FAVORITE FANFICS OF 2023

We did it. We made it. We made it through the end of 2023, and BOY AM I HAPPY AS HELL TO SAY GOOD-FUCKING-BYE TO IT. I don't know about you guys, but this year- particularly the last quarter- have been a lot to say the least. A lot of headaches, a lot of mental breakdowns, a lot of emotional gymnastics, and more.

But thanks to good friends, good shows, good music, and of course good fanfics I managed to see it through the end.

One of my favorite New Year's Eve's traditions where I do my annually fanfic recs/favorite fanfics of the year. This marks a whooping 5th year doing it, YAY 🎉💃🏿 If interested, check out 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 lists.

Please know there's no real ranking, despite the number ordering. Loved all these stories listed. Loved all the fanfics writers featured. And of course highly highly highly recommend

Without further ado, here are my favorite fanfics of 2023:

1). Something Good by @no-net-ensnares-me (kathony/kanthony)

Summary: Eager to earn a wage that would provide a more suitable life for her family and prepare for Edwina’s debut in a couple years, Kate accepts a position as governess for the Bridgerton family and moves to London, where she finds herself thrown into the chaos of living with the severe yet handsome Viscount Anthony Bridgerton and his seven siblings.

The Sound of Music AU

The Hills are aliiiiiiiiiiiiive with the sound of music/and the feels are FEEEEEEEEEELT with each new chapter. LOL, but all jokes aside, yes it's been a year since we saw our dear Viscount and Viscountess yet I still ride hard for them like it's their season premire all over again. Thanks of course to the awesome fic writers who keep us well-feed as we wait for season 3, such as this gem right here

Seriously, I cannot stress how insanely good this was. A good retelling where you see elements of Sound of Music while also being its' own thing. The longing, the longing between Kate and Anthony is so good. READ IT.

2). A Devil's Love by FormerlyIR (Irony_Rocks), Irony_Rocks (kathony/kanthony)

Summary: When Kate's sister goes missing, she gets herself a waitress job at the Pebble Lounge to track her down, working under London’s seedy underbelly to find the only person she has left in this world to love. And Anthony Bridgerton? No matter how alluring and distracting he may be, he’s just a means to an end, his life defined by his family business built on corruption.

Kate won’t dance to that tune. She’s just trying to find her sister.

Two in a row. A win for kathony/kanthony. Where the first one for the most part is cozy and light, this one is dark. Not surprising since this story, according to the author, was inspired by the 2022's The Batman, focusing on the electric dynamic between our favorite Bruce and Selina Kyle. Or rather in this AU, the dynamics between a dangerous mob boss and a woman going undercover as a waitress to figure out what happened to her sister.

It's got everything. Protective/possessive Anthony. Stubborn, witty Kate. Great sexual tension. Fair warning, there is an unplanned pregnancy so keep that in mind. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride

3). Intent to Cherish by iffervescent (kinn x porsche)

Summary: A mouthy beta runs off with Kinn's watch. He goes to get it back.

4 chapters this story is. 4 chapters of hilarious back and forth. 4 chapters of Porsche keeping that stubborn streak in tact with Kinn trying to chip his way through. 4 chapters we get to watch Porsche go from intriguing thief, to Kinn's employee, and finally intended.

This story checks off so many boxes. ABO AU, which is always a favorite. Sugar Baby and Sugar Daddy dynamic- never get tired of that. And of course Porsche being spoiled rotten. What more could you want?

4). burnt cotton series by taetaehland (taekook)

Summary: here's a series featuring your favorite bratty taehyung and his whipped husband, jeongguk (plus their adorable pups)

Once again, we got ABO and we so far have 11 stories of it featuring our favorite BTS as they grow more of their little family, grow more in love, and of course Tae growing more crafty and poor Kookie growing more insane. I love it.

Not to mention seeing all the ways Jungkook becomes more and more whipped for his husband is just the icing on the cake.

5). 'Tis a Far Better Thing by @the-sinking-ship (drarry)

Summary: 'Tis a far, far better thing doing stuff for other people — or however the Muggle saying goes — because Potter is in need of professional help, and Draco is just the man to give it to him.

A Drarry Clueless AU.

Sometimes you come across two things, such as two fandoms that on the surface seem so far farfetched until one ambitious fic writer creates a story that combines elements of the two and creates a wonderful gem of a story. Which is exactly what happened here.

