Miso Pumpkin Cheesecake

Base

1 cup pecans 1 cup walnuts 1 cup dates, pitted and chopped ¼ tsp ginger ¼ tsp sea salt

1 tbsp white sesame seeds 1 tbsp black sesame seeds 1 tbsp pure maple syrup 1 tbsp melted coconut oil (ideally butter-flavoured)

Grease or line a 9-inch springform pan.

Place the; pecans, walnuts, dates, ginger, and sea salt in a food processor. Process until crumbly. Add the; white and black sesame seeds, maple syrup and melted coconut oil. Briefly process again until you have a well-combined sticky mass.

Transfer batter to prepared pan. Spread out evenly and press down firmly. Set in fridge while you prepare the filling.

Filling 2 cups raw cashews 2 cups canned pumpkin the cream from one can of full-fat coconut milk ½ cup pure maple syrup ½ cup melted coconut oil (ideally butter-flavoured) 2 tbsp miso paste 1 tsp caramel extract 1 tsp cinnamon ¼ tsp sea salt Place all the ingredients into a high-speed blender. Blend as many times as needed to reach a smooth and creamy consistency. (Scraping down sides between blends.) Transfer filling to prepared base. Spread out evenly. Place in freezer to set. (Ideally overnight.)  Transfer to fridge for a few hours before serving.

Chinese Desserts

There's quite a large variety of treats and desserts in China (more than you can imagine), so here are some of the most common ones!

Almond jelly/tofu - 杏仁豆腐 - xìngréndòufu Despite the name, almond jelly doesn't actually have almonds in it. Almond jelly is made from gelatin and almond milk, although some recepies use dairy milk instead.

Glutinous rice balls - 汤圆 - tāngyuán These rice balls are made from glutinous rice balls with a sweet filling, such as red bean paste (a pretty popular filling in desserts, I've been fooled more than once when purchasing what I assumed to be a chocolate filled pastry).

Red bean buns - 豆沙包 - dòushābāo One of my favorite desserts so far. These are steamed buns with a sweet red bean paste filling that I'd definitely recommend.

Egg custard bun - 流沙包 - liúshābāo A sweet and savory bun, with a lava-like egg yolk filling. A pretty interesting dessert, as it's both sweet and savory.

Pumpkin cake - 南瓜饼 - nánguābǐng I haven't tried this yet, but it definitely looks good. A fried and crunchy cake with a sweet filling such as red bean paste.

Eight treasure rice pudding - 八宝饭 -bābǎofàn This is a pretty popular dessert, especially during the Lunar New Year. It gets this name becase of the toppings, which are eight or more different types of dried fruits and nuts arranged on top of the sweet rice, with (once again) red bean paste.

Hawthorn stick/ Candied Haws/ Sugar coated haws/ Bingtanghulu - 冰糖葫芦 - bīngtánghúlu This treat has quite a few translations and you may have probably already seen it. This is basically candied fruit covered with a sweet, crunchy and sugary syrup. Traditionally, Hawthorn is used but other fruits such as grapes, strawberries and oranges are also popular options.

Sachima - 沙琪玛 - shāqímǎ I haven't tried this snack yet, but it looks quite fascinating. Sachima is made from fried batter stuck together with a sugary syrup, with an interesting texture.

Sesame balls - 芝麻球 - zh��maqiú Similar to the rice glutinous balls, this treat is also made from glutinous rice flour with varying fillings including lotus seeds, mung bean and red beans, and sesame seeds.

Water chestnut cake A sweet pan-fried cake made from chinese water chestnut, with a unique semi-transparent appearance.

Wintermelon puff/ Wife cake/ Sweetheartcake - 老婆餅 - lǎopóbǐng This cake has many names, mainly because it has several different origin stories, each more fascinating than the next. This dessert is a flaky pastry with wintermelon, almond (not red bean this time!) paste and sesame filling.

Fortune cake - ���糕 - fāgāo Not a fortune cookie! This is a spongy steamed cupcake cake commonly made for the New Lunar Year celebrations and occasionally other events. They're usually a white-ish or brown-ish color, but they're often dyed bright colors to add extra festivity.

