"Hey, Oliver..."
What if I told you: Villain!Kaz. White flame bc white is the color of evil, as established in MM. His villain name is Khaos btw and it's actually a super convoluted and pretentious reference to the quote "battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster... for if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes into you" (i.e MM and the Arcturion, hahaha). Kaz doesn't know all that though lol
more explanation under the cut + bonus pic(s)
The coat + red laces are from "Night of the Living Nightmare'". I really liked the laces in particular, they clash with the whole emo get-up so much, it sort of signals that he hasnt lost his goodness? Maybe? (You can just barely see the laces in this pic but i didn't feel like searching for another sorry)
Tumblr media
The brown fabric on the left is his little half-cape from "Future Tense" bc I loved it so much. The vest and belt are also inspired by that episode. The vest is a crop-top bc I said so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And for reading all that, you get these bonus additions!

For @laughingphoenixleader, who requested Kanej in a superhero/villain au
(tw for vague mentions of drug deals and human trafficking, though there's nothing explicit)
The streets of Chicago were clogged with criminals. One couldn’t take a step without seeing a carjacking, a drug sale, a mugging. It was the perfect place for a criminal enterprise to begin and flourish.
It shouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone, then, when someone other than the corrupt law enforcement rose up to stop them.
The Wraith. No one had seen her face, but everyone knew the name. A figure in dark clothing, using knives and carrying out judgment against the traffickers and the dealers before disappearing into the shadows again. Those who used humans as a commodity seemed to be the biggest targets.
Which was lucky for the city’s latest big player.
“Kaz Brekker,” Inej murmured, studying the blurry image on the computer screen. He looked young, though how old she couldn’t tell with the quality of the photo. All that was really obvious was dark clothing and hair, a pale face, and the cane in his gloved hand. Both of which look…familiar.
“Why is he on our radar?” she asked Nina, who was slouched in the wheeled chair in front of the computer.
The young woman shrugged. “Possibly because he’s the main suspect in seventeen different robberies, but no one’s been able to prove it. Or because his right hand man shoots like no human being should be able to. There’s also the fact that he sprouted up out of nowhere overnight. Looks like he took control of Per Haskell’s gang, but he was there all along. We just didn’t see him until now.”
Inej frowned. “Why?”
Getting up from her chair, Nina headed towards the kitchenette in the corner of the basement room Inej used as her headquarters. “Probably because he didn’t want to be seen. And you’ve had other, bigger problems on your mind. Toaster waffle?”
Absently, Inej waved her off, mind spinning. Kaz Brekker. If his plan was to set himself up as the crime lord of the city, that could be a problem. Especially if he was as good as Nina said he was. “I might have to pay him a visit,” she muttered, more to herself than anyone else.
Nina answered anyway as she popped two waffles into the toaster. “Just do me a favor and don’t get stabbed. I have class tonight, and stitching you up doesn’t actually count as homework.”
Despite her cavalier words, Inej could hear the concern hiding behind them, and she smiled. “I’ll be careful, Nina. I promise.”
The other woman didn’t look overly comforted, but nodded all the same.
Later that night, after Nina had cajoled her into eating and resting, then swept off to her night class at Ravka University, Inej slipped out of her civilian clothes and into her suit. It wasn’t quite Superman quality, but the clothing was comfortable and good for sneaking and climbing. She checked to make sure her knives and gear were all secure, and set off into the night.
Brekker seemed to have set up shop at the Crow Club downtown. Inej knew of the place, but Per Haskell—the former owner—had never caused enough trouble for her to have risked the trip, not yet. She’d had bigger prey to track.
Slipping in was a simple matter. One of the windows was unlocked, and Inej eased through into what looked like an office. A desk lined with papers and books stood in the middle, with a cot pushed up against one wall. Does Brekker live here?
A key clicked in the lock, and Inej ghosted into a dark corner, keeping her steps quiet and smooth. A second later, the door swung open, and Kaz Brekker stepped inside, limp obvious, cane swinging.
She caught the barest glimpse of pale skin and high cheekbones before his back was to her, standing at the desk. His movements precise, he flipped through a file, gloved fingers tapping against the outside.
The tapping paused, and his head lifted a little. Then he spoke, his voice rasping and rough.
“The Wraith, I presume.”
How did he know I was here? Inej brushed aside the surprise. There was no use in pretending now. She moved out of the shadows, and Brekker turned to face her.