Draco Malfoy and Cher Horowitz are so much alike, it's not even funny. Thus enhancing my enjoyment for this story to outright love love loving.

Again, elements to a famous story that brings on the nostalgia and enjoyment while also being it's own fresh spin. Plus FASHION. Draco as a Fashion Designer with Harry being his newest client. Along with Draco massively simping- always a win in my book.

6). Tracklist by Mia_Moon (sukuita/sukuIta)

Summary: Singer Sukuna x Fanboy Yuuji

Where they do kinky stuff together first and then get to know each other later.

Sometimes you have that fandom with an OTP that's set and your loyal ride or ship. Then there are other fandoms, where you love most of the characters, see the chemistry between them, love the dynamics, and it's fair game for shipping season. Jujutsu Kaisen is one of those fandoms, and sukita/sukulta was one of those ships that I just ended up falling in love with it.

Listen. Listen. Listen. I know the synopsis just give smutty smutty good time, but you get that and MORE.

What more you say be asking? Well, for starter our dear boy Yuuji who gets spoiled rotten, pampered, and yes, also gets sexed up 7 ways to Sunday- featuring some of the hottest smut I've read so far might I add. Mia_Moon did their thing, and I definitely will be reading more of and more of their works.

I don't know why to explain it, but there's something about a celebrity AU, where we have one half of the ship be this famous celeb and the other being this outsider getting pulled into their world. I ate it up every single time.

7). I'm Only Going to Heaven (If it Feels Like Hell) by stereobone (eruri)

Summary: "Are you saying you want to be my sugar daddy?" Levi says.

This story, I kid you not, came at the best timing, especially as I still try to untangle my very tangled feelings regarding the final season of Attack of Titan. But one positive that came outta it was my ulitmate love for Levi Ackerman, along with rekindling my love for eruri.

Good to note, one of the quickest quickest ways for me to immediately read a fanfic is if I see the keywords: Sugar Daddy.

What can I say? It gets me everytime. And this one was no different. This story not only came to my radar at the perfect time, but it also was just so damn perfect. So damn good. And of course had me looking through whatever other eruri stories the writer had under their belt.

8). Minor Family Supremacy by @yoonmoonbii (vegaspete, kinnporsche,payurain, prapaisky)

Summary: Like Vegas, Venice Theerapanyakun was born into a dangerous world of crime and power plays. And unlike Vegas, he is well protected by his family who shelters the little boy and spoils him to the core. However, in a day like every other, Venice is kidnapped.

Oh dear lord, where do we begin with this one? Well, much as 2023 was a hot flaming mess, it also became the year of Love of the Air (my new comfort show) and Kinnporsche. For not only me but also for my dear friends @littlenightdragon & @kila09. And what does one do after getting into a new show/fandom? Find fanfics to satisfy the fangirl cravings.

Minor Family Supremacy, or as me and @littlenightdragon often like to call it, the Minor Family Saga was the fanfic for us. And deliver what we needed after finishing Kinnporsche and wanted more of Vegas, more of Pete, and see the other side of the Minor Family.

This one, massive massive props, praise, and all the kudos for @yoonmoonbii for putting this series together because wow. Series starts off with Payu aka Venice as a kid, best friends with his cousin Prapai, being protected by his loving parents until one day changes their dynamics forever- and further widen the gap between the two . But quickly as each story goes on, the two find themselves being more aware of their positions, the complicated histories of their families, and how to stay on course of their own lives without falling into the trappings of Korn's narcisstic chesse game.

It's that good. Each story is like a TV season to the vegaspete spin-off we were so badly owed and sadly weren't granted.

9). Haute Couture, Mon Amour by @goldentruth813 (sheith)

Summary: When a scruffy stranger walks into Mamora Designs, personal shopper Shiro decks him in finery instead of sending him away. Little does Shiro know there’s more to this man than meets the eye and while trying to give him a picture perfect moment he just might find his own instead.

When it comes to @goldentruth813, you can count on several things. Amazing sheith stories. Incredible moments that will make your heart swoon or flutter (depending on the rating). And of course for Shiro to be spoiled rotten and given more depth than the show did.

This one, one word: FASHION. Fashion, fashion, with a lot of a Cinderella-ish vibe, only slightly if you catch it.

10). He's The Bride by @sashadistan (tododeku)

Summary: Fae Prince Shoto has been waiting his whole life to marry his betrothed. As it turns out, a few interesting details were lost in translation, but Shoto still thinks his bride is worth the wait.

