Some Valhalla comics! Sigyn HCs ( now that I've seen her appearance in the Valhalla comics )
. Unlike in my MCU fics, Sigyn isn't a childhood friend of Thor, Sif and Sigyn in Valhalla comics
. She starts off as a valkyrie and volva before marrying Loki. She still continues her volva Streak even after she and Loki got married
. Sweet, sassy, elegant and brave
. Basically at times works with Loki on his schemes and often helps keep Loki in check
. A number of deities often run to call Sigyn if Loki is behaving TOO dastardly
. Sigyn has a perceptive observation skills and often can sense bullshit from a mile away
. She actually is at first amongst the valkyries that appears in the Odin's Wager book
. Loki and Sigyn eventually got to know one another in a mead hall party and Thor introduces Loki to Sigyn
. In the Valhalla comics, while Sif has golden hair, Nanna has honey brown hair, Sigyn has raven hair
. Likes to at times wear flowers and intricate headdresses on her raven hair
. In rhe Valhalla comics, turns out Loki becomes a blood brother of Odin after Loki first formed an alliance with Thor as a plan to turn against Angrboda ( who dumped him then ) in a scheme
. Becomes a good friend of Nanna and Sif 🤩🤩🤩🥺🥺🥺
. Similarly with Loki, Sigyn is not of Asgard, yet an Aesir - Light Elven from Alfheim. So Loki and Sigyn came to share a similar sense of ' otherness ' in Asgard
. Of fucking course Loki and Sigyn have a villa of their own after they got married
. Sigyn becomes a ' cool aunt ' figure to Thor and Sif's children
. Valhalla comics! Sigyn is born of Alfheimr nobility btw
🤩🤩🤩🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺

Myth!Loki's Hair Color: Common Depictions
Because the AI user that just annoyed me also claimed myth!Loki's canonical hair color is blonde and that's why they did that crappy blonde MCU!Loki AI art, and I am feeling spiteful cus fuck AI and that eyesore, and I need to wash that off my brain.
AND I KNOW this claim came from those people that interact with THAT ONE VERY obnoxious Sigyn stan that pretends to be a Norse mythology expert despite never providing proper citations or citing modern myth re-tellings and whines about children's story books not being accurate. Ask her to cite her claims and actually look at the sources, for the love of Loki!
LOKI HAS NO KNOWN HAIR COLOR IN THE MYTHS! THERE's NO SOURCE FOR THAT! Loki's also a shape-shifter! Loki can have their hair look like whatever the fuck they want. To my knowledge, the only gods that have confirmed hair colors are myth!Thor, who is said to a red-head, and myth!Sif being a blonde who gets a wig of magical gold to substitute her chorn hair. There's also a description of myth!Heimdall who is said to be the "whitest" god, implying blonde/white hair? Loki's only mentioned to be pretty, assumed to be Aesir -sized rather than gigantic, likely smaller than myth!Thor because myth!Thor can kick his ass and he can hold onto Thor's belt when crossing a river (Skáldskaparmál), and have scars on his lips due to them being sown shut.
Also from Gylfanning: "Loki is beautiful and comely to look upon, evil in spirit., very fickle in habit. He surpassed other men in that wisdom which is called 'sleight,' and had artifices for all occasions; he would ever bring the Æsir into great hardships, and then get them out with crafty counsel."
There's also the Snaptun stone, believed to be Loki due to the scarred lips, giving him a mustache.
The most common and widespread hair color depictions of Loki have red/ginger/orangey hair due to Loki mistakenly being thought to associated with fire because their name's too similar to the fire personification Jotun's name, Logi, because Richard Wagner fucked up in his Ring Cycle Operas and combined the two of them into "Loge". Arthur Rackham's illustrations based on Wagner's Ring Cycle are possibly the most influential in that regard because they're fucking awesome. Even GOW made their Loki depiction a red-head.
And here's a painting that looks like a ginger to me by James Doyle Penrose (1912):
The second most common hair color depiction is black hair, probably thanks to Marvel as it's most prevalent in modern depictions (e.g. Alan Cumming's Loki in "Son of the Mask", whom I fucking love).
There's also the Valhalla comics that started in 1979 (after Marvel, but I don't think that contributed AT ALL because Vallhala comics are way more myth-accurate and fucking awesome. I am just including it here because it's a black-haired Loki depiction).
There's also Eric M. Esquivel's Ragnarok n' Roll (have not read and I am not inclined to do so, but it kept showing up in my loki searches 10+ years ago and its existence was archived in my brain due to that). Is it me or does he looks like Cantinflas because of the mustache?
This is Cantinflas btw
There's also Jul I Valhall Loke (Thanks Scandinavian Twitter users for showing me this gem even if I can't understand the language. I am forever grateful.)
youtube
And surprisingly, Marvel was not the first to give him black hair. Marten Eskil Winge portrayed Loki with black hair in his 1863 painting "Loki and Sigyn."
Neil Gaiman has depicted Loki with a variety of hair colors, USUALLY as a literally "fiery" red-head (Sandman comics & American Gods book), whatever Johnathan Tucker's hair color is in the American Gods TV show, and black-haired (Norse Mythology graphic novel).
There's a brown-haired Loki depiction in Assassin's Creed (I have not played it btw).