Inej’s heart skipped a beat. Not for any silly, romantic reasons—though the young man facing her was handsome enough, in a severe way. He was all sharp angles and dark shades, his dark brown eyes taking her in like she was a problem to be solved.
No, the reason her heart skipped a beat was because she knew him.
She hadn’t known his name at the time. But they’d met once, years ago. Before Inej became the Wraith, before she’d escaped the life that had driven her to take this path.
The police had found her. An undercover cop, Detective Nazyalensky, had made contact, and promised her that if she informed on Heleen and her entire organization, she would go free. Inej had been going to meet her the day of the bust when Heleen had summoned her into her office.
She’d known. Inej was sure of it, and if she went into that office, she would be beaten, or sold, or worse. Fear had threatened to choke her, and she’d wavered. Should she run? But she wouldn’t have made it, not if Heleen wasn’t distracted.
And then he’d walked in. He couldn’t have been more than sixteen, but carried himself like a full grown man. But he didn’t look at the girls as he came in, and that struck Inej as curious. The other customers ogled freely.
Maybe he wasn’t a customer. Perhaps he was one of the information dealers who came to Heleen for what the girl’s customers knew. In which case…
She moved toward him quietly, her feet brushing the floor. He was standing at the door of Heleen’s office, facing away from her when she said, “I can help you.”
He’d been startled when he turned to face her, though it faded quickly. He’d lifted an eyebrow, looking a little curious when Heleen’s voice had rung out from the office.
“Enough hiding, little lynx! I said I wanted to see you, and I want to do it now.”
Inej had flinched, unable to prevent the visions flooding her mind. The boy facing her frowned, just a little. Then, he’d spoken. Not to her, but to Heleen.
“You have an appointment to keep with me, Heleen. Haskell won’t wait forever.”
Grumbling, Heleen had appeared at the office door and waved for the boy to follow her in. Before he moved away, the boy had looked at her. “Don’t let them see your tell,” he’d said, voice too quiet to Heleen to make out. “And don’t look back.”
He’d entered the office, and Inej knew. It was time to run.
And so she did. She made it, and Heleen was locked up 24 hours later. Inej was free, and it was thanks to the actions of a stranger.
He had, whether he knew it or not, been the reason she’d gotten away, the reason she’d been able to tell the police everything.
His eyes narrowed a little as he looked at her, and for a second Inej thought, He knows. But then—no. He couldn’t. Her face was covered, and it had been close to four years since her escape.
“And you’re Kaz Brekker,” she said, keeping her voice cool. Business like. “The newest boss on the block.”
“Here to stop me?” Brekker asked, an eyebrow going up. “Bring me to justice like the Black Heretic? The Lantsov family?”
“The police took the Lantsov family,” Inej said, and Brekker snorted.
“The police in this town couldn’t solve their way out of a cardboard box. You handed them the arrest.”
He’s smart. “How do you know that?”
“I make it my business to know.” Folding his hands over his cane, he said, “So, what have I done to merit your attention? I thought I’d kept a fairly low profile.”
“You haven’t done anything. Yet,” Inej said, letting her hand rest on the knives at her waist. Brekker’s gaze followed the movement for only a heartbeat before locking back onto her masked face.
“Ah. Threatening me into submission. Interesting method. Unfortunately for you, I have plans that can’t be put on hold. And you don’t kill anyone unless what they’ve done meets your criteria.”
Inej wouldn’t show her surprise. “You’ve done your research.”
“It’s good to know who I’m dealing with. And to know how you intend to be rid of me.” Continuing, he said, “If you were going to kill me, I’d be dead. Everyone you don’t kill gets handed over to the police, and there’s nothing on me for the police.” The thinnest sliver of a smile appeared. “So, Wraith, your threats are to no avail.”
Oh, he could be dangerous. “Then consider this an appeal to your better nature,” Inej told him.
He laughed, sharp and bitter. “I don’t have one.”
“You have common sense. Don’t give me a reason to come after you, and I won’t.” Inej met his gaze, hoping he would see the intent in her eyes.
He was still for a moment, then inclined his head. “Then perhaps I will see you again, Wraith. Or perhaps not. We’ll see what your code dictates.”
Without another word, he turned back to his desk. Inej hesitated for a fraction of a second, then slipped out the window. Activating the ascension cable she wore strapped to her wrist, she fired it and swung out across the city. She needed to find somewhere to think before her nightly patrols began.
