Time to ramble about Martin Strickland, AKA the bastard man!

Oddly enough, I actually have a lot of ideas for him. He's scum, But he's very fun to write for!

General Info:

The Stricklands weren't always evil rich bastards. Martin's grandparents moved to the US from Ireland, Made a fortune, And got corrupted by capitalism. It stuck for future generations.

His parents were definitely not good people either. Martin just took that shittiness to the next level as he grew up.

He's cishet.

He's both transphobic and lowkey sexist.

The Past:

He went to college to study business. There he met two people, Aria Meadows and Jayden Foxglove (Jay's birth parent. Note: He used he/him and she/her pronouns).

The three became an odd friend group, Although it definitely felt like Martin was third wheeling Aria and Jayden's friendship.

Years went by and the three grew distant once college ended. Martin inherited both his family's wealth and manor. He eventually got married with only the idea of having future heirs in mind.

Once his youngest child was a year old, News went around about a pendant with unnatural abilities. He was determined to get his hands on it.

What he didn't expect was for Aria to already be there. She was on a mission to get the pendant as well. But she also learned about the Strickland's greedy desires and Martin's willingness to keep that family greed alive. She would not let someone with that much darkness in his heart get his hands on this power.

That's when Martin no longer saw Aria as an old friend, But as a threat to his power. So he killed her, Effectively destroying any good he had left in him.

Out of nowhere, Jayden suddenly attacked him. She wasn't a Music Dragon like Aria, But he went with her on this mission due to being friends with her. Out of pure grief and rage, Jayden left the scars on Martin's face.

Martin did manage to get the pendant, But left in a weakened state. Shortly after that, Jayden mysteriously disappeared, With her child being found by James and Hollie Benson.

Family and Business:

Martin had three biological children (Lynnette, Marianne, and Scottie), All AFAB. But he wanted a man and only a man to inherit his wealth. So he took in Benz Rodriguez (Belongs to @capturecharlesau).

Benz was considered the favorite child out of the four. Scottie on the other hand was considered the "black sheep" of the family.

Scottie could not keep up with Martin's impossible standards. While his abuse towards them started out verbal and emotional when they were a kid, They quickly became more physical as Scottie became a teenager once he learned they were nonbinary.

While Martin mostly used his ring hand, He also used wooden rulers when he was feeling extra ruthless...

Speaking of ruthless, He did many morally bankrupt things to keep his wealth growing, As well as to keep people quiet. Blackmail, Extortion, Even murder. Nothing was too low for him.

He likely talked to people like Vivian Arc (Belongs to @bluetorchsky) and Mr. Allwork (Belongs to @capturecharlesau) at least a few times because rich people business and all that.

Once Scottie was 17, They finally had enough of the abuse and ran away from home. Benz left shortly after to create his own path separate from his father.

Martin's Fate:

During the events of Shifted Timeline, Scottie tells Hazel Juniper about the Stricklands to avoid her writing about the Toppats. This was enough to cause an investigation.

Martin's horrid acts were exposed and he was ruined. His wife divorced him, Not because she was any better, But because she only married him for his wealth and she didn't want to get involved in his scandal.

Lynnette and Marianne also left home to go find both Benz and Scottie.

Martin was left with nobody and everybody now knew what he did. The last time he was seen, Was when he was found dead in his crashed car. After investigation, It was revealed that his brakes were cut. It was not an accident...

Sojourn: Yeesh. Well, Even if my heart's made of metal and plastic, I've still got one. I've always been trying to keep my folks safe, even when it was illegal to.

Cynthia recently made a new friend in Vivian.

Cynthia: I just can't even imagine life without my babies! They were the best emotional support when our TV show got cancelled and we were left behind to start from scratch with almost nothing.

Vivian: Babies...? I thought you only had one son?

Cynthia: I meant my fur babies, Gabby and Cheech. They're the best thing to ever happen to me. ... Right after Justin, of course. ... You don't even know what that feels like until you adopt a couple of pets yourself.

Vivian: Well, I'm raising three small children, the eldest of which is not even biologically mine, but I love them all the same, so I think I know a type of devotion that's just as deep...

