weird facts- s.reid
a/n: intended for fem reader, but imagine what you like:)))))))))
summary: you finally meet spencer's friends after a very long time, it's just... they don't know about you
pairing: spencer reid x reader
warnings: general cm topics, talk of murder, kissing, suggestive
Spencer felt ill. You weren’t picking up any of his calls, weren’t answering any of his texts, and you hadn’t been seen for a whole 24 hours. According to your friend who was staying over at your house last night, you had gotten a call from work and it meant you had to travel, but it was meant to be within the country, so why weren’t you answering?
“Pretty boy?” Derek called from across the bullpen. “We’ve got a case.”
Spencer quickly followed Derek into the conference room, even if his mind was elsewhere. It sadly, was a mass-murder scheme that they only had a few hours to figure out.
“Oh yes,” Hotch said under his breath. “We have some help, these are Agents Riley, O’Callahan, and Dr. Y/l/n. They all work with unsubs like these everyday and the doctor here has a lot of background from her time overseas. Please use their help and expertise,” he stated before getting up and ending the meeting. The office was buzzing with movement, but Spencer was too awe-stuck to see you in front of him to move, or really notice the rest of the world around him. It had been 5 months since you’d seen each other in person. Both of your jobs made it practically impossible to see each other more than a few times a year but neither of you minded, you loved each other.
“Earth to Spencer Reid!” Derek shouted at him and finally broke him out of his trance.
“Yes?!” He startled, ripping his eyes from your figure immediately.
“Can we focus on the case please? Not the pretty doctor,” Derek shot you a wink and you rolled your eyes, still unaware of Spencer’s being there because of your engrossment in your files.
“Yes, fine!” He hissed, beginning the geological profile.
“Spencer?” You ask, shocked at his being there.
“Hey honey-” He smiled sheepishly as you wrapped your arms around him in a comforting embrace. The rest of your team and his all looked on, deeply confused. Spencer placed a soft kiss onto your cheek as you smiled. Spencer was over the moon, you were here. You were in his arms.
“You two know each other?” Agent Riley said with a smirk on his face. “Is that the boyfriend?”
You pulled away despite wanting to hold on longer. You picked back up your casefiles with a contented smile. “Shut up Riley.”
Spencer’s face was red as Morgan, Prentiss, Jj, and Rossi all looked at him in shock.
“My man,” Derek smirked, giving him a less than soft slap on the back. “Congratulations, how new is it?”
“It’s been 4 years, 77 days, 5 hours and,” He took a split-second to look at his watch. “And 47 minutes.”
Everyone’s jaws dropped more.
“You’ve been dating him for 4 years?” Agent O’Callahan practically shouted. “We only heard about him for the first time last week!”
“Can’t anyone have privacy anymore,” You muttered, diving into yet another casefile.
“I have to ask you everything about this-” Derek turned to you but you cut him off.
“No, you have to build your profile,” You reminded him. “Ask me everything when we catch these fuckers.”
They didn’t need to be told twice.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You sat in the crowded bar, Derek on your right and Spencer on your left, his hand holding your thigh under the table.
“So, he tells you all the weird facts he tells us too, right?” Derek laughed, entertained by your relationship.
“Yeah,” you shrugged. “But I enjoy ‘weird’ facts.”
Derek nodded his head. “You two are seriously perfect for each other,” he smiled. You could feel Spencer squeezing your thigh, his hands getting sweater by the second.
“He definitely spits out random facts during sex,” Derek said to the blonde woman next to him and Spencer awkwardly cleared his throat, knowing his own tendencies to not shut up, even in the bedroom. You laughed along with them, not actually giving them an answer.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You walked home with Spencer’s hand in yours. You had successfully caught the unsubs, you had stopped the attack, and now you had time to spend with your brilliant boyfriend.
“Your friends care about you a lot,” you said as you walked down the dark street. Spencer chuckled.
“They like you a lot,” he admitted. “Probably more than they like me.”
“Spencer, Derek looks at you like you’re his little brother, stop it. They’re just happy that you’re happy,” you smiled. “You are happy, right?” You asked, standing outside his apartment block.
Spencer chuckled at your question, like he could be anything else. You were the kindest, smartest, and most incredible person he’d ever met. You cared and loved him so deeply. You were his everything.
“I’m more than happy,” he smiled before pressing a kiss to your lips.. His glasses slightly hit off your nose but neither of you minded, his hands began to explore as you pulled away and grabbed his hand, pulling him upstairs his apartment block, ready for another night of ‘weird facts’.

ethan edwards x fem! reader
warnings?: cursing, angst, fluff, kisses
masterlist
-
you hopped off your bed to the light taps on your door. you opened the door expecting to see your mom but instead are met with the presence of your long time close friend.
“ethan?” you question, scanning the look on his face. to you, he was never hard to read and you could tell something was wrong.
“can i come in?” he asks.
“yeah yeah of course.” you say back up and letting the boy into your room. you sit back in your spot on the bed as he stands in silence after putting his bag down, typing something on his phone.
“what’s wrong with you?” you ask, noting his unbreakable frown.
“huh?”
“what’s wrong? are you okay?” you ask.
“yeah i just-“ he starts and pauses, trying to think of what to say. you could tell he was holding back.
“just spill, you know i wouldn’t judge you.” you say, hoping to soothe the boy, something you’d figured out years ago.
“well, you know it was my last day of classes and i’d been talking to one of my classmates, in class of course, and we were kinda like getting close and flirting whatever. like an in class crush type of deal and i was gonna ask for her number today but then. fuck.” he pauses, pressing his lips to a thin line.
“and then?” you urge him to continue.
“she fucking asked me if luca was single.” he sighs out.
“well that’s just rude of her.” you say, seeing how he would react.
“i gave her his snap and stuff but like, i don’t know. it made me feel really terrible.”
“i mean that’s fair, but why?”
“because y/n. this shit always happens to me. every single time i think i have a shot at a girl, she wants one of my friends. like am i not good enough? not attractive? like what’s so wrong with me that i can’t be wanted.” he breathes out.
“oh eddy.” you frown, beckoning him to sit on your bed.
“i’m sorry, that was a lot you probably didn’t wanna hear.”
“no no, keep talking, i know there’s more. it’ll make you feel better.” you say placing a sympathetic hand on his arm.
“i just want someone to love me and to want me. i’m 21 for christs sake. all of my teammates and my friends have girlfriends. i just feel left out and it sucks. i’m happy for them of course but i just want someone for me to love and they love me back. i really don’t feel like im asking that much.” he says, trying to hide the tears that fell as he spoke from his heart.
“no one will sit and listen to how i feel, ever. the feeling of being unwanted is like this endless fucking void that can’t just be filled by hookups, i just feel myself slipping deeper everyday.” he continues, less shy about his tears now. you lean up and wrap your arms around him in his fragile state, causing him to release the damn that threatened to break. you lean back, holding the brunette to your chest. the two of you were never very physical but at this moment it was the only thing you could think of to help him.
“i’ll listen ethan, i’ll always listen to you. i’ll always be here for you. it’s gonna be okay.” you say, hugging onto him tighter. you hated seeing him this upset, you’d never seen him like this before and it broke your heart. you found yourself shedding a few tears yourself. he sits up from your grip and observes your state, tears dampening your cheeks.
“why are you crying y/n?” he perks up, wiping the tears that fell.
“because ed, i can’t stand hearing you say this. i can’t believe YOU feel unwanted and unloved. people are stupid to not see who you are. ethan, you’re so lovable and everyone is a fucking dumbass for not wanting you. you’re the sweetest guy i’ve ever met, and i know we’ve been friends since forever ago but i feel awful. i feel like i could do more to make you feel better.” you say remaining strong on your statement, the urge to cry fading away.
“how about this, you stay the night with me. we have a movie night and stay up and talk and then tomorrow we have a lake day. just me and you.” you offer as he nuzzles back to your chest. an unfamiliar feeling.
“your dad will let us take the boat?” he asks.
“i mean he won’t let anyone else drive it except you so.” you giggle.
“for real?” he says sitting up.
“yes.”
“sick.” he replies, getting comfortable on his side of the bed for the night. the two of you sat in a soothing silence as a movie played on your tv. as the a/c kicked in you grew cold, goosebumps littering your skin. you buried yourself under your comforter, trying to avoid making your discomfort being obvious.
“you good?” he asks.
“yeah, just really fucking freezing.”
“come here.” he says pulling the covers over him, pulling you to his side. you drape your arm over his toned and shirtless abdomen, you heart rate spiking at the contact. you didn’t know why you felt so nervous. well you did, but you weren’t going to admit it.
“thank you eddy.”
“of course y/n/n.” he smiles, placing his chin on top of your head. you could get used to the feeling of being in his warm embrace. as the night continued, you hardly lost contact with each other. talking and laughing in the comfort of his arms.
“you think we should go to sleep?” you sit up checking the time on your phone.
“probably, we got a busy day tomorrow.” he giggles, shutting your tv off and laying down getting comfortable.
“g’night ethan.”
“night y/n, sleep good.” he says quietly as the two of you drifted off to sleep with the thought of each other on your minds.
-
“you ready?” you ask standing on your back deck.
“as i’ll ever be.” he smiles, taking the bag from you and walking down the deck. he steps onto the bought tossing the back to the ground before reaching out a hand to help you onto the boat.
“thank you kind sir.”
“of course madam.” he replies and a smile spreads widely across your cheeks.
“alright let’s get this shit show on the road.” he says turning the key, the engine kicking on.
“please don’t get me beat up this time.” you say grabbing onto his shoulders.
“i’ll try.” he smiles as you sit in the co pilot seat.
“good.” you reply, relaxing as he cruised off smoothly. you loved watching him drive as he smiled, bringing the two of you to corners of the lake you hadn’t seen before, your heart fluttering as he talked about all the good memories he had with his buddies there, but the feeling of sadness oozing its way in. he hasn’t been with them much outside of hockey in months, let alone here on the lake.
he slowed the boat to a stop, shutting off the engine and tossing the anchor off the edge. you were in a quiet area, no other boats anywhere to be found. he sat back in his seat without a word. you stretched your arms out as you got comfortable in your seat, ethan taking your hand in his from across the walkway. your face slowly turning pink as he adjusted his grip on your hand as he sat on his phone. his thumb brushing back and forth on your knuckles gently.
“hey eddy.” you say and he looks up not letting go.
“i’m glad you’re here with me.” you smile, squeezing his hand.
“me too.”
“i’ve never seen these parts of the lake before, they’re gorgeous.” you say, taking in the territory around you.
“i was hoping i could make some new memories here.” he smiles turning his head to look at you.
“well i hope im doing an okay job.”
“you’re doing more than okay y/n.” he giggles, a blush spreading across his face. you stand up out of your chair, sadly letting go of his hand.
“shall we?” you ask, holding up your life jackets.
“we shall.” he smiles. moments later, the two of you jumping into the water.
“jesus it’s cold.” you say re-emerging from the water.
“a little yeah.” ethan giggles, shaking the water out of his hair. you swim over to him, wrapping your arms gently around his neck, resting your chin on his shoulder from behind.
“i think that’s a little better.” he says quietly.
“yeah.” you sigh. the two of you remained in the water for a while longer swimming and talking, laughing. it felt nice to be out on the lake alone with your best friend, who you soon hoped would be more than that.
“should we go find a new spot?” ethan asks, helping you back onto the boat.
“yeah we should.” you reply, wrapping yourself in a towel and sitting on the bench seat, ethan plopping down right next to you.
“today has been really fun y/n.” he smiles at you.
“yeah it has.” you reply.
“for the first time in a while i’m not worried about anything else. i haven’t felt this content in so long.”
“me either ed. i’m so happy to be here with you right now.” you smile, taking his hand back into yours. you say in a comfortable silence for a brief moment before he takes your cheeks into his hands, bringing your lips to his for a moment. he pulls away as your face burns red. you were scared he would regret it.
“i’m sorry that was-“ he starts and you interrupt him by pulling him back to your lips, melting into the kiss instantly, his hands placed delicately on your waist as your hands rest comfortably on his cheeks. you pull away giggling as he’s forehead lands on your collar bone. you kiss him on the temple as he sits up.
“let’s go to a new spot yeah?” you ask, brushing his hair out of his face.
“okay.” he smiles softly, the two of you taking your place back in your seats.
-
you say freshly showered on your bed as ethan returns, brushing his hair dry with his towel. he tosses the towel in your hamper and hops back onto your bed, finding his way cuddled to your side.
“hey ethan.” you say, twisting his damp locks between your fingers.
“yeah?” he asks leaning up a bit.
“seeing you so fragile yesterday was honestly really hard for me, i wasn’t really sure why but, i know now.”
“what was it?”
“because all this time i wanted you.”
“what do you mean?”
“i want you ed. i want to hold you, kiss you, love you. it broke my heart hearing how unwanted you felt. but it hurt me because i had gone so long feeling this way and ignored my feelings.“ you admit and he smiles.
“i’ve liked you for years, i was just scared you’d never feel the same way. i just wanted female attention to replace how i felt about you. i didn’t wanna ruin our friendship.”
“i love you ethan. so much. please let me love you, the way you deserve it.” you say as he pulls you into his chest.
“thank you y/n. god, i love you so fucking much.” he replies lifting your chin with two fingers and bringing your lips back to his, the two of you now more inseparable than before.

SKINNY DIPPING
SUMMARY: ellie, your perfect high school girlfriend, is back in town after college. what’s one date?
PAIRING: modern!ellie williams x reader
WARNINGS: n/a
A/N: i had an idea!!! pls enjoy while i finish the other 3 ellie fics lol
‘ WE’VE BEEN SWIMMIN’ ON THE EDGE OF A CLIFF ’
“oat milk latte for ellie.” your head shoots up hearing the order called off. it couldn’t possibly be her.
your staring at her when she turns around and makes eye contact. a smile forms on her face and she makes her way over to the table you’re at. “hey.”
“hi.” she points at the seat, you nod and she sits down. her eyes flicker away to not fall, but she brings them back to yours instantly. “how are you?”
“good.” she clears her throat, a comfortable smile on her face. “how are you? how’s your family?”
you roll your eyes and let yourself get comfortable. “theyre fine. my mom asked about you the other day.”
she leans back into her chair, one hand on her cup and the other on her thigh. “she did always love me more.” ellie teases. you kick her shin lightly and she hisses in pain.
your jaw drops. “oh stop, that did not hurt!” you watch the pout form on her face and kick her again, a little harder. you hear her whisper something as she grabs her leg. “that, maybe.” she gently kicks you back in retaliation. “so, what are you doing back here?”
she sips her latte before answering. “well i finished school, figured id see who wanted to hire me here before i went looking elsewhere.” you nod as she talks, taking all of her in. your ellie. “what about you? what’s like been like without me?” you know shes teasing but something inside you missed her.
“sunshine, smiles, and rainbows!” you close your laptop and give her your whole attention. “it’s been okay here, weird not seeing you and dina everyday.” she nods in agreement. “i’ve got an internship now, and a job, but not a career yet.”
talking with ellie is easy, it always has been. if she hadn’t gone away for college you might still be together. you take the time to learn everything new. you study the new freckles and a scar on her cheek. her voice is something you could listen to for years and never bore of.
“this was really nice.” ellie says as you pack your bag and she finishes her drink. “is there a chance we could do it again? maybe over dinner?” she leans forward on the table as she asks. “at miller’s?” the name of the restaurant makes you sigh.
you shake your head with a smile. “i dont know, sounds a bit… nostalgic, doesn’t it?” she shrugs and plays with the fingers on one of your hands.
“maybe. but lets do it anyways. it’ll be fun.” those green eyes would be the death of you.
the conversation at dinner came easy, ellie guiding you. it was nice to be back with her, in your own world in the quiet restaurant.
“have you dated anyone?” ellie asks, not exactly wanting to know.
you scoff as you take a sip from your glass. “not really. a couple flings but, nothing serious.” you say as you set down the glass. “you? im sure there were plenty of girls for you in santa barbara.”
“i dated a girl for awhile.” she smiles as you tense up and avoid her face. “broke up with her though.”
you hum. “and why’s that.”
“because she wasn’t you.”
you let out a breath you didnt know you were holding as a smile fights its way on your face. “ellie…” she takes your hand.
“let’s get out of here.” her eyes stare into your soul, convincing you silently.
the smile breaks free and you nod. “okay.”
you pay more attention to ellie than the roads as she drives. studying her profile, the lips you’d missed these past for years.
“take a picture, it’ll last longer.” your cheeks burn as ellie glances at you but you dont dare look away. its a few more moments before she slows and parks.
you glance around as you unbuckle and notice a familiar house. “dina’s place? weird place for a date.” she rolls her eyes and jumps out, running to get your door. “still quite a gentleman i see.”
“only for you babe.” she takes for you and leads you towards the house, but turns to the backyard rather than the door. you go to protest but she beats you to it. “don’t. just trust me.” she pulls you through the tall gate and into the backyard.
“i was gonna propose the beach, but then i remembered we are in jackson.” she smiled and pulled her top off.
you laugh. “ellie, what the hell are we doing here?”
ellie looks at you like it’s obvious. “we’re here to swim babe, duh?” shes stripping out of her pants now and you grab her arms to stop her.
“you have to be joking!” but she just shakes her head and jumps in, only her bra and underwear on. “i’m not getting in.”
she swims to the edge and reaches for your hands, which you mistakenly give her. “guess i’ll have to pull you in.”
you yell for her to wait but she’s already going, pushing back from the wall and pulling you with her. you pull her close as you come up to the surface.
“ellie!” she laughs and holds you in her arms. “i hate you.”
she shakes her head. “no you don’t.”
“no, i don’t.” its quiet, only the sounds of the water as you stand with her. “kiss me.”
who’s she to say no to that?
“ellie? is that you? angel? what the fuck!”

Remember You Even When I Don't (3)
Summary: A training accident, the doctor had told him. A nasty one that led him here, laying in a hospital bed with a splitting headache and an inability to remember the woman sitting beside him. What he did know, though, was that you were the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, and you felt important to him. That, as it turns out, would become an understatement.
