It only makes sense that the staff of the school is yandere material, too. The students may rush to help and insist they've got it under control, but the school nurse will be quick to act. It's the chance of a lifetime, having you to himself, and for longer than the usual standard checkup. The curtains are pulled, and the "do not disturb" sign is flipped. Your injuries are not to be taken lightly. You'll need to spend all day under his supervision.

The parents and all relatives are indeed platonic yanderes! I thought it'd be a nice touch since I've never approached the trope before.

The tying up incident was actually an exception to what I originally planned, haha. For most of the competitions, darling yandere will guide (Y/N) and aid them for a flawless win. That's the comedy of it: he's indirectly doing the yandere part while trying to be discreet enough as to not alert the other yanderes. Additionally, (Y/N) helps him with the darling tasks. Though that part is very much expected by everyone from school. The Daring Academy teachers are probably observing the activities, baffled. "Who the hell is that student? What skill...what obliviousness. They should've applied to us."

If you’re comfortable with this concept, (since it’s a school-based series I don’t know if the reader and yanderes are minors are not, if they are then you don’t have to write this.) but obviously the students of the Yandere Academy are going to need to learn how to tie up their darlings once they’ve been captured. Would you mind writing a little blurb about it since Reader is the unofficially assigned darling stand-in for their classes? - Anonymous

This is the ask I used for the tying up idea in Part 3! To answer your worries, all of my stories involve 18+ characters! Just wanted to clear it up for anyone in doubt. The school/academy setup is more of a college/university kind of institution. I do love a good high school setup, but not for self insert romance.

I’d imagine that there’s a drama class at the yandere school to help the students learn how to act and seem innocent. What if they put on a musical or something like Phantom of the Opera (because of course it would be that) and reader got the role of Christine or the equivalent. Imagine all the yanderes fighting for the role of their love interests to get the excuse to kiss them, and other yanderes trying to sabotage them as tactfully as possible to keep the show going, but replace the leads to be alongside reader. Think that may be something cool to add/write about? No pressure of course! - Anonymous

You know the whole thing is going to turn into a ninja survival shitshow. They had hoped to never cast (Y/N) in any role, for everyone's safety. And for the most part, (Y/N) thankfully never showed any interest in the drama club.

The supervising teacher held (Y/N)'s application form with trembling hands. It seems their little club had finally run out of luck.

Worst part: the school can't even rely on the teachers. They're just as desperate to see their cute little (Y/N) perform on stage. "Maybe this job is too overwhelming for one person, sensei..." they'll smugly tell the original supervisor. "We could divide some tasks. Someone else could train (Y/N), for example..."

ok here me out, what if there is like a field trip or sports festival kind of thing where the Yandere and Darling academy meet up. Basically where a Yandere and a darling are made to pair up to go through the numerous activities (maybe ones that test their yandere/darling skills) so reader decides to pair up with clumsy Yandere ( who is in Darling academy) much to the displeasure of Yandere classmate. This was a little trippy to read, because it came right after part 3, haha. Which I feel is basically the same plot. Though it would be interesting to see how it'd play out if the stranger was Reader's best friend instead.

Reader excitedly approaches Clumsy!Yandere and asks him to work together, to the dismay of all other students. They're enraged. You can see it plainly: their hands tremble, their jaws are clenched, their eyes have a psychotic glint. Poor Clumsy!Yandere is in constant shivers, unaware of the death stares. You're cheerfully guiding him around, his hand in yours, happy to see your friend again.

I saw something in the fandom that made me upset and I need to rant about it. It’ll be below the cut so I don’t clog up people’s dashes!

I cropped the name off of this post because I am not trying to start drama, but I found this under the “Matt Murdock x Reader” tag and found it INCREDIBLY disheartening to go through to comments/reblogs and see how many people agreed.

I am in no way trying to dispute the fact that fandom spaces and self-insert fanfiction is heavily white washed/influenced by white writers. As a white woman myself, I catch many little slip ups in my own work that make my writing less accessible than I want it to be. I understand being frustrated that there aren’t many stories where you feel your appearance has been considered.

However: fanfiction, fanart, gif making and coloring, edits, and other forms of fan-made-content are usually completely free to access. No one is entitled to them—they are a privilege, not a right. Which means that people are allowed to write whatever characters they want, even if it’s not completely unique or what you want to read.

My issue is with OP’s critiques of weak/feminine/sweet/innocent readers and the way they voiced their opinion (again, not disputing the appearance stuff). I know that many readers are sweet or innocent, but as someone who is rarely given the space to be the “damsel in distress” so to speak, I enjoy writing characters who are taken care of and protected. Regardless of my or any other writer’s reasoning for writing the characters this way, we are allowed to do that. It’s our fucking work.

If you don’t like something, no one is forcing you to read it. If you notice a lack of fics that appeal to you, write some yourself. It is inconsiderate to chastise people spending hours of their free time to give you content that you can enjoy just because it’s not exactly what you want to see.

Also, don’t threaten to block me if you don’t like how I write. Just block me. It is your responsibility to curate an enjoyable experience on this app, not everyone else’s.

In summary: I am not trying to say that fandom is perfect or inclusive or that critiques of my writing aren’t welcome. This person can have whatever opinions they like and are welcome to post them on their blog. I would just like to point out that the delivery could’ve been more polite and that authors don’t need to change the plots/characters’ personalities they write just because others aren’t happy with the outcome.

ROLEPLAY PSYCHOLOGY: PASSIVE AGGRESSION

Passive aggression harms relationships, causes unnecessary negative feelings all around, and is inefficient. It shows up in many forms, and we’ve all participated in it and have been subjected to it.

Strategies to identify when you’re being passive aggressive, and non-scary ways to broach issues directly.

Scripts to tackle issues head on when a writing partner is being passive aggressive toward you.

Examples of passive aggressive behavior between RP partners.

If you’ve been collaboratively writing for any length of time, chances are you’ve met passive aggressive individuals in the Internet wastes. The roleplaying community is rife with them. If you’re not sure, see if any of the following sound familiar:

“It’s fine,” when things are, in fact, not fine. Even through text, the tone can often be perceived as a little flat — a little cool. It’s meant to subtly suggest you make changes/go with their preference without directly communicating that this is what they want. Sometimes, they don’t even communicate what it is they do want; you’re meant to figure it out.

You’ve done something they didn’t like. Maybe you turned down an idea, or maybe you took longer than usual to reply to their post. Now you’re getting the silent treatment OOC, or receiving unusually flat and monosyllabic responses. When you do ask if everything’s okay/what’s wrong, chances are you’re getting, “It’s fine,” and, “nothing.”

They punish you IC after a conversation they disliked happens OOC. For example, a character who was flirting with yours might turn suddenly sour/critical in the very next post after you mention your character being romantically unavailable in an OOC conversation. Alternatively, you shoot down an idea they proposed, so they kill off their character without consulting with you.

Passive aggression comes in many forms, and we’ve all been subjected to it. Surely we have all been passive aggressive at some point, too.

