Tjis is like the one reason it's good that fantasy catholicism is actually fantasy protestantism in dragon age. For me personally at least.

is that male character you love really groundbreakingly emotionally complex or is he actually just a carbon copy of every other byronic hero. quickly
#and is there coincidentally a woman five feet away from him who has something vastly more interesting going on. food for thought#‘he’s so complex!’ and it’s literally every other man who’s ever been kind of sad and traumatized

I relate to Sanji too much because it really does seem like he’s adopted the mentality that physical and mental abuse is a form of significant affection but only directed towards himself, like he sees it’s wrong and unjust when other people are being abused, but when he’s the victim he feels this conflicted sense of I deserve it and Wow they love me so much! It’s heartbreaking just to think about tbh
#it makes sense looking at his past#and how he interacts with people he cares deeply about—besides woman who he holds#to a higher standard which I more so interpret as him looking back#on his mother and not wanting to see them abused and sick and whatnot like she was#look at how he acts around Zeff and compare it to Zoro—it’s the exact same really#not compare the above with his brothers—he’s cold towards them and obviously wants nothing to do with them completely different#to the amount of emotion displayed in his eyes AND body when conversing with the men on his crew and Baratie#hes a victim of physical and psychological abuse and severe child neglect(?)#he’s going to have a vastly different way of expressing his emotions and how he expresses them to loved ones#for woman it’s unashamed intense infatuation#that he usually expresses with a showering of flowery lovey dovey words and gifts#for men it’s closed off and angry but once you get to know him he shows his kinship through his ACTIONS#idk if any of this makes sense to anyone else lol#but Sanji is a really interesting character when looking at him through the lens of an abused child#one piece#vinsmoke sanji#black leg sanji

it ever hit you out of nowhere that castiel is living in a dead guy's body and the show just does not care. it does not care. jimmy novak might as well not exist the moment he or claire is out of sight. cas stole a guy's body and his face and his life, and we can't ever talk about it or discuss it in detail because of how fucking horrifying it is that sam and dean's best friend just walks around in a dead guy suit. there's not even a human soul in there anymore. it's just a corpse. stone-cold body snatcher indeed.
#castiel spn#spn#this is not like a Castiel Crime (tm) to be clear. this is more me being (un)surprised that the show is Like This.#castiel is a horror story he is so much a horror story in the rapture#and then they just uh. never bring up again how horrifying and fucked up this is for another like 7 seasons#and when they do its to briefly go :( claire lost her dad :) but its okay! she forgives cas for it!#which!! NO SHE SHOULD FUCKING NOT!!!#but we can't have that discussion. we can't talk about that. because to acknowledge that it's fucked up would mean making cas kind of. evil#in a way that would vastly improve his later character arcs btw. if we had to reckon with not only this massive transgression#but with the fact that cas himself STILL DOESN'T SEE IT AS ONE.#that on a lot of fundamental levels. he is still functioning as he did in s4. a lot of that base programming is still there.#something something how cas never changes out of his suit under his trenchcoat#but it's like. jimmy said yes. so it's fine. that's what it is to him.#anyway. i wish they hadn't been scared of making all three of the boys more fucked up in later seasons.#thank GOD for dean being interesting in how he becomes Worse <3 because they were not bringing that for castiel.#again. good version of spn where jimmy's bloodline is an off-shoot of the lucifer vessel bloodline. explaining a) how lucifer Got In There#and b) letting lucifer possess claire later so that the two of them can have daddy issues together.#something about cas being the monster-not monster that jimmy let in that destroyed his life.#something about lucifer being the monster-not monster that castiel lets in later. the cycles. they are cycling.