Words: 4.7K
Pairing: Bradley Bradshaw/Reader (no use of y/n, so can be read as unnamed oc)
Warnings: angst, hospitals, memory loss, language.
Notes: The response for this continues to blow me away. Thank you all so much! Hearing your thoughts about these two makes me so happy and is so encouraging to write a little bit faster. Please continue to comment and reblog, and my inbox is always open!
This was inspired by a one shot by the lovely @roosterforme and would not exist without her assistance. If you haven't read any of her stuff, please check out her masterlist - you won't be disappointed!
Part Two
_________
He dreamt of sparkling lights and cobblestone streets. When he roused consciousness, he thought he could smell pumpkin candles and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.
He woke slowly, chasing after the smell and the visuals as they evaporated from his view. He blinked several times, adjusting to the fluorescent light and white walls of his hospital room.
“Well well well, look who decided to wake up.”
It took a moment for the words to register in his mind. He looked to his left, where he had grown accustomed to seeing you sitting, only you weren’t there this time. Instead, he saw someone he recognized very well, smirking at him like only she could.
“Sorry for keeping you waiting,” he grunted out as he adjusted himself on the bed and raised it up so he wasn’t lying down as far, making it easier to look at her.
“You look like shit,” she continued.
Bradley snorted. “Thanks, Phoenix. Appreciate that.”
The smirk on her face fell into a soft smile. She reached out and laid her hand on his, squeezing gently. “It’s good to see you, Rooster.”
“Yeah, it’s good to see you too,” he nodded, and he meant it. “How…long has it been?”
Like she usually did, Nat knew exactly what he meant, and he was grateful he didn’t have to explain. “For me? Five days. I hear it may be a little longer for you, though. Based on the date you told the doctor, it’s been six months since I was sent to Korea without you.”
“Five days? So…”
“I was in the air with you when you went down,” she confirmed. “We’ve been stationed here together for almost three years.”
“Lucky you,” he murmured as he rolled this new information over in his head. Learning that he was stationed in San Diego, Fightertown of all places, as part of a permanent detachment at Top Gun was a lot for him. The last place he remembered was D.C. But learning he had been with Phoenix here the whole time, for three years, brought another question to his mind. He took a glance around the room, even though he knew they were alone.
“We finally talked her into going home and taking a shower about an hour and a half ago. One of the guys might con her into taking a nap, too.”
The coffee cup from the day prior flashed in his mind again. “We?”
“Mhm,” She hummed, meeting his eyes again. “It’s not just you and me anymore, Bradshaw. We found ourselves a whole, big ass family here. Imagine that, huh?”
He could always count on Nat to never beat around the bush with him. He never knew how much he appreciated it until now, when he had never felt so out of the loop before.
“Anyone I know?”
She barked out a laugh, her eyes shining with something that looked like mischief. “Oh, Rooster. I don’t know that you’d even believe me if I told you.”
“That bad, huh?”
She was still laughing when she leant forward, speaking like she was sharing a secret with him. Bradley supposed that in a way, she was.
“What would you say if I told you Bagman has been here to visit you everyday?”
Bradley’s face scrunched up in disbelief, “Good joke.”
“I told you that you wouldn’t believe me,” she said, her voice very much taking on the I told you so tone that she was so good at. She picked her phone up from her lap, scrolling for a few seconds before handing it over to him. There was a picture displayed on the screen of a group of people all donning their traditional green flight suits with an F/A-18 in the background. And there, right in the middle with his signature smug grin, was Jake fucking Seresin, arm wrapped around Bradley’s own shoulders like it was completely normal to do so.
“Well I’ll be damned.”
“Tell me. What’s more shocking? Hangman being your best friend, or finding out you have a wife?”
She was teasing him, Bradley knew, trying to ease some of the obvious tension in the room. He looked at the picture again, trying to place names with faces. He recognized Payback and Coyote, and Harvard and Yale, but the rest were unfamiliar to him. He studied it for another moment, but no memories came with it. There was a flash of disappointment when he handed her phone back to her.
“Pretty even, I guess.”
Despite his words, they both knew it wasn’t really even. He had known Hangman for a decade and the rivalry had never really been more than that. But you, on the other hand…you were something Bradley never anticipated or thought he’d have. He’s still in shock at your existence, still something more than perplexed at how you made him feel even if he knew little more than your name.
“This is….a lot, Nat. I have a wife. A wife and a whole life I don’t remember.” It was the first time he had said it out loud. His voice cracked, and his eyes stung, but he knew she would never use it against him. “This is crazy.”
Her face was sympathetic now and she reached back out to hold his hand again. “You’ll get through it, Bradley. I know you will. We’ll all help you. Especially her.” She said it with such certainty that he almost believed her.
“Can you tell me about her?” he asked her tentatively, and Nat shrugged in response.
“It’s not my place to tell you your entire love story with her,” she said. Bradley couldn’t hide his disappointment.
“What I will tell you though,” she continued, and he perked up just the slightest bit, “is that you two are ridiculously happy. And you love one another more than I’ve seen two people be capable of loving one another, and my parents have been married for like 40 years. You, her, and Florence are the perfect little family and we all make fun of you for it on a regular basis but it’s just because we’re jealous.”
Her words made him feel better, but then he replayed them in his head and felt panic course through his body. The heart monitor beeped a little faster. “Florence? Who is Florence? Nat, do I have a kid?”
By the way she bursted out laughing, he assumed that no, he did not, or her sense of humor has seriously changed in the last four years that she would find his panic at the thought funny if it were true.
“No,” she snorted, “not as far as I’m aware. Florence is your cat. You call her Florry, most of the time.”
His sigh of relief was so deep that it hurt his still very broken ribs, but it was worth it. Waking up to a wife he didn’t remember was one thing. He didn’t know if he could handle forgetting a child on top of that. Hell, he could barely handle all of this as it was.
“I don’t remember her,” he started, and despite him stating the obvious, Nat was quiet as he worked out his thoughts. “But I feel like I know her. That’s…that’s crazy, right?”
“I don’t think so,” she shrugged, “You do know her. Better than anyone. Your mind may not remember her, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t.”
Bradley considered her words for a moment, feeling like he got punched right in his broken ribs.
“Yeah,” he croaked, “I feel like I do.”
Phoenix smiled at him sadly, giving him a moment to breathe before she started talking again. She spoke about the last four years of his career. He was stationed in D.C. when he was sent on a six week deployment to Belgium, only to be pulled out of that halfway through for a special mission out of Top Gun. It led to all of those that were called back to form a new unit with this as their homebase.
“The Dagger Squad?” he questioned with a snort. Natascha hit him gently in his arm, but he winced anyway just to mess with her as they’ve always done. “Ow.”
“Jokes on you, asshole. You were the first one to say it and it stuck.”
He groaned. “Of course I was.”
She talks him through how he was promoted in 2020, nearly a year after being stationed here. Lieutenant Commander Bradley Bradshaw, she had teased. She had since been promoted as well, but he got it before the rest of them. He felt a certain level of satisfaction in that. They had done additional missions together, deploying for mostly short stints when necessary, and had taught a few Top Gun classes of their own.
Their crew was close, like family. Some of them had been in the air with him when he went down days prior, while the others remained in the tower. They all searched for him and made sure he was found, unwilling and unable to leave him behind.
They had been here everyday since his accident, rotating out in shifts so that you were never alone, staying until the nurses kicked them out at the end of the night. Bob, one of the ones in the photo that Bradley didn’t recognize, had been down in the cafeteria getting you both food when he had woken up the previous morning. It warmed him, knowing you had people here for you when he had been unconscious. That there was someone making sure you ate and drank water and slept. It was important to him that you weren’t alone.
Coyote and Hangman had been the ones to drive you home this evening. You had agreed only if Phoenix stayed in case he woke up, so that he wasn’t alone.
“She thought you would appreciate seeing a face you recognized,” she explained, and the thought that you were that considerate nearly took his breath away. He did appreciate it, more than he thought. The two of them talked for a long time, but Bradley felt himself missing you. There was an ache in his chest that was getting harder to ignore. He found himself looking toward the door and at the clock near the window. The sun had gone down hours ago. When the nurse came in a little while ago to check on him, she had warned Nat that visiting hours were almost over.
“Everything alright?” Nat asked him, noticing how his gaze was wandering and he was taking longer pauses between responding to her. “Pain okay?”
There was an ever present ache in his head and his ribs hurt, but it wasn’t anything he couldn’t handle. It wasn’t what he was focused on right now.
You were upset when you had left the room earlier. He still wanted to know who you were talking to and what the doctor had said to you and to just know you. He was starting to get anxious that you weren’t coming back.
He didn’t like the thought. Your presence soothed something. Anytime you were in the room with him, he felt a little less outside of his own skin. You had said the day before that there was nowhere else you would be than beside him, so he had to believe you wouldn’t leave him alone tonight.
“Fine,” he muttered, deciding to keep the thoughts to himself, too embarrassed to ask after where you were and when you were coming back. He suspected that Nat saw right through him, but gracefully, she moved on. Even when another thirty minutes had passed and the nurse came in again, informing the two of them that visiting hours were over and she was hugging him goodbye as gently as she could, he didn’t say anything.
When the door closed behind her, he realized it was the first time he had been alone since he woke up in this bed the morning before. Being on his own had never bothered him before. He had always preferred solitude over anything else, yet this felt strangely empty. Lonely, even. Your face was there at the forefront of his mind. He found himself wondering what you were doing right now. If you had ended up taking that nap at home and if you were okay. His heart ached remembering the broken look in your eyes yesterday when he didn’t know who you were and how distraught you looked with the doctors and nurses earlier.
He wished he would have had the thought to ask Phoenix for your phone number. He had no idea where his own cell phone was, but the old corded phone in the hospital room could certainly dial out if he needed to reach you.
He wondered if this same sense of longing had happened so quickly the first time around, too.
He wasn’t sure how much time passed as he thought about you, but his ears picked up on hurried footsteps making their way to his door. They barely paused before it was thrown open, but grabbed before it could hit off the wall.
The tightness in his chest eased when he saw you. You paused in the doorway when you saw he was awake and looking at you.
You looked more frazzled than he had ever seen you, not that that was a lot, but it still unsettled him.
“Are you-”
“I’m so sorry,” you blurted, making your way into the room after you gently closed the door, almost as to make up for your brash opening of it. The notion almost made him smile. “I went home to take a shower so you could talk to Nat and I ended up falling asleep. I didn’t mean to be gone for this long.”
“It’s alright,” he assured you, but the frazzled look didn’t go away. Seeing it made him forget all about how distraught he almost was that you weren’t here. “Try and convince me differently all you want, but I bet an actual bed was a lot better than this chair. I’m glad you got some sleep.”
You gave him a small smile and it made him feel something akin to pride to be the cause of it.
The smile slipped after a moment. You twisted your ring on your finger, your eyes cautious. You looked small, and he didn’t like that. You cleared your throat before speaking.
“Your doctor, he uh, he told me I should give you some space. That I might be overwhelming for you? But I didn’t want you to be alone. That’s why I had Nat come, but non-family members can’t stay overnight so…”
A flash of anger hit them then. He had known when you walked back into his hospital room when the doctor had requested your presence outside that he had said something to you. He should have known after he had made the comment about you leaving the room during his consultation that it was something to do with that.
“He didn’t have a right to say that to you.”
“Bradley-“
“Just because I don’t remember you doesn’t mean you don’t exist,” he said, his voice firm, and he heard the breath you sucked in.
His tone softened with his next words, “And even if I don’t understand it, I want you here. I mean…as long as you still want to be?”
It didn’t occur to him, before, that maybe this was too much for you. He was your husband who had been in the hospital for a week who woke up not remembering who you were. Maybe you needed some space. But you were nodding your head before he could overthink it too much.
“I do. I told you, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. But I want to do what’s going to be best for you more, okay? I know you don’t know me enough to trust me right now, but I need you to promise me that if it ever is too overwhelming for me to be here, you tell me, okay?”
That was the thing. He did trust you. It was a feeling deeply rooted in his bones that he could trust you with anything.
“I promise,” he said instead of telling you what he was really feeling. The emotions were too raw, too jumbled, and he hadn’t made sense of them yet.
“Alright,” you nodded. You finally made your way from where you had been standing at the end of his hospital bed over to the chair beside it. A pressure lifted off of him when you sat down.
Yes, he thought, that’s better.
“How was your visit with Phoenix?” you asked, kicking your tennis shoes off and curling your legs up underneath you. You were in another pair of black leggings and another oversized pullover, UPENN displayed across the front of the dark gray material. Your hair was down again, and he decided he liked how the color looked against your skin as you pushed it out of your eyes. You raised your eyebrows at him and he realized he must have been staring.
He cleared his throat, fighting off reddening cheeks. Damn.
“It was good,” he admitted. “She caught me up a lot; told me about being stationed out here and the squad we’re on. She kinda laid out the last four years of my career for me.”
“Congrats on your promotion,” you joked, and Bradley found himself letting out a surprised chuckle at your humor.
“Did she say anything specific? About the mission you were called for that got you stationed here?” you asked. Bradley shook his head.
“She didn’t go into many details. Why?” You let out a long, low breath, and Bradley felt his stomach knot. “Is there something else I should know about it?”
“Yes,” you nodded, “and it may not be easy for you to hear, but..well, it’s important. Kind of a big part of the last three years of your life.”
That could mean a lot of things. He tried to stamp down all the worst case scenarios that played around in his head and watched you fiddle with the phone in your hand. You paused, took a breath, and then handed it over to him. Your fingers brushed against his when you did and the spark it sent through him made him take a second to realize what it is he was looking at. His breath caught in his throat when he did.
Staring back at him was the two of you. You were both smiling, clearly happy, with you tucked into his side like you belonged there. On his other side, he had his arm thrown around the neck of someone he hadn’t seen in years. At least that he could remember. He couldn’t pinpoint what he was feeling. A decades worth of anger and bitterness, he supposed, but the underlying hurt and regret that he always tried to not acknowledge were there too. If he focused hard enough, there was even the smallest flicker of hope.
“I don’t understand,” he muttered, still staring at the picture.
“You asked me earlier who Pete was, when you saw the name on my coffee cup,” you reminded him, “not many people call him that, but I do.”
You went on to tell him an abridged version of what sounded like a mission report. Mav was their mission leader and he was his wingman. He got shot down trying to save him, and Bradley disobeyed direct orders to go find him, where he was then shot down trying to save him. It ended fine. They clearly made it out, with some assistance, and had taken a lot of time to work through things. They had completely rebuilt their relationship in the last three years and by the looks of them in this picture, it was hard not to believe you when you said they were stronger than ever.
“I know how badly he hurt you, and that hearing this might bring up those feelings,” you whispered, your voice sympathetic but not pitying, which was something he appreciated more than he could say, “but the two of you love each other so much. When the time came, you were ready to forgive him. It may be hard to believe, but I wouldn’t lie to you about this. I promise. He’s family. To both of us.”
“He’s been here?” Bradley brought himself to ask, and though he already knew the answer based on the sharpied evidence on a plastic coffee cup, the nod you gave him in response winded him.
“Everyday,” you confirmed.
Bradley nods slowly, processing your words.
“I don’t…know that I’m ready to see him,” he finally said.
“That’s okay,” you assured him immediately, “you don’t have to right now. But I didn’t want to keep it from you, okay? I don’t want to keep anything from you.”
He looked away from the phone he had been staring at to meet your eyes, and he knew that you were being sincere. Your eyes were earnest, your expression open, and he was blown away that anyone so beautiful would look at him like that. He let out a breath that was shakier than he would want to admit before he handed your phone back to you.
“Are you tired?” you asked him, and he shrugged his shoulders. He was, truthfully, but this was the longest conversation the two of you have had; he wasn’t ready for it to end.
“Tell me something else,” he said instead.
“What would you like to know?” you asked, clicking your phone off and setting it on the table near his bed.
“You,” he said instantly, not needing any time to think and not second guessing his honesty, “I want to know you. Us.”
Your smile was shy, and your cheeks bloomed again, drawing your bottom lip between your teeth as you nodded. His heart raced in his chest again. “Alright.”
______
Listening to your voice had quickly become one of his favorite things. The two of you talked for a long time that night, and he grasped onto every detail you gave him.
You were a few years younger than him. You worked in journalism, covering politics and policy, for the most part completely remote from your home here in San Diego. You grew up in Philadelphia (the Eagles sweatshirt was yours) and were the only child of only children. You weren’t overly close with your parents, but you didn’t seem bothered by it, either. You loved spicy food and sour beers, and things always got a little interesting when you indulged in too much white wine. You had adopted Florence, the adorable brown tabby that you proudly showed him pictures of, when you moved to DC all on your own, and Bradley was apparently the only man the cat tolerated.
The two of you hosted board game nights or dinner parties on a regular basis, and it had surprisingly only ended in a physical fight between him and Hangman once in the last three years.
The night nurse came in for her rounds and was surprised to see him still awake, but he refused additional pain medication when she offered it because he wasn’t ready for how they would inevitably put him to sleep.
He wanted to know everything about you.
“Tell me how we met?” He requested.
Your smile was soft, like you liked how the memory made you feel.
“We were both subjected to the ‘single guest with no date’ table at a wedding,” you revealed. Bradley wracked his brain and remembered a save the date he had sloppily stuck to his fridge in his DC apartment. He asked if that was the one you were referencing and your smile grew as you confirmed it.
“We met in Philadelphia?”
“We did,” you laughed, “which is incredibly ironic, considering we were both living in DC at the time.”
It sounded more like fate, but Bradley kept those thoughts to himself for now.
“Did I ask you to dance?” he asked, almost certain of the answer considering where they ended up years later, but to his surprise, you shook your head. His eyes widened. “You’re kidding.”
“I’m not,” you swore with a chuckle.
“I was at the same table with you and I didn’t even ask you to dance?”
You threw your head back with a full laugh, and Bradley was sure if they pulled the data from the monitor he was still hooked up to, it would show that his heart skipped a beat at the sight.
