#payneland #edwin x charles #dead boy detectives #dbda #pre canon angst brought to you by the weirdo who's always drawing post canon fluff #something about oral tradition and old timey slang #i took quite a lot of decisions with this one so buckle up #first of all the female ghost keeps edwin's eyes color because there's still some truth to the legend #the background is the same shade of green to reference hell #just like it is when he's having his flashback #alive charles is dressed all in black because he's not a happy boy #i also made it so that he grips his clothes when his mate punches him even as it's intended to be friendly #because well #these people will end up killing him so it's less friendly when you remember THAT #charles obviously doesn't mean anything by the mary ann comment #he doesn't know the slang meaning and just blurted out what he remembered from the legend #he will find out reach some conclussions and go punch a wall about it probably #about edwin tho his escape is still very recent and he didn't expect this #but even so early on he knows charles means no harm and allows himself to be comforted #it wasn't intentional but hey edwin shruggin off charles' touch is a good parallel to that one scene after charles “kills” the night nurse

A Linked Universe meets The Dark Crystal AU! I don't even remember what started it at this point. I remembered that the Dark Crystal and Age of Resistance are things I like, blinked, and woke up three days later with an AU and a bunch of art.

The designs and the story are a wip and for fun so expect a lot of variation! (I have a few different beginnings, ideas for different designs, etc)! :D

Want them to be happy too!#It might seem silly for these - how many sets in now? - to still be getting used to drawing them again lol but it's because they're adults!#Their clothes and the way they hold themselves - but also especially Sans lol I dunno why I have such difficulty with him at times #He's got a cute face and I still find myself like ????how your face #Other than that tho it's just silliness hehe ♪ My favourite lads :D #I feel the need to make the distinction: I do actually have different favourites based on the AU lol #Like for example in classic I still love Flowey just a tiiiiiny bit more than Papyrus but it really is constantly neck and neck #Whereas in Handplates it's no competition even a little bit lol - Papyrus is just my Very Favourite #But Gaster is my favourite Handplates-specific character since he's unique to the AU! It gets a bit in the weeds lol #Sans isn't far behind at all of course the trio are very important! The duo even moreso imo #Going back to gloves tho I did carry over one of my quirks from my original UT doodles about Papyrus' gloves lol #I initially envisioned them as combination mitten-gloves with a free index finger and all the rest together #I still rather like the design! But it is admittedly not Handplates accurate lol #The occasional dip into self-indulgence who me? Lol #Sleeping on each other is important to me as well!! he likes to keep it lighthearted and sweet; most of why people like having him officiate is because of his charisma. he’s great at handling whatever situation and usually good at ad libbing. and he genuinely loves doing it because well. it’s a party and it’s about people caring for each other, what’s not to love?

(tbh he probably tries to hide how much he cries at weddings but he just really likes love lol)

also! dreamland culture is kinda complicated, being made up of so many species from all over and who knows where, so there are a lot of different wedding traditions and no one way to do it
