I tried playing a bit of the first starfy game on Nintendo Switch Online last night and like. I feel like having it untranslated is just about worse than not having it at all tbh like there's so much text I and I have no idea what's going on
I don't really feel like this is quite a game where they can be like, ehh, the text doesn't matter, unlike with Panel de Pon and such having these games on there just makes the service feel even messier than it already did
and like. its not like nintendo can't make the effort either, they developed a whole new bit of emulation technology for super mario 64 in 3D all-stars that injects new text into the game in real time so they could translate it into more languages
nintendo switch online is like. the lowest effort retro content they have ever done and it sucks and I hate it hgfghjk

y'know every time i feel guilty about bothering someone by singing along when i'm listening to music, i just remember that i have to tolerate my dirtbag brother screaming at his ps5 for hours every day so listening to muffled off-key fall out boy is probably preferable

indie games are safe!!
good news! unity has walked back a lot of the runtime fee!
they made a blog post outlining their new terms, the link is here. but if you want a sparknotes version, here's the highlights:
1. the runtime fee is not retroactive. previously released games are safe.
2. the fee only applies to the next major version of unity. developers can choose not to upgrade if they don't want do deal with it.
3. the fee is opt-in and number of installs is self-reported. if they'd prefer, developers can instead pay a 2.5% revenue share. (for reference, unreal is 4%.)
4. interestingly, the splash screen is being completely removed. this is probably a way to improve their reputation.
overall, this is a HUGE improvement! but, if I remember right, there was not any revenue share before, so, we are not at the same point we started. unity will still be taking a larger cut of developers' revenue if they choose to use newer features. but, it is nowhere near as drastic as we thought it would be.
overall, I think we're in a stable spot now, but I also think unity has lost most if not all of the trust it had. especially with indies. there has already been a mass exodus, and I kinda hope that will keep going.

*takes you by the shoulders and shakes violently* listen to me. You have to listen to me. I don’t have enough time to explain.
Aaron Minyard opened his acceptance letter into med school with every. Single. One. Of the og 9 (10 in our hearts) foxes present. (Plus Wymack and Abby). He was surrounded by his entire family when he opened those results.
When he got in it was the only time any of them had seen Aaron cry. Andrew had such a tight grip on the back of Aaron’s neck during it he almost left bruises. Neil was holding his hand (neither will admit to doing such a thing). Nicky sobbed (Erik was on video call when Aaron opened the results. Erik got noise complaints from how excitedly he was cheering). Kevin finally realized medicine was Aaron’s exy and was happily shaking Aaron’s shoulders.
It goes down in fox history as one of the best moments for all of them. The photos hang on the fox wall in the foxhole court.
Wymack and Abby both keep framed photos of Aaron with his acceptance letters in their offices (right next to the photos they keep of all og 9 foxes getting their offers for pro teams).
Edit:
I FORGOT KATELYN OH FUCK
I’m at work rn but tonight I revise ok ok ok I promise (Katelyn my fellow red head I’m so sorry 😭)

Not to get too sentimental or bias about a game I cherish dearly, but do you know what the biggest endorsement I can give for playing Okami is?
I truly believe that game helped me want to be an even kinder person. Okami, at its core, is a game about spreading love and being loved in return from the biggest to the smallest moments.

i’m rewatching scott’s double life for the first time in two years. and his first episode is The aromantic experience. everyone around you is asking if you’ve found your soulmate and you point to your best friend and say “well yeah we’re soulmates now” and they say “HA! FAKE SOULMATES!!!” and then “well i just can’t WAIT until you find your REAL soulmate, i’m having SO MUCH FUN with mine!” it’s like when someone walks up to you and tells you that someday someone will change your mind. and you watch everyone around you get happy and comfortable and settle down with one other person in a tight-knit way that you don’t understand and they’re in shock and disbelief and they stare at you weird when you point to your best friend and tell people that you live together

I could not get into project zomboid it has too many controls and mechanics and things to remember and think about and too much stress
I've been realizing lately that I like games best if they have like one or two mechanics and at most two buttons to press at once like I had an awful time with mario and luigi partners in time because you have to keep track of four buttons at once, and I get extremely confused trying to play ddr style rhythm games with four inputs like as soon as it starts giving me patterns with more than two buttons at once I just die hfghjkl
and of course I don't even begin to comprehend fighting games it took people years to get me to grasp the concept of shielding in super smash bros.

Got Toya's Sanrio card and these interactions are so funny... VBS has been on the RW grind lately in Ensekai so kind of I forgot how fun their more light-hearted interactions were

Took one glance at the Amazon trailer and got exactly what I was worried about. This ghoul is barely seasoned! Even the fallout 4 ghouls had more visible wear and tear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two are from New Vegas and Fallout 3 respectively. And they are a showcase of what ghoulification in the lore is, extreme radiation poisoning. They look diseased and damaged on purpose.

At one point a friend gave me a Nvidia Shield which is like an Xbox controller with a screen and it can play emulators and stuff. I got so excited, there were so many games I hadn’t played on N64 that I really wanted to try!
So I set it up and got Ocarina of Time, Banjo Kazooie, Pokémon Snap, Kirby. Then I tried to play them. Zelda seemed to play at first but then a single pixel would snag and drag across the screen one by one until it was just an abstract terrifying mess. I tried other ROMs, other emulators. No luck.
Oh well, I thought. I’ll try Banjo Kazooie.
That one played with what I can only describe as snaps where everything would judder and leap around, dumping me amidst enemies and cutting off cut scenes. It wasn’t playable.
I tried the hardest to get Pokémon Snap to work.
At first I couldn’t move the camera, I could only snap pictures of what was in view. After laborious troubleshooting I got the camera to move, but all my pictures came out black and wouldn’t let me progress. I could do an infinite loop of the tutorial level but no farther.
But Kirby and the Crystal Shard worked.
After all the others it behaved extraordinarily well. There was only one tiny glitch that was so mild it didn’t affect gameplay. It did change the tone of the game slightly, I must admit. Because it was a bit jarring when the pink blob just opened in inescapable void to suck down any in his path.
The glitch: Kirby didn’t have a face.
