Keyleth fundamentally misunderstands Vax's service to the Raven Queen, which is not to say I blame her at all! The Matron has not bound Vax to pay a debt, there is no "payment". Vax chose to serve the Matron. The circumstances of his death were unexpected and terrible, yes, but the Matron did not steal him. Keyleth (and Vex) still thinks he is paying her back for saving Vex. Vax spent years coming to terms with what serving the Matron would mean and *he chose it* in the blood pool in Vasselheim.
But how can Keyleth come to her own terms with his choice if he keeps sending her ravens? How is she supposed to know what that means?
#okay i've written tons on how vax changed keyleth#but i love seeing meta on how keyleth changed vax!!!#bc yeah while keyleth and percy have the more obvious conflict in terms of what duty and responsibility and legacy means#keyleth and vax have a much more underappreciates different branch of it#cr1#keyleth#vax'ildan

I love that I'm seeing people on Twitter who's response to the "new world" bit of the C4 announcement is "it's UNFAIR that C3 had CROSSOVER elements where the previous groups STOMPED ALL OVER THE CAMPAIGN, and now BELLS HELLS don't get to ruin the next campaign for the new group and its fans!!!"
Truly the most crab bucket fandom of all time, lol. Imagine sincerely mourning not getting to inflict your own frustration on another group of people.
#yeah. it was a mistake to have that much crossover in c3 bc it didn't let the campaign stand on its own or build anything to be proud of#that's why they're not doing that again

...making my own post so im not arguing on someone else's (bc if they're fighting an opinion they're genuinely seeing around fair enough), but in all the people being mad at animated jester for being skinny and then people being mad at those people for wanting her fat in the first place, this is the first time i have ever encountered the idea that people make jester fat bc she likes to eat?
i thought we were all doing that bc a) in making canon art that's somewhat samey more diverse shape language is a great one to go to and jester personality wise is a very round and circles person
and b) because jester is canonically pretty and everyone has a crush on her and she's confident and not afraid to take up space and those are really uplifting things to see on a fat woman
(and im not trying to argue anything re: veth, she's important to me as fat rep too but like. why not both)
but was i alone in that? were people actually doing it bc jester likes pastries?

Some air of doom must have been hanging about the studio when c2e26 aired because they couldn’t have thrown up more death flags if this had been a written show.
- Molly declaring that nothing good would happen and this would be a cursed trip.
- The cute little moment where Molly does a mediocre card trick for that little boy, which is honestly one of his softest gestures as a character.
- Molly generally taking the lead on keeping them moving and making decisions while the other three are kind of squabbling and butting heads about it, which, since he’s the one that goes down, implies that the only members of the M9 left are the most dysfunctional and least likely to pull through this.
- Similarly, Nott obviously asked Keg if she could heal since they didn’t have any anymore, which also underlines how precarious their situation is.
- Molly and Beau going on watch and having one last, poignant conversation after a majority of their relationship was spent butting heads.
Truly wild how perfectly it went down; not tied into anyone’s backstories, not some climax to a grand arc they could feel coming, just that freaky serendipity C2 apparently just had in spades.

imagine ever six months some guy knocks on your door and forcibly inspects your house, leading to a lot of people "often" getting arrested for things like illegal idol worship
#this is why i got so scared for fjord when wildmother be up in here happened#like it was a hilarious line and ultimately the nein were powerful enough for there not to be consequences#but like. you can't just say that here!!!!!

i'm curious about nott's description for the animated show directly pointing out her "painful past," and I wonder to what degree we'll touch on that past because i'm fairly certain we won't get her major backstory reveals this early in the show. which leads me to wonder if instead we may get a version of the fake story she told the party early on, and maybe also see more interaction between nott and the goblin clan that held her hostage, considering early-game nott was so convinced the clan was actively hunting her. it would be a nice way to drum up tension and interest in her storyline without have to drop a big bomb super early, you know?
#i very vividly remember the first time i went through c2#assuming from all the hints nott gave us that yes she was in a relationship with yeza but it had to be a secret bc felderwin hates goblins#so there's definitely a lot they can play with there!

I really enjoy Liam's commitment to the bit of Caleb's money counting quirk, just quietly counting out each one of his 16 gold pieces for incense in the background while Matt talks to the other players and then subtly shorting the shopkeeper by 1 gold.
#i fuckin love when characters do things like this#no matter the medium if someone is doing the suspicious/illegal thing in full view of the audience#but you don't notice because they're really good at social sleight of hand? that shit's like crack to me

I would say that TLOVM Keyleth does seem pretty different from her in-game version - she's lost some of the self-righteous edge that I thought made her quite interesting in the campaign, and the framing of the show makes her seem less like someone who has an opinion that differs from the rest group, and more like the only person in the group who's right about stuff.
But I don't think that really has much to do with the fact that she's more popular amongst certain kinds of viewer in TLOVM. C1 fandom was full of people who were completely unable to separate the characters from the players, and a lot of people just didn't like Marisha as a player (for the usual battalion of sexist cliche reasons) and decided that meant they didn't like Keyleth. When the player isn't in play, those reasons stop mattering, even to the exact same people.
i guess that might be the difference, yeah, because i saw keyleth in c1 as usually the one in the right when it came to situations that involved her, so any framing towards that is just how she came across already?
but i do think you're right re: the people not being able to see marisha play, which going back to my original point means hopefully beau will also be treated better in m9a than she was in c2

is she different? like yeah i haven't rewatched tlovm since s3 came out, but i don't remember keyleth's characterisation ever seeming off the mark for me. her relationship with percy, yeah that one's been ignored which sucks, but keyleth herself reads the same
very excited about the mighty nein series but very terrified that we have to hear men's opinions about beauregard lionett in real time again
#other people are welcome to jump in on this - you can put it in an ask or another post if people don't wanna derail op's post#but im curious what you or anyone else is reading as out of character for keyleth

Reminder to seasoned CR folks
DON’T SPOIL THE BIG THING ABOUT THE MIGHTY NEIN
I’m not going to say it in case someone new sees this post, but if you know, you know. It’s the big thing. The thing everyone cries about early on. That thing? DONT SPOIL IT!!!! We’ve GOTTA let the newbies experience it for themselves (already doing it myself for LoVM since both of my non-cr friends are very confused on why Scanlan isn’t in the teaser for season four, and I’m not telling them a damn thing). We’ve gotta let them suffer as we did, it’ll be really funny, promise me >:)
#i mean look i will absolutely respect this#but the idea it could be spoilers to anyone is kinda hilarious#bc i wasn't even in the cr fandom when it happened i barely knew what cr was#but it rippled all throughout tumblr i felt it even in the other fandoms i was in at the time#the only thing i knew about cr going in was dnd actual play and [event]

It’s a peaceful day at the Soltryce Academy, and you and your polycule are way ahead on your homework assignments…
Look, I know Caleb Widogast origins was dark and traumatic, but I also need lots of shenanigans between these three because I feel we are missing out on a lot of in-between silly things 3 teens can get up to to pass the time.

Got my black markers out again for episode 18 and 19 doodles! God I love this side of the Trial of the Take, they're so fun. It's criminal that Felicia Day couldn't appear in more VM episodes!
I know Travis/Grog (?) jokes about Lyra friendzoning Scanlan, but I never got "attraction" vibes from either of them? I like to think they stayed buds, honestly. And that nat 20 from Travis for Grog to yeet his little buddy across the ice to safety is a (platonic) true love's crit and no one can change my mind 💜
Chemo is kicking my ass but I'm kicking back. Back to resting!
