i NEEED NEEDD a tutorial on how you draw & design mechs bc the way you draw them is literally perfection in every way. this is from an anon who wants to make mech ocs but is unsure where to start theyre so complicated to design

dusting off my tutorial brain

my style of mech is very influenced by transformers (mix of different continuities and tf artists that I like) so I look at a lot of characters for inspiration

There's a lot of stuff you could add to it too like vents, pipes, antennas, fins, wires, joints, etc..

🙋 on the topic of snakes and greco-roman antiquity:

the snake is THE chthonian creature by excellence!

it's the creature that is as close to the underworld as the greeks would ever see, crawling on the ground, disappearing into underground burrows. that is why so many monsters are depicted with serpentine elements, such as this Kerberos:

with his heads covered in snakes: that's because he's associated with the realm of the dead. this can (and in my mind's eye, does) reflect dankovsky's closeness with/proximity to death.

Medusa is another monster associated with snakes (even if the snake-hair is a later, roman canon; in greek antiquity they kinda depicted her as whatever was scary): she herself is a symbol of death (more specifically, the death you cannot face, but can only see through reflections [/other people]), and her snakes further this image of death.

the snake became associated, within that same time period, with medicine as @thanatika pointed out, this is because snake poison both kills (and if you were bitten by a snake in ancient greece most of the time you were fucked. straight up good luck buddy) and can be made into antipoison. this duality is reflected in the ancient greek word pharmakon, which means both "poison" and "remedy" (because all remedies are poisons if in wrong doses) (and fun fact, we've found a pharmakon vial painted of a medusa. the ancient "poison - do not ingest" sign);

hermes has his specific deal with his snakes, but i'm wondering if in the back of it there is not still this symbol of snake-as-death(-bringer), for one of hermes' facet was Psychopomp (he who helps souls from the world of the living to that of the dead) but i'm going off script rn. + in the early modern period, depictions of hermes' staff meant to signify rhetoric, eloquence; which themselves fit with dankovsky's lore of lectures.

there is also, for the snake, and not necessarily associated with antiquity, the symbol of the shedding of skin: rebirth, renewal, and this specifically fits dankovsky's Whole Deal with death a great lot. that also fits within the antiquity snake as chthonian: so close to the underworld it disappears in it (burrows), comes back out having shed: rebirth, renewal, and the ancient greeks were big on rebirth and reincarnation. it's almost metanarrative in a way; dankovsky in a constant state of death and rebirth because if he dies in the game, you just load your previous save.

Why do you think Daniil is associated with a snake? Like obviously the snakeskin coat but like snakes are often associated with being cunning and manipulative but Daniil is neither of those. It could just be how the town people view him but while they don't like Daniil I don't think they describe him like that either?

hey, sorry this has taken so long with not much of an answer, i've been really busy in my personal life recently!

if i remember correctly (from the few in-game days of classic i've played plus screenshots in fandom etc) he does get that comparison in-game as well? he definitely does from the kin in the marble nest - they call him moga, a snake-man.

i think it's partially the coat and partially just that the townsfolk are inherently distrustful of outsiders, likely especially big-city renowned academics like the bachelor. and i agree that he's not particularly either of those things, he wears his heart on his sleeve really, i do hope they keep him a shitty liar in pathologic 3