not to take a break from writing my own fanfic to talk about my own fanfic but im really looking forward to lqg showing up because we've seen little of him thus far, and the reason for that is that he is not following any of the peak gossip at ALL and seldom ever lingers after meetings. thus far the Full Extent of what lqg knows about the sy situation and all peripheral events is:
- there is a child
- small shen? (does not know sy's name)
- zhangmen-shixiong's son (he took that one joke qi qingqi made when sy first arrived so literally and has not questioned it At All. he is not confused he is just very confidently incorrect)
- Shen Qingqiu Tried To Murder Zhangmen-Shixiong
#mottau#hes vastly more interested in/aware of the Stabbing Incident and even then#he has just but fixating on the fact that It Happened and that its Not Been Answered For#he has not heard a single fucking whisper of the theories surround why shut popped off#in his mind sqq stabbing yqy is not surprising the only surprising thing is that no one has Done Anything about it yet

lying here in bed and thinking abt how alienated out i feel in the cookie run fandom. and then theres a polish sitcom playing in the background from a different room.
#mostly like. i feel so alienated out for like. having such different views of chars.#dark choco is a char i find myself to relate to a lot. i see so much of myself in him.#and yet. i cant get fully interested and that makes me feel. am i even a true fan of his character#if my interpretation is so vastly different from the fandoms#and how his kingdom is probably my least favourite out of all the ancients' kingdoms#for how i feel like ppl and the narrative tend to forget how dark cacaos kingdom is so flawed.#like the whole “no sweet meals” thing. i am not talking abt irl influences and how it impacts the presentation of the kingdom but more like#i feel like ppl tend to perfectionize dark cacao kingdom while ignoring a ton of systematic issues in it.#then theres my opinion on hollyberry. i love her. shes my favourite ancient. but i wish we got a more serious storyline with her#im not all catched up on the lore but i just wish rlly wish we got more of the hollyberry kingdom. and see holly display a wider range of-#-emotions.#i hope the eternal sugar update will get us some hollyberry kingdom angst because i need some more serious characterization for her that r-#-not just snippets#then theres. white lily. i feel like im the only person who liked the fact white lily got her own kingdom and was split into two versions.#it DID come out of nowhere but like. i feel like its sort of more interesting than just white lily being fully DE?#her update was a fiasco with how shadow milk stole the show that was meant to be hers.#but like. so many of my opinions are different than the fandoms that i just cant help but feel like an intruder sometimes#i dont want to sound like a pick me or someone who thinks they r special for being different. because im not.#i do not like this feeling. but i needed to be open abt it ig#cookie chat#theres also like. the lack of proper characterization for carrow besides “good loyal soldier”.#that annoys me as hell too#fyi i DO NOT hate dark cacao kingdom to be clear. i love it a ton. the cultural influences are so interesting and i love the setting.#i just wish ppl didnt brush off a lot of systematic flaws abt it.

Mafia Opera being far more rough and tumble and just generally scrungly, but also way more touchy with Iruma, we get few moments of contact in canon but literally every chapter in irumafia has Opera holding or leaning on Iruma's shoulders or something to keep him close. I'm.
#there's something very interesting in the contrast between canon's 'here's a panel of Iruma and his family cuddling'#and they're all in bed under the blankets but there's more space between them there's this almost formal level of pajamas#vs Mafia Iruma falling asleep on Opera in the car and he's just close to them#i dunno very interesting how the same idea of 'intensely loyal bodyguard who blends family and work' is vastly different in the two contexts

being super normal about White calling Billy "a dreamer"after the events of Maybe No Go
#truly alarming amount of tags on this post don't click read more fr#the venture bros#pete white#bily quizboy#billy whalen#idk man the way they balance each other is really interesting#the things they agree on and disagree on are almost arbitrary#'you can't put mouthwash in a cookie' 'trust me' vs 'we should spend 10 mil on a motorcycle instead of housing' 'that's such a cool idea'#billy trying to pep white up about the ball#'this was your dream too' like come on dude when have pete's dreams ever worked out#when have yours#'what are we gonna do now billy?' 'we'll cross that bridge when we come to it'#baby the bridge has never been more present#ALSO white calling billy the dreamer when HE'S the one who pushes so hard for things#billy has dreams that might not be realistic but they give him hope and he works around the way the world works to make things happen#like being a self-taught surgeon and believing in a magic ball#pete has dreams IN SPITE of what is realistic and he will mold reality to be what he wants in order to make it happen#like fixing the quizshow and pretty much everything that happened in invisible hand of fate#and they both have disabilities that affect them in vastly different ways and impact their relationship with realistic goals#like billy's hydrocephalus being presented to the audience as mostly a social issue for him and the hand and eye being marks of trauma#rather than like an actual block for him beyond needing to tune the hand up every now and then#vs white's albinism making him physically unable to be in direct sunlight and making him actively fearful of doing certain things and#being certain places#to be clear i know the actual effects of hydrocephalus as well as the hand and eye but this is based on how the show presents it#like billy took these things about himself into account and went ok these are part of my reality and i will work with them#and pete took his reality and went ok i will cover it up with fake tan and wigs or sunscreen and hats and make reality what i want it to be#and that's what makes them a good team!! that's why they science together well#it's also why they argue so much#accepting reality and playing within its constraints vs hating reality and changing it to suit you#these are the hallmarks of scientific progress

