more bright cousin au stuff. one time in the dead of night zakri sets up all of unnamed kiv's streaming shit and does an impromptu stream. the entire time he badly pretends that he is unnamed kiv afterward he erases as much of the evidence of this as possible and unnamed kiv only finds out like a year later because they found the vod unofficially uploaded on youtube. the reason unnamed kiv doesn't find out about any of this shit sooner is because their subscribers have developed a culture of staying quiet about zakri's bullshit because it's really fun to see how long they can keep unnamed kiv in the dark

MCYT Eras Concept
For a long time, I've thought of MCYT as divided into different eras. I've finally decided to refine the idea and write it out. I feel it's a good way to define things, rather than just "old school" and "modern", as the bar for each of those have shifted drastically over time. Please do note that a lot of how I describe these eras is mostly from my own perspective, but I do think the overall divisions work well for MCYT as a whole!
Era 1 - The "OG" Era (2009 - 2011)
The beginning of Minecraft and MCYT. Much content at this point was traditional lets plays, simple tutorials and showing off early innovations in redstone.
Era 2 - The "Classic" Era (2012 - 2014)
This era encompasses what is often considered the peak of many iconic "old school" groups and series. Team Crafted, Mindcrack, the various Yogscast Tekkit series, and many, many more.
It's difficult to describe everything that made up the classic era in a succinct manner. It was the true rise of SMPs, Adventure Maps, Minecraft Animations, Parodies, Mod Reviews, MCRP, and so, so much more. Minecraft was unavoidable on YouTube back then.
Era 3 - The "Gap" Era (2015 - 2017)
The "gap" era is named for the lull in MCYT's popularity. In this period of time, it was seen more as a niche, compared to the massive popularity it saw before and after.
This era saw the "death", or at least massive dips in popularity to many formerly wildly popular groups and ccs, as viewers interests changed and moved onto other things.
Many series came and went during this era, but weren't properly appreciated until after their time.
Era 4 - The "Revival" Era (2018 - 2019)
This era, due to a combination of many factors, was MCYT's return to mainstream. Many people returned to both singleplayer series and servers. Episodic SMPs old and new such as Hermitcraft and Truly Bedrock, began experimenting more with the lines between gameplay, story and improv.
This era also saw the rise of streaming based series, such as SMPLive, SMPEarth, and Minecraft Monday.
Era 5 - The "Lockdown" Era (2020 - 2022)
Much of this era is defined by the new heights reached during covid lockdowns. This era kicked dozens if not hundreds of the careers of those who grew up watching MCYT during the OG and Classic eras.
This era is admittedly very defined by the DSMP, rocketing MCYT and specifically MCRP into a level of popularity unseen before. Second, and as just as important to this era is MCC, bringing together so many personalities from all over the MCYT sphere who otherwise would likely have never interacted on a monthly basis.
A massive innovation in this era was also the introduction of the Simple Voice Chat mod to many servers, now a staple of most multiplayer content.
Era 6 - The Current Era (2023 - Present)
Unnamed as of yet, as it is still ongoing, the current era of MCYT has so far been defined by not only the continued rise of many smaller, younger MCYTs. But largely, and undoubtedly, by the QSMP.
Not only has it redefined what an SMP can be through its gameplay. It has brought the international MCYT community is closer together now than ever, crossing language and cultural barriers previously rarely touched.
---
This concept of mine isn't fully solidified, and is up to be more refined. I would love to hear y'all's thoughts and feedback about these divisions and the idea overall!

inspired by the new minecraft movie trailer and how it reminds me of a shit jumanji, here is my take on the minecraft plot. this took me like 5-10 minutes, so it's not super serious.
I actually want to try spitballing a better plot in about five minutes-
Unnamed Man in Blue and Unnamed Woman in Green wake up in a forest and meet each other while exploring. Anyway, the Plot is killing the ender dragon. Why? It's the most basic thing about minecraft. The achievement is literally called "free the end" so maybe flesh out why. So, the plot is Gather Materials, Find Stronghold, Defeat Ender Dragon, and the end scene is them looking out into the world and talking about going on other adventures. In the movie they come across a variety of monsters, but specifically a Warden and Wither. The Warden could be a genuinely scary chase scene where they don't kill it. Maybe they have to summon the wither as part of a beacon fetch quest.
