Prompt: Post Cannon Domestic Bliss

“So, Victor, what will happen with you and Yuuri now that the Grand Prix has ended?” A reporter asked.

“Well, we plan on getting married towards the end of next summer, so I am taking another year off. I’m so sorry about this but this is what Yuuri and I feel is best for the two of us.” Victor replied, not letting go of Yuuri’s hand at all.

“Yeah, I really love Victor and I want to spend more time with time off the ice.” Yuuri replied. “This won’t be the end of our skating careers though. We may skate another season after this year. But both of our careers will come to an end in the next few years.

“Thank you so much for your time, guys! Have a safe journey back to Japan!” The reporter said, cheerily at the couple

“Now boarding flight 1573 to Hasetsu, Japan. Boarding ends in 1 hour.” announced the automated female voice announced over the tannoy, so loud that it woke Yuuri up.

“Viyta, wake up, our flight’s boarding.” he said in a soft tone while patting his fiance gently to also wake him up. Victor sat up slowly while rubbing his eyes and groaning.

“Finally. It’s been delayed for five hours. What time is it?” he asked, his eyes locking onto Yuuri’s with a smile.

“10:45 pm” Yuuri replied. It was all going well until they got to the airport, where they were told their flight was delayed. But neither of them really cared. Yuuri was excited to finally go home after a crazy season, he missed his family so much. Victor was excited too. He missed Makkachin and his friends.

“Where do you want to get married, Yuuri?” Victor asked randomly on the flight. Yuuri looked up at his fiancee, shocked, surprised but also happy. Happy that he could spend the rest of his life with the most handsome man in the universe.

“I was thinking Australia, the beaches are so nice there. We should get married on the beach!” Yuuri replied, letting out an excited gasp at his idea.

“Don’t worry, I have a plan.” Victor said, playfully, shooting his lover a wink.

“Goodnight, moya lyubov'”

“Goodnight, watashi no ai”

It was 11am when they landed in Hasetsu, Yuuri felt like his jet lag would be the death of him, but he wanted to see his family more than anything.

“HEY YUURI! OVER HERE!” a familiar voice shouted.

Yuuko.

“Hey guys!” Yuuri replied, still half asleep but happy to see his best friend and his family.

“Hey Victor! How have you two been?” Minami asked, his voice full of excitement, How could someone have this much energy for this early in the morning? Whatever, Victor was happy to see the kid after last season, he brought so much energy to whatever room or conversation he was in.

“We’re alright Minami, just tired.” Victor replied, letting a tiny chuckle slip out of his mouth. “The plane was delayed for five hours and we were not informed until we got to the airport, so that sucked. But everything else was alright.”

“That’s good. We’ve all been waiting for you. Yuuri’s mom has really been missing you both.” Minami said cheerily before walking over, Victor following him, to Yuuri, who was talking to Yuuko.

“Makkachin has missed you both like mad, but he loves your mom. He’s glad you’re both back.” Yuuko said, in her usual soft, gentle voice.

“I’m sure he has. I hate the fact that the seasons are so long, but they wouldn’t be able to fit everything in, so we’ll have to deal with it” Yuuri replied, a smile spreading across his face. Victor loved seeing Yuuri smile, mainly because he was really cute, but his smile could often be contagious, and this case wasn’t any different, as Victor spotted a smile spreading across both his face and Yuuko’s face.

“Let’s get you home then, Yuuri. We can’t Mrs Katsuki waiting for her precious child.” Victor interjected, putting his arm

“Ok, ok we’re coming now.” the raven haired man replied, staring at his fiancee’s beautiful ocean blue eyes.

When Yuuri had got back to the hot spring after visiting the ice rink, he saw Victor talking to Yuuri’s mom. He presumed they were just catching up, but Yuuri hoped that his fiancee was discussing a wedding with her.

He was.

“I was hoping I could marry your son in Australia, Mrs Katsuki. He suggested the idea on the plane and I loved the way his face lit up. I want to make him happy for the rest of his life.” Victor asked, sternly but with a gentle undertone.

“Oh my gosh Viyta, of course! He’s always loved you so I am more than happy for you to marry my son.” Hiroko replies, a hue smile spreading across her face. Her son was going to be spending the rest of his life with the best man in the world.

Neither of them could wait.

2 months later, everyone is in Australia and the wedding is 2 days away.

Everyone was on the beach relaxing whilst also trying to push the stress of the wedding away. Victor and Makkachin were in the sea, Mila was trying to tan, Yurio was asleep and Minami was having a water with a few of the others. Yuuri and Phichit were under a parasol, catching up after a long season.

“And then I fell straight on my butt! It hurt really badly, so I had to have a few days off, but I was back on the ice just under a week later.” Phichit laughed.

“Man that sucks, glad you’re better though.” Yuuri replied. The two sat in silence for a while, but it wasn’t awkward. They were taking in Australia’s beautiful scenery, sitting on the same beach that Yuuri and Victor would be getting married on two days later.

“Are you nervous?” Phichit said, breaking the silence between them.

“Well, kind of,” Yuuri responded. “But it’s going to make both of us happy, so I try to push the negative thoughts away.”

“That’s understandable, man.” Phichit checked the time on his phone.

“Jesus! It’s 6pm already!” Phichit exclaimed. “We should start packing up now, we need to get back to the hotel and join the others.”

“Yeah. that’s a good idea. Let’s go!” Yuuri responded.

He was so excited for the future.

2 days later, on the day of the wedding.

