wild how Ford, a car company made by Henry Ford, has tried to brush past the whole "our founder got named dropped in Mein Kampf" and "got the highest award a foreigner can receive (foreigner to Germany) from Hitler" and then decides to burn whatever bridge they started building by supporting yet ANOTHER genocide.
Henry Ford isn't even alive anymore. That company is rotten to its very core.

"Cobalt Red": Smartphones & Electric Cars Rely on Toxic Mineral Mined in Congo
The Democratic Republic of the Congo produces nearly three-quarters of the world's cobalt, an essential component in rechargeable batteries powering laptops, smartphones and electric vehicles.
But those who dig up the valuable mineral often work in horrific and dangerous conditions, says Siddharth Kara, an international expert on modern-day slavery and author of _Cobalt Red: How the Blood of the Congo Powers Our Lives_.
In an in-depth interview, he says the major technology companies that rely on this cobalt from DRC to make their products are turning a blind eye to the human toll and falsely claiming their supply chains are free from abuse, including widespread child labor.
"The public health catastrophe on top of the human rights violence on top of the environmental destruction is unlike anything we've ever seen in the modern context," says Kara. "The fact that it is linked to companies worth trillions and that our lives depend on this enormous violence has to be dealt with."

I am so fucking scared. I feel that... you know it's not about death. I'm not so scared of death. I'm so scared of being displaced. I want to go back to my home--and I'm so near, by the way... Gaza is so small. But I can't go there because the Gaza Strip is cut into pieces, and vehicles and tanks are in the borders between these pieces so I just can't go anywhere inside my homeland. My place. And... it's unacceptable. It's unimaginable. You know I have never imagined before that one day someone would just grab me from my... my homeland. My place. And just throw me away and prevent me to come back.
By the way, we don't know if we could go back. If we could go back again. Ever. And I'm so scared that they could displace us from Gaza Strip to the desert. [Bisan's voice breaks, she breaks into tears] We will die in the desert because of hunger. They displaced us to Egypt. To the north of Egypt, to Sanari desert. People just die. We will die.
[Sob] I don't know why do you guys are watching without doing anything to end this. Just in the... just stop it. Just stop it. Stop it in any price, stop it in any cost. Just stop it for anything. Just stop this. It's a nightmare. I can't continue just thinking about the displacement more and more. It's a nightmare. And I can't-- I can't keep it alive while thinking of being displaced more and more.
I just wanna go back to my home.

Israeli Tanks Spotted with Cope Cages in the Gaza Strip - Technology Org
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/israeli-tanks-spotted-with-cope-cages-in-the-gaza-strip-technology-org/
Israeli Tanks Spotted with Cope Cages in the Gaza Strip - Technology Org
Israel’s Merkava tanks, currently operating in the Gaza Strip, have been spotted with added armour devices, nicknamed “cope cages”. Their effectiveness was causing doubts even before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Now we have multiple videos of the Russian tanks getting blown up regardless of that tiny metal slat roof. So why do Israel Defense Forces cover their tanks with cope cages?

Of course, cope cage is not a technical term. Basically, it is a top-mounted piece of slat armour. Slat armour has been used since the Cold War and is known to be effective at least to some degree.
Basically, correctly spaced slats break RPG rounds, preventing them from detonating or forcing them to explode further from the actual hull of the armoured vehicle. Slat armour panels are typically mounted on the sides of a vehicle. For example, IDF operates many armoured bulldozers and their cabs are protected with slat armour.
However, while side-mounted slat armour raises no eyebrows and does work against some RPG rounds, top-mounted grilles were met with a large dose of skepticism. What are they protecting from? These cope cages, as they are now colloquially known, add weight, block some exit hatches and make these armoured vehicles easier to spot and target.
Furthermore, after noticing that Russians are mounting these grilles on their tanks in 2021 the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted an experiment – they blew up a BTR fitted with a T-64-like turret and a cope cage, proving that these grilles do nothing.

