Day 21 - Sage

Bellatrix pulled her daughter close to her chest, not caring about the blood that would inevitably stain her skin and clothes.

She dried her daughter's head with her nightgown, smiling at the soft black curls.

Her sister offered her arms, holding a warm towel with which to wrap her child. Bella took the towel and kept her child. The warm cloth smelled of white sage. Narcissa had been diligent about burning it throughout her labour because of some old wives tale she didn't bother listening to. Something about calming the mother and protecting the child. Bella had scoffed. Her daughter had all the protection she could ever need.

The pair of red eyes that spied them from the shadows by the door gave her all the assurance she needed.

Nothing would happen to her precious child. Nothing her Master did not deem so would come to pass.

The preternaturally still figure waited while Narcissa pulled bedsheets and covers from the bottom of the bed up to Bella’s waist, trying to preserve some form of modesty. The Healer, half in awe and half in terror, dutifully checked the health of both mother and daughter with two swift flicks of her wand.

Both witches were quick to retreat then, knowing they would be summoned later to tend to Bellatrix and her child, but that for now they had to be content with the bare minimum.

The Dark Lord was waiting to meet his heir.

Bellatrix kept her eyes on her daughter’s features, committing them to memory as her fingers both traced and caressed them.

The little girl had quieted, snug against her mother’s chest, lulled by the familiar heartbeat.

Only when Lord Voldemort’s shadow covered the both of them did she raise her eyes to him. He was bending over the two of them, a hand on her shoulder, light and soft, his thumb caressing the curve where her shoulder and her neck met.

“Well done, Bella,” he said, barely above a whisper, something akin to wonder in his face.

He caressed his daughter’s forehead with his thumb, careful not to touch her skin with his claw like nail, hissing to her.

The baby in Bella’s arms turned her head towards the sound, her eyes opening. Bella found them to be dark, like her Master’s had been in his youth, though the shape of them was hers. She blinked at her father, then turned her face back to her mother’s skin, searching.

“I think she’s hungry, my Lord.”

Lord Voldemort hummed his agreement. A louder hiss sounded in the room, one coming from the floor. Lord Voldemort replied to it, just before a pair of golden eyes emerged into Bella’s field of vision. Nagini’s forked tongue displaced a few still wet curls on the baby’s head, not that the little girl seemed to mind.

She did open her eyes again, and Bella stared, her mouth agape, as her dark eyes turned first to grey, like hers, then red, like her father’s.

“I’d say she’s earned her meal, Bella,” Lord Voldemort said, smiling at the display. “And you should rest. I’ll order Narcissa and the Healer back in.” He kissed the crown of Bellatrix’s head, a tenderness he had not shown her since the gone times of the First War.

She leaned into it, daring to turn her face up to him, her free hand moving of its own volition to caress his jaw. Neither cared for the blood on her fingertips.

Lord Voldemort kissed her squarely on the lips, utterly taken by the sight of her with his child in her arms.

He stood up and turned away quickly then, hissing a command to Nagini, who clearly begrudged being made to leave.

Narcissa returned at his command, and smiled discreetly at the image of Bellatrix nursing her daughter. Bella looked into her eyes and smiled openly. Neither had expected her to be a natural at this, both refusing to admit it.

“Where’s the Healer?”

“Coming, Bella. Is something wrong?”

“No, I don’t think so.”

“Don’t worry about her. I was told to keep her in the next room once her work here is done,” Narcissa said, her voice even and unworried.

Bellatrix knew it meant the Healer’s memory of all this would be erased, and replaced with something suitable to justify her absence. She was one of them, an ally to the cause, her skills useful, but young and untested. Lord Voldemort would not allow her to keep any notion of his heir, or why Bellatrix had been away from the battlefield for so long.

From the door, he nodded to her. Then left, Nagini’s coils following in his heels.

Bellatrix followed Lord Voldemort’s shadow as he moved away, noticing how the tang of iron and the smell of smoke and ozone he carried everywhere, underneath the sandalwood he wore, were slowly overpowered by the white sage again.

Grian sighs; it's Scar's point, now, and they both know it. "Can we at least move closer to the fire?" he complains. "Well, I don't know, we'll have to ask Queen Jellie over there for her opinion." Scar politely directs his next question to her, projecting his voice so it curls around the chair like smoke. "Miss Jellie, can we come sit by the fire?" Jellie's tail flicks, an idle, irritated motion. After a moment, she yawns again, then tucks her head under her paws. "I think that's rather conclusive, don't you?" Scar asks Grian. "I think you're being ridiculous," Grian replies dryly, "and I'm shocked you aren't taking this opportunity to pet your cat." The gasp Scar sucks in is one of sheer, mock horror. "I do believe you're right, Grian! I can't believe that slipped my mind. I can't let my sweet baby Jellie go unpet— let's move, come on, up you go."

Other than that tho i have nothing going on, just a chill day :] my household is very relaxed abt holidays generally; our tradition is that we have a charcuterie board every xmas, so we've got a good spread of cheeses for that this year, including a bellavitano espresso that im VERY fond of. No red dragon tho, which is my favorite 😔😔😔😔 (can u tell i love cheese skdbskdnns) but we preserve<3 /silly

small update

ok so um I got my number theory paper today, and the TA had cut marks for me because i left the answer at 66^2 and not 4356 (fermat's little theorem) 😔 I even wrote the full proof

my friend told me I should mail the TA about this, I got 14/20 and should be getting 17or18/20 😔

scores aside, number theory is so much fun, so much fun. the only good thing here is that I know the concepts well, and I fully knew the paper (still fucked it up, because I'm so frickin slow while writing and time). and it hurts worse because there's not enough proof that validates my knowledge. which in turn makes me question if i actually do have any.

I am, in general, a person who does well in concepts but screws up the exams (70% of the time) and I'm trying, I'm trying to get myself out of this "exam paniK" that I often spiral into, just minutes before the exam. I hope I change and grow; I hope, I hope.

AHEJAHAJAHS HELLO BELOVED ^_^ I won't lie I used to find him kinda mid but in today's episode just Switched something in my brain. Something about his calm, collected voice very plainly stating that if Eclipse tries to do anything, he'll rip him to shreds.... UGHHHH IT HAD ME TWIRLING MY HAIR N GIGGLING FOR REALZIES HEJAHAJSHD

He's a pretty secretive and "speaks in riddles" kinda guy, so while we don't outright know everything he's done, he did very much tell us today that he 1) basically killed his Moon to take his knowledge because he thinks that his Moon just wasn't using it right, and 2) he has installed... something, into Eclipse's head painful style. We don't know what it is yet but he said that if he can do that to Eclipse, then he'll tell him how to maybe bring someone back from a dimensional collapse. Not that Eclipse had a choice either way LMAO

Before, I thought his collected mannerisms were a bit cheesy because it's so blatantly inspired by Evil Morty and it was like OOOOKAY MAN but he's actually shaping up to be pretty a damn interesting character!! He's more involved in the multiverse side of things and, considering he said he "reprogrammed" a bunch of the people in his dimension (<which, looking back, could be another blatant lie, like how he said he just made his Moon more "compliant"), he's just a very eerie presence.

He knows a lot and that leads to him being a very important person to talk to in most scenarios, but he also knows he's valuable to talk to, so he strikes these deals that people aren't thrilled about but usually just go "well. its this or I know absolutely jack shit" and it fascinates me.