Victor was standing at the top of the isle, admiring how handsome Yuuri looked. Thank God he was going to be spending the rest of his life with him.

Yuuri walked up the aisle, his parents either side of him, and Victor was the happiest he’d ever been. Yuuri thanked his parents and kissed them both on the cheek.

“You look amazing.” is all Victor could say as he was standing there, in awe of his beautiful soon to be husband.

“So do you, Viyta.” Yuuri responded, a crimson blush creeping across his face. The vicar finally started the service.

Everyone was already crying, and when it came to saying “I do”, it was no exception.

“Do you, Yuuri Katsuki, take Victor to be your lawfully wedded husband?”

“I do”

And do you, Victor Nikiforov, take Yuuri to be your lawfully wedded husband?”

“I do.”

“Well, I now declare you husbands!” the vicar cheered. Before anyone could say anything, Victor and Yuuri’s lips were together, this kiss being the most passionate and sweet one they had ever shared. Everyone cheered for them, as tears started to form in Yuuri’s eyes. They broke apart from the kiss and placed their foreheads on each other.

“I love you, Viyta.”

“I love you too, Katsudon.

Let's run away together.”

FAVORITE FANFICS OF 2019

HAPPY NEW YEAR’S EVE & HAPPY 2020 TO YOU ALL.

So this was a fun post I did last year, inspired by the dozens of Favorite Books of 2018 by the booktubers I followed and I thought to myself: why not do a little something something for the fanfics that stood out to me, stuck me with throughout the year. 

Last year I read insanely amazing reads, and if you’re interested to see what were my favorite fanfics of 2018, here’s the link: past favs

For this year, I read sooooooo many incredible fanfics that it was hard to narrow it down to just 10. And the funny thing is, a good portion were from the same author, so it was insanely hard picking the top one. 

I implore all of you reading and following me to try the tag-and please tag me. Always on the hunt for fanfic recs. Without any further ado, here are my top 10 favorite fanfics for 2019:

1). Soup-pocalypse and The Great Curry Cataclysm by SqaudOfCats/ @norelationtoatticus (drarry)

Summary: Eleven years after the war, Draco Malfoy leads a quiet, boring, and perfectly respectable life, thanks very much. Or, at least he does, until a sudden and very unexpected veela awakening causes him to throw soup all over Harry Potter in the middle of the Ministry cafeteria.

If the summary alone doesn’t get you to immediately click on the link and read, I don’t know what to say. But I can say this. SqaudofCats has become my new drarry favorite author period. I read all of her drarry stories, loved them all, and am hoping she does more. 

This story, in one word, was a GEM. A FUCKING GEM. It was so so so good.There were so many good elements: Veela Draco, Dad Harry raising Teddy, Draco learning how to cook, a strang but HILARIOUS courtship involving food that I didn’t realize how much I needed until this story. It was also a perfect blend of fluff with so many cute moments and angst, which thankfully didn’t involve the couple but had to do with Harry’s mental health and PTSD post-war. 

I read this story back in May and I still think about it. Have to stop myself from reading because I have so many fanfic tabs. But it is so good. It’s so addicting. Highly recommend.

2). Cinderfella by @goldentruth813 (sheith)

Summary: Takashi Shirogane is exactly the kind of man Keith likes; built like a brick house with a smile sweet enough to rot teeth and a heart of gold. Of course he’s also YouTube famous and worlds out of Keith’s league. The closest he can get to his pseudo-celebrity crush is when he watches Shiro’s videos from the safety of his bed. Or so he thinks.

This incredible bean of a human being, this incredible writer is the reason I was pulled into the sheith ship long before I finally got into the show-and then had me drag @kila09 into the incredible maddness that is Shiro and Keith and the crew....and the disappointing season 8 that I am still pissed about. But yes @goldentruth813 is the reason why I got pulled into this ship, and this fanfic is the story that sealed my love for sheith and made them my 3rd favorite ship of all time. 

This story is a fun, hilarious modern twist of Cinderella that obviously involves two guys, one is who a popular Youtuber and the other who is a hardcore super fan who meet in the most surprising circumstances and come back together in the most hilarious of ways. With our classic glass slipper being a beloved leather jacket. 

It’s so stinking cute. It’s so hilarious. And it’s so weird since, while I do appreciate the fairytale, Cinderella isn’t one of my favorites but I’m a sucker for a good retelling of it. And this was so good.

3). Burn the Witch by @lettersbyelise (drarry)

Summary:  When Harry Potter is sent in to investigate Draco Malfoy’s successful potions company, posing as Draco’s bodyguard, he doesn’t know the case will launch a series of events that will change his life — and Draco’s. A story about choices, scars, Chopin piano pieces, and finding all kinds of love in the most unexpected places.

Let’s be honest here. At this point, are we really surprise to see this story here , featured in a favorites/rec list? Are we honestly surprise? At this point, I feel every drarry-shipping reader has read it. Devoured it. And praised it. 

This story pretty much took over the drarry community the way Red, White & Royal Blue took over the book world. There wasn’t a day when I didn’t see Burn the Witch featured in a drarry fanfic recs post, saw posts praising it. Fanart of it, edits for it, and several mood-boards. It was THAT STORY. And I am proud to say it was worth THE HYPE. 

Because it’s so well-known, I’m not going into too much detail but I can say it involves Daddy Draco and Scorpius who is precious, Harry in an undercover mission, and has one of the BEST post-war, slow-burn to the point of excruciating drarry relationship I’ve read all year. READ IT.

