“My dear wife” Leon said, holding out his arm to you. “May I have this dance?” he asked as if it wasn’t tradition for you to have a first dance. The small gesture still warmed your heart, and something told you that he wouldn't push if you refused.
Still, you gently took his hand and let him lead you to the centre of the dance floor. Slow music played around you as Leon placed his free hand on your waist. He twirled you around the dance floor, his deep blue eyes never leaving yours. This could have been worse, you thought to yourself, offering your husband a smile. Though the future might prove you wrong, you were almost… glad, to have Leon on the other side of this arranged marriage. Many girls in your situation married brutes who only wanted them for their bodies. But Leon seemed like a good man. Respectful. You hoped he would still be during what happens after the whole wedding. You swallowed thickly, all of a sudden worried about certain duties expected of newlyweds.
Gradually, more people joined you, and you tried to silence the worrying thoughts, to push them deep into the back of your head. After all, respectful or not, it had nothing to do with it. There were traditions! Disgusting traditions where someone thought it was necessary to make sure the couple consummated their marriage.
“Are you okay?” Leon’s voice snapped you out of your unpleasant thoughts. Were you so obvious?
“Yeah, sorry, I was just… thinking. Or rather trying not to” you answered, letting out a small chuckle. You were quite spectacularly failing at that. Your husband raised his eyebrows, silently asking if you wanted to share whatever was troubling you. You sighed, losing the smile you had tried to put on earlier. “I just worry for the night we are to spend after the wedding.” You confessed. This time he was the one to chuckle.
“Darling,” he whispered, pulling you closer. Close enough for his lips to be right next to your ear. “I promised to respect your every wish, did I not? If you do not wish to spend the night with me, you will not be forced.” His voice made you shiver. Filled you with an unfamiliar warmth. Warmth that you attributed to satisfaction with the answer, mixed with relief.
The two of you swayed for another song, before slowly retreating to your table. Your chairs looked more like miniature thrones than actual chairs, only matched by the actual throne of Leon's father.
“You’d think he would give you the spotlight on your special day” you joked, making your husband chuckle.
“Careful, he might hear” he said in a rather joking manner, though you couldn’t help but wonder if there was any truth to he said. You both looked over to where his father was. He looked rather… bored. Sitting on that throne on an elevated platform, it was no wonder. His wife’s seat was empty, and there was no one else seated beside the current king and queen. You frowned at the distance between the king and his people. The rest of his family even.
“He’s always like that” Leon spoke as if he had the ability to read minds. “Just let him be. I think he prefers to be left alone” he shrugged and with that, it was the end of that conversation. You turned your head away from the king and turned to face your husband. A small frown was present on his face.
“How about, when you are king, we won’t sit on a platform and like statues?” you offered, noticing the corners of his lips lifting slightly. He nodded and swiftly changed the subject.
The rest of the night went smoothly. You danced, ate and celebrated like newlyweds would. You even got to learn a little bit more about your husband. Everything was going well until your mother got up.
When it came to your parents, she was always the one doing the talking, with your father agreeing to whatever she was up to at the moment. You were pretty sure it was the same with the arranged marriage. She had him wrapped around her finger.
“Your Grace” she began. It wasn’t often that she used titles with others, even kings. That was enough of a sign to know that you wouldn't like the words that were about to leave her mouth. “There sure was a lot of talking today, the prince wrapped my daughter in a cloak, but they have yet to be husband and wife! A key needs a lock!”
The king looked at her, then at you and Leon. He sighed, but smiled nonetheless.
“Then, let us bed them!” he exclaimed, and the whole room cheered. The guests began to gather around the two of you, excited to carry you to the bedchambers and watch as the newlyweds consummated their marriage. You held Leon’s arm a little tighter as some of the men began to lift you up.
You were glad for his quick reaction. Leon did not let go of you, keeping you close to his side. Much to the confusion of the guests.
“My dear people” Leon raised his hand, stopping anyone who got too close. Your feet slowly met the ground again and you forced yourself not to sigh with relief. “While honoured traditions must be respected, trust that my duties to my wife will be fulfilled.” He moved to leave a soft kiss in your hair. “We wish to be alone.” his voice was no louder than a whisper, but with the silence that had fallen upon the crowd, you were sure it had more impact than a harsh order for them to retreat.
All eyes were on the king, awaiting his decision. You'd say he looked annoyed, but that might just be his resting face. He rather dramatically sat back down on his throne, and you swore you saw him roll his eyes.
“If it is their wish” was all he said as his answer. Though a little unhappy, the guests offered understanding smiles and congratulations, before walking away to let you go about your way.
Leon smiled at you, before sweeping you off your feet himself. The people cheered one last time, before he carried you out of the ballroom and through the palace halls. The walk was silent, and you couldn’t stop thinking about the warmth you’d felt ever since Leon kissed your hair earlier. It was a protective gesture, something you hadn’t lacked in your life with your father, brothers and all the guards they considered necessary for your safety. But this time… this time the gesture tingled in a nice way, so much so that you wished to experience it more.
You focused on Leon again as he gently placed you on the bed and went to close the door. When the old entryway clicked shut, he turned to look at you, taking a few moments to admire you. The dress pooled around you, shimmering in the dim light of the candles.
Without a word, you extended your hand in Leon’s direction, inviting him to come closer. He hesitated for a second, before walking over to you and squeezing your hand. It was warm and a little sweaty, and you wondered if he was just as nervous as you were.
“We don’t have to do anything you don’t feel comfortable with” Leon assured, crouching down in front of you. His hand clasped yours in a gesture of understanding. “We can just go to sleep and figure it out later.”
It was your turn to hesitate. Though you couldn’t be sure if it was hesitation or if you just got lost in his eyes for a moment. So close to you, his face lit only by the flickering light of the candles, you couldn't tear your gaze away.
You didn’t want to.
Without a word, you leaned closer to him, lips hovering over his as you gave him a moment to pull away. But he didn’t.
“What if we… don’t go to sleep?” as you whispered, you could feel his hand squeeze yours a little tighter. Leon didn’t answer. At least not with words. He closed the remaining distance between your lips offering you a kiss. It was soft, a little hesitant at first, as if he was afraid you would pull away and slap him.
Slowly, he became more confident and deepened the kiss. All the emotions you had before were now released as you shared this moment. His hand found it’s way to rest on the back of your head as he rose from the floor and gently positioned you to lay on the bed. Leon hovered over you, holding his weight up with one hand, the other still in your hair.
“Are you sure?” he asked, concern visible in his eyes. “If you think that you have to– “ you didn’t let him finish, grabbing the front of his shirt and pulling him in for another kiss.
“I want to” you assured him, almost rolling your eyes. He gave you plenty of time to protest, and still put the energy into asking whether you were certain it is what you wanted and not what you felt was your duty as a wife. “You’re too good for your own good, dear husband.” You giggled, your hand resting on his cheek. Though the constant reassurances slowed the whole process, it made you want him even more. So caring for his new wife.
Leon sighed and nuzzled his cheek into your palm, planting a soft kiss on it. His fingers ghosted over your body, still hesitant to touch you. A touch you longed for, needed more with every stroke of his fingers that actually touched you. But just as soon as they touched you, he pulled away even faster, as if your skin burned him.
“Sweet husband” you said, taking his hands in yours, stopping his pointless wandering around your body. You brought them both to your mouth and kissed each of them. "You have asked me a thousand times if I am ready," you whispered, moving your gaze from his hands to his eyes. "So let me ask you now. Do you want to be intimate with me, dearest?”
Leon looked shocked by your words, but as soon as the shock wore off, he nodded quickly, desperate to assure you of his own willingness.
“Yes! I- I do! It’s just…” Leon bit his lip “I do not wish to hurt you”
You wanted to tell him that he wouldn’t, of course, being so sweet and cautious, how could he? But you had the impression that words would not work in this situation. So instead you moved his hands, placing one of them on your breast and the other on your hip. Leon froze, before finally squeezing the flesh under his palms. He was cautious at first, but warmed up to the feel of your body under his. Suddenly it was as if a switch had been flipped in his head and he was all over you, trying to cover every visible bit of your skin with his mouth. You could feel his hands growing bolder, clutching at the dress when it started to get in the way. He quickly grew annoyed with the material and turned you onto your stomach, his hands working to undo the corset. Or rather trying to, because Leon cursed under his breath and started fighting with the garment.
“You have to be slow” you giggled when he yanked on the corset particularly hard.
“Beloved, I will not hesitate to take you in that dress if it’s not off your body soon” he groaned, stopping the war with your dress for a second. You didn’t doubt his words and fortunately he didn't have time to prove his honesty. The dress tore in the back, leaving you both stunned. To be honest, you hadn't expected him to use so much force - you hadn't thought it would be so easy to tear such good quality fabric! When the maids fastened the corset, you thought they  were using immense force to squeeze your poor insides, and they weren’t even close to damaging anything. Just how strong was he?
“Sorry” he murmured. Apparently his regret wasn’t strong enough to stop him from pulling the gown from your body. A shiver ran down your spine when it was gone. You felt… vulnerable. Excited.
“Don’t worry, I ‘m nit planning on getting married again any time soon” you chuckled, turning back on the bed. Facing him felt even worse somehow. Now you could see the way he looked at you, the hunger in his eyes.
“Good” his gaze flickered from your body to your lips. “Because I want you only for myself, my beautiful queen” with that, Leon closed the remaining distance between you and took your lips in a tender kiss. The world fell away as you sank deeper into the kiss. Once you parted for air, you gazed upon him, now completely bare in front of you.
He chuckled when you tried to look away, a little embarrassed.
“No need to be shy, dearest” his hand was on your cheek, slowly turning your head back to him. Leon smiled at you and planted a soft kiss on your forehead.
At first he began to move slowly, his fingers trailing up your thigh, stopping when he reached your clit. You let out a nervous sigh as he massaged you gently. For someone so seasoned in combat his fingers were surprisingly soft and gentle when they caressed your body.
“Relax for me, darling” he whispered, feeling your body tense up. Closing your eyes, you tried to take a deep breath.
He was everything. Slow and caring. Yet, the unknown still frightened you, even if Leon was your husband, one couldn’t just forget years of pestering about the importance of staying innocent.
Leon kissed your temple, whispering sweet nothings and promises against your skin. It worked like magic, calming down your mind enough to allow you to relax the tense muscles. His lips then trailed lower to taste the sweetness between your thighs, coaxing sweet gasps and sighs from your lips until you bucked desperately against him.
“H-husband, wait–!” you tried to plead through moans as the unknown warmth began to spread through your body. But your words only seemed to spur him on. Soon you were writhing underneath him, moaning his name out with a hand tangling into his hair as you came. Leon didn’t stop for a while, easing you through the overwhelming feeling.
When you stopped trembling, Leon was back up next to you. You didn’t see the way he wiped his lips before he leaned down to kiss all over your face. A soft giggle escaped your lips at the ticklish sensation.
“May I?” your husband asked, between the kisses. His hand was already back on your thigh, slowly pushing them apart.
You placed one hand on his chest and the other around his neck and, without breaking eye contact, moved your legs to wrap loosely around his waist The silent approval didn't go unnoticed by him, making a smirk appear on his lips.
“Stop me at any time, dearest wife” in this compromising position, his promise to respect your possible change of consent warmed your heart, successfully ridding you of any remaining hesitation. With your nod, he positioned himself at your entrance and paused, once again searching your eyes for permission, before sliding inside with a groan. He was slow, ignoring his own need for pleasure as soon as he heard a gasp leave your lips.
The stretch burned unpleasantly, causing you to wince in pain. Still, you didn’t try to stop him. You didn’t have to, he noticed your pained expression and came to a halt.
“You’re doing amazing” he whispered, kissing your wet, tear-filled eyes. The kisses spread around your face as he continued to whisper sweet encouragements until you relaxed once again.
With another nod he moved again, sliding in until he was all the way home. A sigh of pleasure escaped his lips once your hips met. He took a moment to take in the situation, calm himself down as he admired your beautiful form beneath him.
In his eyes, you were a goddess, beautiful and radiant. If the evening you spent together was any indication, you were everything he could ever want and more. He could already see how your future might unfold. As he stared at you he prayed to the gods above for you to stay by his side – a rather silly request, given that the two of you had just got married. Yet he wished it was what you wanted of your own free will.
“Dearest?” you snapped him out of his daydream, no sign of displeasure remaining on your divine features. You looked rather hot and bothered by Leon’s pause.
He chuckled, whispering an apology and placing a soft kiss on your lips. His kisses trailed down your neck as he moved his hips backwards. A motion he stopped when only the head of his cock remained inside of you, teasing you, before moving back in again. Leon set the most unhurried pace, simply extending the pleasure you experience.
Soon the room was filled with the sound of your joined whimpers and the slapping of skin against skin. The warmth began to grow faster  the quicker Leon moved.
“I don’t need the universe when you’re in my arms, beloved” he breathed out, your gasps and cries thrilling him beyond measure. "My glorious queen…" Leon gasped against your lips, capturing them once more as passion overtook you. Your legs tightened around his waist as if seeking to meld into one, and Leon let go of any remaining restraint with a groan. His motions grew deeper, quicker, more eager.
You cried out in unison as you came together, holding each other tightly. Spent and sated, Leon kissed your flushed cheeks, caressing your body with gentle touches.
You didn’t move, letting Leon worship your body with kisses. They were just what you needed. Almost unconsciously, your hand found it's way into Leon's hair, slowly stroking it. It felt heavier than usual.
“Beloved husband” you murmured as your eyelids fell. You couldn’t fight the sudden wave of tiredness that washed over you. He stopped showering your body with kisses, instead he settled down next to you in the bed. His hand wrapped around your waist as he covered you with a blanked.
“Rest, dearest” he whispered. Your unspoken need for closeness was satisfied by a gentle tug that pulled you flush against his body. Amidst the warmth of the blankets and Leon’s body the consciousness slowly began to slip from your body, lulling you to sleep.

Undying Love || King Thranduil
Summary: Request - Are you taking King Thranduil requests? If you are taking... do you write with a human reader? The reader may be a Dúnedain. Or even Aragorn's aunt or older sister. She is someone who can overcome Thranduil's solid walls and sharp borders. Considering human age (although the Dúnedain lived longer) this results in sadness, as we all know. But these two can find comfort in each other, amidst their complicated relationship.
A/N: Not sure how much I like this one. It's really sweet and of course ends well. Let me know your thoughts :)

As you walk through the dense, towering trees of Mirkwood the ancient sentinels of the forest whisper secrets of the old world with every rustle of their leaves. Accompanied by Legolas and Gimli you stride purposefully down the leaf-strewn path, your eyes alight with curiosity. The fabled woods which were spoken of in many a tale and song unfold around you with a serene majesty.
Beside you Legolas moves with an effortless grace that seems almost like a dance. His elven heritage clear in every step. Gimli who was ever the stout and steadfast companion keeps up a steady stream of complaints about the seemingly endless trek through the trees.
As the elegant spires of the elven king's palace glint through the dense canopy of Mirkwood Legolas turns towards you with a distinctly worried expression. "My father can be... quite the traditionalist," he warns in a low voice. His clear blue eyes searching yours for understanding. "His views on the dealings of elves with humans and dwarves can still be quite rigid."
You simply shrug with a slight smile playing on your lips. "I've dealt with stubborn royalty before," you reply confidently recalling countless negotiations and meetings with leaders across middle earth. "I can handle your father Legolas."
Legolas hesitates. His gaze lingering on you a moment longer. His concern not entirely abated. "It's not just his traditional views," he adds before lowering his voice as other elves pass by with graceful nods. "He has rarely opened his heart or mind after my mother's passing. He guards himself, sometimes too fiercely. Be cautious still. He is not easily swayed or impressed."
Acknowledging his words with a nod you feel a spark of challenge light up within you. "Thank you, Legolas. I appreciate your concern, but these challenges are not unfamiliar to me. I’ll tread carefully but I won’t back down. You know me well enough by now." Your response seems to reassure him slightly though he still watches you with a mix of admiration and apprehension as you approach the grand threshold of the palace.
As the three of you step into the grand hall the air shifts, filled with the soft melodies of elven music and the fragrance of exotic flowers. The elven king himself stands tall and imposing at the far end of the room his sharp eyes locking onto yours as you approach.
