German cake appreciation post

Holy fuck why does nobody talk about this. Okay France has pastries and Italy has bread etc etc but Germany? Best cake in the world. Goddamn. There’s this giant range of traditional cakes that are sold by the slice so you try em all with a group of friends/family over coffee. There is cake Everywhere. Most of the time it’s Kuchen-not layered/frosted, like a coffee cake. That is usually sheetpan-baked and comes marbled with pudding, yoghurty cheese, cinnamon sugar, streusel, apple, plum, poppy seeds, berries, cheesecake, honeyed almonds………anything your sugar-loving heart could imagine. Kuchen also refers to what Americans would call tarts and pies. And then there are tortes, which are layered with all of the above plus ganache, frosting, more pudding, etc, more like an American layer cake. God i love it. I love it all. Genuinely have never had better cake in my life than here. I want to cry holy shit

Ya know the english language is generally fine and all but y'all just don't have decent words for some german essentials

For example I will never not hate the english word for Brötchen

I mean I know if I say either bread roll or bun people are gonna generally understand what I mean but neither of those words actually encompass the full range of german Brötchen

To me this is a bread roll:

But both of those words do not feel correct for any of these things:

Those are proper Brötchen and calling them bread roll or bun just feels so wrong

Okay my social bar for today is drained empty. I will now vanish and disappear and not think a single thought about my grandma until at least tomorrow 10am. (She had a stroke, came back from hospital today and I had to babysit the old lady the whole day. I can endure the same tirade about bread rolls about 5 times, now it's overstepping a line of comfort.)

Let's be honest - I am a dramaqueen. A big one, aber ich zweifle wirklich daran, dass ich einen verletzten und verängstigten Leo wirklich sehen will.