Cynthia: You know what we need in this city? More hangout spaces that are inclusive to children AND pets!

Vivian: What spaces are you thinking of? You can take pets to parks. I don't really want pets in cafés or shopping centres. My daughter Etsu gets scared of dogs easily.

Vivian, thinking: Oh Watcher, I'm grateful she isn't running for city council representative in MY district!

(Askthewhiterocket) “Mon Dieu!” Meg gasped in surprised as she caught sight of Vivian. Kyo had told her to expect the presence of a lot of legendaries at the event but actually seeing them, let alone Xerneas of all things, was a whole other experience.

“Donneur de Vie!” she said with a slight curtsy, “How blessed this event is to have you in attendance. I wasn’t aware you had awoken from your slumber, but I suppose ones as great and powerful as you deserve their privacy most of all. What brings you to this event?”

Vivian looked down at the two humans that had approached xem. Xe could tell at a glance that they didn't mean any harm. Deciding that xeir current form would prove... complications when communicating (especially since xe hadn't quite gotten the hang of telepathy), xe decided to take on their humanoid appearance for the moment.

Focusing xeir aura, xeir body began to light up, the crystals on xeir antlers taking on a brilliant, multicolored glow, akin to that of other Xerneas. Gradually, xeir silhouette began to shrink and change shape, before finally the light faded, revealing xeir gijinka form.

"Apologies for the lightshow. I just find it much easier to talk to humans like this. I just simply came to see the Magi and to interact with some of the other Pokémon. Though seeing a human here besides the hosts, while a bit of a surprise, is definitely a welcome one."

Lucille Ball’s Collabs with Women Named Joan

A remarkable number of talented women named Joan - and even a few memorable characters - were part of the Lucyverse.

JOAN BANKS (1918-1989) 

Joan Banks’ only credit with Lucille Ball was in “Fan Magazine Interview” (1954) in which she played reporter Eleanor Harris, assigned to do a story on Ricky Ricardo’s wife aka Lucy Ricardo. Here character name was a tribute to real-life writer Eleanor Harris. 

JOAN BLONDELL (1906-1979)

Joan Blondell (sister of Gloria Blondell) was active as a performer concurrently with Lucille Ball. On “The Lucy Show,” she played Joan Brenner, a character intended to fill the gap after the departure of Vivian Vance. But she did not get along with Lucille Ball, and after a shouting match in front of the studio audience, Blondell was dismissed after just two episodes. 

JOAN CAREY (1921-2015) 

Joan Carey was born Joan Somerville Norbury on February 18, 1921 in Yorkshire, England. As a background performer and stand-in, she appeared on many episodes of “I Love Lucy” and “The Lucy Show,” generally uncredited. 

JOAN CAULFIELD (1922-1991)

Joan Caulfield played the role of Liz Cooper on the television adaptation of “My Favorite Husband” (1953-55). Lucille Ball played the role on radio, but chose instead to play Lucy Ricardo. Caulfield and Ball were later both guest stars on “Bob Hope’s Leading Ladies” in 1966.  

JOAN CRAWFORD (1905-1977)

Joan Crawford was born Lucille Fay LeSueur. The Oscar-winning actress was mentioned on several episodes of “I Love Lucy” and “The Lucy Show” before making a guest appearance in “Lucy and the Lost Star” in 1968. The episode was originally intended for Gloria Swanson, hence the non-specific title. The title “Lucy and Joan” had already been used when Joan Bennet guest-starred.  As with Bennett there was off-stage friction between Crawford and Ball. 

JOAN COLLINS (1933)

English-born actress Joan Collins hosted the “All Star Party for Lucille Ball” in 1984. She was also seen with Ball on “Bob Hope’s Leading Ladies” (1966), “Women I Love: Beautiful But Funny” (1982), “Night of 100 Stars II” (1985), and “Friar’s Club Tribute to Gene Kelly” (1985). 

JOAN CROSBY (1924-1992)

Joan Crosby was a journalist who wrote about Lucille Ball and was the one-time president of the Hollywood Women’s Press Club. As such, she played herself (above far right) in “Lucy Meets the Burtons” (1970). 

