MisAdventures with a Black Walnut
I stepped on something during my after work walk the other day & was like, "hey what's this?" I opened up the not-quite-apple-like thing and used PictureThis plant ID app to find out it was a black walnut seed.
I mean, it looked like a walnut for sure on the inside, but it's always good to double check. Anyway.
Beware! That bright yellow "juice" becomes POWERFUL dark brown STAIN of all stains.
My palm was stained for a week. No amount of cleaning product (I tried them all) or scrubbing got it off. Just time wore it away.
Live and learn. Fascinating though! 😊

We didn’t plan on buying mooncakes from Bee Cheng Hiang (美珍香) as their retail price for the bakkwa mooncakes had gone up by S$10 from last year and the staff’s discount is a little lacking at 20%. But sister’s company is dangling a delicious 40% off the S$100 box for a limited time so we just couldn’t pass up the purchase. :D

The mooncakes came in an auspicious Red and Gold Box which can double as a reusable storage for small items. Each of the four baked dessert is individually vacuum sealed for freshness.

The Signature Bakkwa Mooncakes (肉干月饼) is filled with melon seeds and nuts like almond, sesame, cashew nut, walnut and winter melon seed with the addition of their gourmet bakkwa (肉干). It offered multilayers of textures from the different nuts and bits of smoky barbecue pork while being savoury sweet in flavours. Normally paired with Chinese tea but I only have less sweet milk tea to go with it.

Did you ever wake up late (didn't set an alarm), go to church, eat a bagel, watch the best F1 race of the season, finish your school work ahead of schedule, then watch old movies in your pajamas all day? Because 10/10 recommend. Ended with a scoop of Ben & Jerry's Half Baked 😌

German cake appreciation post
Holy fuck why does nobody talk about this. Okay France has pastries and Italy has bread etc etc but Germany? Best cake in the world. Goddamn. There’s this giant range of traditional cakes that are sold by the slice so you try em all with a group of friends/family over coffee. There is cake Everywhere. Most of the time it’s Kuchen-not layered/frosted, like a coffee cake. That is usually sheetpan-baked and comes marbled with pudding, yoghurty cheese, cinnamon sugar, streusel, apple, plum, poppy seeds, berries, cheesecake, honeyed almonds………anything your sugar-loving heart could imagine. Kuchen also refers to what Americans would call tarts and pies. And then there are tortes, which are layered with all of the above plus ganache, frosting, more pudding, etc, more like an American layer cake. God i love it. I love it all. Genuinely have never had better cake in my life than here. I want to cry holy shit
