Hello! Just want to start this off by saying that I love your blog and I find your posts very informative. I’m a sucker for character analysis and you manage to do it very well.
I had a question about the language aspect of Twisted Wonderland. I saw a screenshot of the novel and in it, it talked about how the Yuuya felt that their words were being translated automatically. Is this a novel only thing? Does the language aspect get explored further past that one page in the novels? Why are their words getting translated and yet other phrases in other languages are not(Rook’s French)? What are your thoughts about this and do you know of any popular discourse surrounding this topic?
My apologies if this is something you’ve talked about before.
Hello hello! Thank you for this question, you are too kind!! m(_ _)m
(For everyone's reference, here is the paragraph in question!)
Tumblr media
1. Is this a novel only thing? Thus far this explanation of how Yuuya is able to communicate in Twisted Wonderland has appeared only in the novel, with no mention to similar systems at work in the game or manga!
Tumblr media
Yuuya is even capable of reading his textbooks! While it is all vocabulary with which he is unfamiliar he is still able to comprehend the words on the pages, which he possibly wouldn't be able to do without the translation taking place.
(An example might be someone who only speaks French being able to read text written in Japanese but still struggling with unfamiliar magic terms that they wouldn't have understood in their native language anyway.)
Tumblr media
2. Does the language aspect get explored further past that one page in the novels?
This aspect has yet to be explored, referenced or even mentioned beyond the one paragraph listed above!
And this lack of an explanation is fascinating 📝 There is no line by Crowley of "Yes there is a translation spell on the island," or "Everyone who arrives through their respective gate is blessed by the Dark Mirror with the ability to understand and be understood," or anything at all!
We are not even given a hint that Crowley--or anyone--knows it is happening. All we have is the one thought from the perspective of a confused Yuuya trying to make sense of his situation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Why are their words getting translated and yet other phrases in other languages are not(Rook’s French)?
We do not know! đŸ„ł And Rook is not alone, with other characters occasionally using untranslated English-language words both in the game and novel (novel-Ace says "Thank you" in English, novel-Sam says "Hey," etc.)
Is it possible that the system does not replace words that the listener recognizes? Is Rook actually speaking French 100% of the time, but as the prefect recognizes words such as "oui" and beauté," they are not being filtered?
Tumblr media
4. What are your thoughts about this and do you know of any popular discourse surrounding this topic?
I found this thread on twstsoku where someone suggests that the cast all understands one another and it is only Yuuya who is having what he says and hears translated for him in real time.
Ideas from other commenters are:
Tumblr media
1. "Hypothetically, for example: If Esperanto, which is based on Latin, were used as the common language, and the translation magic worked depending on the native language's distance from it:
German speakers, Japanese speakers → translation needed (as determined by the magic)
Italian speakers → translation not very necessary (as determined by the magic)
French speakers → grammatically, translation is almost unnecessary (as determined by the magic), but their speech is the hardest to understand.
Something like that? Just an example, though."
Tumblr media
2. "Wasn't there a part in Ruggie's birthday outfit story where he said he memorized greetings in 10 different languages?"
And I found a similar thread from 2021 (before the novel was released) on this topic, where commenters were discussing whether or not Twst's common language is meant to be English:
1. "OP here, I personally don’t think it’s a common language with the real world, so I hadn’t considered it much.
But if it’s English, that means Twisted Wonderland has a geography and history similar to the real world, with just different country names, etc. I won’t go into too much detail, but English is a branch of the Germanic languages within the Indo-European family, and it contains a lot of words derived from neighboring Western European countries. So, it wouldn’t be English as we know it today unless they followed the same geographical and historical path.
Alternatively, it could be a wholly fantastical world without a history of its own, which just popped into existence one day.
Personally, I’d feel a bit disappointed with both ideas—either that Twisted Wonderland is exactly the same as the real world or that it just popped up suddenly. I’d prefer to think of it as a world with a different language."
2. "If we’re talking about the development of language, it’s not a coincidence that there’s food in Twisted Wonderland identical to what exists in the real world. If Twisted Wonderland is a mirror of our world, it wouldn’t be surprising if they walked a similar historical path."
Tumblr media
3. "That’s true! When you think about the design of their clothes, smartphones, and other scientific equipment, it makes sense. So either they followed a similar history, or we’re not meant to think too deeply about it as a fantasy world—those seem like the two options. Hmm, tough choice."
Tumblr media
4. "If there were translation magic, there would be no need to study animal linguistics."
Tumblr media
5. "Azul’s contract → written in English Words Rook sometimes uses → in French In Ghost Marriage, the opening of Rook’s poem is “I love you” → in Japanese The prefect understands the language → So, is there translation magic? Epel’s dialect isn’t understood → So, there isn’t translation magic?
It’s turning into a bit of a chaotic language situation."
Tumblr media
6. "In the beans event, there’s a part where Jamil’s bento is brought up and some says 'that's what they're called in other places,' so it seems pretty decided that there are different languages across regions. But maybe we’re not supposed to think too deeply about it."
--
These are all fascinating points! ^^ Epel is a particular outlier ashis original dialect is, by design, almost incomprehensible (on JP), but maybe whatever translation is going on just does not have his particular village's speech patterns loaded into it? 🧐
Or maybe as a "mirror" to the real world, everyone actually is using Japanese with the occasional English and French outliers, but the language itself is mirrored--they're speaking backwards--and the filter is merely putting words front-to-back for the prefect to understand? ^^ So many possibilities!