She had a feeling then that she would meet Kaz Brekker again. And she truly didn’t know if she hoped for it or dreaded it.

“I don’t know how to come back from being afraid of you, Jes. It took… it took so long, and it took so much from me to get here and in one moment I felt like all of it could unravel so quickly, so easily. It’s so much easier to destroy it than it was to build it, and I don’t know if I have enough left in me to build it back up again. Definitely not if, somewhere inside me, I know that one day I’ll just lose it all again,”
- Inej, Chapter 11 of Our Gods Have Abandoned Us (aka the angstiest thing I have ever written)
Chapter 11 coming out tonight!! It’s an emotional one folks (aren’t they all) so buckle in…
Thank you all so much for all the support on this fic so far <333

Too bad i am a bad and lazy writter, sun summoner!Kaz would end up with Kaz and Inej on their knees, covered in blood and touching foreheads in the middle of a room, surounded by the dead bodies of the darkling , Baghra and Ivan.
Details? Kaz tried to drown the darkling when he found out about Genya, not to say he already was close to figure out Inej was the third amplifier and she was not going to be chained and having this man use her to hunt the other amplifiers. As they were strugling, Ivan started to stop Kaz´s heart but Inej´s knife landed on his head. The darkling freed one of his hands and tried to cut Inej , but Baghra (who was hidding in the shadows, not blind in this au) knew about she being the amplifier and shoved her out of the way, so her son can't get more powerfull. This results in the cut reaching Bahgra instead and the darkling´s shock over killing his mother allowed Kaz an Inej to end him there.

Modern AU where Kaz wins the fuck out of The Traitors bc he a) can evade suspicion by charming people bc he's a young white boy with the gift of the gab and that seems to always work on this thing b) he's the perfect TV villain and c) he has zero qualms about manipulating a load of randoms. He wins £120k through sheer reality TV cutthroat behaviour and everyone's like. Wow he must really be in this for the money. All about the money for this guy. And then he sits down in the confessional and says 'oh I'm gonna give it to my girlfriend'. Twitter blows up

Aus I want to see for AFTG but i don't have the writing juice (depression straw is currently more powerful) to write them myself at present however I do want to write these. If you know of fics that are these Aus, please tell me and I'll astral project to kiss your forehead.
Shadow and Bone- Neil as Alina is not required but whoever is Alina better not end up with whoever is Mal. I'm a Malina hater first and foremost boys not gonna lie. I would also appreciate any Six of Crows Aus for the Foxes as well. Neil as Kaz makes logical sense to me ya know? Andrew obviously as Inej. Everyone else idk.
Secret History- I have no idea how I'd do this as a direct mirror Au (character for character), but something like how If we were Villains is an Au of this book, that could work better I think, put Exy in place of the area of academia, have them murder a guy. If we go character for character... Neil obviously as Richard, Nicky works well for Francis, Kevin as Henry OR Camilla, Aaron as Charles, Andrew as Camilla OR Henry, Riko as Charles OR Bunny. Pick a Bunny based on weather you wanna utilize an in universe death (Seth), or if you don't understand the grey morality of the murder and hate Riko (Riko), or if you are a Riko apologist but do understand the grey morality of the story (Riko), or you wanna really highlight the grey morality and want specifically AFTG fans to get it (Dan or Renee). Everyone else? idk.
The Great Gatsby- This would be such a hear me out fic. Similar to previous it depends on how you analyze both stories. Kevin could be Daisy, Tom would be played by Riko, Gatsby as either Neil or Andrew, Nick as either Neil or Andrew, idk about Jordan, Myrtle as Jean or Seth. And it all depends on who you ship in the original novel and the series, this could be a great Kandriel fic I think, (Daisy is based on Fitzgerald's wife and the narrator is not just her cousin, he's also Fitzgerald's author insert so they have a lot of tension). The benefit of a Gatsby fic I think is the sheer angst at the end.
Dracula- I don't care how, I just want to see it.
Anyways thats a non extensive list of Aus I may never write but that I think about sometimes.

asking you about the au hiii
(This is about my villain!Kaz AU)
OK, so. The AU isn't actually that well thought-out? It's just a 'what if Kaz and Oliver getting their power from the Arcturion had consequences + EF was better'.
