The Wheel of Wow!

hello everyone! happy valentine's day, happy dialtown anniversary! welcome to The Wheel Of Wow!

The Wheel Of Wow is a multimedia fic project a handful of us friends at the yaoi hivemind have had cooking for about 8 months (!) now. here's how it works:

-we took every eligible (pre-dlc) dialtown character and put them on a wheel -we spun that wheel twice, a bunch of times, to create a batch of randomly-generated ships. -and each of us picked one or two ships off that list to write a fic or draw a comic about!

we've got a total of 8 works- 6 fics and 2 comics (one of which is 15 whole pages!). these run the gamut of feelings and genres from comedy and fluff to psychological horror, true lové, and zoomaster erotica.

while these all are technically standalone, the order is very deliberate! we HIGHLY recommend you read them all in order as they're presented on ao3.

Because I see routinely posts of the "we all hate Uther of course" variety:

I very much LOVE Uther Pendragon from bbc Merlin, yes HIM

I love his character, I enjoy what he does and how he does it, I want to draw him so much and he had AMAZING moments in the show.

I could go on but you get the point I hope 💕

I'm frankly tired of the fandom attitude that "of course every Merlin fan hates Uther" because we are not a hivemind and WE DO NOT.

Not everyone ships Merthur, not everyone hates Uther etc. but everyone deserves to go in the tags and not see constant negativity:

I'd like if haters would leave the tag alone for people who do want to see Uther content 👍 You can tag it uther hate or something else, you are making the tag unusable for other fans.

I am blocking every user that posts hate in the tag, so if you ever liked any of my art and would possibly like to see more of my art in the future it is in your interest to change tag you use if you hate him :)

FREEDOM.

I'm FINALLY done with Heavensward and Stormblood society quests!!

I had the Stormblood ones done a while ago, actually, they were a delight and I breezed through them, but put off doing the combined quest until after the Heavensward one bcs I'm trying to do them in order. But the Vanu and Moogles took SO LONG to do because they only give you a max of 150 reputation every day instead of the standard 180. That doesn't sound like a big difference, but jesus christ, it adds up, wound up adding like an extra 2 or 3 weeks onto the grind. Un-fucking-bearable.

I think that extended grind might be why I didn't enjoy the Heavensward societies that much.

The Vath were okay, kinda cute, didn't overstay their welcome, but I just wasn't terribly invested in them. I've seen the "trying to break away from a hivemind" story before and this one didn't have anything especially interesting to say and the bonds forged didn't feel especially profound. But they did give 210 rep a day, so it just breezed by and didn't annoy me at least.

The Vanu Vanu are.... fine? I personally find their speech patterns to get real old real quick, same problem I had with like. All of the ARR society quests. Just feels unnecessarily Othering. The vath at least have the excuse of being very alien in their hive-mind social structure, but the vanu are just. Big Time islander coded and those are just... people. Which also made the not-Haka dance emote you get from them, the Sundrop Dance, just feel all the more Wrong to use. Like, that feels like it's maybe crossing a line. None of the NPCs really stood out and I kinda didn't pay attention to most of it. Linu Vali has a pretty flower crown and THAT'S IT.

The Moogles are exhausting. I say this as someone who fucking loves moogles, even if not ESPECIALLY when they're being annoying, useless little shits, but they're kinda one-note and it gets old quick. Like, if I, me, someone who spent $40 on a plush of Lulu's moogle doll from FFX twice because the first one had its pom eaten by my dog, that person, ME, if you can't win ME over with your moogle in a hard-hat and drunk moogles getting hit by cartoon bombs, you've done something wrong. It especially drags because you're only getting 150 rep a day and the map is huge and you've got to use special mounts on so much bullshit, and fuck you if your queue popped while you were traveling on the mount, you have to go back and start over on this huge, huge map once you're done with your dungeon. Same problem I had with the Vanu, tbh. Just. A miserable grind and you will feel every second of it. It's almost worth it for the moogle dance though.

But the combined role quest was nice. I like the dance emote, it's got elements of the not-haka dance in there, but enough of the moogle dance that it just feels cute and not appropriative.

Also I'm getting tired of meeting this guy in his speedo.

But at least someone blew up his ship again, so all's well that ends well! Onto Stormblood, which I actually really liked the society quests for!

The Kojin were my least favorite of this bunch, their fixation with spiritual treasures and then "the real treasure being the friends we made along the way" was kinda dumb and not in like, a self-aware or silly way. It was played completely straight and I didn't really find any of the NPCs this time interesting or engaging so it all just fell kinda flat with me. Also I have. A big issue. With the naming of their prayer emote you can pick up being labelled; "Ballroom Etiquette: Heathen Gestures." Like. I know the etiquette books are played for very tongue-in-cheek laughs about boring fuddy duddies, but c'mon, man. That... yikes.