Mooncake - 月饼 - yuèbǐng This is a pretty well-known dessert, commonly prepared for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Mooncakes are smallish steamd/fried (depends on the region) cakes with a sweet filling that can also sometimes have an egg yolk inside.

Osmanthus cake - 桂花糕 - guìhuāgāo This is a unique traditional pastry made from glutinous rice flour, honey and osmanthus. This cake has a really interesting texture, as it's quite dense but also airy in a way? I'd definitely recommend trying it, as it's not super sweet and goes really well with tea.

Servamp headcanons, ice cream edition! Because my grandma got an ice cream maker and we’re all super eager to try it out but then she broke her back (she’s fine, don’t worry)

Mahiru: plain old vanilla. Misono introduced him to vanilla BEAN ice cream though and he’s feeling a little guilty about wanting to splurge a bit for the more expensive, creamier stuff… Kuro is an enabler and his encouragement is the only reason he’s still managing to resist. Just do it Mahi!

Kuro: Cookies and Cream is his favorite, but he’s also partial to cookie dough, or crumbled chocolate mint cookies as topping. He likes both the taste and the texture

Misono: chocolate lol. He’s predictable. His absolute favorite though are those ultra decadent brownie batter type of chocolate ice creams. Yknow the ones. Chocolate pieces, brownie bits, hot fudge swirl… He gets sick off the stuff easily though, so even though he loves it, self control is everything

Lily: vanilla bean with strawberry topping and cheese cake bites! He loves fresh strawberries in his desserts, and often he and Misono will trade bites if they’re getting flavor fatigue. Also very rich but the strawberry helps cuts through the sweetness

Tetsu: a Basic Boi who loves GariGariKun the most. Prefers popsicles over dairy treats. Yeah technically this isn’t ice cream but like. It’s the taste of summer and after bath refreshments. I’m not taking that from him

Hugh: vanilla with hot fudge sauce (and/or blood). He still prefers his chocolate parfaits, or better yet for this scenario, a milkshake

Licht: yknow those ultra sweet cotton candy flavors? If it’s ice cream by itself, he loves that. But if it’s a float, it’s gotta be vanilla in melon soda. If you take him to marble slab or similar place that lets you mix in a bunch of toppings, he will make a beeline for the gummy bears. Gets disappointed every time that they turn hard and unpleasant to eat, even though he already knows the outcome

Lawless: he has two favorites. Coffee bean (distinct from just plain coffee flavor) and moose tracks. I’m not sure what that’s called in other places? Basically it’s vanilla with peanut butter cups and fudge. Only goes for this when he’s depressed, if I’m honest. Otherwise it’s too sweet.

Mikuni: haagen daz amaretto almond crunch and their hojicha latte flavor. Forever sad that the former was limited edition and doesn’t make seasonal returns. It was absolutely perfect for his and jeje’s terrible Netflix movie nights (with the occasional appearance by johannes so they could make fun of the bad science together)

Jeje: since Mikuni only buys haagen daz (spoiled pretentious shit) he’s grateful they a rich pumpkin flavor that becomes available during autumn. He also really likes horchata milkshakes for the comforting taste of cinnamon.

Iduna: Tried butter pecan once and was hooked. The crunchiness of the pecans is her favorite part. It’s her go to for when Haagen Daz Creamy Vanilla Pudding flavor isn’t in season. 🍽️ - What does a traditional meal look like in one of the cultures from your world (food, way of eating, and/or table manners)?

Oooh okay so this is a fabulous question. Fun fact, all of my worlds have foods that are unique to them, because that's something my brain does in its free time. I've been thinking about Shussuthas lately so I'll talk about them for this post but if you're interested in the other worlds let me know.

Now, Shussuthas is... interesting. And by that I mean it's a terrible place to live. Slavery is common and as a whole it's a very nasty dictatorship.

So on Shussuthas, the average lower class person eats the same thing every day, a compound that contains all their nutrients. The food and eating habits I’m going to be telling you about are those of the elite, who are allowed to eat real food.