Oh @sashadistan, how I adore thee. For the way you just drop these amazing stories for us peasants, feeding us with wonderful content one story at a time. I always love your stories whether it's sheith, tododeku, and more.

This one was no different. This story has everything I could want: Fae Shouto, possessive Shouto, body worship, Izuku being his stuttering and flustering mess, and arranged marriage.

If y'all told me 5 or so years ago, I'd get into arranged marriage, I would have been dumbfounded. Or wonder if you were trying to be funny. Now? I love it. Just goes to show that sometimes it takes a good writer to make something you don't like a win in your eyes.

Bedroom Hymns by Writcraft (drarry; daddy kink w/dom & sub undertones, insanely HOTTT)

Like, Comment, and Romance by @xskyll (tododeku; Youtuber Deku, pro-Hero Shouto, mutual longing and pining wrapped in a insanely fun read)

Do you have any Shiro/Keith fic recs?

Yes, I've been making my way through the AO3 tag! These are from the first phase of getting into this ship, where I was still figuring them out. So reading about them when they're figuring themselves out was helpful.

everything stays (but it still changes) by isozyme - Keith/Shiro, explicit "angst and fluff and smut", post S07, first time, ptsd, friends to lovers I've read this one more than once, I really like the characterisation of everyone (Shiro talks to the other paladins too!) and the insights of living on board of the Atlas. It's Shiro's POV and he's longing for Keith but thinks Keith needs him as a brotherly figure. They share some not so sweet (hurting each other while sparring) and sweet (patching each other up) moments until Keith moves their relationship to a new level. And then there's the trauma of their fight (Keith against Shiro's clone) and they are working through that for some sexy times 😌

Long way forward by queerly_it_is - Shiro/Keith, explicit pining, angst, friends to lovers, passionate first time, Keith's POV This one is beautiful written, especially with describing the feelings and the scenery! I feel like it was written and playing after S01 perhaps? Shiro and Keith got lost in a wormhole. Very good and angsty survival situations happen, with the horror of being alone and lost in space - but they come across beautiful planets too. Only Keith is getting more and more angry, mostly over not finding the other paladins and Shiro's behaviour of taking the blame plus avoiding Keith. They talk, repair their lions, trying to find the way home and get physical, with fighting and as well in some really nice, gentle and healing way of caring for each other. The sex scene is hot too! Shiro's prisoner time gets mentioned, I think this is such a big part of Shiro and I always love when it is in the stories. And the author had some great ideas about Keith's time at the Garrison. My favourite line: “Because we care about each other,” Shiro says. “More than we should, maybe, but... I can’t look at you and not want to make things better. So please don’t ask me to.”

Unravel by stardropdream cute and funny, pining, Shiro's POV, post S07, friends to lovers The Atlas becomes sentient, connected with Shiro's mind and she's so curious about everything, still learning like a little kid. Shiro is very patient and tries to explain everything with words and memories - totally ignoring the fact how often Keith appears on his mind when he's describing positive things. And he tries to shield the Atlas from his negative memories, like nightmares about the fights he had in the Galra arena as the Champion. The Atlas is cheeky too, playing pranks on everyone with moving rooms around like trying to make Keith enter Shiro's room, but one time even pushes him into it because Shiro had a nightmare and Keith was suppose to help. And being the wingman for Shiro and traps him and Keith so Shiro finally talks to Keith. Keith cares very much about Shiro, in a nice reassuring and calm way. I really like when Keith is very secure in his love for Shiro even if they are not dating (yet). He even helps Shiro connecting again with the Black Lion something Shiro missed very much.

Misty by The_First_Raft (Achilles x Patroclus, M). Short one-shot following a modern Achilles in his apartment that is almost as miserable as he is.

At the Edge of the Universe by @johaerys-writes (Keith x Shiro, E). Nothing like nursing your best friend through an alien fever to get you finally confessing your feelings. Just a lovely sick fic.

Flowers for the Dead and Living by firefly_quill (Achiles x Patroclus, T). After mob violence ended Patroclus's medical career (and resulted in Achilles' disappearance), Pat gets a job in a flower shop. Very sweet.

Super hard to pick just 5 fics because I have favorites for a bunch of different reasons, but, trying to avoid the obvious, and if I had to choose:

The Peace-Weaver (just has my entire heart always, my massive baby)

Like Moth to Flame (i feel like my writing matured in a lot of ways with this one, and its plot feels a bit more streamlined than mine usually are lol)

The Hurricane in His Veins (my first foray into writing poly stuff & Big Lore & idk i just had a lot of fun w it & still love getting comments on it!)