There was no "implication." What I was saying was that many people died horrible, unnecessary, unexpected, very preventable deaths directly linking to Trump's policies because Trump actively worked to undermine public health and safety constantly, and it's a lie to act like "everyone survived" the Trump administration. That's why I originally linked to this report which supported everything I said. This is nuance which was flattened out in OP's sneering screenshot.
Tumblr media
My grandmother's stroke didn't need to be fatal, she was just very poor and scared to seek medical care directly afterward because she knew she couldn't afford it, so she actively resisted going to the hospital at first. She died in her home a few days later and then it was sold to pay her medical bills. I can never go back home. My birth sister's "choice" to go back to work without doctor clearance shortly after terrible medical ordeals was driven by debt desperation, and she worked herself into the grave. My chosen sister worked in the overtaxed healthcare industry while Trump actively sought to gut people's access to healthcare, pushing herself constantly to help people while heavily pregnant, and she had a heart attack during a high risk pregnancy in a pandemic. Then her newborn daughter died as well. These people should have all survived the Trump administration.

Had a whole essay post on the change in public opinion on the kister document, and how even if the initial doc had plenty of issues (I agree there is transphobia/unnecessary screenshots/its messy) it doesn’t change the fact that it does still show dangerous behavior from Alex/the hurt caused to the victims is still very real (I should know. I’ve spoken to them and many friends of mine who were groomed, who said Alex’s behavior mirrored their abuser’s) but scrolling past posts that almost say verbatim how our “mindset of always believing victims is going to get a real victim to kill themselves” or some shit is actively rotting my brain.
Alex threatened suicide multiple times, as outlined in the doc, which is terrible behavior. The fact that she hasn’t done it already means she likely isn’t going to this time, so please get y’all’s brains fixed and realize that literally saying that believing victims is the problem is a batshit insane thing to say.
If somehow every single one of the like 8 people who came out with bad experiences with this guy lied about everything and every single screenshot is doctored and Alex is the real victim and all of his ex friends and fans want them dead, then great, i was wrong, a lot of us were wrong, and we all owe Alex a huge apology. But the truth is, those situations are incredibly rare and it’s fucking WEIRD how everyone ALWAYS jumps to that insane conclusion every time a victim isn’t perfect (or even bad. victims are allowed to be bad and still be victims). honestly, my opinion is that until more information comes out on both sides, we should all shut the fuck up and stop jumping to conclusions. It’s weird as fuck to go speculating into the lives of these random people you do not know.
This post has some incredible points about some of the issues in the document.

Tw for victim blaming under the cut, so you guys know that I’m not lying about the batshit stuff people are saying, too. Do not try to find or attack the OPs of these posts. If you do that, you suck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(PS: has anyone considered the likelihood that the reason the doc was so messy is because the victims were upset and angry over their treatment? And how minors, which a lot of people affected by him were, don’t tend to be the clearest or most perfect at sharing information? Emotions do not excuse bad behavior, but it is an explanation that I don’t think anyone really thought about. Even if the people Alex hurt were/acted shitty, it doesn’t mean Alex wasn’t also shitty.)

