I'm doing my first reread of the back half of Dunmeshi, having forgotten a lot of the details of what happened because I read it all so fast (three days for the whole manga from start to finish) and damn. This panel from chapter 54. This fucking panel.

I'm sure I'm late to the party here and someone else has already talked about this but this panel is just. This whole sequence is just such a stark illustration of who Kabru is when the chips are down. He's out of his element. His plan to get the people out of the dungeon safely failed catastrophically in a way he (naively) didn't predict, but the Canaries did, and planned ahead for in exactly the way that is the most upsetting to Kabru personally. He's being actively retraumatized at this very moment by the panic as people flee, as people get poisoned outside Pattadol's barrier.

And he still saves this man.

He doesn't know this guy! He had never seen him before in his life. Everyone else in that crowd was already too late to save. But this guy wasn't! This guy wasn't, and Kabru put his neck on the line to rescue him without hesitation. His first thought was for identifying the person still trapped so he could be rescued. He didn't think for an instant about his own safety. The instant concern is not an act! Look at his face!

He didn't have to save this man... Except that he did, because of who he is as a person. There is no innocent human life that is disposable to Kabru, despite what the red herring of his reaction to the thieves at the beginning was. This is who Kabru is.

#that panel legit made me cry #with the context of the whole series that panel was like being punched in the face with how GOOD Kabru is #the visuals are so... like. The symbolism. The pause in the middle of this disaster that is just. this one man's gratitude.#UGH. IT KILLS ME.#Also it's not for nothing that the very next panels are Mithrun asking how he knew #and Kabru feeling like it's so obvious that you can see it in their faces #it seems to be a turning point of respect for him for Mithrun too #just. it really just sums up HOW MUCH Kabru is just. yeah to me it feels like the popular idea that John was homophobic/beat his kid(s)/taught them that having emotion makes you weak is just ppl choosing to interpret 'abusive father' in the shallowest most black-and-white movie villain way possible. when the ways he fucks them up in canon are so much more interesting and complicated.

#if anything it seems like his problem is being excessively emotional and fragile to the point where they had to walk on eggshells around him #he was like step 1 parentify 1st kid until he believes desire is inherently selfish and that it's his job 2 save the entire world.#step 2 make other kid a Symbol of Lost Innocence in a way that subtly Others and Infantilizes him.#step 3 isolate them so they only have each other step 4 tell one to 'save or kill' the other step 5 DIE.#supernatural #john winchester

Sometimes I'd like to think one of Vasco's favorite horses was a white horse the was defensive and skittish because it reminded him of Machete.

Naturally very few would find the horse to be of value, so Vasco would have to justify it staying.

Basically, in those long stretches of time when they don't see each other, while Machete is being sad and catholic, Vasco is having a whole horse girl movie in the background.

I had to sit down and stare off into the distance for a while, longingly imagining Vasco's adventures as a horse girl movie protagonist.

yanno the more i consider it the more i think jayce started hallucinating in that cave bc he was actually just incredibly sleep deprived... i mean i guess its not like they told us why he hallucinates melvik and i havent rlly seen anyone mention the why of it but like thats my idea at least HAHA

which uhh not only are hallucinations a very real symptom of sleep deprivation (like as early as like 2-3 days w/o sleep), but when considering the like cold rock floor, vomit inducing leg pain, dirty still water and raw lizard guts; he definitely was not in the most comfortable of positions to be sleeping (even if he was extremely tired lmao) also those fuckin Things watching over him while he wastes away. if u knew something was watching you would you be able to get a good nights rest lmfao

which ofc makes that whole scene even more depressing LMAO to me at least idk about yall kjdjlkjs

and it doesnt help that even before he got yeeted into the anomaly he was 1) staying up for multiple nights watching over SourdoughStarter!Viktor trying to figure out whats going on w him n then 2) 'sleeping' in his lab waiting for viktor to come back after their messy divorce scene

and i know he didnt sleep well bc of personal experience HAHA ive had a handful of times where ive been kept awake all night from stomach stuff (cramps or bloating or starving pains u name it lol) so like been there done that i can Relate.

yeah we got shots of him curled up in our signature period cramps pose or like very lethargically laying on the ground, but i can also relate to that bc theres times either in my oops i forgor food days where i just kinda rot in bed all day barely moving OR when im trying to got to sleep but cant so i just close my eyes for 4 hours despite my brain being awake the whole time and just existing between states of consciousness while not actively resting at all

and while we're here ik he has a bunch of things on his mind to theoretically cry about, but i have definitely cried from frustration of not being able to sleep like a good chunk of times in my life HAHA so

like omfg he hasnt had a decent sleep in MONTHS yall fhsjdjkdshkfj