The Ananta are a big improvement, though, I really like them and Alpa stood out as a charming and vibrant character, she's so cute and driven and the humor finally lands for once. Having J'olhmyn as the straight-man to M'zhet Tia's antics works well, and the social blunders that Alpa makes through her more isolated upbringing are endearing. Neither aspect is overmined for laughs and Alpa is treated with enough sincerity that you buy-in to her emotional reality and care about her. Just a solid little self-contained story, I really like the ananta quests, and the emote you can get from them of the /charmed sway of being bewitched/enchanted by something or someone is just adorable. Also, love the false nails you can pick up, and the griffin and elephant mounts are cute too! A good story, fun NPCs, fantastic rewards, this is maybe the first society quest I actually recommend people do for something besides completionism or accessibility to crafting materials. The Ananta are great, I love them and my snaughter, snake-daughter.

The Namazu might be my favorite of all society quests. They're not the best one, I think those come in Endwalker, but they might be my favorite. I just.... I just love them. They're so muppety and stupid and the exact brand of physical comedy that can actually get a chuckle out of me. They're adorable and the premise of saving them from various improbable and absurd extinctions is hilarious. There are so many recurring gags and jokes and none of them overstay their welcome and the comedic timing is perfect every time. The quests are all cute, the story is hilarious and adorable, the characters are great, the rewards are AMAZING, if you love the Muppets or Gremlins or anything with Little Creechurs Doing Antics, you will have so much fun with these quests and love every minute of them and look forward to them. Also, just, like, side-note, but so many of the species in the society quests are so over-designed imo; the kojin, the vath, the amalj'aa. But the Namazu are so simple in a very iconic and cute way, like, they could literally be a new mascot of the Final Fantasy series they're so well designed. I love them so much.

And for once I kinda cared about the combined role quest! BECAUSE THEY KIDNAPPED MY SNAUGHTER! And also they stole one of my fish buddies and I had to get them back too. Also, the puppet who came to life from the kojin story, but he was already kinda dead anyways, so like, whatever, but OH NO! My snaughter!! So I was very invested in getting her back.

Also, the tables have turned, and now Talia is the one in her swimsuit when the villain shows up! WHAT A TWIST!

I mean, he's also in a speedo, this scene takes place in a hot spring, but I'm still counting it as a subversion.

Anyway, the Stormblood society quests are the first time I will call this GOOD CONTENT. The surprising siliness of ARR's combined society quests was entertaining after they'd all been played so straight with their dire stakes, but this time it felt like a consistent through-line from the individual to combined quests. The Kojin are the only ones that feel like kind of a letdown and even then, they're still as good as anything from Heavensward or ARR, so if you've done those until this point, you won't feel like you're wasting your time with them at least. And the other two are just great, and the combined quest is fun, and M'zhet Tia turns out to have been carrying Chekov's grenade this entire time, and it's just great. Actually got me to finally LAUGH and not just smile.

Welcome starchasers! It’s a new year! A new you! A new us! New gods, built to burn down the old ones and establish a new pantheon inside their corpses! We like to do yearly recaps at this point, to summarize everything that’s happened in the past 2023s. So… what is done?

The answer:  Everything. The game is content complete. Both campaigns (multiplayer and singleplayer), every quest, system, station, dungeon, boss, random mission, party member, flyable ship. There’s several hundreds hours of play here. As our testers can attest to, the game is absolutely MASSIVE.

Last year saw some of our most important changes ever. In addition to pumping out the majority of the content, we signed on with a publisher, started uploading our first steam builds, got quite a lot of coverage, and acquired a secondary orange cat.

The publisher’s probably the biggest one there. Our publisher, Camlann Games, will be spinning all the plates that my decaying and bruised body simply can’t spin anymore. That includes promotional work, community management, translations, ports, and the eventual subsumption of the continent into our lunar-based hivemind. Typical stuff. They even filmed a fancy new trailer for us, check it out!

So with all this in mind, you’re probably asking “what’s left?” or more appropriately you’re probably asking “where the hell is my quirky space game you train-eating bastard?”. The answer: It’s coming. And sooner than you might think. We’re now in the polishing and completion stage, which brings with it a LOT of testing, which itself takes time.

Still, two major blockers remain: The first is station detailing. This is going at a breakneck pace, in no small part because we have multiple level designers out there turning stations into stations with things on them.

The second is finishing up multiplayer. Again, this is going at a breakneck pace but testing can often be slow. If anyone ever tells you developing a multiplayer game is easy, they’re right. If anyone ever tells you that testing a multiplayer game and making a stable multiplayer game is easy, they’re wrong and you shouldn’t be speaking to them.