I was looking through your posts and I saw the screenshot of that person making a PSA they planned to gif Marius. I’m sorry but who the fuck cares? Why the fuck did she feel the need to make a public statement, like he’s a fucking fictitious character who cares? If people wanna reblog or repost gifs or even OP’s gifs they’re gonna do it. Why try to turn something so small into something. They ask for discourse. Like I feel like she purposely made that post in hopes of pissing someone off to engage with her, and in hopes of lighting a signal fire to other people who like that character. So unnecessary. Also
I have this feeling that if Marius is POC everyone that is now coming out of the woodworks to claim he is the “multi-layered complex thought provoking apex predator” they gonna go back to hating his ass. Only yt monster and predators can have this alleged ‘nuance’ they deem OTHER characters in the show have. At this rate if David Talbot shows up and is casted yt, he’s getting a rebirth. He’ll be the baddie they love to hate or some shit. Sorry this was lengthy.
(u never have to apologize for length, especially bcuz ur making some POINTS here)

Hux Crisis #2
I remarked yesterday that I was having another Hux crisis. (The first Hux crisis is documented a little bit here.) Basically, my Hux crises are caused by my personal understanding of him coming into apparent conflict with canon depictions. This also happened to me with Carlos the Scientist from Welcome to Night Vale. The situation isn't great; historically it has caused me to stop writing for a long time while I recalibrated my headcanons.
Because I'm hoping that won't happen this time, I originally wasn't going to discuss it too much, but then this morning I saw this post:
Tumblr media
When I saw this, I just felt like that it fit Hux so well. The idea that his family line might be cursed in some way, resulting in all his perceived failures, is narratively compelling to me. It made me want to write down my thoughts and feelings about Hux.
I didn't want to clutter up OP's notes with my nonsense, so I made a screenshot for this post. If you want to see/reblog the original, I reblogged it here.
Let's get into it.
We know JJ named Hux after a name he saw on a gravestone. He wanted Hux to be a tragic character from the beginning. And Hux was. We learned that he'd grown up being abused, and that it's likely he was stolen from his mother when he was taken/rescued from his home planet during the New Republic siege. And of course we saw the tragedy continue through the films:
The stormtrooper program wound up producing a Resistance general
Starkiller Base was destroyed
The Fulminatrix was destroyed
The Supremacy was destroyed
Kylo Ren became Supreme Leader
The First Order failed to wipe out the Resistance on Crait
And finally, Hux was found out as the spy and executed
It could be argued that many of these things were failures on Hux's part. The comics give us even more failures: in Journey to TLJ: Captain Phasma, he does not issue an official evacuation order when Starkiller Base begins to collapse, which enables Phasma to keep troopers who saw her from surviving to report it, and probably also resulted in unnecessary losses. He also seems not to question Phasma's version of how the shields were lowered on Starkiller. In Hyperspace Stories #8, which seems to be set pre-TFA, he loses control of a wild creature called a Bramalish that he set upon a non-cooperative colony.
I get chalking all of this up to incompetence, to thinking that Hux kept failing because he was stupid or prideful.
But we have evidence to the contrary.
Hyperspace Stories #8 also shows us Hux is quick to adapt to change. When Ren arrives to fight the Bramalish, Hux orders the stormtroopers to help him immediately. When Ren brings back the city leader whose cooperation will secure the First Order's power, Hux instantly adjusts to "negotiating with" (threatening) him. While I won't deny that setting a Bramalish loose believing the stormtroopers could contain it was a miscalculation, the strategy was to terrorize the populace, and it worked. That plus Ren's contributions scored the First Order a win.
In the comic Star Wars Adventures #30, set between TLJ and TROS, Hux's plan is to send stormtroopers to Vendaxa to follow a lead that the Resistance might be there. It's Supreme Leader Ren who insists on going personally. Hux goes with him because he sees an opportunity to ingratiate himself to Ren, and he actually manages to get Ren to say he has earned his trust, "for now." It turns out there was no need for the leader of the First Order to go to Vendaxa personally. The Resistance isn't even there, and Ren and Hux wind up in mortal danger. I think it can be safely argued that Hux was right, and circumstances (Kylo Ren) worked against him.
In that same comic, Hux tells Ren, "I put my stormtroopers in charge of reconnaissance because leadership is trusting the people you lead to do their jobs." The loss of the Fulminatrix seems ludicrous in light of these words. Canady stood around waiting to be micromanaged; Hux is not a micromanager. (I ranted about this separately here.)
And then, of course, we have Age of Resistance - General Hux, another pre-TFA story. This is not only where we see more of Hux's abusive childhood, but also where we see him at his craftiest. He uses Ren's identity to manipulate Bylsma, and then he uses the shuttle sabotage to justify killing one of his childhood abusers. From this, it's clear he's not an idiot.
Let's go through the other perceived failures with a more critical eye.
First, the stormtrooper program. Yes, it "failed" in that Finn resisted his conditioning, as did Jannah and her company. But what percentage of stormtroopers actually defected or deserted? How does it compare to other militaries' defection/desertion rates? Is it even possible to have 100% loyalty? While I don't think we know the answer to the first two questions, the answer to the third is absolutely no.
The destruction of Starkiller Base would not have been possible without the shield being lowered. Hux knew the oscillator was a weak point and had it protected, not just by shields but by squadrons of fighters. It took an extraordinary series of events for the Resistance to win.
Trusting Phasma is either a blind spot, or he's playing the long game, as fellow kyluxers pointed out on my original Hux crisis post. Phasma conspired with him to kill Brendol; this was in both their self-interests, not the First Order's. If anything, TLJ cemented their relationship as a partnership. It's not a stretch to think Hux knows Phasma's true loyalty is to herself, and that he considers having her as a partner more advantageous than not. It's a gamble, but she's a powerful ally. I've wondered if their conversation when she returns to the Finalizer is coded...if what Hux is really asking is how well she covered her tracks.
(The fact that he doesn't seem to dwell on the loss of Starkiller, either in the Captain Phasma comic or at the beginning of TLJ, and he just looks annoyed when it's brought up in TROS, implies that he is forward-thinking, which is a vital quality in a leader.)
Hux not managing to keep Ren from becoming Supreme Leader is understandable. He's ready to kill Ren, but Ren stirs. Hux knows he can't defeat Ren in a fight. And unfortunately, Hux has rarely been able to talk Ren into anything. This is the rare moment he breaks emotionally: he's lost Starkiller, he's lost the Supremacy, and now he's lost Snoke, the one thing that has been protecting him from Ren. I don't think his action or inaction here is indicative of his intelligence so much as his trauma.
The battle of Crait wasn't actually lost. It simply wasn't a total victory. And the reason wasn't Hux or his commands. It was Kylo Ren. Without Ren there, the First Order would have wiped the Resistance out.
Hux being found out as a spy was, I've always thought, at least partially because Finn shot him in the leg instead of the arm. You'd think an enemy would aim for the head or chest. The arm would have been a more believable miss location. But of course, it also happened because of Hux's choice to report the escape to Pryde himself instead of going to medbay and sending a subordinate. This one I can't find a good explanation for, except maybe that he thought he would seem more loyal if he went personally. (I like to think it was because he knew Pryde would shoot him, and he took advantage of that to fake his own death.)
I'm showing obvious bias here, but even I can admit Hux isn't flawless. He can make mistakes and succumb to emotions like any other human. I just believe, based on my understanding of canon, that not everything he did was a mistake. In fact, I'd argue that the majority of his failures were due to circumstances outside his control. It's tragic, like JJ intended.
Because of that, I think that cursed family line idea fits really well. Maybe Hux finds out about the curse just when he's on the verge of giving up, and it makes him try even harder out of spite. Could he break free of the curse? Or is he doomed, like every other Hux?