The movie has lots of references to minecraft community things. minecraft youtubers and developers act as cameos in people they meet. "don't dig straight down" is on a sign near a cave/town's quarry. Maybe they find books similar to those survival guides i saw in all the scholastic book fairs. Have someone hum Don't Mine At Night or go "awww man" when a creeper explodes. Have a reclusive but friendly town of "hermits" (hermitcraft). maybe you pass by someone saying "the aether is just a conspiracy/myth!" just, things the community of all ages will recognize and go "hey! the thing!"
other:
They decide on the names Steve and Alex themselves, idk when though. The nicknames of Green and Blue between them can stick around. Also while i'm here, idc about romance. have them be friends, or partners by the end, or implied whatever.
I want Steve and Alex to have a personality but also have a generic backstory for the "blank slate" appeal and function of their in-game selves. I have a couple ideas- amnesia or being an everyday person, for example. maybe they are orphans, idk. Waking up in a forest is all i'm set on because that could be the equivalent of "spawning in."
I also have a fun idea where it could be an entirely implied Isekai. ("implied" is the keyword because it's never admitted and the only canonical dimensions are the nether, overworld, and end.) Not like the movie, where you aparently watch them get Isekai-ed, but with how they react to Tree Physics, magic, monsters, etc. and people going "you're not from around here, are you" and/or "how do you not know what X is? have you been living under a rock?" (which would then introduce the audience to minecraft concepts and exposition.)
they live in a "post-age of heres" world where it could be implied that the Old People who build all the strongholds and shit are long dead and they disappeared going after the dragon. this immediately puts an added sense of danger to the quest. also an underdog story.
i also would like a reason WHY Blue and Green can defeat the dragon while the others can't beyond "they are the main characters." this could be the new thing the movie brings in, like a new enchantment or making netherite something the Old People didn't have but necessary? idk, this could go into "movie-verse" logic and doesn't necessarily have to be in-direct canon to the game.
you know those characters that minecraft made a while ago? like the different races and genders? those skins could be characters in the movies.
the soundtrack does have the most popular minecraft sounds, in-game sound effects are used, but maybe some "movie remixes" or maybe they pay and jump through hoops to have Revenge playing for the end Credits.
also this is all animated. embrace animation.

OCs in Fandom
This is something I've been thinking about more but why is the DSMP and MCYT fandoms specifically more OC repulsed than other fandoms?
Like this is a very strange trend I've noticed where when I introduce an unnamed, unimportant character meant to fill a role (usually to die or get droned in Aurelia's case) why does everyone ask "oh who was that btw?" or "ooo I wonder who this character was! You said she was a woman so she has to be one of these select few characters from the series!" Like. No? No that's not how that works.
In every other fandom I've been in I see art and stories surrounding the OCs that people make. Original Characters with their own powers and abilities, their own relationships to the canon characters. OCs made to fill roles in stories that other characters in canon simply cannot fill because they already have a role in the story somewhere else or because it wouldn't make sense.
This is a behavior that is present in a lot of fandoms. Especially in places like BNHA (the fandom I was in before DSMP). But for some reason not here? And I find that weird.
I'm not judging anyone for this btw I just find it strange because us viewers are CANON to a lot of MCYT mediums. My friend @emi-writings pointed out that the viewers are CANON to the DSMP. We were the ones who voted in the L'manburg election. We are The Voices in Techno's head. We're Phil's flock of crows.
And when you think about it we're canon to other MCYT mediums too. Any time "chat" is brought up in lore, that's us. Any time our suggestions make it into our favorite series and becomes part of the lore? That's us. We're here. We're existing. We're canon.
So why aren't there more OCs? I'd expect a lot more of them seeing how we are quite literally canon.
And yeah, there are a lot of characters to pull from in these mediums so maybe the need for OCs to fill plot points in our fics aren't as needed. But sometimes they are? And I find it so strange that they're kinda frowned upon or not normalized because you go to any other fandom and sometimes you can't tell an OC apart from an actual character in the lore!