4). Evitative by Vichan (drarry)

Summary: In the summer before his fifth year at Hogwarts, Harry is drawn to a room in Grimmauld Place. Like the Gryffindor he is, he enters the room without fear. The room is a library, and Harry is surprised to find that he’s eager to learn.Then he gets the bad news: he’s been accidentally expelled from Hogwarts, and he needs to be sorted again. Everyone is confident that he’ll go straight back to Gryffindor, but with what he's been learning, Harry’s not so sure.

Out of all the stories I have in my list, this is the only one that is currently a WIP. I know some are hesitant with WIPs but this one is so worth it. Another hidden jewel found by chance. This story has to be one of the best slytherin-Harry ever and that shows the Slytherin House and the Slytherins in a positive light while still remaining true to their cunning ways. 

5). Up We Go by Oh_Hey_Tae (BTS: Taehyung x Jimin x Yoongi)

Summary: “If you’re a witch that works with plants, then why are all of yours dead? That can’t be good for business.”

The room dims again, and Jimin lifts a hand to flip off the ceiling. Taehyung knows he’s sad and that’s why the shop darkens and he shouldn’t find it funny—but he can’t help it. Because this is ridiculous. The good kind of ridiculous. The amazing kind.

(Or: Taehyung has a green thumb, Jimin runs a magical store, and Yoongi can kind of see dead people.)

Oh my goodness, where on earth do I even begin with this one? I am loss for words. It’s been months since I read it and I am still lost for words on how incredible it is. This story reads like a fairytale. Who am I kidding? This is a fairytale. A beautiful fairytale that is of loss, grief, friendship, family, love, and magic. And a beautiful fairytale that features a poly relationship

I was broken at the last word of the last chapter. Broken. Broken and put back together again.This story was so heartbreaking and heartwarming and I couldn’t think of anything else the whole damn week after I finished it. It was that good.

6). Silence by the Night by @parkkate (drarry)

Summary: After a spell goes horribly wrong, Harry has to deal with the loss of his eyesight. It’s such terrible timing, too, because how is he supposed to find out what Malfoy has been up to in the Room of Requirement? It’s not like he can ask the git, not only because it’s Malfoy, but also because the Slytherin has suddenly lost his voice. While they’re both trapped in the hospital wing, however, Harry discovers there’s so much he didn’t know about Malfoy, and it’s highly intriguing, but also a bit alarming. Where did all these confusing feelings come from all of a sudden? And what is Harry going to do about them?

See no evil. Hear no evil. Speak no evil. That is the best way to sum up this story. The themes of it certainly tie with the story. This story....there is a certain chapter and @parkkate knows what I mean if she remembers my reviews that shattered me. That made me sit down with a gasp because the angst just cut through me in a way that no other drarry fanfic had do to me. @parkkate I hope you know what I mean. 

Funny thing is about this fanfic is that it took my lazy butt forever to read it, like months after it was done. And mind you, I’ve seen so much praise and incredible fanart for this fanfic as well. So yeah, I was cursing myself for not getting to it sooner. And it was so so so so damn good that I literally said to @parkkate THIS IS CANON. This is canon. This happened 6th year after the bathroom scene and no one can tell otherwise. 

7). You only Live Once by @dreaming-fireflies (viktuuri/victuuri)

Summary: It's when the man is soaring in mid-air under the full moon that Victor gets a good look at him: he's Japanese, with black hair slicked back in a styled look, and a lithe body covered in tight, tight, leather under a navy blue coat.

And when the man lands on the ground again, Victor sees the final piece that captures his heart absolutely and thoroughly – a pair of brilliant, golden eyes.

Victuuri supernatural AU in which Victor is a Western demon hunter and Yuuri is a Japanese half-youkai exterminator.A cross-cultural romantic comedy/drama, with Japanese mythology, shounen action, and slice of life elements.

Literally the summary itself said everything you needed to know, everything that should AND MUST intrigue you enough into reading, that I don’t know if I really have anything to add. But I’ll try to add some of my own input. 

Like the summary said, this is a Supernatural-au YOI story, infused with Japanese mythology. Two different shows that shouldn’t work together but somehow did, creating such a fantastic read. I loved it. From beginning to end. I even knew first chapter it was going to be an ultimate favorite of mine. This fanfic just reminded me of my great love for Vikor and Yuuri-and my need for a fucking season two. As well as reminded of the glorious prime days of Supernatural, which in my opinion were seasons 4 & 5. There was action, there was angst, there was mutual and insane pining from both sides, and so many incredible moments to put into words. Seriously, what more could you want?

@dreaming-fireflies, you seriously did the damn thing with this story.

8). your sharp and glorious thorn by @arahir (sheith) 

Summary: To end the war they inherited, Keith marries the King he lead an army against.

“You know, we met once,” the king continues, voice closer, and Keith almost turns. They met many times on the field—but then the king clarifies with a single word. “Before.”

Before he was a king. Maybe before he was a general. Keith has traced his rise like the growth of a seed he planted in clay and never expected to see again for how poorly he sowed it. None of this would have been possible without Keith—not the war, not a line soldier's battlefield promotion, not the end of it all, tied up so neatly by all Keith’s best mistakes. Not the killing, either. The king is right about that much, at least.

This is an arranged-marriage AU story, a trope I don’t love too much unless it’s really well done, and had very strong Game of Thrones vibes. And please note when I said Game of Thrones, I mean Game of Thrones back in its incredible prime, not the shitty season 8 we all agree was a nightmare never to be thought of again. But yes, this story was so good. Arranged marriage, enemies-to-lovers, slowburn. Please read. 

