sometimes, when i let myself just sort of daydream about cool things i could be doing, some of my “if you love your job you never work a day in your life” (ik its bs bc i love my current job too. but you get the vibe) daydreams is owning a doll store specializing in bjds & art dolls & materials for them with a whole show room, or just being a bjd dealer without a brick and mortar. i’m the type of person who enjoys helping people find and get things, and the times i worked in fields like that (procurement & also regular retail jobs) i really enjoyed it. it’s influenced what my current career path is too. I miss the unique vibe our family tailor shop had brought to our two when i was growing up, and the old fabric & craft store too. I miss the strange antique & vintage store that my grandma would take us too, with the big room that was just full of dolls of all kinds (well, mainly porcelain, bisque & barbies) as well as doll clothes and doll houses. I want to be that for the modern era, for the modern kid and their parent to wander in and look at dolls and related products. Maybe my thing would be BJDs and American Girl Dolls, and i’d help people place orders in person. I’d obviously have a website, but there’s something quaint about during christmas time a parent comes in and buys some american girl dresses. or one of the local college kids in the anime club discovers that this weird shop in their boring college town has BJDs, and they come and look a lot because they’ve always seen them online but never in person. also, it’d be great to be able to see so many dolls and clothes….. but i don’t have to keep them >:) I get to look and maybe display some (those would probably be my own collection) but they’d eventually leave me to their forever home. Muahahaha. That’s like my perfect doll collection ideal.
i dunno, i just think it’d be neat. i’m aware there’s a lot that goes into business, my family are primarily business owners (tailor shop for example, contractors, the like). truly the online only dealer presence would be far better business wise with real estate, loans, and the economy the way it is in my state, so i’d only have to worry about storage.
It’s also such a niche thing that if i ever did it, there aren’t a lot of people to ask about how they started, their pros/cons, etc. I’d love to hear more from people who are dealers of niche hobby things (gundams, figures, toy trains, etc even). anyways, what’s your fun hobby daydream?

I talked with my mom about saving up for Claudie and how I was a little overwhelmed with my other collections. We eventually came to an agreement that the only way I can get Claudie is if I downsize my other collections. So I'm selling almost all of my vintage My Little Ponys plus some other various things like figures and plush that I no longer need. My American Girl cart is around $260 for Claudie, her accessories, winter coat and Courtney's Strawberry Shortcake pajamas and sleeping bag. I have a little over $100 just in leftover Christmas money so that's a start. I feel better about splurging on all these doll things now that I'm getting rid of some stuff.

Note to myself of my collection philosophy now that I'm getting more serious about collecting american girl
In order of importance
1. Dolls in mint to easy to fix condition, Dolls from '86 to '99 are what in looking for pre 91 most desirable but not more important
2. Clothes must have a pleasent company tag the year is less important unless there where major changes (i.e. Molly's Christmas dress had buttons added later on)
3. Accessories if they have tags should be pleasent company otherwise pre Mattel is is desired. Shoes, socks, ribbon etc dont have to be vintage or original
4. Not looking for furniture of any kind unless it's a bundle or a rare deal

Haven't been idle at all these past few days!
On Tuesday I had a scan, got to check those intestines! The contrast was simply disgusting but at least I had dad to cheer me through the process. By the end, all I do was using all my strenght to avoid vomiting the mix.
The nurses were very nice, but as I was dreading, they had lots of problems getting the cannula in. My veins are the worst. I even felt bad for them. Now I've got an enormous bruise on my hand, and today it started getting red around it...I think it may be a reaction to the IV contrast.
I got very nervous inside the machine. I had to lay on my stomach the whole time, and it started hurting just as I was there. My guts were doing sommersaults!! I was very close to having a panic attack.
After that, I had another appointment with my endo in a different hospital. All clear! My hormone levels are back were they should be, and my thyroid markers even went a bit down! Hooray for solsint!
When we arrived back home, I saw the little friend in my photograph! It was cool outside, so the lil' dude was slow and sleepy :')
Thanks to the contrast I felt a bit crummy all day, but I went to work anyways, and I had a great time doing crafts with the little ones!! <3
The next day, we had our work christmas lunch. I got some very nice presents and we had an amazing time. And of course, more crafts!!
Then Friday was the first day of my Christmas holidays. I spent the whole morning running errands, but I felt very acomplished, and proud of myself because I was able to check all the items off my list.
I kind of want to study a new language, considering maybe Irish. However, I feel that I should focus on polishing my English grammar first, and I'd really like to continue with my creative writing course...even if I'm suffering from a writer's block of sorts.
Something that made me happy yesterday: I used a new brush on my american girl doll and it's worked wonders on her hair!! Now, I'm debating whether I'd like to buy a vintage mlp or not.

