I wrote a novella! Now you can buy it! I have it set at $7 or pay what you want. Or you can get it for free if you’re a Kofi member! It's a queer urban fantasy romance and I hope you love it! Makes a great gift for the holidays! In the future I'll have printed copies going up on sale, but for now you can get this awesome 60 page PDF.
This is a story that started as a note on my phone and grew over years into this. This is the story of Astrid, a lonely painter who is on vacation looking for inspiration. The island is beautiful but the only thing she wants to paint is the local girl she meets, Aoife.
As they grow closer the inevitable separation starts to loom between them. Astrid’s time draws to a close and she must think of heading home she starts to delve into the mystery of Aoife and wonders if she can take the heartbreak of leaving her behind.

I think the reason that Dimension 20 really scratches all those itches in my brain is that it really shows what you can do with D&D---and TTRPGs as a whole.
Fantasy High, by itself, is an incredibly compelling concept. What would D&D look like in a semi-modern setting? What would a high school that's all about teaching teens how to be adventurers look like? And the way it's done is beyond inventive, especially if you look at all the encounters in the first season---we've got a literal food fight, a high-speed road chase with tiefling greasers, a nightclub brawl with zombies, vampires, and werewolves, a skating match with a bunch of dwarven middle schoolers and a concrete golem, a high-stakes game of football (ish) with undead jocks that give off major teen slasher vibes, a fight done in an arcade where characters can get trapped in the consoles, and the final battle is done at prom. PROM! How cool is that?
And then we get to the Unsleeping City, which takes the urban fantasy elements that Fantasy High already had and elevates it. The way the D&D lore and magic is interpreted in a modern New York setting is excellent, as is the whole take on the "American Dream," magic literally coming from dreams, ideas, and the imagination. I know that I need to actually finish the UC saga, but from what I've seen and experienced, it is truly fantastic.
And the same energy carries through to the other seasons---my personal favorite outside of Fantasy High being A Court of Fey and Flowers, just because I'm a sucker for any Fey Realm content and I've been raised on Jane Austen---where the genre mashups shine through in the best way possible. I'll admit, I haven't seen A Crown of Candy, purely because I know how heartbreaking and devastating it is and I don't think I can physically handle it, but the concept of Candyland Game of Thrones is so beautifully bizarre that I totally get why people love it so much. Escape from the Bloodkeep hitting that workplace comedy vibe that we love to see in villains. Misfits & Magic being a love letter to the "magical boarding school" genre while also calling out all the weird contradictions inherent in it. A Starstruck Odyssey literally being an homage to Brennan's mom and exactly the kind of madcap and unhinged energy I need from my sci-fi. Neverafter perfectly encapsulating the true horror of fairy tales. Mentopolis hitting my noir-loving heart and personifying hyperfixation in the best way possible.
I'm not even kidding when I say that, if it weren't for Dimension 20... I probably wouldn't have even started my own campaign. I'd had snippets and ideas ever since officially getting into D&D and joining a game with some old friends (and getting back in touch with them in the process), but after I saw the Mentopolis trailer, I realized just how much variety TTRGPs had to offer. I could do a time-blending, history-meets-future campaign. I could go out-of-the-box. I could have endless amounts of options available to my friends and still tell the story that I wanted to tell. And when I sat down and watched Fantasy High---and when I got that Dropout subscription so I could consume whatever I wanted---it felt like the show was actually giving me advice. It's fantastic.
Also it helps that the episodes are usually only roughly a couple hours instead of being, like, an entire afternoon long. And that each season is 20 episodes, tops. No offense to Critical Role, but the sheer amount of content literally makes it impossible for me to get into it.
#dimension 20#dropout tv#fantasy high#the unsleeping city#a court of fey and flowers#a crown of candy#a starstruck odyssey#neverafter#mentopolis#i just love this show so much you guys

motogp bikes as (mostly) hard candies
w/ bonus drink i associate w/ each bike livery segment for some reason...
post inspiration: saw the pramac livery. thought I need to lick that bike so bad. the rest is history.
aprilia - cinnamon heart candy

starting off with a potentially controversial choice, sure the aprilia livery isn't particularly red but the parts that are red pop! also the livery just gives very broody and misunderstood, urban fantasy, tragic heartbreak, vampire romance pulp fiction novel protagonist vibes, a black streak speeding by like a shadow in the night... also x2, i tried not to take into account the riders for each team when making these assignments, but heart shaped candy for team loverboy? how could i pass?
drink: chocolate-strawberry milkshake w/ 2 straws
ducati - cherry halls

there's just something very fake medicinal about this livery like it's trying to say i'm good for you, but it's probably just giving you red food dye poisoning or something.
drink: coca-cola pre 1900s edition
gresini - non-descript tin mint