In YWNTMBAH, for example, I wanted to give the readers more insight into Quackity's backstory in the AU. And so I decided I wanted to introduce a small handful of OCs as his family because I couldn't lean into the generally accepted family (head?)canon of Sam being his father because Sam already had a role in the fic. And I had already established that Quackity got his shrike wing power from his mother and there's not 'mother' character in that specific family canon. So what am I to do? Make OCs.
Right now I'm considering making a Minecraft Diaries AU as my next major multichapter fic. But Diaries has so many characters with very specific roles that half the cast of the DSMP is pretty much useless to me because they don't fit into these roles I need. Obviously a Diaries AU wouldn't be one to one because the characters are different with different personalities and temperaments, it's a completely different setting I'm throwing the DSMP characters into. But I also don't want to use certain characters unless I absolutely have to especially when the DSMP cast is so large I don't even know the lore and personalities of half the characters. And hell, some of the people whitelisted on the DSMP never even participated in lore or were just there and didn't really roleplay so I wouldn't use them to begin with. The answer here is to use OCs. In any other fandom everyone would tell you to just make some OCs to fill the roles you need or use the characters that were already present in Diaries (which isn't something I'd want to do because I want to create an AU not a crossover).
But for some reason in this fandom that's just...not a thing? Or at least that isn't a thing most people would recommend or do because I rarely see it. And readers will look at some unnamed, undescribed character, and assume I intended for it be someone in the DSMP cast. Had a specific character in mind for it.
And...no. No I didn't. That's just some dude that Wilbur killed. That's just some random ass hero Quackity plucked out of the cell to experiment on. That's just a character meant to fill out the world and make it feel more alive.
I guess the point of this really is just...make OCs more normalized in this fandom? Like it's not everyone's thing obviously and you don't have to if you don't want to. If someone in the DSMP cast fits the role you need then hey, less work for you as the writer, right?
And I'm not saying that this is a huge problem or anything because it's not. There are other people that do use OCs as writing tools or hell, collectively accepted OCs that the comment section of a fic will adopt because the concept of there being this one specific dude everyone bullies is funny. I remember a fic being inspired by YWNMTBAH and it was a story about someone's OC that they made and I thought it was cool as hell that my fic inspired someone to make an OC!
But I just think everyone should be more aware that it's okay and normal to make OCs in fandom. Hell, my take on Wilbur, Sally, and Sapnap are all pretty much OCs at this point. I made the Fridge an actual character with the help of Em. Me and Double added OCs in Arsonist's Waltz to fill out the DSMP Pantheon more because it wasn't explored enough in canon.
I think we should have more OCs. I think it should be normalized. I think the general expectation shouldn't be that every last character mentioned in the story is someone in canon. OCs are a really useful fanfiction writing tool and they aren't even hard to make really! You don't even have to name some of them! I never gave Q's parents in YWNTMBAH names, just descriptions! Half of Wilbur and Quackity's drones in Aurelia are unnamed OC characters they just yoinked off the streets!
OCs are things you can pour a lot of time into, give backstories, give cool concepts. But they can also just be easy writing tools when you need to kill something off but don't want to use one of your more major characters. They can just be there, chilling, making your world more alive and more full.
Because not every viable character in the canon cast can be used for the roles you need.

Hello everyone would y'all like to hear about the hit AU (with 0 content so far outside of my own mind and the mind of a friend) known as MCSMMMMMM? [pronounced Minecraft Story Mode Mode Mode Mode Mode Mode]
What started as a single joke spiraled into a need to make a crack-taken-seriously kinda story, except now it's less "crack" and more "taken seriously," at least in my brain
(I apologize in advance for all the writing. TL;DR: Six Jesse's. Rewritten characters. Canon gayness. At least one therian. Hopefully unproblematic disability rep. The pig doesn't die for dramatic effect.)
To start off, the comical name comes from the fact that there are six Jesse's! All with very slightly different spellings of the same name, all with the same unnamed father but each one coming from different mothers, all also unnamed.
Unfortunately, due to the increased number of cast members... two Jesse's replace Axel and Olivia. I know, it sucks, I love them too, but let's be honest, even the games forget they exist past episode 4. We can all pretend they still exist in the MCSMMMMMM universe, they're just... off living that quiet cottagecore domestic life ig. Nothing will be confirmed though.
