I was really hoping that my viral load count would’ve come back in time for my doctors appointment this morning, but the results weren’t in from the lab yet. The anxiety about that has been really cranked up kind of high the past several days.
I’m struggling with anxiety surrounding this. The not knowing is making it hard to function. I really hate my brain sometimes.

Had my post operation follow up this morning. I received the anatomical pathology for my appendix- acute appendicitis with serositis (read: angry little bastard tried to kill me for no reason at all, well, because he was slightly irritated). Doctor gave me a clean bill of health and offered the same counsel as the discharge nurses gave when I came home from the surgery: “don’t die”- which is VA code for, well, please don’t die. The stitches will dissolve within 120 days(ish). I’m alive folks! - #doctorsvisit #postop #followup #anatomicpathology #stitches #120days #cleanbillofhealth #imalive #naptime #vahealthcare #veteransaffairs #veteranlife (at VA Salt Lake City Health Care System)

Link in Bio Hey folks. My Dad had a serious heart attack a couple of weeks ago. He is currently in the hospital and looking at some pretty serious procedures to fix his issues. I wouldn't have known about this if I didn't call him. He was terrified (and still is) of unsightly costs that insurance won't cover. He waited over two weeks to get help because he was afraid he would be denied coverage and care. He served his country and laid his life on the line. He deserves better. ALL VETS deserve better. He is going to kick my ass and yell at me when he finds out I made this, but the man needs help. Our country needs to do better by him and all our veterans. Right now though, Dad needs some security that he can maintain his autonomy. Please donate any amount you can, share this fundraiser and write your congress representatives. NO VET should EVER be afraid to seek healthcare because of the exorbitant costs or fear of being denied care. #Army #armyvet #Dad #GoFundMe #heartattack #VAhealthcare #VA #Medicare #seniorcitizen https://www.instagram.com/p/COMPxOcMl0N/?igshid=1gs2jiyil0fgd

So after a month of back and forth with my local VA Hospital, I finally get a #CPapMachine for my #ObstructiveSleepApnea (BTW the #VAHealthcare System in New Jersey needs a LOT of improvement. There's no reason why I had wait so long for such a medically necessary device.) So yeah, after much struggle, I finally get a #DreamMapper device in my hands. It's nice and sleek & barely makes any noise. I also liked that it comes with a nice travel bag! Which is great since this device is now part of my life and its highly recommended to use it every night. The condition on its own can lead to severe health conditions. Sleep apnea can cause hypertension, heart conditions and mental health issues like depression. Sleep apnea disrupts circadian rhythms, imbalances body and brain chemistry, interrupts cardiac and respiratory function, elevated blood pressure, and speeds up the heart’s rate. When allowed to continue, untreated, it absolutely will lead to higher mortality for those who don’t treat it. Supreme Court Justice #AntoninScalia actors #CarrieFisher #JamesGandolfini #JohnCandy musician #JerryGarcia drag legend #Divine NFL player #ReggieWhite all died from sleep apnea. Last night was the 1st night I used the CPap machine and after some time setting up and figuring out what goes where, I had some of the best sleep of my life! I woke up so refresh, recharged, and ready to take on the world. No more waking up with pounding headaches, exhausted, tired, and irritable. No waking up with heartburn. Didn't wake up having to cough and hack up loads of #PostNasalDrip phlegm and mucus built up overnight. I didn't need to rush to the bathroom as my bladder didn't feel like it was going to explode like it does every morning. Yeah, the CPap mask looks and feels like I got attacked by a #FaceEater from those Alien movies but that feeling goes away after a while. I never been so excited to go to sleep. Looking forward to getting 8 hrs of sleep tonight and better health in the future! #StoryOfMyLife (at New Jersey)

Day #133: The truth of VA healthcare
Day #133: The truth of VA healthcare #military #VAhealthcare --
I’m a disabled Marine veteran. From a TBI to my mental health, I’ve got some serious issues. Furthermore, with the rate of suicide among veterans ever increasing it may be odd to an outsider why this is happening. After all, the government provides us with free healthcare, why are so many of us dying, why are so many of us killing ourselves? The answer is sadly straightforward, although grim, so…

Cultural diversity in the VA healthcare system
This weeks tumblr post started with a group proposal. We walked through this as a group helping each other.
1. Group Proposal:
A. Topic: This documentary is about the cultural diversity in the VA health care system, in more specific details this video will elaborate on the medications prescribed to VA patients, the nurse’s cultural competence, and the health insurances that are provided to patients in the VA system based on their disability percentages.
B. Purpose: The group’s stance on the VA healthcare system is similar to the beliefs of the veterans who seek medical attention from the VA. Most patients will elaborate on the diversity of the VA system and through this documentary my group hopes to expand on these issues that most patients face when dealing with the VA. The purpose of this documentary is to also present a suggested solution that could advocate for the situations occurring at the VA healthcare system.
C. Audience: Through this documentary my group is focused on persuading the American people (civilians) that they should be focusing on the way the VA healthcare treats our veterans since our veterans are the ones who have fought for our freedom, its only right that we ensure that these veterans are getting the proper medical attention that they need and deserve. By shedding light on the daily struggle that most veterans encounter when dealing with the VA healthcare system, we as a nation can help to come up with a solution so that we may help improve the VA system and get our veterans efficient and effective medical attention.
D. Solution: The solutions for improving the VA healthcare system is to get a better pharmaceutical method for prescribing medication to patients, instead of the doctor exploring other medical options for pain management, they more than often than not, tend to prescribe highly addictive narcotics. The next solution deals with the nurses competence, with the patients at the VA making appointments is no problem but most veterans have a prolonged waiting time to see the doctors. By getting more nurse students interested in working for the VA we can get more doctors and nurses to help out with the lack of staff at the VA and thus improve the waiting period and get veterans faster medical attention. Lastly the benefits that most patients are given are based on their disability percentages, but even then the benefits are paraphrased to seem like they are getting enough medical attention are, in reality the benefits that only cover the bare minimum. By improving the benefits that each patient receives will help most veterans get faster medical attention. A good example is allowing veterans to seek medical care outside of the VA system without having any financial burdens.
2. Advocacy & Ethos
Advocacy
Many veterans have to wait a long time to get help from a doctor. This needs to be fixed by getting an appropriate amount of nurses to be of help. Many organizations will need to get together and start different interventions to help spread awareness for a better VA healthcare service.
Ethos
Stephen Spotswood states in an article that nurses went years without being assessed for their proficiency on equipment, and, when they failed to demonstrate competency, VA hospitals took no action.
An investigation stated that “gaps in VA’s nurse-competency practices might be putting patients at risk.”
- VA’s Office of the Inspector General

I hate admitting this, because every time I explain it, someone makes a joke (and I'm tired of hearing it), but I have a vitamin D deficiency. I already knew this, but it was double confirmed when I went to the doctor last week. Learning about this and doing some research has helped clarify some things as far as my other diagnoses. I highly recommend going to your doctor and getting a routine check up or even just getting that thing checked out that's been bothering you for a while. It's definitely better to be safe than sorry or, in my case, to have answers rather than not. But, hey! I finally got some vitamin D in the mail! These prescriptions in the mail business is kind of nice 😁 (ALSO wtf is this shit about taking it once a week?!) #veteran #vahealthcare #veteranasfuck #vahcmo #GotThatD