While it can seem easier in many situations to be passive aggressive until the other person’s behavior changes, all it really does is harm relationships and stretch out undue negativity.

When you spot passive aggression, you should call it out. This doesn’t necessarily mean you say, “Hey, I see you being passive aggressive. Cut it out.” It might look more like, “I feel like you’re upset with me. Can we talk about it?”

By the same token, we should be vigilant about our own behaviors and have the self-awareness to catch when we’re inclined to be passive aggressive. It’s an easy behavior to fall into! Who hasn’t gotten short with a friend? Who hasn’t given the silent treatment in hopes of receiving an apology we didn’t have to spell out?

But it’s poor communication, and it does nothing to strengthen your bond with the other person. It doesn’t help build social skills. It’s inefficient.

When you feel inclined to indirectly communicate your annoyance, freeze. It may be wise to step away from the keyboard/put the phone down for a moment and sit with what you’re feeling. Often bad behavior happens when we react too quickly to a stimulus.

After looking at the situation logically, come up with a script to directly broach the topic. You might also realize it’s not worth being angry about in the first place! For example, if a partner turned down an idea you proposed, you might feel disappointed and want to convey it with short, unsatisfying OOC banter. You might put your character in a bad mood or insert angst into the plot abruptly. However, after giving it some time and thought… aren’t they allowed to politely turn down an idea? Haven’t you turned ideas down? Wouldn’t you rather they turn it down than agree to it and half-ass replies because they didn’t want to go that route in the first place?

It’s better for your hindsight, better for your relationship with your writing partner, and better for you to step back and allow yourself to feel disappointed. Deal with it in healthy ways. You can try writing up an ad for an RP with someone who will fulfill that idea. (Slap yourself on the hand if you think to do this as a way to get back at your current partner, or in hopes they’ll see they can be replaced!) Write a one-shot about it, etc.

If you feel they’re in the wrong after taking a moment to reflect — let’s say they always shoot your ideas down, and the RP tends to only be about what they want — you should start a conversation. It is better to be direct, and being direct doesn’t mean being aggressive or hostile.

“Hey, can we talk about the RP for a minute? I appreciate how honest you are with me when you don’t want to go with the ideas I bring up for our story. I also value you as a writing partner, which is why I want to bring this up instead of letting it continue to nag at me: it feels like we always go with your ideas. The last few I’ve had, you’ve turned down. I don’t want you to feel obliged to write things you’re not interested in, but I’m hoping we can come to a compromise on this. Can I get your thoughts?”

Direct, but not hostile. Not accusatory. Not scary! It allows the issue to be handled with no guess-work, and makes it far more likely you’ll see actual changes.

You can use the same strategy when they’re being passive aggressive with you.

“Hey, I notice you’re not being as talkative as you usually are, and you’ve told me everything is fine. I’ll take you at your word, but I just want to make sure you know I welcome you to bring stuff up with me directly. I would rather communicate than continue to upset you without realizing it. If something is wrong, I hope you’ll tell me so I can fix it/stop doing it/come up with a compromise.”

DANDADAN OC

Meet Minoan! She’s my dandadan self insert oc. Now that the anime is out I’ll actually have an audience for this kinds of stuff, so yayyy! I know allot of people have problems with self insert oc’s but she’s not bothering you so don’t bother her.

She’s a Foreign exchange student from the US, and she has a black and pink snake named Cherry vanilla coke (yes that’s what she named her snake get over it) She was possessed by Nure-Onna type of yokai, and her powers allow her to emit a poisonous gas, and make venom. She can also make illusions, to trick her enemies. She best as a supporter like Rin (class president), but she doesn’t have many offensive moves. She does have many rows of teeth that can rotate into something kinda like a chainsaw, but she can also form these teeth on other parts of her body.

Scince he’s my favorite character and I love him, I’m shipping her with Zuma. I’m gonna give them a forced proximity trope, even though we haven’t seen him scince the end of the board game arch, I don’t know if he’s gonna become a main side character but if he does, they’ll be together allot.

I think at first they would’ve care much for each other, but over time they become close friends then more, like most romances. I’m still making her but her fighting style will complement Zumas, so even they’re attacked they’ll usually be together.

I hope we get to see zuma more because in the 30 something chapters we saw him, I fell in love.<3 thx for reading. Mwa!

I've been pretty curious about the LO Critical side. I'm asking genuinely but what are the reasons why LO has such a strong anti Fandom.

Do people not like it? I was curious because it seems like a lot of lo critical/anti lo blogs seem to enjoy certain aspects and characters. Is it the author people don't enjoy?

Like I said I'm really being genuine. I think people have the right to have like their own critical space for a free webcomic. It's just interesting because it's like. This Fandom has a second Fandom of people who seem to hate the comic.

The anti community for any fandom is sure to be a complex place that’s usually, in my experience, more built on pain and disappointment than anything else. Pain because something important to you no longer provides comfort, maybe even perpetrates harmful themes for your own personal experiences, and disappointment because this is something you used to love and you wish could be better.

There’s two parts of the anti community for LO. There’s one part that, as you said, still holds some affection for the series, for memories attached to it and for some characters. There’s also another part that, again as you said, straight up just hate it.

I’ll briefly touch on the first part. They can see so clearly how LO could be infinitely better and that’s frustrating. They can see all the flaws they didn’t notice or didn’t want to see before and are exasperated by why it’s allowed to continue this way. Let’s not forget that a significant number of LO’s critics are people who were young teens and read it in their formative years without realising what they were being so carelessly exposed to.

With that realisation, there’s a level of anger and horror at learning what was put in front of them, marketed as safe and heavily promoted at every turn, and it’s only gotten worse over time. That must be an absolutely gut-wrenching thing to feel over something you loved once.

So in that sense, you’re correct; a big part of the anger comes down to Rachel herself and her choices.

Then there’s the other part of the anti fandom, the part that just out and out hates it and always has. This is where yours truly fits in.

Now, I was super active on tumblr during 2014-2017, when fandoms like Steven Universe, FNAF and Undertale were at their peak. I had to learn, trial by fire, how to be real critical of any media I consumed. There is certainly a downside to this, I tend to see the negatives of anything I enjoy first and then find positives later. The upside is it’s certainly been one helluva way to improve my media literacy and spot the bs from a mile away.

A lot of people don’t believe when I say I got skeevy, uncomfortable, gross vibes from LO from chapter one, but I did. I don’t know what it was, but it set me off so bad that I couldn’t get past “her butt is shaped like a heart” and never read it again.

Now I’m willing to admit that this part of the fandom, like me, are the way we are because we were never the target demographic for LO.

Therefore, when it came out and got popular, we were the ones who were absolutely baffled and the ones who got dog piled and called every name under the sun by fans for a long time…that is, of course, until a lot of those fans grew up, realised what they were reading and turned on the series.

As I said, the critical side of any fandom is complicated and this is just my two cents.