With that in mind, our release on Steam will be considered Early Access. The game you will be getting will be content complete and utterly massive, but at the end of the day this is a very small studio taking on a game as large as my ego. An early access release will allow us to better incorporate feedback on systems and tweak the game to make it as good as possible. There will not however, be less trains. There will be more trains if you ask for less trains.

As part of that release, Underspace’s demo will officially be coming to Steam quite soon! This brings with it a whole host of advantages, not the least of which is a much smaller download size and an easier way for us to push patches.

Chapter two: Aftermath

Resistance felt nearly impossible.

He was no longer in control of his body, nor was he alone in his own head anymore.

The second those wires touched his neck /injected him with nanoprobes/ he could suddenly hear hundreds, no Millions of voices in his head, and he became acutely aware that he was now nothing more than a puppet on a string.

They had wanted him to do the same to his brother…

/To Assimilate Emmet./

So of course, Ingo resisted, fought back with the little bit of control he still  had. One voice in the many that were now in his head, found his resistance amusing. He was pretty sure he was given that little win, instead forced to stare into his brother’s frightened eyes.

/Resistance is Futile/

He was never going to see him again, and if he did, then that once voice would make sure they were reunited in the collective.

Ingo truly hoped, as much as it pained him, that he never saw Emmet again.

He didn’t want his little brother to go through his hell.

Now he walked down the metal hall, /following a drone to the surgery/ with all the other people who had been taken. /83 had been Assimilated from Nimbasa City/. And as another implant pushed its way through the Skin of his face, from the inside, he knew the worst was yet to come.

Would Emmet even be able to recognize him after all this was done?

They were no longer on the planet’s surface, of that he knew, they were on a spaceship of some kind /A Borg Cube/ currently flying through space at an impressive speed /Warp 7/ trying to escape another spaceship that had come upon them during their Assimilation. /The USS Hood, Registration-NCC-42296, Excelsior Class, Captain-Murakami, Operator- Starfleet, Owner the United Federation of Planets/

The Borg had enemies. 

Lots of Enemies. Some much more powerful than Starfleet, some that the Borg went out of their way to avoid.

And yet, this Starfleet seemed to be enough of a threat to them, that the cube was unwilling to engage, even as The Hood gave chase. Starfleet seemed to fight tooth and nail when it came to the Borg. Any victory it might have given them, would be a major loss in resources. 

Even if they did win, chases were more Starfleet ships would show up.

Not worth it.

How did he know any of this?

He just did.

Ingo found himself hoping that The Hood caught up to them, and Put a /Photon torpedo/ right through their hull.

Anything was better than this.

But no…

The Hood seemed to give up the chase, and the Cube was allowed to go free.

Ingo felt himself lie down on one of the cold metal operating tables, as he stared uselessly up at the ceiling, unable to even flinch away from the tools coming towards him.

If you had asked Emmet a few months ago ‘What an Alien Ship looked like?’ he might have laughed and described something like a Pokemon frisbee, before getting back to his more sensible mode of travel. Now here he was a month and a half later lying on they're, no, his couch, using his brother’s coat as a pillow, as he watched footage from the day of the attack; taken from an observatory in Alola.

That square shape that had blotted out the sun, had been a spaceship of some kind. 

A cube shaped spaceship. It seemed ridiculous, but that's what it was. And it had parked itself right outside their atmosphere. 

It would have been funny, aliens showing up in a just cube. But the horrors of that day still rang clear in everyone's minds. 

The death toll had been in the millions that day, with the MIA count growing by the day. There were suspected to be 83 missing in Nimbasa city alone. 

His brother was among those 83.

And they hadn’t even just attacked Unova, but the other regions as well. He had called Zisu to inform her what happened, apparently the Borg had targeted Jubilife city and Sunyshore city. Luckily, she and the kids had already hiked up the side of mount Coronet when they attacked.

She had asked about Ingo and all Emmet had been about to tell her was that he'd been taken.

He didn't have the courage to really talk to her, let alone his Nephews. What could he possibly say to them? Your dad was taken instead of me. He just couldn’t bring himself to do that.

He could barely face going to work.

Elesa was still upset with him, upset with herself, upset that the two of them had stayed behind. 

Maybe if they had gone with her Ingo wouldn't have been taken.

She had already lost a lot of friends and coworkers when the Borg struck from orbit. Ingo had been like a brother to her and now he was gone too.

Emmet was upset with himself too, maybe if he had insisted more on having lunch in their office, Ingo would still be here.

Heck, maybe if he had just told Ingo about his bad feelings or pretended to be sick, or something, Ingo wouldn't be among the missing; but here with him, trying to figure what to do.