JOAN FONTAINE (1917-2013)

Born Joan de Beauvoir de Havilland in Tokyo, she was the sister of Olivia de Havilland. She appeared with Lucy (and two other Joans) in “Bob Hope’s Leading Ladies” (1966). In 1959 she appeared on an episode of “Westinghouse-Desilu Playhouse” hosted by Desi Arnaz. 

JOAN GRANT

Joan Grant is the character played by Lucille Ball in The Marines Fly High (1940). She runs a cocoa plantation in the South American jungle and allows a platoon of US Marines to stay there. Two of the Marines tussle over her affections. When she is kidnapped, the two Marines unite to save her.

JOAN RIVERS (1933-2014)

Joan Alexandra Molinsky was born in New York City and became one of the top female comedians of all time. She co-starred with Lucille Ball on “Here’s Lucy” in “Lucy and Joan Rivers Do Jury Duty” (1973) where Rivers played Joan Reynolds. She was the first female guest-host of "The Tonight Show”  interviewing Lucille Ball three times.

JOAN SWIFT (1933-2016) 

Joan Swift was a frequent background player who had a few lines on “The Lucy Show” and “Here’s Lucy.”  Three of her characters were also named Joan. Her final screen appearance was in “Lucy Gets Lucky” (1975). 

During her long career in Hollywood, Lucille Ball also worked with or employed Joan Benny (Jack’s daughter), Joan Marshall (”Star Trek”), Joan O’Brien (”Shower of Stars”), Joan Fairfax (”Tonight Show with Jack Paar”), Joan Staley (”The Untouchables”), and Joan Woodbury (”There Goes My Girl”).

In “Lucy the Skydiver” (1970), Lucy Carter hears the voices of strong women like Florence Nightingale and Joan of Arc, the Americanized name of the French saint and warrior Jeanne d'Arc.

"I MARRIED JOAN” starring JOAN DAVIS

From 1952 to 1955 Joan Davis (1912-1961) starred in the sitcom “I Married Joan,” which was NBC’s answer to the popularity of “I Love Lucy.”  Comic actress Davis had appeared with Lucille Ball in the 1933 film Bunker Bean. Like Lucy, Davis used her own first name and was a scatterbrained housewife. Her husband (Jim Backus) was a judge. 22:00 - Howls have gotten louder. Heard the sound of Harper panicking nextdoor. I head out to the hallway (appearance same as addendum) and see what's wrong; Recreo does the same. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

22:05 - Seems that Harper has a bad reaction with a Pokemon that looks like Poochyena (see addendum for appearance). Recreo investigates while I accompany Harper to make sure she's alright. We leave her room (see addendum for appearance), I recommend we head somewhere else. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

22:10 - Harper chooses to get water from the kitchen. I accompany her (see addendum for appearance), Master Cyrus joins us. Karina and Terence are asleep; Karina is hugging one of the Castform. Harper gets herself water and takes some sips. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

22:15 - Loud noise in the direction of the bedrooms. Harper runs out, I follow. Hallway appearance same as addendum. Recreo discusses what he learned; there is now a Mighthyena evolution. Harper reacts poorly. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

22:16 - The Mighthyena evolution (see addendum for appearance) breaks the window down and heads into Harper's room by using Stone Edge. Two Poochyena follow. Recreo sends out that strange Pokemon that he used to fight Rattlerail. See addendum for play-by-play of resulting battle. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

22:18 - Harper has frozen. At my request, Terence retrieves Harper's water. She drinks it, slowly. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

22:25 - Harper calmed down enough for me to request her help with Type: Null. I lead her in to my room and release them from their Poke Ball. I explain how I found them. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

22:28 - Harper helps me reassureexplain to Type: Null what the issue with my broken arm is. Harper then pets Type: Null, at my assurance. I thank Harper for her discretion with Type: Null. She calls me brave for showing them to her. Harper appeared to be debating something as I explained how I was extending my trust in her for showing them Type: Null. It seems the groundwork has been laid, at least with her. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

22:30 - I offer my services as a therapist to Harper. She leaves, her 'Espeon' follows after giving me a look that is best described as guilty. PerhapsThe groundwork has been laid for both of them. I will need to nurture this. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