Rashaad
From Lana you received: Some vintage records
From Itsuki you received: A beer mug
From Kanade you received:A plushie shaped like a Jukebox
Rashaad yawned as another workday (or work night) finally came to an end. The clock had just struck 8:00 A.M. Normally, Rashaad would have been asleep by now, but he had to stay up an extra three hours to do inventory on his stock. He had put it off for weeks now, but with a new shipment coming in soon, he had to check exactly how many bottles he needed. Thankfully, the inventory hadn't taken as long as he had hoped, which meant he could now finally crash for the next six hours or so.
"I really should consider getting an assistant..." Rashaad thought, yawning as he prepared to head upstairs to his room. He had finally made it to the stairs when he heard a knock at the entrance. Groaning, the bartender reluctantly turned around and walked towards the entrance.
"If this is just some drunk..." Rashaad thought as he opened the door, taking a moment to rub the sleep from his eyes first. Opening it, he was surprised to see a young man with glasses and a young girl beside him carrying boxes and bags in their arms. Though he hadn't met them before, Rashaad knew right off that these two were Itsuki Kamiko and Kanade Alarie of Kyoto Division's Starlight Specters. As stated, though he had never met them before, he had seen them in rap battles, and knew them based off of reputation.
His eyes grew wide as the items in their hands were for him and his friends, Ace and Evelyn, both of whom were currently still asleep.
"Thank you both very much," The bartender said, smiling. Realizing that he couldn't let such kind-heartedness go to waste, the bartender held up a finger and rushed inside to the back room, returning a minute or so later with a bottle of wine.
"For Lana," He said, handing it to Itsuki, who traded him for the gifts. "Tell her I wouldn't mind her coming back here... just so long as she as... you know who isn't with her." Smiling, he nodded his head to the two and closed the door, placing the gifts on the counter, sighing.
"Who was that?" Someone asked, from the staircase. The bartender looked as Ace, wearing nothing save some long sweatpants, rubbed the back of his head, still tired. Trailing behind him was his girlfriend, Evelyn, who was, thankfully, dressed in discreet attire, yawning. The two looked at all of the items, a bit surprised.
"What's all this?" Ace asked, walking up to them.
"Christmas gifts," Rashaad answered. "From the Starlight Specters."
"Starlight Specters?" Evelyn repeated, cocking an eyebrow before her eyes rose in realization. "You mean Kanade?! Aww, I wish I could have seen her before she left! I had some outfits I wanted her to try on!"
"Maybe next time, Ms. Rose," Rashaad said, smiling as he looked at the plushie of his jukebox. It looked so much like the one in the corner of his bar. Still smiling, he resolved to place in his room. No way was he living something out in the open for someone to take.
"Wow!" Evelyn exclaimed looking at the portrait of herself painted by Lana. "She really got all of my features downright!" She smirked. "I'd like to see ole what's her name from Saitama look this good!" She looked over at her boyfriend. "Don't you agree, Acey?"
Ace, unfortunately, didn't hear her as he was too busy looking at the keychain of a bear. He didn't want to admit it, but it was very good. He looked at it from all sides, deeply entranced. It reminded him of the teddy bear doll his grandfather had in his room, dressed in a U.S. army suit. Thinking about that brought back good memories.
"Acey?" Evelyn asked, slightly worried.
"Hmm?" Ace responded, looking at his girlfriend, knocked out of his stupor. "Sorry, it's nothing." Pocketing the keychain, he looked over at the other gifts with his friends. As he did, one thought came through his mind.
"Guess every place can have some redeeming qualities about it..."

AN OBJECT PORTRAIT OF MS. LEXIE
· This pink lacy bodysuit from Prague is very special to me. It represents beginnings — my first time abroad, discovering my sexuality, my first TDG event, and learning to think of myself as a proper adult. · Bobby pins are wonderful tools for hairstyling and lockpicking. · Pink candles are for romance and friendship; and pink is my favorite color. · I didn’t believe in makeup for myself until these lipsticks came into my life; I feel powerful in them. · I put little things I’m cherishing in the brass and glass box from time to time. The key tucked inside unlocks a box full of very secret diary entries and letters I had when I was young. · I keep Ms. Heart’s Pretty Face Dirty Mouth handkerchief folded up with vintage handkerchiefs I use for cleaning my violin. Her blog was such an aid as I figured out my sexuality, romance, and desire. It’s a bit naughty; it is a wonderful reminder of how others have helped me become who I am. · A friend gifted me the bowtie hair accessory to wear to the American Girl Doll Store for my 23rd birthday. · I don’t typically wear black lingerie and the navy and gold set helped me fit in a bit among a sea of black clad party goers. The heels are black and starry like the night sky, and surprisingly comfortable. · The “Strength” Card was a gift from another TDG Social Club member. I pulled it in a moment when I needed reminding of my strength; she let me keep it and I pull it out when I need to remind myself. · My mother gifted me with a set of pearls for Christmas in high school. I wore them often, lost them whilst moving in college, and replaced them with this pink set.