And sometimes he's just some demonic thing with horns:
#i have a weird belief myth!loki's hair is brown because no one comments on it#myth!loki#norse mythology#valhalla comics#the life and times of juniper lee#neil gaiman#american gods#arthur rackham#richard wagner#son of the mask#alan cummings#marten eskil winge#sandman#assasin's creed#marvel comics#mcu#jul i valhal#james doyle penrose#peter madsen#eric m. esquivel#idw comics#atreus#god of war#LokiInMedia#IStartShit#hot takes#Youtube

I find it interesting that of the Norse gods, only the Vanir are given myths of a detailed courtship and wedding. The Aesir couples that mythology mentions: Odin and Frigg, Thor and Sif, Loki and Sigyn, Bragi and Idunn, Sunna and her barely-seen husband, are all mentioned as married right off the bat. Recorded mythology never describes how they came together, they're just said to be married, and sometimes said to love each other. The only exception is Saxo's Hodr/Nanna, but Saxo liked to mix and match mythological motifs anyway, so the original myth could just be Hodr lusted for Nanna and tried to abduct her, thus eventually leading to Baldr's murder and Vali being born to avenge the kinslaying. (There is a Scandinavian ballad motif that's also present in England called Svend i Rosengard/Sven in the Rose Garden, where one brother slays the other and is forced to confess to his deed after being questioned by the mother. The motive is always something trivial or even cryptic like, "it was for the cutting of a twig that would never be a tree", and the killing itself is sometimes an accident where one brother's knife slips, but sometimes the two brothers are fighting over the same woman.)
The Vanir couples do have detailed marriage stories. Skadi and Njord have a mostly comedic myth about their marriage and separation, and Frey has an elaborate myth about his longing for Gerd. Freyja has no details about her courtship, but there's also the theory that she and Odr are just doublets of Odin and Frigg, so they don't really need a marriage myth.
Conversely, in Greco-Roman mythology, for all their ups and downs and questionable ethics by today's standards, almost every divine couple gets a myth about their marriage. You have couples like Zeus and Hera, but also more minor gods like Vertumnus and Pomona or Cupid and Psyche. Even Cronus and Rhea get a myth where they wrestle another divine couple for control over Olympus.
See, that's a difference I always found kind of funny, too. I like to imagine there might have been some courtship and marriage myths on the Aesir side, too, perhaps even very dramatic ones considering all the implied drama between, say, Odin and Frigg and Thor and Sif, or even Bragi and Idun. But, ofc, even if that was the case, we'd probably never learn about them. Then again, from the Aesir (and numbered-among-the-Aesir ;)) we get two very romantic story elements like Sigyn's bowl of venom and Nanna's all-too-literal heartbreak, so...
Speaking of Nanna, I love that you mentioned the version of Balder's death in Gesta Danorum because 1. I actually adore that version, lol, GD!Hod is such an adorable anxious mess of a guy and they just keep putting him in situations (even Saxo's moralizing narrator won't let him catch a break!), 2. I was reading some Beowulf-related stuff recently and kinda started crack-theorizing that Saxo put Hod's eumerized form and his story where he did just because Danish Kings' Names Start With An H, 3. there's a very interesting work by Anatoly Liberman, Some Controversial Aspects of the Myth of Baldr, that, iirc, does propose a "tragic love triangle with Hod as the bad guy" origin for Balder's death. (... also, 4. if you don't know the Danish comic Valhalla by Peter Madsen, please read it because it's amazing AND the way it combines Saxo and the Eddas in the issue The Ballad of Balder is just *chef's kiss*)
As for the Vanir, leaving aside the eternal Frigg/Freya problem, what always stuck out to me the most is that, while there's a lot of elements ranging from the unusual to the bizarre to the clearly comedic in Skadi's wedding (look, the woman is the one who dons the armor and goes on the bridal quest, while the man waits to be won! But she can only choose him by his feet! Oh, and now she's gone and accidentally picked one guy when she wanted another! And Loki's tied a goat to his...!), Freyr's doesn't, imo, really fare that much better. I mean, sure, it's not unusual for a nobleman to send his servant to court the girl he wants to marry for him, especially when he has good reason to think the girl's family won't exactly welcome him with open arms... but you wouldn't really expect him to go from lounging around sighing and brooding and leaving his family in various states of concerned "????" to immediately losing possesion of his Awesome Magical Sword as soon as he finally resolves to just send his servant to court the girl. Even with all the obvious differences, it honestly reminds me a bit of Gunther, Siegfried, and Brunhild, specifically in the Nibelungenlied. Except I think even there Gunther might have been actually a little more proactive... and the consequences of his choices were a bit more, so to say, direct...
There's also something to say about how the Aesir have, as far as we know, only jotun lovers while the Vanir have jotun wives, I think. Or rather, I know a lot has been said about it. But I got really into those theories years ago, so now everything's a bit tangled up in my head and I'm not quite sure anymore of what I read and what I made up myself, lol.

I have a feeling that a certain set of people have such an unhealthy parasocial relationship with Loki, to the point they can't stand him being married, especially with Sigyn
Sigyn is literally the Norse Goddess of Fidelity and Victory. One can say she may be a Norse counterpart of Nike ( Greek Goddess of Victory )
Actually I experience Sigyn as being kinda like a mix of Nike and Persephone in some lights
Regarding to the Marvel Comics, I'm just glad that after all that, Sigyn doesn't have to come back in the Marvel Comics. I have this theory that she consciously chose not to reincarnated in the ' rebirth of Norse Gods ' in the Marvel Comics ( too much trauma ) and chose to live her life/afterlife in peace in Valhalla
Or she can chose to be reincarnated in another timeline where she can be loved and respected by many ( like in my MCU fics ) cuz that's fine too
I find Sigyn to be an interesting goddess because there is so much of her left to be interpreted. There is barely any mythology about her, which does leave a lot open for creative liberties when it comes to interpretations of her.