"My Lord Thranduil," you greet him while bowing your head slightly in respect yet holding his gaze firmly. You knew exactly how to deal with his type.
Thranduil's initial surprise at your directness quickly gives way to intrigue. He steps forward. His regal bearing unmistakable. "I am told you are the King of Gondor’s elder sister," he states looking from Legolas back to you. His voice deep and resonant. "It is rare for a Dúnedain to tread these halls."
"The rarity makes it all the more worthwhile," you quip back not missing a beat. Legolas who was standing a few steps behind raises his eyebrows in surprise at the ease with which you banter with his father.
Thranduil lets out a soft, almost imperceptible chuckle. A sound few have heard. "Indeed," he replies. His eyes reflecting a spark of amusement. "Let us hope your journey proves beneficial for us all."
You meet his gaze with a steady, confident look. "From what I’ve heard Mirkwood could use a fresh perspective. Perhaps I can offer one."
He does not look offended only amused. "An interesting assertion," Thranduil remarks. His tone still cool but tinged with curiosity. "Many have come claiming the same, yet few have left their mark. What makes you different Dúnedain?" You knew what he was doing. Throwing your mortality in your face but it didn’t change your stance.
"My heritage might be human, Thranduil. But my experiences are as varied as the leaves of your forest," you respond smoothly. "And like the leaves I believe in change and adaptation."
Thranduil studies you for a moment. His expression unreadable. Then, almost imperceptibly, the corner of his mouth quirks up. "You speak boldly for one so young by elven standards. It is refreshing... and rare."
Gimli who had been quietly observing the exchange, leans over and nudges Legolas in the side with his elbow. He whispers just loud enough for Legolas to hear, "Seems like your father might have met his match, eh, lad? Better keep an eye on these two." His chuckle breaks your concentration with the king. Legolas shoots Gimli a slight glare, but there's a hint of amusement in his eyes. He couldn't deny the intriguing dynamic unfolding before him. His friend's words carried a hint of truth that piqued his curiosity even more even if they were whispered in jest.
The king's demeanor remains composed yet there’s a glint of respect in his eyes that wasn’t there before. "Very well, Lady of the Dúnedain. Let us see what changes you bring to Mirkwood. For better or for worse… it shall be interesting." Thranduil watches you closely. His initial skepticism slowly morphing into a newfound curiosity about your presence. Your ability to hold your ground in this ancient and enigmatic court hints at the intriguing days to come.
Tumblr media
In the following days your interactions with King Thranduil shift from formalities to more substantial exchanges. You find yourselves often walking together through the lush, verdant gardens of the palace. The air filled with the earthy scent of moss and the distant sound of a waterfall. Thranduil who was typically reserved with his emotions began to open up under the canopy of ancient trees that have seen the passing of many ages.
One afternoon Thranduil shares with you the tale of his wife. The love he lost to the shadows of the past. His voice which was usually so commanding and steady, carries a subtle tremor as he speaks of the battles fought and the peace that never came. "Time has a way of healing, yet also of deepening the scars," he says quietly while looking out over a mist-covered lake.
You listen intently. Your heart softening towards the elven king who has borne much grief. "Even the mightiest of trees were once just seeds, my lord," you respond gently, touching his arm. "They grow, they endure, and sometimes, they too must learn to thrive anew after a storm."
Thranduil's gaze meets yours. The usual frost in his eyes thawing slightly. He nods slowly. A silent acknowledgment of the truth in your words. In these shared moments a mutual understanding blossoms between you. Both of you were shaped by loss yet you were still standing. Still reaching towards the light.
On a quiet evening a few days later you and Thranduil find yourselves beside the silver-threaded streams that lace through the forest. The conversation turns to the philosophical, exploring the ephemeral nature of beauty and life itself. "All things of grace and beauty such that one holds them to one's heart have a common provenance in pain. Their birth in grief and ashes," Thranduil muses. His gaze distant, reflecting the shimmering water.
"I know the pain of loss, too," you share softly while meeting his eyes. "But I also know that every moment of joy we find after loss is a treasure." Your words seem to strike a chord in Thranduil. His usual reserve melting away slightly as he considers your perspective.
In the following days the air between you grows warmer. It was filled with a quiet understanding. Legolas watches this growing bond with a mix of hope and worry. He approaches his father one crisp morning with caution in his voice. "Father, do you not fear the heartache that may come? She is mortal you know this. Her years will not touch yours."
Thranduil's response comes after a thoughtful pause, his eyes reflecting a depth of emotion rarely seen by others. "Indeed, Legolas. I am aware of the shadows that time casts. But should we forsake the warmth of the sun for fear of the night’s chill? The joy she brings… the companionship we share, I find it to be a balm for many old wounds."
This acknowledgment marks a turning point. Thranduil begins to openly cherish the moments you share whether in laughter over a shared meal or in quiet solidarity during council meetings. He learns to embrace the present, the here and now with you by his side. He was learning to find joy in the everyday moments that life offers. Your presence brings a light to Mirkwood that had not been seen for many years. And brought to Thranduil’s heart a renewed sense of hope and happiness however transient it might be.
It was on one of these seemingly standard days that you and Thranduil find yourselves walking along a secluded path beside the murmuring streams. The serene sounds of the forest envelop you both. A gentle symphony that seems to slow the passage of time.
As the gentle evening breeze stirs the leaves, Thranduil stops before turning to face you with a look of resolve mixed with a hint of vulnerability. "The time is nearing when Legolas and Gimli will continue their journeys, exploring lands beyond our borders," he begins. His voice low and tinged with a somber note.
You nod with a sense of impending change hanging in the air between you.
Thranduil takes a deep breath, his gaze searching yours. "I find myself at a crossroads of selfishness and reason," he confesses. "Every part of me knows I should encourage you to see the world with them. To experience all that life has to offer. Yet..." He pauses while looking at you, his eyes reflecting the soft starlight. "Yet, I find myself wishing you would stay. Here. With me."
The honesty in his words touches you deeply, and you reach out, taking his hand. "Thranduil, I..."
He gently squeezes your hand. His other hand coming up to lightly touch your cheek. "I know it is much to ask, and perhaps it is more for my own heart's ease than for your good. But you have brought light into the shadows of these woods and into the shadow of my heart. If you would stay, I would have us spend every moment that fate allows us together."
You feel the weight and warmth of his words wrap around you like a cloak. "I have wandered through middle earth to its extent and seen many wonders, Thranduil," you reply softly. Your decision clear in your heart even before he asked. "But here with you, I have found a wonder that surpasses them all. I will stay. Not out of duty. Not out of necessity. But because I want to, my lord."
A smile that was as rare as it was radiant breaks across Thranduil’s usually composed face. "Then let us not count the days but make the days count," he says while drawing you closer. "For however long we have."
The decision to stay in Mirkwood was sealed by the simplicity of your shared love. It casts a new light over your days together. Despite the challenges that remain your acceptance of each other, and the transient nature of happiness only serves to deepen the love that blossoms between you. It enriched every moment you share amid the timeless woods.
As the seasons change in Mirkwood so too does the nature of your relationship with Thranduil. The initial sparks of curiosity and mutual understanding kindle into a deeper, more profound connection. You find yourselves often lost in conversation, or simply enjoying the peaceful silence that only true companionship can afford. Despite the knowledge of inevitable parting due to your mortality you both decide to embrace the present. Instead letting your affection for each other grow into love.
The palace gardens that were once a place of solitude for Thranduil become a frequent meeting spot for the two of you. Surrounded by ancient trees and the gentle sounds of the forest you share stories, laughter, and plans for the future of Mirkwood. The joy and peace you find in each other's company seem to breathe new life into the still-recovering woodland realm and even the elves begin to notice a change in their king. A lightness to his step and a warmth in his eyes that had been absent for ages.
However, your blossoming love does not come without its challenges. Thranduil's fears of loss are never fully quieted, echoing in his moments of solitude. The differences between your races occasionally give rise to tensions. Moreover, political pressures mount as not all in the elven court or beyond are pleased with a human holding such influence over their king. Rumors and skepticism swirl through the corridors of the palace adding a strain to the harmony you both cherish.
Despite these hurdles the two of you find strength in your unity. Thranduil had grown inspired by your vitality and strength. He learns to appreciate the present like never before. Savoring each day he gets to spend with you. One evening under a canopy of stars, Thranduil speaks words that both acknowledge the reality of your situation and celebrate the beauty of your bond. "Life is fleeting for some, enduring for others, but it is the living of it, the moments we share, that truly defines its value," he reflects. His voice steady and sure.
You nod as your hand found his, an unspoken agreement passing between you. The both of you decide to make the most of the time you have, regardless of its length. This acceptance brings a new depth to your relationship, allowing you both to live fully in the moments you create together whether they be marked by laughter or contemplation.
The acceptance of the transient nature of your happiness does not diminish it; rather, it enriches the love you share. Making each moment more precious. Thranduil finds a new perspective on life, one that values the joys of the present over the fears of the future. The love that blooms between you, against all odds, becomes proof to the power of embracing the now, whatever may come later.
But even time has a way of catching you. As it weaves its inevitable tapestry the lines of age begin to grace your features, each one a mark of the vibrant life you've shared with Thranduil in Mirkwood. Thranduil who was ever timeless in his elven beauty watches the subtle changes with a mix of admiration and a deep-seated fear of impending loss. The thought of a future without you by his side casts a shadow over his heart. One that grows with each passing day.
Driven by a love that has transcended the bounds of time and race Thranduil seeks a way to keep the two of you together. In a move born of desperation and deep love, he reaches out to Galadriel, one of the few with the power and wisdom to alter your fate. His plea is heartfelt: to allow both of you passage to the Undying Lands where time could no longer claim its toll on your mortal soul.
Galadriel who had observed the sorrows and joys of middle earth for ages was moved by the depth of Thranduil's love. She consents. "Let there be no more heartbreak," she declares, granting Thranduil the rare opportunity to vacate his kingship and travel to a land of peace with you.
The days that follow are bittersweet as you and Thranduil prepare for this final voyage. Legolas understood the significance of this decision. He steps forward to assume the role of king. His pride and readiness to lead assure both you and Thranduil that Mirkwood remains in capable hands.
Your farewells are heartfelt and tearful. Legolas embraces you both. His eyes shining with unshed tears but also with pride and joy for the new life you will start. "Go with peace, my father, and my friend," he whispers. "May the shores of Valinor bring you the tranquility you deserve."
Your brother Aragorn and his queen, Arwen, come to bid you goodbye, their faces a mixture of sorrow and happiness. "Sister, your happiness has always been my own," Aragorn says, clasping your hands. "May the stars shine brightly on your path."
As you stand beside Thranduil waiting to board the ship that would carry you to the Undying Lands you feel a profound sense of peace. The sea's openness echoes the vastness of the journey you've undertaken together. From the courts of Mirkwood to this final, eternal embarkation.
As the ship sails away, you stand beside Thranduil, his hand in yours. You watch middle earth fade into the distance, a land rich with memories and echoes of ancient songs. Turning to face the horizon where new beginnings and timeless shores await, you find solace in the shared silence that speaks volumes between you and Thranduil.
Looking up at the eternal stars glittering in the sky Thranduil speaks softly, a deep reverence in his voice. "Beyond the furthest shores, under the watch of the undying stars, we find our path anew."
You nod. The profound weight of his words mingling with the sea breeze. "Let the stars guide us as we journey forth into this ageless night." Together you sail into the undying light of Valinor, where the bounds of time no longer tether your spirits. In this new realm your love finds its place among the eternal sustained by the timeless peace of the undying lands.

I need Bingge yuan harem. Concubine SY, especially if he was bride napped. I want Bingge jealous of his own harem bcus it feels like punching cotton the way SY’s well adjusted and unbothered.
Bing: WDYM HE’S NOT ANGRY I HAVEN’T TURNED HIS NAME PLATE?? WHY IS HE NOT SCHEMING?
I want all the hallmarks of palace intrigue!!
SY getting sick from a lack of firewood in his palace. ZZL, his servant, stopping BH’s palanquin at the risk of death. Bowing to the emperor to ask for an imperial physician.
And Bingge trying to be nonchalant, but follows after the physician, asks the royal kitchen to make the most precious nourishing soup. ((He eventually cooks it himself after being so worried)).
Bingge’s interest starts to build. Secretly going (peeping) in the royal gardens as SY spends his time observing the flowers in full bloom. Trying his best to casually make an entrance.
Bingge’s bday banquet comes along, with priceless gifts stacked as far as the eye can see.
SY (w/ no powerful backing) procuring a small jade charm and medicinal sachet with hand embroidered details. Bingge directly asking for where SY’s gift is and keeping it on his person.
And every time after they meet Bingge thinks SY would invite him to stay the night, but he doesn’t. Bingge doesn’t need to ask, he knows. Taking SY as a concubine was a joke. But now he was getting serious about wanting him, to want it. For wanting SY to ask for it.
So he pulls his wild nature back and pretends to be soft and harmless. He always flips his name plate but never stays the night. Sometimes SY plays the qin for him, or sings, sometimes it’s just sending gifts or conversations during meals. Bingge wants his company the most.
Hell, maybe I can introduce a common enemy which allows the northern and southern kingdoms to unite (and get my moshang fix).
SY decides to follow Bingge in war while the rest of the harem stays back. He says he isn’t as delicate and he would follow Bingge through this hardship
Bingge doesn’t allow this but SY sneaks out anyway. With only the clothes on his back, some food and a dagger he travels up north to be w/ Bingge.
(Angst) Of course he’s captured along the way. And forced to become a courtesan. They meet again with SY under a new identity as a gift in the name of diplomacy.
Bingge feels betrayed, all this time? Was it all for this? Was he meant to fall in love and give away his kingdom?
After months of not seeing each other, all the hurt, confusion and longing was surmised in Bingge’s “is he good in bed?”
And he didn’t mean to say that. Especially seeing SY’s eyes glisten and his lips upturned in a sad smile. But the diplomat said how well behaved he is, how good he is.
SY bowed down and answered “my services have always been top notch.”
They fuck. Not in the way he imagined; Nothing of that sort of slow and careful lovemaking w soft whispers and laughter. There was no tenderness at all.
As SY expertly swallowed his dick, rather than bliss there was a feeling of loss in his heart. His most precious treasure, how did he become like this?
‘Was this your plan, all along?’
‘You can think what you want.’
And with that there were no more words between them. Only heavy pants and bruising bites and lots of kisses.
There were time when Bingge thought SY loved him. Maybe it was when he tried pulling out and SY locked his ankles around his hips begging him to stay inside. Maybe it was when he willingly put his arms above his head as Bingge restrained him roughly or maybe it was how he looked at him, tears falling, back arched trying to accommodate all that Bingge could give.
But Bingge would not think of that anymore. The peace talks commenced, the world condemned this stupid emperor. Honey trapped!! By a male courtesan at that!!
Most changed their mind and thought that they would be better off being a vassal state, cursing the emperor.
What the world didn’t know was the rivaling kingdom never meant to let them off. As drought became worse and tithes more absurd, the people only suffered.
Of course SY has had been slowly feeding the North intel with the help of ZZL. 🤩 He used his unique position to learn their schemes but did not tell Bingge.
At this time Bingge was essentially on house arrest, to ensure that they would push through with the treaty.
The Northern Consort schemed while his husband raised their joint army, readying to storm the rivaling kingdom.
They battle it out, and the forces of LBH and MBJ win decisively.
SY looks for Bingge, afraid of being left behind, of being disdained for the rest of his life.
In true palace intrigue fashion, he comes in time, just as someone was about to plunge a dagger into Bingge. He sacrifices himself instead.
There was no need I love yous or I’m sorrys. He knew he was loved. maybe it was a change of heart? Bingge thought.
But talking to MBJ, Bingge realized how wrong he had been. How painstakingly he helped, hiding in plain sight. And through it all, how he carried it all alone.
ZZL tended to his master choking back sobs. He could not help but feel aggrieved.
‘I should have stayed with him, this was all my fault. I should have never listened to him.’
‘What do you mean?’ Bingge arrived shortly after.
‘My master, told me to buy food in the city. I knew he was hiding something.
He left me a letter saying not to worry, that he’ll be running after the emperor’s envoy.’
