one my favorite parts of watching voyager for the first time is how tuvok brings a whole new context to spock.

that tumblr post floating around where vulcans basically see spock as jvn with gritty? completely believable after watching voyager.

i mean, canon basically stayed away from vulcans in tng and ds9 (notable exceptions excluded of course), so it wasn't until voyager that there was something new on the vulcan front.

then suddenly there's tuvok with his wholly logical approach and his super emotional suppression techniques, and he's denying vulcans can have friends because the emotional connotation of the word cannot be fulfilled, and he's explaining to harry kim about how "to the trained vulcan intellect, intense romantic love is nothing more than a set of stereotypical behaviors" and humans who don't have vulcan discipline are swept along by the process, and you look back at spock and go...oh. oh.

I like to think that Vulcans who come to understand that Humans just can’t try to process emotions the same way as them, it’s just healthiest to let it out in harmless ways, decide that venting and stuff should be taken just as seriously as Vulcan’s meditation time, and will encourage the Humans around them to complain about what’s upsetting them

People who are used to aloof Vulcans who avoid Humans at all cost running into one comforting a Human

it makes me sick to my stomach thinking about how spock — touch telepath, by the way — touches jim and accepts his touch so freely, almost without hesitation, but denies touch from others. like, okay, you can argue he has his cool vulcan telepathic shields on all the time, but, surely, surely, he can feel jim's mind buzzing, electric and agitated, brushing against his own. like humans brush hands with the one they like.

and he shouldn't think about it, but maybe he does. maybe in the quietness and stillness of his meditation, he feels the ghost of jim's psychic, burning, tingling. like lips feel hours later after a kiss. the memory of it.

but then, he's sure jim isn't even aware of all this. so he keeps touching him and letting himself be touched. and it could mean nothing.

I'm not sure if it's like a trope or whatever but something that I find really entertaining is that in some older spirk fics like pre-2000s. They always have jim going through this is sexuality crisis like "omg I'm not heterosexual anymore....I like spock...I might be b-b-bbbisexual 😱" meanwhile spock is like "Logically I know I'm gay and that's fine because alien culture, BUT FUCK a goddamn HUMAN? My fucking captain no less....for shame....I am not Vulcan enough.....I lack logic.....I need to meditate to suppress my emotions, goddamn why am I not gay for other Vuclans...."