Sigyn can go from being a non-violent, sophisticated lady
Or
A loving wife who is stronged willed but enjoys the femmine and softer aspects of life
To a war-torn valkyrie and a victory goddess that stands for peace and loyalty
Or
Rather, a bit more violent type victory goddess who wants to see victory within battle and bloodshed (and may or may not be a little morally ambiguous)
There are so many different ways to portray her!
But one thing stays the same no matter what version of her there is , she will still always love Loki and her family 💛💚
I just wish modern media would stop treating Sigyn as the "abused wife" or the "other woman" when that doesn't speak to her character at all. Rather, those are just poor interpretations of her.
#sigyn#loki#like i get it the sigyn hate discourse is CRAZY#its like hating on persephone or mary magdalene just because they are wives of powerful deities/saints#and ofc they and sigyn dont fit some people's tradwife ideas EVER#Persephone's arc is literally a testament of girlhood to womanhood#mary magdalene's is an epitome of redemption#sigyn's is preserverance and victory over darkness even at high stakes

Danish Loki
To contextualise how Loki is thought of in contemporary Danish culture (as opposed to Anglophone and specifically Danish because I don’t want to speak for Swedes and Norwegians), I’ll go through some Lokis from Scandinvian art, then some popular culture Lokis from Denmark.
Loki in 19th Century Scandinavian Art
Balders død (Baldr’s Death), 1817, C. W. Eckerberg
A sneaky evil boy.
Ægirs gæstebud (Ægir's Feast), 1857, Constantin Hansen
The most pretty boy!Loki I’ve ever seen outside Marvel.
A few years before (1853), Constantin Hansen drew him like this, though.
Loke och Sigyn (Loki and Sigyn), 1863, Mårten Eskil Winge.
Buff Loki. Earliest depiction with black hair I’ve come accross.
1895 illustration, Lorenz Frølich.
Loki looks appropriately annoying here. Least slender Loki I have ever seen. Pretty much how Frølich depicts Loki in all his illustrations.
Now, have a couple Þrymskviða!Lokis where Loki is way more chill about what’s happening than Thor.
1893 illustration, Gunnar Vidar Forssell.
1895 illustration, Lorenz Frølich.
1895 illustration, Lorenz Frølich.
Loki in Popular Media
Valhalla, comic, 1978-2009
A comic based on the Poetic Edda. Hugely influential on the Danish conceptualisation of all the Gods, particularly visually. Apparently inspired by a newspaper comic called De gamle guder (The Old Gods) from 1941-41 but I haven’t been able to find any pictures of how Loki is depicted in that. Probably at least part of why Loki has mostly been depicted with black hair ever since. Unsure what, if anything, the relationship to Marvel!Loki is.
More Þrymskviða!Loki
“Well, what do you say, boys?”
Valhalla, animated movie, 1986
This movie personally forms the basis of my childhood impression of the gods, including Loki. Buddy cop dynamic between quick-tempered Thor and manipulative Loki.
youtube
Jul i Valhal (Christmas/Yule in Valhal), 2005
The other basis of my impression of the gods before I read the Eddas or anything. In the Nordic countries, we have a tradition of shows (usually for kids) that run one episode a day from December 1st to Christmas Eve and have some Christmas-y theme. This was a ridiculously popular one that took it’s inspiration from Norse Mythology (loosely so, but it’s still a lot more accurate than Anglophone depictions tend to be, so...)
Loki is a central figure. The plot starts off when two modern kids discover him chained up in a nearby cave and are eventually manipulated into removing his chains, setting off events that will lead to Ragnarok. By the end of the story, though, Ragnarok is prevented by redeeming Loki.
youtube
This version contains the same inaccuracy as Marvel!Loki in that Loki claims to be Odin’s adoptive son rahter than adoptive brother -- still, this is just Loki talking. We can be generous and just assume he was lying for sympathy. It’s not a big point like in Marvel.
What people who watched it as kids remember best about this Loki, though, is his, uhm... revenge song with fur bikini back-up dancers.
youtube
Valhalla, live action movie, 2019
Live action adaptation of the first arc of the comic book. Personality-wise, the characters are generally less cartoonish versions of their comic book counterparts -- Thor is still quick-tempered and Loki is still manipulative, but Thor’s rages aren’t as over the top and his fatherly side is more emphasised and Loki isn’t as obviously smug and his calming influence on Thor is more emphasised. He’s a somewhat minor character in it, though, mostly there to form a duo with Thor.
First depiction of Loki as a moc!
Also you could literally read Thor, Loki and Sif as a throuple in this movie and nothing would contradict it. They lived together in the comic and animated movie as well, so it’s always been there, but it really struck me with this movie. IIRC they all sleep in the same room. Which is perhaps fitting for the setting regardless, but nevertheless.
Aaaand that’s about it! At least for stuff I’m aware of, lol.

So, one of the (many, many) things I mean when I say I’m a Norse-obsessed nerd who gets way too excited whenever Norse mythology or Vikings are involved or even just mentioned in Disney Duckverse & Mouseverse comics or cartoons is that I love the DT2017 episode The Rumble for Ragnarok! to bits.