‘I looked for him but only found his horse and drag marks in the soil. Later I heard he was taken by force.’
Bingge’s knees buckled from the weight of this revelation but he still crawled towards SY’s bed. How harsh had he treated him the first time they met again. How cruel were his words?
As Bingge grasped that gift SY painstakingly made for his birthday, he whispered, ‘SY, wake up, I will never wrong you again in this lifetime. Please wake up.’
But there was only a deafening silence in response.
SY woke up 5 days later, thank god that dagger was not poisoned or it would’ve been a different ending!!
Bingge tended to SY since then, practically a roundworm in his belly. The harem could NOT even visit him for long periods of time lest they draw the ire of a very jealous emperor!
Food was always prepared by Bingge. A truckload of new exquisite clothes was received. It was rumored that SY was so favoured that his palace was inlaid with gold, silver and precious stones.
But more than changes since then, they’ve decided to return to how they were. Bingge would visit him while SY played for him or sang. SY would frolic in the royal gardens, but this time Bingge would accompany him.
And when Bingge was invited to stay the night? They lay a white sheet on top of their bed rather quickly, yet spent the night in an almost torturous simmer. Getting reacquainted w e/o bodies between lots of hot kisses, bruising grips and soft laughter.
The outside world thought it was a truly ridiculous situation. A foolish emperor who surrendered it all for a male courtesan. And a male courtesan who was worth a whole kingdom, yet haphazardly threw his life for an impending puppet emperor.
But as the story was passed on, and the truth was revealed, the once absurd tale was changed to a story of an enduring love between the emperor and his favored male concubine.

Hunter's Experiences After Belos's Death
Tumblr media
Oops, this got long. Aw well, it was really fun to write.
Special thanks to @ashanimus!
This is speculative at the end of the day, but since:
1. This is my fave animated show of all time
2. I grew up with Complex PTSD (CPTSD) like Hunter
3. I work as a therapist,
I thought to list down some things I can visualize happening in the duration of the finale's timeskip, before that beautiful epilogue we saw. And I want to dive in using whatever clues, leads and parallels I can find in canon: to analyze and see how he went from the Bad But Sad Boy to that peaceful-looking palisman carver in the epilogue.
A small reference I had for this meta is Cinema Therapy's episode on the Hunger Games movies (link), since the protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, from the book and also movie trilogy would have the same diagnosis as Hunter. Those books and movies explored how Katniss coped with the frightening and dramatically different landscape that was the calmness of her world post-victory.
Part 1: His Possible Experiences Leading Up to Seeking a Therapist
His disposition could possibly become like Luz's from early Season 3: a state of emotionally shutting down and numbing out. He appeared to nearly head in this direction right after he was revived by Flapjack, as he began to cry. There was that small window where he could have expressed more tears than he did, and have his body shut down under the weight of bereavement.
But the immediate physical threat, Belos, was still on the run. He got up, sprang into action and didn't catch a break from the time he followed Belos through the portal until he stood in The Collector's palace after Belos died (had he even received the news of his 'Uncle' dying yet??!).
Now that Belos isn't around anymore, the Isles will have a completely different feel and rebuilding the land would've taken grueling work after the dismantling of a damaging Coven System.
I was looking at Luz's behavior and gestures in Thanks to Them, which were indicative of her sinking into depression after 1. the horrible revelation in Hollow Mind that she unintentionally helped Philip. 2. witnessing Flapjack's death. I'm putting screenshots of her below in parallel with Hunter's own emotions in For the Future:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They have different mental health conditions if you talk symptoms, e.g. Luz doesn't show signs of CPTSD hypervigilance, while Hunter doesn't have that slowing down in his physical and mental activity which points to depression. But both have suffered from moral injury thanks to Belos's violence and manipulation.
However, a major comparison is that Hunter has had much more repressed emotion over a long period compared to Luz. The column with Hunter screencaps above, is what he may feel with a much higher intensity in the weeks and months after he first hears that his abuser has passed on.
Shown below, the few seconds of Hunter's big smile drooping when it was all over, was a big hint for me:
Tumblr media
A hint that there is a deep undercurrent of emotions he'd much rather not feel, that he'd probably rather hide from himself. Even while smiling, we know how his heart-wrenching story has played out and the light in his eyes here doesn't match the brightness we see in his expressions in the epilogue, post-timeskip.
That is the face of a kid who has not cried out massive amounts of tears yet. He doesn't look like he's carrying a light load yet, compared to what we see in his future self. And it's certainly a heavier smile than the jollier one he makes here right after King's Tide when Flapjack was still around:
Tumblr media
I can't imagine the amount of grief that his body has yet to dredge up and release, once he finally doesn't have to worry about his 'uncle' threatening his life anymore. Too many times to count, I've been in the situation where I cry intensely after being retraumatized and think "Huh? More tears? Where did it come from?? I thought I had cried it all out from my whole being the last time!". It kind of convinced me that anyone with CPTSD has so much grief stored up in their body that the number of times needed to have a good cry feels like a really endless expanse.
However: because I had 7 years of being in and out of therapy, what matters is that the durations between these episodes of mine, the durations of the episodes themselves, plus their intensity have reduced a lot. It was around a 4-year timeskip in the finale, so for Hunter to get as far as he did to heal, his own therapy sessions would've probably been rigorous and very consistent.
Anyway, he might now cycle through his own version of what Luz cycled through when she gradually shuts down from failing to build a new portal door in Thanks to Them, continually believes she's as bad as Belos, and when she alludes to her suicidal ideation in the classroom:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
whereby there is a likely parallel between Luz wrestling with guilt from her own moral injury, and Hunter's own guilt from what he wished he could've done to prevent being possessed, to prevent Flapjack from dying. Both their situations are that of moral injuries.
The adrenaline rush would be over for everyone on the Isles.
I'm quite sure the therapists on the Isles will operate pretty soon after the news about Belos's death was out. They would conduct whatever version of mental health triage they have, that involves risk assessments and crisis counselling. Both of these based on what I've learnt are shorter in duration (30 minutes) and are one-off sessions, compared to regular talk therapy which is an hour minimum.
The therapists would be redirecting people to necessary resources e.g. where to find food or loved ones, and managing distress only related to people's immediate needs instead of forming a longer term plan for several weekly sessions.
I believe things are simpler when you are running away from an external threat, like the two Hunter scenarios below. In Hollow Mind there is no emotion on his face because in peak C-PTSD mode he has shut down his emotions to pour that energy into escaping Belos. In Thanks to Them, he appears quite obviously scared with widened eyes because he got comfortable with safety for months and Belos's return was a surprise attack (thanks ashanimus for pointing out to me how his expressions are animated!):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But what is there to run from now? Not an external threat for sure. The war zone is now the one in his mind, heart and soul and it would become front and center. I believe both these screenshots are two notches on a dial, and the missing third image - which would show him finding it difficult to stuff down the grief any longer, might look like a more exasperated version of when he told Willow "Please don't call yourself [a Half-a-Witch] ever again" in For the Future, and eventually a more depressed version of his vanishing smile in The Collector's Palace.
When can he really run from himself? Only while asleep, if he's spared nightmares on any given night, or while distracting himself with the main mission of rebuilding the Isles or continuing to bond with his friends and other people.
His anger in For the Future was a telling sign for me that he made sure his focus was still on an external threat: he still had the opportunity to do so back then, because Belos was still alive. But when we see him in The Collector's palace sending Willow off to her dads, there has realistically been a shift in what will threaten the more fragile shreds of inner peace he's still clinging on to. There are those scary trauma-related emotions to worry about, which wouldn't have just evaporated into thin air. They would be looking for a new outlet, and they'll find their way into flashbacks, nightmares, tension still stored in the body, an exaggerated startle response, etc.
We have seen a range of reactions he has to danger, triggers and emotional pain: some involve moving his body more, and fewer involve a short of shutting down:
Flinching during Belos's tantrums, being able to fight Kikimora calmly, freezing up in the throne room (Hunting Palismen)
Suicidal ideation and even a sort of suicide plan (Eclipse Lake)
Freezing up and expecting punishment from Darius (Any Sport in a Storm)
Being able to stay almost entirely calm as he learnt more and more of the truth about Belos, though his hand was shaking briefly, then a panic attack later on (Hollow Mind)
Lots of avoidance symptoms like numbing, combined with hypervigilance e.g. shivering and another panic attack (Labyrinth Runners)
Feeling fear with underlying shame and subconsciously expecting punishment, when he failed to save Luz (Clouds on the Horizon)
Freezing and recoiling, though he fought against this by asserting a boundary with Belos (King's Tide)
Panic attack when looking into the mirror and having an emotional flashback, hypervigilance e.g. stamping his foot and shivering (Thanks to Them)
Anger and rage to cope with bereavement, later being tearful (For the Future)
Most likely a sense of bereavement, deep exhaustion and possibly loneliness, during that briefly shown moment in The Collector's Palace (Watching and Dreaming)
The serious work he has to put in to heal from his trauma would begin once his whole body gives in to the exhaustion, catching up with the bereavement-related emotions that have also begun to settle in. It could be a massive emotional and physical collapse that he can't fight off, where his physical energy levels become tanked seemingly out of nowhere. And I think it would look like a worse version of him lying in his makeshift grave, where he is barely able to move around the house or anywhere for some time.
This happened to Katniss in the Hunger Games trilogy, and while the portrayal was done differently in the books and movies, both were good explorations of what it's like to shift from the default high alert (and long-term) mode of CPTSD to coping with the scary unknown world of newfound safety. Katniss spent her childhood in poverty and being constantly on edge that she might be chosen for the Hunger Games, being parentified, to provide for her family.
While participating in the games, she had to utilize battle skills and kill others to survive and sustained many injuries, still constantly on high alert whereby any respite would last for incredibly short durations. Towards the end of the story, after she loses the one she loved most (her sister Prim, who I think can be a parallel of Flapjack in this meta), Katniss shifts from peak physical activity into mostly sleeping and being actively suicidal for months, hardly moving and not leaving the house, until the shock of traumatic grief began to wear off. She absolutely crashed and went from one extreme to the other. In the movie Mockingjay Part 2, they added a non-book scene where her grief comes out in an outburst when she sees their pet cat hanging around on the kitchen counter. She flings an object in the cat's direction, then screams "[Prim] is gone!!" repeatedly before collapsing into heavy sobs, picking up the cat and holding it to her chest to soothe herself.
This kind of major collapse might happen very soon to Hunter after he leaves The Collector's Palace or only after some weeks. The timing of this, I can't predict. The reason why he didn't appear to have this issue in the early months being in the human realm is because there was still something external to concentrate on: help his friends get back to the Human Realm, help Luz reunite with Eda and King, while him and Flapjack hoped to go home too.
You could argue that even now, he still has something external to focus on i.e. helping the others rebuild the Isles. However I keep imagining that the people who love him are going to be quite adamant in getting him, Luz and the other kids to please rest. Since we saw Steve recommend his therapist to Lilith in O Titan Where Art Thou, I can picture the adults in particular monitoring how Hunter is doing without Flapjack.
But if this collapse I'm speculating about doesn't happen so soon, he would be pouring himself into helping others, referencing his character-centric line all the way back in Hunting Palismen about wanting to offer help, which he utters twice in that episode. There is an overlap between this expectation he has of himself and the old habit he's at risk of falling back into periodically: overworking.
Once his desire to help others is clearly comes across as an avoidance tactic on the outside - a maladaptive coping mechanism to run from the very difficult emotions that he should be processing - people around him are definitely going to set boundaries and say "No" to any attempts he makes to assist them. Someone is probably going to tell him that whatever desperation he is showing in wanting to help other people, needs to be redirected at himself. Making time and space for himself, taking time off to rest.
Him suffering from a major emotional and physical collapse is pretty likely because things are more complicated (though, physically much much safer) for him now than at the beginning of Thanks to Them when he had just fled from Belos to the human realm, and had Flapjack as his closest company. Fast forward to the victory won in Watching and Dreaming: both Flapjack and Belos are gone now.
It's telling that different thoughts are occupying Hunter's mind now, from how his expressions are drawn during his first days in the human realm vs. when peace is restored in the Isles.
1. See the sense of calmer urgency in his expression, putting the mission of building the portal door first, while experiencing a strong sense of togetherness with his friends, and learning to trust Camila who is treating him well:
Tumblr media
compared to
2. the sheer exhaustion and feeling of "What now...?" (see his upper eyelids below?) that set in, once he helped Willow find her parents and there was no more task at hand that didn't involve himself. His bright smile from a split-second ago has drooped and disappeared:
Tumblr media
I know that right after the above frame, Darius and Eberwolf reunited with him, but his emotions are going to cycle up and down in the hours, weeks and months ahead. The elation from seeing Darius and Eber - people who were there to greet him when he expected nobody to turn up - is not going to last, though it will certainly come and go, because high-running positive emotions like that don't last as long, especially in the context of the life he's had as a child soldier. It's totally possible that on the same night, hours after this reunion with their loved ones, their emotions will shift drastically.
The tired look in his eyes above and the sad face he then makes, is in between two moments of him having something external to focus on (Willow and then Darius). I'm inclined to think that the above depressed look reflects a lot of the complexity that is going on underneath the surface. What is his state of mind when alone with his thoughts, when he has zero tasks to perform? How is he handling those thoughts?
There will be a deep, sometimes mind-numbing sense of bereavement over two significant figures in his life. First Flapjack, now this:
Tumblr media
He used to love Belos. But I'm really not sure he can just uproot that love from deep within and discard it. Hunter carries memories like the following ones around which will be confusing to navigate on tougher days, despite being able to tell Luz "That's what Belos does, he tricks people". Because these were his formative years:
Tumblr media
and something tells me that Philip was cunning enough to strike a delicate balance between being 'nice' to Hunter like above, versus unleashing his violent temper to terrify and harm him. Making sure that balance was so close to 50/50 that it would leave a child very confused. So confused he would rather believe he's never good enough rather than the more frightening prospect that his so-called family does not actually love him at all.
Hunter will have a moment now and then of still missing the 'niceness' that his 'uncle' showed towards him (felt in his heart and subconscious), while still knowing (in his head, rationally) that Philip was not genuine when treating him that way.
To note though, he did not witness Belos's death which reduces the severity of intrusive images that the poor kid would see in his mind.
What I'm worried about is how he'll handle the news about the grimwalker graveyard, since I'm sure that location is going to be scoured and Darius would want to give his mentor a proper sending off. They'd want to give all the Golden Guards and Caleb a sending off and pay their respects. This might add to what I suspect will be the messed up depression he'll fall into.
It will be very confusing and emotionally disorienting, literally not needing to worry about anyone killing him anymore. He has had no point of reference for this in his life at all. It might possibly the furthest he ever goes from that primal survival instinct he had while living in the Castle for so long, which took up the majority of his life so far:
Tumblr media
There will also be the added layer of how he feels about those first emotions. This is literally a concept called Feelings About Feelings and it's a key part of my work since I use the Satir Model in my style of counselling. We don't just feel emotions, we also tack on our own judgments and evaluations about them. E.g. shame about feeling anger, guilt about feeling sad because of burdening others, or even a combination like fear about feeling joy which can show up in healing from bereavement.
Depending on how we feel about whichever emotions got there first, it makes a difference because we could be adding or subtracting unnecessary suffering from the first emotion, especially if the first emotion is an already unpleasant one.
I have a feeling that we'd see Hunter look very very tired, till he makes breakthroughs in therapy. A tiredness that sleep, a healthy diet and exercise alone simply cannot fix. Because there's an entire upbringing in the Emperor's Coven to sort through in his head, this time not combined with the avoidance of having fled to the human realm and living under one roof with his friends.
The Hexsquad are not living under the same roof anymore, they are reunited with their own families with much to emotionally talk out, and the group no longer has a very urgent single collective mission. Sure, Hunter has an active role to play in rebuilding the Isles, but what about rebuilding his very self? He has the steepest climb, because we have seen the symptoms he exhibits.
Most of all, referencing a section of my Retraumatization and Self-Soothing (Part 1) meta (link), a memory as horrible as this:
Tumblr media
will likely be the most intrusive image is going to be replaying again and again over the months to come, and it may flood his thoughts during moments of being triggered or even out of nowhere during quiet moments for no apparent reason. It will be just like a broken record, where the same small excerpt of a song loops endlessly until the needle of the gramophone is repositioned.
