Had a cute summer wedding moment with the family last night! It was super fun, especially when 7 different aunties asked me why I'm still not married.

part one of a suggestion from guppy over on the simscord! the wedding hijab from ts4's gp11: my wedding stories game pack converted to ts2, with 2 addons! there are 3 variants in total: the original ts4 one, one without the veil, and one with neither the veil nor crown ✨
all 12 recolors of each hijab are binned as hairs, with 3 families each. swatch under the cut! they are smooth-boned, animated, etc., with the highest polycount (the og ts4 version) being a cute 4388 polys!
DOWNLOAD: SFS | MF 🧕
credits go to ea/maxis for the original ts4 meshes & textures! 💓
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
the with veil (og) wedding hijab is only for yf-ef, whereas the others are for tf-ef. i was going to do tf but then remembered the blatant issue with teen marriages for young muslim girls in my own country (malaysia) and just... couldn't do it. the others aren't really marriage-themed so i did them for tf too, but if you want the og to be for teens you can do it yourself
SWATCH
Tumblr media Tumblr media
if there are any issues that you find with this set, please don't be afraid to let me know! happy simming, and when you download this, do keep in mind,

muslim things we need more of in media
teenage Muslim guys. we've all seen teenage/adolescent Muslim girls in media, how about more guys? give me a Muslim boy in high school who plays cricket and likes Atif Aslam. idk
Muslim parents and parent figures who are chill and not overly strict. half the time the "strict Muslim parents" are not even behaving in an Islamic way.
Muslims who aren't anti-feminist. Islam is a feminist religion. Women are highly encouraged to pursue jobs and higher education. Show more Muslim women in well-paying jobs in STEM and business fields.
Muslims who don't make up restrictions out of thin air. it makes no sense for a Muslim woman to go "oh i can't do [mildly secular thing], I'm a Muslim" BEHAN THERE IS NOTHING IN ISLAM THAT SAYS YOU CAN'T.
Muslim girls who keep their hijab on in front of non-mahram people at all times. yes, this post is about Samirah al-Abbasi and Ms. Marvel. can we get Muslim girls who actually take pride in their hijab and don't take it off for non-mahram men or insist that it's okay because "you're LIKE family to me"
accurate depictions of gatherings, especially weddings, in Islam. This may differ depending on nationality of the characters.
Accurate depictions of Muslims in relationships. Samirah al-Abbas from Magnus Chase is a horrible representation of this. The vast majority of Muslim girls do not get engaged at the age of 12. Most of us do not get engaged or married until we're in our 20s.
Muslims who don't get engaged to or marry their cousins.
adding onto that, Muslims who don't have boyfriends or girlfriends or romanticize the idea of having one.
Muslim women who don't have children and don't regret it.
Muslims who don't get engaged or married at all! It's Sunnah to get married, but it is not mandatory. You can still be a devout Muslim without getting married or having children.
Muslim MEN AND BOYS WHO FOLLOW THE HIJAB. the hijab is NOT just a head covering, it is a WAY OF LIFE that ALL MUSLIMS must follow. it is about MODESTY for both the sexes. Muslim men ALSO need to cover themselves to an extent. yes, the rules differ slightly from male to female Muslims, but they STILL EXIST FOR BOTH. I suggest reading up more on this topic if you don't know much about the hijab.
Muslims who are actively working to get closer to Allah and trying to stop any non-Islamic habits. Muslims who smoke, drink, eat non-halal food but are aware that this is haram and are actively trying to stop. Muslims who show that you don't have to be perfect, you just have to try to be better than you were yesterday. Muslims who are real in their struggles. No one criticizes Christians for being secular or not following their faith perfectly, why are Muslims subjected to so much scrutiny?
Muslims who are shown practicing their faith onscreen. Praying, making du'a, fasting, going to Umrah, even.
Add little bits of the Muslim faith in their everyday life. Instead of air freshener hangings in their cars, my parents have hangings with Islamic calligraphy and the du'a for traveling. We have a stack of prayer mats sitting in a corner of the living room. We have a bookshelf where the entire top shelf is copies of the Quran and other Islamic books. We always say the designated du'a before doing anything such as eating a meal, starting a trip, or even going to sleep.
AN ACCURATE DEPICTION OF ISLAMIC JIHAD. WESTERN PROPAGANDA HAS MADE USE OF YOUR IGNORANCE TO FEED YOU LIES AND DISTORT THE MEANING OF JIHAD.
There are three types of jihad: jihad of the heart, jihad of the mind, and physical jihad.