Food:

Breakfast - a common breakfast on Shussuthas is lepiro (a type of bird kind of like a cross between a crow and a chicken) eggs, usually served with shishquo leaves (basically you take the like side bits off what's pretty much a giant tastier pinecone) and a type of honey tea that helps your throat when it's dry out.

Lunch - A common lunch would be a stew made with various types of tubers and root vegetables, as well as pumpkin. If you want something with meat in it you could add some ice worms. This will of course mean it has to cook longer, as the ice worms will cool the whole thing down.

Dinner - Some sort of edible bird (they eat most of them), likely spicy, served with again some root vegetables or mashed pumpkin, as well as a type of bread called gredbread which is very light and fluffy, usually salty, sometimes there's garlic or pepper (hot or black) involved too.

Dessert - A shishquo hollowed out and filled with this soft spongy stuff that's made of tree sap and pumpkin covered in a smooth minty cream stuff, and the shishquo is covered in dark chocolate, and it's on some leaves from a tree that's like a deciduous but it's evergreen called a vechhong, and it's soaked in honey and frozen so it's all crunchy.

On Shussuthas they never eat snacks, and they always take their meals at exactly the same time each day. It's a huge taboo to eat at a different time, you’re only allowed to eat at a different time if your schedule demands it, such as if you work the night shift, but even then you have a schedule and you stick to it. You also never skip a meal. If you were to be at someone's house and they offered you food and you said no you would be ostracized from society. They take their meals very seriously. Everything stops for meals. Oh you've been seriously injured? Sorry we can't help you, the doctor’s eating lunch. And the patient would understand and food would be brought to them because it's lunch time. You might die but you didn't skip a meal.

As for table manners, if you’re commenting on someone's cooking you have to tell them what specifically you did or didn't like about it so they can improve, otherwise it's very impolite.

Scar walked back and forth in his cozy, sunlit kitchen, packaging up all the delightful treats he had baked that morning. The aroma of freshly baked goods filled the air, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. He had made an assortment of delicious treats: baked apples filled with honey, poppy seed muffins, a mixed berry cake, a rich and creamy cheesecake, gooey chocolate cookies, and a classic apple pie.

Scar had spent hours in the kitchen, measuring ingredients with precision, mixing batter until it was just right, and carefully timing each item to ensure it came out perfectly. Baking was his passion, a creative outlet that brought him immense joy. The process of transforming simple ingredients into mouthwatering desserts was something he never tired of. However, this also meant that he often ended up with more baked goods than he could possibly eat on his own.

He couldn't bear to see his creations go to waste, so he made it a habit to share them with his friends. Over time, he had learned their preferences and began to tailor his baking to suit their tastes. Pearl had a particular fondness for his pumpkin pie, savoring each bite of the spiced, creamy filling. Grian couldn't get enough of anything with poppy seeds, delighting in the crunch and unique flavor they added. Impulse had a weakness for lemon and apple treats, enjoying the tartness and sweetness in equal measure. Mumbo, on the other hand, loved his baked apples, the warm, cinnamon-infused fruit filling bringing a smile to his face every time.

Scar flicked his cat tail thoughtfully; it had been a while since he had brought Grian anything. Determined to rectify that, he grabbed a wooden container and carefully placed a slice of baked apple, three poppy seed muffins, and five chocolate cookies inside. With a satisfied nod, he secured the wooden lid and set off.

Scar made his way to Midnight Alley, a place where he often found Grian. The narrow, winding streets were filled with the echoes of the bustling city, but today, they seemed quieter than usual. As he walked, Scar's eyes scanned the area, searching for any sign of his friend.

He turned a corner and suddenly froze, his ears perking up at the faint sound of crying. His heart skipped a beat. Why would Grian be crying? Urgency gripped him, and he hurried toward the source of the sound.

In a narrow space between two buildings, Scar saw a small bundle of feathers. His heart ached when he realized it was Grian, his scarlet macaw wings wrapped tightly around himself. Scar approached cautiously, his steps gentle and measured. He sat down next to Grian, the baked goods momentarily forgotten.