It was remarkably poignant that his final words to Belos were "And most of all, I'm going to make sure you never hurt anyone again", and I'm happy with the story keeping it this way and understand why the writers likely made this decision - not just because the season was shortened. Hunter did not need to directly see or hear more from Belos in close quarters, not after his abuser minimized his needs for years, gaslit him, possessed him and got him to murder his best friend with his own hands.
It's more straightforward to make sure someone else isn't hurting anyone. It's easier to think of what plans to implement, when it comes to him protecting others: which he has had plenty of practice with. Because those are practical methods that we can see in action on the outside.
But here's the kicker: what about applying that last grand statement from his TTT speech to himself, emotionally: making sure he isn't psychologically hurting himself with harmful unhelpful thoughts and beliefs, after Belos's death? "I'll make sure I don't hurt myself (and by extension, my loved ones) again".
This will be very new to him, and it is a theme that I handle in pretty much every client case in my therapy work. The client's self-dialogue, the self-compassion or lack thereof. Which, in real life, is often not a concept that our own families and schools introduce to us to be familiar with.
For Hunter, this may translate into him making the decision to get help and truly accepting the gift of life that Flapjack gave him.
Basically this on a much bigger scale:
Tumblr media
whereby in Flapjack's absence, he can truly believe in this new and positive fundamental belief about himself. The evidence that he managed to make it to that heartbreaking but incredibly beautiful place is pretty strong:
Tumblr media
But before his happy ending, the pressure on himself to be useful to others via helping and working is likely going to come back and be used as his way of coping, and there's a chance it will cross the line into becoming a form of self-harm that he's relying on to avoid the frightening, deeper emotional pain. People around him know him well enough that they'll be able to spot his behavioral changes and then sense he is not going in a helpful direction. They'll see that it's hurting him even though it's the most familiar territory for his mind to be in, and someone is going to tell him to change that.
He's going to be seeing his friends with their palismen. How will it be like being among them, even if they are pretty good at supporting him? How would he attempt to make sense of the void that is the absence of the incredible love he experienced from that first friend, the absence of that mental link between witch and palisman?
What emotions could be lurking beneath the surface? Believe it or not, there are some signs from Luz's nightmare even though yes, Hunter was being controlled by The Collector. I wouldn't quickly dismiss this dark Flapjack-related scene as 100% being about The Collector's goal to scare Luz in the nightmare.
I think there was a smaller subplot going on as well.
The Collector needed material to work with in the first place, to perform the puppet acts: the material was whatever fears and whatever pain was already there in their targets.
Tumblr media
The Collector didn't create Hunter's emotions from scratch for the puppet act; instead he manipulated and redirected what existed at the base level. All this wouldn't work as analogies of mental illness vs. mental health if The Collector could just engineer emotions on their own and simply replace whatever his puppet targets were already feeling. Emotions never vanish and always take up space somewhere, they are redirected, transformed or channeled into outlets even if it means they become repressed or locked away. But they never stop existing.
I have a feeling that despite the nightmare being Luz's, despite Hunter being used as an instrument for The Collector to achieve their goals...the pre-existing emotions that Hunter himself felt in his body, not puppet!Hunter's verbal responses towards Luz, were true. He is a haunted boi.
Tumblr media
This face he makes above might be a hint at the worst of his pain. It might be the furthest he has felt from when he said "I like who I am right now" to Flapjack. In the place of that confidence from before, there might now be his own version of Luz's "I'm as bad as Belos". I cannot be entirely certain, but the negative belief that may have taken root in him could be "I am not deserving of the life Flapjack gave me".
Interestingly, if this is the case, it could easily parallel his line from all the way back in Any Sport in A Storm: "I'm unfit to wear the sigil of the Golden Guard." It's definitely a possibility, since Hunter is now faced with having a lot of time and space now, and less urgency than he's ever had in his life, to think back on all those times he helped to further Belos's cause. Especially when it came to sending many palismen to their deaths.
With his own palisman now dead, the engraving we would eventually see on Flapjack's grave: "Thank you for finding me", would be the destination. But the journey needed to reach that destination of amazing gratitude in the first place...must have been a harrowing one. In the early months of the acute grief, it would've been more like "Why did you have to find me?! You shouldn't have. Then none of this would've happened". Not forgetting the number of times Hunter has replayed in his head what he could've done differently, trying so desperately to rewind the clock and make that better alternate timeline a reality.
If you remove The Collector and even Luz from the equation in the Luz nightmare scene, Hunter may well be having such responses - the ones that puppet!Hunter directed at Luz to blame Luz - as a dialogue with himself. He might direct those negative emotions towards himself since he's so careful about hurting others and has taken on unfair punishment for so much of his life.
Even when he was temporarily himself, smiling, expressing a positive emotion to encourage Luz with "What's the first thing you do when you wake up from a bad dream?", that was him conversing with another person, someone external. Not his own self. I am willing to bet he wasn't at a point in his arc where he would smile at himself like that and easily encourage himself in the same way.
While we can be certain he had already reached his breakthroughs by the time we saw him post-timeskip, he has not experienced them yet in the frame above. He has not felt (yet) what Luz felt onscreen when she had breakthroughs in relation to her moral injury:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taking a leap of faith to accept the Titan's gift, to trust that he chose her because she has a good heart and will never be Belos.
Then later, being able to stand firm, believing she truly is good ("I am the Good Witch Luz!"), and not uttering a word to Belos as he died - which was post-traumatic growth beyond how she broke down under his threats and manipulation towards the end of Hollow Mind and later in King's Tide.
Recap time. In the (quite likely) long period that passes by before we meet his new palismen, he's likely going to want to jump into action and attend meetings with Darius, Eberwolf and co, help to physically rebuild things and organize people with his own Coven Head experience. Leaning back on the ingrained and familiar lifestyle of pouring himself into work and gearing towards burnout is certainly a risk to watch out for.
The Hexsquad, CATTs and the Clawthorne sisters are going to notice his behavior and likely urge him to get appropriate rest and seek help.
However, there is the other extreme: Belos isn't around anymore to torment him, and Hunter would know this in the rational sense (head knowledge). Which leads to the possibility that he may swing towards shutting down as opposed to overworking tendencies. He would feel allowed to do whatever he wants, in this new Boiling Isles, and he had months of opportunities to do that in the early part of Thanks to Them before Belos's return.
What I'm getting at is, if he didn't sleep enough before, he might swing towards sleeping too much after finally collapsing from the familiarity of survival mode into unknown but genuinely safe territory. If he cared too much about helping others before, he might swing towards a depressive state of apathy (the closest canon reference point would be him digging his grave: he was very disarmed in that scene to even think much about helping anyone including Belos). This is why the screenshot I used of his smile drooping in The Collector's Palace, feels like a big clue to me. This would be where Darius, Camila and other adults have to seriously keep watch over him.
In the Cinema Therapy episode I had as a small reference for this post, the licensed therapist who hosts the series mentions that "It takes a lot longer to put oneself back together than it took to fall apart." In Hunter's case, the "falling apart" period here refers to that collapsing I mentioned. It would be the time between:
1. the grief hitting him in full force: when he subconsciously understands and acknowledges that Flapjack isn't coming back (which...will involve hell of a lot of wailing and sobbing. Him having a full version cry of those first few tears he shed at the end of TTT),
and
2. the time when the painful shock from feeling the full force of the grief has decreased enough that it plateaus.
This falling apart stage may need to pass before he seeks therapy. If he tries going for sessions while still going through that shock and pain, it might be too much for him.
As terrible and sad as it sounds, a deep dark spiral like this might be necessary. It would be his body and mind wanting to compensate for several years' worth of unnatural hypervigilance which wasn't serving him in a advantageous way (i.e. surviving) any longer. His body and mind begging for rest at last, to try and make sense of everything that happened. This big collapse into depression would empty out the old and free up much room in him for new stories, beliefs and perspectives to take root. Depression is, after all, the body's attempt to (maladaptively) try and protect us by numbing us, or else we would be overwhelmed.
As someone whom we know keeps himself very busy, this could be the period where he is the furthest he has ever been from that old simpler life. Because his CPTSD-ridden body would be demanding more than ever that he compensates for a childhood and teen years' lack of general rest, he may not even have the strength to cope the way he did before. The only way he might possibly cope in this period is to go with the flow of that raging current and do exactly what his body is asking of him: getting real rest.
Like what happened with Katniss in the Hunger Games trilogy, this early grieving stage would emotionally be difficult and terrifying, like walking along a tightrope, finding balance between left and right to angle yourself as straightly as possible and walk forward. (the tightrope metaphor is what I use with some of my clients to explain swinging between extremes of coping mechanisms).
The missing pieces of the puzzle in his arc, in the 4-year duration before the timeskip, might be his own version of these points in Luz's arc:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
where she sank lower before she realized her deepest wish and emotionally experienced her worst fear in her Watching and Dreaming nightmare.
For Hunter, these could look like the following:
Like Luz saying it'd be better for everyone that she permanently stays in the human realm, Hunter might say he wants to remove himself from his loved ones in some way, for good. Whether a literal suicide attempt (like Katniss from The Hunger Games) or not, I can't say for sure.
A parental figure trying to reach out to him, saying he is deserving of Flapjack's gift. But he still struggles to believe that. What matters though is this parental figure is present and he's not pushing them away.
Him hearing some confirmation of his deepest negative belief about himself, in his own nightmares. Like Luz hearing the most terrifying things she could ever hear - Amity's "You've been the real villain this whole time" and "But for the sake of everyone you hurt, I challenge you to a witch's [duel]".
Him being able to reach an emotional space where he can begin to question that unhelpful belief: "Am I really deserving of Flapjack's gift?", or something similar.
The big moment when he finally tells someone how he really feels about the possession, Belos's death, Flapjack's absence in this new supposed peace and quiet....this would be the important invitation for the other person to connect and meet his emotional needs, and is a lot like how support groups for addiction work: a client needs to acknowledge that they are struggling with a problem, not avoiding it with distractions any longer, and then seek help and express their need for said help.
I suppose the question is how soon Hunter might decide to accept professional help and give it a go: or whether he'd have the genuine need for space first and say "I need some time". Because one's rational mind can be ready to go for therapy, but their subconscious and body would find it too unpleasant if it's too soon. Every part of him would have to be ready to begin putting himself back together after the falling apart stage occurs.
The messed up experience of CPTSD is that you stay shockingly calm during real danger, but on the flip side have big, disproportionate freakouts during actually safe times. Compare how calm Hunter was when he smiled at Luz in her nightmare while he was tied up with puppet strings vs. his fear and shame when he couldn't save Luz in Clouds on the Horizon.
In a CPTSD memoir I read, the author describes that it was horribly frightening to hear her partner be in a bad mood and wash the dishes more loudly than usual, while during the pandemic, she felt completely calm seeing empty shelves in a supermarket when she struggled to get supplies.
From my own experience, I have experienced being pretty damn calm when bleeding out and needing hospitalization. But in a different year before that, I recall one afternoon alone in my house right before a vacation where a strong gust of wind very loudly slammed an open door shut next to where I happened to be standing, and I broke down sobbing from a retraumatization via an emotional flashback. Because it felt extremely real as if my abusive parent was lashing out to physically hurt me.
After a 5-year period of mostly being in talk therapy, and then a 2-year period of regularly scheduled EMDR therapy, my response if I have a door loudly slam shut near me now would maybe be a smaller-scale flinch and a flash of anger that would last about maybe a minute. Which is miles better than sobbing for half an hour and being dissociated and frozen in a memory for hours before I thaw out of that flashback.
Since the show's writing is just that good, I could look at Luz's depressive symptoms manifesting in Thanks to Them and see a likely parallel in Hunter's story moving forward, since we know how much this show also digs neat and tidy parallels. These are characters written for TV after all, so they'd have to fit a formula to an extent, to have compelling arcs and reach high and low points along said arcs.
Part 2: Therapy Itself
Part 1 was the setup to give a good amount of context: now for the technicalities of the therapy sessions themselves:
Like Adrian Graye said in Labyrinth Runners, Illusion Magic can sort through memories. We have seen from Gus's own powerful Illusion abilities that he could do so with Belos. It makes sense that a therapist does this in sessions to have a magnified version of how in our world, therapists exercise empathy by imagining what it is like to be their clients:
Tumblr media
I would monitor whether his mood (what he is feeling within) and affect (how the emotions appear on the outside e.g. tone of voice, face expressions) are congruent. Congruence usually means a client is in less distress. Incongruence might mean they are in so much pain that they can't connect directly with the main emotion: the perfect example of this being Hunter laughing when digging his grave.
We therapists take note of aspects such as affect, mood, the client's motor activity, any indicators of psychosis, even down to things like how untidy their hair looks in case we get clues about the severity of their issues (this is called a Mental Status Exam, and we write what we see in our case notes per session).
Because CPTSD is so relationship-centric, I'd discuss how he's getting along with new parental figures (the Belos replacements who will heal him so much and change his life forever!) and friends.
If the Boiling Isles therapists use their own equivalent of EMDR therapy, which is theorized to be like a waking version of how REM sleep and REM-related dreams help our brains to sort through memories, it sounds like a great fit for his case. This intervention involves subconscious work and could help him reshape how he experiences memories of Flapjack and Belos. EMDR clients are expected to see vivid images popping up without control in their mind during the sessions, and they are quite symbolic e.g. seeing a grey sky often indicates grief, seeing lighter colors indicates more calm. This technique helps a client's subconscious rewrite their story the way they'd like it to be, and install new positive beliefs and emotions over time.
My own example of EMDR experiences from the second half of 2019 as a client, is it majorly changed how I related to my own abuser, got me to finally feel allowed to emotionally break away from her, even though she is still alive and even lives in the same building.
In the early sessions, I saw an image of my 5-year-old self being forced to wear an ugly grey apron that my abuser used for baking. The apron is a real object, not fictional, and the emotions I felt showing up were matching with the image: feeling very uncomfortable seeing a visual representation of my abuser's hold over me.
But in a later session after a few months, guided by my therapist, I saw a vivid image of my abuser receiving a sea burial. She was lying peacefully on the water surface and sank down until she was gone. That was me subconsciously burying any expectation that she could ever provide what I needed. This was so powerful that I could go home after that session and permanently (so far) be significantly calmer around my abuser.
Therefore if Hunter goes through something like this, he'd potentially be able to put Belos to rest and have it feel very real and true: and have significantly reduced distress about Belos-related memories. There is the potential for powerful breakthroughs for him here, especially also related to Flapjack's death and how challenging it might be to carve palismen in the beginning. Especially since in the worst case scenario, even touching palistrom wood might be enough to badly trigger him. I cover this particular point a bit more in my other meta, Retraumatization and Self-Soothing (Part 1).
We would also be discussing what he's implementing into his routine and what may benefit him. I would be seeing if he is able to laugh about things, be motivated enough to be outdoors and among people, experience pleasure when creating new things, and form closer bonds with parental figures (what I just listed is to do with neurotransmitters in the brain that increase mental health: serotonin, endorphins, dopamine and oxytocin).
If I were his therapist I might suggest that whatever volunteering tasks he does, he carries those out with his friends, and time should be allocated to managing and taking care of a specific demographic: children. Because I think it'd be a safe, low stakes form of unfamiliarity for him to have enough emotional distance from his traumatic memories. Early months of acute grief usually require such emotional distance.
Having a good dose of an environment like that alongside the other tasks where he's working alongside Darius etc, could help him because kids' emotions are less complex, and their infectious laughter and fun-loving nature may play a role in helping him be more open with his own inner child. His therapist would be seeking to draw out that inner child in their sessions, and that little child would need to feel safe enough to emerge.
Importantly, his future palisman: it would've been interesting if he did what Luz did with Stringbean and allowed the palisman to be whoever they wanted to be...that would've been a nicely organic process. But even if he had a good idea to incorporate a Flapjack-like design but change details like the color, I'm sure he thought it through very well. I'm certain that this was a major topic of discussion at some stage of his therapy. Discussing the guilt he'd feel about replacing Flapjack vs. still taking Flapjack with him in a new way.
