More titles of Grishaverse essays I'm yet to write

Last time I did this I called it "essays I'll probably never write" and then ended up writing all of them lol, so stay tuned and let me know if there's any in particular you want to hear :)

The manipulation of corrupt governments and the abuse of Grisha in both Fjerda and Ravka as shown through the presentation of Nina Zenik and Matthias Helvar (this post has been in my drafts for a while and I kind of covered this in a long rant about Nina recently but I’d love to do it properly)

The importance of Fruszi in season 2 of Shadow and Bone; her presentation, her parallels with Zoya, her parallels with Inej (and the subsequent parallels created between the Darkling and Tante Heleen), her parallels with Genya, and the relevance of her character to the arc of the show. (I have a lot of thoughts about Fruszi and this one might end up being included in the minor character analysis series (if I ever get myself together and start it) even though that’s really going to be focusing on the six of crows books)

The importance of the Komedie Brute in Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom as devices of both plot and character, particularly with the interpretation of Mr Crimson as an omen of death. (I know I technically already wrote this one, but I did it a long time ago as two separate posts and I’ve had a lot more thoughts about it since so I really want to combine them and rewrite it all as one)

My personal take on what the global landscape of the Grishaverse would look like if parem had become a global resource (I have thoughts - and a lot of them are about how much I hate the Kerch government)

The importance of denying certain important characters a name (eg Inej’s parents, and Matthias’ parents and sister) and why this is both heartbreaking and literary genius (firstly, you may have noticed I’ve given up on making my titles sound academic, and secondly I have started writing this one so yeah it may come soon if anyone would be interested)

The one thing that bothers me about Love Sea is what they did with ViMook's storyline. Like as a frequent enjoyer of side couples I'm used to the writers paying them dust & I was entirely prepared for a rushed underdeveloped ending for VM. But leaving their story UNFINISHED is cruel beyond comprehension 😭😭😭😭 Like why give them a premise at all if you're not planning to give their story an ending?????? In ep 9 Mook isn't even ready to speak to Vi & things are awkward between them but in ep 10 they're hanging out like they normally do & discussing Mut & Rak instead of addressing the elephant in the room (their feelings). Like, why didn't they confess??!!!! AND I GET IT not every story gets a happy ending or whatever but the craziest part is that the only thing holding them back from becoming girlfriends is that Vi doesn't want to "lose" by confessing first & Mook thinks Vi doesn't actually like women. It's not even Vi's career or internalized homophobia or literally any kind of complicated deep-seated issue. So if Mook finds out that Vi is, in fact, a lesbian, and Vi gets over her silliness, they could have been together, but instead, their last scene together is them talking about men??? Like can they talk about their own lives??? 😭 And I KNOW that we might see them finally getting together in the special episode. But special episodes are for cutesy post-canon bonus content, not for plot developments. I'm genuinely so disappointed.

If the writers of Gen V hadn't yet understood that the conversation between Jordan and Marie was perceived as so fundamental by the fans, they will have to do it now that almost all the fanfics concern THE TALK and not smut.

It's a new day and I still cannot stop thinking about that wesper scene!!!

I am trying to focus and carry on with the day but all I can think about is how in Jesper's nightmare/flashback which was essentially a sweet dream where he got to meet his mom again and she was so proudly telling him how Jesper was a natural and he would turn spoons into rings and coins into keys ... AND THEN JESPER USED A COIN TO MAKE THE KEY FOR WYLAN!!!!

Jesper is actually no longer hiding what makes him special. He is sitting with his lover in his bed and having a heart to heart and doing magical stuff 🥹

*twinkling sounds when Jesper makes the key*

And then the way Jesper is flustered when Wylan thought the key is a coat hook and started overthinking his sweet gesture (he is so me!) 🥺

Wylan saying “that is the kindest thing that anyone has ever done for me.” with his starry eyes filled with surprise, gratitude, hope and perhaps even love (?) 🥹🥹🥹🥹

They are so used to having their armour up but in that moment they are just fearlessly themselves and trusting each other with their vulnerability. I am going to actually cry now :'",,) <3

I wonder if one day Jesper would again turn a spoon into a ring. Only that time it would be the most beautiful ring to ever exist because it's literally crafted with love for someone just as lovely and beautiful 🥹

Why doesn't a great character like Chifuyu Matsuno have a significant other? After all, we know he's the best boy and deserves all the love in the world.