I could do a much longer post about how fucking angry I am at Rachel personally for the fact she’s from my country, a country who constantly gets ignored, and given this amazing chance that so many of us wish we could have, yet chose to peddle her self insert x celebrity crush jailbait fantasy.

I could talk all day about how physically sickened I am that she’s taken so many aspects of trauma experiences by myself and millions of others and used it as ignorant, glamourised, fetishised shock-material.

I could go on at length about what a racist, misogynistic, homophobic piece of baggage she is and how she’s permanently done damage to another culture while completely misrepresenting ours…but I won’t.

I’ll just draw more mean art of Persephone’s giant lips and Hades accidentally letting the air out of them with his mosquito nose instead.

What’s Rachel going to do? Draw a goofy, technicolor caricature of me in her comic that’ll blend into the background, be only half finished and look like a recoloured Persephone in her otherwise pristine and totally professional looking masterpiece that’s definitely not losing readers? Oh wait—

PLEASE DROP SOME FANFIC RECS!!

As most people that have followed me for a while know, I don’t really read that many fics, and the ones I have I’ve mostly recommended in my fic recs tag before.

BUT a great one to mention today is A Tale of Spirits by @unorthodoxx-page since I did sit and read the entire thing yesterday. Mostly because my friend Jin did multiple pieces of art for it and they tend to have banger taste that has yet to lead me astray.

Quick overview of the fic before my thoughts is it is an Avatar the Last Airbender and Rise of the TMNT crossover, with the synopsis noted as such:

“We do not know of your brothers, Great Spirit,” Zuko answered, stuttering more like it. “I’m sorry we could not be of more service.”

The spirit frowned and stood up. “That’s weird, we were just together.”

There was a shift and Uncle’s head came up. They stared at this strange spirit. It turned its back to them and Zuko was breathless at the show of disregard. Figures a spirit would not consider him a threat. He shouldn’t take it personally, but he’s been dismissed his whole life. He’s tired of it. A hand gripped his trembling one and he takes a breath. There is no use getting upset over the ways of a spirit. They both studied its small form and Zuko was caught by its profile. The spirit’s back held three repeating and somewhat glowing symbols. It curved in a familiar motion.

“A turtle,” Uncle whispered.

The arrival of four great spirits changes everything.

I’m usually not the type to read crossover fics at all because it TENDS to start feeling like part of the isekai genre where whatever character(s) falls into the other world gets their personality suppressed in order to function as a conduit or self insert for the reader. This fic does something really clever where it easily avoids this by making all POV characters (so far) atla characters and makes the turtles seamlessly blend into the usual spirit oddities Aang and crew faces during the show. I feel like most people would have done the opposite, so this was a really neat framing use that is a personal touch I really enjoyed!

I also was a big fan of what characters got paired together and why; it really helps explore different sides of both the atla characters and the turtles. Mikey and Zuko was not a combo I expected but I’m definitely enjoying it! Azula and Donnie has to be another favorite.

Also it looks like the author releases chapters on a weekly occurrence? She has my fear and respect, that’s the one thing I’m really concentrating at improving in my own creative pursuits is output speed.

Hello everyone, I’m Lady Azulina 💙 Just Azu around these parts. I have been thinking about doing an introduction since I started diving into the Writeblr community who knows how long ago—certainly not me. But I wasn’t able to decide where to start. I still don’t know, but I believe that even the smallest attempt can be a great step, so here we go—I mean, I. Here I go. I really want to make this space something safe for me. For me to vent. For me to share. For me to be me even when I don’t know how to be me. I tried Instagram. I tried Twitter. Now I’m consciously trying Tumblr. Let’s see how this goes.

2-1: My pronouns are she / her. I’m also cis. And as far as I know, I’m hetero, but I haven’t had the opportunity to test my sexuality, so I can’t be totally sure. Why I’m telling all of it? I don’t even know! Don’t mind me.

2: The sun has gone around twenty-four times since I was born. I’m from winter. Like, an-early-Christmas-gift type. By five days only. I was supposed to be born in February, but I think I didn’t want to celebrate my birthday with the rest of the family. So it was Christmas. Sadly.

2+1: I'm legally a Sagittarius, but heartily I don't know where I fit. Sagittarius sun, Capricorn moon, and Aquarius rising.

2x2: I LOVE personality tests. For the majority of my life, I was INFP-T, but the last result says I am ISFP-T. My Enneagram type is a solid 4, a light 9. My color personal test is serulian (#9bb7d4).

2x2+2: I think I have a record of every writing in all these years (goddess, it will be twelve years soon).

2x2x2+1: I’m also a creature of fiction. Each word that comes out of my fingers is fiction. Be wary, I’m talking here about my writing, I can turn my life into a work of fiction, but it is not! Sadly.

2x2x2+2: On the topic of fiction, excepting a few self-insert (usually coming out in form of micro-stories), all I write and have ever written is absolutely and totally… fiction. Gezh, believe me, I was also looking for another completely unsuspecting word to get you all there, but I went b l a n k. You all know about it, don’t you?

12-1: I'm a fantasy-setup type of girl. I think I decided that with my very first novel, full of fantasy creatures. Though I haven't been writing there for a while, it's still one of my primary genres. I also like paranormal stuff, not in a very big matter, but its participation is still appreciated.

12: I love mysteries, and I think I’m trying to write one, but I do not try to solve them. My head wouldn’t forgive me if I try to push it so hard. On the same topic, I enjoy detective series.

12+1: I found my hidden love for (writing) action scenes thanks to a specific character. I'm still trying my ways because I don't get to write with her as much as I would like.

12+2: Other than the ones I've already mentioned, I'm pretty bad at identifying genres or tropes, so I won't be doing that. If you recognize any in my writings, please point them out to me! That way I can add them to the tags and so on.

12+2+1: For a while, I was roleplaying in forums, so I think I can say I have fics from Digimon, Pokemon, Sword Art Online, and My Hero Academia. Needless to say, I'm trying to turn all their stories into original ones; I can talk about them whenever.

12+2+2: I always create characters in pairs because I don’t want them to feel lonely like I do, though it doesn’t mean they’re romantic pairs.

12+2+2+1: I’m pretty in love with the blue color, hence my name, its lighter tones especially.

12+2+2+2: My real-real name is also a blue color! I think I’m unbiased from birth.

20-1: I’m a Caribbean Latin lady, my first language is Spanish. I would love the second one to be Sign Language, but I think it really is English.

20: I started studying (in college) Maths, but it didn’t work. I shifted to English, but it’s not working either.

20+1: My alter ego is an editor, proofreader, and writing coach, I can serve as the mediator, and as a way of trying her services as a beta reader.

22: I think it’s already obvious, but my favorite number is 2. The 02, 20, and 22 also work. 12 just because it’s my birthday month, but it also has a 2!

Oh thanks for asking 💜 I’m gonna put my rambling under a cut.

19. Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going?