He continued to watch the screen, watching as the damned cube just hung in the void of space as his mind buzzed with questions.

What even were the Borg?

How were they able to just appear from thin air? 

How come the attacks from the Pokémon just stopped working?

What had they done to Ingo?

And where were they taking him?

Then something on the screen caught his eye. Something else pulled up beside the cube… 

…another spaceship? But this one was different.

It looked almost like some kind of bird pokemon with its odd shape. It had a large  disk shaped head, a wide cone of a body and two stick-like wings sticking out of its back that glowed red and blue. 

And if Emmet was right, then the beams of light that shot from its body were attacks of some kind.

That other ship had attacked the Borg Cube. It was so much smaller than the cube, and yet it still went after it like a Pidgeotto going after a Fearow.

He watched the Borg cube fired back, slowly backing away from the planet before taking off completely. 

Emmet recalled the name the Borg had uttered before they had all disappeared.

Starfleet.

Was this new ship Starfleet?

If they hadn't shown up when they did, things might have been so much worse.

But If they had shown up sooner, they could have saved so many more. Emmet thought bitterly even though he knew that was unfair.

He just hoped that this Starfleet was able to catch that cube and save those that had been taken and bring them back.

Because unless he managed to get his hands on a spaceship of his own, then he had no way of saving his brother from the Borg.

Looker watched the footage from the Alola observatory bitterly. 

Part of him wished the video had never gotten out. Just the sheer panic this could cause. but another part of him acknowledged that there was no point in hiding it. The Borg, as they called themselves, had not been subtle, everyone had seen them. So there wasn't much to hide.

The only thing this footage showed anyone was that another force had intervened on their behalf.

Looker shook his head and sighed. 

What a mess.

An invasion of hostile aliens.

thousands of trainers were abducted, with no trace as to where they could be or how they could get them back.

And all they had been left with was destruction, death, and countless Pokemon who had been left without partners.

What did these Borg even want? 

Were they after the Legendary Pokemon? There was no real connection between those that were taken and any of the Legendary or Mythical Pokemon that called this world home. And it couldn’t be a technology the Borg were after, what could they have that a space faring people like the Borg didn’t. And to Looker’s knowledge there hadn’t been any connection between those who had been taken other than they had lived or worked in Populated areas.

In fact, those that had been taken had been everyone from new trainers to facility heads, there was no rhyme or reason to it. 

He leaned back in his chair and snatched his phone off the table, flipping through it to check to see he had any messages from Chief Anabel. She had gone to contact members of Ultra-recon-Squad with a copy of the footage, to see if they had any insight on these Borg or anything on the other ship. Maybe there was a way to reach out.

But sadly there was nothing as of yet.

At this point all he, or anyone, could do was wait and try to clean up the mess that had been left behind.

And that was the worse part.

[many lightyears away, in the Sol system, on Earth in San Francisco]

“Now I haven’t seen an android this emotionally bent out of shape since Lt Commander Data lost in a game of Strategema on Board the Enterprise D.” The El-Aurian bartender chuckled as she walked towards the table of cadets, placing a comforting hand on the back single synthetic lifeform among them, who currently had his head pressed firmly against the table. “What happened hun?”

He was a little warm…

“He failed the Kobayashi Maru.” one of the other cadets answered, a young Boilan female with bright blue sky and deep navy stripes across her bald head. 

“Oh, I see-”

“For the eighth time.” another cadet added, this one a young Vulcan.

Now that actually made Guinan raise a brow. “Oh, I see.” she tried to keep a straight face as she looked back down at the android. “Honey, you know that’s excessive, right? That test is designed to be unbeatable. The last person who did beat it, cheated his ass off.” 

“I just don’t understand how that’s possible, you should be able to either pass or fail a test. How can it be a test if all you can do is fail?” The synthetic cadet finally pulled himself away from the table, light of the bar catching the small dots of gold in his otherwise white skin, though his mismatched eyes remained locked onto the table. 

Guinan had often wondered if that had been by design or if all they had was a signal yellow and blue eye left when they made him.

“The logic of the Kobayashi Maru is to test how cadets react to a No-Win scenario. It is not meant to be passed by normal means. And to continue to take the test is both illogical and extremely foolish.” the Vulcan explained in the most blunt way possible, looking mildly unpressed at her synthetic classmate as if she had expected better…then again, maybe she did.

“Tv’ell, you and I both know there is no such thing as a No-win scenario. Even if there is only 1 percent then that is ‘technically’ by definition, still a chance for victory.” the Android argued, his attention full on the Vulcan now, his face pulled into a snarl. “And if we’re going to start talking about illogical choices, then how about your completely illogical decision not to retake your linguistics test, despite us all knowing you were not at your best that day.”