He would be the perfect boyfriend who would certainly take care of his lover. If he wanted to, he could certainly find someone without a problem.

But for him, friends always came first, not romantic love.

When Ryusei's mom asked him about the girlfriend, he admitted he wasn't interested. And then he really wasn't. He had just met Baji, a guy he admired and somewhat his first true friend, who would show him the importance of male bonding by introducing him to the world of the gang. It was also then that he devoted all his energy to the matter with Ryusei, who he was worried about. Friendship was important to him. Toman was important to him. Dating was the last thing on his mind back then.

The woman kind of predicted that he would never have a girlfriend. Because just as he focused on Baji, Ryusei and all Toman then, his commitment to his friends was present in his life all the time and became even stronger. 

It's not that Chifuyu doesn't want a partner in life at all. He imagined he would still have his old hairstyle when he got married. He believed that in the future he would have a wife. But in his mind, it was all going to happen in the indefinite future. 

And he actually seemed a bit salty about being single. He even envied Takemichi that he had a girlfriend because he didn't have one himself. And he wasn't going to have a significant other in the future that we know of. 

Why didn't he find himself a date for Christmas? Because he was focused on helping Takemichi save Toman from a terrible future. Because he wanted to help all his friends and protect them. And since then, he has consistently focused on desperate attempts to save his friends, focusing his entire life on it.

Chifuyu took the "bros before h*es" rule to a whole new level. He placed his friends in such high regard that he did not even allow himself to have a love life. His friends are the most important in his life and he will always devote himself to them the most. He was ready to give his life for them.  He did sacrifice himself for them. Many times. He entrusted his life to them so much that he did not allow himself to have anything but friendship.

Even if he was in a relationship, he would still put his friends first (although I'm still pretty sure Chifuyu wouldn't date someone he didn't befriend first). He values friendship more than his love life, because his friends are his whole life.

I’ve watched the first two eps of the spin-off but I actually feel sick about it. Not only because it’s so weird and bad what they’ve done to Daryl’s character but seeing all the promo and money they poured into it and then knowing what they did to Melissa in the process. It’s gross. It makes me think how hard it must be for her to watch this crap if she even can.

It's extremely difficult to separate what's onscreen from what happened offscreen, that's true.

🚨Ch. 44 Preview🚨 for “Hold Me Down || Clexa Re-write”

In anticipation of an execution that is intimately intertwined with her past, Lexa reflects on a lifetime of struggles, trauma, and coming into her power.

Down the hall, Lexa's chambers are shrouded in somber silence, causing her muscles to be even tenser as she finishes twisting fresh braids into her hair, then applies her warpaint before putting on her shoulder armor and sash. 

She takes several deep breaths looking at herself in her bathroom mirror. Her eyes are a dark abyss, reflecting more pain and death than most could see in ten lifetimes. She was ready to put this all behind her, but wanted to savor every second of agony she could cause [****] before releasing her to whatever afterlife awaits.  

It seemed she'd started moving past the darkness during her weekend away with Clarke, in the quiet moments under the stars, in the tranquil chill of the water held together, in the warmth of the bed as Lexa kissed each mark on the bruised skin beneath her.  But it was rolling in like storm clouds, the resentment she had for her position that put Clarke in such danger, the guilt that dripped out of her eyes onto Clarke's skin as she kissed the evidence of her failures.  

Being back in the tower now, knowing what is about to come, thinking about facing those dark eyes again, hatred bleeds back into her soul like ink drops into water. 

Her desire for blood tingles in the tips of her fingers, tracing along the handle of her dagger as it sits sheathed in her belt.

Lexa wonders if she will ever be free of this guilt.  

Because suddenly she's seventeen again.  Standing in her room staring at a wooden box on her bed. 

Did Costia cry out for me too? 

Did I condemn them both? 

Is loving someone the cruelest thing I could do to them?

It's as easy as slipping on her cloak, letting the darkness fill every corner of her insides as she studies her own face in the clouded glass with a penetrating stare. The whites of her eyes popped out from the black charcoal rubbed across her face. The tiny golden wheel-like symbol between her eyebrows was supposed to mean one thing: 

I am the law. 

And my enemies will be met with death.