Asgard! Valhalla! Male and female dead heroes in Valhalla! Norse-inspired architecture! Impending Ragnarok! Vikings being crazy about wrestling, which is actually kind of weirdly fitting if you consider glima! Vikings having a sense of honor! Vikings hating overly greedy people! Beakley picking “the Shieldmaiden” as her stage name, and her costume having a winged helmet because it’s supposed to be over-the-top and kind of ridiculous and we clearly see nobody else in Valhalla wears anything like that! The person on the writing team who apparently has my same taste in mythical figures and, instead of whipping up Odin and Thor (whom I do love, too, but come on... you can’t always use them!) as usual, went, “Hey, guys, you know what would be cool? If Loki’s kids were loved and appreciated and had lots of admirers and weren’t cast away or tortured or killed!”...
Ahem.
Anyway, right after watching the episode, I already had my own headcanons about Jormungand and Hecka and Fenrir being siblings like in the myths. And about Fenrir really being the Biggest Wolf Ever but also able to transform into the Regular Wolf form we see in the episode and another, unseen Anthropomorphic Wolf form, yet preferring the Regular Wolf one during matches because the crowd loves the whole “good boy” schtick and it’s also useful to trick opponents into underestimating him. And about attitudes towards Ragnarok actually having shifted only fairly recently (for Norse standards) and Jormungand being really a pretty decent guy, just way too addicted to the crowds’ cheers and praise after millenia of being considered a monster and a harbinger of unspeakable doom, making him even more insecure and prone to get in over his head and lose control than Dewey and...
Ahem. So, anyway, some time after watching the episode, just for fun, I tried my hand at making my duck-ified versions of Loki, Angrboda, and Sigyn, to round out the family. Unfortunately I can’t draw, so I used the Ducktales: All Ducked Out game, which means my options in terms of body type, clothing, and everything else where pretty limited. So, basically, I just shrugged and went, “you know what? Since now Ragnarok is seen as a good thing but keeps getting thwarted, Loki has been freed and told to keep himself constantly available just in case the time for him to lead the Jotnar against the gods finally comes, though of course he’s still not welcome in Asgard. Which is fine for him, because he and Sigyn are running around Midgard looking for their sons, who have just been turned into regular, non-talking wolves and cast out in some area well-known for traditional wolf-hunting or something because this is Disney and also an embarrassingly self-indulgent AU. Angrboda helps them on their search, because I hate Sigyn vs Angrboda stuff and because I ship all three of them together, but generally she hangs out in Jotunheim and then she always watches her kids’ matches in Valhalla if she can make it, which means she’s the only one who still keeps to Norse style instead of adapting to Midgard fashions or mixing the two together.”
You know, normal things a normal person thinks about.
Anyway, here they are:
Loki:
He’s meant to be some kind of hawk as a call-back to him borrowing Freyja's and Frigg’s falcon-cloacks on at least two separate occasions... though I’m sure it doesn’t come across that well. I would have liked to go for longer hair, but there weren’t that many styles available and I liked the two different colors thing this one had going on. If you pretend the second color is less pinkish and more reddish, it gives a kind of fiery effect --- and yeah, I know the fire association is actually pretty thin and likely more of a later thing, but it’s a popular thing and personally, I like it.
No, he’s not “Norse Satan.” He’s more like an ambiguously moral trickster who causes as much trouble as he fixes, is responsibile for the gods having a lot of cool stuff, is (equally or almost equally ambiguously moral) Odin’s blood-brother and Thor’s friend but eventually fucks up both relationships, and at one point fucks everything up so very, very, very badly that it starts the chain of events leading to Ragnarok.
Sigyn:
A regular duck, to go with my long-standing headcanon that she’s a bit of a plain Jane but Loki and Angrboda love her because of her wit, passion, and unexpected chaos-loving side. I like to think her necklace was gifted to her by Loki when they were courting, and is the one flashy thing she’s always comfortable wearing no matter the occasion.
No, there is absolutely nothing in the myths about her being forced or tricked into marrying Loki or him abusing her. Sure, she is not happy with some of his actions and their consequences for both of them, but she voluntarily sticks with him and protects him from having acidic venom constantly poured all over him.
Angrboda:
A big, strong, tough jotun woman! I’ve already explained about her sticking to her Norse roots, so I’ll just say that I didn’t have any ideas about what kind of bird I should make her. I actually kinda wanted to make her a dognose or something to emphasize how WEIRD her offspring with Loki is, but... whatever, guess she’s a duck, lol.
No, she is never named as Loki’s first or second wife, and she’s never connected to Sigyn in any text so there’s nothing about the two being rivals or hating each other. So I’m completely free to imagine she’s both Loki’s and Sigyn’s girlfriend. :)

Valhalla series!Sigyn
So in Valhalla series ( ie the wonderful Danish comic adaptation series of Norse Myths ), Sigyn is a volva who came from a seidr tribe in Asgard. Her father is an Aesir, her mother a Light Fae. And she was at first part of the Aesir Seidr order and a handmaid of Frigg....and then she caught the eye of Loki and the rest of history
Valhalla!Sigyn gives me vibes of Luna Lovegood and Helga from Vikings in spades - she got big sea green eyes, tanned skin, freckled cheeks and thick curly dark blonde hair

Please, share the chaos.
you guys asked for it don’t blame me
Remember the upcoming Loki issue of Jim Henson’s The Storyteller; get hyped again.