It starts with the EF team hunting down the people who destroyed Mighty Med (Rodissius & co. dont exist). They encounter some type of League of Villains who want to destroy all heroes blah blah. Meanwhile Kaz & Oliver are still dealing w Oliver's mom and the Arcturion's consequences. Oliver becomes convinced that he's a Dangerous Individual who's going to Snap at any minute. As an extension of this, he develops OCD, specifically harm and contamination OCD, as well as compulsions centering around safety and whatnot.
The League of Villains is beating the EF so bad that eventually they realize that there's -- gasp -- a traitor in their midst! Annnd the traitor is Kaz (dw, it's later revealed that Kaz was just pretending so that he could destroy the League from the inside).
Oliver is absolutely devastated by Kaz's betrayal but eventually learns to be independent and stand on his own.
Also: guess who else is in the League? All our favorite villains, including Megahertz, Experion, Marcus, hell possibly even Troy if I can squeeze him in. Also Daniel (Danielle in this AU bc i <3 transfems). Sebastian is not in the League bc he's gone rogue and no one's seen him in forever.
I think it'll end with Bridget helping him destroy the League? But again idk, I'm not actually writing it (yet?), just imagining it.
B-plots:
- Marcus was found by Megahertz instead of Giselle and they develop a father-son relationship.
- The government discovered Danielle years before Bionic Island so she's been locked up the whole time, Marcus briefly teams up with Tecton in order to save her, she goes with Tecton at first but he's not supportive of her bloodthirsty vigilantism so she goes back to Marcus and Megahertz.
- Marcus + Tecton bonding time!
- Bridget & Nelson team up.
- Alan is alive, Horace is not.
- Leo and Adam at the Academy.
- Issues with the government, the Academy, and hero/villain politics are brought up.

Trust Me Not AU Character Stuff
Ok ok so I was going to wait for my boyfriend and just keep posting art, but he’s going to be busy for a while so I’m just gonna do this!! Also…I warned y’all that this was a lot of text…so <3
I’m doing the major relationship/personality changes, so characters we haven’t planned on changing or haven’t gotten to yet won’t get things. Mostly, the characters that I’m talking about are Sword, Rocket, Medkit, Zuka, and Broker. I may mention Venomshank, Ban Hammer, and Darkheart, but they haven’t changed much? They’re just here as of now. Crazy how we haven’t planned anything for the Blackrock phighters, especially because this is a Blackrock centered AU…
I don’t really have art to go with this…! Though I may draft it and make doodles (you’ll be able to see if I did lol, only one who has a crazy different design at the moment is Rocket though, so). Anyway! Ramble central time…
Rocket:
Tumblr media
Rocket’s personality is still very chaotic. He’s hyper, though he’s a little more violent than before (more because of pent-up anger than actual aggression). His temper seems to be easily triggered and he’s very quick to snap back with dry humor or sharp retorts. Honestly, he’s still Rocket, he just has more temper and attitude caused by him trying to burry emotions and come off as “tough enough” to be in Blackrock (and to help himself deal with the choice he made to abandon everyone he cared about just because he was upset).
Rocket’s relationship with his father is rocky at best, not because he doesn’t love Zuka, but because of the chain of arguments they had that led to Rocket running away. Rocket’s mad at Zuka for banning him from phights for what he sees as “a dumb reason” (he was involved in an accident that blew off part of his horn…and almost did worse). He feels like Zuka’s taken away one of his favorite things unwarranted, and the constant scolding for the week after his grounding wasn’t helpful. This anger towards Zuka is why Rocket stops carving his horns once he runs away.
Rocket’s relationship with Sword is still very important to him, despite his very obvious efforts to push Sword away (this is a Swocket AU…idk what y’all expected 😣). He was never mad at Sword, but he felt he needed space, even if that space allowed his thoughts to wander and gave him horrible ideas. He cares very much for Sword, and abandoning him was a hard decision for Rocket, but he felt like if he was going to go through with running away to Blackrock he had to cut all ties. The reason he doesn’t kill Sword during all their encounters is because he cares for him, though he still wounds him as a way of warning him to keep away (which doesn’t work). He’s absolutely crushed when he kills Sword, it was completely unintentional and it’s a very harsh wake-up call.