“The rest of the people at the table were admittedly not that nice, and when we realized that we weren’t that bad, we ended up escaping and sitting outside at one of the cocktail hour tables for the majority of the night.”
He wished he could remember what you looked like that night. He wondered what color dress you wore, and if you had your hair up or down, when he was apparently not dancing with you.
“That seems like a crime,” you flushed at the words he mumbled mostly to himself.
It was difficult for him to comprehend that he had someone in his life like you, but it wasn’t hard at all to see how he fell in love with you as quickly as he must have. You were beautiful outwardly, but he was seeing you were even more so inwardly, as well. You were funny and witty and kept him on his toes, and he was sure he hadn’t even scratched the surface of you yet.
The more he learned, the more infatuated he became.
It was nearing two in the morning when your yawning became more frequent amongst your conversation. Watching your face scrunch up every time it happened was adorable, and he wondered if you were as unwilling to go to sleep as he was. The bubble of storytelling you had found yourself in was warm and comforting, but he finally took pity when you started rubbing your eyes under your glasses. The urge to somehow take care of you was brewing inside of him. He wanted to be selfish, but he had kept you up long enough.
“We should get some sleep,” he murmured. Your hair fell in your eyes when you nodded and he found himself wanting to tuck it behind your ear for you.
“Are you in any pain?” you asked. You were worrying for him, despite how tired you obviously were. He had been shown more concern in the last 48 hours than he could remember getting in the last decade; his heart ached at the thought.
“It’s not so bad right now.”
“I can get the nurse.” You were already rising to do so, and before he could stop himself, he reached out to grab your arm. You froze from your position half raised out of the chair. Your wide eyes flickered down to his hand before meeting his again.
Bradley swallowed deeply, but didn’t let go. He couldn’t stop his thumb from gently rubbing your skin through the thick material of your sweatshirt.
“I’m okay,” he whispered, “promise.”
The breath you let out was shaky, but you nodded. Without disconnecting from him, you pulled your chair just the slightest bit closer to his bed with your other hand, but you didn’t move to sit down yet. Instead, you took a step closer and leaned down to press a gentle kiss against his forehead. Your scent invaded his senses and he suddenly felt dizzy again for a completely different reason. You lingered for a moment and he reveled in it.
“Thank you,” he didn’t quite know what he was thanking you for, but he needed to say it. His voice was thick all of a sudden, feeling overwhelmed with the influx of emotions he was feeling.
You just smiled at him, and he released the hold he had on your arm so you could settle back into the chair that had become your temporary residence for the last week.
“Goodnight, Bradley.”

I am absolutely not concerned about the quotes we’ve gotten regarding hurdles and obstacles Buck and Tommy are going to be encountering in their relationship.
And it’s not because I don’t care if they break up - I absolutely do care even if it’s not a dealbreaker issue for me with the show since I’ll still have fandom. I want to see them go the distance because I think they can. I LOVE how happy Buck has been in his relationship.
But that’s just the thing - Lasting relationships aren’t all sunshine and roses. Buck himself said the same in 5x18 when he was talking to Maddie after they had the patient who forgot his pregnant wife along with 6 whole years of his life. They were talking about a movie about a woman with anterograde amnesia.
Buck: “Still sounds like a nightmare. Starting over everyday, always doing the same thing, making the same mistakes, never having a chance to learn or make a different decision. A hamster on a wheel. It was a comedy.”
Maddie: “I think it’s supposed to be romantic. You know, the idea that the guy would work hard everyday making her fall in love with him over and over.”
Buck: “So everyday is the best day ever? Is that really love? Right - Shouldn’t it be when you’re at your worst, they’re at their worst, you have every reason to give up and you still decide you want to try again?”
Maddie: “I guess it is.”
Buck isn’t looking for the honeymoon life. He expects that real lasting love is going to have times when it’s hard and requires overcoming hurdles and obstacles. He knows it’s about knowing sometimes it would be easier to just cut your losses and walk away, but instead choosing to do the work to preserve and come out stronger together on the other side.
Gotta be honest - Talking about hurdles and obstacles has me excited to see where things go. I’m more optimistic than ever.

all that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing
aka the four times you save mike dodds + the one time he saves you
mike dodds x female!reader
word count: 9.3k
a/n: me? keeping mike dodds alive and well in every universe? absolutely. a good old fashioned 4+1 for you folks! this was another labor of love that has been years in the making because I could never string enough good things together - until I did! it's not my best, but it's one of my favorites, and i love writing for this guy! it's a niche character, but one near and dear to my heart. (I refuse to give up my Taylor swift lyric titles so fight me)
****
The first time you saved Mike Dodds, it was from the awful coffee in the squad room.
It was his first week with SVU, and, let’s just say, everyone is adjusting. He stepped over you while getting the victim’s disclosure, he pursued a lead not pertaining to the disclosure without telling Liv, and to top it all off, Rollins’ sister was behind the whole situation.
So, it’s been a tense week for everyone.
After Kim was remanded to Rikers, and Amanda was released from the hospital, everyone could let out a sigh of relief.
You were wrapping up some paperwork in the squad room after getting back from the courthouse, Liv talking with the chief in her office. You could only assume the accolades he was giving his son, while Liv just had to sit there and bite her tongue. You don’t envy the position she’s in right now.
To keep your eyes open a little longer, you made your way to the breakroom to grab a soda. Much to your surprise, you found the sarge at the coffee machine, ready to pour a heaping cup of old coffee.
“I wouldn’t drink that if I were you,” You warned him as you fed a dollar to the vending machine, pressing for a coke to come out. “I guarantee it’s been sitting there since this morning, maybe even last night.”
He nodded, placing the styrofoam cup back on the table. “Thanks for warning me. I’m pretty sure everyone else would’ve let me suffer the consequences.”
“Rollins and Fin would’ve watched the whole thing, but Carisi would’ve ran in to save you. We’re not too fond of perpetuating the newbie pranks, especially on a sergeant.”
You offered him the coke once it came out of the machine, and he took it, giving you a nod of gratitude. He didn’t open it right away, taking a few seconds to fiddle with the tab.
He looked up at you, looking quite defeated for the confident man that walked in here three days ago. “I’m not trying to step on any toes here, detective.”
“Dodds,” You started, but he cut you off.
Again.
“I’m the new guy, the new second in command here, and I understand that it’s going to take some time for you guys to warm up to me,”
“Dodds.” You held your arm out in front of you, hoping he would stop talking. “First things first, stop interrupting me.”
He had a sheepish grin, and hung his head.
“SVU isn’t like the rest of the department. It’s not as simple as getting the statement, arresting the perp, and going to trial. We have to connect with the victim, make sure they feel safe and supported enough to tell their story. And most importantly, we listen to Liv. She gives a masterclass everyday in being an SVU cop.” You paused for a second, taking another look at him. Of course he looked defeated, the welcome into special victims is never an easy one. “Listen, we’ve all been in your shoes. There’s a learning curve, and it takes a minute to get there, but you will. You’ve got good instincts, you’ve got the rank to prove it. You’ve just got to think in another way now.”
You saw the chief exit Liv’s office, and heard the dejected sigh leave Dodds’ mouth.
“I’m not worried about the learning curve. I know I have a lot to learn. What I’m worried about is not being taken seriously.” You looked over at him, and saw that he was locked on his father’s figure, following him out of the precinct. “I know everyone’s worried that I’m the boss’s son, thinking they have to watch themselves around me. But I’m not his puppet, and I’m not here to report back to him. What happens at SVU, stays at SVU.”
“I appreciate that.” He gave you a pointed look, not sure whether or not to believe you, but you only smiled. “Listen, we’re all straight shooters here. I’m not worried about who your father is or how you got this position. Everyone deserves a fair chance, and after these last few days with you, I think you’ll be just fine here.”
Honestly, you were never worried about his placement here. Sure, the rest of the squad was a little suspicious, and maybe gave him a hard time, but he’ll learn his place. And hopefully, they’ll see this guy, honest and vulnerable, instead of the shadow of his father the next time they look at him.
“Thank you. I know you could’ve chewed my head off after that disclosure, so I appreciate your patience.”
You laughed while moving back to the vending machine, getting a coke for yourself this time.
“It was your one free pass.”
“Technically two, since you saved me from the burnt coffee.” He added, walking back to the bullpen.
“Yeah, next time I’ll let you drink it.”
****
The second time you saved Mike Dodds was after the Lily Evans case.
It was never easy losing a kid, no matter how many years you have on the job. After three months with the unit, he felt like he hit his stride.
All until today.
It was late when Dodds and Liv came back from the Evans house, looking particularly jaded after informing the grieving parents they closed the case.
It was business as usual for the next thirty minutes, paperwork was finished, a celebratory job well done for solving something in a timely manner. And just like that, we move onto the next one.
Once Liv emerged from her office, the rest of the squad started to pack up.
“You going to see Amanda?” Fin asked.
“Yeah, I thought I’d stop by.”
“You know what, she’s been living off takeout. How about we all go up there, and I’ll cook us a real meal.” Carisi interrupted the Lieutenant, Fin in agreement to eat some real Italian food.
The smile on your face was automatic, loving the small moments in your day where there was a little room for happiness.
“Hey Sergeant, you wanna join us?” You all looked to Dodds, slouched in his chair, the weight of the world resting on his shoulders.
You’ve all been there before.
“Uh, rain check. Paperwork.” He sat up straighter in his chair, pulling a random file from his desk.
You exchanged a look with Carisi before setting your things back on your desk.
“I’ll meet you guys up there. And don’t let Fin eat all the garlic bread,” you teased, trying to keep the happy moment alive.
Once the rest of the squad left, you walked back over to Dodds desk. He continued to comb through the files on his desk, pretending to look busy.
“I know being a Sergeant is a big deal, but there’s no way you’ve accumulated this much paperwork since you’ve been here.”
“Well with all the joy rides you and Carisi go on, you’d be surprised how quickly those car change requests pile up.”
He said with a smile, and you resisted the urge to roll your eyes.
“As appealing as that pile of paperwork may be, it’s got nothing on a home cooked Carisi meal. So,” you paused, giving him the opportunity to speak first if he wanted.
He didn’t.
“Why are you beating yourself up over this case?”
“Lily Evans could still have been alive when we first got to her parents house. If I had taken this seriously, we could’ve got to her and maybe she’d be alive right now.”
“Sarge,”
“And I know I should have listened to Liv, she’s got this down to a science. But I just wanted to-“
“Dodds, what did I say about interrupting me?” You chided, and he held his hands out to you in surrender. “I know you don’t want to hear it, but she was gone the moment she got in the van. It’s not easy to accept that at first, but some of these cases, you have to believe it if you want to get through it.”
“I thought it was going to be an easy transition to SVU. Major Crimes was high stress, kidnappings, negotiations, terrorism, all while having the eyes of the media and the city on you.” He shook his head. “I thought I was doing okay. I was listening to the Lieutenant, I was really learning from her, from all of you really. I thought I was bringing something to the table. But Lily, she was just a kid.”
You placed your bag down on the floor, moving to sit in the chair next to his desk.
“My second case with SVU was the Johnny D take down. I transferred from Brooklyn Homicide, so I thought I’d seen it all. Until I walked into that basement, and found four teenagers and kids locked in that basement as sex slaves. I threw up as soon as we got out of the basement, just barely missed Rollins. I couldn’t sleep for the next week, and when I finally cracked, Liv was there to center me. She reminded me why we did this job, of all the people we help, despite the most gruesome cases we catch. It takes a special cop to work in SVU, and you don’t stick it out, you don’t feel this guilt if you’re not cut out for it.”
He looked at you for a few seconds, not saying anything as he took your words in.
“How do you get up and come back to work every day?” He asked and let out a long breath.
“I took Liv’s advice: go home, talk to someone you love, and don’t make this job your whole life. Easier said than done.” You said with a laugh and he joined in. “But you’ve got your dad, he’s been on the job your whole life. He knows what it’s like.”
“He’s not really the talking type. And I’ve never… failed at something before. He expects a lot out of me here, and I want to prove to him that I’m cut out for this.”
“You’re not failing here, Dodds. Trust me, you’d be hearing an earful from Rollins and Fin if you were. I’m actually really impressed with how you’ve adjusted. We’re not an easy squad to assimilate to.”
“You can call me Mike,” he started, a small smile on his face.
You felt your cheeks get warm, and you hoped to god they weren’t bright red.
“Okay, Mike. Then pack up your stuff, cause you’re going to eat the best Chinese food of your life tonight.”
“What about Carisi’s fantastic meal?” He joked as he closed whatever files were open and shrugged his coat on.
“He’ll understand. Now come on, we don’t want them to run out of egg rolls before we get there.”
“Alright, alright,” he joked, running to catch up to you. You waited in silence for the elevator, and you felt a shift in the dynamic between you two. A good shift, one that happens when you finally earn the trust of your partner.
Mike spoke your name as you stepped into the elevator, and you looked over at him.
“Thank you for listening. It means a lot, to know that you have my back, in the field and otherwise.”
You smiled, gently clapping his shoulder as you responded, “Anytime you need an ear, I’m there. You’ve got a squad of incredible listeners surrounding you now. All we ask is the same in return.”
“You’ve got it.” He added without hesitation.
Mike Dodds was going to be just fine here in SVU.
****
The next time you saved Mike Dodds wasn’t exactly your finest moment.
Mike accompanied you to Gary Munson’s house on what was supposed to be a quiet Sunday afternoon. But after a call from his wife Lisa, saying she was finally ready to leave, your Sergeant graciously offered to accompany you to the house.
No one wanted to be back in the presence of Gary Munson, the rogue corrections officer accused of assaulting dozens of female inmates. The case hadn’t even gone to trial yet and it was already causing a lot of tension in the department, not to mention the DA’s office.
“Dragging me out on a Sunday is pretty cruel, even for you Detective.” Mike commented as you walked up to the Munson house. “I smell egg rolls and fried rice in the near future.”
“Hey, I paid last time. It’s not my fault you have a bleeding heart almost as big as mine and agreed to come along.” You said with a grin as you knocked on the front door.
Dodds had been at SVU just shy of a year now, and since the Lily Evan’s case it sort of became tradition to celebrate the closing of a case with that same greasy Chinese food. Even as the cases took longer to close, the two of you could be found there at least twice a week. It became your place, somewhere to meet when it was two a.m. and a case was keeping one of you awake; on a Saturday afternoon when the two of you had nothing better to do with the time off work; and of course, as a reward for helping each other out whenever they asked.
You waited for a minute before knocking on the door again as Mike walked around to the side yard.
“She calls and says she’s ready to leave, and when we get here there’s no answer?”
“What was her exit plan?” Mike asked, joining you back on the steps.
Before you could answer, Lisa opened the front door.
“Hi,” she began, “sorry for keeping you guys waiting.”
“Is everything okay?” You asked, attempting to take one foot in the door when Gary stepped out into view.
“Everything’s fine here.” He answered for his wife, her body stiffening at his voice.
“Mr. Munson, we're here at your wife’s request.”
“I… overreacted when I called you guys. We’re handling things.”
“That’s good to hear. So, you don’t mind if we come in?” Mike asked, trying to get some control of the situation.
“Do I need to call my lawyer?”
“We’re not here to talk about the case.”
“Oh right, you’re here because Lisa wants to leave me. Forgive me, I’m just a big, dumb CO.” Gary commented as you shared a look with Dodds.
He was already spiraling.
“Mr. Munson, we don”t want any trouble.”
“Great,” he replied, opening the door further for you to enter. “Neither do I.”
Lisa let out a deep breath as you entered the house behind her. You watched as Gary talked to their kids, trying to convince them everything was normal, but they were too smart for it.
“Why don’t I go upstairs with her and start to pack.” Lisa suggested as she moved towards the stairs, motioning you to follow.
“No.” He commanded back, causing you both to freeze. “She can stay down here with the kids. You go up.”
This was going to be the power struggle of all power struggles. You walked over to sit with the kids as Mike and Gary went into the kitchen. You exchanged another look with him, and he gave you a small nod. It was okay.
The kids slipped their headphones on as you tried to listen in on the conversation in the kitchen, but you couldn’t hear much. You took out your phone to text Liv, a gut feeling telling you this wasn’t going to end easy or as you planned.
You waited for a few more minutes as Lisa packed a bag for her and the kids before coming back down the stairs.
“Alright, Tommy, Annie, backpacks.” She handed her children their bags as they hugged their dad goodbye.
“Ok kids, let’s go,” you started, trying to shuffle them and Lisa out the door.
“Wait, I don’t get a goodbye hug from Mommy?” Gary asked, now cornering Lisa on the stairs. “Isn’t that the jacket I bought you for your birthday?”
“Okay, we’re going to go now,” you ushered the kids onto the stoop, still keeping one foot in the house as you saw Lisa throw her jacket on the floor.
In one motion, he grabbed Lisa off the stairs, pulled a gun from his waistband, and slammed the front door in your face, kicking you onto the step.
“Gary! Open the door!” You yelled out as you got to your feet, banging on the door. “Right now Gary! Open the door!”
After thirty more seconds of incessant knocking with no response, you turned to find the kids huddled together on the sidewalk.
“Ok guys, it’s okay. My sergeant is just going to talk to your parents for a couple more minutes. While we wait, can you go into your nice neighbors house until I come get you?” You noticed the older woman two houses down standing on the stoop, a young girl and a dog with her.
You walked the kids over quickly while calling this in over the radio. You checked your phone to see Liv had answered your earlier text, and that she was already on her way for backup. She should have just come along in the first place.
Instead of going back up the front steps, you ducked under the bay window to try and get a look inside the house. You could see Munson holding Lisa in a headlock, his gun pointed at Mike as he handed over his own guns.
“Shit,” you breathed out, knowing this was going to end with a gunshot from someone.
You backed away from the window and called Mike, hoping to god that you could try and talk Munson out of this before any patrols showed up.
“Detective, you’re on speaker.” Mike said when he answered, the sigh you let out when you heard his voice was a little too loud.
“Dodds, what’s going on in there? The kids are asking for their mom.”