Anytime I see a post in which someone says "these (people I don't agree with) can't even make a phone call without getting anxious," I unfollow whoever reblogged it onto my dash. This isn't because I personally get anxious when I make phone calls. At one point in my life I did get anxious when making phone calls, but I got over this a long time ago and now I'm pretty confident on the phone.
The reason is because 1) 90% of the time OP doesn't know the people they're talking about and so they're just taking a guess in the hopes that it's true and it pisses these people off. 2) It's unnecessary to bring up. And 3) It's just mean-spirited.
Like I saw this again a couple weeks ago, but an example I can think of from a year or so ago was when dni-archive, a shitty Tumblr user who posts screenshots of people's bios to mock them, made a poll tournament for "most annoying tumblr user." Obviously this was horrible and shitty and faced backlash. I remember one user making a post about how shitty this was to do, but then said in the same post something like, "(dni-archive) can't even order food without getting anxious." And it's like ok, we don't even really know who this user is because they keep their identity anonymous (they don't even give a name on their blog). So saying this about them is like taking a shot in the dark and hoping it hits them.
It reminds me of how people used to say "people who harass others online are basement dwelling neckbeard losers who have no social lives," and how I saw a post on here many many years ago that pushed back on this saying how the reality is is that some people who harass others online have good social lives. They seem normal in person, they're liked among their coworkers, etc. But then they go online and make others feel like shit for fun. Similar to how abusers can be well liked people among their friends and with strangers, the same applies to people who harass others online.
So what's the point in guessing that shitty people online are bad at socializing IRL so as to insult them? Why not just point out their shitty behavior? It just seems unnecessary. It always makes me think that the OP isn't confident enough in saying "this person is mean-spirited to other people online for no good reason" or in some cases "these people leaving these specific comments have bad opinions and here's why." The OP feels the need to make up an insult to prove their point. It's like if you said "this person's behavior sucks, and also they're probably ugly," about an online user who never posts selfies.
Also the people I've followed in the past who reblog these posts making these insults also reblogged posts that say "We shouldn't conflate attractiveness to how morally good someone is," and "Any time you insult the appearance of some asshole you don't like, you hurt those you care about who share similar physical traits." And it's like, I don't understand why they don't apply those concepts to how well someone socializes. Socialization is easier to change than one's appearance for most people, but it still doesn't make sense to imply that how well someone socializes correlates to how morally good they are. And wow I think that last sentence was one of the most autistic sentences I've ever written.
Anyways it's just mean-spirited for no good reason, but unfortunately I feel like you can't say "saying this thing is mean-spirited for no good reason" and be taken seriously on Tumblr.