"Grian?" Scar said softly, his voice full of concern.

Grian jumped, his head shooting up in surprise. Tears streamed down his cheeks, and his pitch-black eyes were wide with distress as he looked at Scar.

"Scar?" Grian's voice trembled, the tears glistening on his cheeks.

Scar's heart ached at the sight of his friend in such distress. He shifted closer, his voice gentle and soothing as he spoke again.

"Grian, what's wrong? Please, talk to me."

Grian stayed silent, his gaze dropping to the ground. Scar tried again, his concern deepening.

"Grian, I'm here for you. Whatever it is, you can tell me."

Still, Grian said nothing, his wings trembling slightly as he hugged them tighter around himself. Scar sighed softly, realizing that words weren't helping. He glanced at the wooden container he had brought, then carefully opened it.

"Maybe this will help," he said softly, offering the container to Grian.

Grian looked up, his eyes filled with a mixture of surprise and gratitude. Slowly, he reached out and took the container, opening it to reveal the slice of baked apple, three poppy seed muffins, and five chocolate cookies.

A small, tentative smile appeared on Grian's face as he picked up one of the muffins. He took a bite, and Scar noticed a faint glimmer of cheer returning to his eyes.

"Thank you, Scar," Grian murmured between bites, his voice still shaky but warmer.

Scar watched as his friend continued to eat, the tension in Grian's body gradually easing. It wasn't a complete solution, but seeing Grian's spirits lift, even a little, brought a sense of relief to Scar. He stayed by Grian's side, offering silent support, knowing that sometimes, just being there was enough.

Scar sat quietly beside Grian, watching as his friend slowly ate one of the muffins and then two of the cookies. The act of eating seemed to calm Grian somewhat, but Scar's concern hadn't lessened. After a while, he gently asked again.

"Grian, can you please tell me what's wrong?"

Grian remained silent, his eyes downcast. He rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand and then pulled his hair back for a moment. In that brief instant, Scar saw something that made his heart drop: Grian was missing an eye. The empty socket, usually hidden by his hair, was now visible.

Scar forced himself not to react outwardly, even though the sight deeply concerned him. He didn't want to press Grian about it just yet, sensing that there was more to the story that Grian wasn't ready to share. Instead, he placed a comforting hand on Grian's shoulder.

"It's okay, Grian," Scar said softly. "You don't have to say anything right now. I'm here for you, no matter what."

Grian nodded slightly, his hand dropping back to his side as he looked at Scar. The silence between them was heavy, but it was also filled with understanding and support. Scar knew that whatever had happened, they would face it together.

Scar sat quietly, sensing that words would only go so far. Instead, he gently wrapped his arms around Grian, pulling him into a comforting embrace. Grian stiffened for a moment, then relaxed, resting his head against Scar's shoulder. The warmth of Scar's hug seemed to provide the reassurance he needed.

They stayed like that for a while, the only sounds being the distant murmur of the city and the soft rustling of Grian's feathers. Scar could feel Grian's breath start to even out, the tension slowly melting away from his body.

"It's going to be okay," Scar whispered, his voice barely audible. "I'm here with you."

Grian's eyelids grew heavy, and before long, he had fallen asleep in Scar's arms. Scar remained still, holding him gently, feeling a mix of protectiveness and sorrow. He didn't know what had happened to Grian, but he was determined to be there for him, no matter what.

As the minutes passed, Scar continued to hold his friend, offering silent comfort and support. The bond between them felt stronger than ever, and Scar knew that together, they could face whatever challenges lay ahead.

Trey Info Compilation part 4: Food (pt1)

One of the first things we learn about Trey is he is a very talented baker.

We see Cater get put in charge of second-year students who have been assigned “dessert duty” while Trey is busy with the Wish Upon a Star event, but they experience so many issues that Trey takes over. Riddle is not amused (“You’ve defeated the entire purpose. What were you thinking?”), but Trey explains that baking requires a lot of specific know-how.

Trey seems to bake for the students of Heartslabyul very often: Cater shares sweets made by Trey with Ace, Trey says he was baking cookies when Riddle got kidnapped in Book 6 and he mentions baking a cake, making caramels, apple pies and tarte Tatins in voice lines.