Jihad of the heart is the Muslim's internal struggle to be faithful and practice their religion wholeheartedly. It is the struggle against temptations of evil, of haram actions. It is the most important form of jihad and one that every Muslim partakes in every day.
Jihad of the mind is the struggle against misinformation about Islam. It is spreading education and information about the principles of Islam. It condemns forcing people to accept Islam. People are meant to be guided. They are meant to find their own path to Islam with the help of knowledge and resources to learn. this form of jihad is important as it keeps Muslims and non-Muslims informed about Islam.
Physical Jihad is an absolute last resort that a Muslim nation must partake in when there is a threat of war from another nation. Islam condemns violence and murder and always pushes its followers to resolve matters peacefully. In a situation where this is impossible, only then is physical jihad permissible. and it has strict rules about who the Muslims can fight. It is haram to kill anyone who is not actively fighting from the opposing army. It is haram to kill women, children, elderly people, and any civilians. It is haram to kill animals except for food. It is haram even to take from the land or damage it in any way. If an army calling itself Islamic is not following these rules, it is not partaking in Jihad. it is partaking in unnecessary slaughter and bloodshed. there you go.
sorry i went on a rant about jihad for a minute there lol, i've been meaning to do that though anyway.
please depict Muslims in media more. please depict us with respect, and with the proper amount of research and effort needed for accuracy. thanks. Ramadan Mubarak, free Palestine <3

Queen, how many likes, comment, ask do you need so that we can have chapter 4. As a peasant I will be happy to oblige about how many more are needed
I am on cloud 9 rn, okay? Because I just attended a desi wedding, and yall know how brown people go all out on weddings, proper fancy shmancy, right? So here I was dressed up in a HEAVY LENGHA CHOLI, MY MAKEUP WAS POPPING, FOR THE FIRST TIME MY HAIR WAS GOOD, and I wore GOLD JEWELLERY TOO, but the thing is.... I dressed up like it was Indian desi wedding.
It was a Pakistani desi wedding, and not only that, but it was a proper Muslim desi wedding, so even though it was just close family and friends, many women either wore hijabs or niqaabs, or dressed modestly (I was so envious of the niqaabis, they looked so cute with their eyes popping out. God please, I also want a niqaab 😭😭😭)
AND THHERE WAS ME IN MY CHOLI THAT HAD A CIRCULAR CUT IN THE BACK (WHICH IN AUNTY'S MIND = BACKLESS = SLUTTY DRESSING) but honestly I didn't care, I looked good.
The music was good, food was amazing, people turning their heads to look at me was an ego boost, the wind breezing in the back of my dress made me cool down, some aunties asked for my name, profession, details (looking for proposals for their sons)
So with my self esteem through the roof, I'm going to tell u that yes, I need a lot more of your comments and likes and asks. And they better be good.

untuk hari bahasa ini, saya cubalah mengajarkan semua tentang sikit budaya melayu dan berkongsi kosa kata juga (ENG TRANSLATION)
(for this language day, I will try to teach a little about Malay culture and share vocabulary as well)
i made the original post detailing some fun stuff abt my culture of being malay (specifically from perspective living as a Malay from Singapore), i want to do an english translation so its more accessible to those who don't speak malay. This isnt an exact translation (plus im adding mroe additonal info) so keep that inmind
FIRST, what is the Malay language? This is an Austronesian language, also the national language in Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore. Malay is usually written in Latin script, also known as Rumi. There is also Jawi script based on Arabic writing. If you want to know (most) letters in Jawi, this is a video stuck in my head from Andalus (I'm bad at writing in Jawi and Arabic too, even though I study, I don't know much;;;)
Malay culture is deeply connected with Muslim culture, that's why a lot of malay festivities and celebrations revolve around the islamic calender. one such celebration is Hari Raya. there are two ceremonies; Aidilfitri and Haji, I will talk about Hari Raya Aidilfitri only because it is close this year and most well known (for context, its litterally in april this year).
The previous month is Ramadan where we fast/puasa. We do not eat from Subuh (around sunrise) to Maghrib (around sunset) (these are two of the names of the prayer times, in Islam we are supposed to pray around 5 times a day during different intervals. it goes Subuh, Zohor, Asar, Maghrib, Isyak). Before dawn, want to eat Sahur and then pray. At Maghrib, want to eat to break the fast/ berbuka puasa (usually say "buka" for short). Also in this month before Aidifilti, the family will prepare by cleaning the house for visitors, buy new baju kurung, get kuih, etc etc.
aaaa there are a lot of kuih, here's anything I can name (many are from Singapore); kuih lapis, kuih salat? ondeh ondeh, kuih bahulu, kuih dadar, BISKUT CORNFLAKES OMG does that count?. there are many more lol.