Many Russian tanks during the ongoing invasion were destroyed regardless of this added protection and Russian crews themselves later said that many of them preferred to remove them. And yet, despite all of this, something like cope cages were later deployed by the defenders of Ukraine and even Merkava tanks of the IDF in the Gaza Strip now have similar devices.
The story of cope cages is actually quite tangled and messy. First of all, Russians used improvised grilles, sometimes literally made from old fences. They hoped to protect their tank turrets from top-attack anti-tank missiles, such as the FGM-148 Javelin. That doesn’t work.
Later on, multiple Ukrainian tanks, including a Challenger 2, debuted a different top protection – some sort of netting. Those were different devices, meant to shield tanks from the Russian kamikaze drones. Finally, Israeli Merkavas do have top-mounted slat armour panels, but they are meant to protect from RPG rounds.

Israeli cope cages are based on the same principle like other pieces of slat armour – they protect against RPG rounds. Because these tanks are operating in the Gaza Strip, the IDF took into consideration that urban warfare is likely to be a very important part of it – RPGs can attack from higher up. Furthermore, Hamas has shown footage of drones dropping RPG rounds.
Still, the effectiveness of cope cages raises a lot of doubts. There were videos of Hamas drones targeting Israeli tanks with air-dropped RPG rounds just besides the slat armour panel. It just seems that drones – both single use kamikaze ones and the small quadcopter bombers – are going to change the next generation of main battle tanks, because the existing protection is simply not enough anymore.

“The back of an Amazon van feels like an oven in the summer,” said Cecilia Porter, another driver on strike, in a statement. “I’ve felt dizzy and dehydrated, but if I take a break, I’ll get a call asking why I’m behind on deliveries. We are protecting ourselves and saying our safety comes first.”
Singh previously told Motherboard about his experiences with driving in heat. “The vans we have—it's a big metal container. In the extreme heat it can get upwards of 130, 135 degrees inside the van,” he said at the time. “You walk in, and it’s sweltering, the wave of heat that hits you—the only comparison I can give you is like walking into an oven, because it’s that nasty dry heat. You feel like you’re just getting cooked back there. I go through 10-12 bottles of water a day, and I urinate once.”
They want air-conditioning in the vans so they don't die from heat stroke.
I haven't found anything saying the drivers want people to boycott Amazon, btw.

“One of them put his boot on my mouth while stomping on my chest with his other boot,” Majd said. The military vehicle stopped at an Israeli military checkpoint located at the northern entrance to Azzoun. Majd was taken out of the vehicle, forced to stand still and a soldier repeatedly assaulted him with the stock of his rifle on the chest, head, and waist while directing insults at him. “I was begging him to stop hitting me but to no avail. He then wrapped his hands around my neck, pressed with all his strength, and said to me in Arabic, ‘I'll kill you by strangulation.’" Majd passed out and regained consciousness around 5 p.m. and found himself in a room, lying on the ground and surrounded by a soldier, a cat, and a military dog. “I felt really scared, mostly because the sounds made by the dog were terrifying. I started screaming out of fear because the cat scratched my face many times,” Majd told DCIP. “The soldier said in Arabic, 'I will let the dog eat you.' "Israeli forces continued torturing Majd until around 2 a.m, slamming his head against a wall several times, causing him to collapse and ask for water, but his request was rejected and they forced him to remain silent. Israeli forces transferred him to Emmanuel Police Station for interrogation at 3:30 a.m where his tie and blindfold were removed. The interrogator accused him of throwing stones at Israeli military vehicles and then allegedly subjected the boy to physical violence for two hours, forced him to sign an electronic screen with an electronic pen, and tied his hands and blindfolded again, according to documentation collected by DCIP.
Between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2023, DCIP documented 838 cases where Palestinian children detained by the Israeli military were systematically tortured, handcuffed, blindfolded, strip searched, and denied access to food and water during the interrogation period. In nearly all cases documented by DCIP, Israeli authorities interrogated Palestinian child detainees without the presence of a lawyer or family member, and children were overwhelmingly denied a consultation with a lawyer prior to interrogation. Israeli forces use coercive tactics, including the use of informants, resulting in children unintentionally making incriminating statements or even false confessions.