Okay, yeah... I thought so...

fascinated by the amount of replies to that post that dont understand the whole "talking in the tags" thing
Tumblr media
like i get it, the actual reblog comment box SEEMS like it would make the most sense. and it does make tumblr seem less focused on talking to people (it kinda is, bc that's not the main feature of the site, it's not a standard social media)... but it quickly causes a problem on big posts bc of the way reblogs are structured. you end up with posts like:
[joke]
HAHA XD
OMG! LOL!
[commentary on the joke]
WHOA that's crazy
omg who knew :0
[commentary on the commentary]
[the part of the post you actually want to reblog]
---
tags are a great place to put unnecessary comments, the OP or anyone who wants to publicly respond can simply screenshot/copy them and @ you for a discussion if they want
that doesnt really happen on twitter for example, where reply chains get condensed and QRTs will only show you one tweet back, requiring you to click on the tweet chain for additional context. and im not familiar with reddit tbh, but im pretty sure replies also get condensed to their own little corner
the fundamental difference is that tumblr is a BLOGGING site, you just end up with really long blog posts that obliterate someone's dash. so it's common courtesy to leave things that maybe are more personal or not really deserving of their own post to the tags where they stay on YOUR blog instead of going on the blog of anyone who reblogs from you

(Long post ahead, reposting a reblog I made and ended up deleting because OP was an anti. Placing a "keep reading" after the repost before getting into new info. Post is screenshot heavy, and such not compatible with screen readers. I do not have energy to transcribe alt text right now.)
So anyways, there are antis in the Pico's School fandom.
I love the ship picandra (Pico x Cassandra), it's super hot, but apparently there are antis shaming it. (What don't antis shame?)
Tumblr media
I'm not sharing OP's tags this time so it isn't as easy to find them. But the jist is that Pico isn't some pure hero, he's an anti hero. And it isn't canon that Pico has any trauma because of Cassandra. They express frustration with antis trying to demonize people who enjoy hero x villain ships.
This was my response before I deleted my post:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'd also like to add that antis, as well as this post, are focusing on whether or not this ship is problematic due to Pico being a victim being a victim of Cassandra attacking the school. Not once does anyone mention the fact that the characters are 10 years old in their source material and that "it would be disgusting to ship 10 year olds and imagine children dating and kissing when 10 year olds would be doing nothing more than holding hands." I bring this up because of how OP then went and behaved in the comments of their post. Throwing a huge fit when a proshipper tried to inform them of what proship means.
Blue is OP, light blue is whenever they replied directly to the proshipper they were arguing against (not me), and purplish white are buzzwords creating very serious accusations against proshippers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Any further comments from OP on their post were missing too much context due to the other side of the conversation being deleted. And such won't be commented on.
It's horribly ironic that they went on about pedophilia and their hatred for underage ships, when this post originated from a ship consisting of two 10 year olds. And on top of that, if their argument on proshipping being bad is because the dynamics of problematic ships are harmful and affect reality, then sorry to say, in my opinion as a proshipper is that Picandra is a comship. Even if Pico wasn't traumatized by Cassandra's attack on the school, she still caused irreversible damage to his life. She killed all his classmates and teacher. She is an alien who used emotionally insecure goth kids to kill humanity with no regard to the lives of her allies. She canonically couldn't give a shit about Pico, let alone be interested in him. In turn, after the attack, Pico had become a serial killer hitman that is very aggressive and closed off emotionally. If these two were to engage in a relationship, it would be toxic and abusive as all hell on both ends. But I guess that's fine because it doesn't disgust you personally. So it can't possibly be morally corrupt or questionable.
I do not plan on making a habit out of indirectly replying to anti bullshit on this level. I've already made sure OP is blocked and thus unable to see this post. The existence of my rebuttal points are more for the sake of getting my own frustrations out, practice making points against a real example rather than a hypothetical strawman, as well as providing a source of positivity for other proshippers who have dealt with this or other antis like the one featured above.
If you manage to find OP, do not harass them, send them hate, or even send 'helpful information'. A person like this is not in the right mindset to learn, and such trying to rebut them any further will only cause unnecessary stress and may cause them to root themselves more into the anti mindset.