I have been reading fanfic since I was about twelve, starting with LotR, but the earliest thing I really remember writing were these stories about this group of online-turned-offline friends that I had when I was fifteen. We all wrote a different ‘alternate universe’ versions of our little group going on some adventure. In hindsight, the stories were relatively cringey and obviously full of inside jokes, but to put it in cliche terms, it ignited a spark. Around that same time I read a really popular HP/marauders fanfic that actually inspired me to read the HP books and then I was brave enough/inspired to write my first fanfics. At first I wrote something that I thought people would want to read (in my own language) so I tried writing stuff like Sirius/Remus, and I was so used to constant praise for my writing (because my readers were all my friends) that it started to feel fake almost. Eventually I just wanted to write something that nobody I knew would ever see, so I chose a username nobody would think to connect to me, started writing in English and wrote something I actually wanted to write which was a self-indulgent, practically self-insert OC romance fic. Cringe, maybe. But so much fun.

So I’ve been writing on and off for nearly 18 years, mostly off, and you don’t even need all your fingers and toes to count the things I’ve finished. I’m not the most productive. It’s the same as with any hobby; I get really into it for a while and then eventually it fizzles out. I take breaks that last months, years even. I am at a point where I don’t know if I’ll ever call myself a good writer, but there are certain parts of my writing that I actually really love. For the first time I’m also writing with intent and not just making stuff up as I go along and I want to challenge myself a little more, exploring some darker themes etc.

22. How organized are you with your writing? Describe to me your organization method, if it exists. What tools do you use? Notebooks? Binders? Apps? The Cloud?

Not very. I am generally an organized person, but when I write I put the whole story and everything related to that into one Google Doc. I can’t stand having to switch between documents or having anything separate.

24. How much prep work do you put into your stories? What does that look like for you? Do you enjoy this part or do you just want to get on with it?

Honestly? Not enough probably. When I have an idea for a story, it can be anything from one scene that evolves into something entirely different or a whole story arc that just appears out of thin air. Like, Kendall/Avery literally started off as ‘Kendall meets a girl in rehab and has sex with her’ and was meant to be a one shot. And Lukas/Gia came to me sort of fully formed late at night. My plans are usually very short, just a quick list of things that happen in each chapter. Since I write exclusively romance/smut/relationships, I start writing from the point where the characters meet because that’s usually very clear in my mind, and then I write a bunch of unrelated scenes that I have already imagined taking place. Eventually I backtrack to the actual beginning and try to write chronologically, but it’s a lot of back and forth and connecting these scattered scenes with each other. But there is always a plan, even if it is constantly evolving it doesn’t fundamentally change, and I always know what I’m writing towards. So basically, no, I don’t do a lot of prep work, but while I’m writing I’m working on the entire story at once. I also don’t like prep work, but it is helpful and it keeps me in check.

Back when I did zero planning, I started writing and posting a Bucky Barnes/OC story chapter by chapter and it went off the rails a little bit and eventually turned into a Tony Stark/OC story which… made sense and it was kind of like the characters had a life of their own, but obviously that wasn’t what my readers had signed up for. If I had a plan, maybe that wouldn’t have happened or I would’ve realized it was inevitable while planning. Idk. That story was/is 130k words and technically I never finished or wanted it to end where it did, but I lost interest and a few years later I came back to it to see that it had run its course and the ending actually kind of worked as ‘the finale.’ Sometimes I have a hard time ending things; a plan helps with that.

32. What is a line from a poem/novel/fanfic etc that you return to from time and time again? How did you find it? What does it mean to you?

“You all know, don’t you, that if people are frightened very often, they sometimes become invisible.”

From the short story The Invisible Child by Tove Jansson. And I don’t know if it’s this line specifically, but off the top of my head this is a story that comes to mind as something that has held meaning for me since I was young and now again as a parent. It’s about Ninny, who has literally turned invisible due to living with her child-hating, abusive aunt. In a nutshell: she comes to live with the Moomin family, finds respect and love and learns to speak for herself. In many ways I relate to Ninny a lot and I think somewhere along the way I overcorrected and instead of being invisible, people pleasing and afraid I became almost confrontational and too tough. Inside I will always be Ninny, though.

most active muse :  right now i'm writing beatriz and elena in two different threads each but it's not so much the muse that makes me more active but the plots with others. i have a lot of muse for many of my currently unwritten characters, they just need to find the perfect plot and opposite!

experience / how many years : i’ve started roleplaying on tumblr in 2011, so way too long ago. i did some on myspace around 2009, so 14 years in total. i discovered roleplaying late in life, like in my early 20′s, which seems unlike many others who started as teenagers. 

best experience : i don’t think i’ve had one experience that stood from the rest and had me go all, this is my best rp experience, but i’ve had many great moments and memories over the years. group wise, i currently really miss retaliationrp because there was so much more to do with the plots and characters. but this run as indie is my best one yet. i feel like i’ve found my people, i have amazing plots and they are all very diverse. the balance i have right now makes it really perfect.

rp pet peeves : over-formatting. it’s cool if that’s your thing, but it’s not mine and it makes it hard for me to get into it. the many spaces, the random use of italic or bold, it’s not for me. overly purple prose too, it makes me not get into what the other is writing. i think we tend to over cancel faceclaims too, we interpret what people we don’t know mean and form some very strong and black and white opinions on that. this doesn’t apply for the people who have done actual shitty and disgusting things, but we nitpick too much what stranger say. also, blogs that are all cis het white woman because that’s what they knew and they want to write what they know and yet, they’re all actress/singers/models/vampires/etc. at least be honest about what it’s about.

fluff, angst, or smut : angst all the way. i can do fluff only so long, generally with the intent of having a lot of angst after. smut can be fun once in a while but not if there’s nothing established behind it. if we’re having a strong plot that has been develop and you want to try some smut, i’m open to it but not without it serving the plot and characters. i live for the angst.

plots or memes : plots. i like having a direction and sometimes things are plotted as we go and develop but there need to be a little something when the thread starts. from there, memes are fine, because it can serve to develop more. i find myself less and less interested in open starters unless we plot something before replying or we talk about the characters a little to see where it could go.

long or short replies : both, with a tendency toward longer. i like to had context and backstory to the thread which also means i can be slower to reply because sometimes these take a lot more out of me. i do like the shorter replies too and sometimes wish i had more but i tend to ruin that by then rambling.

time to write : late in the evening, after 9pm and sometimes during the day. i do a lot of replying planning in my head during the day. i’m currently on sick leave so i often draft during the day, but usually, it’s work, motherhood and then whatever time is life to write.

are you like your muses : i think i would like some parts of me to be more like certain muses and some will use my sense of humour or view on things but outside of that, i enjoy trying to create entirely new personas and characters. i think we all put some little parts of ourselves in our characters but none are ‘self-inserts’.

..My answers got a bit long; I hope that this is alright.