Think about the wedding crashing and where it fits into my personal ordering of the Norse myths, imagine domestic Loki and Sigyn things
Think about Loki’s various relationships through the myths (Angyrboda, Svadilfari, Sigyn), “pretty sure Loki’s genderfluid”
“Also feel like Loki’s allo/aro,” think about headcanon that Loki and Freya are friends with benefits
Get sad about how it all ends, think about the whole ‘self-fulfilling prophecy’ aspect again
Think about Heroes and Loki’s involvement, get upset Book 3 again
Book 3 was where Gustav showed his face for the first time, get mad about that, too
“These kids deserve better,” a sentiment echoed through practically every FE game
Think about Chrom and Robin’s terrible fathers especially, want to punch them
Think about Chrobin instead, chill out
Domestic Chrobin...nice
Think about Chrobin modern AUs and all of the fluffy domestic stuff that goes with that
Think about Cardcaptor Lissa again and how they’re boyfriends
Cardcaptor Lissa includes Grima and Tiki bffs, which is something they both deserve
Grima and Tiki were also bffs in the whole conceptual planning for A House Divided, “wow I haven’t thought about that in forever I miss it”
Do I really want Grima to die and reincarnate or can I get away with him surviving and just being massively weakened?
Think about the Grima manakete design again, get happy
“I should draw”
Remember I wanted to do Day of Devotion Sharena alt (and possibly comic?)
Also remember the half-dozen things I have been planning to draw before that
Also also remember that idea I had about doodling for a HeartGold run I want to start
Haven’t planned team yet, need to do that, “I wanna Larvitar”
But I’m already playing AC: Valhalla with a friend
The control scheme is kicking my ass though I either need to figure out how to change up the controls or dial back the difficulty from normal to easy
I had this problem in Origins too which may be part of why I still haven’t finished it, I should go do that too at some point
Origins had great vibes for working on the Assassin’s Creed/Fire Emblem: Awakening crossover too because desert
Think about different ways to do crossovers and how a lot of times it’s either fitting characters and world from one thing into the narrative of the other, or adapting the narrative elements from one thing to the characters and world of the other
AC: Awakening is very much the latter, with the overarching concept of the Assassin/Templar conflict to suit the Awakening setting and characters
So are Cursed Fate and the Promare AU huh I really like that particular style of crossover
Promare reminds me that Life Goes On is gonna be such a monster haha
Think about Anankos‘ stuff again, get happy
Think about their Professor Sothis AU, get excited
Think about pre-timeskip fix-it and dragon!Byleth who is there almost entirely because Bany would like that
Think about dragon stuff, remember the comic I tried reading yesterday that advertised dragons and did not deliver, get disappointed
There are other comics that will be updating tonight, look forward to that instead
Have I checked the other comics I follow lately?
Get distracted temporarily doing that, yay for ✨focus✨
Focus lasts all of 5 minutes, now what the fuck do I do
#answered#alerawolf#look you guys asked#it's basically this#just cascading from one tangentially related topic to another#my brain has been all over since last night#please shut up and let me sleep brain

Can you recommend me Loki books? (as in novels, not norse mythology textbooks)
I am not sure if I rated these correctly in terms of audience maturity. But I tried lol.
Comics:
Valhalla comics-Peter Madsen
Fun slap-stick re-tellings of the Norse myths. Children oriented?
Loki (2004) aka "Blood Brothers" by Robert Rodi & Esad Ribic
It's my favorite Marvel!Loki comic of all time. It altered my brain chemistry. You can read it for free on the links in my pinned post.
The graphic novel version of Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman.
There's also this webcomic I found as a teen that's ongoing to this day and I need to go back to following:
Kids:
Loki: A Bad God's Guide to Being Good by Louie Stowell
Diary of a Wimpy Kid but with Norse mythology! What's not to love about that?!
Eight Days of Luke-Dianna Wynne Jones
The book that inspired "American Gods."
Odd and the Frost Giants-Neil Gaiman
A boy named Odd encounters Odin, Thor, and Loki who have been turned into animals.
Teens:
Runemarks duology-Joanne Harris
Just keep to the first two books. You'll hate the rest. Let's just say it dealt horribly with Eating Disorders and Harris should have done research on heavy topics before writing about them. Her Loki in the first two books is very enjoyable and he rules over goblins for a while, among other things. I also thought the way rune birthmarks worked in here was fun.
Norse Mythology-Neil Gaiman
It's an entertaining overview of the myths. If you're unfamiliar with them it's a good place to start.
Adult:
Black Wolf: The Binding of Loki-Una Verdandi
I don't recommend if you want a soft!Loki or one that remains a decent person. Loki is interesting and feels like a force of nature. But let's just say he's like the Joker with all that implies. But I thought it was a worthwhile read (very long). It has probably the best Sigyn depiction I've encountered. She feels like a real person! I go more in detail here. I'd pay attention to the things I warn about in case they're deal-breakers or triggers. My review is not spoiler free but contains warnings.
American Gods-Neil Gaiman
Has very interesting premise and a multiple pantheons existing at the same time. It's fun how the deities adapt to the USA and modern times.
The Goddess of Nothing at All-Cat Rector
This book is basically a Norse myth whump fic. I would avoid if that's not your thing because I can see how someone else might hate it. I know I like it because making fictional characters suffer is my guilty pleasure. You won't be laughing at the mythology-based Loki memes. I don't think it's perfect. For example, I dislike that they have to make Loki's every action "justified", such as cutting Sif's hair because Sif called him fantasy racism slurs. Let him be a bit of an asshole just because. The disproportionate punishment makes it difficult not to sympathize with Loki either way. I don't know how I feel about her Sygin. It's the 2nd best Sygin I've seen yet in books. She has a personality, is likeable, and is not a doormat, but something about her and this Loki feels sanitized to me. Like the author was checking boxes for Sygin and Loki. I don't know how to explain it.
Father of Monsters-A. B. Frost
Short read. Loki is a loveable little shit that gets the Aesir into trouble and takes one for the team to get them out of it. I really liked this characterization and it had cute illustrations of Loki, Angrboda, and Jormungandr.