9). Your Constellation Prize by rosegardenlake aka @whoalookingcooljoker (sheith)

Summary: Akira is Hollywood's biggest celebrity. He sings, he acts, he models, he does it all and he does it perfectly. That's what Shiro thinks at least, but what would he know? He's just a tired office worker whose dreams fell through years ago. ...But when he sees Akira, oh god, when he sees him - Shiro's world fills with light again.

When Shiro lands an interview to be an assistant at Akira's company, he has a hard time believing it's reality. Though Akira's rarely around, meeting everyone is like a dream. Especially meeting Keith, Akira's shy sweet dorky cousin (OR IS HE?!)

I didn’t realize how much I would liked-love in fact-or needed a celebrity-AU until I read this story.  And that’s about all I will say since I feel anything else will probably make things spoilery. But I will this say: these two can be such idiots, but they’re our lovable idiots and they’re so sweet, so soft. Also that this story definitely well-portrayed the dark side of fame.

10). That Old Black Magic by @bixgirl1 (drarry)

Summary: Centuries ago, marriage contracts were the norm — ready-made alliances between families, expected and complied with, without complaint. But norms have a way of changing, and when a long-dormant contract flares to life, Harry has to navigate an unexpected splintering of the path he'd thought would be easy after the war... with Draco Malfoy.

Least but certainly not least: an incredible, incredible drarry story done by the impeccable @bixgirl1. 

I know I said that I’m not the biggest fan of the arranged marriage trope since I’ve been let down by so stories that started out promising but disappointed in the end. However, there are a few authors who I can always count on to make this trope into a great story. Such as @beatitudinembty, and also @bixgirl1. 

This being is pretty much....I wanna say Sarah J Maas, one of my fav authors, in the drarry community. Everyone knows her. Everyone loves her. Everything she writes always turns into gold, and this latest story by hers was no except. Arranged marriage brings Harry and Draco together in the most infuriating, excruciating, incredibly-done slowburn.

A thank-you to readers 💜

As many of you know, this Friday the 27th of December will see the completion of All Our Yesterdays, my third and final Victuuri fanfic epic. It’s looking like AO3 will put it at over a million words, which is amazing! I’m full of feelings and would like to take a moment to share.  

It doesn’t seem long ago that I was so inspired by this fandom that I finally found the courage to sit down with my crazy western AU idea and see what I could achieve, and whether it’d be any good. The Other Side of Sunset will always hold a special place in my heart, but all five of my fics mean different things to me, and I can still see those scenes in my head as I hoped to get them onto paper – imperfectly, as that process always goes, though in a way maybe writing is ultimately the quest to achieve that translation ever more accurately.

 All Our Yesterdays – a fic that grew from a very small seed: “Once upon a time, there was Sir Victor” – took a year to write, and another six months to edit and post. When the word count of a story runs away with me like this, it can be difficult to do the kind of polished editing that I’d like. I see repetition when I go back and look. Clunky sentences, areas that could have been cut way back or otherwise changed for the better. But I also see some of my best writing in places too, ideas that I’m proud of, and Yuuri and Victor’s love shining through every page – as well as my own love for them and what I was creating.

I’m going to miss doing this. It was very hard to start saying goodbye to the Yuuri and Victor whose world I’ve inhabited for so long, once the first draft of All Our Yesterdays was completed – but I will continue to enjoy the art and writing of the many talented people in this fandom.

I’ve had the most wonderful support for this project, too, and I’d like to say a heartfelt thank-you to them once again. @sheepskeleton-art’s gorgeous illustrations. @adrianners’ Middle English – right down to the Yorkshire dialect – and other languages besides, which add a new dimension even to the most intimate scenes. @themayflynans, who helped more than anything to make this story what it is. Sarah, your friendship and enthusiasm for my writing and the fandom are a bright light that has seen me through so very, very much. “Thank you” can’t possibly encompass my feelings about everything you’ve done.

And, so very importantly, you the readers – who have stuck with me for months, silently or with your thoughtful, poignant, funny, and incisive comments. Some of you have come to this story after reading my previous fics as well, and it’s been awesome to see you. Your feedback and encouragement have meant the world to me.

My health has been a continuing problem, and I had what I believe to be an HPA axis crash in September 2018, which I briefly blogged about. I was in the middle of writing the seventh instalment of All Our Yesterdays, at the Stamford Bridge tournament, and was afraid – terrified, if I’m honest – that I’d never be able to get beyond that, or write anything else. But without ever fully recovering, and other complications setting in, somehow I still found my “happy place” every day, and managed to complete my final and most ambitious Victuuri fic.

Again, your comments have given me encouragement and feels through the worst times. I can’t thank you enough.

I began planning a seven-book project for publication (fingers crossed) this past summer, started writing in September, and am realising how challenging it is to do this type of work. I’ve had another crash, and my health is a continuing hurdle. My two main characters, based on Yuuri and Victor, have little to do with things for a start, and I’ve grappled more than anything with writing my own OCs who take centre stage. It’s been a steep learning curve. But I’m getting there, and writing is still my passion. Keep an eye out for The Game Masters by Ananda Waters – I’m gonna make it happen!

While I currently have no intention to produce more Victuuri works, I won’t rule out shorter stories or drabbles when Ice Ado finally makes an appearance, depending on what’s going on in my life. In the meantime, I’ll look for you all on Tumblr and Twitter, as long as they’re safe hangouts for us folks.

This fandom is beautiful. You are beautiful, and so are your creations. Please keep sharing.