3. how do the other characters generally feel about your self-insert? - Suspicious, is generally the first thing! Lorenza does tend to carry herself with as much decorum and proper manners as she can, so there’s less of the typical revilement that I imagine most voidsent tend to generate. Even so, it’s pretty clear from the outset that she is not an ordinary individual, even if I do imagine that she glamours a lot of her less human traits (like her wings..) to avoid as much suspicion - so there would still be a lot of speculation. The company she keeps is generally sufficient to stave off any outright accusations, but I do imagine that even said company would be wary at first. After all, with her intelligence, who knows what she could really be planning? And nobody trusts people tied to the Darkness, not when their only frame of reference for that is the Ascians.

By the end of the story, though, I like to think that she definitely earns a place of respect among the Scions, particularly the more academically-inclined. She very much proves that the extent of her motives is to keep herself safe and sated - she has no interest in or intention to harm Eorzea as a whole, and becomes happier to accompany the others in their endeavours once they give her a chance. So, what started out as a general sentiment of “how do we know you’re not on their side” and then became “I’m glad you’re on our side” has now shifted into a more genuine “I’m glad you’re with us”. I don’t think many people are aware that she’s a princess until after Endwalker, but they probably won’t think of her differently for it (or just think it explains a lot about how she carries herself), because it isn’t like she’s been lording it over them all the whole time. So, it works out!

5. does your self-insert have any special powers or abilities? - Lorenza is quite magically capable, especially since coming to the Source and having much more ready access to enough aether to cast spells with (which is part of why she’s able to maintain a form of glamour on herself to stop people constantly making a big deal of her wings and things). As a voidsent who has dwelled on the Thirteenth since before it became the void it is now, she is quite used to being aether-starved, so the fact that she can still weave strong sorcery is a testament to her own power and ability to be efficient with aether.

In terms of other abilities, I do like to think that she can fly or at least float, but it would be very taxing (and the size of her wings fluctuates a lot over the story anyway), plus she often draws from ambient environmental aether when in combat to help her out, so she almost never goes very high off the ground. An exception would be the first time she shows that she can do this, which is in Dun Scaith. She can also possess vessels, including whoever she makes a pact with (which includes K’pheli, Clio, or Tsutsuji depending on verse) - but she does not use this ability often, nor maliciously. She likes her own form, thank you very much!

6. does your self-insert have any pets? - Well.. Lorenza is usually accompanied by a little wind-up succubus doll that floats around and sometimes investigates or chuckles at things in her vicinity. Since it looks like a miniature toy form of actual succubi, but also seems to act of its own accord in a way that implies it isn't just a wind-up doll after all, many would be inclined to draw the conclusion that it is Lorenza's pet of sorts, in the same way that one might think of a mage's familiar as a pet.

This would not be quite correct!

The "wind-up succubus" is just as real of a succubus as any you might encounter as an enemy in-game; more specifically, she is what remains of an actual real succubus who unfortunately had almost her entire essence consumed by other voidsent, leaving her in a vastly reduced form. It's possible that, if provided with enough aether, she could regain a larger form.. but that still wouldn't restore her full humanity, and she seems content enough to stay hanging around on Lorenza's shoulder anyway. So, while she isn't a pet, she is technically what comes closest.

(Unless I do something with the black-plumed birds, that is.)

Week in Review

Sunday

I have a tradition on Sundays I like to call, unimaginatively, Manga Sundays, where I catch up on all the manga I follow on the Manga Plus app.

MamaYuyu has unique and interesting panelling as always, but I’m not sure if the story can stand on its own.

Handsome Must Die is just stupid fun and I’m glad that the nice looking kid flipped the bird and that the evil kid is getting his proper redemption arc.

Undead Unluck is fantastic, and I love that Latla and Rip share the leg weapon now – this feels like one of the first big shifts in a character setting we’ve seen this loop, other than everyone avoiding/circumventing their tragedies, which are a given.

The Ichinose Family has completely lost me, but at least the emotional moments still come through clearly – Taizan 5 definitely has a flair for melodrama (this isn’t a dig).

The power stats in the Oshi no Ko are fun, and the last page was definitely impactful.

Dandadan is as chaotic as usual, and I can’t wait to see what supernatural or sci-fi or who even knows at this point power up the Class Rep gets from being caught up in this friend group. I loved her vampire fantasies, they felt very true to what a teenage girl would write self-insert fanfics about. I do wish Momo and Okarun would get together already, but that’ll probably have to wait until after this new ghost themed arc.

Marriagetoxin is alright, I’m glad to have a romance themed chapter again after all those action chapters I skimmed through. Erina is a cute little boss.

Magilumiere’s new shady private investor character is fine, I like his design but I don’t really care about his investing strategy when I already know him joining the team is a foregone conclusion.

Akane-banashi is a series I keep up with purely because it’s about rakugo (and I like Karashi), but it’s never really grabbed me despite being about a topic I enjoy. I don’t know, most of the art is pretty whatever to me, and its attempts to make rakugo seem interesting don’t interest me, even though I already like rakugo. I have no idea how it has captured the attention of the typical Shounen Jump crowd, but I suppose I’ll be grateful for it since I’m invested in the wellbeing of rakugo as an art form.

One Piece…I’ll admit that I don’t really know what’s going on in One Piece anymore, since I can’t keep track of all the characters and politics and powers straight in my head and I tend to just skim chapters until something cool happens. The old man spider looks cool, though I have no earthly idea why he’s so revered and feared. Eventually I’ll pick up the anime again – I’ll probably retain things better when I watch them as whole arcs at a time. (I also want to rewatch Water 7/Enies Lobby…)

And finally, I always leave Cipher Academy for last on Manga Sundays, because I love Cipher Academy soooooo much. I love all the characters, all the character designs, the puzzles, the art, the Nisioisin-isms, the list goes on. The first Tayutan vs Iroha Code Battle absolutely blew my mind and I felt a renewed love for the comics medium, so I’ve been hooked ever since. This chapter was really fun: I feel a little proud of myself for seeing through the ‘trick’ this time, even though it was pretty blatantly telegraphed with the close up on the arrow. Nohime is also looking gorgeous as usual, and I’m happy to get some lore about her. And of course Byu is checking out the tables for hiding spots. I wonder if Iroha and/or Shitsuke let the bomb explode to open a hole down into the lower floors? Feels very Stardew Valley Skull Cavern to me.

My friend and I have been watching House M. D. together over Discord – she’s watching for the first time while I’m rewatching. Today we finished off S3, and none of the episodes left a particularly deep impression on me. I’m going to miss the Chase Foreman Cameron team though.

Monday

The new Make Some Noise episode is okay, I’m not really vibing with the prompts…but I always enjoy seeing Jacob Wysocki, he’s one of my favourite Dropout cast members.

More House M.D. – the competition style arc at the start of S4 is pretty fun, but the medical mysteries are not interesting me in the slightest. The House/Wilson moments are great though.

I tried watching the first episode of Ascendance of a Bookworm, and it’s cute enough, but the low production quality is a pretty big turn off…I think I’m just going to read the manga. But this means that Fall 2019 gets a whopping 0 shows in my Anime by Season statistics, which is a far cry from the 14 shows of Spring 2016 (then again, I was in high school at the time, which meant that I had more free time and lower standards). Also yes…I’m so far behind on anime that I’m still working through 2019 shows…

Tuesday

Started the day off with the latest Chainsaw Man chapter, since I’ll get spoilers on Twitter if I left it until Manga Sunday. I would love to be a Devil Name Consultant.