I took one look at these bikes and knew there was no way I wld be able to find any candy that colour. I was semi-right because the only thing I could find that was remotely similar were this one picture of a tin of mints on google images. the colour (which I have no word to describe and neither did the colour dropper I tried using) somehow manages to feel both sterile and unsanitary, like sun faded, mildew infested patient divider curtains in an underfunded hospital which is also how I would imagine those mints taste so I guess everything worked out in the end.
drink: those butterfly pea lattes I’ve never had before, but have heard taste like dirt
honda - candy canes

this is a bike livery that screams christmas, the festive red framework, the wintery blue accents and of course the cute green castrol sponsor logo perfectly tying off the christmas colour thematic trio like a bow on a present and what candy is more christmas-y than candy canes?
drink(s): aftermath of that elephant toothpaste experiment thingie, tide pods
ktm + tech3 - candy corn (i know this isn’t actually hard candy but just let me have this one ok)

if the honda bike livery embodies christmas then ktm bike livery is halloween all the way, specifically the kitschy, marketing ploy of companies changing all their regular products to black and orange versions of the same thing so they can still sell the same products but hey its limited edition™ now 😱😱😱 and what candy could better embodies the corniness of commercial halloween than candy corn? (ahaha get it.. cuz candy corn yk..)
drink: reese's pieces cookie dough blizzard® treat
pramac - grape lollipop

bright and shiny, you’ll probably cut your tongue on it if you lick it's irresistible gleaming surface (talking abt the lollipop, but I've heard carbon fibre is quite sharp as well so mayhaps be cautious w/ that too) but damn it’s worth it. does it taste good in the complete objective sense? debatable... but it’s just soooo glossy and smooth and you need to lick it so fucking bad (I'm not projecting, you're projecting)
drink: grape cough syrup
trackhouse - blue skittle

the matte finish immediately made me think of hard outer shell, hard chocolate coated outer shell, m&ms! unfortunately this is meant to be the which hard candy does each bike livery remind me not which chocolate do they remind me of so i had to go w/ the sugary candy alter ego of m&ms, skittles instead.
drink: blue milk
vr46 - warheads

yellow... lemons.... sour... obviously the candy associated w/ this livery had to be something so sour it makes u make a 😖 face when u eat it <— also the reaction of most ppl when they saw the livery (not me tho as someone who obtains joy from eating lemons and looking at absurdly neon bikes, im just built different). admittedly there are a lot of sour candies out there, however warheads candies are not only sour, they also feature obnoxiously highlighter yellow packaging to match the obnoxiously highlighter yellow bike livery and most importantly they perfectly capture the whimsy of the person the bike livery directly draws inspiration from (who has also lovingly slapped his branding right onto the front of each bike for further emphasize) with a cute and thematically befitting cartoon caricature.
drink(s): panera charged lemonade (mango yuzu citrus flavour to be specific), mountain dew
yamaha - blue rock candy
the interplay b/w black and blue adds nice depth to the livery, creates a jagged feel feeling as perfectly embodied by the crystalline structure of rock candies. very much a cut your tongue if you dare try licking it livery, in a similar vein to pramac (apparently that's the yamaha brand) but in a much less alluring and more i've warned you and i dare you to try way almost akin to the tail rattle of a rattlesnake.
drink: methylene blue
lcr - candy canes 2.0
this bish came out right when i was finishing up this draft, it's another christmas honda bike! this one features a bit less of the icy, winter blue aspects the christmas aesthetic and a bit more of the elf-y santa's helper vibes (also off topic i can't be the only one who thinks this japanese bike looks weirdly italian...). consequently for all the reasons the factor honda livery must be a candy cane associated livery, lcr honda must be one too! let's just say factory is mint candy canes and lcr honda is peppermint candy canes for slight differentiation.
drink: canada dry ginger ale christmas sweater edition
bonus: girl wdym lcr not only decided to take 50 yrs to do their bike launch but also have 2 diff liveries...
luckily candy canes are versatile and thus this too shall be a peppermint candy cane..
#motogp#admittedly at some point while i was brainstorming#the “drinks” section just became#the vaguely liquid substances section#ik we're on the there are too many red bikes train#but after doing this ive come to the conclusion the real problems are#the blue bikes

ok your posting had intrigued me… should i read the tarot sequence???
YESSSSSS (totally not biased)
But! if you want to know what it's about, the tarot sequence is an adult urban fantasy series set in "New Atlantis" (aka Nantucket island off the east coast of America). Atlanteans are a very old, not-quite-immortal society of magical people who have only recently been forced to reveal themselves to the greater human world, but some of their culture has leaked through in things like tarot cards—which are the names of the twenty-two rulers/thrones of their society.
The main character, Rune, is the heir to one of these thrones—the sun throne. Normally, this would give him a lot of privilege and power, but his family's throne fell when he was fifteen in a violent attack that left only two survivors—him, and his magically bonded Companion Brand. In the present, he and Brand are mercenaries picking up odd jobs to keep a roof over their heads, while at the same time Rune tries to investigate and discover who orchestrated the fall of his throne twenty years ago. The first book starts here, but before long Rune and Brand are given a new job that’s sets them on a collision course with people and events that will change their lives—and quite possibly the world—forever.
Some things these books have: queernormative societies, found families, overpowered MCs, unclear prophets who refuse to elaborate, characters with more snark than sense, unique magic systems, meddling teenagers, and plenty of creepy ghosts and ghouls and other paranormal creatures. They’re books about healing from your past and building a new life with the people you love, and they’re some of the most simultaneously hilarious and heartbreaking books I’ve ever read. Right now, there are three books published out of a planned nine, with one bonus published novel from the pov of some secondary characters and a ton of extra content on the author’s website.
The last two things I’d note— first off, a big tw for sexual assault. The main event in question is in the past and is never described in detail, but it’s a huge part of Rune’s past and as a result a huge part of the story as he tries to both move past it and find the people who hurt him. So just something to know and consider before you start reading. The other thing is that the main complaint that I see about the series is that the first book is pretty white and male-centric, but if you can make it to the second book it gets wayyy better from there. Overall, it’s a super fun series and I really can’t recommend them enough! :D
#the tarot sequence#asks#sales pitch over… nothing to say in tags for once i got it all out in the actual post