The worst part about a vacation is always when it ends, when you have to go back to real life and your old, familiar places in it.

Victor is determined not to let this vacation end until it absolutely has to, however. It helps that their flight is at an ungodly hour in the morning, and so staying up all night to wring out every last minute they can is really just good travel sense. Yuuri agrees and, in that strange liminal space between late and night and early in the morning, they're finally able to take some time and consider what the future might hold for them. Weddings take a lot of planning, but sometimes it's okay to start with baby steps.

Victuuri Week 2018 Day 4: Free for All

King Victor Targaryen shows his most cherished possession to his favorite knight of the Kingsguard.

“Ser Yuuri, can you come inside for a moment?”

Yuuri stepped inside of the king’s solar. Books lined the shelves of the bright room. The solar was in one of the tallest areas of the castle, overlooking the city of King’s Landing and the shining waters of the Blackwater Bay. The king sat at a small table in front of the window, a plain locked chest in front of him. With summer slowly turning into fall in the South, Victor wore a tight-fitting long-sleeved black tunic with black breeches to match. The jacket he wore over his tunic held a red three-headed dragon, the Targaryen sigil. He also—and Yuuri kept this to himself—looked as stunning as Aegon the Conqueror himself.

“What shall I do for you, Your Grace?” asked Yuuri.

Victor sighed with a smile. “Must you continue calling me Your Grace even in private? I don’t think that Aegon the Fifth and Ser Duncan referred to each other so formally.”

Yuuri blushed. “Sorry, Victor. Public habits die hard in private.”

“That’s understandable. Please sit.”

Yuuri sat in the chair opposite of Victor. “Is everything alright?” he asked.

“Oh yes, everything’s fine,” said Victor. “Would you like some wine?” He filled a goblet of a Dornish red.

“No, thank you.”

Victor said he was fine, but there was a quiet melancholy in his eyes. “I know the small council is begging me to marry.”

“Are they?” At the age of nine-and-twenty, Victor had been unmarried since he was crowned a few years before. Yuuri had heard none of the rumors within his earshot. As a sworn sword of the Kingsguard, he would have had to defend his king’s honor if he had. But Yuuri wasn’t an idiot; he knew what the smallfolk were talking about.

“I understand that a son would be a preferable heir,” said Victor. “But Yuri is happy being my heir.”

“He’s happy to be your heir, but he wants to enter a tourney as soon as possible,” said Yuuri, who had guarded the young prince on occasion. “He could get hurt.”

Victor laughed. “He can enter the lists, but no one will touch him when he competes. Or he’ll be unseated and will pout for weeks.”

Yuuri smiled. “I’ve seen him fight. He’s very good. Not as good as you, of course, but one of the best I’ve seen.” He wasn’t sure if any the prince or any other member of the Kingsguard for that matter, came close to Victor.

Victor took a sip of his wine. “Of course, he’s good. I trained him myself after all.”

Curiosity got the best of Yuuri. “If I may ask, what’s inside the chest?”

Victor slowly set down his goblet. “That’s why I asked for you.”

“What?” Yuuri felt like reaching out and opening it, but he wouldn’t dare. “What’s in there?”

Victor stood up. “My most cherished possession.”

The King of Westeros had the continent’s wealth at his disposal, the most expensive clothing and weapons in his closet and arsenal, ancient Targaryen heirlooms that had been passed down generation from generation.

“I don’t want you to tell anyone what I’m about to show you,” Victor said sternly. “That is an order.”

“Yes, Your Grace.”

Victor plucked out a book from his shelf—The Fires of the Freehold by Galendro—and removed a key from inside the front cover.

Inside the chest, sitting on a red velvet cushion, was an egg as blue as the sky, burnished with flecks of silver. It was one of the most beautiful things he had ever seen.

Yuuri’s mouth opened slightly. “Is…is that a dragon egg?”

“It is.” As gently as a mother cat would a kitten, Victor picked up the egg with both hands and gazed at it lovingly. “Every trueborn Targaryen child is given an egg in the cradle. This was the one given to me.”

“I’ve read books about Targaryen children and dragon eggs,” said Yuuri. “I thought the practice ended after Robert’s Rebellion.”

“Officially, it has. Ever since then, we don’t trust others with knowledge of the eggs, not even the Kingsguard. For obvious reasons.”

Yuuri had never seen Victor gaze at anything like he gazed at that egg. The egg—and the dragon inside—was his child.

“When I was younger, I thought that my egg would be the one that hatched,” said Victor. “Even though dragon eggs haven’t hatched for centuries.” He stroked a silver fleck with his thumb, and the melancholic expression from earlier returned. “It’s a terrible thing to have dragon dreams without dragons.”

It was moments like these that, despite their friendship, Yuuri felt distant from Victor. Yuuri was born a bastard in the Crownlands with an unknown father and a mother running an inn. The only swords he held were wooden. He had no dreams of dragons or direwolves or lions.

“Would you like to touch it?”

“I-I…”

Victor set the egg back down on the cushion and looked at Yuuri. “Come.”

King Victor took Yuuri’s hand and placed it on top of the egg.

Yuuri tensed and his heart jumped, both from the feel of the egg and Victor’s bare hand on top of his. For a wild moment, Yuuri internally knew why Victor never married, but he shoved that thought aside. The surface of the shell was like tiny scales, and it glinted in the dying light of the sun. And it was cold. The dragon inside had turned to stone long ago.

“It’s beautiful.”

Victor only smiled, and his hand never left Yuuri’s.