“Okay! Since that’s settled, what can I get you guys?” Guinan cut in, not willing to let an emotional android and a totally-not-emotional Vulcan argue over who was the most logical in her bar, no matter how funny it would be.

“A simple iced herbal tea.” Tv’ell answered, settling back down in her seat like she had not just been ready to throw hands with an android.

“Oh, I’ll have a shot of sythale please.” the Boilan smiled happily in her seat.

“Romulan Ale!” the single human of the group finally spoke up, looking a little too pleased with herself as she looked Guinan right in the eyes.

“So, Ice herbal tea, Sythale, and water.” Guinan repeated, rolling her eyes at the human cadet as she wrote down everyone’s order. “Got it.” she finally looked back at the Android who had yet to order anything. “What about you, Zed?” Such a simple name, all because he had a make over his blue eye that looked like Z. “What are you having hun?”

“Oh, nothing for me, Miss Guinan, I’m just going to use this time and…study” Zed replied, reaching down towards his bag and grabbing his PADD.

“Nonsense. I got just the thing” Guian grinned before leaving the group of cadets to return to the bar.

The moment she was gone, the human spoke up once more. “Look, Zed, I’m totally not agreeing with Tv’ell, but if you keep trying to take this test then you’re going to drive yourself crazy.” she grinned over at her roommate and leaned back in her chair. “And chances are even if you find a win they’ll patch it out of the test. Just let the instructors have their win and move on. Besides, don’t you have other things you could be doing?”

“You’re right, Eleas, you’re Right.” Zed finally relented, setting his PADD on the table. “Everytime I even think about that test, I just feel my positronic matrix going into overdrive.” In fact he was feeling a little hot under the collar now, the summer heat was probably messing with his cooling systems, maybe he should have ordered cold water.

“Oh, say it again~”

“Well, if something breaks, let me know. I know and the rest of our engineering class have been dying to take a look inside of that head of yours.”

Rather than comment on the morbidity of Zersa biting at the bit to look inside his head, Zed instead hand a through his hair, pulling a few brown strands back into place, and started searching his PADD for something he was either running behind on, or could get a jump start on. “I’m not even technically on a Command track, I’m Operations and Engineering, so I don’t even know why I’m bothering with it to be honest.”

“Cause your Mister extra credit. That’s why.” Eleas muttered. “What about Advanced Phaser training? Have you taken that yet?”

“Mmh, not yet. I’ll admit, I’ve been putting it off.” Zed hummed, shifting uncomfortably in his seat, even if he wasn’t actually physically uncomfortable. “I don’t really want to risk pushing those buttons just yet. People might freak out a bit if they see a Synth with a Phaser.”

“Oh, right, didn’t think of that.”

“A logical conclusion, the Synthetics attack on Mar, could still be fresh in the minds of many that go to the academy. Even though it has since been proven to have been the fault of the romulans.” Tv’ell spoke up, their earlier disagreement seemed to have been forgotten. “Though it is a fear our classmates and colleagues will need to get over, as once you are Aboard a starship, you will in fact be issued a phaser.”

“Are we all forgetting that if Zed does go crazy and tries to kill everyone, it’s going to be with a Sword.” Zersa announced, speaking louder than maybe she should have been, as now everyone in the bar was looking at their table. “I mean Come on, he’s a sword guy.”

It was at this moment that Guinan made her reappearance with drinks in hand, passing them out to each cadet. “Alright, I got Ice Herbal tea for the lovely Vulcan. A shot of Synthale for our Boilan friend. Ice water for the human who thinks she’s a smartass. And for our resident Android…” she set down a tall glass of green-ish gray liquid, with a straw sticking out it. “I call it ‘The No-win-scenario’ enjoy.”

Zed's head tilted slightly, in a way that betrayed his android nature. a habit people weren’t sure if it was hard coded into him or if it was just something he picked up from his guardian. “Curious.” carefully he reached out and took hold of the glass, it was cold to the touch, then he brought it closer so he could actually taste it.

He detected a mix of Mint ice cream with shots of coffee and earl gray tea flavoring, all blended together into a liquid form. Guinan had even used real ice cream too, not the stuff the replactors spat out.

“You like it?” El-Aurian asked with that all knowing look of hers. Zed nodded, he wasn’t sure if this was something a human or another organic lifeform would enjoy, but he found the sensation enjoyable; it also helped that it was cooling his systems down considerably. “Thought, you might. Now you finish that or I’ll have Data on speed dial, letting him know you're not taking care of yourself.”

With that threat clearly hanging in the air, the Android gave El-Aurian a salute “Yes, sir.”