Rocket’s relationship with Broker hasn’t changed much, though tension has eased slightly (or it had before Rocket ran away). Rocket appreciated how Broker had laid off him though, even if Zuka didn’t. He’s not as mad at Broker as he is at Zuka.
Rocket’s relationship with Medkit doesn’t change until after Sword’s death. He’s currently on the run from Medkit, and he’s rather intimidated by him. Rocket understands his life is on the line more so now than it was before.
Rocket has Ban Hammer on speed dial…that…that is all…
Sword:
Tumblr media
Sword’s a lot more tired and visibly stressed now. The others are getting more worried about his mental state as he seems to be coming apart at the seams. His thoughts are more scrambled and his head is fuzzy. He’s trying his best here guys…
Sword has been getting very close with Zuka, spending more time with him than with his own father (but like, when did he really hang out with his father to begin with?). Part of Sword wants to be upset with Zuka for how hard he was on Rocket, but he can’t bring himself to do it because he was also worried for Rocket’s safety and he knows how guilty and upset Zuka feels. He promises to try and reach Rocket to mend the relationship.
Sword’s relationship with Rocket is a hot mess right now. He cares so much for Rocket, and this situation is tearing him apart from the inside out. He feels extremely guilty and responsible for Rocket running away because he believes he didn’t try hard enough to reach through to Rocket while he was clearly hurting and upset. His forced optimism that his Rocket is still in there despite everyone telling him otherwise pushes him to romanticize the fights they have, often letting Rocket win intentionally because he doesn’t want to hurt Rocket…even though it’s very obvious Rocket is willing to hurt him. While his head is more clear while he’s around Rocket, he lets his emotions cloud his judgement, which ends up in his death. He has a moment of clarity right before he dies, sharing his feelings with Rocket as his final words.
Sword is skeptical of Broker still, he keeps Rocket’s dislike for the demon in mind when around him. Though, he’s beginning to wonder why Rocket has such a strong hatred for him. He’s witnessed Broker seem genuinely worried for Zuka (often trying to find ways to cheer him up) and knows he’s been trying to find Rocket himself. He has tried to stay optimistic and have faith in Broker.
Sword trusts Medkit with his life, sharing all of his concerns and anxieties with him. He feels the most safe when he’s around Medkit now that he doesn’t have Rocket (they still have that brother-like relationship, that’s based and is NOT going anywhere).
Sword’s relationship with Venomshank is very poor. Venomshank is the main demon telling Sword to give up on Rocket, so he’s not too pleased with him at the moment. Despite their rocky relationship, Sword tries his best to impress his father.
Medkit:
Tumblr media
Medkit’s personality does not change until after Sword’s death. He becomes more irrational in his thinking and rather impulsive (acting out of greif). This leads him to be increasingly more reckless and aggressive.
Medkit feels bad for Zuka, offering his assistance in trying to find Rocket. He ends up getting captured by Ban Hammer because of this. While he respects Zuka, he grows rather frustrated with him once Sword dies, claiming that Zuka should not shelter Rocket and that he must be accountable for his actions. He doesn’t do anything to intentionally harm/upset Zuka, though he understands that his actions will do so anyway.
Medkit cares deeply about Sword, seeing him as a little brother and someone he has to look out for (no matter how reckless or irritating he can be). Watching Sword suffer so much made Medkit wish he could help more, which leads to him agreeing to help in the search. He misses Sword very much and has made it his goal to avenge his death.
Medkit doesn’t want to trust Broker, but he does. He’s seen how Broker’s been trying his best to find Rocket (and how he helped Medkit escape Banlands) and tries his best to put his personal opinions aside for the time being. However, he wishes Broker wouldn’t let Zuka coddle Rocket as much as he does (after Sword’s death).
Medkit felt bad for Rocket initially, he really wanted to believe that things would work out, even despite the fact that Rocket gets him arrested by Ban Hammer. However, after he learned Rocket had killed Sword, it didn’t matter if it was intentional or not, he felt things had gone too far. He feels Rocket isn’t taking the effects of his actions to heart as much as he should, and hopes to avenge Sword by bringing Rocket to justice…whatever that means…
He’s not fond of Venomshank. He feels that his parenting needs to be heavily improved upon (big brother instincts, we love to see it). After Sword’s death, Medkit is disgusted by the fact that Venomshank seems rather indifferent, saying that Sword “should’ve heeded the warnings.” If he wasn’t preoccupied trying to take down Rocket, Venomshank would be labeled as “the problem” and probably “the target”…
Medkit constantly complains about how Scythe will have his head for how much time he’s devoting to this mess. He seems intimidated by her more than truly being afraid of her.