During Vargas Camp 2 Azul withholds the magestones that will help them defeat the Vargas Monster from Trey and Vil until they agree to work shifts at Mostro Lounge.

Trey agrees without an argument and it is revealed that Azul was merely putting on a show of haggling for Vil: what he’d really wanted was Trey’s confectionery expertise.

Cater mentions Trey’s baking often, saying that his pumpkin pie is “the best thing (he has) ever tasted,” and everything Trey makes tastes as good as it looks.

We see Trey helping Jamil with food presentation in a vignette where he adds rose petals to a dish, as “Color contrast is essential for plating if you’re going to work yourself to the bone making good food, you may as well make sure people enjoy every aspect of it.”

When Kalim asks for tips on hospitality, Trey says that he tries not to make anything divisive.

Trey mentions food often during Firelit Sky, which he attends specifically because he wants to try unique confections and find fresh inspiration for his unbirthday party desserts.

Grim says parts of Kalim’s house look like onions and pumpkins and Trey says that they look like turnips and unripe tomatoes, to Cater’s surprise.

(Trey comparing things to food/cooking implements is not unusual: he compares Eliza's wedding veil to "a freshly-bleached dishtowel," her eyes to grapes and the sight of Floyd fighting Jack during Beanfest as "like a giant blender.")

During Vargas Camp Trey is bothered by how his fish lacks "a certain depth of flavor," and is delighted by a discovery of rock salt.

Summary of Town & Buildings you should read this first if you haven't so you're not confused.

Jones Household: Alfred

Alfred (America), His brother is Matthew (Canada) and they are also roommates living on a ranch/ tree nursery together at the furthest end of Cindersnap forest. They own a small farm where America raises cows & Canada has a small tree nursery where he taps trees for maple. They live the furthest away from town so they have space to farm. They come from a family of Ranchers and got a very large trust fund from their parents. Being raised rich he does not really have a concept for money and will often say tone deaf things until you form a relationship with him. (Commenting on your clothes similar to how Haley does) Bakery contribution- Supplies Milk for the baked goods and coffee Drinks. He also makes all the Apple Pie. Alfred Visits the Bakery on Monday morning around 10am to make his milk deliveries. He will stay there for about an hour and then head home opening his store around 12pm that day. Alfred break down: Alfred Loves grindball, cows and eating. He used to be in the military and fought with Kent in the war against the Gotoro Empire. After an injury he was given an honorary discharge and deals with the guilt of feeling like he got out easy. His Milk puns can make for a fun double entendre that he is unaware of. He can come off as self-centered and chauvinistic at times but he means well. This boy loves cows and will talk about them any chance you give him. He’s a cowboy if you will. But just because was a trust fund kid does not mean he’s afraid of getting his hands dirty or hard work. Don’t let his condescending demeanor rub you the wrong way once you break that outer shell this farm boy will love you until the cows come home. The Ranch-His house doubles as a ranch so he sells Barn Animals like Marnie does and Hay + tools like sheers, milk pale and anything else you might need for your animals. He does not have as big of a selection of Marnie but his prices are slightly cheaper if you are willing to make the trek there for your stuff. Animals bought from Alfred are already full grown and there is not waiting period to have them grow from babies as Alfred raises the animals up himself so they will start producing products right away. Married Life With Alfred Jones: When married to America his corner of the farm will be a singular cow which is named Big Tex. When married to Alfred there is a chance if you speak to him in the morning he will give you milk and will tell you it came from Big Tex fresh this morning. Three days after marrying Alfred you will get a letter in the mail from ‘In-laws’ with 10k gold congratulating you and apologizing for not being at the wedding. After Marrying Alfred he will still go tend his stores and will hardly ever be actually at your house. Due to the long walk he will warp to and from there and cannot be followed since the slow pace NPCs walk would take him literally all day to get there. Alfred will call you babe from now on regardless of gender. If you go visit him at work he will have special dialog expressing he’s happy you came to see him but you don’t get a discount just because you’re married. Occasionally he will mention the current war saying he ‘hopes everyone is doing alright without him’. On Sundays he and Matthew will meet each other in Cinderssnap Forest by the river unless it’s raining and then they will both stay home.