i’m mad about something that’s pointless to say in the original thread so i’m posting it here
i know people are cautious about unvetted fundraisers and that’s why people will reverse image search while it’s being vetted to see if the photos are stolen since that’s a known thing scammers do. but i fucking saw an “important addition” to a now-vetted gfm where someone in the tags said “all photos except the last one are original according to reverse image search”. person who said that was merely stating facts and clearly was trying to persuade the readers that it was a real fundraiser. Someone with less pure intent screenshot the tags and said “if you’re not comfortable sharing or donating to non vetted campaigns, you can donate to organizations or buy esims” which to me very much sounded like implication that the campaign might not be real because one (1!) of the 10+ photos wasn’t op’s own
The last picture of the post in question? It was of her destroyed school. The rubble is miles away from where she is taking refuge, and it would be incredibly impractical, unsafe, retraumatizing, and a waste of time/energy to go back to photograph it herself, so she did the horrible egregious sin (/s) of using a photo from a news article reporting on the bombing.
The tagger was obviously trying to emphasize her reliability and the likelihood that it was a real campaign. But some self righteous dolt took their words, wrapped it in a layer of white anxiety, and ran with it.
If your school or alma mater was bombed and you had to rely on strangers to flee a war zone, i fucking bet you’d use the wikipedia photo of your school, or the photo on the front page of its website, or maybe an instagram picture from 3+ years ago, as the before. and you’d certainly use a journalist’s photo for the after. Because it’s common sense that you wouldn’t take unnecessary risks when your life is already in danger every moment of the day. So why the hell is it so difficult to apply that same logic to Palestinians? Is it because you can’t apply human rationality and cognition to people you see as subhuman? Is it because you don’t understand that other people aren’t NPCs?
Less than a week later it was vetted.

I know a bunch of people are making way more helpful beginner’s guides to tumblr but for anyone who may be making the leap during the Reddit exodus here’s my two cents:
try following friends first. get the hang of how reblogging functions and of all the posting features. if you use desktop add an xkit extension and use their quick reblog. change your header and profile and title from the default. consider not using an unstylized picture of yourself as a profile; anonymity is valued here (though of course, coming from reddit, I’m sure you understand.)
curate your own dash. follow people who post about things you’re interested in, follow friends, follow friends of friends, unfollow anyone at any time if you notice that their posts are not for you. don’t feel obligated to follow certain people just to participate in certain corners of the internet. if they really have so much good shit to say, it’ll probably make its way over to you eventually. the trending and for you pages are kind of useless and serve best as an occasional peek into a funhouse mirror version of the internet you thought you knew.
don’t overuse the add-to-reblog comment feature. if there’s additional commentary you want to share with your audience, that’s what tags are for! it shows up in the poster and previous reblogger’s notifications just the same. somewhere down the line someone might see your tags and decide to append them to the main post. we affectionately refer to this process as “peer review,” because once something has been added to a reblog any further iterations of the post will include that addition so it’s really just a way of saying said commentary adds to the post in a way that is not exclusive to your own audience.
that said if you do feel you have additional context or a necessary perspective to add to a post and you deliberately want to attach it, don’t be afraid to say your piece. people can reblog it or ignore it if they like, that’s their business.
if you disagree with the contents of a post, try not to do a discourse about it. If it seems like well-intended misinformation, you can add a correction with a source, or whatever additional context you feel is necessary for anyone who may not know better. any questions about what the post really means or follow-up is maybe best directed towards op’s ask box, as the narrative of reblog threads can get lost in the notifs tab. don’t be argumentative, don’t make assumptions; this is the internet. nobody on here gets an editor to make sure their words are framed exactly as they intended. if you really feel like being negative take a screenshot of the offending section, redact op’s url and any tagged or visible accounts, and make your own post. we all want to just tear into something from time to time and disagreements are a part of life. but try to avoid unnecessary conflict, it’s neither fun nor productive for any party.
if you see someone being a bigot block them. don’t dunk on them, don’t send them anon hate, don’t argue against them in the reblogs. there’s no algorithm on this site and nothing spreads without people spreading it. the best way to stop vitriol is to disengage.
block anyone. block people for being hateful bigots, block people for being annoying. block people for trying to start discourse on your posts even if you feel bad about it. if you start thinking to yourself wow, my life would be just a little bit better if this person couldn’t see my posts and I couldn’t see theirs, block them. block me for being preachy. block your best friend of six years bc they’re spamming your dash with their untagged spongebob liveblog and then dunk on them in your 20 person discord server.
treasure your mutuals but don’t feel like you have to be following people to be friends. tumblr dms are busted as hell just send someone an ask instead unless it’s that private. the search function does not work. polls are new and we’re all still constructing the etiquette of those together, but so far they’re mostly a vehicle for pitting characters against each other chunin exams style. ignore any part of this post that you don’t want to listen to I am legitimately not the boss of you. make your own truth go crazy drink water have fun.

