As a US northerner I love using ‘howdy’ in southern states that do not use the word ‘howdy’
I get a couple double takes and a “what did you just say?” And I find it hilarious every time

More than half the workers at the sprawling Volkswagen auto assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tenn., have signed cards signaling that they want to be represented by the United Auto Workers union. And they did so in less than 60 days, revealing a level of enthusiasm that suggests one of the largest nonunion auto plants in the Southeastern United States could produce a major breakthrough in the UAW’s effort to organize workers in parts of the country that have been dominated by anti-union forces for generations.

I'm so tired of this heat.
I'm tired of people denying climate change.
Tired of not being able to walk from my car into a building without becoming drenched in sweat.
Tired of my AC not being able to compensate.
Tired that I have to work in the heat in a goddamn retail store because tha AC keeps breaking.
I am so fucking tired.
It's been above 95F every fucking day.
The heat index is never under 100F.
And it's only ever going to get worse. Get hotter.
This is so fucking miserable.
The heat + humidity makes it hard to even breathe.
I hate the south. I hate this country. I hate everyone who let this shit get this fucking bad.

reminder to all Northern folks, please check in on your Southern friends and see if they're ok and safe from Hurricane Helene. It's a disaster down here.

Oops?
In the r/ff fanfic server, there was a thing where people were just repeating various of 'John Madden' and 'John fuckin' Madden' with varying degrees of emphasis and intensity. I asked who this was.
They explained.
I googled.
Apparently - because the southern way of speaking is what it is - I have been thinking, for a number of years, the football game was 'Matton' football.
Please note: I have been pronouncing it that way for years and nobody noticed I was wrong.

People who live in the U.S south are SICK of having to beg for empathy and mercy from the rest of the country.
We are not stupid.
We are not all republicans.
We are people JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!!!!
#oh and on that note#even if everyone in the south was a republican#we still wouldn’t deserve to die because our states lack resources#us south#arkansas#southern queer

Me, (someone who likes it cold but lives somewhere that you still sweat in late November), finally getting to put on my sleepytime long sleeve shirt for the first time all year: And I feel God in this chilly tonight.

Protesting discriminatory and oppressive governments and groups also includes supporting the people discriminated against and oppressed by them, btw. Oppressive red states have to have someone to oppress, usually within those states. Simply trying to abandon people in the US South is an act of betrayal, no matter how conservative a state may be
#us south#'these are the worst states to live in as a minority' means THEY ARE ACTIVELY DOING SHIT TO MINORITIES#within the state!!! people you say you're trying to protect!!!!#serious posts#texas#us politics#lgbtqia+#my posts

Something I distinctly remember from high school is trying to hide things such as my Southern Appalachian accent and my enjoyment of classic country/bluegrass because people would start making fun of me for it.
Albeit, some of the people making fun of me were being probably joking or being sarcastic but it still kinda hurt to hear it and thus I felt ashamed. Now that I am out of high school, my accent is back and I shamelessly listen to the aforementioned music. XD

(CN) — When Jeremy Kimbrell landed a job 24 years ago at the Mercedes Benz plant in Vance, Alabama, he thought his life had taken a turn for the better. Just 22-years-old at the time, his experience included working in a clothing warehouse and for a roofing company. The pay was low, the benefits were meager, and Kimbrell wasn’t exactly fond of the hot and dangerous work. Through an acquaintance, Kimbrell heard the newly minted Mercedes plant was hiring temporary workers with the possibility to be retained as employees. The jobs offered pay of up to $20 per hour, health insurance, vacation and sick days and a retirement plan. The incentives fell short of what union workers were earning at the so-called “Big Three” automakers of General Motors, Stellantis and Ford. Still, it was “pretty good for Alabama,” Kimbrell recalled thinking at the time. But as the years passed and the economy evolved, Kimbrell and other Mercedes workers began to feel increasingly neglected. Pay raises became smaller and less frequent, while promotions slowed to a trickle. Management constantly increased production goals and whittled away at employee liberties. Temporary workers became less likely to be offered full-time employment — and even when they were, their wages were capped at lower levels than more senior employees. Turnover increased. “Around the time of the Great Recession is when the workers began to feel like we were being treated like a dime a dozen,” Kimbrell said in a phone interview Feb. 13. “That has led to where we are now, where people are finally fed up.” Since January, at least 30% of workers at both the Mercedes and Hyundai plants in Alabama — plus more than half of workers at the Volkswagen plant in Tennessee — have signed union authorization cards seeking recognition from their employers to unionize. That’s according to the United Auto Workers, a major union focused on the automobile industry with more than 400,000 current members.
