I love Seven of Nine and I'm mostly pretty happy with how she was treated in Picard (its honestly better than how she was treated for much of Voyager), but I don't like the way they made her captain. I honestly think Liam Shaw was one of the best parts of the season and was a great contrast to a lot of the previous captain characters we've seen, and the fact that they killed him off so Seven could become captain felt really obvious and boring- even the way they did it felt super cheap and cliche (like I called the "he calls her Seven while dying and making her captain" beat EXACTLY several episodes before it happened). I would have loved to have seen him live AND her get promoted to Captain of a ship. I feel like both things could have happened, and instead they wasted a super interesting new character for the sake of a really trite plot beat. Also thought renaming the Titan the Enterprise at the end was kind of lame. We don't need that. Let it be its own ship.

Oops, looks like Starfleet has used up all 8 ship names it has. It has this brand new ship and no name to give it. Help Starfleet name its new ship!

How the Lower Decks finale should end for Bradward Boimler:
With all of the lower deck four each making Lieutenant Commander, Brad is ecstatic, as he's received orders back to the USS Titan.
Excited to be working with the Rikers again, stepping off the shuttle, he rushes to the captain's ready room to report to his former/new again CO.
Chiming to enter, he hears an unfamiliar growl, “...come...”.
The door slides open...
It's Captain Liam Shaw, eating a blue steak dinner...

Star Trek Strange New Worlds: This inoperable deuterium refinery has been beset by problems including an inability to stabilize life support, EPS regulators, or even the lighting grid.

I have so many critiques of the writing in Star Trek: Picard's third season that I don't think that I've actually expressed how incredibly ugly (and just what a stupid concept) I find the Constitution-III class to be

And it's just such a complete vandalization of the original Luna-class Titan (of which it is, allegedly, a refit), which was a fan design, and was actually quite beautiful:
And my god, the ship doesn't even get to keep its *name*. It gets retitled the Enterprise-G because M'talas seems honestly to believe that the highest honour possible is to be pulped down and remoulded as a copy of something that he grew up with.

Say what you will about the rest of the season (and I have) but s03e03 of Star Trek Picard might be one of the worst episodes in a vacuous season. That whole segment with Vadic/the Shrike and their portal. The portal itself isn't the problem -- that's all well and good. But the response from Picard et al on the Titan! You have got to be forking kidding me! These are highly experienced, savvy, intelligent Starfleet officers with track records of ingenuity and tactical acumen, and they don't stop to think "If we fire, obviously the Shrike will use the portal to turn it back onto us?" Give me a break! It was just so deeply idiotic, something most people could have seen coming before even recommending it: you can't convince me most Starfleet cadets wouldn't have realised it pretty immediately. I honestly just felt the bottom fall out of the show in that moment. It had been tenuous already, but that level of utter moronic ineptitude was such garbage and a horrible entry to Star Trek canon broadly and Picard, Riker & co's specifically. There's a great deal I hate about that season (particularly after really enjoying season 1 -- it at least had something to say) but this moment stands stark as when it truly jumped the shark.