“Tell them she’s not going anywhere.” Gary piped in, his voice beginning to shake.
“I’ve told Gary that we can talk this through, get him what he wants, what he needs.”
“That’s right, I’m here, listening to you, my Sergeant is listening. Do you want me to call a family member, or your union rep?”
“No, I’m done talking. I want you to get my kids somewhere safe, that is all I need. Now, hang up the phone.”
“Mr. Munson-“ the line went dead before you could finish.
“Dammit,” you ran your hands through your hair, trying to think of a way to slow this down. You ran to the back door, then to the storm door, both locked. He had planned this from the moment he came home. This is always how this was going to end.
Back at the front of the house, you saw Liv pulling up and you ran to meet her.
“What’s going on? I got the radio on the way over.”
“Munson’s holding Dodds and Lisa in the house, he’s armed.”
“You didn’t search him?” She asked, and you tried not to take the agitation in her tone personally.
“Lisa told us there were no weapons in the house, we confiscated his piece already. I was getting the kids in the car when all of this went down.”
“Okay. Is anyone hurt?”
“I spoke to Dodds five minutes ago, and they both seemed fine for now. But he doesn’t want to talk anymore.”
You heard the distant sirens, and you could only imagine the escalation Gary was making inside the house.
“Is there another way in?” Liv asked as the first of the patrol cars made their way down the street.
“Back door and storm door are both locked, I haven’t checked for anything else.”
“Okay, I’ll be right back.”
She ran over to the first patrol car, getting ready to set a perimeter around the street and then the house as the rest of ESU began to roll onto the street. Liv kicked it into gear, ordering everyone around and trying to come up with the best plan of action.
It wasn’t until Finn got out of his car that you ran into action to. You began to debrief the hostage negotiators on your last phone call, and to describe Gary’s demeanor through the entire duration of this visit. You stressed to them that he was no longer in the talking mood, but they were still going to try.
“ESU is going to try to plan a route in. You know the layout, what’s the best way in.”
“Fastest and clearest is through the back door. But, Lieutenant, give me two more minutes to find another way in. If I can get in there, one female cop is better than twelve SWAT guys taking him down.” You asked, trying to prove yourself in an attempt to earn her forgiveness quicker.
She thought about it for a moment before slowly nodding her head.
“You have a minute to sweep the perimeter again for a secondary entrance. Go.”
You wasted no time in running back through the driveway, past the back door and into the backyard. All the shades were drawn except for one cracked piece, giving you a clear shot to the living room. Munson had a tighter grip on Lisa, his gun still pointed at Mike.
You had to get in there.
The back windows were locked as well as the doors, but you weren’t going to give up. On the side of the house, you noticed the top window opened the slightest bit, and prepared to go in.
You pulled a lawn chair over to give yourself a boost, and took a deep breath in. The window opened quietly at first, and you could begin to hear Munson’s voice again. Slowly but surely you got the window open in silence, and you swung one leg in to the kitchen.
You froze for a second, stuck without a view of what was going on in the living room, praying no one could hear you. After a few seconds, you swung your other leg in, quickly getting to your feet and grabbing your gun.
“… maybe your lawyer will plea out, 9 out of 10 corrections officers cases don’t make it to trial.” Mike was still trying to talk him out of it, even with a gun to his face.
You peaked around the corner quickly, making sure no one had moved since you looked through the window.
“Munson, drop the gun!” You yelled out as you entered the room, catching him off guard enough for Mike to make a move.
Lisa slipped out of Gary’s grip and ran over to you as Mike struggled for Munson’s gun.
“Put it down, Munson!” You yelled out again, but before you could move closer, a shot went off and Mike went down.
Gary froze, putting his arms up as you ran into action. You kicked the gun away from him as SWAT barged in, all guns pointed to Munson.
“Take him.” You yelled out to them as you turned to Mike, finally able to give him your full attention. You knelt down next to him on the floor, watching as he applied pressure to his shoulder. “Hey, can I take a look?”
He nodded, breathing heavily through his nose. You pulled his hand away as blood continued to pour out, but it was a through and through, thank god.
“It’s a clean shot, Mike.” You said as you placed his hand back over the wound, covering your hand with his to apply more pressure. “Hey, stay with me. The medics are on their way in.”
“You shouldn’t have done that.” He got out with a grimace as Liv led the medics into the house.
“I wasn’t just going to leave you in here.”
You moved out of the medics way, your hands covered in Mike’s blood as they treated him.
“He’s right. What the hell were you thinking climbing in through the window without any view?” Liv asked, slightly less agitated than earlier.
“I was thinking I’m the one who left him in here.” Her eyes softened the slightest, the way they always do when she cares for someone. “And I think you would have done the same thing.”
“Careful,” she replied, a small smile crossing her face. “You don’t want to end up like me.”
“There are worse people to be.”
They finished wrapping Mike up, and you two followed him out to the ambulance.
“Detective,” one of the medics called out to you as they loaded him in. “He’s asking if you can ride along.”
You looked to Liv for approval who gave you a nod.
“Keep us updated.” She added as you hopped in the back of the bus, sending her a thumbs up before they shut the door.
Mike fell asleep almost as soon as he got in the ambulance, but the medic assured you he was stable. He had lost a good amount of blood, but given the position of the shot, they were confident he would be okay.
The surgery was quick, and the doctor said it was a routine procedure. He’s been sleeping and recovering in the ICU for a couple hours, and the rest of the squad would be on their way over once he was awake.
“Detective, he’s awake.” A nurse came out to find you, escorting you to Mike’s room.
He was sitting up straight, arm bandaged from shoulder to elbow, but he looked completely unfazed.
“I come out of a workout class looking worse than you do right now. How is that fair?” You said as you walked into his room.
“Well, I regularly go to the gym, so that helps.” You rolled your eyes, resisting the urge to smack him on his bad shoulder.
“Ok, hotshot, we get it.” You let out a breath, taking in his hospital state again. “How are you feeling?”
“Like I got shot. I know it was a through and through, but God, it hurt pretty bad.” He said with a laugh, only to grab at his shoulder, moving too fast for his new injury.
You thought about what he said earlier, how you shouldn’t have gone in the house on your own. Maybe he and Liv were right. If you hadn’t gone in, without telling anyone, without any backup, he may not have been shot. It could’ve ended peacefully, without any harm to anyone.
“What you said earlier, you were right. I don’t know what I was thinking going in by myself. I put you and Lisa in danger, I got you shot. If you didn’t get the jump on him he could have hurt you two even worse-“
“Stop.” Mike interrupted you, placing his hand on your forearm, gesturing for you to sit down on the side of the hospital bed. “I didn’t say that because I was mad at you. I don’t blame you for me getting shot. You shouldn’t have come in because it could have been you in this hospital bed, with a gunshot wound much worse than mine. And I wouldn’t be able to have that on my conscience, you getting yourself shot for me.”
You didn’t say anything for a few seconds, instead you just sat there, looking at the man that you most definitely would have taken a bullet for. And you’re pretty sure he would do the same for you; how terrifying to know someone cared for you like that.
“I’m really glad you’re okay. I don’t know what I would’ve done…” you trailed off, not wanting to think about what could have happened.
“You shouldn’t have come in, but if you hadn’t, I don’t know if I would be sitting here, relatively unscathed.” he reached over, grabbing your hand in his. “Thank you for that.”
You squeezed his hand in recognition as your eyes began to water, not knowing what to say next.
“Are you sure you want to stay with us in SVU? You get shot twice in one year, that would have most people running away.”
“And let you drink the squad room out of coke on your own? Not a chance.” He replied.
“Good. Joint Terrorism would be too boring for you anyway.” You said with a smile.
“In all seriousness, I feel like I can make the biggest difference here. There’s time to move up the ranks later. Right now, I want to be at SVU, with you by my side.” He admitted, as his hand held onto yours tight.
There was a shift in the air, a conversation the two of you had been avoiding for a few months. It wasn’t the time now, and it may not be for a while, but now it’s out there. And neither of you are going anywhere.
A knock on the door pulled you out of your bubble, dropping Mike’s hand as the rest of the squad came into the room. They greeted Mike, lightly ribbing him about having nine lives.
A hand fell on your shoulder, and you looked up to find Liv behind you. She had a knowing smile on her face, but you knew she’d never ask. At least, not yet.
Instead, you focused on your family in the room, and how grateful you were for everyone to be here, safe and sound.
****
The fourth time you saved Mike Dodds happened off duty.
You agreed to be his date to an NYPD fundraising gala that his father was dragging him too. Mike warned you that they were a long night of politics and fake smiles, but you’d be lying if you said you weren’t a little curious to see how the brass lived.
Unfortunately, Mike hit the nail on the head with the political atmosphere. You’d been at the gala barely an hour and you’d already spoken to two people running for district attorney. If you weren’t listening to someone’s campaign pitch, then you were hearing from the brass how much trouble the SVU squad caused the department, despite the “good work” we all do.
“I hate to say I told you so, but, I told you so.” Mike said while handing you a glass of wine.
“How many of these has your dad dragged you to?” You asked as he took a sip of his beer.
“Too many. And now that I’ve ruined his dreams by staying at SVU, he’s going to continue to drag me to them as punishment.”
“Well, if the drinks and the food continue to be free, I’ll come to as many of these as you need me too.” You offered.
“First I’m paying for Chinese food, now I’m paying for galas, you’re an expensive date.” Mike joked as you shoved his completely healed shoulder. He hasn’t let you pay for dinners since he got shot.
“That’s the price you pay for greatness.” You said with a smile, making him laugh. “Is he really still pissed at you for not going to JTTF?”
“The Five-Year Plan has been officially ruined, I’ve been told. I must have really pissed him off if he’s calling Matt and begging him to come home.”
“Your brother?” You asked.
The little brother that Mike had spent his whole life looking out for. He was responsible for him since he was a kid, and every one of Matt’s failures was considered one of Mike’s in his fathers eyes. The last time Mike talked to him was last year, after he picked him up from rehab. He was catching a plane to Mexico City with no plans of coming back.
“He called me last week, asked to help get dad off his back. I guess I’m the new disappointment in the family.”
“Hey, if your dad wants to go play savior with your brother, let him. But don’t let him and his agenda get in your head. He’s no better than these political puppets surrounding us.”
“Speak of the devil,” Mike muttered under his breath, nodding his head behind you.
You turned to find his father, Chief William Dodds, approaching the two of you.
“Hi son,” he greeted Mike with a firm handshake, then turning his attention to you. “Detective. It’s nice to see you.”
“You as well, Chief.” You shook his hand next, resisting the urge to squeeze too hard.
“Don’t you two clean up nice. Most cops that come to these things have no idea how to dress, they’ve spent too much time in the ranks to know what life is like outside of it.” Chief Dodds commented, and you gave a polite nod of your head.
If you didn’t care so much about Mike, or your career, you would’ve chewed his head off right here, right now.
“Well, we don’t have time for all the show business like you guys do, we’re busy keeping the city safe.” Mike added.
“My son, he gets so defensive, takes every comment personally.” His father said and turned towards you. “Mike didn’t tell me you were coming tonight, or else I’m sure he would have asked me to be on my best behavior.”
“Dad,” Mike tried interrupting him, but it was no use.
“But I never thanked you, for acting quickly at the Munson call. If it weren’t for your quick thinking, Mike could have been hurt a lot worse.” You took the compliment from the Chief, but waited for the other shoe to drop; you knew when you were being set up. “Although if you didn’t leave him in there alone with an armed perp in the first place, we could have avoided all of this. Nevertheless, it was handled, and I’m sure you acted just as your Lieutenant trained you to.”
It was no secret that Chief Dodds was not Liv’s biggest fan. He undermined her every chance he could, and he never tried to understand how SVU was different from every other department. Mike being placed as the Sergeant was his way of getting an inside scoop, but boy did that backfire on him.
And once you piss off Olivia Benson, you piss off her whole squad.
“Our Lieutenant is the best commanding officer I’ve had in my time at the department. Ask anyone that has served with her in SVU and they will tell you the same thing. It’s a shame that you didn’t get the opportunity to learn some things yourself. A lot of people hold her in high regard, so I’d be careful what you say about her around here.”
“And if I were you, I’d watch my tone around your District Chief, Detective. Especially with your Sergeant standing in ear shot. It’s clear to me that SVU has no respect for the chain of command, and it would be a shame for you to learn this the hard way. Mike has already had to deal with the repercussions of being tied to SVU.” Chief Dodds threatened, and you actually had the audacity to scoff at him.
Mike began defending you, but you stopped him, holding your hand out in front of him.
“I don’t scare easily, Chief, and it's going to take a lot more than threatening my reputation to get me to turn my back on Lieutenant Benson and Special Victims. As for your son,” you looked back at Mike, his eyes steady on you the entire time. “Sergeant Dodds has been an incredible asset to our squad, so much so that our Lieutenant wanted him to stay in permanently, which I know is a sore spot for your ego. So you can continue to take shots at me, and my character, because you don’t really know me. But I’ll be damned if you think I’m going to stand here and listen to you drag Mike’s name, and his stellar reputation through the mud because he decided to make his own path. One that doesn’t involve all these fancy parties and pictures that you so thoroughly enjoy.”
Chief Dodds was stunned into silence, running a frustrated hand through his hair. He looked at Mike who also had a stunned expression on his face, but a smile was starting to show through.
“Excuse me.” The Chief removed himself from the situation, moving on to the next party goer with a smile on his face.
Once he was out of ear shot, your shoulders deflated and you turned around to apologize to Mike.
“I am so-“
“Do you want to dance?” He interrupted you, his smile now fully covering his face.
It took a few seconds for you to actually hear what he said, and when you did, you couldn’t help but laugh. Clearly, he wasn’t mad about you going off on his father.
“I’d love to.”
Mike took your hand and led you to the small dance floor, weaving in and out of older couples dancing the night away to the orchestra. You quickly took in your limited audience, including two Sergeants from your precinct, and the deputy commissioner of communications. He wrapped his arm around your waist drawing your attention back to him.
“You alright?” He asked as you curled your hand around his shoulder.
“Just a lot of people here, watching,” you said as Mike began to laugh.
“You just chewed my dads head off, a district chief, in front of these people, and now you’re scared of them seeing you dance with two left feet?”
“I don’t have two left feet.” You replied, squeezing his shoulder in jest. “I just don’t want people talking about me, that’s all.”
“Cmon, they’ve got better things to talk about than me and you.”
“If they heard anything I said I’m sure they’ll be talking about the crazy SVU detective for ages.”
“Hey,” he squeezed your waist, drawing your attention back to him. “No one has ever stood up to my dad like that, not for me.”
“Well someone should have. I know he’s your dad and you love him, but that doesn’t give him the right to control your life or talk down on you.”
He shook his head as you continued swaying together, slowing down a bit to match the tempo of the music.
“It means a lot for you to do that. And if I wasn’t so impressed with your outburst, I would’ve done the same for you. I should have.”
“I’m not worth getting into a fight with your Dad, Mike. Like he implied, I’ve got no real future outside of SVU, not that I’m really looking.”
“You’re worth it to me.” Mike said, eyes locked on your own. “If it weren’t for you I wouldn’t have made it a week in the squad. You’ve changed my perspective on a lot, both on the job and off.”
You smiled, lightly ducking your head as you felt the blush creep onto your cheeks.
“Well you’re not so bad yourself, Dodds. You’ve taught me a lot too, maybe too much. One day I’m coming for that Sergeant’s shield of yours.” You joked, and he threw his head back in laughter.
It was so nice to see him like this. It was rare to get a moment of pure happiness on the job, and you weren’t sure how honest you wanted to be about changing your relationship outside the precinct.
“As soon as you pass the Sergeants exam, you can have it. You’d be better at this job than me any day.”
You moved a step closer to Mike as more people stepped onto the dance floor. You’d never seen this many cops dancing in your life.
“I meant to tell you earlier, but, you look beautiful tonight.” Mike said, trying not to be obvious in looking you up and down.
You were blushing now for sure.
“Would you take it back if I told you I had to borrow this dress from Liv?” You had panicked last night, not knowing what to wear to a gala, and not wanting to embarrass Mike.
“Not a chance, extra points for trying so hard.” You laughed as he put some space between you.
“Mike, I know you’re a show off, but you better not be doing what I think you’re doing.” You warned, but it was too late as he lifted up your arm, gently spinning you underneath him. He smoothly pulled you back into him as a few people cheered for you. “Do you have to be good at everything?”
“Unfortunately, I do.” You hid your smile in his shoulder, not missing the way his hand slid comfortingly over your waist and lower back.
And unfortunately, you fear you could get used to this feeling.
****
The first time you were saved by Mike Dodds was in the middle of a bar fight.
This wasn’t your finest moment, yet you rarely seemed to be on your best behavior around Dodds.
The two of you were undercover in a joint operation with Vice. The bar had been home to an underground gambling ring for years, and a few weeks ago you got credible intel that they may be branching out into sex trafficking.
Three other Vice detectives were in the bar with you as their Captain and the rest of their squad surveilled from an unmarked van outside.
“You want a refill?” Mike asked as you finished your second club soda, trying to hide the sour look on your face from all the bubbles.
“And pretend I’m not choking on this awful carbonation instead of a smooth vodka? No, I’ll pass.”
He got the bartender’s attention and ordered himself another alcohol free beer and a Diet Coke for you.
“Thanks.” You tipped your glass to his and took a refreshing sip before conducting another once over around the space.
“Simmons is still situated by the door, Ruiz and Lawrence have been under for an hour now.” Mike stated into his earpiece, updating the team outside.
There was no timetable on this, and as far as Liv was concerned, we were on our own in terms of conducting our investigation.
“This whole joint investigation thing is feeling a little one-sided to me.”
“Well give it a little longer before doing a lap to check-in with Simmons. If they don’t want to help us, they can tap in two of their guys from outside. Lieu already made that clear to their Captain.” Mike said before taking a sip of his non-alcoholic delight, his face scrunching in discomfort.
“Looks delicious.” You said with a smile, earning a laugh from the Sergeant. “I’ve been meaning to ask you, have you talked to your dad since the gala a few weeks ago?”
