every time I re read GtN I am caught off guard by how serious it is

Like, Gideon spends the first few pages checking everywhere for possibilities for Harrow's skeletons to ambush her. And then she nonchalantly tells Aiglamene that Harrow would do literally anything to hurt her.

You don't really notice it the first time around because of the lighthearted way it's written, but when you know the context for all of it, it becomes uncomfortably clear how intense and dangerous the situation is that Gideon tries so thoroughly to avoid here.

#I would almost go so far as to say there's a dreading hint of 'this could be where she kills me' in between those lines #and it's soo interesting because that's entirely due to Gideon's perspective because she fundamentally doesn't understand Harrow here #tlt #gtn #the locked tomb #gideon nav #harrowhark nonagesimus #I love that dynamic because you never really know which side of the line it falls #because it's obviously something that stems from a childish enmity with childish means #which makes it even if serious at least not life threatening #however one of those children has always been royalty with all the power that entails #and the other has never had anything to lose #and at the point where the story starts those children have grown up somewhat #enough for where a mindlessly hateful traditionally antagonistic relationship could very well shift into something seriously fatal #and I feel like especially Gideon in the beginning tiptoes kind of around that

#Okay to put it into better words:#Veritas having once being a prince wanted to give everyone the prosperity of knowledge and became a civil god in the pursuit of it.#Sadly this backfires in people using that knowledge for their own greed and creating civil wars within it as well as unleashing far more #Destruction upon the land. And the other gods didn't help Veritas in stopping that bc see that's what happens when people overshare info!!#So the aftermath is just pure chaos plus banishment from being a civil god and thrown as this god of war and plague.#800 years passes and he is seen to just still be doing the same things but I a simple term. Teaching people to read and count.#Often times taking up mission and doing research on new pathogens to help cure the sick that can't afford and somehow during a reading #Lecture he gets ascended back to godhood and everyone is like ??? And even he is like ???#Well he doesn't care much about it and just continues to do what he's always done. Except that once in a while he has to take a detour #Mission to deal with ghosts and other malignant spirits. And upon one of those recurrences he finds himself aquaintanced with #The infamous Ghost King Aventurine. Who is mostly feared in heaven due to having beaten the strongest and wisest at their own games. Even #When the odds where fully against him.#As for Aventurine.#His life was harsh but as the prince had given a lot to the people #Not just education but also free them of diseases and sickness. One of which had struck his sister. He liked the prince and wanted to #Follow in giving and protecting the prosperity of the former kingdom. But the good things did not last and his family was struck in between #The many wars that took place. No matter how much refuge Kakavasha and his sister sought no place was ever #Safe enough for them.#He watched the entire world go up in flames yet somehow he could hate the prince-god for it. But rather the people who had started to #Create weapons in his name. sometimes I think about Q and their design and skill and how I think I could make an argument for them representing many characters childhoods and how the trauma from when they were kids impacts them as adults.

#bsd #I could also make an argument for how mori is presented as an antagonist in the story #and the complicated relationship the children he abused have with him #it’s similar to how Atsushi can’t figure out how to feel about the director of his orphanage both dying-#and having not been entirely evil. because it’s easier to think that someone who hurt you was evil #rather than a person. and then there’s the cycle of abuse that asagiri explores #how the orphanage director was also abused- how Dazai treats Akutagawa because of how mori treated him #and then how akutagawa treats Kyouka because of how Dazai treated him #how does Q tie into all this?#well- their skill is that people who hurt them go crazy right? they start to murder people #the more people that harm this child- the more cruelty and suffering because of it #during the guild arc Q is screaming ‘you’re hurting me’ over and over #they don’t want to be in pain. but their only defense is to inflict pain upon others #even if it means they remain hurt- someone else is hurt as well #there’s a moment when Q is first introduced #where they get at Atsushi. and then Atsushi attacks the agency because of Q’s skill #Dazai’s reaction to mori letting Q out is anger. the way that he snaps Atsushi out of his guilt #is slapping him in the face. mori let Q out-> Dazai is angry-> Dazai slaps Atsushi #mori->Dazai->Atsushi #and the reason that Atsushi is so guilty and scared is because he doesn’t want to be like the orphanage director said he was #all of it is trauma from how they were treated as children- and Q is a child whose skill is to hurt people when they hurt them