“Good.” Once more, Guinan wandered away from their table and back towards the bar.

“Zed, does your dad know the owner here or something?”

“Of course his dad knows her, they served on the Enterprise D together.”

“Guinan did not serve aboard the Enterprise D. She ran a bar that was located on the ship”

“Okay but they were still on the same ship together.”

“Zed’s Dad was on the Enterprise?”

“Yeah! Lt Commander Data, duh!”

“Data is Zed’s Dad?!”

“Actually Zed was created on Coppelius by the synthetics that live there, all of which were made from one of Lt Commander Data’s positronic Neurons. Technically, Data is more akin to Zed’sgrandfather.”

“Okay but-”

With a slight twitch of his head, Zed turned his audio sensors off, allowing him to completely tune his friends out in exchange for focusing on his PADD and his chosen subject.

A Study of the Borg.

There was so much about them that the federation still didn’t know or understand. At every point they were thought to have been beaten, the Borg would return, again and again. Assimilating entire worlds without even a thought.

And worse, trying to rescue those that had been taken was still a high risk low reward mission, most were lucky if they could get one out, anymore then that and you risked putting more people at risk.

And even then the lucky ones had to live with the mental and physical scars left behind. It only got worse the longer they were connected.

But there had to be a way.

Data had told him about the time the Enterprise D managed to save Admiral Picard from the Borg. how he had managed to isolate his captain's personality from the collective with his own positronic net. His Uncle Geordi La Forge had even told him about the Borg named Hugh, a borg who had managed to reclaim his sense of individuality.

There was even Captain Seven of the Enterprise G, she was a liberated Borg, and living proof that the Assimilated could be saved. Even if they weren’t able to remove the implants, they could still be freed from the collective.

But no ships were willing to get close enough or spend enough time around a Borg to do any real testing, and Zed couldn’t really blame them. Not even Android’s were completely immune from assimilation. Resistance maybe, but not immune.

There had to be a way but, Zed couldn’t even begin to think about how to go about it. And chances were, he’d never get the chance to try, after all, what captain would be willing to allow a Synth to try and save a bunch of Borg.

1. The wonderful, delightful, writer, creator, polyglot and haver-of-a-top-tier-sense-of-humor, Richie (aka @eugeneshelton) will be our co-mod for this year’s Sledgefu Week! Richie has been a Sledgefu truther for quite some time now, and is also one of the mods over at the Sledgefu Hivemind Discord. We’re lucky to have him and everyone tell him thank you!

I imagine it has happened on multiple occasions.

I am so excited you said that because i personally love Cub and Convex so much, they mean so much to me. Also Iskall!! I love that man!!! And Doc would be such a fun addition to the cast (I personally imagine him as an indigo blood because.... well. sometimes he reminds me of Equius. And despite my hatred for Equius i say this in the most affectionate way if that makes sense) (I dont hate Doc hes such a silly guy)

Dont feel too much pressure about the ships! I can't speak on behalf of anyone else but i know i personally am happy to wait to see them whenever youre ready to put them out, although i AM excited to see who.

I think word of mouth spreading also works really well, although I am genuinely so interested in how exactly it got up to Scar in the first place. As in like what is the lineage from Griann to Scar. I feel like I'd need to know the other blood castes of the cast, and also how closely you're sticking to troll society canon in the way that generally high and low bloods dont mesh too often.

Also, if you have decided it. Im very interested in learning who/what everyones lusus is? If you even just have a combination of animals for a few.

I'm assuming you welcome fanart, but if we slightly change designs/make our own designs (for trolls whose designs haven't made their appearance yet), is that ok?

Oh man, I think Griann definitely has to fish now & yes, he 110% fishes Scar up on multiple occasions. Actually, fuck it, that might be how they meet. In fact… while they knew each other to the extent of being vaguely recognized usernames on the VLARP forums earlier, they actually met in person when Scar got tangled up in one of Griann’s (illegal) fishing nets. Griann had been preparing himself for a fight or flight kinda situation when he noticed a violet blood in his nets, but that proved rather unnecessary. Scar, while he gave Griann some crap about how his nets ought to be more visible, was much more interested in chatting than actually in any way making Griann pay for the slight. This became A Thing, Scar occasionally getting caught up in the nets, though it was never really clear how often this was an accident or not. When Griann was looking for people for 3rd Life, he happened to mention it to Scar, who demanded he be allowed to play. Now, at this point, Scar was really just ‘that odd violet blood who can’t avoid nets & talks a lot & thank fuck doesn’t want me culled’ to Griann. However, when Griann recognized his username from around the community, he figured he’d give Scar a chance.