07:30 - We've returned to Fortree City. Maudie informs us through the intercom that people knocked on the door of the RARAT. I head outside, meet Recreo. Appearance of hallway same as addendum. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

07:35 - Recreo and I discuss what happened with Harper last night. He reveals he caught two of the Poochyena. We decide it's best to do some sort of exposure therapy with Harper. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

07:40 - We meet Meenah Salazar and Hotono Haraguchi outside and invite them in. See addendum for appearance descriptions. They're merchants and survived the calamity. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

07:50 - We lead Meenah and Hotono into the control room (appearance same as addendum). We learn that Mauville exploded after I inquire about Gym Leader Watson. Coat black. Hands gloved in cloth.

08:00 - The intercoms broadcast something. See addendum for what they said. Discussed the Almighty Sinnoh--ancient terms for Dialga, Palkia, and some third god, along with the '22 sacred beasts'. Unsure what this means. Learn from Meenah and Hotono that this is a regular occurrence throughout the region. Coat black. Hands gloved in cloth.

08:10 - We learn that there are people living in Dewford Town--they're apparently reclusive. Harper got very interested at the mention of Dewford--asked Meenah and Hotono about a man of a certain height that looks like her. Assumingly a lost relative or friend?. Regardless, someone that's important to her, based on her reaction. They didn't know of him, and instead talked in length about this man from the town that they dislike, and how the town (which they described as now a trailer park) is not something they're allowed to explore. 08:20 - We learn that Norman is alive and turning Littleroot into a sanctuary and that something that is neither human or Pokemon is at Victory Road. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

08:25 - Sootopolis is dry now, oil seeping from it. May is alive, and traveling with someone from Team Magma. We also learn that Hotono has a history with Team Magma. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

08:30 - We learn that Sidney is dead, but Phoebe is alive. She's been taking bodies to Mt. Pyre to lay them to rest. We also learn that Mt. Chimney is frozen over. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

08:35 - Hotono asks if we came accross any other survivors. Recreo goes to retrieve the Magma Grunts, and I break it to her that they were members of Team Magma. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

08:39 - Recreo returns with Terence and Karina. They know Hotono, and state that 'Maxie was mildly disappointed when she left'. Hotono states that she respects his motives, but not his execution. It is likely that Maxie was the leader of Team Magma. I can also assume that Hotono was a member of Team Magma that defected. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

08:41 - There were two organizations in Hoenn at the same time--the other one was 'Team Aqua'. According to Recreo, remnants of Aqua are still active as pirates. He was told by Rowan to keep an eye out for them. I may need to be even more careful around Recreo, if he's investigating organizations that go against the societal norm. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

08:43 - Hotono releases a Mighthyena (Dark type). Harper runs in to Maudie's room. I follow. See addendum for appearance. She's panicking. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

08:53 - Harper has calmed down enough. I talk her through her feelings. Based on her fears and thoughts of members of the Poochyena line going for her throat, she likely went through something traumatic with the line. I bring up the option of helping her heal; this sort of consistent distraction is unnecessary. She needs to think it through. I reminded her that I'm here to help with her healing, whenever she's ready. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

09:00 - Return to control room (appearance same as addendum). Harper follows after Hotono and Meenah bring up a potential mission that they need us to complete. There's a vibrating stone pyramid on Route 120 that we are to investigate. Hotono will come help. Coat black, hands gloved in cloth.

Mint looked towards the night sky, an azure glimmer in her gaze. It seems her vigor has already been renewed. She'd tied the cloak around herself to keep it from falling away as she finally stood up onto her paws again.

"Are you sure that you're feeling okay?" The mysterious Vulpix continued to look over the previously exhausted hybrid, making sure that she wasn't pushing herself too hard.

"Okay as I can be!! Wooo!" Mint beamed, wiping a few beads of sweat that still remained on her brow. Seems that nothing could keep her down for long. "That was the closest I've gotten to a complete form change! Sure I didn't quite get it, but it was pretty damn close!"

Ashen ran up to the two of them, having noticed Mint activate her power earlier, and wanting to check on her. Though he was worried both that something might've happened, and that Mint would naturally push herself too far. "Hey. Is something up? I saw the blue flames a bit ago!"