Lukas and Petra still exist though! Lukas will date an m!Jesse who also happens to have a congenital amputation (born amputee) on one leg. Petra will date an f!Jesse who is verbally mute but is fluent in Builder Sign Language. [did I mention the "humans" in MCSMMMMMM are called Builders? They are called Builders. That is their species XD]
Some people aren't just "humans" either, such as the white f!Jesse who will be part piglin! Though her siblings will assume she is part pig for quite some time before understanding the truth. Reuben guessed the whole time, but it's not like he could just say that. I do fully expect him to become injured in episode 4, but he is NOT going to poof into a porkchop corpse, I promise. I don't have any current plans to kill him off at all, actually. He's a sweet bby and deserves to be happy. Also I want him to meet Lluna.
I am also VERY open to suggestions from the rest of the fandom on how to make this story better! I want to listen to everyone's biggest complaints and praises so I can get the right idea about what direction to take if I ever do start writing this all down! MCSM deserves only the best and we shall provide <3
If anyone has any questions at all, I can also do my best to answer them accordingly! So far most of my ideas are for season 1 but I have a few things planned for season 2 and onward as well~

BREAKING NEWS
TW for DOMESTIC ABUSE
Tumblr media
So it has been recently confirmed that the abuser of Minecraft YouTuber shubble is Wilbur soot!
Wilbur is a Minecraft YouTuber that was very popular in 2020 playing a role in the now completed DSMP lore/streams and now recently qsmp. Shubble has came out and talked about her abuse with a former ex. And about how he bite her until it hurt and left bruises. And many more. Such as ignoring safe words. Up until now the identity of said ex was unnamed which left many fans speculating who the ex was.
Some folks on TikTok put some pieces together and accused Wilbur of being said abuser. But since it wasn’t many. Many of Wilbur’s fans of came to his defense BUT as if today 5 hours (in my time) ago Wilbur posted an apology to his Twitter explaining his side of the story. And basically admitting to his actions
Which I will show here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After this apology it confirmed Wilbur to be the abuser. And with the following YouTubers such as tubbo and Aimsey have stated that they both stand with shubble.
And how is shubble doing in all of this? Well form her words she said that she is “suing a person that person is most likely Wilbur soot.
(I send all my love to shubble and any victim of domestic violence. And if this shows us anything, it’s that abusers come in all shapes and sizes, anyone is capable of being an abuser even if they don’t look harmless. So if you are a victim don’t be afraid. And most importantly love your fucking selfs and stay safe)
-with some stuff still coming out I will be updating this post as much as can
UPDATE
So with the following of Wilbur’s…not so great some might even say BAD(I’m some) apology many of YouTubers as well as well as Wilbur’s friends or shitting on him even billzo who was been gone from the internet for a while. So yeah it’s that bad…
But YouTubers such as Quackity and tommyinit has not made their statements on the matter
(But as a person I feel really fucking bad for Tommy, considering that was his best friend. So it might take some time)
ANYWAYS, Shelby (shubble) has stated that his apology is NOT ACCEPTED!
BUT ONTO ANOTHER TOPIC
some former fans of Wilbur’s band “love joy” has a one burning question.
“Does this mean I can’t listen to it?”
In my personal opinion. Get better music taste BUT HEY who Am I to judge 🤷
BUT if we’re disregarding my opinion . I’d have to say listen to it in a way love joy (specifically Wilbur) cannot profit from it.

blog intro!!
hi all! my name is sol, my pronouns are he/xe/it and this is going to be my general, writing-centric blog!
i'm very new to tumblr as a whole, but i've been itching to show my writing to a larger audience so a good friend of mine encouraged me to make a blog here.
some info about me:
i've been writing for 10-11 years now
i rp on occasion and have been doing so for about 3 years
i play dnd, an assortment of roblox games (namely doors, pressure, and phantom forces), ultrakill, and i'm a sucker for horror media
as for what i write, most of my content centers around two main writing projects and their core oc's, as well as whatever au's i've come up with over time.