(There is definitely some angst in here somewhere about how Griann didn’t see Scar for multiple perigees after 3rd Life & how despite their moirallegence during the game, Griann came to doubt whether Scar still wanted anything to do with him after the blood bath in the cactus ring…)

Interesting to think of Doc as an indigo blood! Though I am tempted to make him a low blood with no psychic powers…. Hm… I’ll have to give this more thought… (Okay adding this last minute before posting, but gold blood Doc whose lusus is a swarm of bees that help run all his tech. You know. The Hivemind.)

Okay, so lusii. Here’s who I’ve got figured out from my list:

- Scar: some sort of mercat? Like a purrbeast, but aquatic. A murrbeast if you will.

- Lizzie: Gl’bgloyb, ‘cause she’s every fuchsia’s lusus

- Jimmie: canary. It just has to a canary. Tiny fragile bird that Jimmie’s constantly desperately trying to keep alive.

- Tangoh: a warden. Don’t ask me how wardens got on Alternia, but they are definitely a thing there in this AU. Other trolls (especially low bloods who don’t know him) are terrified of Pancakes, but Tangoh mostly regards him with fond exasperation as he needs a lot of looking after.

- Wrehnn: dog/woofbeast, think German Shepard

- Gem: A deer, but if deer were terrifying predators. It looks like a deer for the most part & people tend to underestimate Gem when she shows up on a skittery prey animal. That is, until her lusus opens her mouth & they see the impossible number of teeth she has.

- Bedubs: a horse of some kind, for sure. Maybe a unicorn, who are seen as fearsome beasts on Alternia. After all, what’s more hardcore than having a single, sharp horn for goring on your forehead?

- Pearle: owl-wolf. Like a wolf that’s got giant eyes & owl wings.

- Mummbo: giant moth

- Eethos: arctic fox with moose antlers

- Skizzl: Irish Wolfhound

- Martyn: snow creeper named Colin

- Joel: honey badger named Jeremy

- Cleaoh: Snow leopard

- Bigbee: a frog the size of a pit bull

- Impuls: ground pangolin. Can’t explain this really, but both my fiancé & I came to this independently. So uh I guess Impuls(e) is pangolin coded??? (Something about burrowing, something about being cute as fuck but razor sharp, something about looking like they want to ask you to a middle school dance.)

- Scohtt: sea otter

- Griann: chicken. Might even actually be a Minecraft chicken, not sure how committed to that bit I am.

Whoops totally just got absorbed in this & figured out all the lusii lol. But this was so much fun, my fiancé & I have been researching animals & YouTubers for the last like hour or so & now my search history is all stuff like “weird big cat” & “animals that are cute & friendly but also could definitely kill you.”

I’m sticking to the separation between castes pretty loosely, mostly because (spoiler) a lot of the out of game plot revolves around rebellion against The Condesce. So it would make sense that trolls who want to overthrow the status quo would be less bound by social norms. Every group pretty much has at least a blue blood or higher in it, & at least one low blood. Not necessarily because I planned that, it’s just sorta how things shook out.

For fanart, yes, omg I welcome it so much! If you want to tweak designs a bit or make up a design, that’s cool. (Though also, if you want in AU references for anyone, I’m always happy to throw together a rough reference sheet! Might take me a day or so, depending on spoon levels, but I’d be delighted to have a reason to draw any of the many trolls I haven’t yet!)

Now for information about Benil, warning for spoilers to TATA!

Benilos, (bay-nee-yoh/beh-neh-lohs), is the current BEN Drowned-adjacent character in Time and Time Again, the Creepypasta AU series written by me, @benilos (on here and AO3). He is also referred to as, Benil (beh-neehl/bay-nee-yuh), Bay, Bayfire, etc.

This BEN is a primordial god in the TCU universe (TATA's whole universe), the eldest of three. His primary motive is to find people known as kolivera, aka singers, which, in the simplest of terms, is a soulmate of his. Oftentimes, these are other iterations of BEN Drowned/Ben Lawman. He is considered a hivemind, though I'd compare him more to Ermac from Mortal Kombat, with the whole, souls of multitudes thing he's got going on. You will learn those souls as this blog fills up.

Benil is open for self-shipping, questions about himself, questions about his world and other Creepypastas. You will see TATA's MC, Twitch, quite a bit in this as well, and characters from @scrollypoly's Soulless Computer Boy fic will also appear, as SCB/TATA do have a canonical crossover, and there is a chance for spoilers of that fic as well (though these will be avoided as much as possible, so some asks may not get answered if it spoils Scrolly's fic.)

