I think an underrated angle on 2x05 is something that either Jacob or Assad said in some interview somewhere, which is that in that episode Louis is addicted to heroin. Thats why he has that whole stash of drugs that he gives to Daniel, that's why he gives Daniel the drugs even though he's already got him alone. He didn't just use those 128 boys for sex he was using them to get high. Bring them home, get them to shoot up, and then drain them to get that secondhand high.
It clarifies something that's always confused me about that scene, which is why Armand saves Daniel the first time. He wouldn't save Daniel as a person, he clearly knows Daniel needs to die, but he's not seeing Daniel as a person there. Daniel is just a substance. He rips him away from Louis to stop him from using.
And i think that adds a whole other layer to the fight he and Armand have to think that this is Louis on a bender, with Armand cleaning up after him because he's not stable enough to. Louis in the bed for a week isn't just healing from the burns, he's going through withdrawal. Him at the table with Daniel giving him the "bright young reporter" speech is probably the first time he's been sober in months.
It adds another layer to Armand's desperation, that Louis has been running from both Armand and himself in this way, and of course Armand wants to erase that memory. Of course he wants to pretend that that fight never happened. Not just to protect himself but in a way to protect Louis from having said those things. When he describes the fight to Louis afterwards, he says "you said the worst things you've ever said to me." And he doesn't really know how to forgive Louis for that so he just wants to bury this rock-bottom moment and move on like it never happened. After all, Louis was high, he didn't really mean it, but if he remembers then maybe he might think that he had a point. Better to wipe the whole experience away.

I get why people sometimes like to retcon show!Armand’s parents selling him into slavery but if I’m being honest I think it’s actually pretty important for them to keep that narratively going forward. It was just such a common way for people to become enslaved throughout all of human history. It presents a very difficult reality but one that I think is integral to understanding how these things perpetuate in the first place.
I know people can have this instinct to go “oh well that’s just too sad” and like I get it! There’s an impulse to give Armand some kind of reprieve from his history of suffering. But also. A lot of real life people have histories just like that. A lot of trafficking victims are trafficked by a parent or an older sibling. A lot of victims previously had an unstable or difficult home life that made them vulnerable to trafficking, even if they were never trafficked by a family member.
A lot of real life people have lives that look like that. There’s no secret hidden surprise memories that their parents actually really loved them. Sometimes things were just always kind of bad. Sometimes that’s just how it is. And those people can still go on to heal and have a better life. There is no “too sad.” There’s just the actual diverse range of human experiences and perseverance.
(Also I understand the argument of “but Armand himself doesn’t remember!” but tbh I think it’s evidence of people not really understanding how repressed memories/dissociative amnesia works. If Armand can say out loud, with conviction, that Arun’s parents sold him into slavery, it’s probably because he knows it to be true, down to a gut instinct. Sometimes those bone-deep feelings are all you have when the detailed episodic memories are nonexistent. The vague knowing is also a type of memory.
If Armand thinks that is what happened that is probably what happened. Questioning his recollection when his sense of connection to that history is already so unstable almost feels kind of cruel if you’ve been in those shoes; but I get that’s not people’s intention! People just want a reality where he didn’t have to suffer as much and I feel for that.)

Louis is all that self-righteous violence. Violence to distance from and squander the violence done onto him. Lestat is all that temperamental, in your face violence. Violence as emotional, the uncontrollable rage to possess violence as a tool. Armand is all that discrete and uncertain violence. Violence which hides inside violence to survive it, and also to manipulate it to his advantage.

“The guy with the tattoo is Daniel!” “The guy with the tattoo is an undercover Armand stan!” cmere. the guy with the tattoo is simply someone from staff who after one (1) interaction with Lestat decided Armand was right about him being more toxic than the elephant’s foot.

Anne Rice will really write a whole chapter about an incredibly interesting and compelling character who seems to have ties to a lot of important plot points and characters only to turn around and go: "Hey, you're invested in the character's story now? Fuck you, they are never going to appear in any meaningful way in a single one of the other 10 books I am going to write in this series."

would like more insight into armand and santiago's relationship because i feel like it's pretty much canon that santiago was left with lingering feelings for armand after they fucked once upon a time while armand clearly lost all interest in him right after. which actually makes me understand santiago a bit better because i would also be bitter if i lost maître to some bitch who falls asleep during my plays and possesses such beauty that he has my crush who is also my boss falling to his knees begging for it within seconds of meeting him

i know it's done for serious reasons but it's objectively hilarious that not only three of the biggest city leaders that vetinari establishes all irk each other but also that everyone dislikes william de worde the most. like it's not just having an attitude towards the times, it's william specifically. like moist has his fun sparring relationship with sacharissa, vimes ends up having some sincere moments with otto who is also a vampire, and then they both look at william and go "ugh"