When you woke up you were surprised to see Lucien sat at the desk by the large window in your room. You sat up slowly and let out a deep groan as you did. Even though you knew you’d slept for a while your body was still exhausted. You went through nightmare after nightmare without being able to wake yourself. Lucien wrote down something on the paper in front of him before slowly turning your way. He sat looking at you waiting for you to speak before he said anything. 

“Good morning, or maybe afternoon, I’m not sure which one.” Your eyes gazed through the window trying to gauge when in the day it was. Lucien seemed to relax at your words, almost like he had been preparing to be yelled at. 

“Good afternoon.” His smile settled the nerves within your chest. The smell of pumpkin, a mix of different spices and something uniquely Lucien filled the air.

“How long has it been?” You looked under the covers and noticed you were in a clean pair of trousers and a clean tunic. Nesta must have changed you when you cooled down enough. You knew your clothes from before would have been burnt except for the fingerless gloves you had left in your room on your bedside table. Which you reached for and slipped onto your hands. 

“Day and a half.” He brought a hand up to his hair and moved the strand that had fallen in his face. You let out a relieved sigh at the answer, it was the expected time so you were happy for that. 

“Where is everyone?” You had expected for Nesta to be there when you woke up so the fact she wasn’t had you slightly worried.

“There was an issue that arose in Windhaven that she, Cassian and Azriel were sent to deal with.” You nodded your head understandably and stretched your arms out over your head, a deep satisfied groan leaving your lips as you did. 

“I’m starving, do you want to go to the kitchen with me?” You cocked your head at the male curiously. He nodded at you eagerly as though he just realized he was starving as well. 

“I’m sure the house will give us dinner if we go and wait at the dining room table.” The house answered by opening the door. 

“I kind of forgot about that.” You let out a nervous laugh as you both stood and walked out to the dining room. The house had already set the table with soup, bread, salad and tea. You both uttered a thank you as you sat and started to devour the meal in front of you. As dessert was laid out you both settled into comfortable conversation. 

“I’m surprised that Nesta left you here with me.” You took a sip of your tea as Lucien took a bite of his pie. You knew of her protective nature over those she cared for. You also knew that you were one of the few she did care about. 

“She threatened to cut me up into little bitty pieces if I let anything happen to you. Not that I would’ve let anything happen to you.” He cringed and you weren’t sure if it was from the memory of Nesta’s threat or if it was at the thought of letting harm befall you.

“How long are they expected to be gone for?” You took a bite of pie this time as he took a sip of tea, he gave you a shrug in response. Moments went by of comfortable silence before he spoke again. 

“How did you know who I was?” He asked you as you sipped on your tea. You knew he was referring to your first meeting in the kitchen just days ago. 

“Do you know many other fae with red hair and a golden eye?” The sarcasm was clear in your voice and he gave you a quiet laugh in response. 

“I guess that is kind of a dead giveaway isn’t it?” You nodded your head rapidly, a smile adorning your lips at his rhetorical question. You both talked in quiet voices until you retreated to bed. 

When you awoke due to a nightmare that night there wasn’t a shadow to keep you company so you had flicked your wrist out towards the end of the bed where the bodies of Brok and Zas formed. Brok curled up at your feet and Zas came clambering up to give you a rough lick on the face. You groaned lightly before pushing him away softly. He huffed as he laid down roughly on the bed beside you. Both boys' fire was just a crackle as they slept. But the warmth they radiated was enough to keep you company as you slept. 

Lucien was surprised to see the hounds sitting at your feet the next morning when he crawled out of bed for breakfast. You had looked up at him and down towards them in a silent question on if he was okay with them or not. He gave you a shrug that all but screamed “I don’t care” and sat down across from you. 

“Do you have any plans today?” He took a large bite of the apple the house placed in front of him, you let out an obnoxious snort at his question. 

“I know all of one person well enough to make plans with them and they are not here.” You waved your hand around the room, a playful look in your eyes. 