The Nine Worlds Rising Series-Lyra Wolf
They're not perfect. I think her Loki is very funny and likable but too sanitized. And Sigyn has no flaws other than caring too much for her no-good brother while the other goddesses are evil witches. But the author has a very comedic writing voice that is highly enjoyable and keeps the stakes high so that you want to keep on reading. I also like how one of the books starts with a very vengeful Loki and draws comparisons to Lucifer. Thought that was cool. Also, some reactions to some reveals didn't land the impact as well as they should. They do tease the Odin/Loki abusive relationship, but not with the toxicity I wanted, and Odin goes on a redemption path a bit too soon for my liking (while making all the goddesses evil witches...). There's also a lot of anachronistic language in here, such as Loki mentioning a Chihuahua.
Books I haven't read but I know of their existence:
Loki-Melvin Burgess (I saw a Sigyn stan complain about it, but I am not sure how seriously to take her complaints because she said shipping myth!Loki with say Balder or Thor or Odin was "incestuous" because Loki is Odin's "blood brother" despite Loki being unrelated to everyone but Narfi and Nari on Asgard). My standards for Loki don't require that Loki be a paragon of morality, unlike hers. UPDATE: A mutual told me it's horribly transphobic and has rape apologia.
Harbinger of the End-Nicki Chapelway (I've seen praise from Logyn shippers for this one)
Loki: Nine Naughty Tales of the Trickster by Mike Vasich
I saw an excerpt with a rather humorous joke, but the one other Mike Vasich Loki book I read bored the hell out of me. So I haven't given it a chance for that reason.
The Blackwell Pages by Kelley Armstrong and Melissa Marr
It's a children's book series where the descendants of Thor and Loki are the protagonists.
I might have some revies in "LokiBookClub" tag.

Dear Yuletide writer,
I’m 100indecisions on AO3. just based on numbers of requests/offers in the signup summary, it seems fairly likely that you matched with me on Avengers Academy, but it’s also slightly possible it was Silent Hill 3 or The Bifrost Incident. numbers also indicate nobody else requested or offered my other two fandoms, but I’m including them here anyway in case you or anyone else wants to take a stab at them. (there’s also this post if you want a little more info about why these fandoms are cool and where to find them.)
regardless! the important thing as always is that you have fun writing the fic, and for the most part everything that follows is just a suggestion. whatever you come up with, I’m sure I’ll love it.
I feel like…most of the fandoms I requested aren’t too likely to lead to fics with my major DNWs, probably. I wouldn’t want to see dubcon or significant manipulation in a relationship that’s supposed to be positive and healthy, for instance. I’m not opposed to explicit sex scenes of any kind, although I often end up skimming them because I’m the type of ace person who is just Not Interested in most of the physical aspects, so…you’re welcome to write sex scenes if it’s relevant but you absolutely don’t have to feel like you need to.
in general, my biggest DNW is unhappy endings. I’m thrilled to see my favorite characters go through all kinds of hell to get there, so for most of these I would be very happy to get something tagged Crueltide, but I also like things to be okay or at least hopeful by the end. if canon is the unhappy part in one way or another, I’m always happy to read fix-it fics. Between post-canon fix-its that could reasonably happen in the future and canon-divergence AUs where things are okay now because of some mid-canon change, I have a slight preference for the former, but both are good.
as for stuff I like, well, the other thing implied by my main DNW is that I do often enjoy fairly dark fics, as long as they end okay. I also like Loki a lot, as you can probably guess from my requests. if you ended up matching me on Avengers Academy Loki or Bifrost Incident Loki, and/or you want to take a stab at one of the other Loki-centric requests, the Loki fics I’ve actually written are pretty representative of stuff I like in my Loki fics, which basically boils down to “sympathetic interpretations always, with loads of angst and/or whump on the way to a reasonably happy ending”. I tend to take a somewhat lighter tone in general with my Avengers Academy fics (I’ve written several of those and only one of them doesn’t involve Loki at all, so…yeah I have a one-track mind where Loki is concerned), although I did also write a pretty damn whumpy fic for AvAc Loki. I’m very invested in the relationship between Thor and Loki as brothers, although Thorki is usually a personal squick. for things that aren’t necessarily Loki-related, I like found families and deep friendships, sibling bonds, stories about characters reclaiming their own agency from some outside force and/or figuring out how to take control of their own narratives, and probably plenty of other things that aren’t coming to mind at the moment. I’m equally good with plotty fics and little slice-of-life or introspective pieces. I will always always always be happy to see queer characters, especially asexual ones.
more detail about my specific requests, basically just expanded versions of what I wrote in my sign-up:
Silent Hill 3 (Heather Mason). I love this game and that’s mostly because of Heather–she’s resourceful, brave, and incredibly tough, and the game is essentially all about her reclaiming her agency (in a very literal, physical way) from people who used her for their own ends. Anything that gets into Heather’s head would be great, whether it’s a missing scene of some kind during the game or something afterward that explores what she does next, how she recovers from a frankly massive amount of trauma, and how she reconciles the various layers of her identity. The ways in which Heather, Cheryl the child, and Alessa both are and are not the same person are endlessly fascinating to me, and it seems like she probably has a lot of weird memories bouncing around in her head at this point--and possibly some extra trauma from Alessa’s memories of things Heather never physically experienced, as if she doesn’t have enough to deal with already. I would also really love to see something involving Angela and/or Maria from Silent Hill 2; I’m not sure how the timelines would line up (although realistically, considering the setting, that part would be trivial to handwave) but the way Heather basically said “fuck you, you don’t own me” to the cult makes me want to see other female characters find their own agency as well, and it would be really awesome if Heather found a way to help them do that, either by helping them directly or just by influencing the way the town operates. in general, I love these games for their atmosphere and symbolism, so anything you can do along those lines would be great.