OKAY OKAY SO HERE’S SOME CONTEXT FOR YOU ALL PLEASE WAIT I CAN EXPLAIN

When I was a very VERY small child (I speculated kindergarten age but I can’t really be sure..might have been younger) my family would make a seasonal event out of watching animated Christmas movies on DVD or VHS (yes this was before streaming services became a prominent thing—everything was on physical media “back in my day” lol. It wasn’t even that long ago). And there was this really weird almost fever-dream Rudolph movie sequel film titled The Island of Misfit Toys with bad animation, a singing hippopotamus dentist (her song is actually really good tho 10/10), the abominable snowman in a bunny suit, and other story elements that I successfully whipped from my memory. HOWEVER there was this one character called The Toy Taker—I remember I was entranced with him for some reason?? One of my repressed childhood memories was of me pretending that my recorder instrument (my school required us to play one of those. I was terrible at it) was the same flute this Toy Taker guy used in the movie to lure toys away. I wanted to pretend to be him SO BADDLY. I don’t know if it was a crush or if it was simply my brain going “OH COOL DESIGN AND EVIL SONG NUMBER.” It’s so absurdly random?? Help??

I…..I don’t know what any of this means?? It just lives in my head as an odd memory haunting me everytime during the winter season. Please someone tell me does this mean I have a type /j

#also some spoilers for that movie but oh well:#at the end of the film it’s revealed that The Toy Taker was actually a toy bear the entire time #and that was the most letdown I have ever felt about an antagonist jskjsksp #WHYYY HE WAS SO COOL LOOKING BEFORE WHY DID YOU MAKE HIM A BEAR #which is oddly similar to Bezel from Chickn Nugget now that I think about it lol #but anyways he had a tragic backstory about feeling abandoned and not loved or cared about #…I think I’m starting to see a pattern and I’m not sure how to feel about it #random #shitpost

There's just something about the word remade being used in a whumpy way to me- like "I'm going to remake you" or "I remade you"...there's just something so amazingly permanent about it, something about how the whumper shows, with this, that the whumpee won't be the same ever again, no matter what they do and how much they heal, or whether or not they get rescued... that they'll always be defined by the pain they experience there, whether they like it or not

I'm not sure if that's like. Getting screwed over so much as just being made fun of for saying silly things. That said I do think his bit where he just starts talking in wing dings (here) is incredibly funny and given the fact that it has been one of my most popular posts this month I think most of you can agree with that. I do in general think the zoro and sanji dynamic is incredibly funny even if I'm just skimming for sanjis I'll keep an eye out for them for a giggle.

my VISION my dream story is to write a werewolf!chase x hunter!foreman au where foreman catches chase changing and. he never really BELIEVED in all that monster stuff his dad was always talking about growing up. always chalked it up to more religious talk and disregarded it. but here is chase, who he's known for years, becoming something WRONG right in front of him and it fucks him up real bad and blah blah eventually they have werewolf sex in the hospital you get the gist. i have the ENTIRE thing plotted out so perfectly in my mind but i just CANT write foreman's voice for the life of me. he's my specialest little guy and it kills me that i cant get inside his head the way i can for other characters. i understand why and how he reacts to things the way he does i GET him on a psychological level but if you asked me to write like three lines of realistic foreman dialogue i'd be incapable of it. ill write this fic someday but until then i have to study my fucked up little guy like a bug intently under a microscope until i can put him in Situations in a way that feels true to his character.