Coming from a strengths-based angle: paying attention to which of his individual strengths he is shows and recounts in the session. If he needs reminding, I could give him a simple worksheet listing various positive qualities and ask him to circle/colour in which ones he feels he has, which then prompts further discussion and questions. Lastly, a powerful tool called reframing e.g. if he says he's worried about being a nuisance to his friends, I'll point out how much he cares about their comfort and affirm that place of kindness.
Work on inviting self-compassion into how he sees himself. Is he able to view himself the way he views his friends? If he remembers the encouragement he gave to Luz about "turning on the light", I would ask him what that would look like in his own life, symbolically.
Tumblr media
Hunter's own life has been a really really bad dream for a very long time. He himself has to reach for that light switch and choose to heal by embracing Flapjack's ultimate gift to him.
And we can rest assured that Hunter did that.
Because this post-traumatic growth right here?
Tumblr media
This looks like multiple breakthroughs have taken place while he's been receiving consistent care from an excellent community. And there's no way it was an easily won victory. It has been very much hard-won, after how dark the story became in Hollow Mind and Thanks to Them, and it looks like whatever breakthroughs he had left him pleasantly surprised.
It doesn't seem like his heart and soul can contain this much joy and hope, without a very painful dismantling to have taken place first, to make room for the most unexpected treasures to fill his life back up.
The joy becomes even greater if you never would've expected it in your wildest dreams.

about your manwha AU before you had my curiosity now you have my attention, how will the three act now that they realized that Yuu was really important to them, will they try to become friends again, and will Yuu continue to ignore them? it would be funny if she ended up getting even closer to other characters like Vil, Idia and Leona and making the three jealous, because it's like that saying goes "you only value something when you lose it"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
@iamsoconfusedallofthetime
Marina, you nearly got the three new playmates that Yuu gains once she's fully detached from the boys.
The first was Leona. His brother had brought him along for some type of fitting he was doing with Crewel, and he's left to wonder the estate. He finds Yuu reading in the home library. For a second, he didn't even realize who she was because, at this point, everyone thinks Yuu is deathly ill or already dead since she refuses to leave the house or accept visitors.
Leona feels connection with this fellow sad child and he offers his hand in friendship. They spend the rest of his visit reading together in the library (Leona told his brother he met a ghost once they were back in the carriage)
Mallues, hearing Yuu's befriended KINGSCHOLAR of all people, summons Leona to the palace to intimidate ask him questions about Yuu.
Leona, loving being superior to anyone and everyone is mocking Malleus through most of the visit.
Leona: Why should I stop spending time with my friend?
Malleus: Don't put yourself on the same level as her.
Leona: Why not? You don't even like her.
Malleus: Yes I do! We're friends!
Leona: Oh? I wasn't aware friends call each other 'aggravating pests'...
Malleus:
Idia is asked to be Yuu's study partner, and the Shrouds agree at lightning speed because they've been trying to socialize Idia more. Yuu is still kinda a bully, but she's more subdued than she normally would be, so Idia doesn't mind her so much. They even become pretty good friends.
Azul is also one of Idia’s playmates and loses his damn mind hearing that Idia is now friends with Yuu. He starts yelling, saying that Idia can't be friends with Yuu. Idia yells back, because he's actually MET Yuu now and she isn't this roaming figure of maliciousness that Azul made he out to be. Idia straight just says that Azul is a bad friend and he'd be sick of him too at this point.
Idia does apologize the next time they meet, he didn't mean to make him cry but he meant every word he said.
Since Yuu isn't answering Kalim's requests for playdates, his family sets him up with a new playmate in RIDDLE. (They're praying Riddle's attitude will rub off on Kalim. It does not). But while Riddle and Kalim have their playdates. Jamil listens to Riddle's attendants Ace and Deuce talk about how Riddle wasn't such a hardass at Yuu's house. So he drafts a letter and asks them to deliver it to Yuu next time they're at her house. It was literally just a simple letter apologizing and inviting Yuu back to the Asim house. He'll cook for her and Kalim, they can play restaurant.
They agree but the next time they come Riddle has to keep them both pulled back from causing a damn scene, they're trying to get at Jamil to punch him. Kalim asks why they're so mad and Riddle recounts that they tried to deliver a letter to Yuu from Jamil only for her to tell them to get out.
Jamil: I…I just wanted to talk to her… Riddle: Well, it's probably for the best you didn't.
Yuu ends up meeting Vil because during her break from society, Yuu actually does get pretty ill. In an effort to give her some at-home entertainment, they hire actors to perform in their home. And Vil is STRUGGLING to keep his character because a fever-delirious Yuu is yelling about how cool the villain is and cheering every time he does anything. He can't hold in his blush when he's 'defeated' and Yuu starts booing and saying how the villain should have won. Their relationship in this AU isn't so snippy as it is 'two sassy bitches giving you side eyes.' Vil says Yuu is his #1 Fan and he sends her free tickets to his shows in an effort to get her out of the house but she never goes.
Literally...for ten years, the trio only has second-hand info about Yuu because she hasn't been in the public. Unfortunately, the events of the OG timeline start fading. So when she does make the bold choice to re-enter society it's around the time the FL shows up.

❄️️Warm my heart pt. 3❄️️
Pairing: Aleksander Morozova/ The Darkling x fem! heartrender! reader Summary: You distance yourself from your general. You have a cold war between you. Well... a real cold war in some ways, in which he tries to save you despite his greatest fear... Warning(s): the reader falls into a frozen river, a bit of angst, read at your own risk Word Count: 3,5 k Taglist: @aoi-targaryen @budugu ~•♤♤♤•~ Aleksander Morozova's Masterlist ~•♤♤♤•~ ~•♤♤♤•~ Part 2 ~•♤♤♤•~ Part 4 ~•♤♤♤•~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were better now. Your fever passed, and you were able to return to your tent. Which you did very reluctantly.
Although you didn't remember much of that first night when he took care of you.
Half of the first day was a blur for you. You didn't remember how you moved from the floor to his bed, with his arms around you as you slept peacefully, hugging into him, but you didn't complain. There was a contractual silence between you about the few days he spent taking care of you.
Afterwards, everything between you two returned to relative normality. You spent your last days in camp searching for the stag, responding to reports and letters from the capital, and preparing for your return.
You already had several plans that you wanted to put into action when you returned to the Little Palace, and you couldn't wait to do it all for Aleksander... especially now, when he had on his mind not only the search for Morozva's stag and the destruction of the fold, but also the king's illness and a possible war with Fjerdans.
Day by day, Ravka was becoming less stable, and he was the only one able to bear the burden of responsibility for this country... you wanted to make it a little easier for him. Especially since you were tormented by the sight of the dark circles under his eyes every day. So you were overseeing chasing after stag... well, you did until a snowstorm came and you had to back off to the capital.
But after talking to Alina that morning, your plans changed drastically.
"He sent Mal away? Well, he must have had a good reason. Anyway, why are you coming to me with this instead of going to him?" you ask, packing your backpack. Alina stands next to your folded tent and nervously plays with the sleeve of her coat.
"I did. He told me to stop worrying about the tracker and focus on my training. Please, you are his second-in-command; you must be able to do something. I... I just wanted to have my friend with me... at least on Christmas."
You sigh, running your hand through your hair. You liked the girl. She wasn't as arrogant as some Grishas, and she knew how to care for others. However, you saw well that, despite the privileges and admiration she received... she was not entirely able to find herself in her new role. Maybe with a tracker by her side, it would be easier for her to process who she is now—a new role assigned to her by the world.
"I'll talk to him. But I don't promise anything. If he insists, nothing will change his mind. He is sometimes more stubborn than a donkey."
Alina gives you a sad smile and nods. She whispers some thanks and walks away, clearly depressed and lost in thought. You frown as you tie your backpack to your horse's saddle.
You go to the general's tent, wondering how to start a conversation with him about the tracker. Inside, you find him talking to Ivan while he was packing to leave. He beckons to you, allowing you to approach them.
"Some of our men have already left. They took the tracker with them, just as you ordered, sir. They won't be back until they manage to find the stag. We should be able to locate it by the end of this year, General."
You look at Ivan in shock. The general always allowed his men to return to their families for the holidays. Only during the greatest crisis did he leave his people in the Little Palace or send them on very important missions. You doubted that finding the stag was that urgent... especially since a snowstorm was about to hit.
"Great. With any luck, he won't distract our Sun Summoner anymore, and the stag will finally fall into our traps. Thank you, Ivan."
Ivan nods and walks away, leaving you two alone. You stared blankly at the report he was holding for a moment. He couldn't have meant it, right? He wouldn't send his men on a dangerous mission for no good reason, certainly not for some stag...
"I don't think it's necessary to send a group of our men hunting the stag now. Especially if a snowstorm is about to hit. They should come back with us, or at least to the nearest town or village. The stag won't get far. Not in this weather."
"I didn't ask for your opinion or conjectures." he replies coldly, not looking at you. You feel like something punched you in the stomach. But you keep your tone of voice equally cold and control your facial expression to stay neutral.
"You asked for me." you see him frown in surprise at your emotionless tone, which he taught you himself. However, you see how his confusion quickly turns into indifference when he holds out a report to you.
"Another transport through the fold was unsuccessful. We lost our entire crew—many good men. Alina's training must be completed as quickly as possible, as must our stag haunting. This is in the best interest of Ravka and all of us. We don't have time for any delays or protests from hysterical orphans."
And so you had your answer. His actions and everything he did revolved around two things. Grishas and the fold. Now... a certain Sun Summoner has joined his list of priorities. His equal. The light of his darkness.
"I understand, general." you say, handing him the report back. "I'll make sure a replacement crew is sent to Kribirsk."
"What is it?" he asks you, surprised at your stoic and distant behavior. You frown, feigning confusion.
"I don't know what you are talking about, sir."
"Y/N..." he interrupts you and walks over to you, leaving the papers he was packing in his chest. He watches you closely, looking for any clue as to why you were acting the way… everyone else did towards him.
"If that's all, I have to go back to my duties."
He stands frozen for a moment, unable to understand why your behaviour changed so suddenly. You don't blame him. It's just a defensive reaction from your stupid heart. You'd rather distance yourself from him than see him so... preoccupied with another woman. A woman who was on his pedestal and who gained his trust and sympathy faster than you or anyone else. Compared to her, you were… nothing in his eyes. It's high time you understood this.
You take his silence as consent for you to leave. You nod at him and turn on your heel to leave his tent. But suddenly, he grabs your wrist tightly.
You sigh, feeling his heart beating faster thanks to the contact of his skin against yours, as he is amplifying your powers. You don't know if he notices that he's using his abilities on you, and if he does, that's the last thing he cares about.
"Y/N. Stop it." his whisper and heartbeat are all you can hear in the darkness of his tent.
"What do you mean, sir?" you ask, somehow keeping your voice from shaking.
You won't allow yourself to be anyone's pushover. Even for the man who unknowingly held your heart in his grasp. If he... cared about her more and wanted her more than anyone... you wouldn't be standing in the way of epic love.
"This. You hadn't called me like that for months."
"My apologises, sir." you say, turning to face him. His dark eyes search yours intently, trying to break through the defensive wall you've put up around yourself. You could never be someone as important to him as Alina was. You would never be at the top of his list in the first place. And once you experienced this momentary treatment from him... you didn't want to settle for anything less. You simply could not. "I won't forget my place anymore, general. Or who you are."
The tension in the room becomes more and more obvious between the two of you. He takes a step towards you. The warmth radiating from him and the familiar scent envelope you and melt your resolute attitude, but only for a moment, because you knew well what you had to do.
"And who am I to you?"
It wasn't an easy question. Certainly not ones for which there is only one answer. And maybe if he had asked it earlier, if he had looked at you with those disarming eyes a few minutes earlier and used that vulnerable tone of his voice a day ago, then you would have told him the truth. You would say how your heart missed him every damn day and how you longed to be worthy of standing by his side. But not now. Not now, when you knew you were doomed to be his second-in-command and nothing more.
"My supervisor. General of the Second Army." you lie smoothly to the most important man in your life.
To the one who saw something more in you. To the one for whom you would give your life without blinking an eye. To the one you gave your feelings to so willingly and quickly, making the whole situation more complicated.
But it wasn't your story or even your man.
That's why you step aside. If not for your own good, then for his. He deserved something better.
"Very well, colonel. That's all." you try your best not to show how hurt you are or how your title sounded filthy and offensive on his lips compared to the tender way he used to say your name.
As you leave, you hang the scarf and gloves he gave you on the nearest chair. If he wanted to treat you like any of his Grishas, then there was nothing wrong with making it even easier for him (or your heart, as you were trying to be mad at him).
After all, it was better to leave sooner rather than get hurt later…
And you didn't need him... did you?
Tumblr media
The road to Os Alta is long. Much longer than before. You hang back with Fedyor most of the time. You only talk to Alexander from time to time. Always about the issues of the Second Army or things involving it and nothing else. Your relationship has returned to its cold and distrustful beginnings.
It's better this way.
At least that's what you try to tell yourself every time you see him talking to Alina. But when you see him laughing at some of her jokes, you lose control. A dead bird falls somewhere a few metres away from you and Fedyor.
"Y/N…control yourself. Besides, I warned you." you roll your eyes at him and huff angrily, looking away from the two extraordinary summoners.
"I do not know what you're talking about. Besides, they fit together. And how are things with Ivan?"
"Low blow." he mutters under his breath, obviously irritated by your stubbornness.
"You asked for it."
"Can't you see he misses you? Really?" he asks incredulously, and you just shrug. You adjust your red coat and wrap it more around you. It was getting colder.
"Impossible, we were talking about transporting food and weapons across the fold just an hour ago."
"Yes, and since then, when you brushed him off so coolly and professionally, he's been giving you furtive looks like a beaten puppy."
"Alina will be able to soothe his wounds. You see how she heals his heart that I've battered." you snort mockingly, shifting in the saddle.
"Alina is just trying to convince him to let Mal and the others return to the palace."
"Very good. He does have a soft side to her after all."
"Sometimes I want to punch you in the head for being stubborn, blind to feelings, afraid of being attached to and vulnerable to someone, and not believing in your own worth."
"Fedyor... control yourself." you mimic his tone mockingly.
You don't hear his response. Your attention is drawn to the frozen river in front of you. You fondly remember how you and your siblings used to skate on such rivers and lakes.
And then you see a girl in the middle of the river. In skates, crying, and calling for someone. On the other bank, you see a group of children running away into the forest. The girl tries to move, but suddenly freezes and looks down at the ice.
Fedyor notices you looking at something in the distance. He freezes at what you two see. Out of the corner of your eye, you see realisation dawn on his face as he notices the plan forming in your eyes.
"Y/N... no." he shakes his head, but it's too late. You lead your horse towards the river, separating yourself from the group. Behind you, you hear Fedyor speeding up his horse to get to the general's side.
"Y/N!" the general's scream echoes through the area. You tremble, but you only accelerate your horse, trying to get to the shore as quickly as possible. "Y/N!"
You hear his horse pounding, and the surroundings grow darker with his shadows as he tries to hold you back. But you're too close, and you are not going to stop or let anyone stop you.
"Y/N!"
You're not listening to him. You are only focused on one thing. You jump off your horse and run towards the river. Along the way, you pick up a long stick before stepping onto the ice.
"Y/N, come back here!" he growls after you, knowing full well that if he tried to use the shadows, he might break the ice beneath you.
You ignore him, not even turning your head towards him as you slowly walk towards the child who is trembling, trying her hardest not to break any more ice beneath her. You feel everyone's eyes burning at you, but all you can do is keep going. Slowly. Step by step, listen carefully to every sound the ice beneath you might make.
You stop for a moment, hearing the ice crunch beneath you and struggling to keep your balance on the slippery ice, which is becoming quite fragile the deeper you go.
"Y/N, don't play a damn saint! Y/N!" he shouts at you from the shore. If you were less focused, you would wonder why he didn't follow you and didn't even set foot on the thick ice.
In any other situation, you would be terrified by the tone of his voice as he was shouting at you. In fact, you don't think you can remember him ever sounding so angry, so dreadful, and... so fearful himself at the same time. But now you had a more important mission to accomplish than listening to his voice coming from the shore. You would deal with his anger later... or at least you hoped so.
"What's your name, sweetheart?" you ask the girl once you're close enough. You use your powers to slow down the beating of her heart, which is racing with fear.