The Chiquita Chronicles (maybe one of my most unhinged creations & im so proud of that. seal it with a kiss is on the same tier)

Far More Precious Than Gold (this was a super self-indulgent fic that reignited my love for sheith while writing it, & im excited to write more in that universe)

Here are the fics that I’ve really enjoyed this month. All of these are complete. Enjoy!

Fandom: Boku no Hero Academia

Title: Learning Curve Author: Thealmostrhetoricalquestion Pairing: None Rating: Teen Word Count: 34,844 Summary:  Nobody told Shouto Todoroki that he was going to have an entirely different battle to face after the war was over. It's a good thing he's got his family, his teachers, and his friends to stop him getting left behind.

“I’ve always fought with my Quirk,” Shouto said, unclenching his fists.

“And now you don't have it,” Aizawa said, not unkindly, although it still stung. “Are you going to stop fighting?”

Title: All The Whispered Things Author: Thealmostrhetoricalquestion Pairing: None Rating: Teen Word Count: 11,551 Summary:  Todoroki is hit by a Delirium Quirk, but nobody notices. Least of all him.

The mission is simple: board the train, successfully navigate a crowded festival without running into trouble, and have fun. Aizawa isn’t there to hold their hands, but Shouto has no doubt that he’ll be sitting by his phone the entire time, waiting for something to go wrong.

You’d think that by their third year, Aizawa would have a little more trust in all of them. But he doesn’t.

And considering the way things immediately go wrong, Shouto can’t really blame him.

Title: Heroes all have a Saving People Thing Author: Blueseabird2 Pairings: Aizawa Shouta/Yamada Hizashi, Midoriya Izuku/Harry Potter Rating: Teen Word Count: 94,246 Summary:  Aizawa gets called to England to deal with the Black family fortune and returns with a traumatized war hero cousin he will not be giving back. Aizawa's pretty sure his husband won't mind.

Harry meets an actually competent adult who actually understands, offers to take him away, and is willing to tell the Magical Word to shove it. Harry maybe gets attached.

Class 3A adopts another hero or two and learns that Problem Children who had megalomaniacs chasing them through school bond startlingly quickly. They also shouldn't be left alone with Nezu.

Fandom: Haikyuu!!

Title: Three Little Words  Author: JonJackTheBoi Pairing: Hinata Shouyou/Yamaguchi Tadashi Rating: General Word Count: 6,584 Summary:  After learning he'd never been to one, Hinata insists on taking Yamaguchi to a pet cafe, just the two of them. Yamaguchi's only issue with it is that he can't tell if it's the type of date he wants it to be or not.

Fandom: Harry Potter

Title: Azoth Author: zeitgeistic Pairing: Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy Rating: Explicit Word Count: 88,722 Series: Part 1 of Azoth (Words: 90,351 - Works: 2) Summary:  Now that Harry is back at Hogwarts with Hermione for eighth year, he realises that something’s missing from his life, and it either has to do with Ron, his boggart, Snape, or Malfoy. Title: Life skills outside the curriculum Author: Endrina Pairing: Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy Rating: Explicit Word Count: 66,238 Summary:  It was "Witch Weekly", of all people and organizations, the first to notice and comment on The Boy Who Lived’s absence from the ranks of first years at Hogwarts. The magazine went on to elucubrate that the young hero was studying at a foreign school, possibly Beauxbatons or Holzschuhkäse.

Title: The Meaning of Mistletoe Author: Endrina Pairing: Remus Lupin/Severus Snape (Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy in later parts) Rating: Mature (Part 3 is rated Explicit) Word Count: 30,708 Series: Part 1 of The secret language of plants (Words: 373,077 - Works: 4) Summary:  “Just… tell me. Tell me what is going on, Snape.”

What was going on was that Severus Snape had no trouble tracking down one Petunia Evans, now Dursley, to a little town in Surrey where he saw how exactly she was treating her nephew. Which somehow led to last night and Severus knocking on Lupin’s door with a toddler half-asleep in his arms.

Fandom: Teen Wolf

Title: El Lazo Author: thisgirlsays22 Pairing: Derek Hale/Stile Stilinkski Rating: Explicit Word Count: 50,995 Series: Part 1 of El Lazo (Words: 54,503 - Works: 2) Summary:  "Seriously, Derek, level with me here. Is this some kind of werewolf mating ritual?"