#im not great at writing chase either. like i can Do It but i dont understand his motivations as well as i do foremans #so. it's a struggle.#but yeah i just think chase having czech heritage and being bad in the blood is REALLY compelling but i wouldnt want the story to BE from #chase's pov. bc chase is not My Guy like that!! i have written personal choreman fics for practice and i can write chase #because chase is antagonistic and has a very solid breaking point #foreman is. almost ENTIRELY moved by external motivations #he's so disconnected from himself and it's very hard to get into that mindset #bc i'm someone who's very self-analytical but foreman is not like that in the same way... this is turning into a foreman rant SORRY #ty for the ask :D #choreman #ask game

was going through my blog trying to track down an old post i made talking abt my feelings on jolene and it was. much longer than i remembered it being. and haha yeah i still agree with it. i need to fucking. sort out my feelings on that character and that subplot

#like. its just been A Thing where once i thought abt it too hard it was just Wow i hate this actually #its not entirely like a visceral discomfort but its a sort of like. its unpleasant to think abt this for too long #like??? the easiest way for me to explain it is that normally its fine like ok a pursuer antagonist character to add lil backstory #but the moment you toss in the implication that she still has romantic feelings for him it jumps up to WOW THIS IS UNCOMFORTABLE #for me. for me. like just all of it? and some fan stuff that influenced it like. bad jokes and uncomfy phrasing that leans to linebeck bein #like an unwilling participant or ‘giving in’ like fan stuff also REALLY hasnt helped so i just. yknow avoid it #salty talks #might delete later but i didnt delete the og so whatever #like she is absolutely just. badly written. shes a joke and poorly written and its just. there and there are implications #it does just come down to. shes badly written and the way linebeck reacts to all of it doesnt help #like when i worry abt like. coming off as sexist. its like nah shes just fucking badly written #casca is a similar kind of character as someone aggressive to her love interest and lashing out at him despite having feelings #but shes like. well written. and guts reciprocates. and you like. see them communicate and grow closer #here youre just given a disastrous fucking aftermath where communication is completely broken down #and while the aggressive party still has feelings the other party actively wants to just not engage with it and actively doesnt care #cuz like. he literally does not bring her up or allude to her outside of her being immediately relevant i cannt see him being interested #GOD. i just need to write all this out i keep justifying myself with it i need to. get it out #im narrowing down. something. for how i think their backstory together goes with it being a lot of miscommunication and it just being like #a bad situation anyways with their last actual encounter being a violent one and its like yeah no that was a trainwreck #i know its a fucking like. comedic(????) subplot in a lighthearted childrens game #but it has Vibes to me and that game does have some darker vibes to it we all know that #and it just. i dont like her. i dont. i remember i used to be like. alright with her. and then i thought on it too much #casca addendum ig. shes objectively not like. well well written. but all things considered. shes pretty good #like im p sure she was made to suffer to make guts feel bad but. she does happen to be a kickass character in the midst of that

trying not to get disproportionately hyped but yesterday's horizons episode made me lose my mind to such a degree that I feel as though the next episode is gonna be like.. life-changing for me I fear.

#vi rambling #pokemon #i have so many thoughts and i cant articulate ANY OF THEM.#im just. so pleased. with the writing in this show. and so pleased with the direction theyre taking amethio. hes my character ever.#everything is so intriguing and has such a good build-up... idk IDK IT HAS ME SO EXCITED AND HAPPY.#seeing new things and older things click into place like this. the catharsis of liko and amethio facing off again and #being the first 2 major characters to interact in the series and being the lead narrative foils finally face off again and INTERACT again #is so incredibly rewarding.#spinel is such a fascinating antagonist to me theres so much to unpack with his relationship with umbreon and the organization as a whole #liko's emotional state was also really well executed i felt. amethio being so SHARP when it comes to spinels entire deal was also #a great aspect showing both his intellect and his being privy to information we arent and thus leaning into the mystery aspects #ARHHRGRGGGGH IM SOOOOO. i need it to be friday again im going a little insane.#also the rakurium being pink ... terapagos and likos colorschemes being turquoise.... opposing colors and in their middle....#is purple.... I WONDER.... WHO THE BRIDGING CHARACTER WILL BE..... GEHEUEHURGE #im just. so excited to see his arc unfold. and well... i hope their interactions ends on a more ambivalent note... things shifting a bit #when it comes to their perceptions of the other side ever so slightly.... ghfurhuhru #ok. im done i think.

the fan letters page at the end of the latest idw sonic issue mentions that theyre planning a crossover comic soon......... my top choices for a crossover out of the stuff idw already makes comics for are my little pony and monster high but what little they said about the crossover doesnt sound like its gonna be either of those . SAD ! well theres always imagining scenarios in my head

