culmination of the story: mum shocked the uber driver when she said she was going to the kendrick concert. mum felt super cool at the arena

my brother felt super old at the arena (which.. same)

and after the show mum said "i didn't recognize all the songs but i enjoyed the whole thing. that's one captivating man"

in about 5 hours, my mom went from "sure i'll go to the kendrick concert with you", to "would your brother not also want to go ???", to "i'll check with his gf but NOT instead of me. i also want to go !!!!!" and now i have 3 tickets to kendrick for the whole lil fam

I really like the joenicky conflict in tog2 because it's not a high-drama "will this end their relationship" conflict, it's the kind of fight couples have where they have different opinions and are coming from different places but they understand each other so well it's almost an impediment. I wish the movie had been longer/given them more time to talk it out and resolve it, though I know that's not what the movie was about.

but my interpretation (and idk my philosophy about relationships and communication) is that there's always one part of a couple's fight that is about what they say it is about and then a second hidden part that is about each person's baggage that makes it a fight.

1) Why did Joe lie? Surface level because he wanted to protect Nicky, Andy and Nile from contact with someone they don't want to see while also being there for Booker. It's a selfless act. But once he's forced to unpack it a little, because he's actually incredibly scared of loss, both of Andy due to mortality and of Nicky as he reveals in their heart-to-heart. Pushing Booker away is too much like losing him when he's already scared of that. And then it becomes a lot less selfless and a lot more a thing he does for himself even if it is still fundamentally incredibly kind.

2) Why is Nicky mad? Surface level because Joe lied to him and it's super hypocritical since Joe was so mad about Booker in movie one. Once he digs a little deeper, it's because Joe lied to him, because Joe knew that Nicky has this vengeful, unforgiving side to him and wouldn't want Joe seeing or speaking to Booker and as much as Nicky wants to use these traits to protect Joe from hurt, Nicky also hates that coldness about himself bc he tries so hard to do good and he hates that Joe knows and sees that about him.

what is your favorite film of all time?

picking a favourite feels like picking a favourite child 😭 going off how much i thought about it right after seeing it and still think about it to this day, it probably has to be moonlight. i was nearing the end of my uni studies when i saw it and there's definitely a shift in how i look at movies post moonlight. it was also just kind of like all the things i'd learnt about for 4 years encapsulated in visuals? wild. and ofc the romance of all romances

2. what movie do you wish you could unwatch?

i mean. i love a hatewatch. but saltburn wasn't even a fun hatewatch.

and !! the goddamn fucking glass onion whatnot? rian johnson should not have ever gotten to release another movie after star wars and i will never calm down about it. we killed the self-righteous bbc!sherlock one liners in like 2007. i was there. i remember! ughghhghghghg. rian johnson count your days i am not joking

also. she with joaquin phoenix really pissed me off when i saw it for a class back in the day and it still haunts me because it's so loved? so highly rated? idk it just reeked of incel and it was set in some kind of tokyo-inspired place but only white people lived there. hate it.

14. do you like watching movies alone or with friends?

a good question. i love watching with people, because a key part of watching films is the audience enjoyment !! one reason why i love being in a cinema is experiencing it together and having other people gasping or laughing with you

and if you're not in the cinema, or you're alone in the cinema, you can talk! but i do get frustrated when people don't get basic basic things you're being shown on screen. so idk. 🥴