"Yea, we're fine. I was just showing off to the Magi a bit." Mint answered with a sheepish grin.

"...And let me guess, you collapsed after burning through your energy?" The hybrid gave a small nod in response, and he just pinched his forehead between his claws in light frustration. After a moment, his gaze turned towards the vulpine nearby. "Who's your friend?" Mint turned towards the fox, not having really gotten its name yet either.

"I'm just a stowaway. Not really much else to it."

"I meant your name."

"I don't... really have one. Didn't really like the one I was given, and never thought of one that I particularly liked."

"Alright. Well, I'm assuming you're gonna want a ride back with us, since I'm sure you've got some stuff going on back home." Ashen said, unable to hide a small smile forming on the corner of his lip. "I guess I can overlook the stowing away since you didn't cause any problems."

Guiding everyone back to the beach, Vivian was standing at the water's edge, staring out towards the horizon. Xe truly enjoyed just... basking in the tranquility, a welcome change from life back home.

"I assume we are all ready to head home?" Xe inquired without even looking at the group, still enjoying the moon's light.

"More or less. Even picked up the extra that snuck along with us." Mint said, nudging the Vulpix's shoulder with her own.

"Really. Well, I would like to get acquainted when we have some extra time. For now, I think it's about time we head home." Vivian finally turned away from the shimmering moon hovering over the water to look at the small Vulpix. "Might I know your name?"

"I don't--" It was interrupted by a ripple appearing in front of them, a hole appearing in the fabric of space being torn open. Though it remained mostly stable for the moment, despite how violently it seemed to have been opened. On the other side of the rift was the Phantom Guild

"Hey, looks like our door's open." Ashen turned to look at the Vulpix and gave a grin. "Don't worry 'bout a thing. I used to stow away all the time back when I was... a different 'mon. We could maybe even get you a spot in the Phantom Guild if that's something you'd be interested in! Comes with some interesting perks."

It didn't have a response to the Salandit's offer. While it'd give it a chance to work towards its own goal, it was clearly not used to being around others. Mint, Ashen, and Vivian stepped through the rift leading directly into the base for the Guild. Taking a deep breath, it followed suit, and things immediately went horribly wrong. The rift began to tear the moment it began to step through, red bolts of energy dancing across the portal, and straight into its body.

"Gyaaa!!" It shrieked, vulpine form dissolving into gray sparks, revealing a form much more akin to a Porygon. Red sparks of energy danced across its entire body, which seemed to power up the tear in space further, beginning to destabilize it. The lights of the room began to flicker, before finally shutting down entirely. In the distance, a loud pop could be heard, likely the sound of the breaker shutting down to prevent a fire, an explosion, or both. Without the power to sustain it, the rift closed behind the Porygon as it collapsed to the ground.

Mint immediately rushed to its side, attempting to use Embers of Life to at least heal some of... whatever that was.

"Hey! Hey c'mon, wake up!" The Porygon2 didn't move or respond to Mint shaking it as she poured her energy into its unconscious body. At least, not beyond a light grumble anyway. Vivian placed a hoof on Mint's shoulder, channeling some of xeir power into her so that she didn't collapse again.

Eris briefly looked over the Porygon. No obvious signs of damage, but something clearly went wrong. "Let's get this one to the infirmary. We can probably find out what happened there. Maize should be getting the power back up soon. Then you can explain why you brought a stranger with you." Mint looked up at the Guildmaster, before giving a nod. Ashen went to Mint's side to help her carry the unconscious shapeshifter.

"Guess this makes us even." Mint said, trying to stay on the positive side of this situation, as she and Ashen worked to get the Porygon to the Phantom Guild's infirmary.

Vivian meanwhile, continued to stare at the unconscious Pokémon as it was carried off, eyes narrowing slightly. "That was no normal surge..." Xe muttered. "... I wonder... Could that Pokémon be..." Vivian began to leave, stepping out towards the entrance to the guild base.

"I need a minute to think about all of this. And if my assumption is right, I will need to have a word with a certain Shaymin regarding a few... inconsistencies to what they told me..."