“Oh, you mean since that SVU detective tore a Department Chief to shreds?” He joked as you rolled your eyes. “I have, and he was extremely talkative thanks to the fact I avoided him for a week after.”
“Do I owe you Chinese food for the rest of the year in order to keep my job? I should know that my outbursts don’t come cheap.”
“He told me that he was impressed by you.” Mike started, a smile slowly appearing on his face. “He was mostly upset about your blatant insubordination, especially in such a public place, but he was impressed. I think he may even like you.”
“Are you messing with me?” You asked, not fully trusting the relaxed smile he was giving you.
“He asked that I bring you along to the next gala, all of them actually, ‘if it wouldn’t be too much trouble’,” he finished in air quotes, signifying the direct words from Chief Dodds. “My father is impressed with you, and probably wants you to be his next conversational opponent.”
“And what did you say, you know, about bringing me along?”
You hoped you didn’t sound pathetic, or eager, or anything other than an inquiring friend. But it was hard to act normal when you felt the butterflies in your stomach and your heart rate increasing over the fact that Mike and his dad were talking about you.
“I said I’d have to ask her. Not sure how she feels about spending so much of her free time with the Dodds.” He said before turning in his chair to face you. “But I told him I had a good feeling you would, you don’t just tell off a Police Chief for a work friend. And of course, as long as Liv lets you keep borrowing her clothes.”
“Funny,” you said while shoving his shoulder, earning another laugh from him. It was then that you saw Ruiz head up the stairs, subtly motioning for you to meet her in the bathroom. “Ruiz is back up, I’m gonna go check-in with her.”
You walked straight to the bathroom, having to dodge a noisy bachelorette party on your way. Ruiz was washing her hands when you walked in, and you quickly cleared all the stalls before she began talking.
She kept it short so that she could get back to the game, but they weren’t getting far on the sex trafficking front. Apparently the boss was going to be here later on, but even then there was no guarantee he would offer anything up. Their investigation, of course, was going to be handled by the end of the night, but there were no promises for us.
You waited a full three minutes to exit after Ruiz in case anyone was watching her. When you left the bathroom and started making your way back to Dodds, you saw a Blonde woman sitting in your seat, cozying up next to him at the bar. As you got closer, you recognized her from the bachelorette group, a sparkly pink sash giving her away.
“Hey, everything okay?” Mike asked as you joined the two of them.
“Yeah, just a bit of a line in the bathroom.” You said, watching as the new girl continued to look Mike up and down. “Did you make a new friend?”
“I’m Alex!” She jumped in, big smile covering her face as she moved to place a hand on Mike’s arm. “I came up to get a round of shots for my group of friends. It’s Lizzie’s last weekend as a single woman, and we cannot let her be sober for one second of it. But then I got distracted by Mike over here - a guy as handsome as him shouldn’t be sitting alone at a bar.”
“Well, luckily I came back in the nick of time.” You said, hoping she would order her shots and be on her way.
“I was telling him about our weekend - we’re down here from Albany, we’re not city girls. We’re headed down the street for our next stop, apparently there’s a popular karaoke bar that all the famous people stop in at. I told Mike he should come with us, invite a few of his cute friends along too to keep the party going.”
“I don’t really see him joining you for the rest of your night, Alex, but thanks for the invite.” You replied while taking a step toward Mike, lightly wrapping your arm around his shoulder, hoping she would take a hint.
“Okay.” Alex said with a chuckle before continuing, “But you should be careful, leaving your man alone in a bar with those pretty brown eyes of his, cause someone’s gonna come up and take him away.”
“His eyes are hazel, actually, they’ve got a little bit of green in them depending on the lighting. I know it might be hard for you girls from upstate to differentiate colors, so I can help you out.”
You never considered yourself to be a jealous person, especially over someone who wasn’t even yours to have. But something about this girl coming up to Mike on this night, after the recent events that have gone down between the two of you, you felt a little protective over him.
“Everything alright over here Alex? Where are those tequila shots?” Another blonde woman with a pink sparkly sash came over to us, checking in on her friend and drinks.
“Yeah, they’re coming. Just trying to tell my new friend here to keep an eye on her boyfriend or he may decide to join the group of pretty out of town girls for the night.”
“Listen, Alex,” you remove yourself from Mike, taking a step closer to the girl who was really ruining your already shittiy night of undercover work. “I don’t know how bar etiquette works at your little townie spot up in Albany, but us city girls like to take the fight outside.”
“Alright, why don’t we just continue our night and let you girls go back to your party.” Mike interjected, feeling his hand on your lower back, steadying you out as Alex only laughed.
You took another step toward her, not knowing what your next move was, before the bartender stepped in.
“You,” he pointed to you, then to the door. “Fighting’s gonna get you thrown out any night lady. You’re done.”
“Thank you, sir,” the girls replied.
Before you could open your mouth to say anything else, Mike was standing behind you, arm wrapped around your waist to lead you toward the exit. Simmons eyed the two of you as you walked out, shaking his head with a smile on his face. You weren’t going to live this down.
The two of you made it down the block before breaking away from each other, looking back to see if anyone followed. When you looked back at Mike, his hands were on his hips, a growing smile on his face.
“Don’t,” you warned while running a hand through your hair. “Don’t say anything.”
He didn’t, but he couldn’t keep his laughter in any longer. You wanted to yell at him, tell him it wasn’t funny, that there was still an investigation going on, and this was completely embarrassing for you both. Instead, you joined in his laughter.
“Were you really going to fight the innocent bachelorette party from Albany?” He asked through his fits of laughter as you rolled your eyes.
“Of course not. But how else was I supposed to get the drunk bridesmaid away from you so we could continue our surveillance? Offer her more sparkles?”
“Or offer to buy the next round of shots.”
“Now you tell me,” you said as you leaned against the side of the building. “At least we didn’t mess up the whole op, then I’d be in really deep shit not only with Liv but with Vice, and there’s nothing I hate more than owing a favor to a Vice cop.”
He nodded, agreeing with you as he settled in next to you. You knew you should go check in with the Captain, confirm they don’t need you for anything else before leaving the investigation, but you weren’t going to move until Dodds did. And the way he relaxed next to you, you had a feeling he didn’t want to leave any time soon.
“No one ever notices that my eyes are hazel, you know. It’s kind of weird how you hit the nail right on the head with the fact about them turning green.”
You turned to look at him, a little smirk on his face as he leaned his head back against the wall.
“As weird as talking to your dad about your close friend’s gala availability?” You hit back, watching him laugh and nod along with your point. You smiled to yourself for a second, remembering the conversation from earlier. “You’re sure I don’t owe you, he does like me, or at least tolerate me?”
“Do you want to talk about how much my dad likes you or how much I like you? Cause let me tell you, I’ve got him beat by miles, I like you more than I’ve ever liked anyone.”
“Mike,” you started, watching as he pushed himself up to stand in front of you.
“Are you really going to look into my hazel eyes and tell me you don’t like me? That you weren’t going to get in a bar fight with a random girl for me?” He asked, and you let out a shaky breath.
“You know it took me a while to figure out your eyes were hazel, I thought they were brown for a while. I’m not some crazy person who just studies people’s eyes all day.” He nodded, trying to hide his smile as he let you finish, “and I wasn’t going to get in a fight with her. Maybe, maybe I would have shoved her, but I wouldn’t have thrown a punch.”
“Well that’s reassuring.” Mike added, and you couldn’t deny him now. Not when he was listening to you ramble on about his eyes, and his father, and all the weird things you two knew about each other.
“I like you too.” You confessed. “And you’re right, I wouldn’t attend galas and tell off police chiefs for just anyone. I’d only do it for you, Mike.”
“I’m glad to hear that.” He said while wrapping his arms around your waist, pulling you close.
Mike’s eyes flickered down to your lips, taking his time bringing his gaze back to your eyes. You felt yourself nod the slightest bit, gently guiding him closer to you. His lips were soft against your own, slow and gentle as you kissed him back. He pulled away for a second, another check-in, before you leaned in again. You let him take the lead as you ran your fingers through the hair at the nape of his neck, trying not to smile as you felt his teeth graze your bottom lip.
“Sorry,” he mumbled against you, lightly pecking your lips a few times.
“Don’t be, I’m not going anywhere.”
Hours could have been spent lazily kissing Mike Dodds, feeling your stomach slowly build with butterflies. But you caught the smile he was trying to suppress, and it became contagious.
“Well,” he said with a laugh, gently resting his forehead against yours. “I guess you do really like me.”
“I guess so.” You leaned back to kiss him again, not wanting to let him go now that you know how good he feels. His tongue danced across your lips for a few seconds, and you relished in the feeling before slowly pulling back. “I don’t mean to be a total buzzkill, but we aren’t exactly going to be able to hide this for long at the station.”
“We’ll figure it out.” He assured you, gently kissing your forehead. “If some shuffling needs to be done, or conversations need to be had, we’ll take care of it.”
“So your dad may get to move you around after all, how nice.” You said with a laugh, as Mike nodded. If it meant you could be together, and Mike was happy with it, why the hell not.
Before he could say anything else on the subject, his phone began to ring.
“Please don’t be Liv, please don’t be Liv,” you begged as Mike pulled away from you, quickly answering his phone.
“Hey Lieutenant,” he greeted Liv on the other end of the call and you closed your eyes. This was going to be good. “No, the Captain got it wrong. She got us thrown out for threatening to fight another woman.”
You rolled your eyes as he continued to talk to Liv, pacing the sidewalk trying to set the story straight and wrap up this godforsaken joint investigation.
Mike pulled the phone away from his ear now, walking back over to you.
“She wants to talk to you.” He said, trying to hand you his phone.
“No, she’s going to yell at me in that Liv tone, when I didn’t really do anything wrong!”
You caught his small smile before he gave you a quick kiss.
“Then you can explain that to her.” He said, holding out the phone to you. He kissed you one more time, for good luck and courage, before placing the phone in your hand.
You tried to hide your smile as you took a breath and placed the phone to your ear, ready to plead your case.
“Hey Lieu, I did not get into a bar fight with the bridesmaid from Albany.”

explaining aspects through my synastry with my boyfriend
18+ MDNI - please don’t copy my work
Hey guys I’m back again it’s been a while
I have a new boyfriend well it’s actually been a few months but I just want to show off our synastry
💛Our synastry💛
His Sun conjunct my mercury
Our relationship is strongly based on communication. He has been very helpful in encouraging me in my communication (I have Saturn in gemini).
This is everything from using solid information. Giving me resources to use in school. Helping me with my homework, to communicating my feelings and needs in our relationship. He has also has connected me a lot more with technology.
Moon conjunct moon
Our moons are out of sign but my Venus is conjunct my moon so I thought it might be worth mentioning
His Moon conjunct my Venus
We stay in all the time and we stay up at night talking about any and everything. We’re mercurials, but this aspect just allows us to unpack everything together. We always go out just to end up talking to each other in a quiet corner somewhere.
His moon in my 5th house
Yeah there’s romance. We go on dates everyday on the weekends or we find anew recipe and cook for each other all the time. We go out to art shows and analyze art together. And movies. I think this also has to do with our 2nd house synastry, but I always give him things to decorate (Venus) his house (moon). And I know how to deal with his feelings, but he also gets mine (most of the time)
My NN directly conjunct his ascendant
SN on the descendant I’ve heard this can indicate knowing eachother in a past life and everytime I end up talking to someone with these aspects it’s never a new introduction it’s always I’ve seen you somewhere. Or we’ve met before, I’ve even had lots of people have dreams about me before meaeting them. Southbode aspects always start of in the middle of something for me.
We also have a very cute story which I feel like has to also do with our Venus synastry, but when we first met He said he saw me in San Francisco and that we went to school together, and I knew I never went to school in San Francisco but then he said last winter and I knew I went there to check out colleges last minute almost a year ago, and he said he remembered seeing me and always wanted to talk to me but never saw me again. We ran into eachother at a party randomly in a city 6 hours away.
My side was I saw him at a party and thought he was cute so I was being very flirty with like smiles and staring. I really wasn’t looking for anyone but when he came in I was like he’s cuteee.
My neptune trine his ascendant
With my north node also making its place there, I think it also added to the fantasy that was our first meeting. He definitely has unrealistic ideas about me though. I don’t see what he sees but he makes me out to be this amazing angel despite it all.
His Venus in my first house
He says I’m his dream girl and he really makes me feel like I’m the hottest person he’s ever seen, sometimes it can be a bit much but I don’t mind. He also makes me feel valuable but that can also have to do with our 2nd house synastry.
My stellium (sun mars Jupiter) in his second
I love giving him things🫣 I make him art, and help him find things to decorate his house.
My Saturn in his first house
I do think due to other aspects we have a few power dynamics, and I think he thinks he’s the more mature one, but I think we just view these things in different ways. this has been my longest relationship
His mars (sag) in my 8th house
Yeah… you probably already know. This placement is categorized as sexual and intense. It is, we argue all the time, but the sex… I’ve never had sex like this he figured out all my secret spots
My Pluto conjunct his mars
Even though he can be pretty intense I feel like I do well with intensity. He probes but I want to be better about being honest.
His mars opposite my Saturn
It’s exactly what it sounds like we can’t have sex half the time because of a personal condition, it also took us a bit of time before we actually did start having sex. It’s hard to have sex at my place but he lives so far. Plus I always have responsibilities (Saturn) that he helps me with. We make a good team though he brings the action and drive to get things done and I bring… the things we have to get done lol.
His Saturn square my moon
I never thought it would manifest this way, but we have entirely different parenting styles and because of this we basically agreed we won’t work in the long run which is a contrast to the I want you forever he was giving me before. But it’s still a pretty reasonable and mature conversation and we agree that’s not something we have to think about for a while but that’s in the air.
I also believe in astrology which he doesn’t at all and tries to belittle me sometimes about it and sometimes it feels like he makes light of all my personal beliefs. He would never say this but he acts like all the things that matter to me are unrealistic and I don’t think he notices.
His Saturn square my venus
This one is actually very interesting this aspect gets characterized as “right person wrong time” it has the ability to keep two people apart through differences in responsibilities and values.
This can mean anything from age difference, infidelity, or
Saturns reputation of being cold and restrained dampens Venus and starts to weigh her down over time
I always thought this placement would be very intense and I see it slowly creeping over us, but for me as Venus I feel as though I can be very … indulgent and he tends to live life with more discipline. He often tries to encourage me to set rules, and standards to live by. We are fundamentally different and it can be quite difficult sometimes.
The timing in this relationship is also quite intriguing, he has a very steady semi fast pace for us dating. We do all the things exactly how we are supposed to and while it’s not particularly fast I think I’m more open to seeing the possibility of where we go where as he is planning for the long term.
That’s all for now 🤍

together forever

request: here
A/N: I got my new goalie gloves today 😜
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
“Come on, the beach will be fun. Aussie beaches are like the best in the world! And it’s summer. Get up.” My girlfriend says.
“Hayley, we’ve been everyday this week.” I sigh sinking into the couch.
“Yeah but we haven’t been there on sunset. Sunsets on the beach are a different kind here.” She ends up giving puppy dog eyes which she knows I can’t say no to. In all our years of dating she still manages to make me crumple.
“Fine, it better be worth it.” Her smile grows wider and she jumps up and down. To which, I can only laugh at.
“What are we waiting for? Let’s go.” I grab my phone and a towel, before following her outside and we begin the walk to the beach.
The walk consists of small talk, Hayley seems slightly nervous but I can’t imagine why. Maybe she doesn’t think I’ll like it? Time can only tell. I place her hand in mine in hopes that whatever she’s worried about will go away when she sees the sunset.
Once we arrive, I place the towel down and immediately gape at the sight in front of me. The sky is lit up in all sorts of warm colours. The sun only a third of the way set as it casts an orange glow around it. Yellow and red fill other parts of the sky, making the whole area look like it’s out of a painting. The water contrasts perfectly against the horizon, where large ships can be seen but barely.
“Haiz.. I don’t know what to say. This is… beautiful. Why wasn’t I shown this earlier?” I look at her, still in awe about our surroundings.
All she does is smile.
“I needed to wait for a special moment. Now sit. Sunset doesn’t last too long. Maybe take a picture? Even though we both know nothing compares to real life.” I nod at her words wondering what the special moment could mean.
I turn my gaze back out to the water, watching some distant surfers riding waves and getting taken out, there’s not many other people though.
“I can feel you staring babe.” I break our peaceful silence.
“I know.” Does it sound weird that I can hear her grin? Confused, I turn to look at her but my mouth drops at what she’s holding. Before I can say anything she starts.
“We’ve been dating for 3 years, which have been the best of my life, no one can make me feel the way you do. I’ve had relationships, but you’re the one that has felt the most right. If I’m not with you, I wonder what you’re doing subconsciously. Which is why I’ve decided I want you to be mine forever. So, Y/N Y/M/N Y/L/N will you make me the happiest woman ever, and marry me?”
Throughout the speech my eyes well up, I can’t believe this is happening. When she finally says the question, there’s only one answer to be said.
“Yes, with every ounce of myself yes!” I cry out, she takes the ring out of the box placing it on the left ring finger.
“How did I get so lucky to have you?” I say before thinking about it.
“I was about to say the exact same thing.” She takes my hand and kisses it. “The best sunset in the world, with the best girl in the world.” I blush uncontrollably, not even trying to hide it.
“Are we going to tell the fans? When they find out they’re gonna go crazy.” I exclaim, it’s only last week her national teammate Ellie got engaged.
“Yes we can if that’s what you want. Now?” I nod smiling. I take the photo, making sure to include the jaw dropping sunset. Hayley’s arms are wrapped around my waist, her head resting on my shoulder kissing my neck softly. While I show the ring in all its glory, she probably went broke.
I take to instagram, including her on the post with the caption ‘I’ve got the best fiancé a girl could have, and you all have another thing to go crazy about.” I hit post laughing with the one I get to call mine, and we sit until twilight. Nothing else needs to exist if I’ve got her.