Maybe Victor had more wine before Yuuri had entered the room. The bond between the king and his Kingsguard were closer than brothers, but this…

“If I had a dragon, I would love for you to fly with me,” said Victor.

“Fly with you?” said Yuuri. “Where?”

“Anywhere you’d like.”

Their words were quiet, but Yuuri’s heart pounded.

A part of his motivation for joining the Kingsguard was being close to the king, and by extension, Victor when he inherited the throne. Victor requested that he come to King’s Landing.

“Would that include flying west across the Summer Sea?” said Yuuri.

“Yes.”

Victor took his attention away from the egg. He was looking straight at Yuuri.

Their faces were inches apart.

“Then, I’d love to fly with you.”

Victor closed the gap and kissed him.

The tension that Yuuri held from earlier fell away, and he naturally, closed his eyes and leaned into the kiss. Victor’s lips still tasted of the wine from earlier.

They broke apart and Yuuri asked a single question.

“H-How long?”

“Since the tourney all those years ago. I never married because I’ve been so enchanted with you.”

Yuuri blushed. “I…” Some part of him always knew.

Victor reached forward and took Yuuri’s hand in his own. “We mustn’t tell anyone.”

“No.” Yuuri blinked. “A king and a member of the Kingsguard. Has that ever—?”

“Not as far as I know. Or it hasn’t been recorded.”

“And what if the small council asks about marriage again?” said Yuuri. “What will you say?”

Victor chuckled. “I’ll say what I said earlier. Yuri will make a fine king.”

Otayuri Fic Rec List

I came for the Victuuri, but several of my favorites had a side pairing I wasn’t expecting to enjoy so much: Otabek Altin and Yuri Plisetsky. I’ve seen some of the wank on the otayuri tag, so if you don’t like, don’t read.

I love long fics (>10,000 word count) and have this insane need to keep track of the ones I really enjoy. Here are both competed works and WIPs that I am following they are all complete now.

Although he’s dreamed about this competition for years, he’s always worked better alone. Until a little-known, solemn, lovely violinist walks into his life. Inspired by Yuri’s Allegro Appassionato in B Minor, his free skate song.

Only now, after he’s done explaining everything in complicated, convulsed words, the man turns to Yuri with a smile on his face and explains everything once more, this time using terms Yuri can understand. Yuri listens. He bites down on his bottom lip and he does not cry.

Endurance and Peach Tea by chapstickaddict [T, 11,500 word count]

(canon, pining, slow burn, fluffy fluff) Yuri hummed. His body didn’t uncurl, but instead of pressing his face into the fold of his legs, he rested it on his crossed forearms. Tilting his face towards Otabek, he looked for the bronze metal. The colorful ribbon snuck into the folds of his jacket, hiding his prize from view. Yuri reached out, and Otabek let him pull the ribbon to bring the metal into the light.It was beautiful. Heavy and ornate, with the front masterfully detailed. The perfect symbol of success. Yuri flipped it over, admiring Otabek’s name carved along the back. Wait.“Did they spell your name wrong?” he demanded, straightening. Otabek made a noise beside him.

It takes three years for Yuri to figure himself out and get his head on right. He drags everyone along for the ride. Otabek is the only one to go willingly.

From Almaty, With Love by BoxWineConfessions [E, 115,900 word count]

(canon, pining, slow build, slice of life, part 1 of series) It’s quiet here. Even if the car alarm on the neighbor’s goddamn BMW has been going off for the past twenty minutes. Quiet, even though the alarm’s got the neighbor’s dog howling like crazy, and the neighbor works second shift and isn’t there to comfort the dumb dog. It’s quiet…They haven’t spoken to each other since that morning, when Yuri went off to go see his tutor, and Otabek went off to do whatever the hell it was he did in the mornings before he hit the rink. “You’re used to the noise?”“Yeah, but…I think I like the quiet too.” Or: Yuri spends the summer with Otabek in Almaty.

December 2018/2019 (Chapter 6)

Happy! Fun! Heartwarming! (right?)

(Blind ignorance of what happens when you date one of your only friends despite geographical distances and a really fierce temper!)

Also important is exploring Otabek’s feelings towards Kazakhstan but also his family and their dynamic. What shaped Otabek’s viewpoints and inspired his ability to leave/return to Almaty?

2020

Yuri’s grandfather is going to die during a Grand Prix qualifier. This has been known since chapter 1. It’s going to send Yuri into a spiral and be the major crux of his development over the next few years.

I’ve been laying the foundation to show that Yuri has an incredibly large family (Victor and Yuuri naturally) but also Mila, Yakov, Lilia, and his other rink mates and even other people in Japan. 

(I’ve stressed the Russian connections first because of what the show already did for his Japan relations but 2021 is dedicated to Japan.)

Yuri doesn’t realize this (Victuuri, Lilia, Mila, Yakov) is his family yet. 

Please also note I started this after Episode 10 and before his Grand Prix win so I didn’t know how they would handle his Agape. Even then, he did go blank during the performance.

He loves them, but the shock of losing his Grandpa and his own emotional issues (again he’s intertwined romantically and complicatedly with one of his few friends so that’s an entirely different problem) is going to make him close up. 

And Otabek, my dramatic darling, who loves Yuri and wants him to be happy, to the point of canonically grinning and clapping with the SOFTEST AND FONDEST FACE as Yuri destroys Otabek’s dream and accomplishes his own, wants to help so badly.