Broker:
Tumblr media
Broker is Broker (he hasn’t been changed much, he’s one of our WIP characters)! Most of his personality changes consist of caring about Zuka’s well-being. While it seems like he’s trying to improve on expressing empathy, he’s still heavily manipulative and sly, leading to everyone wondering how much he actually cares about the situation.
BrokerZuka ended up canon here…so bear with me…(😞/silly). Broker feels the need to constantly check-up on Zuka. He tries to tell Zuka that this isn’t his fault, but to no avail. Zuka seems to be the only one he obviously cares for, as he constantly is much gentler and empathetic towards Zuka. After Sword’s death, he took a step back from meddling in Zuka and Rocket’s relationship, allowing Zuka to handle it how he saw fit. He doesn’t feel like Zuka is handling it right, but he doesn’t want to upset anyone after all that’s happened.
Broker knows Sword is upset. He’s tried to have small chats about things with him, but is often brushed off, much to his frustration. He can tell Sword is trying to warm up to him, which he appreciates, but it’s still very obvious that Sword doesn’t trust him entirely. In an attempt to keep things lighthearted, he frequently tries to tease Sword and crack jokes (Sword doesn’t act like he enjoys it though).
He knows Rocket dislikes him, but he still tries to bond with him…definitely just for Zuka’s sake. While he agreed that Rocket should’ve been more careful, Broker began to take notice of how the constant criticism and arguing began to weigh on the kid. He stopped taking Zuka’s side and just started staying out of it. He tried to talk to Rocket multiple times, but he would get brushed off and blocked out. When Rocket ran away, he decided to take matters into his own hands (after Rocket gets Medkit captured by Ban Hammer). He thought that talking to Rocket would fix things, though he is frustrated when he is shut down again (and joins Medkit in Banlands). After Sword’s death, Broker is distant from Rocket in an attempt to give him space. He feels bad, but knows that nothing will get Rocket to talk to him.
Broker teases and toys with Medkit in an attempt to keep things relatively “normal” between them. After Sword’s death, he began keeping a closer eye on Medkit because he knew how close he had been with Sword. Upon learning about Medkit’s plans to deal with Rocket, Broker starts being more prickly around him. He’s trying to come up with a way to deal with Medkit before anything happens.
Ban Hammer…when I catch you Ban Hammer…when I catch you…
Broker is pushing his luck with Scythe due to how much time (and resources) he’s putting inti finding Rocket. He knows Scythe is already annoyed about Medkit spending time on this rather than on his mission, and Broker can tell she isn’t pleased with him either. He’s trying to keep her from flipping her top.
Zuka:
Tumblr media
(Another WIP character) Zuka is rather reserved and quiet. He’s constantly tired and always seems ridden with guilt. It’s very obvious he fears the worst and blames himself. He seems to drag himself around all day trying to “fix” the issue himself. While he would like to go solo, he’s made it obvious that he can’t.
Zuka’s relationship with Rocket isn’t the best. He’s very concerned for Rocket, though he doesn’t express it properly and it leads to several minor conflicts. He feels extremely guilty about Rocket running away, and watching Rocket go to Blackrock was a personal blow to Zuka (it affected him a lot more than he’d like to admit, especially the way that Rocket changed his whole appearance). After Sword’s death, he attempts to comfort Rocket, though it comes off more as babying. He’s very worried about Rocket’s mental state.
Zuka really appreciates how Sword is trying to stay positive in this situation. He can tell how stressful and upsetting it is for Sword, so he tries to be understanding and patient with him (even though half the time it comes off as Zuka just being too tired to fully care). He feels bad that Sword is beating himself up about Rocket leaving and makes attempts to cheer him up frequently.
Broker is the one demon that Zuka seems to confide in. He doesn’t want to seem like a burden/worry Broker, but Broker clearly sees through it. Zuka takes comfort in how Broker tries to help him through this whole thing no matter how many times he tries to say he’s fine. Even though Zuka tries to hide it, Broker always ends up getting him to spill his feelings. He’s grateful Broker is willing to help as much as he is, and he’s even more grateful he has someone with him during this.