J POV
“You really wanna do that Kookie?”, I ask
He nods
“Are you sure? You’re not gonna get jealous, are you?”
He scoffs, “No. Jealous of what? We’re not together”
I roll my eyes
“We don’t have to be together for you to be jealous of someone else sleeping with me.”
“Maybe if it was a guy but it’s a girl. That’s fucking hot”
Of course it is
To him
Every guy wants to see two girls together
I have never been with a girl
Not that I’m opposed to it
I’m not
My thinking is if I like someone, I like them, doesn’t matter if it’s a girl or a guy
It just so happens to have been guys so far
Jungkook is my best friend since we were kids
We stayed friends even when he left to be a part of BTS
And for the last three years we’ve been sleeping together
For him it’s sex
For me it’s love
I’ve been in love with Jungkook since we were fourteen
But he never looked twice at me
I know how he feels because he always comments on how beautiful or sweet other female idols or girls are
He’s comfortable talking to me about girls he likes and thinks are hot
Whatever
So we just have sex
And now he’s asking if I would sleep with a girl while he watched, then possibly join later
I’m not opposed to it so I agree
I always wanted to know what it was like to be with a girl
The only thing is it’s a girl he knows
A staff member for BTS
Who's apparently bi-sexual and has asked Jungkook about me
Apparently she saw me with him and she thought I was pretty
I’ve only slept with him but I really don’t know if he’s sleeping with other people
He could be sleeping with her too
“When do you wanna do this?”, he asks
“I dunno Kookie. Whenever. Doesn’t matter to me”
“Ok, uh tomorrow?”
“Damn that’s quick”, I smirk
“Well you said-”, he starts to protest
“I’m kidding, Jesus”, I cut him off
He glares at me
He takes out his phone and sends a text
His phone beeps right away and he checks it
“She said tomorrow works for her”
He has her number?
“Have you slept with her?”, I ask nonchalantly
He looks at me, “No. You’re the only person I’ve slept with so far.”
My stupid heart bursts in happiness
“Until tomorrow”, he adds, crushing the stupid happiness
So he does want to sleep with her too
Whatever, he’s not mine so I can’t say shit
But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt
--------------------------------
The next day, Jungkook comes over with the girl at 7 p.m.
“Hi”, she says, “I’m Kristy”
She’s really beautiful and hot
This is the kind of girls that are around Jungkook everyday?
No wonder he’d never want me
Not with girls like this. I never had a shot
I smile at her, “Hi, I’m Joanne”
“I know. Jungkook told me about you”, she smiles
“Oh?”
“Yeah.”
Jungkook and I stand there awkwardly
But Kristy just smiles and takes my hand
“You’re room is this way?”, she asks
Damn, she’s quick
I nod and she pulls me behind her with Jungkook following
My apartment is small
There’s only two rooms aside from the living room and kitchen
The bedroom and bathroom
It’s not hard to navigate
We get to my room
She puts her bag down and she just grabs me and kisses me
It feels the same as kissing a guy
“Jungkook said he wants to watch for awhile.”, she says
I nod
I brought a chair from the kitchen in my room before they got here
He goes to it and sits
“Joanne”, Kristy says and my eyes snap to hers
“Relax. I know it’s your first time with a girl but I’m gonna make sure you have fun ok?”
I nod again, not nervous at all
It's surprising
She leans in and kisses me again
Her lips are really soft and they taste like strawberries
Lip gloss, I guess
She licks my lip and I open my mouth letting her slip her tongue in and massages mine with hers
Wow
She’s a great kisser and she’s turning me on
Her tongue is pierced like mine and it feels amazing
I kiss her back and put my arms around her neck
She’s my height so I don’t have to reach up or stand on my toes like I do with Jungkook
She pushes me back on the bed and follows me
She moves my hair from my face and attaches her lips to mine again, slowly touching me, running her hands up and down my body
“Touch me”, she says
I realize I’m just sitting there
So I move my hands and I touch her sides
She feels good
I just have to loosen up
And stop thinking about Jungkook who’s sitting there
So I move my hand to her breast and I squeeze
She moans in my mouth and I feel myself get a little wet
Kristy suddenly pulls away, my shirt ripped off my body
My bra follows in the next second
She giggles, “Your tits are huge. I bet Jungkook loves playing with them”
I blush
He does
“I love big boobs”, she tells me then kisses me, touching both of my breast with her hands
“Oh fuck your nipples are pierced. That’s so hot”, she moans between kisses
One of her thumbs flick my nipple and I get more wet
It feels so fucking good
I pull away and grab her shirt and rip it off her
Then I unclasp her bra and throw it at Jungkook
It lands on his leg and he lets it fall on the floor
Her breasts are a good size, not too big, not to small
When I touch them she moans
She pushes me down and starts sucking on one of my nipples
“Oh fuck!”, I moan
“Yeah baby, now we’re getting somewhere”, she smiles
Her tongue swirls around my nipple, then she bites on one of the balls of my piercing and tugs
The tugging sensation floods my body with pleasure and I get soaking wet
When she pulls away, I lean up and wrap my lips around one of her nipples
She moans and I get more confident
I suck on her nipple while squeezing her other one
After a minute I switch
She’s making so much noise
I want to know if she’s as wet as I am, so I push her on her back and lay next to her, my mouth back on hers
I slip my hand under her panties and jeans, moving down and touching her
I moan in her mouth as I feel how fucking wet she is too
I’m feeling kind of proud of myself for turning a girl on
I sit up and undo her jeans
“Mmm you want pussy now?”, she teases
I nod and pull everything down and off
Her fucking body is smoking hot. She’s grinning at me and I rip her legs open
“Yeah baby girl is getting rough. I love it”
I lean down to her lips, catching hers in a kiss while my hands go back to her pussy
At least now I know what to do
I know what we like
I use my fingers to rub her clit in circles
“Oh god”, she yells in my mouth
I pull away from her and keep rubbing her quickly
Her hand has an iron grip on my other arm
I slide my fingers in her and start pumping my fingers in and out
She feels so wet and warm, yelling and moaning
When I feel her tighten up, I know she’s gonna cum
“Joanne fuck”, she yells
“Yeah baby, cum”, I growl and she does, yelling loudly
Holy shit, is this how Jungkook feels when he does it to me?
Because it makes me feel great
I pull my fingers out of her
And fuck it, I’m curious
I slip my fingers in my mouth, tasting her
Not bad, she’s pretty good
No where near as good as Jungkook but still
“You like how I taste?”, she asks, smirking
I nod
“There’s more if you want it”, she teases
I find myself wanting more
I shrug and lay down between her legs
I look at her pussy
I’ve seen my own in a mirror but I’ve never seen another girl’s
She’s smooth, clean shaven and wet again
I decide to just do it
Putting my tongue on her, I swipe up her pussy, making her jump
She tastes good
I make my tongue flat on her and I lick right in the middle of her pussy, my tongue ring rubbing her too
“Yes”, she cries and grabs my hair, “You’re fucking tongue”
I move to her clit and flick it over and over with the tip of my tongue
Then I suck on it, hard
“Aaaaaa”, she cries
I alternate between her clit and the rest of her pussy
The one thing I didn’t expect is that it’s messy
All of her juice is all over my mouth, lips and chin
Then again I may just be doing it wrong
She’s enjoying it though so that’s a win
“Oh God, Joanne, fuck”, Kristy moans and she cums
I feel her cum in my mouth and I just swallow it
I keep licking her until she stops moving
I like it when Jungkook does that so I do it.
Then I keep going
“Jjjj..Joanne…”, she moans
“Again”, I say running my tongue up and down her, tasting all of her and loving it
“Fuck Joanne, you’re so good at this. How are you so good at it?”, she cries
I honestly don’t know
I put my tongue, flatly on her clit making sure the ball of my tongue ring is touching her and I move it quickly
“Yes fuck. Oh my god!”, she cries, her body shaking
Her reactions are making me feel really good
Is this how Jungkook feels when I shake and scream?
It only takes a few seconds of me playing with her clit for her to cum in my mouth again
“Yes yes yes! Joanne! Fuck!”
I lick all her cum up before pulling away, sitting up, and wiping my mouth on my arm
Kristy sits up and pulls me in a kiss
“You’re really good at eating pussy. You sure you never did this before?”
I shake my head, “No. I just thought of what Jungkook does to me and I tried to do it to you”
“He’s a good teacher then”, she smirks glancing at him
I completely forgot he was there
He hasn’t made any sounds or even moved
When I glance at him, he’s not even looking at me or her
He’s looking at the floor
Why isn’t he watching?
I’m doing this for him because he asked and he’s not even paying attention
Suddenly I feel my legs get pulled out from under me and I fall back on the bed
“Shit”, I gasp
Kristy is already pulling my pants and panties off before I know it
She really doesn’t waste anytime
She opens my legs and attaches her tongue to me
“Holy shit!”, I shout
She moves her tongue rapidly and pleasure washes over me
I feel the ball of her tongue ring on me and it feels so good
Fuck she’s amazing at this
I watch her for a minute, until she sucks on my clit
Then I moan, close my eyes and push my head back into the pillow
My hands clutch the sheets under me as she continues
“Fuck, Jungkook was right. You taste fucking incredible”
What?
He talks about that with other people
Why?
And that’s embarrassing
She moves her tongue on my clit, rubbing the same spot over and over
My body starts to tremble
I turn my head, just moaning and feeling the pleasure
I open my eyes and I meet Jungkook’s eyes
He’s just staring at me, at my face, not at what she’s doing to me, which is what I assume he’d want to see
I can’t read his face
He’s not frowning but he’s not happy either
Whatever
I can’t worry about him right now
I close my eyes again
I just want to feel her tongue on me and not think
She sucks my clit again and I feel myself explode from the feeling
I don’t even think as I scream, “Jungkook, fuck, oh god, Jungkook!”
Suddenly the pleasure leaves and I lift my head up
Jungkook is pulling Kristy off me
“Ok that’s enough. It’s done. Get dressed”, he orders
“But I’m not done”, she protests
“Yeah you are. Put your clothes on. I’m driving you back to your house. Now.”
“What the fuck Jungkook? What’s your problem?”, she shouts
“Just get dressed. We’re going now”
He picks up Kristy’s clothes and shoves them at her, then herds her out of my bedroom
He doesn’t look back at me or even speak to me
And I’m just stunned
A few minutes later I hear my front door open and close, then it’s quiet
What is his problem?
He wanted this
Now he’s pissed?
Or maybe he’s not
He didn’t even look at me
Maybe he wants her and is going to her place to fuck her now
My heart breaks at that thought
I can’t keep doing this to myself
I can’t keep loving him when there’s no chance
I’m gonna have to stay away from him for a little while
I get up and lock my door then I go head for a shower
🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰
Jungkook POV
I’m driving back to Joanne’s apartment
I’m so fucking stupid
Why did I ask for this?
I thought it was what I wanted
But I was so wrong
I couldn’t watch her with Kristy
I couldn’t because I wasn’t enjoying it
I thought it’d be hot to watch but it wasn’t
All it did was make me so jealous and angry at myself
I wanted Joanne to be kissing me instead of Kristy
I wanted her to be touching me, using her mouth on me, moan because of me, cum because of me
When she did cum, she screamed my name
She still shouted my name even though someone else was getting her off
When I heard that, I couldn’t let it happen anymore
I didn’t want Kristy touching her or even being near her
Today showed me loud and clear that what I’m trying to hide is true
I love her
So much
I started feeling this way almost a year and a half ago
But she’s my best friend
No way she’d feel like that for me
Also I’m an idol
It would be extremely hard for me to have a relationship
Especially with all the ARMYS
I’m not dumb, I know a lot of our fan base thinks I’m the hottest or whatever because I’m the youngest
I get compliments all the time and I’m a lot of girl’s bias
But I don’t care because Joanne’s not the one saying it
And I feel that ARMY wouldn’t accept me having a girlfriend
It’d have to be a secret and that’s not fair to her
We’d never be able to go out in public together
I’d never be able to hold her hand or kiss her anywhere besides the dorm or her apartment
But I love her
She’s the only one I want
Today showed me that I don’t want anyone else touching her but me
I don’t want to see her with anyone else but me
I want her to love me
To be with me
I know it’s not fair but I want her to be mine
And I’m going to her place to tell her that
Hopefully she’ll feel like I do and agree to be with me
--------------------------------
It’s around ten when I get back to her apartment
I knock on the door
I don’t think she’s asleep
She’s on break from college so she doesn’t have school this week
I knock again and hear footsteps through the door and she opens it
And I just stare at her
She’s changed into shorts and a tank top
Her hair is wet
She probably showered after I left
Every thought leaves my mind when I see her
I just want her
“Jungkook, what are you…”
She doesn’t finish because I pull her close and kiss her
I’m relieved when she responds and kisses me back
I kick her door closed and pull her body closer
I slide my tongue in her mouth and touch hers
She moans a little and I get so turned on
I need her
Right now
I pick her up, her legs wrapping around me and carry her to the bed, laying her down and go on top of her
She runs one hand up and down my torso and fire runs through me
She makes me feel so good and we haven’t done anything yet
I pull away and sit on my knee
I grab her tank top and rip it down the middle to get it off her
I do the same to her short
She’s not wearing any bra or panties so she’s completely naked under me
She sits then takes my shirt off and pulls my pants and boxers down
I help her get out of them then lay back on top of her, with her legs open so I can lay between them
As soon as her skin touches mine, I shiver
I love the feeling of her against me
Just her body touching mine…it’s the best
I kiss her, then move to her neck, to the spots she loves
This time though I suck on her skin and leave hickies all over
She’s mine and no one else’s
Everyone has to know she’s mine
“I’m going to make you feel so good baby”, I say between kisses, “Better than anyone else could ever make you feel”
“Kookie”, she moans
“I’m going to touch you better than her, I’m going to eat you out better than she ever could, I’m going to fuck you better than anyone.”
She moans and grabs on to me
“You better get ready baby girl because you’re going to cum non-stop tonight. You’re mine”
She whimpers and I love hearing it
My lips trail down to her nipple and I take it in my mouth
“Fuck”, she yells
I know how to make her cum just from playing with her nipples
I love biting and pulling on her piercings
When I do that without stopping she cums
I don’t need to touch her
But I want to tonight
I’ve been aching to touch her since I walked through her door earlier with Kristy
So I pull on her piercing, feeling the hard metal in my mouth and my hand on her clit
She’s already soaking and I love it
I start moving my hand on her and she responds by pulling my hair and making sounds
Sounds that drive me wild
I slip in two fingers and start to fuck her that way, while still sucking on her perfect nipples
She cums within a minute, groaning
I quickly let go of her nipples and pull my fingers out, instantly slamming my tongue on her pussy
“Kookie!”, she yells
I smirk at how she jumps, then I continue to lick her
I know what she likes and where better than anyone
I know how to make her cum in an instant and to keep her orgasming
And that’s what I’m going to do to her
Tonight is all her
I don’t care about me in the slightest
I want to make my baby feel good
I tug on her clit a few times and she orgasms again
I love the way she tastes and I can never get enough
I have to force myself away from most of the time
My tongue slides in and I lick her all over
All it takes is a few swipes and she’s coming again, screaming my name and covering my tongue with her delicious cum
“Kookie! Fuck Kookie!”
She’s still yelling Kookie
I need to change that
I don’t stop licking that spot and I get her to cum two more times, her body trembling more and more each time
I pull away and maneuver her so she’s on her knees, holding on to the headboard
Then I lay down under her and pull her pussy to my mouth by her hips
I run my tongue along her cunt making her shout out in pleasure
I want her to fuck my mouth, so I move her hips back and forth to tell her what I want
She gets it and she starts moving and grinding on my tongue by herself
I love this so much
I love when she uses my tongue to get herself to cum
I don’t know if other guys like going down on girls but I do
Only to her though
I don’t get why anyone wouldn’t like it
Maybe other girls taste bad?
I don’t have that problem with her
She tastes fucking incredible, all of her- her skin, her wetness and especially her cum
I love the feel of her sliding on my tongue, every part of her pussy touching my tongue
And just knowing that I turn her on this much, is such a huge turn on and power trip
“Cum baby”, I say, then I suck on her clit
"Jungkook!“, she screams and releases on my tongue again
Finally
She’s calling me Jungkook
That means I’m giving it to her good
"Don’t stop Jungkook. Don’t stop”, she whines
“You wanna cum again baby girl?”
“Yes”
“On my tongue?”
“Yes, Fuck yes”
I clamp on her clit again and gently use my tongue and teeth to tug and pull it
She shouts and shakes above me, orgasming hard
I don’t give her any time to relax
I pick her up from her thighs and bring her down on my cock
“Yes fuck”, I shout
“Oh my god, Jungkook”, she cries when I start to thrust up into her while I keep slamming her down
“Fuck baby. You’re body is so sexy”, I compliment her
Her body is
She has a small frame since she’s short
She has a small stomach and waist with fucking huge beautiful boobs that are bouncing so hard from how hard I’m fucking her
And they’re real which is even better
Her hips and thighs are just perfect, her ass is small but perfectly round and she has long fucking legs that are to die for, even though she’s short
Really her body is all tits and legs
Add her tattoos to that and I was a goner the first time I saw her naked
“Baby”, she yells
“C'mon baby, I know you wanna cum again”
She lets out a scream as she goes over the edge again, tightening on my cock making me shout too
She tries to move off but I hold her on me
“Not done yet baby girl. I told you, you’re coming non stop tonight”, I smirk
“Jungkook…I..ccaa”
“Don’t tell me you can’t because you can. You’ve done it before”
“Ye…yeah but..”
“No buts Jo. Let me make you feel amazing ok?”
“O…O ok”, she stutters
I bring her down on me over and over. I don’t thrust up because I’m scared I’ll cum and I don’t want to yet
The pleasure is already so intense
Her pussy was made for me
She fits around me so well, like a glove
She’s so tight and I love being in her
It’s my favorite place to be
I slam her and hold her down when she screams again, shaking and coming hard
I flip her on her hands and knees and pound back in
“Jungkook, I..”