"No, Stiles." Derek scowls, shooting him a dirty look.

Canon-flavored college AU in which Stiles is a little bit older, Derek's a little bit wiser, and Erica and Boyd still manage to get kidnapped by the Alpha Pack.

Title: The Snow on Mars Author: museaway Pairing: Keith/Shiro Rating: Teen Word Count: 11,243 Summary:  This is the reality with a happy ending thanks to the help of a meddling inter-dimensional being and a few Christmas ‘spirits’ sent to show Shiro the past, present, and future.

Title: Method Acting Author: YouAreInAComaWakeUp (Nikanaiko) Pairing: Keith/Lance Rating: Teen Word Count: 11,116 Summary:  A lot of things can happen in ten years.

Things like a person's citizenship being revoked due to new, xenophobic laws.

But there is...one...loophole.

Title: Do it Again Author: thisgirlsays22 Pairing: Geralt/Jaskier Rating: Explicit Word Count: 6,771 Summary:  By the twentieth time Geralt has gone through the loop, he decides to just throw himself off the cliff’s edge after Borch.

Keith gets interigated by the Altean (Bc he is Galra) and he has flash backs to prince training? The blade trails/training? Bc they obviously had to teach him to keep his mouth shut...

When Lance dies and Allura brings him back it's not bc of some heroic thing he did it should be something stupid like eating something he's allergic to or stepping in a puddle then being electricuted

this was all based off of the song soldier poet king by the oh hellos -- soldier would be ex soldier James? Or it could be general shiro, poet is lance, and the king is keith

FAVORITE FANFICS OF 2021

HAPPY NEW YEAR.

2020 was a constant hell on earth last year. 2021 seriously tried to take me out, especially in terms of burnout. I went through the WORST slump ever. A massive creative slump. A massive mental slump.

Hoping that 2022 will be a much kinder year. That's the only resolution/wish I have for the new year. A kinder year & for my creative slump to finally crack.

While this story was crappy in many ways, I still had things to help carry me through from BTS (obviously), anime, kdramas, and of course fanfics. Every year fanfic writers that are favorites to me or new to me come through with the content. Just blow me away with their storytelling and I always do this tradition because GODDAMNIT fanfic writers deserve their flowers too.

Without further ado, here are my favorite fanfics of 2021:

1). the beauty of futility by wbtrashking (tododeku) aka @wtkdigest

Summary: Todoroki Shouto is exhausted.

He's miserable, really. He's ready to give up, to tell his older sister goodbye, to stop fighting and just close his eyes forever.

But life isn't through with him. Izuku and his adopted daughter stumble upon Shouto in his darkest moments and show him that there's something worthwhile in the world. They show him that he's more than his depression; that he can laugh and love and be happy.

At age thirty, despite all the odds, Shouto finally figures out how to live.

I read this story only once, but the way it stuck to me, the number of times I shared around my friends who got into the tododeku ship, the number of times I keep thinking about it....it was that GOOD. That great. That amazing.

Shouto's exhaustion with life, with himself, and living in general hit so hard-and almost mirrored my own mental stage. And in comes in Izuku, the sweet beam that he is, doesn't cure him- thankfully it's not that kind of story. But he shows him that are hidden gems in everyday, with the help of Izuku's adorable adorable daughter.

That's another thing I love about this story: single dad Izuku with daughter Eri, a trope I NEED MORE OF. I also love the tenderness of the slowburn. Just read please. So so so good

2). I'll be your biggest kept secret and your biggest mistake by sascake aka @sascake (tododeku)

Summary: Devastated by his lack of a Quirk and pushed to the limit, fourteen-year-old Midoriya Izuku takes Bakugou's advice and jumps from the roof of their school.

Ten years later, pro hero Todoroki Shouto can't stop running into a vigilante hell-bent on saving people, going after every villain he comes across, and causing a conflict in Shouto like he's never felt before.

I am warning you right now if you are a Bakugo stan.....please proceed with caution. Mind you, the author does an incredible of not outright bashing bashing him, but she also does incredible job of showing just how severe Bakugo's words and actions deeply impacted Izuku.

Every year I always seem to find that one author who sucks me in with just one story and next thing I know, I become OBSESSED. And I do mean OBSESSED with their work. @sascake became that author to me. @littlenightdragon & I just PLOWED through mostly everything under their ao3 profile, and honestly I was debating whether I should name this or (possibly, maybe) falling for you which I also adored but something about this one just STUCK TO ME.