↳ 📱𝚊 𝚜𝚘𝚌𝚒𝚊𝚕 𝚖𝚍𝚒𝚊 𝚊𝚞 (4/)
TikTok Video – Alex’s 2nd Chance Review of *Brideshead Revisited*
@acd.chronicles

(Video opens with Alex sitting on his couch with the book in hand, this time marked with tabs and notes. He smirks a little, clearly referencing his earlier statements)
Alex
"Okay, so last time I talked about *Brideshead Revisited*, I... wasn’t exactly kind to it.
(He chuckles softly, flipping through the book’s worn pages)
Alex
“I said it was a story of rich people being sad in castles, and honestly, I stand by a lot of what I said.
"But—Henry, you got me. I reread it, and yeah, I noticed more this time. I have... thoughts."
Alex
"So first off, I’ll admit, Waugh’s ability to write emotional nuance, especially between two men, is something I didn’t appreciate as much the first time around.
“There’s something undeniably beautiful about how Waugh captures queerness through subtext.
(He opens the book to an annotated page)
Alex
"'Perhaps all our loves are merely hints and symbols; vagabond languages scrawled on the walls of caves.'
“And honestly, it’s kind of... heartbreaking, seeing how much is left unsaid because it had to be, for so many reasons."
(Alex pauses, nodding as if considering the layers more)
Alex
"But here’s the thing—while I can appreciate the beauty and complexity of these relationships, I still stand by what I said in my first video.
“We do need to look at these stories critically, especially classics that were written in a different time. *Brideshead* unequivocally centers on the lives of wealthy, white, privileged characters.
“We can appreciate the artistry while also recognizing the limits of who gets to tell these kinds of stories and why they’re still held up as ‘the best we’ve got.’
“It’s important we keep pushing back on this idea that classics should be held up without critique.”
(Alex sets the book aside and smiles, wrapping up on a lighter note)
Alex
"Anyway, shoutout to Henry for making me rethink things, and I’ll admit, this second read gave me a lot to think about. Peace and love, y’all.”

TikTok Video – Henry’s Review of *The City We Became* by N.K. Jemisin

@SonnetAndSpice
(The video opens with Henry sitting in a cozy setting, soft lighting, with a cup of tea steaming beside him. He smiles warmly at the camera, adjusting the book on his lap before glancing back up with a calm but enthusiastic expression)
Henry
“Hello, everyone. Welcome back to *Fox and Folio*—though today, we’re taking a bit of a detour into the future. And by ‘future,’ I mean N.K. Jemisin’s *The City We Became,* which… well, Alex might’ve just introduced me to a new all-time favorite.
(Henry chuckles softly, holding up the book with an unmistakable glimmer in his eyes, his expression like he’s still processing how much the story resonated with him)
Henry
“So, for those who haven’t read it yet, *The City We Became* is this brilliant mashup of urban fantasy, science fiction, and social commentary. It’s—well—it’s a lot of things, but most of all, it’s alive.
“It’s about New York City becoming alive—literally—and how each borough has its own avatar, these human embodiments that represent the city’s diversity, its grit, and honestly, its soul.
“The way Jemisin creates this rich, living tapestry of New York, while also exploring themes like gentrification, systemic racism, and community—it’s nothing short of genius. It feels… urgent, you know?”
(He takes a thoughtful sip of his tea, as though collecting his thoughts for a moment, then continues with a softer tone)
Henry
“The characters aren’t just representing the city—they’re *fighting* for their boroughs, for the identity of their communities. There’s this brilliant quote in the book: ‘Cities are not people, but something else altogether: cities are alive.’
"And what Jemisin does, beautifully, is show us that cities are made of the people who care for them. The ones who’ve been here the longest, the ones whose voices we need to hear most. That idea just… stuck with me."
(He runs a hand over the book's cover, a brief pause as he looks down, processing the weight of the subject)
Henry
“I’ve only been here a short while, but every day I’m more aware of how the city’s history, and its people, shape it into what it is. How painful it must be to see it change—forcefully, and sometimes, without care.
“And to be honest, it’s something I think about constantly. I’m… aware that I’m part of that problem, just by being here.”
(His voice grows a bit quieter, more introspective, as he acknowledges the weight of his own role in the city)
Henry
“This book doesn’t try to tell you how to feel, but it does ask you to *see*—to see what’s really happening, and to be mindful of your place in it.
"Jemisin doesn’t preach—she just opens your eyes. And... I think that’s the kind of narrative we need more of."
(He leans back slightly, his usual calm demeanor returning, though there’s an undeniable intensity behind his words. His passion is clear, but it’s delivered with a gentle grace)
Henry
“I genuinely think *The City We Became* is one of the most exciting, thought-provoking books I’ve read in years. If you live in New York—or even if you don’t—it’ll change the way you look at cities, at communities, and at identity itself. It’s just... something I can’t recommend enough.”
(Henry shifts slightly, a playful smirk pulling at the corner of his mouth as he continues, making sure to credit Alex)
Henry
“Of course, credit where credit’s due—thank you, Alex, for pushing me to read this. I don’t think I’d have picked it up on my own, but I’m *so* glad I did.”
(He smiles softly, a bit sheepish but sincere, his gratitude genuine)
Henry
“And thank you, N.K. Jemisin, for writing a story that feels so deeply resonant. You’ve truly created something remarkable.
“As always, let me know if you’ve read it—and what you thought. I’d love to hear your perspectives on this one.
"Until next time—happy reading, and cheers."
(The video ends with Henry leaning forward slightly, giving the camera a final, knowing smile)