She tells you her name. She trembles, scared, as another scream from Kirigan comes from the shore, this time calling for Zoya or some tidemaker.
As the little girl trembles in fear, you see delicate, small circles of fire forming around her hands. Inferni. An inexperienced Inferni in the middle of a fucking, barely frozen river. Excellently.
"It's a lovely name. Don't worry, sweetheart, my friend is a little worried about me. He is just a drama queen. He worries about me more than my own mom. But everything will be fine, right?" you somehow manage to make her chuckle briefly.
"You are Grisha. My brother too. They took him to the palace. I'd like to see him…" you smile at her fondly. You sigh in relief as you see her calm down, the glow of the fire disappearing from her hands.
"I'm sure he's in good hands. And I guess you'll see each other soon. First, let's get you out of here, shall we?" you say, extending a branch towards her to catch it.
She screams as suddenly the ice beneath her breaks with a crack. At the last moment, she grabs a branch, and you pull her towards you and then push her far behind you. You hold your breath as you see the ice beneath you crack dangerously.
"Y/N!"
You ignore him, trying not to look his way. You don't know why. Whether it was to not show him that you were afraid or because you didn't want to have the last memory of him being like this... in a situation like this.
Out of the corner of your eye, you see more and more Grishas gathering at the shore. You see the blue kefta of a tidemaker in the distance.
"Can I help you somehow?" a child's question snaps you out of your mind. You shake your head, smiling at her, to reassure her as much as possible.
"I'll be fine. Just go that way. The ice is the thickest there; with your weight, it shouldn't even creak under you."
The girl nods. You see her taking slow steps and walking towards the shore, where there were other Grishas.
You close your eyes. You calm your breathing and try to shift your body weight. Your slightest movement causes the ice to break slightly beneath you again.
"Y/N! DON'T DARE!"
The ice crumbles more and more beneath you, and you can't help but let out a scream as, despite your attempts to get onto firmer ice, you fall into the chilly, rushing river beneath you. You take a deep breath, knowing full well that any supply of oxygen will soon be worth its weight in gold for you.
Before the cold water envelopes you, you hear his scream echoing on the surface, muffled by the ice.
You feel calm. Despite the situation you are in. The cool water around you makes you feel strange. You don't feel anything. You don't hear anything. You don't think about anything. You are drifting, carried along by the current of water, and you are completely unaware of anything around you.
You have risked your life many times. You have found yourself in difficult situations many times. Other soldiers told how their lives flashed before their eyes as they believed they were seconds away from death. How the moments with their beloveds played in their minds as the only memory they wanted to take to their grave.
But you didn't feel anything.
There was only darkness before your eyes. Shadows. His shadows. Then came the hands, with which he summoned them. Then his muscular, but not excessively so as many men have, figure, his beard, and his face. And eyes. Somehow, all you could think about were his eyes. The disappointed look you got from him a few hours ago. And as the cool water hit your lungs, you couldn't help but think—maybe it was better this way?
But you are not allowed to think any longer.
You feel something strong grab your clothes and pull you out of the water. Subconsciously, you fight against the tight grip on you, choking and coughing. Hands press against your chest. Then something soft and warm is placed on your lips. You feel the air trying to get into your lungs through the water in them. You are turned on your side as you spit and cough out water and some thick liquid.
You register someone's loud, dry, sharp screams, orders being thrown in every direction, and the tramp of feet around you. You hear threats being whispered in your direction, your name screaming several times as you are shaken by the shoulders.
As you take wheezing, painful breaths, your clothes are removed. You shiver with cold, trying to push away the hands on you, but suddenly something holds them in a foreboding grip. You're sure you're shaking like jelly at the Winter Fiesta in the Palace when you're stripped of everything but your underwear. You feel like a doll as you are changed by someone into soft, dry clothes that are much more comfortable than the outfit you had before.
Another layer of clothes is placed on you, and along with the strangely familiar scent, you feel something soft tickle your cheeks. You bury your face in the fur. If you could open your eyes, you would see that it was black, like most of your new clothes. A rough hand wanders under your clothes and pulls your wet underwear off, ripping them and taking them off of you, so now you are wearing completely dry clothes.
You hear the sound of the river much clearer than before. And a few heartbeats. One, especially louder and closer to you than any other. Suddenly, you realise that you are floating above the ground, pressed against something very warm. You snuggle into your new source of warmth, pressing completely against it. The heartbeat speeds up, and you are held tighter and stronger. And before you drift off into the darkness, you hear a soft, warm whisper:
"Stay with me, Y/N. Just stay with me."
You cannot. You allow the darkness to surround you, greeting it with relief as the raging thoughts, deafening sounds, screams, footsteps, and horses around you and other stimuli disappear.
You were just so cold…

thinking of
its right after svs ok-
and logan is upset that he didnt get to have a mock courtroom moment where he got to play lawyer and show off how smart he is
so he drags Virgil to the mind palace courtroom cause he's the only one who he could see arguing/debating against since my negative thinking- yk and obvs I don’t think he’d wanna see Janus at that time lol
and Logan, he’s like putting HKDSAHK his whole self into it, because he’s into this kinda thing like it’s fun to him! And also he wants to prove himself in a way, like, the only reason I wasn’t called was because clearly I’d be too hard of an opponent!
and Virgil is over like here, playing prosecutor: yeahhh true, your honor, this lawyer is just toooo good- guess he wins! can i go home now-
Logan: Well :( it's not fun if you don’t try- but if you really want to you can leave I suppose.
and Virgil kinda feels bad for Logan considering he got thrown in the back and wasn’t even brought into the discussion in the first place so he stays (totally not because also he doesn’t wanna see Logan sad)
and so *ugh* he triessss
and Virgil ends up getting into it, having fun and arguing with Logan and getting to play up into the lawyer drama. And by the end of it, both of them feel happy esp Logan who is more content about the situation now.
So by the end it’s like-
“Mmm just as I suspected, I would have definitely won. Clearly I would have been too smart of an opponent for him to best."
“Good job, Nerd, tell em’. I’m sure you would have.”

Alfons Sylvatica: Chapter 20
Chapter 19 Premium Story
♡———♡
The next morning, I woke up and immediately felt something was off.
(Huh...?)
I was the only one in bed.
It should be natural since it's my room, but it felt terribly strange.
(...I felt like I slept with someone yesterday...)
(...Who was it?)
I try to remember, but I can't remember anything like a fog has settled.
Even when I look around my body and the bed, it's neatly arranged and there's no trace of anyone being there.
But...
(This scent...what is it?)
Suddenly, when I moved, a sweet scent brushed past my nose.
(I wonder what it is...when I smell this scent...)
(I feel so sad...)
(Even though I don't know it, it feels like a very important scent to me...)
Like a flower wet with night dew, quiet and clear...
...It was a scent that I wanted to be wrapped in forever.
-
Kate: Good morning.
Roger: Ah, morning.
Roger was the only one sitting in the dining room.
Kate: Where is everyone else?
Roger: Jude and Ellis are at work as usual. Liam and Harrison are at the cake shop.
Roger: Victor and Will are at the palace, and El is...probably collapsed somewhere.
Roger tells me everyone's schedule and bites into his bread.
Kate: Thank you for yesterday.
Roger: No problem, my research on the curse progressed as well, so it's a give and take, right?
Roger: Are you feeling okay? You looked quite pale yesterday.
Eat, Roger says, pushing a silver stand with toast towards me.
Kate: Yes, I'm completely fine now...
(Huh...why was I so depressed?)
I realized that last night's events were vague and hazy.
(During the day, Roger and I went to see the family of someone who we thought might have had a "mirror curse"...)
(And then...)
Kate: Why was I looking so pale...?
Roger: Oh? That's because the results of the investigation weren't good, of course.
Roger: It seems that just having a keepsake isn't enough to escape the fate of the "mirror curse."
Kate: ...But why was I so desperate to find a way to escape the fate of the "mirror"...
My chest suddenly felt a sharp pang.
(This feeling...what is it...?)
I'm driven by an intense impatience, as if I'm being burned from the inside.
(I have to remember.)
(I need to remember.)
(It must have been something I absolutely can't forget.)
---...You're a real fool, aren't you?
I hear someone's voice dwelling in my head.
--It's okay, I understand. I've lost.
Whose voice is this?
--Let's end this.
Who are you?
Alfons: --"I loved you," in my own way.
Kate: ...!
Kate: Alfons...
Roger: Alfons? Who is that...?
After a moment of blank silence, his eyes widen.
Roger: --Damn, we got played...!
Kate: Did he use his ability on us while we were sleeping...?
Roger: Probably. He must have chanted something like, "When you wake up, you'll forget everything about me."
Roger: I was taking a nap in the lab. That guy...he used his ability on me while I was sleeping.
Kate: He probably did it to me while I was sleeping too...but why would he do this...?
(--No way.)
"Let's end this."
(No, that's impossible.)
I immediately deny the possibility that came to mind.
Because it's too absurd to do "that" for someone you don't even love.
(But--)
Elbert: ...Kate, Roger.
Kate: Elbert...!
The moment I saw Elbert enter the dining room, I rushed towards him.
Kate: Do you remember Alfons...!?
Elbert: ...Yes.
Elbert: Al's ability...has always been a little weak on me.
Elbert: I remembered as soon as I saw the note he left.
(Note…)
The note that was handed to her simply said, “Have a lovely rest of your life.”
Kate: …This is…
“Have a good life,” it’s like a farewell message for the rest of your life.
Roger: It’s more like a will than a note.
Kate: …
The thought she had just dismissed came back to her.
Elbert: …I once asked Al what he would do if you didn’t give up on him.
(Give up…)
**flashback to last night**
Alfons: To see if you’ve truly given up on me.
**end of flashback**
Elbert: Al only answered, “I’ll think about it then.”
Elbert: But I thought there was only one option the Al I know would take…
Kate: What is that…?
(Please)
(Tell me an answer that is different from what I’m imagining)
She stared at Elbert, as if praying.
Elbert: Before you pour any more of your heart, body, and time into Al and fall even more in love with him…
Elbert: He would disappear.
The moment she heard those words, her mind, which had been boiling with confusion and agitation, cooled down.
(That’s right, the Alfons I’ve seen is the kind of person who would do “that kind of thing.”)
**flashback**
Kate: Are you…the kind of person who would throw away your life for a favorite toy?
Alfons: Yes.
Alfons: After all, my life is lighter than a tin soldier’s.
**end of flashback**
Kate: …I have to find him.
Kate: I didn’t fall in love with him so he could do something like that…
Elbert: …I had a feeling you’d say that.
Elbert: I usually don’t chase after Al either, but this time is an exception.
Elbert: –I won’t allow him to just disappear like that.
(Elbert, are you angry…?)
It was unexpected.
But she understood his feelings well.
He underestimates the feelings directed towards him.
Roger: But it won’t be easy to find someone who can fool Victor’s eyes.
William: –Liam just reported on Alfons’ whereabouts.
Kate: William!?
(He went to the palace? And why…?)
Kate: Wasn’t Liam supposed to go to the cake shop…?
William: The Privy Council tipped off the Purification Club, and they had their eye on Alfons.
William: So Liam and Harrison have been tailing Alfons since the other day.
Kate: Is that so…?
William: It was more about following the trail of people trying to contact Alfons.
William: The goal was to locate the residence of a Purification Club leader…
William: However, this morning, Alfons didn’t shake off their tail, but rather, he was obediently taken away.
(No way…)
William: I’m going to go and punish the Purification Club members at the place he’s headed to, but…
Kate: You guys are–
William narrowed his eyes.
William: It doesn’t seem like I need to ask what you’re going to do.
-
(Alfons' POV)
The Purification Club members I easily caught by simply wandering around the alleys took me to a room in an old mansion decorated with faded paintings.
The place was covered in dust and had poor taste for an interrogation room.
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: You came along quite easily.
Alfons: If someone calls out to me, I’m the type to follow anyone anywhere.
Alfons: Wasn’t that written in the materials shared by the Privy Council bigwigs?
A dilapidated mansion, rarely visited by anyone.
In the center of a room, surrounded by several armed men, a figure sits in a chair.
––The ideal situation.
Alfons: I suppose Lord Gore isn't here in person?
Alfons: Of course not. In evil organizations, it's usually the underlings who do the dirty work.
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: We are not an evil organization. You are the one who belongs to an evil organization, are you not?
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: Showing off your suspicious powers everywhere has come back to bite you.
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: When I told a certain person about the hotel break-in and your physical characteristics, your name came up immediately.
Alfons: Oh my! Who could it be? If they're a fan of mine, I'll entertain them for a night.
Mocking him, the man's temples throbbed with visible veins, just as Alfons had hoped.
(Ah, good. He seems pretty easy to manipulate.)
With a few more taunts, he'd likely lose his patience.
Alfons: ...Are you familiar with the story of Snow White?
Alfons: Who is the most foolish in that story? The most cruel?
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: I didn't bring you here to listen to childish riddles.
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: Tell me about the organization you belong to and its members. If you do, I'll spare your life.
Alfons: Heh... Is this your first time?
Alfons: You should have learned from a professional interrogator before proceeding.
Alfons: Interrogation won't be successful unless you properly research your subject and figure out what threats will make them talk.
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: ...Good advice for a fool who wanders into enemy territory.
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: Let me answer your ridiculous riddle.
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: The most foolish one here is you, and the most cruel one is me.
Alfons: Bzzt. Sorry, incorrect.
Alfons: The answer to both questions is the mirror.
Alfons: Speaking unnecessary truths and causing tragedy... Don't you think it's irresponsible towards the story's ending?
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: W-What are you trying to say!? Do you not value your life!?
Alfons: Can't you even enjoy a little wordplay? Read between the lines.
Alfons: I hate tragedies.
Alfons: So even if you kill me right now, I won't complain.
Alfons: Go ahead, feel free. Whenever, wherever.
The man with the round glasses, seemingly unable to comprehend the words, snorted.
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: You are a valuable source of information. I won't kill you until you tell me about your "Crown" friends.
Alfons: ... For the sake of your poor comprehension of the unspoken, shall I speak plainly?
He stands up from his chair and approaches the lawmaker.
The guards, who had been lulled into a false sense of security by his lack of resistance, all raised their guns at once.
(Yes, good boys.)
Alfons: I refuse to tell the truth. No matter what you do to me, you won't get any accurate information from me.
-
(Kate's POV)
Guided by William, we left the castle and met up with Harrison and Liam a short distance from the mansion where Alfons was taken.
This was because Roger noticed guards lurking around the mansion.
Roger: They're probably trying to get information on anyone who comes to rescue Alfons, in other words, members of the Crown.
(If we rush in carelessly, we'll put the Crown itself in danger.)
(...But—)
I couldn't help but want to rush in right away, thinking about when memories of him might be lost forever.
Elbert: Roger... can you make sure you don't miss any of the lurking guards?
Roger: Considering their positions and numbers, we'll need four people.
Elbert: ...Then, can I leave it to you?
Elbert: Kate and I will go inside.
Kate: Elbert...!
It wasn't just me who was surprised; everyone else was looking at Elbert with a slightly surprised expression.
Harrison: Wow. That's rare for El to be so proactive.
Liam: All right. I'll make sure to take care of any witnesses who see you two.
William: —Do as you please.
William: We'll head over as soon as we're done taking care of the lurkers.
-
(Alfons' POV)
Alfons: I refuse to tell the truth. No matter what you do to me, you won't get any accurate information from me.
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: You––
Alfons: Come on, come on, aren't you going to shoot? Don't any of you have the guts?
As I take one step at a time towards the muzzle of the gun and smoothly draw the saber from my waist, I hear the sound of gun hammers being cocked from all directions.
To kill a valuable prisoner, the lower ranks need an excuse.
(Such as provoked and enraged, unable to control my emotions)
(Attacked and felt my life was in danger, so my survival instincts kicked in)
If the latter is added to the former, the trigger becomes even lighter.
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: Don't shoot yet!
Alfons: Oh! So you can kill people from the slums like trash, but you're hesitant to shoot a "noble"?
Alfons: I'm so sorry, how rude of me.
Alfons: I may be dressed like a noble, but... I was born in the slums, which you all despise.
(One more push)
All I have to do is make the stupid underlings who didn't take my saber away because I wasn't resisting think "this guy is dangerous."