My (non-exhaustive) Antique and Vintage Doll Wishlist
1. An 18th-century carved wooden doll (sometimes called Queen Anne dolls)
(Photo from Theriault’s auction house.)
These are...intense. I got to hold one once at a doll show; it was a spiritual experience. She was exquisite, with all her original layers of clothing including tiny separate pockets.
She also cost $25,000. Which would be why you tend to see these in museums more than private collections, barring like...the Elderly European Nobility Collectors(TM) and people who bought them in 1940 for $150 at a junk shop.
So unless a miracle on par with finding a Picasso at a yard sale occurs, I doubt one of these beauties will be gracing my shelf anytime soon. But a girl can dream, right?
2. A Simon and Halbig 1159
(Also a photo from Theriault’s. Theriault’s can have issues with honest representation of auction items, but they’re good for high-quality doll photos.)
This one is more along the order of “if I saved for a year or two very diligently, I could probably make it happen.” She’s just not a high priority with my doll money right now. But as a collector of antique and vintage lady/fashion dolls, I’m definitely keeping my eyes peeled for a good example to snap up someday.
3. An appropriate head for Doll Bod
(Theriault’s again. I doubt Doll Bod’s first frock will be that magnificent, but I can certainly do my best.)
Doll Bod is a jointed wooden body for a fashion doll by the Bru firm of Paris, and completing her is my number one Doll Goal(TM) at the moment. Hence why this list is in no particular order.
She could have the earlier “round face Bru” head, but most of my doll mentors agree that she’s probably meant to be the above-pictured “smiling Bru” model, patented c. 1873. Either way, a wood-bodied French fashion doll has been my ultimate doll dream for almost a decade now, and being so close is incredibly tantalizing.
Fingers crossed it’ll happen sooner rather than later!
4. A lady automaton, preferably the “waltzing lady” or “gliding lady” type
(Do I really have to say it at this point? Just assume Theriault’s unless I say otherwise.)
I’d take any of several types of popular lady automaton, but I do love the ones you wind up and set whirling or gliding across the floor.
5. One of the “Godey Lady” outfits for my Cissy doll.
I’m partial to the blue one in particular, but the pink and purple is cute, too (despite my general disinterest in pink things). These outfits are slightly later than my doll, who was made around 1955 versus the early 1960s release date of the Godey Cissy dolls. And they’re rather rare to find. But I kind of love the idea of having all my Victorian dolls contrasted with one in Midcentury-Does-Victorian.
Okay, and my BJDs in 2010s-20s Does 1920s And Tudor. And my early 1960s Barbie. Which brings me to...
6. A brunette Barbie #3
(Alamy Stock Photos, obviously.)
I like the slightly softer face paint of the #3 and #4 more than the earlier or later ponytail Barbies, and I love the way the #1-3 fade to a pale ivory skin tone with age. My preference for white dolls tends to be very pale or literally white complexions and dark hair; I really love the dramatic contrast.
Fun fact: I have actually purchased a brunette #3 before! At a doll show, when the budget I’d saved up turned out to be more than I needed for the doll I wanted. But I gave her to my mom, as a way of replacing the one she had as a kid that got yard-sold. Made her a little replica of Mom’s favorite childhood Barbie dress- one my great-grandmother hand-sewed. So I’d like one of my own someday.
And then I can dress her and my blonde #5 up as brides and pose them like they’re having the classiest sapphic wedding of 1961.
7. A Black French fashion doll
(La Maison de Poupee Paris Ruby Lane sales page; doll has been sold. She’s by the Francois Gaultier firm of Paris, probably c. 1875-1885.)
All of my dolls, at the moment, are white. That is not intentional. While Black or generally dark-skinned fashion dolls (that weren’t racist nightmare caricatures) did exist pre-1920, they are very rare. And very expensive when they do come on the market. I’ve seen one in person once, but she was way outside my budget.
I’d love at least one example to diversify my collection. And show that- surprise! -there were wealthy Black families in 19th-century Europe and America, and they did have options for gorgeous Black dolls to give their children.
Though if I should be so astronomically lucky as to stumble onto more than one example, I’d probably donate the others to a Black history museum. Or a young Black collector just starting out in the doll world.
I’m unlikely to even get my hands on even one for many more years, if ever. But hey- stranger things have happened.
8. An early French papier-mache doll (sometimes called a “Pauline” doll)
(Doll sold by The Antique Doll Room on Ruby Lane. They don’t all have teeth, not that the teeth are an issue for me.)
These were usually assembled in France, out of papier-mache heads produced in Germany and locally-made leather or cloth bodies. They’re usually from the 1830s-early 60s, and they’re beautiful, and there is one on eBay right now that is tempting me to blow all my Christmas money in one place like you wouldn’t believe HELP
Ahem. Sorry. They’re an important development in the world of western lady dolls and I would very much like one.
9. An Izannah Walker doll
(Photo from a Ruby Lane blog post. There were also Black Izannah Walker dolls and boy variants, but the white female dolls are the most common.)
New England dolls represent! These American pressed-cloth dolls with sculpted and oil-painted faces were made by the artist Izannah Walker of Central Falls, Rhode Island, starting in the 1830s, possibly as early as 1828.
I just think they’re neat.
So, you know. If I ever win the lottery, those will be the first 9 dolls I seek out.