also for the record i started my entire pjo/hoo binge to re-evaluate people’s opinions on jason grace. i was like surely he can’t be that bad we must just be mad at him because he’s not percy.
i’m on the lost hero now.
i’m joining the war on jason hate on the side of jason hate THIS BOY—
#i’m exaggerating he’s FINE#he and piper are FINE. like they’re interesting and complex characters#but also they are just NOT my kind of characters and i hate how mean they are to leo#and then when you contrast it with how fucking banger the trio dynamic between the son of neptune crew is#it’s like. EH. like jesus christ leo valdez just tackled his trauma AND rebuilt a MASSIVE BRONZE DRAGON#while you two moped about nothing for an entire night#i like piper vastly more than jason. but they both irritate me#STOP FOLLOWING ARBITRARY RULES!!! BE NORMAL!!!!#hoo#tlh#jason grace

the dark forest as a place of deceptive beauty - forever a vibrant night where so many the plants shine with colour, lighting the way through lush forests and grassy hills. you can hear the sounds of birds singing, of gentle waves sent from calm waters. it’s the picture of paradise, a promise of good hunting and comfort when you sleep. but it’s all empty. no matter how hard you search, no prey can be found. the birdsong is an illusion, the taunting call of food that does not exist here. it’s landscapes, despite their appearance, provide no refuge - any attempt to rest or stay in one area will result in the land creeping up to bury you inside it, or string you up in it’s vast canopy of branches as a decoration. the calm rushing water will weigh down anyone who steps inside it, tormenting them with memories from their own lives in an attempt to overwhelm them into giving up the fight against it. there is no peace to be found here.
#idk i just thinkthere’s so much to be done with it!!#like there are so many ways to portray the dark forest and i think it goes vastly unexplored#you could also do something like this with starclan as a metaphor for Everything It Is That They Do but i would need to think way harder to#really build on that concept the way it deserves to be built upon#anyway this is inspired by how beautiful it looks in the crookedstar amen map. that might be starclan though#i just think that it’s interesting!!! what if the horse clearing hawkfrost showed ivypool actually Was the dark forest#the trainees know that these are bad cats#but they appear so kind and are surrounded by more beauty then they’ve ever seen#the dark forest#the place of no stars#warrior cats#wc