Alfons: So, how about it? Can you do it?
Alfons: If you still don't have the courage, I'll cut off one of your arms.
I put my killing intent into it and pointed the tip of my sword at him.
Kate: ...Alfons!!
Alfons: ...?
––I heard a voice I shouldn't have heard.
-
A voice I shouldn't be able to hear reaches my ears, and for a moment, the mocking smile I'd been wearing fades away.
If this were a play, this is where I'd be expecting boos from the audience.
Turning around, I see her rushing towards me.
(––Why?)
I knew Liam and Harrison were tailing me.
My plan was to lead them here, provoke the Purification Club enough to get myself killed before they arrived.
Then, Crown would interrogate the guy with his professional techniques, expose the Purification Club's leader, and we'd have a happy ending.
My corpse would be disposed of with the other guards, barely remembered. It would have been perfect.
––Or so I thought.
Alfons: Ugh.. Seriously.
Alfons: Reality really sucks.
Alfons: You're all dragging your feet and now we're in trouble.
Man: Is that woman one of his companions---!?
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: I don't know, it's not in the report. She's probably one of the women this guy picked up.
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: ––Whatever, kill her.
The gun was pointed at her.
(Oh, really)
This is ridiculous.
-
(Kate's POV)
Kate: ...Alfons...?
Everything felt like it was in slow motion.
The gun that was aimed at Alfons turned towards me.
The next thing I knew, Alfons' back was shielding me.
Slowly, his body tilted—and finally, the flow of time returned when his body collapsed onto the floor.
Kate: Alfons...!!
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: What are you doing! Damn it! If he's dead, how am I supposed to report this to Councilman Gore...?
Guard who fired: I-I apologize!
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: Forget it! You useless fools! Don't move a muscle until I give the order!
While hearing the commotion as if it were far away, I rushed to Alfons.
I put his head on my lap and managed to lift his upper body.
Kate: Alfons! Alfons!? Can you hear me!?
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: You woman, you're in the way, move!
He called out in a loud voice, and I looked up with a start.
(This person—)
The lawmaker with the round glasses who was talking to Councilman Gore at the Purification Club hotel was glaring at us.
A cold muzzle, like a black hole, was pointed directly at us.
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: Get away from that man. If we torture him even as he dies, he might spill something—
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: Ugh, uugh!? What...!? M-My head—
(Lord Elbert...!)
Before I knew it, Lord Elbert was standing behind him.
Elbert: ...You, on the other hand...
Elbert: Could you please... not interfere with them?
Whether it was because of Lord Elbert's ability or not, the lawmaker with the round glasses clutched his head, collapsed to the ground, and started sobbing.
(I don't know what happened... but we're saved.)
The bewildered guards were frozen in place at the abnormal sight.
Alfons: Pfft, ugh, ahahaha!
Kate: ...!?
Suddenly, I heard laughter from my arms, and consciousness returned to Alfons.
Kate: Alfons!? Thank goodness, you're conscious... but why are you laughing!?
Alfons: Ahah, no, I'm sorry, it's just... I found it funny, ahaha!
Every time he spoke, his black clothes were gradually getting soaked with blood.
Kate: Blood...! You're bleeding! Stop laughing!
Kate: We need to stop the bleeding quickly...!
The blood was flowing from around his shoulder.
I pressed a handkerchief tightly against the endlessly gushing wound.
In an instant, the white handkerchief turned red.
Alfons: Ha... ugh, hehe, ha, I'm sorry, I know I'm bleeding profusely...
Alfons: But I can't help but laugh... ahaha!
(So much blood is flowing...)
Kate: What's so funny!? It's not funny at all...!
Tears welled up in my eyes.
A black-gloved fingertip gently wiped away the tears that were about to spill.
Alfons: ...Hehehe. You're so desperate, it's silly.
Alfons: To think you'd remember me so quickly and chase me all the way here.
The warmth I feel through his gloves tightens my chest and brings tears to my eyes again.
Alfons: You really are a person who can't get what she wants, aren't you?
Alfons: It's so amusing how nothing goes your way that I can't help but laugh.
Kate: Sh-shut up...
Elbert: Kate, let's use this to tie it tightly over the handkerchief.
Lord Elbert rushes over, holding a long, white cloth.
It looks like he tore it from the edge of his long coat.
Looking around, I see that all the guards are also crouched down like the bespectacled councilman.
Kate: Th-thank you.
Alfons: Humph... Elbert, were you always this... competent?
Elbert: In times like these, you make do with what you have... That's what you taught me a long time ago.
Alfons: ...Such a goody-two-shoes.
After firmly bandaging the wound with the cloth, Lord Elbert left the room to call Roger.
Alfons: ...I wonder why you woke up so soon.
Alfons says, looking puzzled.
Kate: H-how would I know... something like that.
Alfons: If only you had remained deceived a little longer.
Alfons: You wouldn't have had to witness the death of the person you love.
Alfons: By the time the illusion faded... you could have forgotten me completely.
Kate: P-please don't say... death...
Kate: No... Please don't die.
Kate: My love, my feelings, they're still...
Kate: Please don't let them become an illusion...
I could only hold Alfons tightly.
So that the creeping shadow of death wouldn't snatch him away.
So that his existence, my memories, wouldn't disappear like a mirage.
Alfons: Haa...
Alfons stirs in my arms.
I panic when I realize he's trying to sit up.
Kate: You can't get up! The blood...
Alfons: This is truly, completely, from the bottom of my heart, not what I wanted.
A warmth brushes against my lips.
(A kiss...)
It was the briefest of touches... The most fleeting, yet the most deeply etched kiss I've ever experienced.
Alfons: ...It seems I love you quite a bit, after all.
Kate: Wh-what?
Alfons: To the extent that I want to utter these words on my deathbed and leave an unforgettable mark on your life.
Alfons: Life is quite... unpredictable, isn't it?
After smiling, his head wobbles.
(No...)
(No, please.)
Kate: ...More.
Kate: I'll make you leave more behind...! I won't let you die here...
His eyes, which seemed ready to close at any moment, slowly looked up at me.
Alfons: ...Then... shall we make a bet?
Kate: ...A bet...?
Alfons: If I die, I win. Goodbye, have a good life.
Alfons: But if I survive... you win.
Alfons: As you wish, we'll love each other properly—
Alfons: And I'll tear your life to shreds.

Part 3
Tumblr media
After settling in for a few days your chipper personality faded into a sad and scared one, mainly because what you had done sunk in. There was a chance your only remaining family would be hurt or killed. It stung your heart. Part of you was thinking that you should just go back, sacrifice your happiness and just marry him. However, Harold came to mind and how he helped you run away.
People who came in to tend to you were so sweet, but you were so scared of the women and Anne due to the last maid you had betrayed you. They meant well and tried hard to connect with you, but you had this deep concern inside you. You wanted some sense of happiness and friends, but you didn’t know how to achieve it all.
The only person you would let come near you was Levi. Levi was so gentle and kind to you, he would help you eat or do things around his grand home. You would often stay curled up in his bed, unable to move an inch. So, Levi would sit and work next to the bed or sit in a chair and read while you lay there curled up.
Last night you had nightmares, so today you were extra fragile. Levi noticed and wanted to make things better. He was sitting on the floor working on some policies for his land and wondering what to do with his massive fortune. He eyed you and thought about buying you something nice. Compelled by his feelings for you, he slid across the floor and sat right by your head on the floor.
You sniffed back some tears and looked at Levi, his brilliant steel blue eyes sparkling through the mask. “Your lordship. Is everything okay?”
He held the edge of the bed and whined. “L-Levi is f-fine.” He gripped the bed. “You are unhappy. Forgive me for not providing a good home.”
“It’s not you or your people. I had a few nightmares last night.” You sat up and moved your messy bed hair. “I am finding it hard to trust your staff.” You looked over at him. “I-I’m not saying your staff are bad…” You welled up. “I’m sorry.”
Levi scrambled up and sat on the bed next to you. “Please don’t cry.” He reached over for your hands and paused. “Sorry, I shouldn’t touch you with these things…”
You reached over and took his black-clawed hands. “Your hands are lovely.” You played with them, they were warm and smooth. You lifted his hands and kissed them. “Your people are lovely, it’s just back at the palace a maid was assigned to me and I got to know her over the weeks I was locked up there. I thought we had a bond.”
Levi reached up and wiped your tears away. “What happened?”
You sniffed. “She had been poisoning me the whole time because she wanted Jareth all to herself.” You lowered your head. “I didn’t want him. She knew I didn’t want him, but she still…” You shook a little. “Anne is so lovely and gentle. She’s so caring and I feel terrible.”
Levi cupped your face. “You are a good person. You have a good heart. Bad selfish people hurt you. My words probably don’t mean anything, but you are safe here. People here care about you.” He dragged his hands down to your upper arms. “I will protect you and if anyone hurts you or makes you cry…”
You started shaking. “Please don’t hurt them.”
Levi tilted his head. “I won’t lay a finger on their head. I’ll talk sternly to them and tell them I’m disappointed in them.”
You gazed at him. “You’re really sweet and adorable.”
Levi whined a little and felt nervous. “I-I’m not.” He climbed off the bed. “I’ve done bad things to protect this country. I know how to use my sword and I use it well.” He looked at his clawed hands. “My body is made for destruction.”
You slipped out of bed and walked over to Levi. “You see destruction, but I see as protection. You cared and looked after those who needed strength when they had none.” You wrapped your arms around him and rested the side of your head against his back with your hands on his pecs. “You’re a good man. You’ve cared for me when you could have just left me to die.”
Levi placed a hand on yours. “I could never let something like that happen to you.” He pulled your hands off him and turned to face you. “I have an idea. How about you come with me as I do my rounds?”
You nodded. “Y-Yes.”
“Do you need help from Anne in changing?”
You gripped your night dress. “Mm…okay.”
He moved to the room door and saw Anne was waiting. “She’s said yes.”
Anne gasped in delight. “Yes! I’ll dress her up in so many pretty things!” She ran inside and squealed in delight. “Hello, my lady!”
You gripped your dress and bowed. “H-Hello.”
Levi leaned down and whispered to Anne causing her to nod and look sad. He pulled back a bit. “Is there a colour you don’t like?”
You shook your head. “No, I’m okay with anything.”
“I’ll be on my way. I’ll see you in a bit.”
Anne clasped her hands together. “Something light and pretty.” She hurried to the walk-in and grabbed a pale light green dress with pretty hand-stitched flowers, the fabric long and flowing. “What do you think?”
You lightly touched the dress. “It’s pretty. I like it.”
She bounced up and down. “So exciting! Ever since I started working for his lordship I’ve dreamed of the day he takes a bride and I get to dress her up, look after her and help her make my lordship blush!”
You giggled. “He’s cute.” You gulped hard as she started to dress you. “Does he always wear that mask?”
“Yes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen his face.”
“I have.” You smiled at her as she looked in pure awe. “When I jumped into his arm in the snow. He didn’t wear a mask. I thought he was the most handsome man I’d ever seen.” You nibbled your lip. “I want to see it again.”
Anne fixed your hair for you. “Well, let’s work together. We will get him to remove that mask to kiss you.”
You gazed at her. “You don’t want him?”
She shook her head. “I don’t. I have a man I love very much.” She held your hands. “I’m not that nasty maid, okay? We all here care about you and his lordship. Most of us here ran away from the prince’s country.”
You squeezed her hands. “I understand. Levi whispered to you about what happened, right?”
“He did. I will work hard to be your friend. If you need boundaries set, please tell me.”
You nodded. “I will communicate everything.”
“So will I.” She stepped back and sighed. “You look like a countess.” She giggled. “That position is available too.”
You felt your cheeks heat up at the thought. “That would be lovely.”
Anne clapped her hands. “Yes! Wonderful. Let’s return you to the count so you can move on him.”
You walked with her and hummed a laugh. “I will try my best.” You gripped your dress a little. “His lips seem very kissable.”
Anne hugged herself. “I know what that’s like, wanting to kiss someone a lot. I’m the same with my man.” She growled. “Just wanna grab his face and cover it in smooches!”
You giggled. “Cute.”
She grinned before pausing and turning to a butler. “Where is his lordship?”
Jean smiled. “He is outside speaking with Sasha about the grounds. Fair warning, he is the king of bunnies right now.”
Anne giggled. “I love it when he is.”
You frowned a little. “King of the bunnies?”
Anne guided you out of the grand mansion home into the vast gardens. “We don’t know why, but animals seem to love the count.” She paused and allowed you to admire Levi in his black suit, cloak and mask. Around Levi was a lovely collection of bunnies gazing at him and wanting attention. On his horns sat little birds. “Whenever he goes outside they surround him.”
You gasped in delight. “So cute.”
“Go to him.”
You lifted your dress and hurried over to Levi as he talked to Sasha about the land. “Levi.”
He felt a warmth shoot through him at hearing your voice. He turned to face you and felt like he was walking on air, you were breathtaking. Every time you talked with each other, it was always in dim lighting in his room. So, this was the first time he was ever seeing you in the sunlight. He mumbled your name. “You…you look…b-beautiful.”
You looked down at yourself as if you weren’t aware of your beauty. “Thank you.” You looked a little to see a little bunny pawing at Levi’s leg. You scooped it up into your arms and saw it kick a little because it wanted Levi, but as soon as it looked at you, the bunny melted like Levi did. “Aww, such a cute little bunny.” You giggled as it started nuzzling against you. “I think it likes me.”
Levi reached over and petted the bunny. “How can it not? You’re wonderful.” He walked right up to you and petted the bunny. “I am sorry for the army of animals, they follow me around.”
“Animals are a great judge of character.” You leaned up and kissed the mask where his cheek would be. “You’re a sweet man.”
Levi felt a whole body blush. “I-I-I…uh…mmm…th-thank you.” He cleared his throat. “Would you like to walk with me?”
You placed the bunny down. “I would like that.”
He fiddled with his shirt and then started walking with you. The two of you talked so naturally as if you had known each other for years. Everything was so natural between the two of you. The more you walked and talked with each other, the more animals seemed to turn up and want Levi’s attention. After a while, he took his cloak off and placed it on the floor allowing you both to sit together. As soon as you both sat, bunnies climbed onto your laps.
You fussed the bunny on your lap and hummed. “The place is beautiful.”
“I do like my home.” He looked around then back at you. “I am glad we did this.”
“Me too.” You reached over and caressed his neck so he could enjoy the skin-on-skin contact. “I loved getting to know you more. Each time we talk about ourselves, the more my heart flutters for you.” You pulled back from him. “Sorry, I’m probably flustering you.”
Levi gazed at you. “I like that contact. You’re the only person I like touching me.”
You shifted closer to Levi. “Levi?”
He locked eyes with you as his heart raced. “Yes?”
“Can I move your mask? Just a little bit?”
He felt nervous. “I ah…I’m not nice under this.”
“I’ve seen your face before and I thought you were so handsome.”
He gazed deep into your eyes. “I believe your words that you wouldn’t lie to me but I don’t think much of myself.”
You shifted the mask to the side a bit to see his cheek which had some black marks and scales. You leaned closer and kissed his cheek and discovered it was soft and warm. You kissed again before moving the mask back. “Thank you for indulging me.”
Levi gazed deep into your eyes as he gulped a little. He reached over and caressed your cheek with the back of his clawed fingers. “Can you indulge me then in return?”
You nodded. “Sure, what is it you would like?”
He moved the bunny off his lap and got a bit nervous. “I ah…you…um…well…”
You hummed a laugh. “It’s okay, ask away.”
“I would like to h-hold you but in a specific way.”
You smiled at him. “In what way?”
He gripped his thick muscular thighs. “I w-would like y-you to sit on m-my lap with your b-back to me. I w-want to hold you f-from behind.” He looked away. “I’m s-sorry, I’m asking t-too much.”
Shame ran through him as he thought about his request, he thought he was asking too much of you. All he wanted was for you to be his bride, but you ran from a marriage so you wouldn’t want him. A pure delighted heat of excitement went through him when you crawled over and sat right between his legs before pressing your back to his chest.
You wiggled a little and smiled. “Comfy.” You lightly grabbed his wrists and then helped him put his arms around you. “Here.”