Older, more emotionally mature, and secure in his feelings for Yuri, Otabek tries to jumpstart Yuri’s life again. And the best way for Mr. “Don’t forget what it is you want” to accomplish bringing Yuri back is to offer him a family, his own, one Yuri was introduced to a yeah plus prior. 

Otabek (even though it’s only been a year of dating) sees Yuri as his inevitability, as his future. This can be their shared beginning. He proposes. 

But Yuri won’t see that, can’t see that through his trauma and his inexperience. He’s literally facing his worst nightmare (Grandpa dead, unstable remaining connections cause Otabek’s done this, unsure of his place with Lilia and Yakov now that he’s moved out, self imposed distance with Victor and Yuuri because they’re in Japan, only friends with his rinkmates because they’re rinkmates, etc.)

There won’t be a messy break-up. Yuri’s going to say no (I currently have it written as him fleeing instead of lightly punching Otabek but I want to see how I handle his temper in 2019 and his maturity development before I commit to an act of violence).

He’s just going to panic after refusing and automatically assume they broke up because he’s never handled this before???

It isn’t a happy scene, but I envision Otabek proposing while visiting Russia, so they’re probably both going to have to return to the same home. And Yuri’s going to radiate guilt and above all else be incredibly paranoid that he’s lost Otabek, who quickly realizes this was not the right approach. 

Say what you will about my man, he’s determined to succeed but flexible enough to change his plan of attack on the fly.

I’ve written/currently am writing it that they’re both temporarily staying with Lilia because everyone wanted to keep an eye on Yuri. 

Like day two after the proposal, Otayuri isn’t talking because they don’t know how, and Lilia’s going to loom over Yuri, sleeping against the front door so Otabek CAN’T SNEAK OUT, resembling a pale, humorless death.

She won’t fix anything because its not the type of problem she can fix, but once she’s aware of it, I have her at least getting them to talk briefly.

2021

(My Yuuri and Victor voices suck so I haven’t written this chapter yet) but Yuri is going to Japan after the Grand Prix. Change of pace, different environment, fewer painful memories.

While there, he’s going to confront the fact he’s not particularly close with people who aren’t Otabek or coded as ‘family’. 

I currently have him growing to like Minami and a few others.

Meanwhile, Otabek’s clearly better at connecting with other skaters and has histories with many of them, independent of Yuri

Leo’s gonna freak out. Oh man, Leo’s gonna rally the troops.

Over-indulgent Otabek is going to have to confront a reality where he needs to make choices and develop a future separate from Yuri, because they’re in an awkward state of communication and not sure where this goes.

OtaYuri’s time apart and Yuri’s developing friendships and the realizations Otabek faces on his own about what his dreams are, will help them grown and be better versions of themselves.

Eventually, because I am a soap opera, don’t let my careful consideration of themes tell you otherwise, Otabek’s going to get hit by a car while on his bike and Yuri’s going to FLEE TO HIS SIDE.

And we get a few happy years together.

Adopting Sasha and deciding to home her in Almaty. 

Yuri and Otabek carefully avoiding the ‘our’ pronoun when discussing JJ’s children and the topic of children in general

Yuri accepting it is his duty to save Altins from themselves

Carefully holding Otabek’s niece, seeing her uncle’s eyes, and whispering “This family is cursed with settling and poor taste. You’re not doing that. Not on my watch.”

Yuri realizing what Otabek always knew: this is their forever.

But in the meantime, Otabek’s feelings for Yuri haven’t changed, but his relationship with Almaty, his desire to STAY, has. For once, he is in the position to choose where he lives, and he defines himself as Almaty, as Kazakhstan's Hero. This title and his focus on the comforts of Almaty got him through arguably the worst year of his life (2021, separate from Yuri). Also, he likely sees his future working in Kazakhstan.

After their god awful handling of their last major conflict (proposal, family) each has been reluctant to ask what happens when they end their careers, which leads to the major fight in 2024.

2024

Yuri has friends, can recognize his family is more than blood, that he chooses this life. Russia is home. Russian skating is his future, even after he retires.

Otabek is finally able to choose, has the agency and power and skill to determine where he goes. And he wants to stay in Almaty, where he’s brought Yuri every summer and where his family is. The last time he picked Yuri over Almaty, it broke his heart, and I have to wonder if that tiny voice in the back of his head and the back of his heart are quietly expecting to once again watch Yuri refuses him so hey, better to stay home where there’s security. 

And thus they fight (I think that’s the entirety of Chaper 9) and Otabek stays in Almaty while Yuri stays in Russia.

(Remember there’s still a 10th chapter! But I’m not giving away the ending).

“So, Victor, what will happen with you and Yuuri now that the Grand Prix has ended?” A reporter asked.

“Well, we plan on getting married towards the end of next summer, so I am taking another year off. I’m so sorry about this but this is what Yuuri and I feel is best for the two of us.” Victor replied, not letting go of Yuuri’s hand at all.

“Yeah, I really love Victor and I want to spend more time with time off the ice.” Yuuri replied. “This won’t be the end of our skating careers though. We may skate another season after this year. But both of our careers will come to an end in the next few years.

“Thank you so much for your time, guys! Have a safe journey back to Japan!” The reporter said, cheerily at the couple

“Now boarding flight 1573 to Hasetsu, Japan. Boarding ends in 1 hour.” announced the automated female voice announced over the tannoy, so loud that it woke Yuuri up.

“Viyta, wake up, our flight’s boarding.” he said in a soft tone while patting his fiance gently to also wake him up. Victor sat up slowly while rubbing his eyes and groaning.

“Finally. It’s been delayed for five hours. What time is it?” he asked, his eyes locking onto Yuuri’s with a smile.

