not vegsnism related, but would you say gambling companies are unethical?
I think that for-profit gambling corporations are for sure unethical, yes. They purposely prey on addiction and have devoted millions of dollars of research on capitalising on impulsive and addictive behaviours. I am unaware of any for-profit betting platform that has anything that could be reasonably considered as ethical standards.

Hi! I am quiche anon and I hope your quiche will turn delicious! I am a bit curious: why have you decided to become vegan soon? Feel free not to answer if it is too nosy by my part
The UN’s body for assessing climate change (IPCC) just released another report yesterday about steps taken globally that will turn the tide. One of those things that individuals can do that will help the most is turn towards a more plant based diet. Either vegetarianism or vegsnism. Other recommendations included reducing waste, giving land back to its indigenous owners and supporting them and local women in their conservation efforts. Of course it’s vitally important big businesses producing carbon emissions and crazy amounts of plastic for no reason need to stop. But being vegan is something I can do to help. But I want to make sure I can stick to that choice so I’m slowly transitioning. I’ve been vegetarian for a month now. Hope that answered your question!

My sister is allergic to soy, tree it’s, and peanuts, as well as a number fruits. She stopped being vegan but was going to become one again until she found out about the soy allergy
Theres also the fact that being vegan is a privilege for those who can afford. Yes my sister was able to do it on food stamps, but if you a single income household with 3 or 4 children, living on food stamps and paycheck to paycheck, it’s so much harder to be vegan and still eat a variety of foods and make sure your children have a variety of foods.
Than there’s the health portion of it. Of course being Vegan is healthy! But there are conditions, such as allergies, that make it incredibly hard to be vegan.
Then there’s the fact that being vegan is your own choice. Vegsnism is a great option for some but to act like it’s the only way is short sited at best.
I am a huge perponet of changing the way we test farm animals and stopping the way things are, but there’s no need to act as if people are bad for not being vegan.

can I just say before I dive in that I am an environmental scientist. not that it means a whole lot with all the neuroscientists nowadays, but hhhhhhhh ya
Disclaimer: I only want to give my thoughts and educate, and possibly learn something. I like to hear all sides of things and I’d love to have an informative conversation about veganism vs. ethical omnivorism vs. regular eating habits. so dont @ me if you’re being mean or not listening to what others have to say.
Talyn, there are reasons why people aren’t vegan.
I’m not about that cAnCeLlEd life, but one would think that you’d be understanding and open minded about people. you’d think you’d at least try to understand from their point of view why they’re not vegan.
like, ily still..i stan p hard so dont think I’m one of those people who suddenly hate ya. I dont even truly know you, as this is social media. but this post (from their Instagram story) took me a second to process. idk lemme explain hshsgdhs
I like the vegan lifestyle. I think it’s cool. but there are some issues with it.
I am an ethical omnivore. I eat locally sourced meats, and as much non meats as I can, because in my head, eating purely veggies and fruits that get imported from all around the world seems a lot worse for the planet than eating locally sourced meats. Kenya had to stop exporting avocados recently due to everyone taking too much of it. Like there’s a literal shortage. idk dude to the regular eaters’ credit, that’s an extremely valid point that I have heard. As someone who actively does environmental work, I can tell you that ethical omnivores (while we aren’t magically fixing the planet with our ~*magical*~ lifestyles, much like vegans aren’t) support the demand of well raised animals.
also, it kinda gets people to think more than veganism does. due to the stereotypes that have wrongly been attached to vegans, it is a lot easier to educate and explain these things to regular meat eaters. people dont listen when all people say is “gO vEgAn”, they tune out.
The planet (used to) run on a balance of predator and prey. I know. I know its cliche to say it, and you’re probably so over hearing it and so am I, but it’s true. until people started being the worst and making inhumane “farming” practices a thing, that’s how it was. the current practices aren’t helping anyone tbh. If everyone were to go vegan like I’m guessing you’d like, we would have to use a lot of soy based products. Now, vegans and I have cut down tremendously on soy due to it not being the answer to everything, but we are talking world scale population here (hypothetically). so if we did that, we would still have to grow soy on a global scale where it’ll grow, because veganism would be difficult to practice without any soy at all. that would completely wreck the soil and the land due to the mass production of the stuff. plus–you know America specifically. We are assholes. We work on a capitalist system and they’d completely take advantage of people to harvest the stuff–unethically, I might add.
besides, ethical omnivirism would hypothetically work pretty well (ideally) as far as grass grazing is concerned. the grass fed animals do to grass kind of how humans do for hair when they trim it regularly.
Also, as far as vegan foods that are like “vegan bacon, vegan sausage” etc is concerned, I do use it quite a bit, but I have to admit like….it…it isnt real food???? real food in my head sounds way better than gums and processed protein and stuff like… for the body.
Things die no matter what. it’s a part of life. studies show that even plants react to human emotions, so if some vegans truly believe that humans are on the same pedestal as living beings, be prepared to never eat again. it’s just water for you guys, my friends.
Also, fuck PETA. they have nothing to do with this post but they’re just the worst lol

how old is vegsnism?
That really depends on who you ask. Dorothy and Donald Watson founded The Vegan Society in 1944, after the coining the term ‘vegan,’ so in terms of the modern vegan movement, it’s 76 years old. The philosophy of not harming animals however, is much older than that, we see examples of it in ancient Greece, and in the traditions of the peoples of the Indus valley even before that.
Personally, I don’t believe that we can really count spiritual adherents as ‘vegan’ in the way we understand it now, and I’m unconvinced they had really adopted a vegan lifestyle or advocated for vegan ethics surrounding animal rights and animal exploitation, at least not in the modern sense we understand it now. For me, veganism began with the founding of the Vegan Society, but was built on the thousands of years of philosophical thought which proceeded it.

Please watch this video and open your heart. THIS is what is really happening in the world. Things won't change unless people make the change. Our world is crumbling before our very eyes but people are too blind to see the harsh reality. All people need to make the switch to a vegan lifestyle not only for the animals but our planet and our health. Choose compassion over killing.