Saw a post today that made a good point but the op kept adding screenshots of tags/comments to say that mspec lesbians were not a valid label and that it was terf rhetoric to use those terms. And while yes, there was a terf argument that lesbians who date transwomen are really just bisexual/mspec, the term bi/pan lesbian is also used by people who are bisexual and also women or women/sapphic aligned non-binary people. Bi/pan women calling themselves bi/pan lesbians doesn’t mean that lesbians (people who use lesbian to describe themselves) are attracted to men or that lesbians who date trans women are bi/pan lesbians.
I don’t personally use bi lesbian to describe myself but imo it should be considered a valid label. Just because terfs have tried to weaponize it to further their own transphobia does not make the term inherently transphobic. Especially since the main problem with terfs weaponizing it was that they claimed every lesbian attracted to amab women/lesbians is mspec, not that mspec people exist.
I can see how some people would consider bi/pan lesbian to be a lesbophobic term because it includes people who are attracted to men. I think it depends however if you define lesbian more as any person who experiences wlw attraction or if you define it more as women who aren’t attracted men (the difference being one defines lesbianism by a lack of interest in men and the other defines it by interest in women). I personally don’t see a reason to exclude mspec women from the term lesbian or from lesbian spaces as there is more we have in common than things that are different. Additionally, unless mspec lesbians are entering lesbian spaces just to talk about their attraction to men or otherwise hijacking resources/spaces then I don’t see why it would even be an issue except that some people want to police the use of labels/identities when there is no actual harm being caused.
Additionally, mspec women have historically been part of lesbian spaces and there is significant evidence of this. So if your argument is based on “lesbian has never included people who experience attraction to men” then that’s not a valid argument either because they have always shared spaces.
Again, this is my opinion as a bi woman so if lesbians want to tell me that actually mspec lesbians taking over lesbian spaces to talk about non lesbian related topics is a huge issue then by all means correct me, but otherwise this seems like a non issue and the dogpiling/harassment or labelling as a terf of people I’ve seen against people who support mspec lesbians seems counterproductive and unnecessary to me.

to the prev anon: i'm literally what people would call a "febfem" but even i'm not blind to the bullshit bi people (esp bi women!) go through. that poll was unnecessary and the screenshot op provided basically proves that bi women are seen as dirty and disgusting unless they become female exclusive, which is very misogynistic. being a separatist/feb/celibate is a huge decision that shouldn't be taken lightly, but that doesn't make it okay to be sexist to women who aren't any of those. i will always stand by my bi sisters even if she's with men.

These might send out of order but can we PLEASEEEEEE stop lying and pretending like Euzi spammed the Soul RL winner's comment box when it was super obvious from the comments that wasn't true (they were all very clearly parts of a conversation)!
you act like this changes the fact that the first few were unnecessary, accusatory, and bitchy. the player himself LITERALLY STATED the comments he was getting made him wary of the game. it’s the player’s lion, they can do whatever they want with it, and euzi couldn’t handle that, clearly. i wasn’t either of the euzi OPs because i don’t even know the guy and i still think this was shitty af to do.
nobody lied, nobody made anything up, they deadass just said “euzi left several mean comments on the soul rl winner’s page” (nothing about spamming!) and you sent screenshots of that exact thing, calling them liars. i usually never post here but this was such a ridiculous ask i couldn’t help myself lol. you like the taste of bootleather?