Dionysus in Wisconsin

Fall, 1969. Ulysses Lenkov is a grad student in the Department of Magic Studies at UW-Madison. When a local seer warns him something dangerous is coming, his investigation leads him to Sam Sterling, an archivist and community theater nerd who's standing directly in the path of an arriving god. Soon the two are helping each other through demon attacks, discovering the unsavory history of Sam's family, and racing to find a solution that doesn't lead to heartbreak and death. But as the year draws to a close, they'll face a deadly showdown as they try to save Sam—and the city itself. It's the first in a series, but there's no cliffhanger and it has a HEA.
You might like Dionysus in Wisconsin...
If you are a former Gifted kid who had an obsession with mythology and enjoy m/m romance with a touch of gritty noir and heady magic
If you love the way certain words feel in your mouth
If you were a theater kid or ever wanted your best friend to be a sentient library
If you're a diehard KJ Charles or Cat Sebastian or Jordan L. Hawk stan
If you ever want someone to get their urban fantasy in your romance novel
If you think a historical novel set in the 60s without any homophobia might be fun
If you have undiagnosed or late diagnosed ADHD and you wish you could simultaneously be a traveling bard and the inventor of time travel
If you really like band T-shirts and getting caught in the rain.
If you--just, you know what, go get it. Stop waiting.
Amazon link! Universal links!
The paperback is real pretty too, just so you know:

A lot of times, I have people ask me for recommendations for incest media, or just don't know where to start, so without further ado:
Cocteau Azaka's Incest Reading List!
Books
Wasteland by Francesca Lia Block
Incest Rating: 9.5/10
Incest Type: Siblings, Explicit, Focal Point
Genre: Romance, Drama, Tragedy, Coming of Age
Overall Rating: 9/10
Wasteland is a beautifully written, albeit heartbreaking, book about love, loss, and growing up as an outsider. The book utilizes multiple points of view, signified by changes in font and narrative distance, to paint the picture of three teens in 1980s SoCal who are looking for answers. The first time I read this book, I finished it in tears and immediately read it a second time, just because I wanted more of it.
Hale by K Webster
Incest Rating: 9/10
Incest Type: Siblings, Explicit, Focal Point
Genre: Romance, Drama
Overall Rating: 5/10
Hale is... Not a great book. The characters are so painfully cishet and neurotypical that, while they're ostensibly fleshed out, they're so perfectly, stereotypically normal that I legitimately felt alienated. I suppose the point is that it's not always the fucked up people who can be in a forbidden relationship, that even the girl next door can fall in love with her brother, but in execution the only reason the characters weren't boring is that they wrapped around to being fascinating if only because this was what being "normal" is like.
Overall quality aside, the romance itself is not only convincing, but spectacular. It's a poignant depiction of the line between siblings and lovers blurring until it's inevitably crossed, and it has an explicitly happy ending— a rarity in incest media.
Love's Forbidden Flower, by Diane Rinella
Incest Rating: 6/10
Incest Type: Siblings, Will They Won't They, Explicit
Genre: Romance, Drama
Overall Rating: 4/10
To be blunt, this book was a letdown. I appreciate what the author was going for, and I felt that it did achieve that, somewhat?
But I could not stand the characters, particularly the secondary love interest that's introduced after the main character is let down by her brother time and time again. The reason why this book is on here at all is the end of the second act/early parts of the third, where the protagonist's brother is redeemed and they finally are together, even if it's only temporary when they find that they're not able to withstand the challenges of a socially unacceptable relationship. Rinella wrote a fascinating turn in the plot with a bravery not usually becoming of Western authors of the genre, and for that I applaud her.
Kara no Kyoukai: Records in Oblivion by Kinoko Nasu
Incest rating: 6/10
Incest Type: Siblings, Unrequited, but Explicit, Sub-plot
Genre: Urban fantasy, neo-noir
Overall rating: 7/10
Obviously, I have a fondness for Kara no Kyoukai, and for Azaka specifically, but I'll admit that this isn't the most incestuous book on the list. It does have some payoff with a platonic date at the end, but primarily it's on this list because it does a good job of exploring Azaka's feelings and not invalidating them or downplaying them. I would recommend reading the KnK books prior to this one first, or else you'll most likely be hopelessly lost.
Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk
Incest Rating: 4/10
Incest Type: Siblings, Explicit, Questionably Requited? Auxillary to the Plot
Genre: Chuck Palahniuk, Drama
Overall Rating: 8/10
Like most of Palahniuk's works, Invisible Monsters is about fucked up people doing fucked up things, driven by self-destruction until they enter todestrieb. As usual, it's fucking glorious.
Invisible Monsters focuses on themes of beauty, identity, attention, disability, and the way that all of these intersect with womanhood. It's not for readers who are squeamish about depictions of transphobia or a narrator who is somewhat transphobic herself, but if you're able to stomach it I highly recommend it.
If you're reading it just for the incest, you'll probably be disappointed, but if you want a fantastic book with some small amount of explicit incest feelings, I would say go for it.
Not Forever, but For Now by Chuck Palahniuk
I'm putting this on the list because though I haven't read it yet, I know that it's explicitly incestuous. I cannot promise that the incest is good, I can't even promise that the book is good, but I can assure you that those brothers are fucking.
Manga
Sayuri-San no Imouto wa Tenshi
Incest Rating: 10/10
Incest Type: Explicit, Sisters, Focal Point
Genre: Yuri, Slice of Life, Romance, Comedy
Overall Rating: 9/10
This manga is very short, but focuses on the day to day life of a young woman and her estranged, sickly younger sister, who re-enters her life suddenly with a halo and wings that only the protagonist and her friend can see.
It's an extremely sweet, funny and lighthearted manga that is nonetheless deeply touching.
Citrus
Incest Rating: 5/10
Incest Type: Step-Sisters, Focal Point, Explicit
Genre: Yuri, Romance, Drama, Gyaru
Overall Rating: 6/10
Citrus is the queen of sister yuri, earning the rare privilege of an anime adaptation, which in this genre is rare! However, just because Citrus is queen does not make it the best, not even by a long shot. The plot is extremely melodramatic, the kisses questionably consensual for most of the first acts, and with the strict uniform standards, a lot of the tertiary characters can be difficult to discern in black and white. It has it's redeeming qualities, but mostly I've found that it's over-hyped.
I Met My Sister On A Dating Site
Incest Rating: 7/10
Incest Type: Sisters, Focal Point, Explicit
Genre: Yuri, Slice of Life, Comedy, Romance
Overall Rating: 7/10
This is a really cute and short manga with a great premise, but honestly it's very lacking in substance. That's okay though, because it does exactly what it sets out to do: be something short and sweet that ends with sisters dating.
Oshi no Ko
Incest Rating: 8/10
Incest Type: Siblings, Twins, Explicit, Ostensibly Requited? Sub plot
Genre: Drama, Thriller, Revenge, Idols
Overall Rating: 8/10
I've written my thoughts on Oshi no Ko elsewhere, but to keep this brief, this is a fantastic series, and reading/watching it was the time of my life. The art is glamorous and over the top, with visibly heightened emotions that really sell the drama of it all.
We've only just started to get to the incest as of this chapter being written, but Ruby's reaction to her brother are so endearing that I'm preemptively rating it very highly
Koi no Kaze
Incest Rating: 7/10
Incest Type: Siblings, Explicit, Focal Point
Genre: Romance, Slice of Life
Overall Rating: 6/10
I don't have too much to say about this one— it's your basic, straightforward sibling love story played straight, with not too many twists or turns. I do appreciate that it includes an outing scene, so I'm rating it a bit higher, but it also hits on public acceptance, which for some people is a really important part of the fantasy.
1 x 1/2
Incest Rating: 8/10
Incest Type: Mother/Daughter, Explicit, Focal Point
Genre: Romance, Drama, Yuri
Overall Rating: */10
Taiyaki, the mangaka who created 1 x 1/2, is in my opinion one of the greatest mother/daughter writers and artists out there. 1 x 1/2 is a complicated work to judge as an English speaker because what's currently on Mangadex is an excellent fan translation of an unfinished, no longer canon first draft. This is phenomenal, and does a great job of everything it sets out to do, until it ends very suddenly. When Taiyaki restarted 1 x 1/2, she partnered with an (incredibly mid) translation partner called Yuri Hub, which means that her work can no longer be fan translated, and the translation published is pretty clearly machine-based. It's honestly very disappointing, as I would love to have a proper translation of the new 1 x 1/2.
Visual Novels
Full Metal Daemon Muramasa
Incest Rating: 8/10
Incest Type: Siblings (Explicit? Implicit? Somewhat unrequited?), Parent/Child (Explicit)
Genre: Fantasy Mecha, Action, Drama, Samurai
Overall Rating: 9/10
Muramasa is an epic, and I don't know how to impress the drama of the fight scenes throughout, and the way that they combine real swordplay theory with imagined mecha combat, crossed with samurai tropes. It can be really difficult to get through, as the game is not even in the slightest for the squeamish. There's a lot of rape, both implied and explicit, however the antagonist's motivation is that she wants to ascend to godhood so that she's no longer bound by the rules of morality and therefore can marry her father. Additionally, her relationship with her brother is extremely sexually charged, and their fight scenes often involve comparisons to sex.
This is one of the best mecha VNs ever written, with a truly fantastic ending.
Tsukihime
Incest Rating: 7/10
Incest Type: Siblings, Explicit, Focal Point (of one route)
Genre: Action, Urban Fantasy, Horror
Overall Rating: 7/10
This game is a touchy subject for me. I've had the misfortune of playing Tsukihime after having it hyped up for literal years, so it not measuring up to that hype is less a statement on my objective assessment of the VN, and more a statement on how beloved it is.
Having said that, the Akiha route is fantastic. I'm not sure that I have much to say on the subject that hasn't already been said, but believe you me, Tsukihime is worth playing.
Love Ribbon
Incest Rating: 8/10
Incest Type: Sisters, Explicit, Focal Point
Genre: Slice of Life, Drama, Romance, Comedy, Yuri
Overall Rating: 6/10
Love Ribbon is a short, sweet VN that's a really solid 6/10 and is worth the $15 it costs to support an indie dev. It focuses on two sisters who were raised apart, and only meet when they share an apartment to attend a prestigious high school. The romance is cute, the plot is uncomplicated, and there are only two routes, but there's a long epilogue where they're explicitly dating and ostensibly get symbolically married. If you have unresolved daddy issues that you can't touch for fear of untangling something massive, this is a great read because so do those girls.
Thank you for reading, I hope that this list helps people!