I just want to say something about Kakashi and the fact that he never lashes out against the system or tried to fix it himself.
Something i’ve seen him compared to is Gojo who states he ‘could kill all the higher ups’ but i think a lot of people forget that he also says ‘nothing would change’ (which is funny to me because i saw the manga shot once and remembered it and i don’t watch JJK)
There’s a few reason’s this doesn’t work for Kakashi
1) OG Kakashi couldn’t do that.
Kakashi in OG Naruto wasn’t on par with Hiruzen. He’d lose that fight. Yes he’s an assassine but Hiruzen is a Hokage level shinobi.
He’s not going to be snuck up on that easy and in a 1 vs 1 battle Og Kakashi is not winning. War arc or Hokage Kakashi might win, but not OG Kakashi. He still has a lot of growing to do in his skills.
2) as Gojo said, nothing would change
If Kakashi could and did kill Hiruzen, then what? Tsunade maybe gets convonced to take the job or Danzo gets it. Kakashi ends up a Rogue Ninja away from all his friends, painted as the bad guy for trying to in-force his beliefs over everyone?
Gai is on par with Kakashi. Maybe he could take the rest of Konoha but Gai, Jiraiya (if he’s there), Tsunade (if she’s there)
Like, they’d all probably turn on him and try to kill him. He wouldn’t be there hero. No one would be throwing him parties.
He’d be the bad guy in everyone’s eyes.
This man has lost so much that i think that would shatter him. He wouldn’t have any more will to fight ir change shit. His will to fight the system is already so broken even when we see him go against orders.
3) it doesn’t match Kakashi’s established ‘style’
Kakashi isn’t someone who does things alone. His main motto is teamwork.
If Kakashi were to go against the system and try to change it, he’d do it with his friends. He’d convince them that the system is broken (or maybe they realize themselves like Gai) and that they need to change it.
He’d probably avoid killing.
Kakashi was an assassine but as soon as he gained power he changed the law so instead of killing enemies shinobi were to capture them.
If Kakashi can think of a way to do things without killing, he will. Everyone has a different answer to changing things (Sasuke=kill everyone, Obito & madara= eternal dream, Nagato = making everyone else suffer). Kakashi’s answer is peaceful solution where there can be one.
4) that’s not the point of this story
Naruto wants to be Hokage. Do i think he should have changed and recognized the system? Yes. But that’s not how Kishi wrote it.
In Kishi’s story as we read it, anyone directly against the system is bad no matter what their solution. Zabuza is bad until he ‘changes his mind before death’, Obito is bad until he switches side, Sasuke is bad until Naruto ‘convinces him’)
Kishi would only write Kakashi lashing out directly against the system if he wanted to make Kakashi into a bad guy in his story. Since Kakashi is one of his good guys, he had him silently and slowly changing the system with his own actions and teachings.
Kishi simply didn’t write Kakashi being against the syatem in the same way the JJK author wrote Gojo being against the system because his world is very black and white. Good and bad. (Even though Gojo’s solution is the exact same as Kakashi’s).
Kakashi is a character i believe should have been more against the current system, demanding change because he has lost so much to that system. But that’s simply not the character Kishi wrote.
Edit: may I add this man would absolutely go to bat for his students. He defied Hiruzen to save Tenzo from Danzo. He tell’s his student’s to always put their teammates before their mission and that extebds to putting his precious people over the village if he has to.
#Hatake Kakashi#i’m high so feel free to ignore me#but i wanted to talk about ky fav dork man#and a very interesting topic#i personally like his complexity because he clearly recognizes how broken the system is#but he sort of accepts that he personally can’t change it so he has to guide the future generation to be better#and make changes that he believes he doesn’t have the power to make#a very important thing about Kakashi’s character is he is broken#just like other’s are broken#naruto is broken and he responds by being overly cheerful and forgiving#sasuke is broken and responds by being angry and vengeful#kakashi is broken#he feels lost and weak#he recognizes his skills as a shinobi and nothing else#his spirit was shattered a little more with each person he lost#he doesn’t have the energy to be angry or happy#he only has the energy to exist abd try and help the future to be better#Gojo is all powerful and cocky from what i’ve sene#i know they both have silver hair but their personalities seem vastly diffrent

i think probably my biggest issue with analog horror and r/nosleep is the fact that like. in analog horror especially there's this sort of unquestioned trust in authorities. like, the horror is always "what if a public service announcement or something was intercepted by a scary guy" or "what if the government is hiding some sort of apocalyptic horror" (the former being more analog horror and the latter being more r/nosleep) and not like... "what if these institutions wanted to hurt us from the start. what if all of these horrifying things were things working exactly as intended". the horror always comes from those in power being unable to deal with threats, never that they ARE the threats, at least from everything i've seen
edit: a lot of the time with r/nosleep these often tend to fall into "weird scary mentally ill person" which is... an entire other can of worms. like "oh i used to work at the government and there's a maximum security prison there full of Crazy Serial Killers". i know nosleep isn't exactly known for being great but you really notice particular trends just by scrolling through it hoping that just maybe there'll be something good.
#from my knowledge of digital horror it kinda avoids this entirely by being more about personal stories#which is also something i vastly prefer over like. ''what if scary monsters showed up and were gonna kill us all''#or ''i saw a big scary smiling man. now he's after me (part 23)''#also yes i have dumpster dived in r/nosleep before. i've come out with like one ''oh i kinda dig that'' thing ever#and i think it was within the past few months. which is also the last time i've done it#most of it is either uninteresting. is in a series with 10+ long ass posts. or both.#sometimes it seems interesting and then it's not#rat chat
