More lightning McQueen headcanons

I’m on a long ass roadtrip back home bc I’m moving. Things aren’t going slay so I’m projecting :D

Doc forces him to take sleeping pills or else Lightning won’t fall asleep at a decent time

He tends to get restless and overthinks

Most of it is due to media and racing

Gets horrible panic attacks

He had one in front of Doc and got super embarrassed after

Doc reassured him and was shockingly really good at comforting Lightning

He ended up prescribing him anxiety meds

Lightning tends to overdo it during practice and races

It’s a way to prove his worth

He has a fear of failure and doesn’t want to let anyone down

Months after Doc became Lightnings pit crew chief, Lightnings ended up pushing himself to sickness and injury

Obviously he kept going and said he was fine

Until sheriff dragged a half asleep Lightning back to Doc’s

Lightning thought Doc would be mad but he just got a lecture

Lightning never believed someone could care so much for him (besides Mack)

Doc will take Lightnings phone when the media becomes too much

Occasionally starts Twitter drama on accident

His stans will go to war with Chick Hicks stans

Lightning, Cal, Bobby, and Brick will bully each other online

Bobby Swift, Brick Yardley, Lightning McQueen and Cal Weathers are often so rediculous and unhinged (particularly when drink is involved) when they get together that their crew chiefs have been known to take it in turns to supervise the group. Strip gives up half way through his shift and joins them in their tomfoolery.

Fucking clumsy, by that I mean constantly falling, tripping, spilling things, knocking things, bumping into people seriously don't play basketball with this guy or especially not football, even falls while just standing in one place he probably wouldn't even dare to stand if he was forced to wear high heels.

Used to be in a Volleyball team

Welcome your local cat lover, small note here Strip is allergic to cats, must suck but anyways Cal once found a small family of cats, a protective yet sweet and clingy mother cat with 4 kittens. You must picture that scene where he found them in the barn but can't take them home due to his uncles allergies so after school or whenever he could he would check up on them bring the mother food and give them a nice ...place blanket or whatever (obviously after earning the cat's trust) and would keep it a secret but obviously Strip would sometimes go there and eventually Cal revealed the secret but begged his uncle and aunt not to move them. He didn't dare to take risks (my boy knows a lot about cats).

With a very cool person I know‼️ we made up the fact Strip is allergic to both cats and peanuts the same with Cal but he's only allergic to peanuts.

Has been living with Strip and Lynda since he was 13 and met Bobby in highschool → went to 2 highschools after hardly convincing his uncle to let him switch schools, 9th grade in a normal highschool before going to a school to learn coding and other computer things.......yes (quick note I have no idea how different the American and Hungarian school system is so if I got shit wrong I will remake it.) He met Bobby after switching schools.

Likes art and is quite good at it mostly drawing planes and cars sometimes people, but got into racing more after meeting Bobby who's been a big race fan for years...also likes graffiti art but only did them after switching schools.

Mostly grunge and rock music listener.

Plays the guitar.

Kinda random...once stole an ukulele from some small art meeting thing (IDK WHAT IT'S CALLED outside of school activity)

Was the first to befriend Cal once my boy moved schools

After the meeting Cal started drawing people more and you could maybe guess who he was drawing!

Cal can talk for hours about cats and cars, Bobby would listen. Bobby can talk for hours about cars and racing and Cal would listen.

Graffiti art mentioned? Bobby already joked / stated if they ever become a racer their racing number would be 19 and their car would be....probably purple ( I got cool news!)

Cal already could do graffiti art, his first one (on wall,.. if it makes sense) was the number 19, (obviously detailed and colored) small gift for Bobby (who still has it in their gallery and even as a wallpaper) although they eventually did get into trouble for it that was for something else but not the 19 one.

Piston Cup Racer HCs (Post Retirement because eh.)

This is partially due to my sheer lack of motivation and laziness to write a post-retirement Bobby fic whoops.

Would go MIA for a really, really long time

This def strained the friendship between the Trio but they caught up eventually

Isolated himself from the racing world for months, heard about Lightning’s crash but didn’t comment

Cycle of guilt and self hatred!!! My boy needs THERAPY please

He watched the race where Cruz won though

Started teaching kids at his local circuit how to race.

Never accepted a job as crew chief from his previous sponsors.

Brick

Went on an emotional plant-shopping spree

Renovated his house to fit all the new green babies (lol)

He’s always been a pretty positive guy

Was def hurt by the way his sponsor dropped him, and he never wore their livelry again and never agreed to appear whenever they asked him to make a guest appearance

Met Chase not on extremely good terms, but got a soft spot for the kid

Kept in touch with the other racers, they’ve hosted quite a few get-together at his place

And his Next-gen racer replacement popped up in my view? Oh, absolutely it makes sense. (For those who don't know HtB got a diecast for a Next-gen racer- His name is Rowdy Revvin' Busch.)

Vitolines also made me laugh bc its basically vitamin water for cars 😭 its so cute- Chase and Brick having to say that in commercials makes me giggle,,

Octain Gain's my favorite- thinking of Danny and Bobby having to say thay makes so much sense to me

Human AU headcannon: Dale Earnhardt Jr is the unofficial fifth friend in Lightning, Cal, Bobby, and Brick’s friend group.

Although Dale’s a little bit older and has been racing a bit longer, he enjoys hanging out with them (and they enjoy hanging with him too). He’s the one with the brain cell, but most of the time, chooses not to use it (he has terrible impulse control like his old man).

I think it's interesting how in the Cars 3 book, Brick Yardley is mentioned several times almost as a fourth friend to Lightning, Cal, and Bobby

I swear this is a very important question. These are just the characters I've seen him shipped with, because I want to gauge which ship is the most popular for a fic I want to write. Feel free to give different answers or more explanation if needed.

Lightning - Nothing. Bro's favourite subject is likely recess, let's be honest. Or maybe sports, if we're really stretching it

Brick - Biology. Knowing it makes everything around him feel so much more real and alive

Bobby - Chemistry -> experiments were epic, what can he say

Junior - Literature. He likes pondering the meaning of texts, how everything has hidden meanings and it makes language so... intimate.

Strip (The King) - History. Not so much of the memorisation, but the stories behind decisions, how they spiralled down into pathways of action, how it became what we have now.

Chick Hicks - English. he claims it's easy therefore the best... (he did not like school)

Jackson Storm - Math. He's a huge math genius. Just got that natural talent somehow somewhere

Cruz - Any language. She loves learning about different languages and cultures, it's just so cool!!
