when i was 13, i gave up on drawing. after years of being the dedicated "art kid" of the family and telling everyone i'm going to study in art school, i quit. my art didn't feel good enough and i didn't see the point. there were others better than me, and i would never achieve the same as them. so i gave up (for a very stupid reason. don't be like me)

but then i got into spg. granted, i still couldn't draw, but i posted doodles and edited pictures. i tried different artforms, like when i made hatchworth out of felt. it was good to make something with my hands.

and then the newest thing - fanbots. i had some murky ideas, some sketches, but it felt silly to just post them liek that. but when fanbot avalanche shook the fandom and my one project was almost finished, it was a perfect chance to share it. and i found people enjoyed what i created. then - other characters came around, and i was drawing them too - either as a thanks or to show people how much i adored their concepts. and it felt wonderful.

what all of those paragraphs mean is: thank you all. for creating your art and characters who may inspire others, for writing elaborate stories, for adding funny tags, for sticking around. all of that resulted in the urge to create outweighting the self-consciousness, and i'm sure glad it did because it feels lovely to make something. it's not about perfection. it's about having fun and trying new things and love.

i love the bit from oct 17 2020 when tommy and quackity trapped wilbur in a cobblestone box to keep him from pressing the button... wilbur punching through the blocks with his bare hand to try to get to the button... tommy frantically replacing the block in front of him yelling for quackity to do something... the moment when tommy stops, blocks the exit, and tells wilbur to do it. press the button. but then theyd die with him. quackitys like "wait, wait-" but tommy holds his ground and wilbur. ohh wilbur. While he was repressed then, he wasn't as of Charlie's Home Alone, so I think it's clear to claim that a part of his "homosexual awakening" was connected to the fact that he was gradually getting more and more into the idea of being punished (gone sexual) for his sins, to a point where he was just genuinely jerking off to the "evils of homosexuality"

I do wanna continue here though and say Season 15 is pretty interesting because we see Mac battle between being Catholic and proudly gay. He seemingly has no issue bragging to a Priest in the middle of a church that he's into triple penetration, but it is his sex life that is the driving "reasoning" for why he thinks he should become a Catholic Priest:

He's been "S-ing&F-ing" his way though life for too long and now he thinks God has taken away one of his identities (Irish) as a result. Mac's idea of being punished by/for God continues, but it's now through the form of revocation (as opposed to shame or flagellation). I think there's a clear "connect the dots" idea that depriving himself of sex (via becoming a Priest) is an "evolved" form of allowing God to punish him for being gay.

Obviously Mac learns he was lied to, as he actually is Irish, so his "journey" here is a bit of a wash, but the fact that his rationale jumped to God punishing him for having gay sex still stands. As he grows to accept himself, he's still looking for ways to feel shame (which, as we've seen, gets him off)...

But is the constant seeking for some form of punishment still there? We didn't see much of his Catholicism in Season 16 (I think the only mention of God from Mac was in The Gang Gets Cursed), but we did continue to see his sex life and—well, that was pretty heavy on Mac, openly gay dating, somehow managing to be neglected and deprived of actual gay sex, wasn't it?