The biggest thing to warn you all of is the shipping that occurs here. I ship what me and Scrolly have jokingly named Bencest, which is essentially us shipping our various versions of BEN together. You will see this a lot here. It is the primary ship we have here, you will also see ocxoc, ocxcanon, canonxcanon, etc etc etc here. Self-shipping and OC inserts are encouraged and welcomed, so you can send me stuff about your OCs and ask for interactions as much as you please, just keep things age appropriate. If your character is underage, do not request NSFW content of my characters with them. Point blank period. I am almost 22 years old, I will lose my fucking mind y'all.

Hi there! Just wanted to let you know that I've been a silent follower of your work for a looong time (like since you wrote stony fic), and I've always been to shy or busy to actually say anything, but it's really inspiring to see how commited you are to your art and how you dont engage/appear outwardly unbothered by any negativity in the sw community- because it can get particularly dicey with the amount of vitriol the community can have for ships and content creators.

It's been great to see how your writing has evolved over the years and the way you just create the content you like to see in the world + how you do so with such a clear narrative voice that I can pick apart from other fic writers (in a very good way!) I took a long break from sw fic (both writing and reading) for a while after glimmerglanger was pushed offline but popped back to your profile, as I periodically do, and read your newer fic 'Ghosts of the Bent and Broken.' In all honesty, it got me down bad right back into the rabbit hole and I've been having a blast- I just wanted to essentially thank you and let you know that I've been a long time admirer even if I haven't said anything all this time and let you know that you have such a talent. And I must say, HELLO FELLOW STONY SHIPPER! I think this also proves the Dinluke hivemind is real because I was just talking with someone in the community who also has enjoyed Stony and got into the whole "let's write a thesis about how we feel" type of conversation (Dinluke is my current obsession; but people can feel free to leave asks about other pairings like Stony!). So yay! Always happy to meet another one! Yes, you are right. It can be. But I love this fandom and this ship and want to enjoy it to my best ability so I just sorta get lost in the hyper fixation and don't react to the intensity that can peek in unless asked directly. I'd rather do what I can to make smiles if at all possible, you know?

Okay on break.

Just hand rolled a character yesterday to get used to Mongoose Traveller 2e rules.

End result. Went SoL human instead of the anthro wolf, lion, insect, camel-ey taur, dolphin (with robot exo suits) , Orca (with robot exo suits), human but middle eastern, human but psychic, hivemind plant and Bwap. ..Bwaps are silly lizard people.

So, rolled 2d6 for the first four stats, then 3d6 drop the lowest for the last two. Optional rule. The numbers on the upper left are the ones plugged into each state in order from the start.

Went from 18 to 38 years old. Originally wanted to just be a better working ship breaker yards or mining asteroids. But we had a good edu stat so figured...let's go to uni! Started her base skills to be like she was born on a ranch so gained animals general skill with a specialization in Vetinary. Along with I believe medic for treating people...for game purposes. Thought maybe a physician or medic?

Got into Uni, gave her skills in administration 0 (good with paperwork) and advocate 1 (a pretty good lawyer basically) while at Uni she experienced romance! That ended so badly she now has a rival! (Rivals will legally try to screw you over and bring you down. Enemies want to fucking kill you, destroy your name and reputation and salt your fields)

Decided rival instead of enemy. But even though her bad relationship was downer, still managed a Edu roll of 11. Do graduated with Honors!

So with that bonus and with her skills. Risked it to becoming a merchant!

And in her first career after four years she didn't make her survival roll...with a +1 to Edu.

Got a mishap roll of 5. The imperium has restricted your trade and business so badly you got forced out of business.

Probably that bad romance from yni coming back to haunt her. But this mishap had a special condition! Free access to the rogue career! :D

...so she went from respectable honors graduate business woman to now being...A PIRATE TO GET REVENGE ON THE CORRUPT IMPERIUM FOR SCREWING HER OVER!

Still got 1 benefit roll and managed to get 30k in cash. Could word that is what she got away with before becoming a pirate.

Quick overview of the next 12 years of her life.

And was surprisingly successful. Pulled off two impressive crimes through planning (two terms getting 4 as the life event)

Throughout this we gained skills as remote ops, gun combat, vacc. Suits., pilot didn't decide what kind yet, ironically steward for serving high class passengers from being a free trader.

And from 32 onward managed to make aging rolls to avoid losing physical stats. Pirate life keeps her strong. However she now has enemies.

Cashed out, left the pirate life behind. With some armor, some cash, enough intelligence gain to turn that -2 into a -1. And still having a social status of 10. So familiar with higher society.

To summarize, she went off to uni from growing up with animals on some low-tech level backwater. Graduated with honors from Space University, tried to become a successful merchant, but got forced into becoming a pirate by the government and spent twelve years terrorizing corporate interests untill she "retired" to go with some friends to travel the galaxy on more adventures.