a lot of my writing assumes some knowledge of the characters involved as i usually write for an audience of approximately 3 people, but under the cut i'll include some basic info to help out strangers! (once i figure out how tumblr works, i'll also add links to more in-depth intro posts for each character.)
spindle / uriel
essentially an adaptation of an ongoing rp i'm doing with my girlfriend! it's heavily based off a minecraft modpack we played on for a bit, but also includes some original elements.
in short, it follows spindle, an arachnid traveler on a journey to the end. they meet up with uriel, a fallen angel who eventually accompanies them on the trip—unwillingly at first, but eventually they grow close.
spindle's intro post
uriel's intro post placeholder
adam / nightfall
another project that's still in progress! this story follows adam, a simple country boy living in rural arkansas—and then what happens when he encounters a rogue lab experiment, accidentally snared in his backyard.
adam's intro post placeholder
nightfall's intro post
other projects/characters i might mention
d&d - i'm in 3 campaigns currently and my characters have a special niche in my head
unnamed writing/worldbuilding thing - a larger-scale project taking place in a future world ravaged by war. heavily inspired by phantom forces on roblox but it's mostly my own developments. it's about 50% scifi, 50% fantasy adjacent. i made an entire magic system. help me

Writing Interview Tag!
Getting tagged and getting to respond is super fun so thank you @aintgonnatakethis !
About me
When did you start writing?
I started writing using word when I was 9, but I've been drawing and creating stories long before that. The first ideas I ever came up with was a pamphlet for a basic horror movie that I made up, but my most influential work was "Limbo". Loosely based around my dreams I created a story that tied them all together.
Are there different genres or themes you enjoy reading other than the ones you write?
Occasionally non-fiction. Mostly Self-help books for inspiration (recommended by my father) and this one that I've read called Prisoners of Geography that goes over the way that geography has effected the real world through Geo-politics. (I thought it would be neat and might help me come up with new ideas for my book but it just ended up being king of interesting on its own)
Is there an author you want to emulate, or are compared to often?
I've not yet been compared to any authors. Emulate someone? I'm not sure. But I would like to be someone like Rick Riordan; he's very wholesome, has a great community, and has written a lot of great books. I'd just like to cater to an older audience.
Can you tell me a bit about your writing space?
I usually write in my bedroom. I have plenty of space and it was originally a gaming set up but now I've been playing less video games and used this space to focus mostly on school work and writing. If I am away then I'll bring my IPad, or when I was in school I'd chip away at my work using the laptop they gave us.
What’s your most effective way to muster up a muse?
Fixing mistakes. Sometimes I'll write a little, not like it, and remember exactly what I need to do to fix it. This gives me the motivation to continue writing and has honestly given me some of my best work. Other times I'll listen to my writing playlist (which also happens to be my lawn mowing playlist as all of the best ideas come from when I'm mowing the lawn lol).
Did the place(s) you grew up in influence the people and/or places you write about?
I grew up in a Florida neighborhood without a lot of kids so most of the time I was inside, away from the heat, and doing something on the computer like Minecraft or writing. It probably influenced me by limiting me to those options, but now I try to experience new perspectives and write about things that I'm not completely familiar with.
Are there any reoccurring themes in your writing? If so, do they surprise you?
I wouldn't say they exactly surprise me, but they often come after I've made the story. I have the characters, their motivations, the plot, the setting, and from that the themes emerge. I often change things to fit this theme after I've come up with it but the most reoccurring theme is the one of corruption and found family or the lack there of.
Characters
Would you please tell me about your current favorite character?
I know it's a cop out but I can't choose, it's always changing and I can't remember any all of a sudden. Right now I'm thinking Stanford from gravity falls but I'm always thinking of different characters.
Which of your characters would you be friends with in real life?
I started to overthink this question and accidentally got philosophical. My first thought was Mathew, he's from the last story chronologically but was inspired by my first story "Limbo". Another that came to mind was this (currently) unnamed assassin from the story that should technically come after the one I'm currently working on and honestly I would love to get into the nitty gritty about that Idea now so maybe a post for later!
Which characters would you dislike the most of you met them?
Raymond. He's made to be disliked. Kind of a jerk and a pretty bad person. Also Greyson, he's a rich snob who thinks he can get his way just cause he has money. Ironically he was almost manipulated by one of my favorite side characters before... uh, something... happens to him.