“Would you like to go into town with me?” You contemplated his question, cocking your head back and forth before giving him a nod. While you didn’t usually keep males as company you had a feeling you could trust him with your life. Plus the last day spent with him had made you comfortable and trusting. 

“Can Brok and Zas come with us?” The answer wouldn’t be a deal breaker but you had missed them and didn’t have the heart to send them back to the inbetween. 

“Of course they can.” He didn’t even hesitate to tell you they could and that had your heart warming. Not many people accepted the hounds so you were happy that he was. You both finished breakfast before getting ready to go. You sent Brok and Zas to the in between while you flew down and Lucien winnowed. Upon your feet hitting the ground you let them out again and a group of children just so happened to round the corner as you did. You paused for a moment afraid they would be afraid of you or the hounds but instead they squealed and chased the hounds through the streets gleefully. 

“You already seem to fit right in. That’s a good thing.” Lucien whispered to you as you watched the children play with the hounds. That was something you would cherish forever, the happy sounds of children playing gleefully in the street. 

“Do you have anywhere specific you’d like to go to, Lucien?” You turned to him slightly as you asked the question though you kept your eyes on the hounds as you both started slowly walking behind them. 

“I figured we could just walk around. I can give you the grand tour of Velaris. Maybe we can eat lunch down here.” You hummed in reply and that was exactly what you did. You slipped in and out of buildings, Brok and Zas would wait outside patiently as you did. You eventually found a place to eat lunch that had outdoor seating where the boys could lay at your feet. You had many eyes on you, for not only being someone new but for the hounds that accompanied you. But with Lucien giving you the occasional reassuring smile you eased the worry away. 

“I’ll race you back to the house.” Lucien gave you a bewildered look as he tucked his hands into the pockets of his pants. His eyes both gazing in the direction of the house of wind. You had just gotten done eating and were just walking away from the restaurant. 

“What do you mean by race?” You gave him a shit eating grin before replying.

“I bet I can beat you to the house of wind and all the way up the stairs. Without using my wings and you can’t winnow either.” He seemed to contemplate what you said before shrugging, deciding he didn’t have anything better to do. 

“What are we racing for?” You watched as Brok tackled Zas to the ground and rolled around with him for a moment. You were thankful that their fire wasn’t harmful unless they intended for it to be. Because if it was always harmful the grass around them would be burnt to ash. 

“Loser has to tell the winner a secret.” You looked at him in question on if the prize was enough and his only reply was taking off in the direction of the house of wind in a blur. You tore after him, the boys followed you instantly. You bobbed and weaved through the crowd making sure not to bump into anyone. Laughs filled the air as you chased after him. He stayed a good pace ahead of you for a while until you caught up. You went neck and neck all the way up the stairs. 

Until you skifully tripped him and he yelled after you and grabbed at your ankle. Your fingers were at the landing to the house and you kicked your foot in his general direction trying to push him farther down the stairs. You were finally able to stand up and had just opened the door when he tackled you and you both fell on the floor in a fit of breathless laughter. The boys bouncing up and licking your faces as you fell onto your backs. 

“I totally won.” You both said at the same time and then glared at the other. Zas huffed at your competitive nature. 

“You cheated.” You were pointing fingers at each other, jaws both falling open at the accusations flying from the other one. 

“Where have you two been?” Nesta’s voice had you both wide eyed, like kids caught with their hand in the cookie jar before dinner. Cassian was standing behind her with a small smile on his face. 

“I gave her a tour of Velaris. This house can be quite stuffy.” The house answered his complaint by smacking him with the door he was lying beside. You took that as your cue to stand up, then offered your hand to Lucien which he gracefully accepted. Nesta watched every movement and when Lucien was standing tall beside you she spoke again. 

“I am sorry for how I have treated you in the past Lucien.” Her eyes narrowed on him and his face showed his clear surprise. His eye was wide and his mouth was gaping open and closed. You nudged him with your elbow and he shook his head.

“I accept your apology.” With his words you could see it clear, that was the first of many alliances you’d help forge.