Tumblr media
ALSO! In Singapore, during Ramadan, there is a huge Night Market in Geylang. Not only in Geylang there is a night market but this is very popular. There are MANY stalls selling food. Everyone who buys from geylang night market knows Ramly Burger, deep-fried Oreos, vadai, KEBAB, DENGDENG. (I like to buy rolled ice cream and chicken kebab mmmm)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Geylang too, they will buy traditional clothes to visit family. Baju kurung (ehh for traditional clothes, women wear baju kurung, men wear baju melayu but the names are the same anyway) is the normal clothing. Often, one household will choose to coordinate colors together (but it's not mandatory, lmao my family doesn't care)
For men, they wear songkok (that flat black hat) and samping (the long scarf wrapping around the waist)
For women, wear a sarong (skirt) with a long top. If desired, will also wear a tudung (type of hijab) (i should also clarify for muslim women its their choice whether they want to habitually wear hijab. its not just specific to just baju kurung. for example i have lots of aunties that dont wear hijab at all meanwhile i have a lot of aunts who do)
Tumblr media
Baju kurung is also worn at other festivities, such as weddings
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(my whole childhood I attended so many weddings, this is another topic lmaooooo)
On Hari Raya Aidifilti but before going to raya (this is what we generally call going out to see family), close family in will ask for forgiveness. (it's important the forgiveness is not one-sided, the adults will also ask forgiveness from the younger family members too). Usually this is when people start crying. After that, we go RAYA!!! When in someone else's house, if you are not working now, you can get duit raya! (because I grew up in singapore surrounded by chinese influence, I also call this "angpao" too)
Tumblr media
OHHHH THERE IS A LOT OF FOOD;;;; My grandmother would cook a lot during Ramadan and Hari Raya. Rendang, lontong, KETUPAT OHHH KETUPAT, CHICKEN CURRY (my mother every aidifitri cooks green chicken curry, FOR HARI RAYA AIDIFITRI ONLY, ohhhhh that's my favorite part, ASBFKASB I'M HUNGRY.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(theres also like way more cuisine than this, iu havent even mentioned nasi goreng and nasi lemak and briyani and FUCKIGN BEGEDIL;;;;)
ketupat is kind of icon to represent Aidifilti holiday, for example:
Tumblr media
other icons of hari raya include: bunga api, neon string lights, bamboo torches, etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love Hari Raya even thoug my feet hurt ALOT after visiting LOTS OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS OH MY GOD:;; it's okay if you take your shoes off in the house somehow your FEET WILL HURT at the end of the day;;;;;;
uhhhh others about malay culture? we have art! A martial art is silat melayu! I don't know much about this but it's great
Tumblr media
there is performance art: one example is dikir barat
youtube
juga ada permainan, ada yang terkenal ialah wau (kite)
Tumblr media
and congkak (like that one club penguin game, mancala, im not kidding)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there are many malay cultures that are also from indonesian culture because of its influence. (Mainly malay culture was influenced by its neighboring cultures such as from Thailand, Sumatra, Java. Malay culture were from Hinduism before then converting to Islam) That's why we have wayang kulit (natively from Java) (a lot of indonesian culture and malay cultures share similar things because of kinda their similar roots and their spread of their own culture, hence why we also have similar dishes, traditonal clothes, even our language is kinda 70% the same)
Tumblr media
Do you know; Singapore was discovered by Sang Nila Utama and was originally Malay kingdom (at that time the island was called Temasek before it was owned by the British) (the original indigenous of Singapore are called Orang Laut, litterally translated to "people of the sea"). That is why in Singapore, the language and the national anthem (Majulah Singapura) is in Malay. Singapore is not only for Chinese people, we Malays and Indians are also here;;;
(and im not at all from malaysia god please none of my relatives are. Malaysian is referring to the country, Malay is the language and the ethnic group)
There's a whole lot more I haven't even touched on, like lmao there's a whole thing about weddings and a whole baby shower thing.
theres also a lot of singaporean stuff i want to share i haven't even mentioned singlish but thats a post for another time

Does kamala's scarf have cultural significance? Would it be ok if Carol is gifted one by the khan family and wear it as a sash?