Tell me about the process of coming up with your characters?
It starts with the plot. I have an idea and I need to fill it in with characters, their personalities come with how they should respond to these situations and everything builds off from there.
Do you notice any reoccurring themes/traits in your characters?
Yeah, they're kind of messed up. Everyone is flawed, but they grow. They all do, even if it's downward.
How do you picture your characters?
Like it's a movie. The medium changes however I mostly imagine live action, sometimes imagine anime but I feel like that would be kind of unrealistic, although an adaptation would be sick.
My writing
What’s your reason for writing?
My first inspiration was my mom, I wanted to be like her and write. Now, I still look up to her for that, but I also like the idea of creating these stories to share with others, just to have something that I can call mine and share with people.
Is there any specific comment or type of comment from readers that you find particularly motivating?
Definitely when they pick up on something. The thing that motivated me the most is when one of my friends was reading my notes and asked about Raymond, then told me that she hates him as a person and that I was doing a great job writing the characters.
How do you want to be thought about by your readers?
As someone who's work was able to reach far, make people think, and hopefully inspire them.
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?
Very obvious strength but my creativity, It helps me get over so many obstacles and come up with all of these ideas and put them together in my head.
Have you been told is your greatest strength as a writer is by others?
My characters, the plot, and being able to plan almost everything in my head on the spot.
How do you feel about your own writing?
I'm pretty proud of it. I've been improving a lot and I've been very happy about where I am now, even though there is so much work to be done!
If you were the last person on earth, would you still write?
Yes. I would still want to do this, for myself, for my characters, just because.
When you write, are you influenced by what others might enjoy reading, do you write purely for yourself, or is it a mix of both?
I like to think that I write purely for myself but it's also important to consider things that others enjoy because it gives me a point of view that I otherwise may have been unaware of.

So here's a bit about me, because why not
Hi, I'm Cam
Pronouns he/him.
I don't really have that many hobbies, but I mostly play video games such as Skyrim, Minecraft, Subnautica, and Borderlands, among many others; Conjure and write stories and skits, usually in my head; and I will very rarely draw, usually FNaF related drawings, but don't expect any posts with any of my art.
My interests include FNaF, Wings of Fire, Tamberlane (for those that know), The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Subnautica, Helluva Boss, Hazbin Hotel, Resident Evil, and probably other things that I don't really feel like racking my mind for because it's 9:20 at night.
My favorite music artist is Aviators, and I wouldn't be able to pick a favorite song.
My stories include FNaF fan stories such as Five Nights at Freddy's: Reign of Glitchtrap, a story I started back about 4 years ago. Wings of Fire fan stories such as Wings of Fire: The War of MudWing Supremacy and Wings of Fire Arc 4. And original stories such as Elements (Sex Elementis), Devilswood and an unnamed sci-fi space story.

Minecraft Live 2024
Tumblr media
When I was on Twitter, I would live-tweet my thoughts on Minecraft Live, but for today's Minecraft Live event, I slept in. The following blogpost will contain spoilers for Minecraft Live, so, if you want to avoid being spoiled for the next two minor updates coming to Minecraft—called "Drops"—now would be a good time to stop reading.
What leaked?
Sometimes, big Minecraft Live news leaks. In 2020, the name of the Caves and Cliffs update was accidentally leaked by streamer ConnorEatsPants, giving away that the upcoming update would be a cave update, something people didn't yet know.
This year was no different from then, except the leakers in question were Mojang themselves!
A few days ago, the website page for Minecraft Live had updated, revealing what the contents of the upcoming Drops would be, giving away the name of the Bundles drop, "Bundles of Bravery," and also giving away the features of the second drop, naming the Creaking and the Pale Garden.
On the Minecraft social media accounts, they were already teasing the Creaking, but I imagine they didn't intend on its name being public.
I really wanted to avoid spoilers for this update. I'd done it with Caves and Cliffs, and I intended to do it for this update.
But, uh, thanks xisumavoid.
Tumblr media
What was shown off at Minecraft Live?
The... Trailer?
