Genuine question. I'm very passionate about conservation and helping animals and the planet, but a lot of people say you cannot be a conservationist without being vegan. Issue is..I don't wanna be vegan, I have AFRID and can't do it. I've tried. I saw your vegan posts and were curious your thoughts on those type of claims!
My thoughts on those type of claims are that it's pretty damned interesting who, specifically, they exclude.
They leave behind disabled people like yourself with medical and/or psychiatric conditions that make a vegan lifestyle impossible.
They leave behind Indigenous peoples such as the Inuit who live in places where agriculture is poor or impossible, and/or ones where no one can reasonably afford the costs of produce on account of shipping prices.
They leave behind the urban, suburban, and rural people who live in food deserts...who are statistically likely to be racialized.
They leave behind the unhoused and otherwise impoverished who must choose calorie-rich food to survive...who are statistically likely to be racialized, disabled, and/or queer.
They leave behind and deny the existence and invaluable work of Indigenous peoples who have done just fine stewarding the land while eating meat and using animal products for millennia.
They advocate for the extinction of the domesticated honeybee and the replacement of wool and leather with petroleum-based plastic products.
So it sure looks to me like those claims are ableist, racist, classist, colonialist, and homophobic — and thus are full of shit.
To each according to his needs; from each according to his means.

Made some mac and no cheese tonight with roasted veggies and sausages and my tummy is so happy. Radiatori is truly the prefect pasta for a cheese sauce.
Tumblr media
Sauce is not measured, but it's hippie dust, fake milk, fake butter, tahini, miso, gochujang, and spices. Including a bunch of the sage @moistglutealcleft's partner gave me!

veganism was truly the worst thing to happen to vegetarianism.. used to be u could get a veggie meal that still had animal protein in it and now all u can get is shit plant based alternatives in everything with fake meat and white mystery sauce instead of mayo and cheese. why do this to me specifically

nothing makes me feel like a golden god quite like a new recipe turning out delicious on the first try. unfortunately, conversely nothing makes me feel more 'I am god's mistake' than spending all that time and effort on something and having to make a sandwhich b/c the results were inedible if you want to retain your capacity for delight. the duality of home chef

its interesting to still see posts of people arguing with imaginary vegans while the diet/wellness sphere has moved on to keto diets and bone broth

bitches be like. i hate vegans so much that i’ve decided i like killing animals and its fine and i dont feel bad and animals dont have feelings and its fine and im cool subversive and different and edgy and like to post fucked up stuff to make vegans uncomfortable bc im just so cool
#you sound like every cishet republican man to me#you're not a Cool Subversive Leftist you're literally regressing by seeing animals as just objects of your pleasure and thats it lmao#im sorry but you dont just get to throw out all of veganism. it does infact have some roots in leftism.#you can sit there and cope with the fact you agree w some vegan talking point by calling it 'animal welfare' all you want#doesnt change the fact that a lot of those ideas in those circles were formed by vegans.#damn woooah vegans arent a monolith and dont all agree on the same shit woooahhh who knew#literally i have no idea how we even got to this point or how this would be surprising.#when i was on vegan twitter bitches were arguing all the fucking time within it. ur really gonna sit ther en tell me they're all secret#eco fash that hates native ppl and people who have to eat meat? ya sure???#you would think the individuals on tumblr- of all places- would understand how frustrating it would be to be grouped in with the worst#members of their community as if you represent them and are the sole spokesperson#you'd think they'd hate when someone jumps to conclusions about them based on their lifestyle#but naur. i think yall take it too personally. as if a vegan just being in a room is somehow trying to force you to be vegan.#literally grow tf up.#if a vegan being in the same room with you triggers feelings in you that you Have to stop eating meat- i really think thats a you problem#bud. homeboy hasnt even spoke to you leta lone look at you and apparently you feel this weird pressure now#idk man dont you think that pressure might be coming within?? maybe.... you do infact feel things and feel a lil guilty abt eating meat?#not telling you to stop... i still eat meat here n there. but at least im honest with myself about how it makes me feel to do it.#its infact normal to take a second to think about the loss someone made in exploitation to provide you with whatever.#if you can let yourself feel a lil guilt about buying a fast fashion thing you can sure as fuck finally extend your fuckin empathy to#animals and stop treating them like objects or toys.