Read through the first part of the Ascendance of a Bookworm manga. I like how tiny and cute Myne is, and these types of isekai stories where the protagonist uses their knowledge of modern technology to advance in society are just about the only kind of isekai I can tolerate. It’s a bit silly that she just happens to know all these handicrafts from doing things with her mom though. I think they could’ve just explained it with her already established book obsession. It’s interesting that she revealed her true self to Lutz so early – I haven’t read a lot of isekai but it doesn’t seem like this is a common trope. Usually it seems like the protagonist assimilates easily into their new world and has fun adventures, but this is an interesting development to their relationship. I also love the business wheeling and dealing, and it’s always fun when it’s a little kid doing it. Some of the plot progressions felt a bit weirdly paced to me, and the manga’s structure isn’t anything too inspired, but the story is interesting enough to keep me reading.

Skimmed through the latest chapter of Gakuen Babysitters. I basically only read it to get a dose of cuteness, but I still hang on for the Ryuuichi and Hayato interactions, which are few and far between these days.

Also read the latest chapter of Scary Campus College University. I’m not really digging this Cultural Festival arc because I don’t really care about the backstory stuff, but Fujimiya’s turn has been fun to see, and I’m looking forward to seeing the confrontation between him and Mahina.

Watched some more House with my friend. I’m not enjoying the gimmicky patients like the girl who could see ghosts or the guy who can magically read your insecurities and mirror them back at you. The CIA episode was pretty fun though.

I tried watching Catch Me If You Can, but I wasn’t really feeling it and stopped. This means I can finally continue my daily Movie Roulette though, so that should be fun for tomorrow.

Wednesday

The new Dirty Laundry episode was decently fun, it’s interesting to see guests who I’m actually pretty familiar with for once. The stories weren’t particularly exciting though.

Read the new Asper Kanojo chapter. Anyway,

Read the first few chapters of Shiroyama to Mito-san. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this oddball romance progresses.

Today’s Movie Roulette choice was Fantastic Mr. Fox, which my friend has been wanting me to watch for ages so we watched it together on Discord. It was pretty fun, though the stop motion animation and stares into the camera wigged me out a bit. I’m still not sure how I feel about Wes Anderson’s Wes Andersonisms, but the new Henry Sugar movie is on my list and I actually do love that book so we’ll see…

Thursday

I finally finished reading Sammy Keyes and the Curse of Moustache Mary, which I started weeks ago and haven’t had time to return to until now. Sammy Keyes is one of my favourite childhood book series – I love Sammy’s boldness and resourcefulness, I like that the books are written like kid-friendly noir mysteries, and I like the characters and all their developing dynamics. This instalment was a pretty fun romp, and I was surprised to see a kid’s book talk about meth? As a kid I only remembered the pig (I don’t think I got that far into this one, or reread it a whole bunch). I really didn’t appreciate the slurs though, intentional or otherwise.

I’ve had an on and off headache for like three days now, and I wanted something soothing to watch while I ate dinner so I put on Heya Camp, which was about 30 minutes total for 12 episodes. It was perfectly fine and cute, not much else to say about it. I’m looking forward to getting back into Yuru Camp proper though.

Today’s Movie Roulette choice is In & Of Itself, which I had put on my list because I heard that it was life changing. It didn’t really do that for me, but it was fine. I enjoyed the magic tricks. I think if I were one of those people in the physical audience who he would look in the eye and identify, it’d be emotionally moving, but other than that the platitudes of perspective and identity weren’t all that mind blowing to me. But with this, I’m officially down to 100 movies left on my to watch list!

And then, because I couldn’t help myself, I started the next Sammy Keyes book, which is the Hollywood Mummy. It’s the first Sammy and Lana centric story in the series and I remember nothing about it, so I’m pretty excited.

Friday

I watched some more House with my friend. This crop of episodes was pretty good, with the Christmas one being a highlight. I’m definitely enjoying the more lighthearted silly sideplots than the ones about House brooding about his pain or addiction.

Managed to read the latest chapter of Akuheki before passing out from sleepiness. Today was a very toxic yaoi kind of day, huh? I always enjoy the complexity of the main couple’s relationship in this BL, which is pretty rare to find. And oh my godddddd when Daimon was presented on stage as an object…this is the good stuff.

Saturday

And now to catch up on the BL series I’m following (which I was going to do on Friday night, but oh well). First up is A Second Goodbye to You, which I feel like only barely counts as a BL at this stage? But I’m enjoying the intrigue and the thriller aspects of the story, even if it feels a little like they’re just systematically placing the suspicion onto each person involved in turn. And after the third “Everything’s going to be okay! Oh no someone died!” twist it gets a little tiring. The reporter is an interesting new addition – I really hope he can just help Harusawa out because he’s definitely in over his head.

Next is the latest chapter of Memeshii Aku to Azatoi Suh, which I find to be generally pretty silly and I’ve only gotten this far because I enjoyed the original manga that this is a spin-off of. This chapter was like a lecture on slut-shaming and consensual sex lol. But good for them, now they can get together without reservations.

I watched the first episode of Spy x Family season 2 over dinner, and it was fun! Just more of the same, which is a good thing when the quality’s already pretty high. I enjoyed the experimental animation in the opening and ending, and I’m always down for a Loid/Yor shippy episode.

We’re nearing the end of House season 4 now with a solid batch of episodes. I realize now that I actually like this new team more than the original team – Thirteen is cool, Taub is cunty (this is a compliment) and Kutner is just chilling. Plus Foreman is still there, and he’s my favourite from the original trio. The episode where House diagnoses someone by watching a soap opera is a fun setup, though the ending felt pretty rushed and anticlimactic. My friend and I don’t like the Wilson/Amber pairing, but we do love that it brings out House’s jealousy and plenty of Hilson moments. We’ve left the two part season finale for tomorrow, which should be fun.

Went back and watched the second episode of SpyFam since it was available. And man they really tried their best to fill out the Bond centric segment huh…and it’s like, I like Bond as an addition to the family, but it’s hard for him to carry a storyline by himself. The Damian segment was a lot more fun – I like that shot of Damian with his little cape looking up at the sky. And I like that his friends are a little more fleshed out and that they’re his actual friends, not just henchmen. Pretty cute episode, if a bit slow.