Minecraft Live opened with a speech about the game's development, delivered by two people. (Not delivered at the same time, but now I wish it was.) Lydia Winters, who has hosted Minecraft Live since it was Minecon, talked about how community creativity inspires the Minecraft team to create, where the original trailer was played to exemplify how important fan-created works are to Minecraft.
Jens Bergensten (jeb_) reminisced about how he'd been working on Minecraft since Mojang was an apartment, talking about how Minecraft and its world have always been community driven.
"Every player has their own story to tell." He relates this to Minecraft Dungeons' story, Minecraft Legends' story, and the story of A Minecraft Movie, where we see footage showing that he has a shirt with a picture of the Wither on it with text that says "BOSS" in all caps.
Tumblr media
The Drops
The first drop, Bundles of Bravery, will add Bundles to Minecraft. This was something that was promised in 2020's Minecraft Live event with the Caves and Cliffs, but it was delegated to an "experimental feature" until last Wednesday's snapshot. However, they'd been working on it for a few weeks, updating its UI and functionality, so that snapshot didn't come out of nowhere. I wish they alluded to the wait for Bundles during the live event to somewhat lampshade its recently shed state of purgatory, but nonetheless, it's good to see Bundles coming to the game finally.
The "Bravery" part of the update name refers to Bedrock finally receiving Hardcore Mode, which, as a Java player, just means this is a Bundles update for me, but I'm glad my Bedrock brethren are finally getting Hardcore.
The second drop, which is currently unnamed, includes a new biome and a new mob, called the Pale Garden and the Creaking respectively. This was introduced with a Villager News segment by Element Animation where the Villager News crew gets lost in the Pale Garden, being killed off one-by-one by a hidden mob.
The Pale Garden is really cool. Walk into these desaturated woods, and the sky turns grey above you. Pale moss hangs above you and nests below your feet. The new Pale Oak trees are bunched together, similar to a Dark Forest (Rooftop Forest), but the new Hanging Pale Moss coupled with the Pale Moss Carpet's ability to creep up the sides of trees (something I'd like to see back-ported to regular Moss Carpet) makes this forest difficult to see through.
The Creaking, a mob that only spawns in the Pale Forest, is a tall, asymmetrically-shaped mob, textured like a Pale Oak log, which is great. The mob camouflages well against the trees, similar to how the Creeper once did with leaves, with the only way to see it against a pale, wooden backdrop being its three glowing, orange eyes. Turn away from it, and it runs towards you like a Weeping Angel (which, I should note, was referenced by one of the developers during the presentation with a "don't blink" comment) or just one of the SCPs that I don't know the names of. Try to strike it with your sword, and it doesn't take damage. It doesn't even flash red. Upon attacking the Creaking, particles fly off from it, leading into a nearby tree. Hacking away at the tree with your axe of choice, you'll find the Creaking Heart, a block linked to that Creaking. Break it to kill that Creaking for good, or take it with Silk Touch to hold the power to summon a Creaking any time you'd like. However, remember there's more than one Creaking per Pale Garden, so watch out. In the Developer After-Show demonstration of the Pale Garden, there were three Creakings attacking Jens.
Speaking of the Developer After-Show, they showed off several different ways to use the new Pale Oak, an almost desaturated wood type with its planks and stripped variant being white. They showed off different buildings you could make with the new wood type, one of the houses being colour-picked from the Lesbian flag, it would appear. Its Door and Trapdoor are particularly nice, offering a desaturated white door without needing to craft and power an Iron Door. On the topic of using Pale Oak in place of existent blocks, the new Stripped Pale Oak Wood looks extremely similar to Smooth Quartz Blocks, and I imagine—with trees being renewable—it will find itself being used in place of Quartz once the Drop releases in a few months.
The goal for the biome and the mob for the second drop, which they explained, is to make the experience eerie, not just scary, which reminds me of From The Fog, a Herobrine mod. If I was live-tweeting the event, I imagine you'd see a "OH MY GOD FROM THE FOG #MinecraftLive" from me. I do personally think that mod likely is the reason why Mojang added something like the Creaking to the game, which makes sense to me if the community's creativity is what inspires the development of the game. (Which, I know they didn't mean like that in the intro, but still, I think it's very likely Minecraft horror like From the Fog inspired this upcoming game drop.)