Jade City - Fonda Lee
5/5 - Irresistible world-building, politics (national and gang), intrigue, family tension, everything you could want out of an urban fantasy. MAJOR spoilers below!
Jade City is the first novel in the Green Bone saga and it is deliciously well-written. Character voices are distinct, the mistakes they make are realistic, and even when I didn't like some of the main characters or the actions they were taking, I wanted them to succeed. I was emotionally invested in the outcome of every character's fate, from the secondary characters to the Pillar of the clan, Kaul Lan. Sometimes this did mean I was invested in watching them fail (Bero) but I was invested nevertheless!
The world-building within the novel was incredibly rich. The "magic" system of jade is a very hard magic system but I really enjoyed how effortlessly it was woven into everyday life. Lee takes the time to mention, in an offhand fashion, details about Kekon and the greater world that make it that much easier to fully sink into the world she's built. I read this entire book in one long sitting.
Kekon itself really reminded me of the Philippines. The Kekonese war for independence was with Espenia (Spain) and overall the positioning of Kekon on the global stage is really reminiscent of how formerly colonized nations have to act in our global geopolitics. That said, my interpretation did mean that I don't really jive with a lot of the fanart of Lan, Hilo, and Shae. In my mind, they all have darker skin and a lot of the fanart has them pretty pale (like k-pop idol pale).
I also loved that this book took place over a realistic timeline. Weeks would go by in a few sentences before we'd get a fleshed out scene because Lee understands we don't need to see the minutia of day-to-day life. It also means that the characters were aging, falling in love, graduating school, etc. at a normal rate. There was no instantaneous love, no "I'm better than everyone else and do this without schooling" and this was, for me, really refreshing (especially after reading the All Souls Trilogy, which suffers from this).
The twist with the death of Lan was truly something I never saw coming. Up until, and even after, the point where he falls into the harbor, I was convinced that he would make it. He was so confident, so level-headed, and everyone relied on him so much that, in my head, his death never entered the realm of possibility. And thus I fell into the same trap as the other characters. Scrumptious writing here.
By far my favorite characters are Shae and Anden. They both have internal struggles with their heritage that are realistic and heartbreaking at times. Even when they make mistakes and are rightfully called out for it in other perspectives, I still have such a soft spot for the position they're both put in. It makes sense that they're also close in the book. Plus, seeing Anden struggle with wanting to come out as gay but being nervous about it and ultimately being accepted without conditions, hesitations, or reservations was really heartwarming.
Overall, this book is the combination of urban fantasy, the Godfather, and the Shanghai/Hong Kong gangster movies from the 80s. I would recommend those who love fantasy and thrillers alike, it's a amazing entry into the trilogy.
#I am a little insane about these books#I read them in September (iirc) and have not stopped thinking about them since#I'm thinking of getting copies for myself just so I can read and reread as often as I want#they're That Good#jade city#kaul hilo#kaul shae#kaul lan#emery anden#fonda lee#green bone saga#book review#urban fantasy