“10:45 pm” Yuuri replied. It was all going well until they got to the airport, where they were told their flight was delayed. But neither of them really cared. Yuuri was excited to finally go home after a crazy season, he missed his family so much. Victor was excited too. He missed Makkachin and his friends.

“Where do you want to get married, Yuuri?” Victor asked randomly on the flight. Yuuri looked up at his fiancee, shocked, surprised but also happy. Happy that he could spend the rest of his life with the most handsome man in the universe.

“I was thinking Australia, the beaches are so nice there. We should get married on the beach!” Yuuri replied, letting out an excited gasp at his idea.

“Don’t worry, I have a plan.” Victor said, playfully, shooting his lover a wink.

“Goodnight, moya lyubov'”

“Goodnight, watashi no ai”

It was 11am when they landed in Hasetsu, Yuuri felt like his jet lag would be the death of him, but he wanted to see his family more than anything.

“HEY YUURI! OVER HERE!” a familiar voice shouted.

Yuuko.

“Hey guys!” Yuuri replied, still half asleep but happy to see his best friend and his family.

“Hey Victor! How have you two been?” Minami asked, his voice full of excitement, How could someone have this much energy for this early in the morning? Whatever, Victor was happy to see the kid after last season, he brought so much energy to whatever room or conversation he was in.

“We’re alright Minami, just tired.” Victor replied, letting a tiny chuckle slip out of his mouth. “The plane was delayed for five hours and we were not informed until we got to the airport, so that sucked. But everything else was alright.”

“That’s good. We’ve all been waiting for you. Yuuri’s mom has really been missing you both.” Minami said cheerily before walking over, Victor following him, to Yuuri, who was talking to Yuuko.

“Makkachin has missed you both like mad, but he loves your mom. He’s glad you’re both back.” Yuuko said, in her usual soft, gentle voice.

“I’m sure he has. I hate the fact that the seasons are so long, but they wouldn’t be able to fit everything in, so we’ll have to deal with it” Yuuri replied, a smile spreading across his face. Victor loved seeing Yuuri smile, mainly because he was really cute, but his smile could often be contagious, and this case wasn’t any different, as Victor spotted a smile spreading across both his face and Yuuko’s face.

“Let’s get you home then, Yuuri. We can’t Mrs Katsuki waiting for her precious child.” Victor interjected, putting his arm

“Ok, ok we’re coming now.” the raven haired man replied, staring at his fiancee’s beautiful ocean blue eyes.

When Yuuri had got back to the hot spring after visiting the ice rink, he saw Victor talking to Yuuri’s mom. He presumed they were just catching up, but Yuuri hoped that his fiancee was discussing a wedding with her.

He was.

“I was hoping I could marry your son in Australia, Mrs Katsuki. He suggested the idea on the plane and I loved the way his face lit up. I want to make him happy for the rest of his life.” Victor asked, sternly but with a gentle undertone.

“Oh my gosh Viyta, of course! He’s always loved you so I am more than happy for you to marry my son.” Hiroko replies, a hue smile spreading across her face. Her son was going to be spending the rest of his life with the best man in the world.

Neither of them could wait.

2 months later, everyone is in Australia and the wedding is 2 days away.

Everyone was on the beach relaxing whilst also trying to push the stress of the wedding away. Victor and Makkachin were in the sea, Mila was trying to tan, Yurio was asleep and Minami was having a water with a few of the others. Yuuri and Phichit were under a parasol, catching up after a long season.

“And then I fell straight on my butt! It hurt really badly, so I had to have a few days off, but I was back on the ice just under a week later.” Phichit laughed.

“Man that sucks, glad you’re better though.” Yuuri replied. The two sat in silence for a while, but it wasn’t awkward. They were taking in Australia’s beautiful scenery, sitting on the same beach that Yuuri and Victor would be getting married on two days later.

“Are you nervous?” Phichit said, breaking the silence between them.

“Well, kind of,” Yuuri responded. “But it’s going to make both of us happy, so I try to push the negative thoughts away.”

“That’s understandable, man.” Phichit checked the time on his phone.

“Jesus! It’s 6pm already!” Phichit exclaimed. “We should start packing up now, we need to get back to the hotel and join the others.”

“Yeah. that’s a good idea. Let’s go!” Yuuri responded.

He was so excited for the future.

2 days later, on the day of the wedding.

Victor was standing at the top of the isle, admiring how handsome Yuuri looked. Thank God he was going to be spending the rest of his life with him.

Yuuri walked up the aisle, his parents either side of him, and Victor was the happiest he’d ever been. Yuuri thanked his parents and kissed them both on the cheek.

“You look amazing.” is all Victor could say as he was standing there, in awe of his beautiful soon to be husband.

“So do you, Viyta.” Yuuri responded, a crimson blush creeping across his face. The vicar finally started the service.

Everyone was already crying, and when it came to saying “I do”, it was no exception.

“Do you, Yuuri Katsuki, take Victor to be your lawfully wedded husband?”

“I do”

And do you, Victor Nikiforov, take Yuuri to be your lawfully wedded husband?”

“I do.”

“Well, I now declare you husbands!” the vicar cheered. Before anyone could say anything, Victor and Yuuri’s lips were together, this kiss being the most passionate and sweet one they had ever shared. Everyone cheered for them, as tears started to form in Yuuri’s eyes. They broke apart from the kiss and placed their foreheads on each other.

“I love you, Viyta.”

“I love you too, Katsudon.

Let’s run away together.”