2 3 7 11 & 12?
‌ theres some suggestive to downright implicative shit going on in this one (due to the nature of the first question) watch out ‌
2. a compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom
it deleted my entire thang i have to type it.again hold on
ok this is a tough one. because i have like. insane people thoughts on faust guilty gear and sexuality mostly revolving around his canonical masochism and how that intersects with his atonement complex and his profession.
I Do Not Think Faust Tops In The Ways People Think He Would, Usually. theres been an exception or two where i understand fully where OP is coming from and it feels like they understand both why hes desirable and how he would wish to be desired rather than just wanting a size difference “”monsterfucker qualifier“” character to jump after. but these are exceptions in an already rare enough situation.
I Think He COULD Top If He Wanted To Though. talking pre-strive i imagine he could be caring about it but i think sex with him in a more traditional sense would lack closeness. i think there are some things you can only strip bare from him if you get a little weird. i have conflicting thoughts on the common placement of him in a sort of medicalplay or “sex as treatment” scenario where i think the only way it would be Truly intimate and not just him using his body as an extension of his profession without much care to his own physicality and such would be like. I don't know bro you have to get a little weird with him! am i even allowed to talk about fausts canonical masochism on tumblr dotcom.
TLDR there should be more serious character exploration of pre-strive faust and how he expresses himself as a vessel for servicing others and how that interlocks with his self-proclaimed “shameful” masochistic desires and the freedom that only actual selfishness in this regard can give him. and there should also be more exploration of sexuality with post-strive faust because You motherfuckers cannot be that afraid of him. If you already want his kidney scraper so goddamn bad you can care for him a little bit more.
What happened I blacked out.
3. screenshot or description of the worst take you’ve seen on tumblr
if this was on twitter (so many people are weird about faust there) or ao3 (i dont want to ask triptych_triptych_triptych why they're so mad that guilty gear doesnt show faust and may experiencing anti-asian racism as a result of 9/11, which did not happen in the guilty gear universe, because id rather not read another word of their pseudointellectual nonsense parading their lack of media literacy and completely unnecessary self-flagellation as Real Transsexual Art) i would have perhaps worse things to send but here you go
Tumblr media
this post was so long and disgustingly descriptive while saying pretty much nothing at all. when i sent this to my friends to complain about i blur-stretched everything past the first couple lines in mspaint because i think looking at it unfiltered in the future (like now) would make me literally fucking tremble with rage and i have forgotten OPs url. i hope i blocked them but i have the memory of an ant. you only really need the first few lines to know this post is insanely bad. and this isnt a dig on it for being a Sex Post. i just think if youre the kind of rinse and repeat nothingburger blog whose entire outwards appearance is that of a postironic "im not like the other channies" 4channer who thinks theyre hot shit because theyre over 20 and Not Afraid To Say Slurz you probably shouldnt touch guilty gear because without love it cannot be seen and you desperately need to find love for yourself before you touch ky kiske again. ok
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
i really dont want to say bidget. i love bidget. bidget is a reminder of self love and discovery, of living and growth and understanding and all that shit. i look at her in-game or i listen to the town inside me and i think about that time daisuke said smth in that interview that amounted to “i make a lot of guilty gear characters because i want underrepresented people to see a vision of happiness for themselves“.
but oh my god nobody that Posts Her seems to get it. all i see are the same tired memes and using her as just boring-ass iconography. claiming that she SHOULD be more popular than the Mean Brown Protagonist because shes a transgender white woman who has a side-part in the main plot. like holy shit im SO grateful shes here and that They Fixed Her but oh my god dude ive genuinely heard more than one person say that they were glad that she seemed like the protagonist more than sol.
11. number of fandom-related words you’ve filtered
my only filtered tags are Goncharov (just didnt find it funny but not in an offensive way and wanted to let everyone have their fun) and umineko spoilers but back when i was a moreso mentally unwell teenager i had like every variant of zato-1 muted that i could possible come up with. i would say i dont know what was wrong with me but i was like 17 and going through some things.
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
I THOUGHT YOU GUYS LOVED TWINKS WHERES THE ADORATION AND CARE FOR MY GOOD FRIEND ZAPPA GUILTY GEAR!! not only is he, on a surface and aesthetic level, sooooooo kyute but i think hes genuinely very gripping. he had to be stronger for himself than i think he shouldve ever had to be and i kinda wish we got a light novel chronicling him trying to dispel the ghosts before landing his government job or something like that.
