Laying lifeless is Yellow Kid, a prominent character from the comic strip Hogan’s Alley, from which the name for the neighborhood was influenced and derived. The death of Yellow Kid symbolizes an end to making a novelty out of Hogan’s Alley and the black community that resided there. A rose grows next to Yellow Kid. As the official flower of Vancouver, the rose symbolizes life continuing to bloom as the spirit of the black community, a light of hope streaks through the smoke and ashes of its physical demolition. That's a diet very heavy in fish! Look at all those little fishies hanging! 😧🐟🐟🐟 'The Inside of a House in Nootka Sound' was drawn by John Webber and engraved on copper by W. Sharp. It was included in Captain James Cook's publication where he describes in detail his "Voyage to the Pacific Ocean, undertaken by the Command of His Majesty, for making discoveries in the Northern Hemisphere. Performed under the direction of Captains Cook, Clerke and Gore, in His Majesty's Ships the Resolution and Discovery, in the years 1776, 1777, 1778, 1779 and 1780." It was printed by W. & A. Strahan, for G. Nicol (Bookseller to His Majesty); and for T. Cadell, both of the Strand, London, in 1784. This print measures 10½ x 7⅜ inches. How nice to see everyone gathered at home working together. Though we really can't understand how anyone could stand sitting in a room with that many drying fish!