That is an amazing idea. I hope there's a 30 sec scene of that happening in the next Avenegers movie before the final fight. There is cultural significance in the sense that South Asians (Muslims and Hindus etc) tend to wear scarves around their necks or shoulder or head. It's a part of traditional attire. Kamala does this multiple times on her show for eid, the mendhi and wedding (Nikkah). This is separate from her religious beliefs where you're supposed to wear a full hijab (which she wears in a scene) as a Muslim. Red is also usually a South Asian color. But yeah, despite the cultural ties, it's not an issue if Kamala or her family gives Carol a scarf. It would be a sweet gesture.

Im not sure if you are familiar with him or not but is Klim Kostin a tatar muslim as well? I’ve noticed from some of his previous ig stories that he went to one of his cousins/childhood friend’s wedding (unsure) and one thing i realized that most of his female relatives were wearing the hijab (definitely wasnt tied in the usual babushka style.
Hi 👋 Klim Kostin is an Orthodox Christian. I don't know which storyis you're talking about (I hardly ever go on Instagram), but in Russia Christians, Muslims and other different religions live and coexist peacefully.
Tumblr media
And not to be unsubstantiated, I'll give an example, in the form of an excerpt from Klim's interview about religion:
-You seem very religious. Even the screen saver on your phone has a cross on it. How'd you come by it?
- My mom's very religious. She doesn't miss Sunday services, she can go on a weekday. Especially during the playoffs. A bishop I know, a big hockey fan, is always watching me. They pray that everything goes well for me.
I also try to thank God when something works out, and when it doesn't - to ask (for help). I believe that everything that works out is with God's help.
- Did you take communion?
- After moving to Moscow at the age of 11, I came to Penza every year and took communion before my birthday. The last time I took communion was in St. Louis. And now I'm back in Russia, and something distracts me. I think I will go, but I never get there.
- What is it like in churches in North America? Do they read the prayers in Russian or in English?
- In the Orthodox church in Edmonton, the service was in English. In St. Louis - in Russian. In Los Angeles there are a couple of churches where the service is purely in Russian. And there are some where they combine them, and the service lasts four hours instead of two. First they read in Russian, then in English. I was there, but I didn't make it to the end.
In Edmonton, I used to say morning prayers before practice and night prayers before bed. I usually spent about five minutes. I asked the priest if I could shorten the prayers so that I didn't have to read for 40 minutes. He said that what you believe and what is in your heart is enough.
- When you pass by churches, do you baptize every time?
- Yes, always. It has become a habit and sometimes I don't even notice it. It scares some people.
Tumblr media
The full interview in Russian: https://www.sports.ru/amp/post/3173499/
It feels like all hockey players from Penza are very religious 😁
I hope I answered your question ☺️

I'm currently reading the Remarkable Retirement of Edna Fisher, and it was bugging me that I didn't know why Amir was flinching when Edna touched him, so (based on Akida's hijab and Amir's prayer rug) I looked into customs of Islam and learned some stuff and I just want to say thanks for having so many different kinds of lives in this book (: I always appreciate learning real world stuff in fun ways.
thank you so much for reading! I had a lot of help with Amir's character from Muslim friends who kindly answered my questions and/or read early drafts and gave me feedback. I'd like to take this opportunity to recommend a couple Muslim authors and their books*!
Adiba Jaigirdar is an auto-buy author for me! three of her books are queer YA romance - The Henna Wars, Hani & Ishu's Guide to Fake Dating, and The Dos and Donuts of Love (the last one is coming out in June) - but she also has A Million to One, which is a heist story set on the Titanic. that one just released in December, so I haven't read it yet, but I'm SO EXCITED for it. check out Adiba's books on her website.
Priyanka Taslim is a fellow 2023 debut whose book I looked forward to for ages, and it did not disappoint! The Love Match is pitched as a Bangladeshi-American YA romance that will appeal to fans of Jane Austen (and also it will appeal to tea-lovers everywhere). it has fake dating, complicated family dynamics, and a love triangle that really kept me guessing. Priyanka also has an adult novel, From Mumbai With Love, anticipated to release early in 2024, so add it on GoodReads now. check out Priyanka's website here.
Kataru Yahya is another fellow debut whose book is alas not out yet, but I can't wait to read it! Home Is a Silhouette is a loose, contemporary retelling of Beauty & the Beast that is set in Ghana. If you haven't seen the cover yet, be sure to take a look, because it's ridiculously gorgeous. add the book on GoodReads now, and check out Kataru's Linktree here. (she is also a poet, and some of her poetry is linked on Linktree if you're interested!)
Aamna Qureshi is the definition of "it's about the range": if you're looking for an author who can do contemporary, fantasy, long-form, short-form - look no further. The Lady or the Lion and The Man or the Monster (a YA fantasy duology retelling of the story "The Lady or the Tiger") are out now. keep an eye out for When a Brown Girl Flees (2023), If I Loved You Less (2024), and My Big, Fat, Desi Wedding (edited by Prerna Pickett, 2024) if you prefer contemporary! see more details on Aamna's website.