Avengers Academy (Loki, Thor). I still miss this game. I especially miss Loki, who was a snarky little bastard but really not a bad dude. Mostly I’d be thrilled to see anything that focuses on him (or her, I super loved Loki’s canonical genderfluidity) developing actual friendships at the academy, with any characters who might be relevant (Steve, Natasha, America Chavez, Nebula, Union Jack, Angela, Jane Thor, really anybody). Working things out with Thor and/or the rest of his family is always good too; Loki’s Frost Giant storyline didn’t involve Thor at all, for instance, probably because it was written long before Thor was added to the game, so I’d be interested to see how things went when he found out his brother was a Frost Giant. I’m also always happy to see crossovers of some kind with other Marvel universes, especially considering AvAc was an interesting patchwork of film and comics canon; meta stuff where characters are aware of their multiverse counterparts is always fun (again, my own AvAc fics are pretty representative of what I like…and if you wanted to build off anything in those, I’d be thrilled). and hey, if you want to pick up or expand on any of the plot threads the game never really got around to, like more about the Academy’s supposed mole, the actual nature and origin of the timefog, or other worldbuilding-related stuff, that would be awesome. random slice-of-life stuff is also fun; so is expanding on any of the event plotlines or digging into in-world reasons for various gameplay decisions (way back during the Civil War event, for instance, Loki was one of the characters who could do stuff to earn points for Team Cap even though this didn’t come up in dialogue--it was almost certainly because they needed another non-event character to round out the rosters, but it would also make a fun premise for a fic). I’d also be happy to see something post-canon, showing what characters are up to now or doing some kind of reunion. I’m realizing somewhat belatedly that last year I only requested Loki because that’s the character I wanted most, and this year I requested both Loki and Thor even though my actual wishes haven’t changed, which...I’m not sure if that’s a potential matching problem or not. But just to be clear, the only character I require is Loki, and everything else is basically a suggestion. If there’s a character I haven’t listed but Loki had an interesting interaction with them, or they never spoke but you think they’d play off each other in fun ways, go for it.
The Bifrost Incident - The Mechanisms (Loki, Thor, Sigyn). I...need a fix-it. Like, for these characters specifically, but also for the universe in general, because the premise of this album is absolutely fascinating but I can't deal with tragedy, so--I need somebody to fix it. Somehow. I mean, I would also be very interested in pretty much anything about Loki and Sigyn, backstory or otherwise (especially if there’s Loki whump due to cosmic horror in general or Odin being a dick specifically, because...I am who I am), or Loki’s relationship with Thor, or...yeah, pretty much anything Loki-centric? But also I am a baby who cannot deal with tragedy so I gotta have like...at least a hint that things are going to end up differently than in canon. Or if you really don’t want to do that, speculate on this universe’s version of Valhalla or something, I don’t know. And yes, even though this isn’t a Marvel universe, I would also be very happy with some type of crossover/fusion with the MCU or another Marvel universe.
Loki: Where Mischief Lies - Mackenzi Lee (Loki). I had a lot of issues with this book and I’m not sure how much of that is just me not appreciating what the author was doing with an unreliable narrator (in part because I’m already pretty attached to certain interpretations of Loki) and how much is the author not quite doing it right, but I’d love to see something that would…make it make sense internally in terms of Loki’s motivations and actions. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a fix-it, although I’d love one of those too, with Loki reuniting with Theo and/or actually reconciling with his family. A giant crossover that includes this Loki with other major versions of Loki could be fun too. I’ve been planning for a while to write up some kind of actual review to articulate what about this book didn’t work for me, and I’ll update this post with a link when I do that, although…again, I know nobody else offered or requested this one. (if you think it sounds fun or you just want to read this book in general, my library actually has the ebook on Hoopla, so it’s worth checking to see if your library does too.)
What If... Thor Was Raised by the Frost Giants? (Loki, Thor). This is such a great little AU and I need MORE. Slice-of-life stuff with Thor and Loki growing up (and Laufey being an abusive bastard to Loki)? Fix-it where Freyja survives or somehow gets brought back? Post-canon fic picking up immediately after the end of the comic? Far-future speculation about what the present-day Marvel universe might look like with this change in its history? Literally anything post-canon about Thor and Loki tentatively reconciling? YES PLEASE. As always, biggest DNW is unhappy endings.

There I´ll find what you´ve become
You help me lose my mind And you bring me something I can't define Help me lose my mind, make me wonder What I felt before
Authors Note: If your a Loki RP Account you can use this as a starter, this is somehow my beginning of Sigyns Story with a backflash how they meet the first time an is only my headcanon, not based on the comics or the movies. The Time is when Loki is in Prison in Thor2. Please excuse mistakes, english is not my first language. The Song for the mood is Help me lose my mind from Disclosure.
Sigyn follows the steps down to the prisons. Her posture was determined not like the people that follwed her. They were convinced that she was making a mistake. It was her handmaiden Yrsa and her personal guard Theoric which she grew up with. She brought them with her from Vanaheim, because they were very loyal friends to her and that was was she needed. They tried to stop her from going to the prisons, but Sigyn was a stubborn person.