A Minecraft Movie
I will avoid diving into what I consider spoiler territory for the movie. In this section I will describe two characters briefly, and an extended preview of a scene where the characters use a Crafting Table from the teaser trailer.
If you follow me on any of my active social media platforms, you'll know I'm really not excited for this movie. When we learned the film would be live action, I knew it wasn't for me. When the teaser trailer dropped, I knew it wasn't for me even more. During Minecraft Live, they had a segment where they had the director of the film and the creative director of entertainment at Mojang talk about the movie.
Real talk: still not excited about the movie. We learned more about the story. For instance, Jason Momoa's character, Garrett, peaked in the 80s, being a former video game champion. That weird bucket thing he did in the teaser trailer was him trying to craft a sword to one-up Jack Black's Steve.
Tumblr media
I'm still not the biggest fan of the film as a Minecraft adaptation. I think there are so many aspects that feel weird. With the bucket thing being a gag—unless it comes back later—why not just craft one bucket? Or a glitched item like the CS-Source-type checkerboard? Or just nothing at all? Steve seemingly has a Quiver on his shelf. Why?
However, I will say this to the movie's credit: I really do like the title, and I have since its teaser trailer. Calling the movie "A Minecraft Movie" and not "The Minecraft Movie" was smart. Because, yeah, it is a story that they're telling using Minecraft. It doesn't place it as the definitive Minecraft movie, but instead as one of them. It's just as much of a Minecraft film as Slimecicle's feature-length YouTube upload, "We Spent 100 Days in a Hardcore Minecraft Apocalypse," Skyminer's live action short film about Minecraft, "Dawn," or that one Aspestose video with a very awesome character played by someone whose name is evading me, but she's very funny, I hear. The Warner Bros. film is one of many stories to be told using Minecraft, and it won't be the last, and I'm glad they're framing it this way. I was saying this thought out loud while I had the VOD paused in my recorded viewing, and then they explicitly referenced this same idea right after I unpaused. So, like, I guess this isn't as nuanced a take as I thought it was, but whatever.
There were more things shown off in behind-the-scenes footage for the movie (sets and props), but I feel like those are very spoiler-y for the movie itself, so I'm not gonna talk about them since I don't even think they should've been shown off.
Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue
Villager Rescue, happening in Texas, is an in-person experience that takes you through a Minecraft adventure. It opens October, but I'm not from the US, so I don't really care.
Really, I don't have any thoughts about this one, but it was shown off, so I've gotta include it.
And that was Minecraft Live!
As I usually do, even when they did the mob vote, I enjoyed Minecraft Live. After I finish writing this blogpost, I'll probably go watch Philza react to the event like I also usually do. However, there is one thing I normally do during Minecraft Live: offer my suggestions for upcoming content.
Suggestions
I love the Creaking and the Creaking Heart. It adds a challenge to killing the mob that cannot be made easier with Sharpness V or even 1.21's Mace. However, the solution, if the Creaking Heart isn't blast resistant, is just going to be TNT. (Another solution is mining through the entire biome during the day, since the Creaking only spawns at night, but that one's just a buzzkill move.) There's a danger to TNT, similar to killing Piglin Brutes with Lava Buckets, and I think while blasting through the Pale Oak wood is fine, blasting through the Creaking Heart with that same TNT? I think it makes it not as interesting of a challenge.
If Pale Oak Trees grown from saplings can't form Creaking Hearts, I think there should be a way for them to do so. Perhaps growing a tree in the Pale Garden should give it a chance to form a Creaking Heart like any tree with a Beehive.
I think the Creaking's animations need to be improved from the current development build. They're somewhat intimidating stood still, but when they're walking, something the Player could see in third person, they look goofy. All eeriness of the mob is lost in that animation.
And finally, my classic sentiment: something I would like to see as a drop is Jens' Experimental Combat Snapshot, last updated in 2020. It didn't feel like a big update to me, so I always hoped it'd be bundled in with a combat-heavy update (like Tricky Trials), but with game drops, I feel like they could release it on its own, and I would love to see it, bringing parity between Java and Bedrock's combat while reinventing it in a way that feels good against both enemies and players, something I think the proposed changes already do.