There was a slight hesitation, but hearing you give him full permission encouraged him to move. He wrapped his arms around you and held you tightly. “Mm.” He clung tightly as his tail swished a lot. Now he was wishing he didn’t have a mask on because he wanted to nuzzle the crook of your neck. He looked around to see the two of you were alone.
You gasped when Levi’s clawed hand covered your eyes. “Levi?”
He slipped his mask off and whispered against your ear. “Keep your eyes closed and don’t move.” The heat of his breath caused you to shiver against him. “Just for a bit.”
Your senses heightened causing this moment to be all the more sensual. A gasp escaped you as Levi’s soft hot lips ran up your neck to your ear. A gentle kiss made you shiver then a playful bit on the edge of your ear made you moan. You leaned your head back as he kissed down your neck to your shoulder. His canine teeth playfully nipped your shoulder causing you to squeak.
Levi pulled back a little and saw he’d made a love bite. “A-Ah, s-sorry. I got carried away.” He pulled his mask back on. “I am sorry, I left a mark.”
You turned your head as soon as he removed his hand. “I liked it.”
He gazed deep into your eyes before tapping the forehead part of his mask against your forehead. “Good. I don’t want to scare you.”
“You don’t scare me.” You cupped his face and kissed his mask right where his lips would be. “You’re sweet and caring.”
Loving words were on his lips, but he didn’t get a chance to speak to you because a staff member came over and asked for his attention. He rose to his feet and felt sad. “I must go. Could we go on another date soon?”
You nodded. “I’d love that. Oh, your cape.”
“Keep sitting on it. You can return it later.” “I will.” You waved to him. “Bye.”
Tumblr media
You let Anne dress you up in a cute dress and then add a pretty cape after as the spring air was cold today. As soon as you were dressed and ready, you ran through the grand mansion until you were outside to see Levi preparing a carriage to go into town. Once you saw Levi you felt excitement surge through you. “Levi!”
Levi turned and gazed at you, a sparkle of delight filled his eyes when you sprinted towards him. He called your name. “My little bunny.”
You leapt into his arms and hugged him. “Don’t go without me.”
He squeezed you before placing you on your feet. “I didn’t know you wanted to go into town. Forgive me for not thinking of you.” He whined. “I’m a bad man…”
You held his clawed hands and noticed he’d put gloves on them. “You’re a good man.” You lifted his hands. “How come you’re wearing gloves?”
“I don’t want to scare people.”
You kissed his hands. “I think they’re pretty.” You smiled at him. “I’m looking forward to going out.”
He held your hand and helped you into the carriage. He climbed in after you and closed the door. “I have work to do there, but we c-can go shopping?” He fiddled with his cloak. “M-Maybe umm…go to a café?”
You shuffled up to him. “Like a date?”
He nodded. “I-If you want to?”
“I do.”
He perked up a bit. He glanced out the window as the carriage moved into town. Shame and fear started to move through him. He grabbed the hood of his cloak and pulled it up. “Mm.”
You tilted your head. “Why the hood?”
“To hide my horns.” He sighed. “I’m ugly and frightening to look at…I don’t want to scare my people. I don’t want to scare kids, I like kids and I want to be a father someday, but I’m too scary and horrific for that.”
You smiled as your cheeks heated up. “I think you’d make a wonderful father.” You knelt before Levi and undid his cloak. “You should have faith in your people. Your staff adore you and they have seen your tail, claws and horns. Have they run?”
He shook his head. “they seem to love me more.”
You slipped his gloves off. “Have faith in them and if they judge you, well I’ll give them a stern talking to.”
He chuckled. “You’re a good person.”
You held his hands. “I will be with you every step of the way. If you want to leave, we will.”
He gulped hard and nodded. “Okay.”
You smiled. “Plus, there might be a demon kid in this town and seeing you with your horns and tail out will give them confidence.”
He perked up. “You think so?”
You nodded. “I believe.” You gasped a little. “Oh, I’m taking your cloak off and it’s cold out.”
“I wear it only to hide. I run very hot.”
A shiver ran through you, you felt pleasure in knowing he was always hot. “I bet you’re wonderful to cuddle in bed on cold nights.”
Levi’s heart skipped a beat as he heated up at your words. “I-I uh…mm…maybe I am.”
You sat next to Levi. “Have you had a girlfriend before?”
“Hmm? Oh, yes.”
“Sorry I asked, it’s just you seem a little nervous around me.”
He shuffled closer to you. “Well, you’re different. I’ve had two girlfriends in the past, both were lovers and I was intimate with them. One of them was magical and is the reason why I’m cursed, she was rather cruel…” He sighed. “So, if you’re wondering if I’ve had sex and been with women, I have.” He rubbed the back of his neck. “I am nervous and flustered around you because my feelings are very strong for you. I want you as my bride, but I won’t force anything.” He turned to you and held your hands. “I get so overwhelmed with my feelings for you that I just stutter and stumble on my words. I’m also conflicted, you’ve been through so much with Prince Jareth and I know I’m ugly. You deserve freedom and a good sweet love.” He blushed. “You’re giving me such a cute sweet look like you’re an innocent little bunny.”
You giggled. “Sorry, I just think you’re so sweet and I love that you’re opening up to me more.” You cupped his face. “I don’t think you're ugly and I am not pressured. I think you’re the man, or should I say demon, for me.” You hummed a laugh as Levi chuckled. “Thank you for caring so much about how I feel and the shit I’ve been through. I want you to know I feel very safe with you and my heart flutters a lot around you.” You leaned closer and then pouted hard. “I don’t like your mask, it stops me from kissing you.”
He reached up to his mask and paused a bit. “Mm…I want a kiss.”
You grabbed the carriage door before it was opened. You opened it a tiny bit and smiled at the driver. “Give us a few minutes.”
The driver bowed. “Of course”
You closed the door and turned to Levi. “We’ve made it to town.”
He gripped the edges of his mask for a moment before unclipping it and slipping it off. He stared at the mask in his hand before looking over at you. “Last time you saw me like this you were sick and weak from running through thick snow. You were a little delirious.” He turned to face you. “Am I still handsome?”
There was a sparkle in your eyes as you took in the darkly handsome Levi. You clutched your chest as you gasped. “So handsome. My heart is racing so much.” You felt yourself shaking. “I…wow…I’m shaking.”
He ran the back of his clawed fingers over your cheek. “Due to fear?”
“Excitement.”
He smiled at you causing your body to heat up. “I’m glad.” He eyed your lips. “Is kissing still on the table?”
You inhaled as he dragged you closer to him, all the worries were gone and he was overflowing with confidence. You were the one that was flustered now. His hot lips ran along your cheek towards your lips causing you to feel dizzy. When his lips touched yours you felt fireworks inside you. Your body burned and ached in pure bliss. You clung to Levi as you kissed him back. As soon as you kissed Levi back he added more passion and confidence to the kiss.
Pleasure pulsed through Levi, all he could feel was pure euphoria. The connection between you and Levi was on a special soulmate level. He could feel the bond with you just by a passionate kiss with you. He tangled his claw fingers in your hair and nipped your lip. His hot pointed tongue slipped into your mouth and massaged yours in a blissful kiss. Your bodies throbbed with pleasure as the two of you confirmed your feelings.
He pulled from your lips and kissed along your cheek to your neck. He nipped your neck with his sharp canines. He sucked on your skin and rolled his tongue over the small mark he had made. He moved back a little so he could gaze deep into your eyes. “That was…” He smiled and tapped his forehead against yours. “Please say you felt what I felt.”
You nibbled your lip as your body throbbed. “I did. It was incredible.”
He kissed the corner of your mouth. “I want to kiss you more.” He flinched when he heard a knock on the carriage door. “A-Ah, we’re needed.”
You gazed at Levi as a cute blush spread on his cheeks. “Cute.”
He lifted the mask and glanced over at you. “You’re cuter.”
You leaned over and kissed his cheek. “I also would like to kiss you more.”
His eyes widened as his cheeks got pinker. “G-Good.” He shoved the mask on his face and whined. “You fluster me, i-in a g-good way.”
“I’m glad.” You kissed Levi’s shoulder. “We should head out.”
Levi climbed out first before turning to you and helping you out. “I need you.”
You felt yourself flush. “You do?”
He nodded. “This is the first time I’m showing off my horns and tail to my people. I need the woman I care about to be at my side.”
You smiled sweetly. “Of course. I’m here always. Do you want me to hold your hand?”
He gulped hard. “Please, th-that’s if m-my claws d-don’t bother you.”
You entwined your fingers with Levi’s. “I adore them because they are part of you.”
“You make me feel so loveable.” He squeezed your hand and then led you through the town to his first stop. “People are staring.”
“They’re thinking you’re so handsome. It’s the first time they’ve seen you like this.”
He hummed. “I hope they’re not scared.” He pushed the shop door open. “I would hate that.” He stepped inside and gasped when he saw a little girl run over to him. “Ah! I n-need to h-hide.”
You crouched down and smiled at her. “Hello, what’s your name?”
She gazed at Levi and wiggled a bit. “Frida.” She reached for you. “Who is the handsome man?”
You giggled. “That handsome man is Count Levi.”
She gasped. “You’re the Count! My friend!”
Levi shifted to one knee. “You’re not scared of me?”
She moved closer to him. “Pretty.”
He reached over but say she flinched. “S-Sorry.”
She eyed his fingers. “Wow!” She grabbed his clawed fingers and giggled. “They’re big and warm!”
He held her hand. “Yes.”
She reached up and touched his horns. “They’re cute.”
You giggled. “That’s what I keep telling him.”
She pulled back and giggled. “Is she your wife?”
Levi gazed at you and felt his heart race. “N-No, but umm…maybe someday.”
Frida huffed. “You should hurry up and marry her.”
Levi looked over at you. “I would like to.”
“Your Lordship!” A bearded man with round glasses scooped his daughter up. “Is my little one causing trouble?”
Levi rose to his feet. “She’s been wonderful.”
Frida kicked her little legs. “He loves her! They’re gonna get married! She’ll be our new Countess!”
The man chuckled. “You’ll make the two of them blush.” He looked up and went quiet for a moment as he took in Levi. “Your Lordship…”
Levi backed up. “I know I look…”
“So charming and handsome!” He chuckled. “It’s lovely to finally see you, well most of you without the hiding.”
Levi wrung his hands a little. “Oh, well my face isn’t very nice.”
You giggled. “He lies, it’s very lovely and he’s incredibly handsome.”
“Th-thank you.” Levi cleared his throat. “Shall we get to work?”
The man placed his daughter down. “I have everyone gathered.” He gazed at you. “Could you watch over my daughter?”
You nodded. “I’d be happy to.”
Levi held your hands. “It’s just a meeting about trading. He is from an ogre clan and I’ve been working with them for a while. I will tell you all about it after the meeting.”
You gazed at him and looked like a sweet little bunny again. “How come you’re telling me?”
“Because you are important to me and I don’t want you to feel left out, or maybe I’m doing business and the lady has to stay away. It’s not true, okay? I want you at every possible meeting, but there is a lot to go over and you might be confused midway through the meeting.”
You hummed a laugh. “I understand.” You leaned closer and kissed his neck. “I’ll do a bit of shopping with Firda.”
He retrieved a pouch and gave it to you. “Here is some gold. Treat yourself.”
You looked inside the pouch. “This is a lot!”
“It is?” He frowned a bit. “I didn’t realise.”
You gripped the bag. “I’ll buy a few things and something for you.”
“I’d…I’d like that…”
You took Frida’s hand. “Let’s go shopping.”
Frida bounced up and down before grabbing your hand. “Yes!”
The father moved closer. “She’s perfect, your lordship. I look forward to your wedding.”
Levi felt himself blush. “Y-Yes, wedding…”
You walked with Frida outside and let her pull you along to different shops and stalls. There were a lot of sweets and food, so you bought some for Frida and a fair few things for Levi that you wanted to try with him. After a bit of looking around, you came to a stop at a jewellery shop. As you admired what they had your eyes locked onto something so perfect, it was a stunning decoration and clasps for a demon’s horns.
“Excuse me?” You smiled at the seller. “I would like to buy these please.”
The demon gazed at you, the only thing hinting they were a demon was their horns. He smiled at you. “Of course. You’re really pretty.”
You felt flustered. “Ah, mm…thank you.”
He picked up what you wanted. “He’s a lucky man.”
You handed the gold over. “Sorry?”
He placed it carefully in a wooden case lined with felt and placed it in a bag. “The demon you are gifting this to.”
You took the bag from him. “I’m the lucky one.” You bowed your head. “Thank you so much.” You hugged the bag to your chest and moved with Frida. “Where do you want to go next?”
She hummed as she ate a snack. “I want to see the count again. He’s so pretty.” She gasped when she saw a group of cats. “He’s here!”
You watched the cats go running over to Levi and make a fuss of him. “Cute.” You smiled as your heart fluttered. People flocked to Levi and showered him with compliments about his appearance. You giggled as ladies told him he was handsome and touched his muscular arms. “Very cute.”
Levi looked down at Frida as she ran over to him. “Hello…um…where is…”
Frida pointed. “She’s over there.”
Levi looked over at you and felt his whole world slow down, all the noise went and the cats meowing at him for attention went. He walked towards you as if you had this magnetic hold on him. He stopped right in front of you with a blush on his cheeks. “Did you have a nice day?”
You nodded. “It was okay.”
“Oh, I’m sorry.”
You walked closer and pressed your body against his causing him to be flustered. “It’s because you weren’t with me. Today would be perfect if you were with me.” You looked up into his eyes. “Levi.”
He whined a little as you gave him the sweet bunny luck again. “Let’s go on a date.”
You held his hand and walked with him. “Yes.”
He eyed what you were clutching. “What do you have there?”
“A gift for you.”
He blushed hard. “Th-thank you.” He pulled you closer to him. “Are you warm enough? The spring chill is still bad.”
You smiled up at him. “I’m perfect.”
He opened a café door and ushered you inside. “Good. Oh uh, pick anywhere you like and choose anything you want on the menu.”
You moved to a quiet corner. “Here okay for you?”
He pulled a chair out for you. “Anywhere is good for me as long as I’m with you.” He pushed the chair in when you sat. “I uh…that was a bit…uh…corny.”
You gazed up at him. “I liked it.” You took his hand. “Sit.”
He sat down on your left. “You look so pretty.”
You reached over and cupped his face. “I adore you.” You leaned closer and kissed where his lips would be. “Such a sweet man.”
He lowered his head. “Am I am bad person?”
You frowned a bit. “Bad person?”
He nodded. “All I can think about is locking you up in my carriage and kissing you.”
You gasped as you felt a rush of pleasure go through you. You shoved the gift into his arms, lifted the menu and hid a little. “I want that too, but f-food and a d-date.”
Levi smiled a little at how adorable you were. He opened the bag and admired the box inside with perfect carvings. “Pretty.” He unclipped the box and opened it to reveal the silver clasps with delicate and simple stones. His heart throbbed when he saw a galaxy stone on each clasp. The galaxy stones were important to demons as they were given to their lovers as an engagement gift. “I accept.”
You lowered the menu. “Huh?”
He placed the clasps on his horns so they were perfectly decorated. “The engagement.”
You stared at him. “Engagement?”
He nodded. “The galaxy stones are an engagement gift demons give to each other. I was going to get you a galaxy ring and propose, but you beat me to it.” He saw how you were staring at him. “Oh, I misread the meaning. This is…embarrassing.”
You reached over and gripped his hands. “Levi.” You lifted them and kissed his clawed fingers. “I care for you, Levi. I want you. You said it yourself, I am your bride.” You smiled sweetly at him. “Marrying you would be a dream.”
“Even with my face?”
“I will kiss it every second of every day.”
He squeezed your hands. “I will kiss every inch of your body every second of every day.” He cleared his throat. “I ah…”
You giggled. “I will hold you to that, Count Levi Ackerman.”
He placed his hand on your thigh. “Bunny lady, I am stuck as this version of me and I don’t think I can have a human form. I don’t want to hurt you because you’re a soft pretty human.”
You shifted closer to him. “I’m not fragile. I jumped out of a moving carriage and ran a whole night and day through a snowstorm.” You leaned over and kissed his ear before whispering. “I think I can make love to a handsome demon fiancé.”
Levi growled. “Bunny.”
You pulled back. “We should order something to eat, right?”
He massaged your thigh. “Yes.”