First of all, the way this felt like....it could be canon if things were differently. If Izuku's self doubt outweighed his inner strength and self worth. If Bakugo was twice as nasty with his words. If there was no All Might to come through and help him. Like me and @littlenightdragon couldn't stop thinking or talking about how this seriously could've been canon.

The relationship between Izuku and Shouto is just so breathtaking and at some points heartbreaking, watching them go from uneasy allies to commrades and more. We also have an incredible friendship between Izuku and Shinso that just so amazing to read-made me crave more stories featuring that platonic relationship. Not to mention this has to be one of the best vigilante Izuku stories I've read so far.

Just every single aspect of this story from the relationships, the dynamics, the scars of trauma both Izuku and Shouto carry are handled so incredibly well. Also, this story-along with every story by @sascake is addicting as hell, so there's that.

3). home is the shape of your heart by unreemarkable (tododeku)

Summary: If this is a dream, Shouto doesn’t want to wake up.

[in which shouto gets back what he lost, and he's both better and worse off for it.]

In this story we have vampire Shouto and ghost Izuku. Those were the two elements that immediately drew me in, especially vampire Shouto. I walked into this thinking it was gonna be a haunted mansion story, but it ended up being so much more.

Yes, there is a haunted house element but we have so much more. We have a ghost who doesn't remember anything about his own life, much less what led to his death. And a vampire, who knows everything and the weight of it kills him.

This romance, this love story, reminded me a lot of Kaz x Inej from Six of Crows, where there is very limited physical touch but the love and care linked between these two is so palpable like a live wire. This romance is so so so tender, you just melt reading it. The pining, the pining, the wanting and the PINING. It hurts so much. It was so good, it hurt.

4). Like Moth to Flame by magisterpavus (sheith)

Summary: When Keith tries to save his dying father by making a deal with the vampire lord who has terrified his village for centuries, he's prepared for sacrifice.

He's not prepared for Lord Shirogane.

Mags is a GOD. A god I say when it comes to sheith. When it comes to just raising the bar for good content & hot smut. And this story was a knock out.

First off, vampire Shiro. I've read stories with vampire sheith but I don't think I've come across one quite as snarky and lovable as this Shiro right here because WOW. I loved him so much. I also loved Keith, our determined human who's willing to do anything to help his ailing father, even if it means being under the thumb to this creature who haunts his village like a nightmare.

This is a very slowburn romance, but every chapter, every moment we see the two come closer is just so delicious. So well done.

Desperate Measures

5). The Water's Fine series by @goldentruth813 (sheith)

Summary: Keith's lifeguard tower offers a stunning beach view, but nothing steals his breath like the handsome stranger who runs by every morning. A chance encounter with hot running guy—Shiro, he soon finds out—reveals he's kind as well as gorgeous, but Keith's afraid to make a move. That is, until Shiro's in trouble, and Keith finds himself over his head.

Before we start, massive massive congrats to @goldentruth813. For making a spot on this list for the 4th year in a row.

you had me tell me that *spoiler alert* I would be so invested in a mermaid's relationship with a human...I would have some questions. Yes, I am a Disney girl. Yes, I grew up with the Little Mermaid. Yes, I am EXCITED AS HELL to see Halle Bailey play Ariel in the live action movie, but mermaids were never my favorite like that. Leave to Janel to drop a story like this and have me become completely obsessed with it.

There are 3 stories tied to this series. Each one, the relationship just gets better & better. It has heavy pining, it has sweet & epic romantic moments, it has mating, it has soulmates, it has sugar daddy Shiro, and of course massive fluff.

6). Love Letters & Coffee Grounds by @jlaw1105 (clexa)

Summary: Lexa wasn't sure what it was that drew her into the little coffee shop on the corner. Maybe it was because it was less than a block away from the front door of her new building. Maybe it was because it wasn't a Starbucks or some other large chain coffee front that cared more about profit than the flavor of their beans. Maybe it was the warm air filled with the soft scent of coffee, chocolate and cinnamon. But likely, definitely, it was the defiant little corner of the store that loudly rebelled against the norm.

It was early November and everything around Lexa was filled with red and greens or whites and blues. It screamed of Christmas and Hanukkah. Of buying gifts and consumer driven profit. But the back corner of the coffee shop was filled with oranges and reds and browns with a rather large sign written in an angry scrawl that said "It's not even Thanksgiving yet, assholes!" There was just something about it that, to Lexa, felt poetically beautiful.