Echo's OC Collection
I've played enough video games and TTRPGs to have amassed a small collection of OCs that I'm both fond of and happen to have enough lore on to warrant writing about them. Here are a few of my favourites (this list is subject to change/addition, and will be included below the cut because it got HELLA long)
(also! tagging @dominaarts and @transman-badass because it's been a hot minute since I did, if anyone else would like to be added to this tag list and be alerted to new WIPs and other interesting tidbits, let me know! <3
Name: Clara J. Manning Universe: Cthulhu Mythos, Call of Cthulhu: Masks of Nyarlathotep (actual play podcast here) (1920s, Cthulhu Mythos, occult horror etc.) Age: mid-twenties Appearance: short stature, average build, grey eyes, blonde and slightly curly hair cut into a bob, steel-rimmed spectacles Character: an antiquarian by trade, Clara has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and adventure, and an innate curiosity that sometimes leads her to commit rash, impulsive acts. What she lacks in social grace and politesse she more than makes up for in earnestness and enthusiasm, and is fiercely loyal to her friends, colleagues and loved ones. Via a series of curious events in Innsmouth, she met Private Investigator Jack Malone (character property of Seth Skorkowsky, used with the permission given in his videos) and is pursuing a relationship with him.
(note: where this character is concerned, I will not be taking the end of the campaign I played with her as "canon" (because things got heartbreaking and complicated, poor lass...), instead simply using her in her pre-campaign state and the city of Arkham as a backdrop for potential fics)
***
Name: Madeline "Mad" Roz (née Harroway)
Universe: homebrew Mythras campaign Centralia: The Rise of Lazarus (actual play podcast here) (mid-2010s, urban fantasy/horror, vampires)
Age: 35 (at death)
Appearance: short stature, very slim/borderline underweight build, long black hair with a side-cut, unnaturally green eyes, extreme pallor associated with vampirism
Character: formerly a doctor, Madeline was turned against her will and thrust into a long-running battle between good and evil, order and chaos, magick and reality. Initially very reserved, blunt, and cold thanks to a personal loss and unprocessed grief, over time she came to open up to her newly-found friends and state of being. Since her turning, she has been introduced to chaos magick, believing her newfound abilities to stem from a green-eyed serpent living inside her chest. Whether this is true or simply a hallucination taken at face value has never been confirmed, but like her vampirism, she has since made peace with this unconventional state of being. Nowadays, she lives with her partner-turned-husband, Edgar Roz, a former detective turned "knight" of the city formerly known as Centralia, Pennsylvania. She operates an obscure pirate radio station and acts as a guiding voice for anyone feeling as lost as she once did.
***
Name: Six/Courier Six/The Courier
Universe: Fallout: New Vegas (post-apocalyptic, weird sci-fi/pulp, power struggle, faction war, the trials and tribulations of an anarchic society)
Age: unknown
Appearance: average height, slightly athletic build, short, unstyled auburn hair, hazel eyes, gunshot wound scar on right-hand side of forehead, surgical scars all over scalp
Karma: neutral-to-good, varying
Faction: Independent/Wild Card, honorary Follower of the Apocalypse
(anything I write about Six could take place at any point on this long, sprawling and downright convoluted timeline of events and beyond...)
Character: having essentially started her life from scratch upon waking up in Goodsprings with a healing brain injury and very few accessible memories, Six has learned to define herself based on how others react to her - common descriptors used are "unpredictable", "way, way too goddamn cheerful", or simply "fucking crazy" - this last after she marched into the Tops Casino with nothing but a knife concealed under a borrowed dress to confront the man who killed her... and walked back *out* the following morning, having left the man alive and unhurt.
Yeah, Boone was never able to wrap his head around that one.
Willing to lend a hand wherever she was needed, and kill those who needed killing, Six made many friends (and a good few enemies) on her madcap journey across the Mojave and beyond. She found the treasure at the heart of the fabled Sierra Madre, and left it to rot with the man who'd dragged her there in the first place (minus one gold bar, of course.) She survived having her organs stolen (and returned) by a maurauding group of mad scientists. She crossed the Divide.
And, after all that, she took Hoover Dam. Not for the NCR, not for Caesar, not even for Mr House (him, she'd murdered, in what rumour and gossip would call an impulsive grab for power, but she could only call a mercy stroke), but for Vegas itself.
The Queen of Hearts, they call her now.
#writeblr#writeblr community#character intro#original characters#my ocs#fallout: new vegas#call of cthulhu#maddie is probably my favourite torture victim tbh#our gm at the time used to encourage me to do things that basically amounted to pushing her into the meat grinder#and it was AWESOME#they won't see this because they don't fuck with tumblr but they are hands down the most talented writer i've had the pleasure to meet#(i have their permission to use the CTRL universe so it's all good)