Okay wow I’m only halfway through Undead Unluck episode 2 but I needed to write down my thoughts in case I forget anything. I love the stylistic choices and directing style here, it feels like they’re really taking advantage of the medium to elevate the story and the atmosphere rather than just adapting the manga panel for panel (cough SpyFam is sometimes a little guilty of this when it’s not doing big action set pieces cough). But the big blue sky framing and the stylistic cut into the title card and the UNAVOIDABLE cut was pretty perfect, and captured the impactful energy of the manga’s style. Hanae Natsuki as Shen is also sooooooo good, and I’ve always loved how interesting the Union felt like as villains – knowing what I know now, everything makes sense, but when I first read the manga it was really refreshing to have an antagonistic force that could be negotiated with and seemed to have its own altruistic goals, and also crazy to see people actually die and for those deaths to have consequences on the story…a shocking concept, in shounen battle manga. I really love Undead Unluck’s commitment to its own setting and exploring all its possibilities (well maybe not in the romance department. Which, while refreshing, is very straight lmao).

Also they haven’t announced who voices Mui yet, but I have my fingers crossed really really really really really hard that it’s someone who can speak Chinese…I get why Shen didn’t get that (I don’t even know of a male seiyuu who speaks Chinese) but I have two female Chinese seiyuu in mind who’d be great for Mui…Homoto Akina perhaps…and totally not just because I love her Love Live character…but pleaseeeee I’d love to hear some real Chinese in the anime. The opening was fun and stylish, but I have to admit I was a little disappointed by Queen Bee’s song for it. It was just more lowkey than I would’ve expected…it’s heartening to see so many characters show up in the opening, though. It seems like they’re in it for the long haul and I really do hope we get to see the entire manga adapted. The directing in this episode feels like they’re setting up how this will be a grand adventure, and I can’t wait to watch it play out. I just feel reassured that the people working on this anime really understand what makes Undead Unluck so magical, and their love can be felt through the work.

Wow I’ve never noticed that little opening on Shen’s waist…hip window… Also man I appreciate them animating Andy’s dick censor, it’s pretty funny how it flops around.

I completely forgot how Shen just sells out a member of the Union for seemingly his own amusement. It definitely sowed the seed for how interesting of a character he is…and why he’s my favourite heh. And wow that ending was beautiful…

I’ve written so much about Undead Unluck that it’s a little embarrassing ha, but I love this story so much and it’s amazing to see such a great adaptation of it. I love feeling like I’m about to set out on an amazing world-spanning journey…it almost feels like when I watched One Piece for the first time as a ten year old. I’ll definitely be tuning in every week.

And that’s it for my first Week in Review! (I’m forcibly ending it here so that I go to bed and not watch any more shows or read a book.) As you can see, I can talk a lot about things that don’t matter to anyone but myself because I think I’m soooo interesting (this is only half sarcastic). If anyone ever even sees this, I’ll be amazed. But until then, I’ll just be here talking to myself.

and yes… that’s how elia is described. and that is literally almost all we know about her. so how does this contradict my point? it’s still weird and very illogical to stan this character as fervently as her stans do when this is all we know about her.

and your last point is simply untrue. lyanna gets much more characterization than elia, has more narrative importance, and has a mini me who’s directly paralleled to her and a son running around who’s magical destinies and actions will shape the world of asoiaf.

tbh i’d love to know more about elia and i think in the next book she’ll have more narrative importance. honestly, i’m actually one of those crazy people who believes that jaqen h’ghar is the real aegon, so i think elia becoming a more fleshed out character is a very very likely possibility. i also completely believe that a lot of unknown info about the rebellion will be revealed in winds of winter so it won’t just be elia who’s more fleshed out. i am very excited for this and i am eager to see where the dornish plot goes.

“Uhm…excuse me?” Mark’s frenzied voice pierced through your ears. You had only just met him a week prior during your interview but nothing could have prepared you for underestimating his authority. It made you feel better knowing that even though he wasn’t red-blooded like this asshole who seemed repulsed by your presence, atleast he stood up for you.

You heard the words: “Fucking fantastic…”

It immediately made you feel nauseous. You were just about to bow from being introduced but once he opened his mouth, a siren rang in your brain. He was ugly on the inside, you knew that now.

There was an awkward silence that followed, causing your hands to sweat profusely. You would just have to hang your head in shame.

You weren’t sure what was said next as your mind was still whirling from the last 2-minutes. Your eyes widened when you noticed a pair of shoes step into your view. “Hello, my name is Renjun. I hope you enjoy your time working with us.” His voice was so gentle, so calming. He bowed in front of you to which you returned the gesture.

“Thank you.” Your voice was shaky but you needed to hold it together for the sake of your first day.

“Mark, is it okay if I show her around? I don’t mind.” Renjun looked over to his manager who was standing tongue-in-cheek; obviously bothered by his ill-mannered employee.

“That would be great actually. While you do that, I’ll have a talk with Jeno…excuse us. Also Jun can you take over the register for a minute?” Mark bowed to you before motioning his head towards Jeno. An usual name to go with an usual attitude.

“Okay, so let’s start with the back of the store!” Renjun began leading the way while Jeno, Mark, and Jun walked off together towards the front. You followed closely behind, hoping Renjun could explain what his coworker’s problem was.

“So in the back is where we have our round tables for people to sit down, read, study, etcetera. Mark is hoping in the next year or so to add a small computer lab for those that don’t have their own laptops. Over in the corner is our storage room. This is where we keep deliveries, packages, mail, cleaning supplies.”

You nodded at every detail he provided, all the while appreciating his enthusiasm. He seemed sweet.

“I can show you where our restroom is. It’s unisex but it has a lock which is nice.” The two of you walked to where it was situated next to the storage room.

“By the way, I am sorry about my friend Jeno. He’s having a rough day, not sure why.”

Something told you that he knew why, but it was best to not know.

You had already formed your judgement of your 3 coworkers within the remaining 3 hours of your shift:

It was starting to get unbearable. How could Mark hire someone like him?

“So like this, right?” You asked while holding up index cards that you just laminated. Mark had given everyone the duty of picking their top 3 favorite books, and writing a reason why the customer should give it a read. You agreed that handwritten recommendations were an endearing way to get people’s attention.

You were curious if Jeno actually even read in his free time. He didn’t seem like the type.

“Yeah it looks good! All you need now is the double sided tape so you can attach them to the shelves.” Renjun said as he was laminating his own index cards. Of course, the roll of tape was nearest to Jeno who was 3 seats away, writing his own notes.

It was such a shame that he had such nice handwriting. You didn’t want to admit it.

“Jeno, can you pass me the tape please?” You asked while gathering your cards. It was now a test of how immature he could possibly be…over a roll of tape.

There was no movement. He kept writing, with his dip pen bleeding through the card from his heavy hand.

“Jeno.”

The way his name sounded on your lips somewhat disgusted you. Now was not the time for him to play childish.

“Didn’t hear you.” He spoke curtly, tossing the roll into your chest without even looking up from the table.

“Bullshit.”

All he could do was sneer at your comment. Jun walked to your side and helped rip off a few pieces.

“Thanks.”

“No problem. Good choices of books by the way. Jeno over there just looks up book summaries online.” Jun’s smile made your mood lighten up a bit. It felt nice to get some back up from him and Renjun.

“How’s it going over here so far?” Mark appeared next to you after closing the register for the day.

“Good. I just finished putting my cards on the shelves. My penmanship isn’t the best so hopefully it’s readable.” You said while gathering the blank index cards to put back in the holder.

