There’s a man in Henry’s bedroom. That, itself, isn’t noteworthy. He’s become rather proficient at smuggling men in and out of his room at Kensington Palace and his first-year flat at Oxford. It’s not even especially noteworthy that the man is quite arresting. For better or worse, Henry’s title and reputation tend to help him pull gorgeous men with somewhat astonishing frequency. This man is, of course, particularly gorgeous. He’s tall, with olive skin, dark hair, and a bone structure that would send the old masters into a frenzy of pigments, linseed oil, and canvas. But, perhaps, the most noteworthy thing is that the man in Henry’s bedroom is quickly and awkwardly wiping his eyes with the backs of his hands. That he seems just as surprised to see Henry as Henry is to see him.

Or, the handwavey, time-travelly, astral-projectiony, canon-smooshy AU nobody asked for, but we're giving it to you anyway.

🚦 green: what is it about, what excited you about it, what sparked the idea?

Since my only other project I'm actively working on is secret, I'm going to talk about my LOTR AU! For those of you who don't know, that stands for Lord of the Rings, a fantasy trilogy by JRR Tolkien. I've loved the trilogy since fifth grade, but what inspired this AU was a drabble prompt for the word "battle" in @thebrownstone Discord server back in August (which I'm going to have to tweak now that I'm making this a full trilogy)! One of my favorite parts of the movies is Legolas and Gimli's constant competitions in battle... And given RWRB firstprince book height, it was too perfect not to play with that idea more!

One of my favorite parts of writing this fic has been figuring out which character traits and characters will be used in the fic and their relationships in RWRB and how that can be translated to an LOTR AU. This is also the first time I've extensively written Pez, especially a section or two from Pez's POV, and it's been an absolute delight!

red: what is the roadblock currently? what is one thing that is a necessary evil in making it?

No current roadblocks, but I've kind of written around them so far... Which can't be the case once I get to the Two Towers and Return of the King, and I'm a little nervous, guys. As a rule, I'm not great at writing action/fight scenes... And LOTR has a lot of them, which definitely makes it qualify as a necessary evil. So we'll see how that goes- you all might be getting snippets of it here just so I can make sure I'm doing it right!

If I did, I’d be ten million pounds richer, for a start.” Twice a year like clockwork, ex-Queen Mary, now the Duchess of Washington and holed up in one of her cousin’s royal properties in London along with her daughter and two remaining grandchildren, pops up on social media to remind the American population of the reward on offer for her younger grandson’s safe return. There have been literally dozens of fake Henrys over the years, all hoping to get their hands on the cash, all soon finding themselves on the wrong side of treason charges. He looks at Nora’s computer screen again, fingers drumming anxiously on the desk as he tips his chair back on its rear legs. “I’m telling you, though, I know that guy.”

I could reread this fic over and over again (that and its companion/sequel holiday fic ... 😉). Back when I finished other canon-divergent fics about firstprince, I wondered what it would be like if Alex and Henry were a different kind of badass, and here comes chamel’s AU. Hit me like a MACK truck

chamel if/when you read this, you’re one of my favourite firstprince writers and I’ve already said this to you before but what an inspiration you are and you deserve nothing but great things.