Maybe it was not a good idea to see her future husband, not after everything she heard of him. How much he changed since she saw him the last time. But there were too much oprn questions in her head. They began when her father told her that he was going to Asgard and enforce the debt, which was spoken thousand years ago. As if he cared for her place in Valhalla. What reason should be strong enough to let her get married to a criminal? Of course ot was on political purposes. Or he just wanted to get rid of her.
Sigyn didnt believed anymore that the day would come that she would marry Loki Odinson. How much she dreamed of this day as she was younger. More naive. She just was a kid and she thought she met the prince of her dreams, but he left her. He stopped writing letters. Then she heard things which didnt fit to the boy she knew.
Sigyn remembered everything as it was yesterday but in a really different world. She was a different person, he was someone else.
Funny, how all tragedies began was Prince Loki Odinson a prisoner in a cell of the palast of her Father, King Freyr of vanaheim and she heard of him, as she was ready to go the bed. She sneaked out in her nightdress to meet him and from the first moment she was hooked on him. She was young, a rose that began to glow but no one saw the woman she would be but Loki saw it from the beginning. She was never treated like this before and they spoke about magic and books. Sigyn was sure that maybe he started the fire in the village, but never meant to hurt anyone.
She was that sure, that she stand up for him as her father wanted to sentence him to death. Her family laughed at her, but she stayed stubborn, as she was. It was then, that her brother asked her if she was so sure then she should prove it and promise Loki that she would marry him when she comes to age.
There is something special about the promises of Vanir, they never break them. And there was a special promise for Vanir woman to bound them to a man forever. Sigyn spoke the words that bounded her to Loki Odinson and he accepted- not as he had a choice.
The two days the shared two kisses, in secret, two young kids in Love and he gifted a ring to her, but they happiness didn´t last long. They seperated but promised to keep writing letters everyday. Until 600 years later, it stopped.
Sigyn remembered that boy, he was gentle and soft, with some of pride that suited him well. He gave her all the attention she needed to feel loved but this picture didn´t fit to the things she heard of the man he became. She needed clearance, she needed to see him and make her self sure, who she is gonna to marry. If he´ll remember her? As the tradition wanted, Sigyn was wearing a veil that was so heavy embroiderd, that you can heartly see her face. She wore a blue dress, which was out of heavy fabric and touched the floor as she walked. Over it she wore a golden west which hat a small train. Under it she wore high shoes which made her twenty centimeters higher than she really was, all of her outfit was Vanir fashion, not like the soft dresses that the Aesir woman wrapped around their Body.
Every step she took deeper felt colder. Was it really a good idea? What kind of man she was going to find? She loved Loki with all her naive heart as she was younger, he was perfect for her even she saw his mischievous glances in his eyes of course but she was to good hearted to see the whole picture. There was fear in her, she knew she was not going to find the person he used to was but was he really that monster everyone told her? And how she should manage to be his wife? She wouldnt be a silence wife, she wouldnt let him hurt her but she searched for trust and understanding in a relationship. And when he was what everyone was saying she had to make a plan.
The prisons in Asgard were not looking like she imagined a prison, it was very light and a lot of glass. Just the prisoners behind the glasses told her different. She told her guard and her handmaid to stay where they´re standing, as she spotted the right cell. Theoric tried to protest, and she gave him a strong look. She couldnt see her face, but he knew her to well to know to stay were he was.
Every step she took towards his cell felt like an eternity. She felt the vibrations in her fingertips and stretched her fingers. No one should see how nervous she was. She was a princess, she was from royal blood, she was proud and she was strong. She fixed her eyes on the shape of the figure in the cell. The blonde Vanir could just see his back but she knew immeditialy that it was him. With a feeling of unconsciousness she realized she would have recognized him everywhere, anytime. The way of his posture, the outlines of his body, the way he walked, the way he wears his hair was unreconisable Loki and caused a feeling in her she wouldnt expected. An Echo from what she felt for him as they met the last time. The fear, to miss him too much her heart would break, being attracted to him and the way he touched her not only physical- but also with his words. She couldn´t believe he would forget her- not when just the shadow of him could push her so far back in time.
No- this was just her weak mind, she was wiser know, she was the ruler of her emotions. The princess felt her heart beating so strong, that she could feel it in her neck.
“If this is not the happiest man in the nine realms” came a dry voice from her. It was something he had wrote her, but would he remember? She couldnt silence her sarkasm, it could help her in such a situation to keep her sanity. She stepped on the small step, that surrounded his cell but dared to step to near to the glass.
“Its somehow romantic, the prison thing. I think we should keep the idea for our wedding anniversary”

Drawings of Valhalla 1986! Sif ( left ) and Sigyn ( right ) 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Valhalla 1986! Sif with long golden hair and Hazel eyes and looks kinda like Galadriel and Odette from Swan Princess in some ways
And then Valhalla 1986! Sigyn with ginger curly hair and turquoise eyes and looks kinda like Lily Cole and Penelope Featherington in some ways 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Drawings of Zaia ( aka Justice Friends! Sif ) ( left ) and Sigrid ( aka Justice Friends! Sigyn ) ( right )
I drew Zaia with several inspos from Comics! Sif and Wonder Woman appearance wise. Also also Zaia is actually the leader of a sick cool Viking girl band rock ( think the Vampire Band in a Scooby-Doo movie ) in that Asgard music festival and SINGS HER HEART OUTTTTTT
I drew Sigrid with several inspos of Comics! Sigyn, how I imagined Myth! Sigyn to look like and Billie Burke's Glinda, and and she defo does a beautiful firework dance with some other Light Elves in that event AAAAAAAHHH 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