“I’m sure it’s fine! How about you guys head out a bit early and enjoy the rest of your weekend. Remember, 11am Monday!”

Jeno caused a loud screech from pushing back his chair and walking briskly towards the exit, not even bothering to say goodbye. Renjun followed behind, having already cleaned up Jeno’s mess within a few seconds.

“Nice meeting you!” Renjun turned his back and waved at you, tripping over the door frame and into Jeno’s back in the process. From what you could see, Jeno barely budged from Renjun’s clumsiness.

It felt so discouraging to know that your first day at work would’ve gone fine if it wasn’t for Jeno.

You decided to let it go, there was no use in dwelling on it. You were off tomorrow and that was enough to put you back in good spirits.

Plus, Monday could be better, right?

You were dead wrong. Mark sent texts out to everyone stating that he would be out sick from a cold. Luckily, Renjun was already entrusted with a spare key for situations like this.

Sadly, this also meant it gave Jeno free reign to say what he wanted. He was a shallow pool with few surprises.

“What happened to biting me back?” Jeno glanced over at you with a smirk as the two of you reorganized the shelves. He had already rolled his eyes a few times at your lack of coordination, disregarding the fact that it was only your second day.

At first you didn’t even want to respond but it was only 12pm and there was going to be some point that you had to acknowledge his existence. Considering he seemed less brash today, you could maybe see yourself holding a civil conversation with him.

“What do you mean?”

You kept your eyes forward, scanning for the next book to place in alphabetical order.

“You were tough shit on Saturday. Why so quiet now? I was having fun.”

You couldn't help but contort your face into a dumbfounded expression. He was having fun? What, being an ass?

“I was just sticking up for myself, but now I’m just going to ignore you. You’re not worth my time.”

“I am worth every bit of your time, it’s just up to you to deal with it.” He stepped closer to you but as luck would have it, you were done with your share of organizing the books.

You left Jeno alone in the aisle and walked up to a customer that was searching for assistance.

He didn’t have as big of an appetite today so he would just let Renjun have the rest.

He still had so much left to go on his shift. Another 5 hours of dealing with annoying customers, and a bitch that seemed too entitled. He felt like a prisoner. You never had anything remarkable to say but Jun and Renjun seemed to think you were magnetic. You never really talked at all. It felt unnatural of him to actually recall your name. It made him shudder at the thought.

As soon as he sat down in the outdoor benches placed near the store, his phone buzzed. It couldn’t have been a new hookup, he’d been shit out of luck for the past week.

“Shut the fuck up.” Jeno actually smiled for once. Renjun mentally noted that fact.

“I am in charge y’know?” Renjun exited and began walking the same route that Jeno took, most likely going to the same benches situated at the convenience store.

Jeno immediately scanned the store for you. With it not being busy for a Monday, he found you with ease; crouched down, dusting the bottom bookshelves in the science-fiction section.

“Hey dude you okay?”

Jeno hadn’t even noticed that Jun walked up the counter, hunched over with a paper plane in his hands.

“Yeah, why?” Jeno immediately took his eyes from your backside and directed his attention to Jun.

Jun remained slouched over the counter without adding on to the conversation. During the silence, Jeno thought of an idea.

“Hey, can you take over for a minute?” Jeno asked as he slammed his palm on the counter to get his attention.

“What are you about to do?” Jun’s eyes followed Jeno as he walked around to the outside of the counter with a smug grin on his face.

Jeno ignored his question. He would be able to see perfectly from his position at the register.

You were still dusting the bottom bookshelf when you felt a presence behind you. Assuming it was just a customer, you continued swiping the wand across the mahogany shelf.

But the smell of a familiar cologne entered your nose and you recognized it as Jeno’s.

As soon as you turned your head to the left, you were met with his groin perfectly level with your face. Your eyes immediately scanned up his body to see him reaching up on the top shelf to grab a book.

It was as if you could hear the shrug in his shoulders at his “please.” You continued on, trying to ignore the fact he walked around to be next to you again.

You felt him lower his head to your height, with his lips a mere centimeters away from your ear.

“How come you don’t ever look at me?” You felt your body go into shock at hearing him whisper.

“Jeno! Who’s covering the register?”

You jumped when you heard a smack atop Jeno’s shoulder.

Renjun was back from his lunch already, thank God.

“Jun is! And stop fucking hitting me before I smack the shit out of you.” Jeno turned his head to the right to talk to Renjun with gritted teeth.

“Well he’s not there!”

This was your cue to slip away unnoticed. It was your turn for lunch anyways.

It felt nice to get some fresh air outside. The slight smell of rain mixed with the gasoline coming from the convenience store was oddly pleasant. You didn’t mind eating here since Renjun suggested it but you were definitely going to find a different lunch spot in the future. Something with more greenery instead of a busy intersection with honking cars.

You didn’t know if it was too soon to talk to Mark about Jeno…it was only your second day. It baffled you that Jeno and Renjun were that close too. They seemed to travel to and from work together, maybe even lived together. What did sweet, little Renjun see in Jeno? All you saw was a tense, egotistical, manchild.

“Renjun?” Jeno called out from outside his bedroom. There had been no sight of him yet and they were going to be late to work.

Usually he was the one dragging Jeno out of bed in the morning. But for some reason it was too quiet: no foot shuffling, no clacking of dishes, no gargling from mouthwash.

“Renjun! Get up, we're gonna be late!” Jeno barged into his room. Renjun’s blackout curtains prevented Jeno from seeing if he was still asleep or just dead. But judging by the sound of his unusually loud snoring, he probably wasn’t feeling well.

“Renjun.” Jeno shook him quite hard, causing him to stir and swat at his hand.

Jeno drew his hand back once he was able to get a closer look. Renjun’s eyes were crusted shut. He rose up out of bed slowly, coughing in the process.

“Damn, you look like shit.”

“I don’t feel well at…all. I can barely breathe.” Renjun’s congested voice made Jeno cringe. He sounded way too nasally for his liking.

“Where’s the key Mark gave you?” Jeno asked while trying to scan the room through the darkness. Renjun tried to do the same but his eye discharge made it nearly impossible.

“It’s under my laptop.” Renjun choked on his words, coughing more into his shirt.

Jeno walked over to Renjun’s desk and lifted his laptop, finding the spare key Mark entrusted him with.

“Okay, I'm gonna head out. See you later.”

“Jen, please don’t lose that key.” Renjun struggled for air amidst the desperation in his voice. He hoped Jeno could keep track of it, for Mark’s sanity.

The train ride to work alone felt weird and using the key to open the bookstore felt even weirder. There was a reason why Mark left Renjun in charge.

Jeno paced around the store, turning on the vintage lamps and opening the blinds. He was hoping it would be slow today considering Mark was still out sick. And with Renjun out now too, he was definitely letting Jun take charge.

It was too early in the morning to text his “Unholy Trinity” group chat, so scrolling through Reddit would have to suffice.