A Clexa Coffee Shop AU.

First off, place bets right now on who you think wrote that sign at the coffee shop. Secondly, yes, I deeply deeply fell in love with this coffee shop AU.

Obviously, at this point, almost every pairing to every fandom has gone through the cafe/ coffee shop AU. It may be a simple trope to come, a cliche to many, but there is a reason why that trope continues to thrive in fandom- and in storytelling in general. It's such a popular trope that I consider it to be your first steps into fanfics.

And the way @jlaw1105 did this and more is pure CHEF'S KISS. We have Lexa, a bestselling author to this popular sci-fi series, is suffering massive writer's block with the latest book. We have Clark, part-time barista, part-time artist, and part-time crush that quickly becomes muse & more to Lexa.

This was just so so so so fucking good. READ IT.

7). There's Something about Potter by slytherin_nette (drarry w/ fem-Harry)

Summary: There’s just something particularly strange about Aria Potter this year. Unfortunately, the new 8th year Slytherins are determined to find out exactly what everybody's favorite golden girl is hiding. Post-DH semi-AU Hogwarts. DMxfemHP.

There are so many tropes and things that can pull me into a good drarry story: veela and fem-Harry. Veela is my favorite creature trope to read with drarry. Anytime I see the word drarry, I JUMP. Also I love me some genderbenting, so if there's one that offers the Girl Who Lived, I am on board.

So imagine my great surprise & delight that I stumble onto a story that delivers both. Done none other than the great queen of fem-Harry, slytherin_nette. Like when I say queen, I mean QUEEN. Every fem-Harry x Draco story she does is just amazing. Just incredible. Always slaps, and this is one is no expectation.

In this story, taking place after 8th year, we have Aria Potter returning to Hogwarts after not just surviving the war but also coming into a secret inherrtiance. We have Draco trying to keep his head down and survive the year, while also reminsicing about the dream girl he meets during the summer. Thanks to a Housing switch up, the two collide and all that they got through together is so much fun to read.

8). Werk It, Girl by stardropdream (sheith)

Summary: Keith is a contestant on Coran's Drag Race, competing to be the next Drag Superstar. Towards the end of the competition, the girls are given their weekly challenge: adopt a drag daughter into your drag house.

And in walks Shiro.

Working together in a competition is one thing, but Keith could never be prepared for everything that comes next.

And even if you're not familiar with the show or a fan of it, I still think you'll have a good time with this show, I know I certainly did 😊😉

But then again anytime you read a story by stardropdream, you're always guaranteed a fun time. Okay, well actually some of her stories may include angst, but always a fun time at the end of it. And this was a fun, fun time.

I didn't realize how much I needed drag queen Keith x drag queen in training until now, so thank you Robin for that.

9). right besides me series by @storybookprincess (tododeku)

Summary: "For as long as Todoroki could remember, touch was something to be avoided. Dodging blows in his father’s relentless training or curling in on himself and covering his face to try to hide from the merciless punishment for whatever transgression he had committed this time, touch was always pain, plain and simple. After his mother left, he was never held or kissed. No one hugged him or stroked his hair. People touched him to hurt him."

Or, Todoroki gets a hug and his whole world shifts on its axis.

Oh. MY. DEAR. GOSH. Oh. My. Dear. Heart. Oh. My. Dear. Dear. Shouto. Oh. My Sweet. Sweet. Izuku. And my dear gosh....go to hell Endeavor & kick rocks.

As you can guess by the previous sentence, this story made me feel many things.

As you can guess by the summary of the first part of the story, ever so gently, the feels come on so hard, so rapid, and you have no choice but to let the feelings consume you. Then the sequel, quid pro quo, comes in and finishes you in the best way. It certainly did with me.

This beautiful relationship starts with a hug. This story has severely touch-straved Shouto just in awe by Izuku, who was the first person to touch him gently in such a long time. Which starts this achingly beautiful, heartfelt pining.

This story has to be one of the best Todoroki Shouto's POV stories I've read. This also featured one of the softest, softest tododeku relationships ever. I do recommend this as a starter fanfic if you're new to the tododeku ship like I was. It was one of the first tododeku stories I've read and I still think about it.