Khadijah VanBrakle is another fellow debut, and her book comes out next month! Fatima Tate Takes the Cake is recommended for fans of Elizabeth Acevedo and Ibi Zoboi (um, YES) and is yet another debut with an absolutely gorgeous cover that I'm obsessed with. if you like coming-of-age stories that are gritty yet hopeful, be sure to give this one a look. see more details on Khadijah's website!
*I write adult contemporary fantasy, and you'll notice this list is like. mostly YA contemporary/YA romance with a sprinkling of YA fantasy. that is because, as much as I love adult fantasy and writing in the adult fantasy space, most of what I read in general tends to be YA, and most of what I've read since the pandemic started leans romance (because low stakes and a guaranteed HEA are exactly what I have needed since the pandemic started).

Some of the things I mention here are going to be upsetting. I’m only trying to inform people so if you feel like you may be triggered please don’t read.
(tw: misogyny, homophobia, violence, mentions of death, death penalty, hanging and flogging, violence towards women, child abuse)
The Islamic Republic is a government where women need their fathers’ permission to get married. Where married women need their husbands’ permission to be issued a passport and their permission to leave the country. Where only men have the right to end a marriage and if women want that right they have to specify it before the wedding and only if their future spouse agrees  they have the right of asking for a divorce.
The Islamic Republic is a government where boys as young as 18 have to spend 2+ years in mandatory military service in terrible and dangerous conditions. (This may also then affect their chances of going to certain countries because some of the places where these men have to service have been banned by those countries. These men have no choice in where they service and for whom but their lives are altered forever anyway.)
The Islamic Republic is a government where bigamy is legal for men but there is a possibility that women who cheat on their husbands get sentenced to be stoned to death.
The Islamic Republic is a government that sides with Putin and Russian on the Ukrainian war.
The Islamic Republic is a government whose president went on an international interview and claimed that are no homosexuals in Iran (he stayed president for 8 years). The same government that  punishes homosexuals by imprisoning them, flogging them and sometimes killing them (very recently two lesbian women were hanged by IRI)
The Islamic Republic is a government where people get flogged and whipped and fined for drinking alcohol.
The Islamic Republic is a government who has passed laws that indicate that only girl above 16 and boys above 18 are legally allowed to get married. However because of their incompetency, over 130,000 girls and 120 boys all under the age of 15 have gotten married only in the last 5 years. About 800 children born in the first six months of last year were born from mothers that were 10-14 years old.
The Islamic Republic is a government where men legally get double the inheritance their sisters get, when their parents die.
The Islamic Republic is a government that lies and cheats in their elections.
The Islamic Republic is a government take forces girls have to start wearing hijab from when they enter school at the age of 6-7 to go to all girl schools.
The Islamic Republic is a government who's destroyed Iran’s ecosystem to the point of no return. They have dried out rivers and lakes and let almost all wildlife to go extinct.
The Islamic Republic is a government that would regularly shut down electricity on its own people so they could mine Bitcoin for China.
The Islamic Republic is a government that has destroyed almost all of Iran’s historical monuments with their mismanagement and neglect. A country with thousands of years of culture and civilisation that has barely anything to show for it.
The Islamic Republic is a government where art (music, literature, film..) has to go under strict filtration system to be released “legally”, where underground artist get arrested as political prisoners.
The Islamic Republic is a government who refused to import foreign vaccination, even in the peak of the pandemic, an action that in turn led to the demise of hundreds of Iranian people.
The Islamic Republic is a government where people born from Muslim parents’ cannot change their religion legally. The legal repercussion vary but can be as grave as the death penalty by being hanged.
The Islamic Republic is a government where Twitter, Facebook, Telegram, Tumblr and Youtube have been blocked for years but almost all its politicians have active Twitter accounts. (In the past week Instagram, WhatsApp, and even LinkedIn and GOOGLE have been blocked)
The Islamic Republic is a government that has let so many of it people go hungry, in a country that has every kind of wealth. It has starved so many of its people, let so many of them go without water not because of poverty but because of cruelty.
The Islamic Republic is a government that started its reign of terror with the promise of freedom of choice and freedom of speech (at the beginning of the revolution even hijab wasn’t mandatory.) who has since then killed, imprisoned, beaten and silenced its innocent people. Iranians have been suffering for 43 years.
It is time for an end. It is time for justice.