i have to wonder what super hardcore militant vegans think should be done about obligate carnivore animals, because in all my painfully-rapidly-approaching-30-years i've literally never actually seen anyone give a clear consistent much less halfway feasible answer on that
#mostly i've just seen like “how dare you ask questions you just want an excuse to murder you're sealioning ect”#or worse some vague and wildly improbable nonsense about like. fake robot animals covered in beyond meat or something equally convoluted#which is a thing i did see someone suggest as a serious answer#i mean i already know they think i'm a genetically inferior hateful vampire that should starve to death for the greater good#because my exact combination of health conditions make meat basically the only semi-safe way i can get close to enough nutrients#i know this because they have repeatedly told me that i'm either evil or should be sacrificed or both#and yelled at me for asking questions by bringing up the whole disabled thing and then they're like#“a lot of vegans i know are advocates for disability!” as if that ever means jack shit in the society that results from anything#no matter what you do a vast majority of people in any given society will *not* be advocates for the disabled. i'm sorry they just won't.#and what do you think public perception of people who physically can't survive like that is going to skew towards#in a society founded on the belief that non-vegan diets are evil?#at absolute best we're looking at being a heavily marginalized class generally seen as something like vampires and our existences taboo.#(as if these type's own insistence that they should be allowed to harass and shame people doesn't disprove their assertion that we won't be#thinking it could possibly go any better than that is a fucking fairy tale. human nature doesn't work that way.#you simply cannot eliminate the human desire to designate and abuse a class of have-nots. the absolute best you can do is mitigate damage.#take it from someone who's been multiple kinds of disabled and chronically ill all my life. people will not “just”. ever.#i get this even from people who are otherwise very aware of and VERY GOOD at avoiding this sort of thinking#“i'm a disability advocate!” no you are not. you are a poster. my experience has taught me that what people advocate for in their free time#means precisely jack shit for how they will actually act when faced with the situations they make otherwise rational posts about#and the fact of the matter is even if you somehow really are the perfect disability advocate a majority of people WILL NOT BE YOU.#a majority of people in society will be margrat from accounting who clutches her pearls when she sees the gays and thinks autism isnt real#and who has never had a nuanced thought in her life and actively does not want to#a vast majority of people in your Vegan Utopia will not be you and your friends who march with wheelchair users and volunteer at the shelte#a vast majority of people in your Vegan Utopia will be jenny who starved 8 cats to death on broccoli because she can't be bothered#and who thinks that “carnivores” are actual nazis and don't deserve healthcare because she saw someone say that online.#ALWAYS assume your society will be made up mostly of the worst kind of person it can because it WILL ALWAYS BE TRUE and you can't change it#most people seek the low-effort option. and evil is most often banal and low-effort.#i'm just so fucking tired of every single even vaguely lefty-adjacent political movement simultaneously acting like i don't fucking exist#and at the same time that i need to be sacrificed to achieve Utopia. god. at least conservative whackjobs are upfront and honest about#how they think that i'm a burden on society that needs to be Eugenics'd . rather than trying to morally gaslight me about it.

I was in a cult. And I see so many similarities w veganism and things I heard in my cult. Especially the black and white thinking and the guilt of being human and having to behave as a human animal does! Just throwing that out there cause a lot deny the similarities
Phew. Shit. Glad you got out of it, Anon.
If you were to ask me, I’d tell you that cults abound these days. Militant veganism, prosperity gospel heresies, stan culture, incels, diet fad fanatics, pyramid scheme pushers, kids faking rare or debunked disorders for tiktok views, “tradwife” grifters (ie, pornhub for neo-nazis), MAGAts, and a million different micro-cults of personality propped up around one celebrity or another. That shit’s everywhere.

I know I'm very late to this, but it's Nice Ask Week!
When do you think Carlos found out that TK can cook? What was the first thing TK made for him and what was the occasion?
Hey friend 🥰🥰 I think it took a while but it did happen before Carlos moved in. Usually, Carlos just likes to cook and take care of others and TK helps him cut if he helps at all and doesn't just gobble down ingredients. But of course Carlos has late shifts and by the time they get so close that TK just stays over at Carlos' without him there, TK wants to surprise him with a dish. I think he'd go for comfort, something he cooked for himself but not one of the go-to quick meals. A labor of love with a garantued outcome.
Maybe I'm projecting my own penchant for cooking East Asian food, but I think TK might make five spice pork. Also because he misses getting it from Spring Street. If you do eat meat, definitely give this a try!! https://vjcooks.com/chinese-pork-belly/

i don’t think any angel would have a problem with eating animals, i think you’d have a problem convincing them they shouldn’t also be allowed to eat humans.

What foods are considered haram?
pork, alcohol (not a food but yk), blood, carnivorous animals, insects, and animals that die in any way other than the islamic way of slaughter :D
oh, also, when we slaughter them it has to be in the name of god. if we dont say "in the name of god" or "in the name of allah" or any of his titles, or if we name a god worshipped other than allah (e.g. jesus), then the meat is considered haram

I feel like my almost instantaneous attachment to Chief is in part due to the hyper specific concept of both being a POC and having an anxiety-based disorder. Cuz like let’s think. Is it REALLY paranoia if you’re personally aware of the fact that both historically and in current time, people just deadass DON’T LIKE YOU?? Is it REALLY overreacting if you realistically can’t fully trust the majority of the people around you?? At what point can I reason with myself that my brain is inherently dysfunctional and is constantly in panic mode and when can I acknowledge that the reason I’m terrified of something or someone because they might ACTUALLY hurt me?? Who am I supposed to trust knowing that the people societally put in place to protect DO NOT want to protect me?? Can I stay inside forever?? Can I lock myself in one place and never leave again?? Wait goddamnit ethic parents don’t play like that I’ve gotta actually have a life.
Maybe his character wasn’t meant to be read in such a way, and regardless it’s not like he’s gonna resonate with me completely cuz like. I’m black. We’re comin from different perspectives here. Idk what I’m sayin man he’s just my guy and I love him and I really need to look for more media with severely anxious individuals who AREN’T being weirdly infantilized or romanticized so that I can salivate over them and murmur “Literally me……literally me……” while violently gripping a pencil to draw them. Lol lmao.