10). Sourdough by @academicdisaster24 (drarry)

Summary: Draco writes romance novels and doesn't leave his apartment much. Harry bakes bread and sells it to Draco. Draco is quite weird. Harry might like that.

Fair warning: you will CRAVE soughdough bread like crazy. I know I did. At some points while I was reading, I was seriously tempted to get some bread.

And you will CRAVE to have that sweetness that Draco finds with Harry in this story.

We have Draco as a reclusive historical romance writer trying to write & baker Harry downstairs distracting him with the delicious scent of fresh-baked bread.

I don't think enough words can praise this story. Can show enough it was. Other than speculator, achingly-sweet, and just everything.

One of my favourite things about Voltron and Sheith writers seems to be our love for humour. There have been so many fics that have had me inappropriately laughing in the break room at work or making inhuman sounds that have made my partner run into the room to ask if I’m ok. Why I love this: Ok yes this is a classic of the fandom but honestly it’s just so endlessly funny. Honestly any time someone’s like “he was a lawyer” I blurt out “and he was a sandwich” despite the latter definitely not being true to the situation. Like when someone says they're fine but then sighs dramatically afterward they're probably not fine, Lance.

Like this definitely human kidney floating in a pot of ice in his sink.

Why I love it: This is the “definitely not a serial killer AU” that I highly recommend. Sheith are together, in love, they have their goodest boy, and everything is good. Why I love it: This is one of the first fics I read in this fandom and it came for me. I love cheesy hs au and this one was cute and absolutely hilarious. I loved watching Romelle and Sven disastrously flirt with each other and subsequently bring Keith and Shiro together. This also sold me forever on Keith and Romelle being siblings.

Why I love it: I’m so glad that I had a hand in helping this come to be. I still can’t walk through a mall food court without thinking about Shiro and the poutine. Also as someone that has worked in a mall this speaks to me on a spiritual level.

Why I love it: Meeting in a laundromat is usually a meet cute but this kind of turns int on his head. It’s weird, delightful, and honestly pretty sweet.

When Shiro lands an interview to be an assistant at Akira's company, he has a hard time believing it's reality. Though Akira's rarely around, meeting everyone is like a dream. Especially meeting Keith, Akira's shy sweet dorky cousin (OR IS HE?!)

Why I love it: This is a 2 person love triangle at its finest. I also think about the button scene on occasion. Whenever I gotta wear a shirt with buttons I’m just rocketed back to this story and I start laughing. It’ll also just put you through some emotional times. Honestly such a good ride the whole way through.

Ok so I guess it’s fanfic appreciation day? Let me shout out a few of my favourite writers and fics in VLD because that’s where I’m at right now: I Found a Reason (Teen and up) @superstressedspidergirl Shiro/Curtis - This takes place after the s8 trash fire and outlines how Shiro and Curtis got together. Actually *deals* with the aftermath of Shiro’s trauma, and shows a supportive, loving relationship being formed, and every time I read it - which is often - I cry tears of relief and joy for my favourite space boy. It is the balm that ALL OF YOU need right now.

Out and About (Mature) @barbitone Shiro/Lotor - I honestly love ALL of Barbitone’s fics - seriously, you can’t go wrong with anything in their archive! - but I have to rec this one, because I keep coming back to it over and over again because it’s so dang FUNNY! I’ve read it so many times and every single time I do, I laugh!! Takes place 20 years post s8 and imagines a reality where Lotor gets the happy ending he deserves - with Shiro, of course :)

To Make Guilty of Our Disasters (Explicit) @devilsofficialfanfic Lotor/Sendak - OK so they call Devil the patron saint of Lodak, and it’s a v v fitting title. Any fic where Lotor gets some justice and some love is one that I’m entirely here for. Devil pulls no punches about the paladins and their behaviour, so be prepared for that, as well as some soft, soft Lodak, which I didn’t know I needed before I read this. (And all their other fic. Again, you can’t go wrong with anything in their archive!)

The Peace-Weaver (Explicit) @saltyshiro Keith/Shiro - ok I need to put it out there that I’m really *not* a Sheith shipper? BUT. I can’t stop reading this fic!! This is a wildly-out-there pre-medieval AU, where there is magic, dragons, demons, spirits, swords, all kinds of good stuff, so that it doesn’t exactly *feel* like a Sheith fic to me, even though it absolutely is. I’m so impressed by all the storylines that are weaving through this! Mind the tags, though - if you find something in there that isn’t to your liking, look through the rest of their archive and you’ll still find some good, good food.