She can’t get out the words
“I wanna stay Jo. Please, can I stay in you?”
She nods quickly, “Yea, baby, fuck, yea”
I fuck her mercilessly, her screams getting louder with each thrust Reaching around I play with her clit while I’m ramming her
“Yes Jungkook, don’t stop. Harder, god fuck me harder”
I move harder in her and by her squeezing I know she’s about to go She explodes on me with another loud yell
I move my hand off her clit and move her back and forth on my cock with her hips
“Baby, Goddamn, I love seeing your cum on my cock. It turns me on so much.”
She doesn’t answer just moans sounds
I love watching myself go in and out of her pussy
I feel her building up and she orgasms again
I lost count of how many times I made her cum
But I’m not done yet
I flip her over to her back, hold her legs open and thrust back in
“Fuck Jungkook, your cock is so hard. It feels incredible”, she shouts
“I’m happy you like it baby”, I answer as I snap my hips hard and fast, going in deeper and deeper
I’m getting to her spot that can make her orgasm within seconds of each other
Her body and hair is drenched in sweat
Mine is too but I don’t stop
Sweat from my hair drips and falls on her stomach
Her eyes are closed and she’s breathing really heavily
My eyes land on the hickies I gave her and I feel my possessiveness over her come roaring back
“You’re mine”, I yell, slamming hard
She yelps and opens her eyes
“Do you hear me? You are mine”
She nods, “Ok”
“No, ok. I fucking love you and you’re all mine.”
Her eyes widen at my words and I hear what I’m saying but I’m too far gone to care
I want her to hear me
“No one else touches you but me. No one else fucks you but me. No one makes you cum but me. No one kisses you, only me. I love you and you’re mine. Only mine. Understand?”, I shout
“Yes! Jungkook yes. I..I love you too”, she yells
She loves me too
I’m so fucking happy
“I love you Joanne. You’re mine and I’m yours. Only yours. No one touches me except for you, ok?”
“Ok, yes,”, she nods
I hit her spot making her scream and I keep slamming it over and over, fast and hard
I love hearing her screams
I watch her as her eyes close and she screams my name coming so intensely
“Jungkook. Jungkook!”
She clenches me so tightly, that I’m having a hard time pushing through
But I want to keep hitting her spot
I want her to orgasm more
Her pussy is creaming all over my cock, clenching me in a death grip, tears falling down her face from the pleasure
And still I keep going, waiting for her to call apart
I slam into her as hard as I can and she screams the loudest I’ve ever heard her scream when she cums this time
“Jungkook!”
The overwhelming pleasure takes over my body and I shout her name when I cum, deep inside
“Joanne!”
I know it’s a lot and it last longer than usual because I must have been fucking her for an hour straight and the pressure inside me was immense
But it’s the best orgasm I’ve ever had
Her body goes limp and I clumsily fall right on top of her
I know she must be exhausted but she still immediately puts her arms around me, holding me close to her
I wrap my arms around her body, hugging her back
I just lay on her, listening to her rapid heartbeat
After a while of silence and us just getting our breathing and heartbeat normal, I pick my head up and look up at her
I thought she was asleep but she’s not
She’s looking at the ceiling but when she feels me move she looks at me
And smiles her beautiful smile
“I love you”, I tell her
She reaches out and moves my hair off my face
“I love you”, she answers
“Do you really?”, I ask shyly, scared she’s just saying it
“I do. I’ve been in love with you since we were fourteen”
Fourteen?
That long?
Why didn’t I see it?
I’m such a fucking idiot.
If I’d just open my eyes, I could of had her since we were teenagers
I feel like a total jerk
“I…I didn’t know”
“I know Kookie. I hid it from you”, she replies
“I’m sorry”
“Not your fault”, she shrugs, “But do you really love me?”
“One hundred percent. I’ve been in love with you for a long time but I kept pushing it away”
“Why?”
“Because I was scared you wouldn’t feel the same. And that you wouldn’t want to be with an idol. It’s not easy with my schedule and it has to be a secret. We can’t do normal couple things like go out in public together or be affectionate in public. I know it’s not fair to you and I was scared you’d think it wasn’t worth it”, I confess, “And I’m still scared of that.”
“Don’t be. Of course you’re worth it Jungkook. I’ll do anything to be with you. I always would have. So what if it’s going to be hard? Life’s not easy. We’ll work everything out. As long as I’m with you I don’t care. As long as I can hold you and kiss you when we're alone, I don’t care about being seen in public. I don’t care that it has to be a secret. As long as I have you and you love me nothing else matters.”
She’s saying everything I wanted to hear and from the look in her eyes, I know she’s telling the truth
She really wants me
Me
And I want her so fucking much
“So, uh, this means you’re mine?”, I ask shyly
“Yes Jungkook. If you’re mine?”
“Definitely.”
She smiles at me and I get up and kiss her, long and gently
“I love you Joanne”
“I love you Jungkook”
I kiss her again and this time I touch down her body
When I get down to her, she’s wet again
That’s good because I’m hard again
I sit up and hold her legs up, position myself right there
“Again baby?”, she giggles
“Yea baby girl. I told you over and over. You’re not sleeping tonight. I’m gonna make you cum all night”
“Good”, she smirks
She’s such a little shit sometimes
Lucky for her I love her so much
I thrust inside her and we both yell at how good it feels
“Round 2”, I whisper
“Then more? All night?”, she asks
I nod and she smiles
We kiss again and then I start moving

Moves & Countermoves (Part 12)
Summary: No one ever wins the games, even fourteen years later, Y/N is still playing.
Prologue | One | Two | Three | Four | Five | Six | Seven | Eight | Nine | Ten | Eleven
“We have one month, that is all. After that, two of us are back in the arena and we need to be ready.”
This meeting of district twelve’s victors is called to session a bit earlier than Haymitch would like. Not that any of them have been sleeping anyway.
“So you want us to do what, exactly?” Haymitch cocks his head to the side.
“I think we need to train, all of us. Everyday.” Peeta says, pointedly.
Haymitch huffs a laugh.
Y/N squeezes her husband’s shoulder, “I don’t think it’s a bad idea.”
“You’re gonna start deadlifting until this kid comes flying out of you?” Haymitch rears back in perturbed amusement.
Y/N shakes her head. “There are things I can still do. Brush up on my skills, learn a new one.”
“I could teach her to shoot,” Katniss offers.
Y/N shrugs, “she could teach me to shoot.”
“And you could teach us how to throw knifes.”
“We’ve all won the games.” Peeta reminds Haymitch in particular. “We can all learn from each other.”
————————————————————————
A couple weeks later they sit down with the kids, unsure how to broach the topic of tonight’s discussion. But the whispers around town are loud, better they hear it from their parents than someone else.
“Do you remember when we talked about the Hunger Games?” Y/N begins.
Everest nods, they talk about it in school too. “If you win, you become a victor.”
“Right,” Y/N leans across the table a bit more.“This year is a Quarter Quell.”
“That means a special games, like Daddy’s.” Arista adds.
“This year…” Haymitch hesitates, “it means that only victors can go.”
“They can’t do that,” Everest interjects.
“But you’re victors.” Arista says, a look of realization dawning over her features.
“Let’s talk through this.” Haymitch attempts to calm his children. “I know you both have a lot of questions.”
“No, they can’t do that. It’s not fair!” Everest’s little hands ball into fists.
“Honey-”
“Are you gonna die?” He cries, angry, hot tears cascading over his cheeks. “Katniss? Peeta? What about our friends? Cashmere, Gloss, Finnick, Mags? Who’s gonna take care of us if you’re both-”
Arista’s breathing picks up and she abandons her seat, crawling into her mother’s lap, though there is not much room. “They can’t make you play with a baby in your belly.”
“Shhh.” Y/N rocks her gently. “I don’t want you to be afraid.”
“So that’s it? We just give up?”
“No,” Y/N locks eyes with her son. “We’re not giving up, we’re gonna fight. Every victor, all of us, to try and stop the games.”
“Maybe you can stop it.” Arista nods, against Y/N’s chest.
“Maybe we can,” Y/N agrees, “but if we can’t, just incase, we need to talk about-”
“Is Aunt Madge gonna take us?”
“That’s the very last resort.” Haymitch admits, “we don’t know whose names they’re gonna call, even then, someone else could volunteer. Ideally, one of us will be able to-”
“So what you’re saying is that after this two weeks we might never see you again?”
“We’re going to do everything we can.” Haymitch promises.
“But it’s possible?” Everest is confused, outraged.
“Yes. It’s possible.”
The days run together, between training and spending as much time with their children as they can. On that last night, the children sleep between them, Y/N on one side and Haymitch on the other, clinging to this moment.
Cruelly, inevitably, the sun rises. Madge is at their door and Y/N comes to answer, while Haymitch and the children ready themselves.
Her sister says not a word, pulling Y/N in for a hug.
“Thank you for coming.” Y/N breathes, smoothing down the younger woman’s hair.
“You don’t need to thank me.” Madge wishes she could do more. “I’ll do my part here and wait for you to come home.”
“They need you, Madge. Now more than ever.”
Madge only holds her tighter. “I love you.”
“I love you so much.”
Peacekeepers are sent to collect them, marching the four victors to the justice building. Prim and Mrs. Everdeen trail closely behind Madge and the Abernathy children, one clasped in each hand.
“Welcome, welcome,” Effie begins her speech, “as we celebrate the seventy-fifth anniversary and third Quarter Quell of the Hunger Games.”
From his place on the stage, Haymitch can see his children. The boy, that squawked like a bird the first time he was placed in Haymitch’s arms, reminding him that the world might not be such a terrible place. The girl, that had him wrapped around her little finger before she could speak and gave him reason to dream. They look to him in fear now. Fear that they will lose their mother, fear that they will lose him.
“As always, ladies first.”
Y/N reaches for Katniss’ hand. There is nothing to hope for, no favorable outcome.
Effie draws the name, clearing her throat before announcing. “Y/N Abernathy.”
Madge lifts Arista into her arms, hushing the little girl as best she can, but she is distraught. Her hiccuping sobs causing the crowd to shift uncomfortably. Prim scoots in to rub her back.
Everest does not move. He does not blink and he does not cry. Forever ingraining this image of his mother in his mind.
Y/N can’t risk a glance at Haymitch. She knows how deeply the knife is buried in his chest, how the guilt will twist it, now and for years to come.
Katniss jerks her back almost forcefully, “no.”
“It’s ok,” Y/N whispers.
“I volunteer.”
“Katniss, please don’t do this.” Y/N pleads, but they are out of time, they are out of good choices.
“I volunteer as tribute.” Katniss announces, with more certainty the second time. Pulling her hand from Y/N’s to stand beside Effie, at the center of the stage.
“Wonderful.” Effie swallows down her sorrow, the show must go on, “and now for the male.”
Y/N’s head is light, spinning as if she might faint. Her lungs burn, perhaps she has stopped breathing.
“Haymitch Abernathy.”
“I volunteer as tribute,” Peeta says, without hesitation.
“I can’t let you do that,” Haymitch stops him, with a hand to his chest.
“You can’t stop me.” Peeta narrows his eyes.
“Peeta-”
“Let go.”
Haymitch has no choice but to obey. Sending their victors back as tributes, erasing all they’ve done.
“Very well,” Effie sniffs, hoping to regain some composure, “the tributes from district twelve; Katniss Everdeen…and Peeta Mellark.”
The entirety of their district raises three fingers in solidarity. They are not alone in this sadness; this defeat. Among the crowd, Y/N finds her mother, who has not been coherent enough to attend a reaping since her own.
She’s never blamed her mother, not for her absence or her addiction, nor the inability to move past Maysilee’s untimely death. Y/N cannot imagine losing her little sister, part of her would die too.
The idea that maybe she could talk to her before she leaves, maybe her mother has some divine words of wisdom or comfort-
Commander Thread takes Katniss by the arm, robbing her and Peeta of the chance to say goodbye. Y/N and Haymitch are carted away shortly after. Straight to the train station.
The ride is silent for a long while; eventually the four of them find each other, dutifully seated in the blue velveteen chairs. Drawn together like magnets, though there are no words.
Haymitch slumps down in his chair, extending his free hand to Y/N.
She takes it, the same way she always has, with a love and understanding that Haymitch is sure he will never deserve. But that is the problem with love; with life, really. So rarely does anyone get what they deserve.
Y/N continues preparing her presentation for the morning, detailing the participating victor’s strengths and weaknesses. Hesitating at each name she knows well.
Cashmere and Gloss, district one…
The train car doors open and Effie joins them, “before we begin, I’ve had a thought.”
“You don’t say.”
Effie gives Haymitch the side eye, pressing on in spite of his remark. “Katniss has her gold mockingjay pin, I have my hair.” The swirling golden updo. “I’m going to get the three of you something gold.”
Y/N finally looks up.
“And why is that?” Haymitch wonders, sipping at his teacup, containing a bit more than leaves.
“A token! Show them we are a team, and they can’t just-”
“Thank you,” Katniss says, taking Effie’s hand.
Peeta’s gaze softens. He’s accepted his fate, the only thing to do now is make sure Katniss is happy, keep her alive.
————————————————————————
No expense is spared for this very special Quarter Quell. A new training center and tribute living quarters are waiting to greet them in the Capitol.
“I want you to forget everything you think you know about the games.” Haymitch cuts through the silence. “Last year was child’s play, this year you’re dealing with all experienced killers.”
“Ok. What does that mean for us?” Peeta asks.
“It means you’re going to need some allies.”
“No.” Katniss shoots him down.
“Do it your own way, but we know these people and if you go it alone their first move will be to hunt you down.”
“Katniss, I know it’s not easy for you to trust them,” Y/N understands how difficult this all must be. “So you’re just gonna have to trust us.”
“Fine, show me.”
Y/N makes for her tablet, dimming the lights as her slideshow is put to the big screen.
“This should be good.” Peeta relaxes farther into the loveseat beside Katniss.
“Cashmere and Gloss. Brother and sister from district one, they won back to back games, Capitol favorites, lots of sponsors.”
“This is your first choice?” Katniss nearly chokes on her own saliva.
“Well,” Y/N swipes to the next screen, “they’re careers so they are extremely lethal. A few other positive attributes would be strength, agility, very intelligent. They offer protection, opportunities for better sponsors-”
“Despite some favoritism and general bias on her part,” Haymitch motions to Y/N, “this a strong choice.”
Katniss nods, she’ll consider it. For Y/N.
“From district three, Wiress and Beetee. Not fighters, but brilliant and…weird, real tech savvy.”
“We chose them because they offer a unique skill set-”
“Yes.” Katniss agrees, surprising even Peeta.
“O-ok,” Y/N moves to the next contender. “This is Finnick, from district four.”
“He won his games at fourteen, youngest ever. Don’t let that fool you, he’s incredibly humble.”
“You’re kidding.” Katniss scoffs.
“Yes, he’s a peacock, a total preener,” Haymitch does not mince words, “but he’s the Capitol darling, they love him here, lots of sponsors.”
“Very skilled in combat, especially in water.”
They carry on like this for some time, through Johanna in seven, Chaff and Seeder in eleven. Leaving Peeta and Katniss much to discuss as they retire for the night.
“You think she’ll come around?” Y/N dares to ask.
“You want me to be honest?” Haymitch tosses wayward hair from his eyes.
“Yes.”
“It’s gonna take a miracle.”
————————————————————————
Watching Haymitch’s games is a necessary evil, giving them some insight into the craftings of a Quarter Quell arena. The landscape is nothing short of paradise. Vibrant colors, beautiful creatures and a feast, complete with candy, weapons, anything a tribute could ask for; right at the cornucopia.
But the food is poison and the wildlife is deadly, in the games nothing is ever as it seems.
Though Haymitch does not fall prey to the gamemarker’s trap, many tributes do. He goes it alone for a while, ending up head to head with a pack of allies. He fights, better than Katniss imagines anyone could without experience; managing to take down two out of three opponents, before the knife is held to his throat.
The girl who spares him looks familiar, in a way that Katniss can’t place, sporting the same gold mockingjay pin she was given at the hob. “We’d live longer with two of us.”
“She looks like Madge.” Peeta voices this before Katniss can.
“She’s my mom’s little sister,” Y/N explains.
And then it all makes sense, or none of it does. Another layer to their mentor’s great ‘love story’ for Katniss and Peeta to attempt dissecting, in a bizarre form of pillow talk.
Haymitch has found the edge of the arena, Maysilee wants to turn back and he doesn’t. “We should say goodbye now. There’s only five of us, don’t want it to come down to the two of us.”
“Ok,” Haymitch lets her go.
Her screams follow not long after, the bubblegum pink birds begin tearing through her throat with razor sharp beaks.
Y/N remains glued to the screen, though the ending never changes and she cannot raise the dead.
In the end, Haymitch puts the force field to good use, leading the last career and her axe to the cliff side. Holding intestines inside his body with one hand, he waits for the weapon to ricochet; burying its blade in her skull.
“That was smart.” Katniss purses her lips.
“Too smart,” Haymitch bites out in warning, “do not attempt it. That move got my family killed.” He leaves without a word.
Y/N doesn’t go after him. Sometimes Haymitch needs to be alone and if she chases him, he won’t run. He’s too good a man and he loves her too much. He would stay, even as every cell in his body yearns to go.
————————————————————————
Haymitch returns, after a bottle or two and a very interesting talk with Plutarch. There is a plan, one to extract the victors from the arena, all they have to do is stay alive until then. He searches the tribute living quarters for Y/N, finding her already asleep in their bed.
He is determined not to wake her, flipping off the forgotten light overhead and changing out of his suit.
She stirs as he draws back the covers. “Haymitch?”
“Shh,” he climbs in behind Y/N to cradle her belly, “sleep.”
“Is everything ok?” She reaches back, stroking his hair.
“Everything is fine.” He finds her hand, kissing at her wrist and fingers, before gently lying it back on the bed.
Y/N nuzzles farther against him, “ok.”
“You know I’m always coming back, right? No matter what.” Their child shifts under his palm.
“I know,” she nods.