Zuka appreciates Medkit’s help as much as he appreciates everyone else’s. He knows Medkit is helping more because he wants to help Sword, but that doesn’t matter to Zuka…until Sword dies. Broker informed Zuka about Medkit’s plans, so Zuka’s trust for Medkit is almost completely gone. He’s cautious around Medkit and avoids bringing up Rocket.
Zuka is two seconds from storming up to Scythe and telling her to calm down/j unless…

Grisha!Kaz Brekker Alternate Universe fanfiction recommendations
part of Lunar's soc fanficiton rec series
-------------------------------✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧----------------------------------
The Etovost Plague by Spikey44
Wordcount: 139k Chapters: 37/37
Characters: Kaz Brekker, Inej Ghafa, Jesper Fahey, Wylan Van Eck, Nina Zenik, Kuwei Yul-Bo
Tags: Grisha Kaz Brekker, Post-Canon, Dead Matthias Helvar, Sorry, Not KoS/RoW canon compliant, Kaz is a Tidemaker. Sort of, some gore, scenes of plague, Don't worry only characters no one cares about die, Implied/Referenced Self-Harm
Author's summary/notes: Twenty-eight months after Kuwei Yul-Bo was shot dead and the plague sirens sounded throughout Ketterdam a new and terrifying sickness sweeps through the Barrel: a plague with a unique connection to Jurda Parem. But this time it’s not the Grisha who need to fear. It’s everyone else. This becomes that, and like no longer calls to like, forcing old crows to wing back to Ketterdam as chaos unlike anything they have seen before erupts through the Barrel, threatening to destroy all of Ketterdam and plunge the world into war. But it's a more personal fear that haunts Inej, Nina, Jesper and Wylan when Dirtyhands goes missing at the start of the plague outbreak. Now the Crows must grapple with the sorrow that Kaz may be dead and the even greater terror that the Etovost scourge has turned the Barrel's resident monster into a living nightmare hell-bent on destroying them all. Post-canon AU where a new Jurda Parem variant transforms normal people into Grisha. Starting with the Barrel Bosses. Uh-oh! My summary/notes: Having Kaz turn into a grisha is such an intruiging concept and I ate it up, at the same time its tragic because of the way being a tidemaker effects him and triggers his trauma. It will get real intense so be prepared. The villain in this fic is so interesting. An unexpected intersting part of this fic was reading the crows be a team without having Kaz as their leader sometimes. I love Inej in this fic so much. BAMF's Inej and Anika. Inej and Kaz have some cute moments. The ending eeee. My quick summary is the barrel goes to shit when a plague enters.

Author's summary/notes: Inej Ghafa is a talented acrobat, but only her closest family knows that she uses her special power during her performances. Wylan Van Eck was sent to Ravka to be trained as a Grisha, but when he returns years later, his home is no longer his home. Matthias Helvar has powers he never asked for, and his family wants to keep him safe. What is the best way to hide Grisha in Fjerda? Among the drüskelle. Nina Zenik is a soldier of the First Army, gifted with excellent language skills. Jesper Fahey moves with his mother to Ketterdam after the tragic death of his father and the loss of their farm due to debts. Kaz Brekker has powers that no one has seen before. Or? My summary/notes: This fic is part of a series so there is a part 2 that is being regularly updated. Be prepared for this fic to simultaneously destroy and heal you. I live for the use of flower symbolism, its so adorable. I loved learning about the kind of grisha Kaz is, and reading Inej as a grisha is just so cool I need more grisha!Inej. Matthias being a grisha is so interesting, and reading Nina + Jesper as normal is so fascinating. Aditi is queen and this fic has Pim and Anika, I love those two so much.