#they specifically said something about whoever theyre crossing over with being a big threat to sonic and his friends #which. yeah that doesnt sound like monster high to me . i mean yeah theres actual threats in mh sometimes #but. cant think of anything that would fit a sonic crossover #and i can also admit that sonic and mh might not mesh super well in terms of stories and setting #and would be nowhere near their first choice for a crossover #i just want it for entirely self indulgent reasons i wanna see the characters be friends <3 sorry #and with mlp. yeah theres villains that could cause major problems #but ''we cant say who but the characters we're planning on crossing over with are gonna be a big threat to sonic''#doesnt sound like something theyd say if it was mlp. like i doubt the main focus would be on the antagonists

Deep in the throes of updated covid booster-induced fever, so it won't be happening tonight, but I finished Nocturne and I have Thoughts™ about it, which I will probably share eventually, once I have the energy. I also have Many Thoughts about some things I've seen slinking around the tags, which I will not be sharing, as I definitely do not possess the requisite energy for that XD

#a very positive reaction overall #i have a couple of nitpicks but that's really all they are: nitpicks regarding extremely personal preferences #so they don't actually matter in the grand scheme of things imo #music and animation were exquisite #the entire thing was an extremely enjoyable watch #given what mutuals told me i was expecting to be very well-fed re: morally grey antagonists and i was #wildcards with no attachments to any side but with a strict personal code all the same are 🔥🔥🔥#(purple period coats and long hair are always a plus of course)#i was not expecting the art history/archaeology student with focuses on the ancient mediterranean and mesoamerica in me #to be well-fed as well. so. that was a *really* nice surprise.#knights hospitaller of st john of malta we meet again lmao; we go wayyyy back in fiction. good to see they're still assholes XD #and needless to say i *adored* the main theme running throughout the season #gonna go pass out now. lie down and cook in bed like an egg in a frying pan.#let's hope the fever lets up by tomorrow because i've got so much shit to do T_T #withoutwords

i love when characters suck and are bad people like the thing about murphy is that i liked him before he was the incredible wife guy (which is also pretty great, dont get me wrong) but like. i thought he was cool when he was a horrible jackass that everyone hated . like he was interesting before he got morals; he was interesting as a guy who gets lynched in a frontier justice display of retaliation for a murder because he just seems like the kind of dude who would murder someone. and he is! just not that dead guy, specifically. whereas the actual killer is a twelve-year-old girl who the whole crew spends the episode trying to proctect from any kind of punishment, while murph runs around trying and failing to get anyone to admit out loud that the only reason there's a difference between punishing him and punishing her is because he has a bad personality . and also the murders but at that point in the show he hadn't killed anyone, he just seemed like he would

#now the OPTICS of his eventual murder of the guy that lynched him? are abysmal given that murphy is white and connor is black #BUT . that is not a murphy problem that is a showrunners' racial politics are simply completely bankrupt problem #the early-seasons flipflopping between him and finn never ceases to interest me either. his main thing is a sense of antagonistic FAIRNESS #which means that he has no problem helping during the sickness or with food production - doing objectively good things - if they need done #BUT he will also use the opportunity to kill anyone he feels has wronged him; in this case his would-be executors #also anyone who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time #but - even with all that - by the second season he's only killed two people . he's made more attempts; but they all fell through.#finn manages to keep his hands clean for nearly the whole first season and is an adamant pacifist #but grows so emotionally unstable by the second season that he shoots up an entire town full of people and then - just like charlotte -#is defended and protected by many of his crewmates in a way that #had the same event occured but with the roles swapped - murphy shooting instead - would not have happened #and these facts are not lost on murphy! even when he becomes the incredible wife guy #she's the only person who really thinks he has like. a likeable personality #everyone else is like 'well we used to hate him but then we had bigger problems. so he just lives here now. he's all right i guess'#the 100 #god i just always have so much to SAY about this shit #love the 100 because it's one of those shows thats bad but NOT so bad that there isn't like a ton of really interesting stuff #to discuss and analyze and reinvent and talk about