“If anything ever happened to you-”
“Haymitch, you don’t need to say it.”
Yes I do. “When I lost my family, I kept going. Out of spite, or insanity, whatever it was that kept me going, I did it. But if you were gone…if our kids were gone; I couldn’t. I need you safe. I need you.”
“You have me.” Y/N breathes, “right here. Just you and me.”

coffee and basketball
pairing: kate martin x fem reader! 2022-2023 season!
warnings: fluff! friends to lovers trope!? small mention of drinking! mentions of anxiety/fear of love!
authors note: pls be gentle this is my first fic
—
dec 5th 2022 ~ post iowa win against iowa state (dec 4th). score 70-57. kate martin with 13 points.
reader’s pov
the energy in iowa city was booming after last night’s win. i’ve been working at this coffee shop in iowa city since my freshman year of college and i’ve become accustomed to talking “game talk” my entire shift the day after a game, and if any of the players decide to stop in to do homework or for a quick drink, i sympathize as i watch them get trapped into nonstop conversations about basketball. iowa city is extremely proud of and cherishes our women’s basketball team, and quite frankly you never hear the end of it when you’re living here.
our coffee shop gets quite busy everyday, and my shift passes by with ease. as i’m finishing making the last order i took before clocking out, i see two familiar blondes walk in.
“hiiii!!! great game you guys!! your usuals today?”
“hey y/n thank you, yes please! how are you? when are you actually going to come to a game in person!” monika exclaimed. after working here for so long, we’ve developed a genuine friendship, sometimes catching up for a drink or just enjoying each other’s company in our apartments.
“i know, i know.. i promise i will before the season ends!” i laughed as i made their drinks. “kate, you did really good last night, i really wish i could’ve been there”.
i could see kate blushing out of the corner of my eye as I finished making their drinks, and monika nudging her. “y/n i am going to drag you to the next home game myself, kate always looks around and hopes you’re the-“ monika was interrupted by kate obnoxiously faking a cough attack. i laughed, blushing and handed them their drinks. as i handed kate her drink, our fingertips slightly touched and we made eye contact.
“in the meantime maybe we can go to open gym tonight? i can rebound for you and give you time to reenact some of your moves from the game for me” i said as i smiled up at kate with my eyebrows raised. although i was NOT short, yet kate disagrees, she was still 8 inches taller than me as I stood at 5’4. “we can meet at my apartment at 6 if you’re up for it”.
kate knew what i was doing. i knew what i was doing.
kate’s pov
my palms were immediately sweating. i looked down at her and honestly just forgot every single thing she’s said since i walked in because i cannot stop looking at her eyes and how well they compliment her dark hair, she just dyed it - i can tell. My eyes scan over her exposed tattoos on her arm and i quickly look back into her eyes so i don’t look like more of a creep than i already do.
“6pm is good. i’ll be there. at 6”, i tried playing it cool. she laughed, shaking her head and saying her quick goodbyes as she had to rush to her 2 o’clock class.
“you know you said 6 twice. i think she knew what time considering SHE asked YOU” monika explained while almost tumbling over laughing. “i mean kate, you should’ve seen your face. you two have been doing this for a year now. why have you not made a move on her? she’s clearly interested in you”
i sighed, “monika I don’t know. i really do like her but it’s just scary. i don’t know if i can commit to something, especially right now. basketball is our life and how will someone ever be able to fall in love with me if i can only see them for a few hours a week?” monika rubbed my shoulder and brought me in for a hug.
“just because you are a D1 athlete does not mean this is your entire life. you still deserve to have a life outside of basketball, and if anyone, she would be the most understanding” monika said, “you’ve got to make a move before she gives up. i know she’s into you kate. you deserve to feel and be loved”.
she really always was right.
we spent the rest of the day doing homework together and making lunch. as it got closer to 6, i could feel the knots in my stomach getting worse. luckily, we lived in the same apartment complex so it was a quick walk to her apartment.
5:55pm and i’m already at her door. is that too early? too desperate?
i knock a few times to let her know i’m here. i could just say i came early so i could see her cats
i looked down twiddling my thumbs, patiently waiting.
“coming!” i heard faintly from her apartment. she opened the door and quickly embraced me.
“kate hi! i just have to feed my cats before we leave so just come in for a minute” she said while frantically trying to feed her cats before they tried jumping into the food. i stepped into her apartment and patiently waited, laughing as her cats were jumping up her legs and meowing.
“you know, i’ve always been a dog person but i love your cats. they are just so adorable and have such a personality” i remarked.
“hah yeah, you can take them whenever. they are the best for cuddling but feeding them is still terrifying” she laughed.
she collected her bag, which i offered to hold, her water bottle and keys. we locked up her apartment and walked down to her car.
“midnights?” we asked in unison, both laughing after realizing we jinxed each other. i adore that she loves taylor swift almost as much as i do. i plugged in my phone to her aux and shuffled the album. as we started driving to our practice gym, i couldn’t help but steal glances at her, imagining what it would be like if we were more than friends, if i wasn’t so scared, i thought. i wouldn’t be afraid to hold her hand or her thigh while one of us drives. i wouldn’t be afraid to kiss her at every red light. i wouldn’t be afraid of love with her.
we pulled into the parking lot and i quickly grabbed both of our bags, and we made our way inside. no one had the practice gym booked for tonight, so it was just us. i put in my code to enter the gym, and we settled our stuff down.
“so.. what are we doing today coach kate” she smiled widely at me. i grinned and grabbed the rack of basketballs, pulling it next to the free throw line.
“well, let’s work on some free throw shots first”.
reader’s pov
after an hour of rebounding for kate and even taking some shots for myself, i decided to line myself up at the free throw line. i was never one to play sports, but i’ve always loved watching them. i’ve always been so jealous of people’s hand-eye coordination, as it never seemed to work for me which led to me burying myself in studies and clubs for years.
i try to fix my form like kate taught me, then launched it.
miss.
again, i grabbed another ball and launched it.
miss.
and again, and again. miss. miss. miss.
kate stifled a laugh watching me, and as i turned to glare at her she put her arms up in surrender.
“here, let me help you. we’ve already gone over this y/n, are you missing on purpose?” she questioned. i shook my head, my breath getting faster the closer she got to me. i faced the basket with the ball in my hands hoping to hide my blush.
“here, move over a little” kate said as she put her hands on my waist, moving me to the right a little. “now put your right hand here, and your left hand here” she said as she guided my hands from behind. all i could focus on was her breath on my neck and how close our bodies were without touching. “now shoot”
straight net.
“see! you can do it! but, can you guard me?” she questioned as she quickly knocked the new ball out of my hands, dribbling away from me.
“kate, of course i can guard you” i laughed chasing after her. we played 1 on 1 for a few minutes, her scoring on me multiple times and me not even able to keep the ball in my hands for more than a minute. as i jumped up to block her shot, i tumbled over her as we both fell to the ground. her arms were quick to grab my waist to ensure i fell on her instead of the hard wood court.
“kate!” i exclaimed laughing, “you could’ve hurt yourself and lisa would have actually hunted me down and killed me!”
we were both laughing as i rolled off of her and laid next to her on the ground. she turned over to look at me with a wide smile. we grabbed each other’s hands as we helped each other up, yet i stumbled into her again.
“a little clumsy tonight aren’t we?” she teased. her hands hesitant to continue holding my waist as we stood centimeters apart.
“i guess you just make me a little nervous” i confidently stated. our eyes stayed locked in for a minute, and for a split second i swore i saw her look at my lips, until she quickly pulled away almost breaking out in a sprint to our bags.
“we should get going, the janitors will be here soon to start locking up” she hurriedly said.
with a heavy sigh, i walked towards the exit grabbing my keys and water bottle as we made our way to the exit.
-
the car ride to the apartment complex was silent. i felt uneasy. is it me? is she just not into me? i thought. as i pulled in to my spot, kate offered to walk me back up to my apartment. the walk was long,
and silent. as i got to my door, i pulled out my key as fast as i could to unlock the door. “thank you for walking me kate, goodnight” i said as i tried rushing into my apartment. before i could shut my door, she put her hand out to hold it open”
“wait y/n,” she hesitated, “there’s been something i’ve been meaning to do for a while now”. kate strides towards me, reaching out to put one hand on my hip and one hand on my check, quickly pulling me up towards her and before i knew it, she kissed me.
she really kissed me.
her lips were soft. i could feel our smiles through the kiss and my heart nearly beating out of my chest, i wonder if she felt it too. kate pulled away first, looking down at me smiling, moving both hands to my cheeks.
“goodnight y/n” she said as she kissed my forehead. she backed away towards the door, and left before i could say a word.
i sheepishly slid my back down the cold wooden front door and made my way down to the floor. between the heat on my cheeks, tingling sensation on my lips, and the sound of my heartbeat thumping through my chest, nothing else in the world mattered in that moment. i delicately brought my finger to my lips, trying to relive the feeling through the sensations. my cheeks were hot and hurting. 'have I ever smiled this big in my life?', I thought. my legs slightly shaking as i slowly got up, making my way through my apartment to my bedroom. everything was bright even with all of my lights off. i sat down at my vanity, staring at myself in the mirror. through the slight shine of the exposed moonlight, i could see the red and pink flush all over my face. my phone buzzed in my sweater pocket.
i had a great time, the text read, see you tmrw for my usual? :)
i held the phone to my chest tightly, feeling the coldness of the screen through my clothes, but nothing else was cold. everything was warm because she kissed me.

The L Word
Pairings: Dean x Reader
Word Count: 1,273
Warnings- Season 5 spoilers
You awoke with a deep gasp, your heart pounding and eyes wide. Sitting up and looking around the room you realize that you’re ok. Sam was asleep on the motel bed next to you, while Dean slept peacefully beside you. His chest rose and fell steadily, and you were more than grateful that you didn’t wake either of the boys up.
This hunt had been particularly difficult, and you knew the boys were exhausted and they needed their sleep. You were also exhausted, but the nightmares that usually occurred stopped you from being able to sleep.
The truth is, you were defeated. You and the Winchester brothers were working non stop and it was beginning to be one hunt after the other without a break and casualty after casualty with more lives lost than saved. It was kind of Sam’s fault that the world was coming to an end, but he received so much backlash from everyone you figured he’s been punished enough.
You couldn’t help but sigh softly and buried your face into your hands, then running your fingers through your scalp in frustration. Tears pricked at your eyes and you tried desperately to hold them back. All you wanted to do was sleep and get some well needed rest.
“Y/n? S’matter?”
You looked to your right to see Dean looking at you with squinty and sleepy eyes. Guilt coursed through you. “M’sorry De. Go back to sleep I’m alright.”
“What happened? Another nightmare?”
You look at him confused but he knew you better than you knew yourself. “We share a bed at every motel we stay in, and when we aren’t staying in a motel we’re living in the car. If you think I don’t know you by now or picked up on the fact that you’re not alright, you’re crazy.”
You quietly sigh, and look to your arms that were holding onto your legs. “You’re right. M’not alright. I haven’t been for some time.”
“I know.” He says teasingly with a smile playing onto his lips and yours did the same. “Do you want to talk about it?”
“No,-” You shook your head. “But..I really should.”
“I know I’m not the best person to talk to or get advice from. Hell, I bottle everything up and explode when I can’t take it anymore, but take it from me. Talking about your issues is way better than letting your mental health go down the drain…”
“I just…I feel like a failure. We’ve lost so many people in the last few years and with everything going on with the apocalypse… I feel like were losing more casualites than actually saving lives..”
The way he was looking at you was making your heart melt. His complete attention was on you, no distractions and every word you spoke you felt more and more comfortable expressing your feelings to him. You should’ve talked to him more, but you were stubborn just like him.
The truth is, your heart belonged to Dean and it always will. You’ve had your fair share of hookups with him and you knew that’s all you would ever get. Let’s face it, hunters don’t get a happy ending and he made it perfectly clear that it was a friends with benefits relationship.
Everytime he got close to someone it ended up in hurt and death. It’s the reason why he and Cassie never worked out, or why he had to walk away from Lisa. He knew he would never be able to get anything real and that’s why it was easy with you. No feelings or strings attached and you knew about the Supernatural so you understood the life.
Everything went well except you broke the number one rule of your friends with benefits relationship. You grew real feelings. Of course you wouldn’t say anything to Dean, because having him as a friend was better than not having him as anything at all.
“I just… I don’t know how to move forward. Trying so hard to save the world everyday and knowing it’s all on our shoulders is putting so much pressure on me. The clock is ticking and we’re running out of time. Jo and Ellen are dead because of us, Bobby can’t walk because of us…at his point I feel as if the world would be a better place without me” Your eyes welled up with tears and you were desperately trying to push them down.
“Hey hey hey, c’mere…” He cooed gently and pulled you into him. You turned to face him and wrapped your arms around his torso while burying your face into the crock of his neck.
He felt the tears sliding against his skin and his heart broke at the silent sobs that racked your body. He was so in love with you and it terrified him. He fell in love with you at the first hello. His past relationships never worked out but he couldn’t hide his adoration for you. He didn’t want to see you get hurt or to lose you so he figured innocent flirting and hooking up would do no harm.
You meant way more to him than just a hookup. He was scared as fuck to tell you especially now. If he told you how he really felt knowing his luck you would die on him tomorrow.
“Sweetheart, you have no idea how wrong you are..” He says softly. “The world would be a worse place without you in it. It would most likely already be destroyed if you weren’t here. No, this isn’t easy and it takes a toll on me too every single day. But I know for a damn fact without you, me, Sam and Bobby..it.. It wouldn’t be half the world it is. No, things aren’t the best with Bobby but unfortunately in our line of work it’s unpredictable and anything can happen at anytime. I really thought I would be dead by now and here I am at 30 alive and kicking. We’re doing our best and I can’t promise that any of us are going to make it through it, but I know for a fact we’re going to stop the apocalypse. If we go down, then we’re going to go down together and swinging…”
Your silent cries turned into tears, which eventually turned into occasional sniffles as he spoke softly. He always knew the right things to say to make you feel better. “Thank you…” You sniffle quietly and he wraps his arms around you tighter.
“I wish our lives were different sweetheart, because I would love to be normal with you…white picket fence with a dog and some kids..”
You look up at him and the amount of vulnerability in his features made your heart flutter. “I want that more than anything too De…I have strong feelings for you and it scares the shit out of me…”
“I, I feel the same way. I want to use the L word so much…because you deserve nothing more than to hear it every day…but I can’t. M’ scared to shit that if I tell you you’ll be taken from me and I can’t…” He took a deep breath.
“It’s okay De. I understand.”
“C’mere.”
You snuggled deep into him as much as you could while burying your face into his neck once more. He placed a kiss to the top of your head while wrapping his arms around you snugly.
“If somehow we do make it out of this…things will be different. I promise.” He spoke and now you had a reason to want to make it through this and live.

Your Love Story Doesn’t Need to Be a Fairytale
Let’s talk about love. Not the Hollywood version with perfectly timed rain kisses and dramatic airport chases. Not the TikTok version with carefully curated couple challenges and matching outfits. Let’s talk about real love — the kind that doesn’t always make for a good movie but makes for a good life.
Here’s the truth we need to stop running from: The Notebook lied to us. So did Pretty Woman, Twilight, and every other romance that made us think love needs to be extraordinary to be worthwhile.
Your love story doesn’t need a dramatic beginning. You don’t need to hate each other first. No one needs to climb a Ferris wheel or write 365 letters. You don’t need to be star-crossed, torn apart by fate, or reunited after years of pining. Sometimes, love is just two people who met on a dating app getting coffee, liked each other enough to get a second coffee, and kept choosing each other, day after day.
We’ve been sold this idea that if love isn’t painful, it’s not deep enough. If it’s not complicated, it’s not real enough. If it doesn’t hurt, it’s not strong enough.
What a load of nonsense.
Your partner doesn’t need to be the most interesting person in every room. They don’t need to have a tragic backstory or be mysteriously broken in a way that only your love can fix. They don’t need to write you poetry or plan elaborate surprises or fight their entire family to be with you.
Sometimes, real love looks like:
Someone remembering how you like your coffee
Netflix nights where you both fall asleep fifteen minutes in
Grocery shopping together on a Sunday afternoon
Taking care of each other during stomach flu
Sharing leftovers and splitting bills
Supporting each other’s small wins
Being boring together and completely okay with it
No one’s making movies about couples who spend their Saturday nights doing laundry together. You won’t see viral TikToks about partners who respect each other’s sleep schedules. Instagram isn’t interested in the couple who communicates clearly and resolves conflicts calmly.
But guess what? Those are the relationships that last.
The most beautiful love stories I know aren’t beautiful because they’re extraordinary. They’re beautiful because they’re real. Because both people show up, day after day, choosing each other even when it’s not exciting. Even when it’s not post-worthy. Even when it’s just ordinary life with an ordinary person who makes that ordinary life better.
Your relationship doesn’t need:
A dramatic “how we met” story
Constant butterflies
Grand gestures
Overwhelming passion
Life-changing moments
Picture-perfect dates
Epic declarations of love
What it needs is:
Mutual respect
Open communication
Shared values
Genuine care
Consistent effort
Trust
Growth
Peace
Stop waiting for someone to love you in a way that would make a good movie. Start appreciating someone who loves you in a way that makes a good life.
Because here’s what they don’t show in romantic movies: the real love, the kind that lasts, happens in the quiet moments. In the mundane. In everyday choices to be kind, to be present, to be understanding.
The most romantic thing isn’t someone chasing you through an airport. It’s someone making space for you in their life, consistently and without drama. It’s someone choosing to work through problems instead of creating them for the sake of passion. It’s someone who makes you feel safe instead of excited.
Your love story is valid even if no one would want to watch it in theaters.
Your relationship is real even if it wouldn’t get a million likes on social media.
Your connection matters even if it wouldn’t fill a journal with intense emotions.
So let go of the fairytale.
Let go of The Notebook.
Let go of the idea that epic means better.
Because sometimes the best love stories aren’t the ones that make your heart race — they’re the ones that make your heart feel at home.
And that’s not settling. That’s growing up.