The Bastard's Brother by FlatApple

Characters: Kaz Brekker, Inej Ghafa, Jesper Fahey, Dregs Ensemble, Jordie Rietveld, Wylan Van Eck, Nina Zenik, Matthias Helvar, Jan Van Eck, Original Background Characters, (they're not important don't worry)
Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Alternate Universe - Kaz is a Grisha, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Starvation, Touch-Averse Kaz Brekker, Haphephobia, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder - PTSD, Pre-Canon, Canon-Typical Violence, Canonical Character Death, Organized Crime, Whump, Kaz Brekker is Bad at Feelings, POV Kaz Brekker, (mostly), Paranormal, Graphic Description of Corpses, Kaz Brekker is a feral orphan for large portions of this, Corpsewitch Kaz, Warning for strong language, Gang Violence, Heist, Slow Burn, Kaz Brekker-centric, Canon Rewrite, Ghost Jordie Rietveld, Good Sibling Jordie Rietveld, BAMF Kaz Brekker, Pining, Implied/Referenced Child Abuse, Sickfic, Hurt Kaz Brekker, Fever Dreams
Author's summary/notes: Kaz Brekker’s Mother was Ketterdam. His Father was profit. But Kaz Brekker’s Brother? That was Death. Or, the one where Kaz has been a Corpsewitch all along. My summary/notes: Reading Jordie as a ghost was so sad, the author managed to write him so well, this fic answers the question of what would Jordie's reactions be to Kaz's ruthless actions. We get to see young struggling feral kaz (it will break your heart) and we get to see Kaz grow. Every dynamic between the crows is explored and its so interesting to read. This fic part of a series and there is more.

The Bastard Saint of the Barrel by Spikey44
Wordcount: 152k Chapters: 46/46
Characters: Kaz Brekker, Inej Ghafa, Nina Zenik, Matthias Helvar, Jesper Fahey, Jordie Rietveld, Pekka Rollins, Wylan Van Eck, Jan Van Eck, Kuwei Yul-Bo
Tags: Grisha Kaz Brekker, Jordie Rietveld Lives, Kaz is Corporalnik this makes everything worse, Kaz is a Dime Lion, Pekka Rollins owns Kaz's indenture, Jordie is Dregs, Kaz has a new alias, A Kaz by any other name is still a bastard, Inej remains awesome in all realities, Jordie makes the deal with Jan Van Eck, Matthias is probably gonna live, Elements of Six of Crows reworked with Living Jordie/Grisha Kaz, Canon Disabled Character, Touch-Averse Kaz Brekker, warning for drug use eg: Jurda Parem and its effects, warning for mild depersonalisation and dissociation in ch 8
Author's summary/notes: In a story of star-crossed brothers, where Kaz's grisha powers save Jordie but don't save him from Pekka Rollins, Kaz becomes the Bastard Saint of the Barrel; Rollins personal Healer and the most feared Grisha to haunt Ketterdam's seedier streets. This upsets Jordie quite a bit. In an attempt to pay off Kaz's indenture, and save his brother from the threat of Jurda Parem, Jordie Rietveld, Dregs Lieutenant and confidence man, makes a deal with Jan Van Eck to perform an impossible heist. Naturally, Kaz, busybody extraordinaire, is not about to let his brother screw up in a foreign land alone. He's going to steal his brother's heist and one Bo Yul-Buyur --or his nearest relative, whatever works best --and save his idiot big brother from a Fjerdan prison. And if this means running out on Rollins -well, thirty thousand Kruge should be more than enough money to pay his way out trouble. Right? My summary/notes:

Newest chapter of Our Gods Have Abandoned Us is posted! Thanks so much to everyone reading and/or engaging with this fic <33
Please be aware this is a dark story and some aspects of this chapter may link to themes of war, genocide, drug addiction, ptsd, implied sa references, grief, and death
Work summary below cut :)
"Of course they do, Jes," Kaz flexed his fingers in his gloves, "That's what losing a war means. And when that war comes, Kerch can't afford for Shu Han to win it. They'll back Fjerda against Ravka now so that when Shu Han turn against them Fjerda will back them in return. Ravka's navy will fall to Kerch's, most of Ravka's territory will go to Fjerda and if it has any money left then I expect plenty of it will be given to Kerch as part of the deal. The Shu will move against Fjerda to take back the territories they were trying to win from Ravka, and Fjerda will pay them little mind until they declare war on Kerch. Novyi Zem will back Shu Han, because they still think their trade ambassador was killed by the Kerch in what was actually Shu Han's last attempt to start a war over here, Fjerda will back Kerch, refugees will flee to the Wandering Isle and their economy won't be able to withstand it, and meanwhile I will remain exactly where I am and get drunk toasting to the end of the world. You're all welcome to join me,"
OR -
A Van Eck wins AU, mostly exploring how the Crows would respond to the situation but I have some semblance of a larger plot forming I just need to piece it together

Kaz: He doesn't look like a villain, Chase.
Chase: *sigh* *walks over to Oliver and puts an eye patch on him*
Kaz: OHHH! Now I see it!