4) What song describes your OC and their partner/love interest?
Yay!!!! Thanks for the ask!!!!
Let's go with some characters from 'Crash Stardom!' because I feel I should talk more about that WIP lmao, so here we go!!!
WIP Summary for context: Crash Stardom! is a futuristic urban fantasy with a touch of sci-fi, and the story of the book follows Tristan Mallory (20M) the most popular pop singer in the nation, as he tries to escape his creepy agent, Sinclair (45F), and keep his career, along with what is left of his family, from falling apart. When Tristan's younger half-brother, Noah (16M), discovers a dangerous secret society along with the fact that magic exists on Earth, it just had been hidden well, Tristan too ends up caught up in that mess too. Especially when he finds himself falling in love with the bitter yet incredibly attractive hitman hunting the secret society down, Randall Sloanne (21M)
CRASH STARDOM!
Tristan Mallory X Randall Sloanne (true relationship/true love)
Let The World Burn - Chris Gray
I shouldn't have fallen in love Look what it made me become I let you get too close Just to wake up alone And I know you think you can run You're scared to believe I'm the one But I just can't let you go I'd let the world burn Let the world burn for you This is how it always had to end If I can't have you then no one can I'd let it burn I'd let the world burn Just to hear you calling out my name Watching it all go down in flames
Please Please Please - Morgan Clae version
Please please please don't prove I'm right Please please please Don't bring me to tears when I just did my makeup so nice Heartbreak is one thing My egos another I beg you don't embarass me Mother fucker ahhh Please please please Well I have a fun idea babe Maybe just stay inside I know you're craving some fresh air But the ceiling fan is so nice And we could live so happily If no one knows that you're with me I'm just kidding But really Kinda Really
I'll Be There For You - Chase Holfelder version
So no one told you life was gonna be this way Your job's a joke, you're broke Your love life's DOA It's like you're always stuck in second gear When it hasn't been your day, your week, your month Or even your year, but I'll be there for you (When the rain starts to pour) I'll be there for you (Like I've been there before) I'll be there for you ('Cause you're there for me too) You're still in bed at ten And work began at eight You've burned your breakfast So far, things are going great
Derya Muirenn X Noah Mallory
Teenage Dream - Katy Perry
Let's go all the way tonight No regrets, just love We can dance, until we die You and I, will be young forever You make me Feel like I'm livin' a teenage dream The way you turn me on, I can't sleep Let's run away and don't ever look back, don't ever look back My heart stops When you look at me, just one touch Now, baby, I believe this is real So take a chance and don't ever look back, don't ever look back
F*cking Perfect - Pink
Made a wrong turn, once or twice Dug my way out, blood and fire Bad decisions, that's alright Welcome to my silly life Mistreated, misplaced, misunderstood Miss knowing it's all good, it didn't slow me down Mistaken, always second guessing, underestimated Look, I'm still around Pretty, pretty please, don't you ever, ever feel Like you're less than fuckin' perfect Pretty, pretty please, if you ever, ever feel like you're nothing You're fuckin' perfect to me You're so mean (you're so mean) When you talk (when you talk) About yourself, you were wrong Change the voices (change the voices) In your head (in your head) Make them like you instead So complicated, look happy, you'll make it Filled with so much hatred, such a tired game It's enough, I've done all I can think of Chased down all my demons, I've seen you do the same, oh
Love Story - Taylor Swift
We were both young when I first saw you I close my eyes and the flashback starts I'm standin' there On a balcony in summer air See the lights, see the party, the ball gowns See you make your way through the crowd And say, "Hello" Little did I know That you were Romeo, you were throwin' pebbles And my daddy said, "Stay away from Juliet" And I was cryin' on the staircase Beggin' you, "Please don't go, " and I said Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes"
EXTRA (and no this doesn't count as a relationship, it is just coercion, it's a forced transaction that is VERY MUCH toxic as hell, but since it is still at the core of the story's subplots and is one of Tristan's main conflicts, Imma add it lol)
Tristan Mallory X Sinclair Attkens (one sided - Sinclair blackmails Tristan and Tristan wants to protect Noah so he plays along)
Every Breath You Take - Chase Holfelder version
Every breath you take And every move you make Every bond you break Every step you take I'll be watching you Every single day And every word you say Every game you play Every night you stay I'll be watching you Oh, can't you see You belong to me? How my poor heart aches With every step you take? Every move you make And every vow you break Every smile you fake Every claim you stake I'll be watching you
I've Had Enough - Melina KB
Here's to the "no"s To the "I think you should go"s To the leave his ass alone's To the hanging up the phone's To the no man can demand my Body, my spirit, my love Oh Here's to the "no"s To the "walk yourself on home"s To the keeping on my clothes To the highs without the lows To the no man can demand my Body, my spirit, my love, love Love If you're so mature now Then I think it's time you grow up Admit you did it! We all know you did it! And yet you still gaslight me up...
Teen Idle - Marina and The Diamonds (Tristan is 20 btw, but this song fits him too well not to add it here 😭)
The wasted years, the wasted youth The pretty lies, the ugly truth And the day has come where I have died Only to find, I've come alive I wanna be a virgin pure A twenty-first century whore I want back my virginity So I can feel infinity I wanna drink until I ache I wanna make a big mistake I want blood, guts, and angel cake I'm gonna puke it anyway Yeah, I wish I'd been, I wish I'd been, a teen, teen idle Wish I'd been a prom queen, fighting for the title Instead of being sixteen and burning up a bible Feeling super, super, super suicidal [...]
I wish I wasn't such a narcissist I wish I didn't really kiss The mirror when I'm on my own Oh God, I'm gonna die alone Adolescence didn't make sense A little loss of innocence The ugliness of being a fool Ain't youth meant to be beautiful?
Ego - Sarah Kennedy (this is honestly Sinclair's song fr)
Baby stroke my ego Will you tell me please? And watch my heart take ahold of me Baby stroke my ego Will you kiss my pride? And watch the lights change inside my eyes If you hold on to me tight I'll take you down with me tonight Show you things you wouldn't like to see but you would like to be If I could walk into your mind Take your hand and show you mine Show you things you wouldn't like to see but you would like to be Baby stroke my ego Say it from your knees Some say it's evil I say it's me
