Strange Supreme x Reader Headcanons

hey! I got more headcanons for ya'll, except this time it's for normal What If...? Stephen Strange! Yeah, for once it's not Yandere!Strange Supreme. I figured I should try to write him as his normal self at least once.

Stephen is definitely protective of you, but knows you can take care of yourself. He hates seeing you hurt, even when minor, so he goes into mother-hen mode whenever you're injured. It's endearing to know he cares, it's just sometimes a bit much. Of course this protectiveness comes from the loss of Christine. He tries to not let her death control him like it once did, but in moments when you're hurt it resurfaces.

Loves to read with you. He loves reading a nice book with either you snuggled up to him or his head in your lap while you read it. He tends to read whatever you suggest, albeit with his snarky comments throughout it. Reading is even better when it's cold outside because then his cloak will wrap around the two of you, Stephen will cast heating spell, and you'll put on some relaxing old music. Everything is just simple and cozy.

If you're shorter than him, he'll absolutely love to tease the hell out of you about it. Whether it be by Stephen just holding something you're about to grab out of reach, or him coming up behind you to wrap his arms around your waist while resting his chin on top of yours, or him picking you up to kiss you, he'll give you a wide, knowing grin. Sometimes he opens portals to make himself shorter just to kiss you from a different angle. Yeah, kneeling works too but where's the fun in that? ;)

Stephen will teach you some magic if you ask him enough. At first he'll flat out reject the idea by saying that it's too dangerous for you to learn. Eventually, he'll warm up to the idea and agree as long as you practiced with him daily. Stephen's teaching methods adapt to best suit you while also being as close to what he learned/what he taught himself.

Even when you fail to perform a spell right, Stephen's there to assure you that it's alright, that it takes practice. He's very supportive once he starts teaching you. Though that doesn't stop him from poking fun at you.

If you're an artist then Stephen would definitely love seeing your work, whether it be poems, stories, drawings, etc. Any kind of art you make, he'd want to see. He'll try joking about some of your work with you, but if he knows something is too personal/important to you he'll refrain from making some quip. He doesn't mean anything hurtful by his remarks, but he knows that hearing them can be damaging to you.

Additionally, if you're an artist and feel insecure about not going into a scientific field, Stephen is quick to shut those thoughts down. He cannot believe that you would ever doubt your accomplishments or even just your career choice when it's so clear you love being an artist. Stephen doesn't care that you're not a surgeon like he was. He just cares about you.

Whether or not you're an artist or a scientist or a doctor like Stephen was, if you ever feel insecure/dumb around him because you can't understand something quite as well as he does, Stephen will question how you could ever feel like that. He assures you that it's okay if you don't understand something because he'll happily explain it to you. Repeatedly, if you want him to. Stephen knows that everyone understands things differently, but that hasn't stopped him from making annoyed remarks towards people. With you, however, Stephen is much more gentle and sympathetic.

Whenever you feel overwhelmed and just want to curl up into a ball, Stephen is there to take care of you. He'll make your favorite foods, play your favorite shows/movies, and hold you tightly while stroking your head. You can take as long as you need, Stephen won't be going anywhere if you feel depressed.
